I just realised that Star Trek TOS predicted the experience of any healer in any type of cooperative game. Like from DND to MMOs to team games like those multiplayer team FPS type games
Because I haven't played a lot of those but anyone I have met or seen talk about playing a healer character has had Bones energy
Of the "Yes I'm healing you but I also want to strangle you because you WON'T STOP RUSHING AT DEATH!" variety
The "If you LISTENED TO ME I wouldn't need to heal you and we could have finished this by now!" energy.
The "you are all ungrateful little shits and next time...I'll still heal you but I while fantasising about knocking you unconscious so i don't have to deal with your bullshit" vibes

I understand it's a video game I understand I shouldn't take it seriously I understand that I just need to have a non-materialist look at it but I'm allowed to be frustrated that so many multi-player experiences are curated to be anger inducing time wasters, especially for those of us who don't have the time to sit down 12 hours a day 7 days a week to get fucking good.
Maybe i don't wanna be good at the game, maybe I just want to laugh and make friends and not get my shit stolen over and over again by groups of people who are not only much better than me, but mock me for it to.
It's hard to have a relaxed non-materialist viewpoint when time is involved. Time exists in our society, and when I spend HOURS working towards something only for it to get smacked away and then I get to hear some 20 something year old basement dweller call me slurs for it, it's hard not to get fucking upset.

tough love arena: a super fun beta fighter! you can play rolling 1v1 matches in lobbies of up to 8 people
gartic phone: kinda like the game telephone, but for drawings instead!
skribbl.io / sketchful.io: pictionary! you can add your own prompts.
draw battle: kinda skribbl/sketchful but team versus team!
frantic fanfic: put in your own characters and work together to make fanfics! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
giddio: buncha board and table games!
tagpro: topdown tag game!
codenames: use teamwork and hints to guess your team’s code names!
town of salem: mafia type game-- might be difficult to play nowadays
mafia.gg: ever played TOS or any mafia game? this is a simple text-based form of it! really fun for roleplaying within the game.
one night ultimate werewolf: another social deduction game!
spyfall: game works better in call- figure out who the spy among you is by asking questions about your special location!
pokemon showdown: make a poketeam and play matches!
tetr.io: online tetris! kinda functions like tetris99.
there are a LOT of cards against humanity clones, like pretend you’re xyzzy or picturecards... i haven’t tried a lot of them, so proceed with caution!
geoguessr / virtualvacation: guess locations of places- virtualvacation is like geoguessr, but with videos instead

Real talk.
I played through the entirety of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet with my friends, DLCs and all. In the same world, running at the same pace. And it was a magical experience.
The amount of times we glitched into eachother’s cutscenes with side-splitting results. Hunting and catching shinies together. Posing outside of the cutscenes while we waited for the others to come through. Filling out the Pokedex in sync and cheering at every new encounter someone found. Picking seperate starters and raising them side by side, then throwing them out of their Pokeballs to show off our newly evolved friends to the group. Making goofy commentary on the story as we waded through it in real time. Waiting eagerly for the DLC updates to drop so we could do it all again and again. Not to mention! Getting to run around as our favorite Pokemon together!
This game was made for enjoying together. I can’t think of another game we, as a solid trio of gamers, in the greater part of a decade, have had more of a blast in.
Seriously! If you found yourself thinking these games were just okay…replay it with a buddy! Two buddies! Your significant other! Your sibling or your cousin! You just need Nintendo online, hop in a Union Circle and you’re good to go! I promise it’s worth it.
So yeah, Scarlet and Violet is a silly glitchy mess. But man, when you’re with your best friends, it only adds to the charm. I’m insanely greatful to Gamefreak for making this journey possible for us, and pray this continues to be an option in the future.
