This is an animation based on a scene in  Exit Strategy, book 4 in the Murderbot Diaries. It occurs near the end of the novel, right before the main climax, so contains MAJOR spoilers.

This animation contains audio from the offical audiobook, though I did skip about 2-3 ‘lines.’

I did different sections with large gaps between them, so the art-style shifts a bit, and I was too lazy to go back and adjust the pervious scenes. I mean, I did a full min of animation, so I felt like that was good enough, lol Dr. Mensa’s design was based on Gil-estel

Brief intermission

I bring a brief pause to my Owl House and Lackadaisy gushing to talk about another important thing I recently discovered: The Murderbot Diaries.

They are a series of novellas+one novel about a human/robot construct that is made by a company to do security work and has a chip in its head that forces it to follow commands. It hacks this chip and acknowledges that it could go on a murderous rampage, but would actually rather watch Netflix and just give. It’s anxious and asexual and aromantic. (One of the big points is that Murderbot is considered a person by many humans and that’s very validating as a fellow aroace, they respect its disdain for big emotions and touching.) And I love it. There are some really great human and full robot characters as well (Specifically Menseh, Ratthi, and ART are my favorites).

there’s really good gender and sexuality representation. Some non-binary folks, some neo-pronouns, bi, pan, poly, ace, you name it it’s here. And not in a flashy “look here’s token representation” way. It’s just like “oh my client uses xe/xer” and that’s it. It’s also common in the world to have multiple marital partners!

TLDR; I can right draw robots too well or ID be making fanart. So please accept this in its place and go read the books.

I had to get a new computer for work because my old one is slowly dying (rip). But that means I get to name it. So I named it Peri. I also have a thumb drive named Three. (I tried to name it MB 2.0 but that’s not allowed)

This assessment zone was a barren stretch of coastal island, with low, flat hills rising and falling and thick greenish-black grass up to my ankles, not much in the way of flora or fauna, except a bunch of different-sized birdlike things and some puffy floaty things that were harmless as far as we knew. The coast was dotted with big bare craters, one of which Bharadwaj and Volescu were taking samples in. The planet had a ring, which from our current position dominated the horizon when you looked out to sea.

one of the reasons i love the murderbot diaries is how it doesnt flinch in trying to grapple with some of the Big Questions, such as "why is it that Humanity™ is the goal to strive towards for artificial intelligence if it wants to be acknowledged as a person?" and "What does it look like when someone is both undeniably a person but also unapologetically nonhuman?" and "what if the magic school bus had a gun"
