“God won’t give you more…”

(for someone who needs to hear this again)

There are a lot of unhelpful statements about God.

“God won’t give you more than you can handle.” That one has to be in the top 10.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard it. Or how many people I’ve heard it from.

It’s people who are trying to help. Said with the best of intentions. Usually at the worst of times.

It seems reassuring at first.

Let it sit for a minute, and you start to see what’s wrong with it.

It’s got things backwards. About how we work as human beings. Life isn’t about us handling it.

We were never meant to handle things on our own. That’s not how we’re built.

And that’s not who God is. God is not the god of abandonment, of leaving us to handle things on our own.

One thing God will never say to you? “Not my circus, not my monkeys.”

We have to push God away, we have to work at it, if that’s what we want from God.

God is willing, God is waiting, God is wanting to help us.

God will be with us in every part of our lives. God will support us and strengthen us, no matter what we’re going through.

All we have to do is ask.

If you and I want to fix that line, maybe it should read something like this,

“God won’t give you more than He can handle.”

tell us about Vasco lore!!! what's the relationship between him(?) and Machete?

Machete and Vasco met in Venice in their early 20's, they were studying theology at the same academic institution. Their relationship was short, less than a year I'd say and it had to be kept strictly in secret. Things eventually fell apart because of Machete's increasing nervousness and inability to let anyone get that close to him. He went on to become a priest as intended and lost connection to Vasco.

#abandonment issues activated #you know when your self esteem is in the pits and someone shows you a crumb of kindness and they become this saintly figure in your eyes #they can't leave you if you leave them first #also you have to remember this is 16th century and right under the nose of a homophobic church #I've read that Florence in particular was more lenient at the time but penalties were still very high #stressful times all around

People talk at length about Jonathan saying that he would join Mina in vampirism if they are unable to save her, but consider.

They are too late to turn Mina human again, but she retains enough of herself that she refuses to let Jonathan join her in what she sees as damnation. Instead, he lives a human life with his vampire wife before dying a natural death. Except, years down the road, he finds her again. We get the reincarnation romance, but it's Jonathan returning to Mina time and time again, as it should be.

i think most art that tries to critique christianity, and specifically american charismatic christianity, is shallow and honestly corny unless it comes from someone who has experience w that institution

#and by experience i mean either grew up in it or has done a lot of research #i'm listening to saved! by reverend kristin michael hayter (lingua ignota's new project) and parts made me very nauseous in a good way #like for the most part she's just playing it straight and that's more effective than any over the top parody could ever be #like being raised to believe that you are constantly at war w yourself and your mind and your body and you cannot trust yourself #bc you're inheritantly sinful and these authority figures (both the church leadership and god) are the only ones who can properly guide you #and all of the ppl you love but aren't christian are going to hell and it's your job to either convert them or leave them behind #bc they'll just tempt you to abandon your own road to salvation so you should only form relationships w other christians #is already terrifying on it's own w no more random bits hooked on to it and her voice is so haunting and the production is so off putting #like she sounds so desperate in parts of this album like she NEEDS what she's saying to be true and she's gonna force it to be real #anyway parts of this album brought me back to being a child and seeing ppl collapse screaming sobbing and speaking in tongues around me #and i forgot how much that scared me #my posts #.txt

Revisiting a few SCP characters I made a while ago, possibly for a future comic series? I liked their vibes and thought of how fun a SCP-610 outbreak survival-mystery would be with them all. It will most likely be episodic instead of Two and a Half Anomalies' one shot nature.

It was one of the spaces he actually occupied frequently; an complicated set of walls that he just stripped down to its bare bones emotionally most days. Loud music blaring, echoing around while he twirled around with his eyes closed. Ever so light hopping on, off the pews and enjoying himself. And song after song of it- until he was spinning ever so fast, with perfect balance on the back edge of the pew bench. Until the last song was hitting its final chords. With which he ran along its length- using one foot to push himself off into the air. That moment before gravity was able to grip tight. While he just sort of drifted; even with his wings not present. Before his boots impacted soundlessly, an little last spin on the tip of them for the final seconds of instrumental. Just standing there for an moment with his eyes closed. Then the little run, slight gliding despite the heavy traction of his boots with an little help of his wings to fill the dead air with some more music.

I mean, they’re both right! Lucifer was an ass and he was in character! :P But it’s hysterical all the same.

#the comment 'didn't see Chloe abandoning the kid' also delighted me #because I expected people to be surprised by that but also they shouldn't have been #Chloe ran away for a month and teamed up with the too-Catholic-for-the-Catholic-Church side of the Vatican #to permanently banish Lucifer to Hell after finally seeing his Devil face #She just caught a glimpse of it out of the corner of her eye and shot him in S1 #but -- and I'm observing from the outside still so please correct me if I'm wrong --#fans don't seem to integrate that into Chloe's characterization #They just get mad at her for not reacting the way they would react and then write it so she's more chill about everything in their fics #But this is a canon where Amenadiel can scare the shit out of someone with his wings #his ANGEL wings! so this mother’s day weekend i have to go back to my hometown to defend my mother from some ladies who have been bullying her at church (which???? okay. high school never ends etc.)

unfortunately my mom attends an extremely conservative evangelical church and i just dyed my hair pink so.... sorry mom

#in a perfect world my mom would abandon her religion and become a more progressive and less anxious person #but that's not gonna happen without literal divine intervention so in the mean time i will accept my mom feeling comfortable at her church #my whole family is very bad at forming social bonds #and this is the first church my mom has managed to attend consistently since i was a baby #and now she's being bullied?????#i just feel so sad for her #(also ACAB the ringleader is an ex-cop)#(who could have guessed that)
