And they’re... the Mouri? I think everyone thought they would be the Tokugawa, with Ieyasu and the shitennou. But the Mouri, huh...
From left to right: Kobayakawa Takakage, Mouri Takamoto, Mouri Motonari, Kikkawa Motoharu, Mouri Terumoto.
With the exception of Motonari and Terumoto they’re not exactly Sengoku A-listers, but from what I remember they all had their fun episodes and anecdotes, and hey, they look very pretty.

I looked up Motonari’s kids, and so many them were adopted into different houses like wow. Of 10 listed sons, only 3 had remained surnamed Mouri. The eldest son and heir Takamoto, fifth son Motoaki, and youngest son Hidekane.
Hidekane is so young that his older brother is old enough to be his father, and later on indeed adopted him as a son (Motonari, seriously, you’re 70 and you’re not well anymore, why the hell are you still producing babies)

Samurai Warriors 5 unique NPCs full set
Koei revealed that there are 10 unique NPCs in total in Samurai Warriors 5
Left to right: Saitou Dousan, Asakura Yoshikage, Oda Nobuyuki, Ashikaga Yoshiaki, Saitou Yoshitatsu
Some of these we’ve already seen in previous teasers.
Left to right: Mitsubuchi Fujihide, Kikkawa Motoharu, Mouri Terumoto, Okabe Motonobu, Takeda Katsuyori.
The Katsuyori render is imported from his Sanadamaru/Soul of Sanada design. Okabe Motonobu is an Imagawa vassal who later moved on to serve the Takeda.
Mitsubuchi Fujihide is the older brother of Hosokawa Fujitaka/Yuusai (father of Hosokawa Tadaoki). Curious that it isn’t Fujitaka who has a unique render, but maybe he’d be there as the shogun’s associate as the Oda side already has Mitsuhide. Historically, when the Oda clashed with shogun Yoshiaki, Fujitaka turned coat to the Oda side while Fujihide remained loyal to the shogun.
How nice to see the Two Rivers together, hah, since Kobayakawa Takakage was one of the player characters. Takamoto is not around, so I would assume he’s meant to have already perished. The timeline is skewed after all, as with many other fiction adaptation, so it’s rather hard to gauge what the setting is until we actually see it in action.

Hello! Thanks for translating SNB! Also, WTF THE MOURI CLAN IS SO STRONG! NO WONDER THE OTHER ARMIES ARE ALLIYING! We've only seen 2 Mouri generals and the other armies have lost 3. And we haven't seen Takakage yet which is the coldest and most ruthless in Mouri. I'm scared...

And RIGHT?? Throughout the game they were like “yeah, oni are like 5x as strong as vampires and werewolves” and I was kinda nodding my head like “okay… but what about people like Nobunaga who are probably 5x stronger than ordinary vampires?”. WELP, ANSWER WAS GIVEN LOL. Motonari was fighting two of the strongest and sneakiest people (heck, 4 of them if you count Ranmaru and Toshiie) and they couldn’t even touch him… Didn’t even make him sweat even though Motonari did casually be like “Oh no, that was close” LOL.
It’s surprising that Motoharu only handled Uesugi because I thought it’d be one Mouri commander for multiple people. But yeah, hm… my guess is now Takakage against Sanada/Takeda/Date? From the hints we’ve seen in the other army routes, it looks like Shingen is still on the official battlefield. Sanada was getting beat back and Nobuyuki has run back to them, but Date isn’t going to let that opportunity go IMO.
Or it’s just going to be Takakage against Takeda. Then Terumoto + Takamoto against Sanada and Date (since these two armies are small).

Well, excuse me, Motoharu and Takakage are Two Rivers of west. Takamoto is indeed practically non-existant though
… Er, yes, and…? Do you mean that there’s a lot of famous, well-known works featuring Kikkawa and Kobayakawa out there?
It’s just that I often see a lot of stories and games having Nobunaga fight against Motonari instead of the proper Terumoto-Motoharu-Takakage combo. I don't think many people are as familiar with who Takakage or Motoharu are unless 1) they already know a lot about the Sengoku, or 2) They live in former Mouri clan territories in Japan. Kobayakawa Takakage joining Sengoku Musou/Samurai Warriors main playable roster is a considerably recent development, and I don’t think Sengoku Basara has added either one of the Rivers.
If that was a bad example, then okay. I did say I don’t really have access to much stuff unless they’re particularly famous. I can always replace it with another example. Say, maybe Nobunaga’s father, Oda Nobuhide the Tiger of Owari. He’s clearly an important figure in his time, well-respected and feared, but he’s not really prominent in media. Even in Nobunaga-related stories he’s often just a background character.

Deciding a colour palette is so hard :/
Still stuck on actual plotting so I go and colour the character design sketch I did for the Mouri squad. I’m really bad with colour palettes, bleh, but at least with this bunch I have the excuse of “Family genes” and allow the hues to be somewhat similarish.
Terumoto’s reason for having a somewhat different palette is because mum genes I guess IDK. I don’t wanna draw Takamoto aaaaaaaaa I hope I will never need to use him in the plot.
If this was a real otome game, Motonari would just be an NPC and then I would cry. Takamoto is resident uwu of the bunch but he’s dead. I’m spewing nonsense. So tempted to make otome sprites of them all for no reason.

Other than their sons, who's the other famous samurai under Mori clan during the time of Motonari?
Well, there was Ankokuji Ekei, who apparently went with Motonari everywhere, obviously he's famous for getting his head lopped off along side Mitsunari and Yukinaga. In terms of English sources (I can't speak for Japanese) the people outside of the big guys, hotshots, whatever you want to call the don't really get a mention. However, there are the 18 Generals of Mouri While I don't really have the ability to go over all of them some are worthy of a mention. There's Shishido Takaie (1518-1595) who was married to Motonari's second(?) daughter, Goryu no Tsubone, he submitted to Motonari in 1540 Watanabe Hajime who supposedly saved Motonari's life Kumagai Nobunao (1507-1593) who fought in the majority of Motonari's battles
Additionally, there's the Murakami family (I don't think they're related to the writer mind aha) who will be getting their own post at some point because they're an interesting bunch who clashed with Konishi a lot. Pirates ya see.
There's also Wachi Masaharu, who was the man who fell under suspicion when Mori Takamoto (Motonari's son, father of Terumoto) died. Akagawa Motoyasu also fell under suspicion for this and was imprisoned and eventually forced to commit suicide, along with his adopted son. I can't tell you Masaharu's fate right now.
I can't attest to the complete historicity of this, I'll do some more delving in due time
