It honestly has no backstory but i always thought that Donnie (in a few of his iterations) had the full potential to be a Mad Scientist! TBH I’m quite sure Rise Don is practically on the threshold, he just needs a slight nudge!

2012 Donnie though has this REAL dark side and I think it was damn shame they didn’t explore that avenue any further in the series….
