does little shenanigans to take his mind off it

drinks a lot more to cope when shenanigans aren’t available

joins in with Medic during Oktoberfest

goes all out with decorations

but he hand-makes it so it looks authentic

bro is really good at carving pumpkins for no reason at all

once made replicas of each of the mercs using pumpkin skin

took him several days

he had way too many pumpkin guts to spare

RED OKTOBERFEST: sweet little birds (part one)

Although the red Heavy weapons specialist had just woken up and showered,he now stood over the sink, eyeing himself in the mirror as he shaved his slightly stubbly face. He continued happily for a while until he was happy with his perfectly shaven jowls. He looked at himself again in satisfaction before hearing the Engineer politely knock on the bathroom door.

"Hey Partner! Just wanted to let you know that breakfast is ready!" He paused lightly before remembering and excitedly blurted " Oh yes! How could I forget already? Apparently, the administrator wants see us all...somethin' bout' some announcement." The Engineer mentioned before awaiting the fellow mercenary's response.

"Da...will be there in minute." The Heavy continued getting ready. He shifted himself into a pair of grey sweatpants and his signature shirt with fist symbols before exiting his room.

As Misha arrived to their kitchen area,he smelt bacon and pancakes. He sighed as he realized that Jane was doing the cooking today, as Jane had always said they needed an "True American Breakfast.". The heavy looked at everybody who was sitting at the table, who seemed to be in very good moods today.

At the table, Scout and Pyro were sitting next to each other and discussing some comic book they had bonded over. Aside from them, The Sniper, Soldier, Engineer, and Demoman were laughing over some joke as they ate their first meal of the day. Which was rare, considering the Sniper barely left his small van for the mornings as he tended to grab his breakfast and eat in his van. Spy was sitting at the end of the table, smoking a cigar as he read his newspaper. And now, Misha sat at his chair, eating his meal happily as he watched the other mercenaries. Misha thought for a moment, realizing something was off.

"ATTENTION!! The blu team has announced a surrender and cease fire! Enjoy your breaks!" The Administrators voice had boomed throughout the building. Everyone looked at eachother quietly for a moment before Scout had jumped from his seat. "Well! I'm headed out! I got a hot date tonight anyways!" The Scout chuckled before walking away the room.

The Spy and Sniper had also now begin to leave toward their areas, and Soldier, Demoman, and Engineer had went for their morning workouts.

Heavy sat by himself, thinking deeply. Why did he feel so off today? "Oh.." he thought for a moment. He moved from his seat and grabbed a plate of food for the Medic. He then began to walk towards the Infirmary where the Medic must have been working. He looked around worried for a moment before seeing the Medic asleep on his desk. Misha had lightly tapped the Medics shoulder and the man sprung to life.

The doctor awakened slowly before he screamed and looked at the other with his blue, frightened eyes.

"Hoho Heavy! Don't scare me like zhat! You know I'm a light sleeper!" The medic barked loudly. Misha looked at him guiltily before the Medic had responded with a slight pout. "Oh...I'm sorry Heavy, is there somezing you need? You didn't get a papercut again did you?" Misha nodded his head no and moved closer to the Medic.

"Is Doktor okay? Seems like you had nightmare." Misha put his hand on the man's shoulder lightly in attempt to soothe him.

"Oh! No dear Heavy! I am perfectly fine! I'm so sorry about that. Still, vhy are you here?"

" Misha has news for Doktor! Administrator said we get a break! Blu surrendered! For now at least...puny babies." Misha responded happily as he cracked his knuckles in amusement.

"Oh! Wunderbar! Zhis means I can work on my experiments some more! Hoohoo!" Misha smiled lightly at the other man's excitement before thinking lightly.

"Shouldn't Doktor take a break?"

The doctor, who was currently finishing some scrambled notes from the night before, looked at the other in confusion."Vhat do you mean? I just can't abandon all my vork! So much time means so much I can do!"

The heavy placed his large hands on the Medics shoulder.

“Doktor, all this work is bad for you. Doktor needs break so he can come back and do more and better work later and not hurt himself. You are very important member of team and we can’t afford to lose anyone. Heavy will take you someplace nice. We will have good time, da?

The Medic looked at Misha as he grumbled slightly. "But Misha! There is so much I must do! I won't have time to do zhis later!" The medic dropped his silver pen onto the desk in slight frustration.

"Yes you will Doktor. Now, relax for a bit. Doktor doesn't always have to work." The larger man had rubbed the Medics shoulders with his large yet gentle hands, effectively soothing the older man.

The Heavy began to feel some weight on his shoulders and he looked until he saw the Medics beloved dove Archimedes, who was perching upon him and nuzzling Heavy.

He then moved his hand towards the bird, effectively letting Archimedes perch upon his finger. The large man then gently settled the bird on Ludwig's shoulder.

"Oh! Hallo there, little Archimedes! I'm up late again, aren't I? Are you hungry, my Süß little dove?" Ludwig cooed gently at his beloved pet as he reached for a bag of bird seed.

Heavy looks at the affection given and how cute the two are together, thinking of how sweet it was. “Did Archimedes make doctor feel better? Would anything else help doktor, such as getting out of office? I know a good place doktor would love.”

Ludwig looked at Misha with a curious smile.

"Oh? And what would zhat place be?"

"It is surprise doktor! Would you like to go today?"

The older man almost jumped in excitement as he grabbed Misha's hands.

"Ja!" The man exclaimed as he clenched Mishas hands even tighter. "Zhank you for zhis Heavy. I don't know what I vould do vithout you." Misha had pulled the other man into his lap for a small sweet kiss, eventually separating and caressing Ludwig's cheek.

"Let's get ready, da? Dress light doktor, will be very hot there." Misha patted Ludwigs shoulder lightly before they both departed to get ready for their date.

I'm not much of a shipper, but sometimes I think about how some of my favourite ships would work based on my hcs jsnsjs

I imagine like, BLU Soldier being extremely dense for his own crush on BLU Engie. He doesn't even recognize the feeling and mistakes it for fear because whenever he's around the Texan he starts sweating, cheeks light up, stutters, mind goes blank, adrenaline rush and would shout to himself something along the line HOW COME I'M SCARED OF THAT LITTLE MAGGOT?!

Then RED Demo comes around and explains him he might just like him and ohhhh ok now I get it, I like the little maggot :) and that's how Soldier started to hang around Engie more on the battlefield, helping him getting metal and protecting him, with Engie being completely oblivious

Then like, Swordvan..... I'll have to blame Requiem for a Pizza for that. BLU Demo, adorable dork, and RED Sniper, shy adorable dork, I'd die for them

id say sol/demo is so much more popular because its been such a well established friendship through the war comic. in the main comic the mercs dont really seem to be friends so the most prominent friendship demo has is solly and unfortunately many ppl don’t think much about demo or his possible deeper relationships with others so demo/sol is kind of the default demo ship like heavy/med is for heavy

I just think it’s kinda lame just how much bnb has totally devoured demo as a character </3 I feel like a lot of both his canon and fandom presence is JUST him being there to be soldier’s bestie, like heavy’s kinda just there for medic a lot of content (but that’s a conversation for another day). like… it’s exceedingly rare that I see Demo just alone in a fanart without Soldier, and like once in a blu moon (heh) that I see him with anyone else. I love love love love bnb don’t get me wrong. i’d just… like to see more demo content that’s not just bnb content </3

I think “default ship” is a rlly good way to put it. like it’s valid that’s the first ship you think of when you’re talkin bout Demoman bc yes, valve put its entire ass into making sure they were the only besties in the comics, but like I guess here’s a post that humbly requests all ye who look upon to like consider another demo ship for a brief, fleeting moment. Things I like about each of the mercs

Scout: he is the cutest boy and I truly relate to him. I can be loud and obnoxious and just give the boy some love! He’s adorable and just wants to be seen as capable

Demoman: ok, his character is not my favorite, I mean he’s constantly drunk. BUT that manages to be one of the things I like about him. Yeah he’s drunk but he still functions well, I mean he builds little sticky bombs! Also he’s funny

Pyro: they are adorable! I mean the love little balloon unicorns! I mean, yeah, they have a flame thrower and and axe and whatever but don’t you just want to hug the little firebug! I adore their mumbles!

Heavy: Move over because Misha deserves SO much love! He works as a merc to support his family!!!! He gives his sandvitches to his teammates (medic) to heal them! How can you not love him!

Soldier: sure, yeah, he can be loud, and mean, and absolutely terrible to be around. But Gosh Dang it he has heart! He loves his country (a bit too much) but I think he really cares for the team under all that toughness, I mean he was friends with the blu demoman (thanks for ruining it Administrator)

Engineer: Sweet little Texan boi! He builds little sentries and dispencers! What’s not to love! Also, HE PLAYS THE GUITAR! I have spent soo much time learning the song ‘more gun’ from the meet the engineer video it’s unreal!

Medic: HAHAHA OKTOBERFEST! He’s literally insane but it strangely makes him more likable! Also arkamedies is adorable! Granted I wouldn’t want to be around him while he is close to anything sharp but he is still awesome!

Sniper: MICK MUNDY IS THE BEST MAN ALIVE! Um... I mean he’s really cool! He gets to sit behind the scenes and shoot from there! I mean yeah spy’s are cruel to him but he gets it pretty nice! (I’m a master at him in training matches) he’s a quiet man who loves his adoptive parents a lot. I’m just gonna go cry over the story arc for him.

Spy: the Frenchman who wears expensive suits to balls them complains that he got them dirty. I wish we could see his face! Still, even though he abandoned scout at birth and backstabs Mick he seems to love the team (not that they are ever allowed to know that) he spent what he thought was gonna be his last three days helping Jeremy (scout) get his last wish. Also he tried to help everyone get their last wish even though it didn’t work.

All and all, I can’t help but adore all of them, though I think we know who I favor the most!

Unpopular opinion - As much as people love him as a character, I somehow love/hate playing against him because he gave me one of the traumatizing moments in TF2 while playing as a Medic

Favorite relationship - Sniper/Scout (Speeding Bullet), I’m more into the platonic side than romantic.

Favorite headcanon - Very insecure when it comes to romance and doesn’t know how to deal with normal conversations other than his teammates.

2017 Beer in Review

To put it as nicely as possible, if you follow politics at all, 2017 was a year that encouraged drinking. Here are some of the beers that made 2017 a little more bearable for me:

I was saddened in 2016 when I found out that Leinenkugel’s Snowdrift Vanilla Porter was no longer available in 6 or 12 packs unless you bought a variety pack of Leinie’s. But in 2017, by popular demand, it’s BACK and just as good as I remembered it. In 2012 I hadn’t yet developed an appreciation for porters or stouts. Surprisingly, at Curly’s Pub inside Lambeau Field, the wife talked me into trying it for the first time and it’s still one of my favorites today.

Speaking of styles that I didn’t like so much just a few years ago and now I love, the first time I ever tried a bourbon barrel-aged beer was 2013, and I did not like them. I tried a few more in 2014 and still had little love. I remember saying to people, “if I want something that tastes like bourbon, I’ll just drink bourbon.” But times and tastes change and now the bourbon barrel-aged stout is now one of my favorite styles of beer. And the Citizen Kane of BBA stouts is Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout. I first tried this at a bar in Washington D.C. (The Exchange) just a couple blocks from the White House. I actually hated it because it was too strong (13.8%). I tried it again in March of 2017 (2016 vintage) and I loved it. It’s boozy, thick like molasses, and dark as night. It’s a very limited beer, so not only is it expensive but it’s hard to find. The 2017 vintage was released on Black Friday and I remember seeing on Twitter how long the lines were in Chicago to buy it. Many liquor stores sold out in hours. I happened to be at a bar in Plover watching the Badgers football game when I saw it on the menu, so I ordered it and took the bottle home. I drank it after a Packers win two weeks later.

Also only available on Black Friday, the Lakefront Black Friday Stout is known for [crazy] people lining up for miles around the brewery on the morning of Black Friday just to get a bottle. I was lucky enough to sample it at a warm indoor beerfest in Milwaukee. While it was absolutely amazing, I’m not sure any beer is worth waiting in line for hours in the cold.

Initially I wasn’t a huge fan of many Central Waters beers, but they rank up with Goose Island when it comes to bourbon barrel-aging. Over the Thanksgiving weekend in central Wisconsin we stopped at the brewery in Amherst. They had four different BBA beers on tap, but the winner by far for me and a friend was the Brewer’s Reserve BBA Scotch Ale. My friend probably had never even sampled a BBA beer, but after he did he wanted to take some of this stuff home.

Special shout-out to their Brewer’s Reserve BBA Cherry Stout, which wasn’t available at the brewery but I’d purchased a 4-pack of it earlier in the year and finished the last one off on New Year’s Eve.

In 2015 my favorite winter warmer was Lakefront’s Holiday Spice Lager. I was appalled when I found out that it was discontinued in 2016, to the point where I wrote the brewery to complain. They responded that it was replaced with Brandy Barrel-Aged Spiced Winter Lager. I sought out this beer, and it instantly became my new favorite warmer. Even smoother than the Holiday Spice (which the 2015 vintage is still available in 22oz bombers), the brandy flavor isn’t as strong as bourbon or whiskey-barrel aged beers...but it’s still very potent at 13.9%.

Southern Tier Brewing Co has been releasing 4-packs of dessert stouts (for a premium price). I tried a number of these, many being just too sweet for me to fully enjoy. But the Thick Mint is one that has me going back for more. It’s 10% ABV, very thick, and tastes just like a Thin Mint, which everyone knows is the best Girl Scout cookie (leave your incorrect opinion in the comments if you disagree).

We made two trips to NYC in 2017 and visiting Brooklyn Brewery were highlights of each trip for me. Very few beers by Brooklyn have disappointed me even just a little. My favorite was a R&D sour only available at the brewery called Funkmeiser. The fad of sour beers is still going strong, but noticeably ramping down (possibly giving way to the new fads of hazy IPAs and dessert/pastry stouts), at least for me. This beer, however, pleased me greatly as it seemed to get more and more sour the more I drank it. Sadly I couldn’t take any home with me.

One of our new favorite hangouts in the Milwaukee area is the Explorium Brewpub located at Southridge Mall. They have great food, an extensive taplist of their own brews, and bombers to go. The wife loves their Tiramisu Stout, while I’m partial to the Bourbon Barrel-Aged Barleywine, as well as the Cherry Chocolate Stout.

My favorite import I tried in 2017 was the Petrus Aged Red from Brouwerij De Brabandere in Belgium. Possibly the best fruit beer I’ve ever had not counting anything from New Glarus. It was purchased from a liquor store in Brookfield, so I imagine it’s not too difficult to find in Madison or Milwaukee. I’ve even had it on tap at World of Beer in Wauwatosa.

2017 will be remembered by me as the year New Glarus brought back a Cherry Stout. I bought some at the brewery and it was so good I later stocked up at the liquor store, knowing I’d miss it dearly when its availability ran out. This is easily my all-time favorite stout and my favorite beer of 2017. The cherry flavor is bold and tart while the beer is very dark and smooth. I hope they bring it back again soon, because I only have 8 left.

In 2017 I only attended two beerfests: Great Dane Bockfest for my 3rd straight year and Craft’s & Drafts in Milwaukee for the first time. C&D was an amazing fest but you have to pay additional money for the better quality pours.

And finally a solemn RIP to Leinenkugel’s “Big Eddy” line of beers. These were premium beers including Royal Nektar, Russian Imperial Stout, Über-Oktoberfest, and one of my perennial favorites, Cherry Doppelschwarz. Although I did hear from Dick Leinenkugel himself that there’s always the possibility of a return someday.

Also RIP to Karl Ratzsch, a downtown Milwaukee authentic German restaurant. I was only there once, but it was a great time with great food and great beer.
