My memory is terrible so I wanted to do a breakdown of my stuff every once in a while. Might be monthly, might be whenever I feel like it.
QL - Currently Watching
🇹🇭1000 Years Old [10/12] - This is dragging and I am incredibly bored.
🇹🇭23.5 [4/12] - This show is incredibly cute and I'm smiling through the whole thing. Aylin is my favourite and I'm hoping against hope for the teachers to become a couple. Make it happen gmmtv!
🇹🇭Deep Night [6/8] - The long shots are killing me but the story is moving fast. There's a surprising amount of good communication and the throuple is almost inevitable a this point.
🇰🇷Jazz for Two [6/8] - This is the first bl show where I read the source material before the show and I wish I hadn't. The changes that were made just don't make sense to me, because I don't see how it serves the story. But putting that aside, the story feels rushed and the pacing is weird. The second couple doesn't read believable with this time frame. Anyway I might edit this post when I watch the last 2 episodes. [EDIT] Completed. Final thoughts here. 🇯🇵Love is Better The Second Time Around [4/6] - Why must you do this again Japan? 6 episodes for this one? I'm not happy about this. This show is so good. I love how the mains communicate, not to mention they are beautiful to watch.
🇯🇵My Strawberry Film[7/8] - I have no idea what this show is about nor it seems does it. Do I care at this point? Nope, not really. Let it be over.
🇹🇭To Be Continued [6/8] - This is getting into The Promise territory and I'm not amused. Another one that is dragging and I like the second couple but they barely have any screen time. I'll finish it because there are only two episodes left but I'll be sprinting to the finish line.
🇹🇼Unknown [7/12] - It hurts so good. The songs were killing me this episode. I really liked the separation, I think it was necessary for them. Yuan seems more mature and it will be interesting to see how it changes the relationship.
QL - Finished
🇹🇭Cherry Magic Th – What a wonderful surprise this was. Tay and New are beautiful together and their chemistry was on point. I really liked how the source material was used here.
🇯🇵Cherry Magic Anime – It was quite faithful to the manga with only a couple of deviations and of course it didn't cover everything but I really enjoyed watching yet another version of these characters.
🇹🇭Dead Friend Forever – It was quite a ride. I specially enjoyed the communal watching of this one and all the theories as more people tuned in. Didn't love the ending but it was better than I thought. Still not over White though. 🇯🇵Although I Love You, and You? - Started great, the middle was meh, and by the end I wasn't invested enough in the couple so even though it ended happy, it didn't make up for the rest of it. 🇯🇵Perfect Propose - Great all the way through. I loved this characters a lot and still think it's amazing how well the time was used here. 🇯🇵Ossan's Love Returns - It's Japan at it's finest. Love, food, chaos, found family and cherry blossoms. What more can I ask for? 🇯🇵She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat - My heart grew.🖤
🇹🇼Anti Reset - This is one of the most frustrating shows I've watched in a while. This started off strange and most of the show doesn't seem to know what it wanted to say about the AI part of it. It drove crazy on a weekly basis. But I thought their chemistry was really good and they are just an adorable couple. These 4 VBL series [Stay By My Side, You Are Mine, Vip Only] were a mixed bag for me. I think Stay By My Side is my favourite overall.
🇨🇳The Spirealm - First of all, Ruan Lan Zhu is absolutely gorgeous and his outfits are always perfection. The visuals are really good. This was definitely not a cheap production. The sets for all the doors are incredible. Talking only about the game, I gotta say the second door was my favourite. The bromance toes the line, but I'm not surprised this was taken down. I think if they'd kiss it would be less obvious than some of their scenes. I'm not going to spoil the ending but if you're thinking about watching here's your warning. A bit after the halfway point it gets incredibly sad and the ending is just heart-breaking.
Dropped 🇹🇭A Secretly Love [3/10] 🇹🇭Kiseki Chapter 2 [2/6] Also haven't started Two Worlds because I'm waiting to know if I should bother. I'm experiencing a bit of Thai bl fatigue so we'll see.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Takumi-kun 1: And The Spring Breeze Whispers (2007) - The editing is choppy as hell and it gets hard to understand the characters motivations. And the acting is not good. Yeah, not a fan of this one. Udagawachou de Matteteyo (2015) - This one is weird. I recently watched Life as a Girl so I admit that the comparison doesn't help this one at all. The idea is interesting but the execution is poor. There's a couple of scenes that are a bit hard to watch. In this particular story I think if we had a bit more insight to the characters motivations it would've helped me connect and feel more invested. In the end, for my particular goal it was fine I guess.

It's been a year of Rose this month. And it's been kinda great. It took me a while to get over my shyness here and I still feel intimidated but it's gotten better. The people in this space have been really kind to me and I appreciate it so much. Thank you so much for the space.
That's it for right now. As usual my ask box is open for gif requests and any other questions. Happy Easter to all who celebrate.
Have a good week💜

Funky Lil Lookism Headcanons
Random list of headcannons I have collected over time in my notes app. Most of these were from last year💀.
J-High/Johan/Hostel
If he's not out there literally stopping illegal organizations, Daniel watches anime during his free time.
Zack can actually speak English decently. (Mira ONCE told him that she couldn't understand this English song and he just started learning English just so he could translate everything to her).We love a Bisexual and Bilingual king.
Mira was REAALY interested in Psychology when she was like 13-15 and Zack would be trying to impress her saying "Johan is crying. I know that something is wrong because I am an empath😌" while Johan is literally having a breakdown on the side of the room because of the bullying
Jay and Joy both collect coins/ paper bills from any country they could get their hands on.
The girls would have a monthly girl's night out where they splurge and be the girlbosses they are.
Mira had an astrology phase and would base everyone on their zodiac sign.
Sally has a secret stash of BL under her bed hhh. YOU SAW HOW SHE REACTED WHEN JAKE AND ELI ACCIDENTALLY KISSED WHILE FIGHTING. MY GIRL HAD AN AWAKENING
Zack listens Ricky Montgomery.
Eli definetly exploits the fact that he's an attractive Asian and would post shit on tiktok like "Pick your Asian🤪" or "I'm just a lonely Asian. Who wants to keep me company🥺🥺"
Warren has a tiktok account where he does pranks on hostel members(and sometimes Big Deal if he sharpened up his Jeet Kune Do skills cause boy-) but he doesn't know that the comments are laughing AT him not WITH him.
Hostel probably share one whole tiktok account where they post family stuff.
Sally, Natalie and Amy, and Derek and Max would also duet Eli and Warren's cringey tiktoks.
Zoe DEFINETLY had that acrylic painting on calculators phase and now every single person in the classroom has painted calculators by yours truly.
Johan gets cold really easily.
Jasmine probably runs an online shops where she sells cute children's clothes and other accessories and she's actually a decent mother figure to the kids.
Zoe thinks the prettiest features of a person is their smile and she finds irregular/toothy smiles really cute.
Joy is a really popular editor on Instagram and would even edit her friends.
Zack's type is definetly brown hair and puppy-like visuals.
Jay teaches Joy simple self defense moves.
Jace would tell Vasco little fun facts throughout the day and Vasco absolutely loves them.
Workers/Big Deal/Choi group
Jake would color in his tattoos when stressed.
Everyone in Big Deal is gifted handmade scarves and lip balms by the girls from the street.
Samuel used to have a Gabpryong Kim stan account
Vivi used to secretly bring food from the mansion to Xiaolong. Xiaolong always refuses to take it.
Sinu can do a perfect Joker impression down from the mannerisms to the voice.
I have no idea how but Jerry and Johan would've been friends and Jerry would've called themselves "the pretty boy duo😎" 💀💀
Kouji likes grape Fanta and thrives off that drink.
Goo gives new suits to his secret friends every month. He always makes sure to give Samuel's clothes a size too small.
Samuel would rather get beat up by Jake than admit the fact he cried during Encanto.
Lineman would make really bad metaphors and would have to explain what it means.
Gun and Goo watch survival shows together. They loooveee the Produce series.
Gun and Goo used to post the cringiest unfunniest shit on Vine. Goo still thinks it's top-tier humor.
Kouji made one of those "cringefest vine compilations"on YouTube which was 90% of their videos.
I firmly believe Jake is still stuck on his musically phase and taught Johan 2016 slang while they were doing their shift as bouncers. You do not understand how mortified Zack was to hear Johan use 2016 slang.
Gun actually just tells everyone he meets who's at least decent at fighting that they're "wOrThy tO bE mY suCcEsSor" just to inflate their ego.
Every time Big Deal wants to recruit someone into their gang, they just chase them down until they get a yes.
And those are some of my Lookism headcannons! If you guys want some more of a specific character you can just ask me! I'm not particularly good at romance headcannons though so...maybe someone more talented can help you with that💀💀.

Chapter 1: Get the Gang Together
Tumblr media
Summary: With the Fab Four found dead, Molly Hernandez was furious. Secrets of the Runaways’ parents are discovered at the monthly Pride meeting.
Word count: 3,279
Author’s note: I decided to write something different for a change! I’ve actually been meaning to release the first chapter of this fic since December 2019. Runaways have a special place in my heart as well as the universe of Danger Days and the Killjoys. That’s why I’ve decided to write them in one universe to honor them both. I tried to do some justice writing this chapter by adding the seedlings to Deanoru and Gertchase. Hopefully, it’s not too bad. By the way, I recommend listening to Get the Gang Together by Gerard Way as you’re reading this chapter. The chapter title was named after that song. :)
Breaking news! This just in. We just got a report that the infamous group of killjoys known as Party Poison, Fun Ghoul, Kobra Kid, and Jet Star are dead. They have finally been caught in a tragic accident that cost them their lives.
These were the words that came from the tv Molly Hernandez was watching from in the Yorkes’ living room. She was stunned at the news report. Her heroes were found dead. Molly couldn’t believe what she was seeing. It could be false, right? Sometimes you can't always trust the news. But Molly was proven wrong when the footage was shown of the four beloved heroes she looked up to were on the ground dead. She had enough when the news channel decided to give a closer look at the bodies. Molly tore her eyes away from the tv and closed her eyes. She wished those images displayed on the tv out of her mind. It was until her sister, Gert, that interrupted her from her breakdown.
“Molly?” Gert walked in the living room in search of the 16-year-old. When Gert saw what was displayed on the television screen, she frantically reached for the remote to turn it off.
The purple-haired girl kneeled by Molly’s side and asked her sister in a worried tone, “why were you watching that? You know you shouldn’t be watching stuff like that on tv, Mols.”
Molly didn’t realize tears had spilled from her eyes when she opened them to look at Gert. “T-they’re dead, Gert. The Fab Four a-are dead.”
It had dawned on to Gert the graphic images they were broadcasting on the television screen were the cause of Molly’s breakdown. “Oh, I’m sorry, Mols.” Gert moved to hug her sister.
“Who could have done such a thing? I thought they were invincible?” Molly sniffled.
“Mols, no one is invincible. Everyone has a weakness.” Gert pushed a strand of Molly’s hair behind her ear.
“The Killjoys had a weakness? Well, how come they survived in the zones for such a long time?” Molly didn’t fully believe in what Gert had to say.
“Look, I think we should continue this conversation later,” Gert said, changing the subject. “We need to go with mom and dad to the monthly Pride meeting later.”
“Wait, what?! Why are we going with them this time?” Molly whined. She started to sulk on the couch.
“I don’t know, but it must be important,” Gert got up to start packing her backpack. “You don’t want any Dracs to come here looking for you, right?”
“Why would they come over here when we’re not the enemy?” Molly questioned.
“Mols,” Gert said in a warned tone. “Just get ready. Please.”
Molly sighed exasperatedly and marched to her bedroom to get ready. “Fine!”
“Don’t forget to take your meds! It’ll calm you down!” Gert yelled. Molly closed her bedroom door in reply.
Molly clenched her fists and screamed into her pillow. She knew the Fab Four didn’t die in vain. Molly refused to think that way. There had to be someone that was behind it. And she will figure it out for herself. If she doesn't, she won’t ever forgive herself for not doing so. Thinking back to the last thing Gert told her, Molly looked at the pills that were placed on her vanity.
“Screw it. I’m done with this.” She said out loud. Grabbing the pill container, she threw it in the trash in disgust. Molly didn’t spare a second glance at her trash bin while getting ready for the meeting.
---------
Molly and Gert were sitting in one of the lounges in the Wilder house. They were waiting for the other teens to come by. Gert had to agree with how the monthly Pride meeting was boring. Like the kind that bored you to death.
“So you do agree with me?!” Molly exclaimed. “Why couldn’t you tell Stacey we should’ve passed the meeting?”
“They’re our parents, Mols. We need to listen to them.”
“They’re your parents, Gert. Not mine.” Molly retorted with a scowl.
“Look, I know you’re still torn from this morning’s news,” Gert said with a sigh. “But just for tonight, try to be on your best behavior. If you’re comfortable, you can talk more about this morning if you like.”
“I’m good. You wouldn’t understand anyway.” Molly twisted her body, facing away from the purple haired girl. Gert can’t help but feel bad.
She hated to admit it, but she knew very little about the Killjoys. Gert only knew of the things that were broadcasted on the holos and television. She tried her best to sympathize with Molly, but it felt kind of strange to do so. These Killjoys were strangers to her. Could she be able to trust them at all? And at the same time, there were other things that were more important to care about.  Like what college she was going to attend. There were very few varieties in Battery City. But before she could go over the pros and cons of each college, she heard loud chatter coming from the lobby.
Gert decided to get up and make her way to the lobby of the Wilders’ home. When she stopped at the balcony, she saw none other than Chase Stein with his parents. Chase was all smiles and hugged Alex’s parents. Seeing Chase in the flesh reminded of the many years she had been pining over the jock.
She was tempted to go greet him, but Karolina and her mom appeared. Chase’s smile that he had on became extremely big when he saw the blonde.
“Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Wilder! I made some appetizers for the adults to enjoy!” Karolina made a little gesture towards the container in her hands.
Alex’s parents were impressed by Karolina’s effort.
Honestly, Gert didn’t like girls who were like Karolina. They were WAY too perfect for her liking. Gert knew no one was perfect, but Chase has somehow fit into that definition of it. And guys like Chase were drawn to girls like Karolina. And not Gert. He never spared a glance at her when they were kids compared to Karolina. The purple haired girl walked back to the lounge, feeling her mood shift to be much shittier than before.
“Gert!” Karolina called out behind her. “It’s so nice to finally see you here after all this time! Come here!”
As soon as she turned to face Karolina, Gert was greeted with the blonde gently wrapping her arms around the purple haired girl. Gert was weirded out by the sudden hug. Why would Karolina be so glad to see her? They were polar opposites of each other.
Gert slowly retracted from the hug and mustered up a smile. “Uh yeah! It’s nice to see you too.”
“I love your hair by the way! Purple suits you well.” Gert wondered if Karolina was just saying that just to be nice or if she was genuine.
“Thanks...You’ve gotten taller.” Gert awkwardly pointed out. She wasn’t the best at small talk.
“Yeah! All thanks to my parents.” Karolina jokily made a little jazz hand gesture. “Who’s at the lounge by the way? Is Nico here?”
“No. It’s just me and Molly.” Gert decided to walk back to the lounge.
“Oh, nice. I can’t wait to catch up with Molly after all these months.” Karolina said while following the purple haired girl.
When both girls made it to the lounge, Karolina quickly hugged Molly. Gert noticed Molly’s mood went up a bit, which was good. Hopefully, her sister won’t act too grumpy for the rest of the night. Time passed by and the other teens gradually appeared in the lounge. Alex had been the one to appear last.
“Sorry I was late. I picked up some pizza for the six of us.” Alex greeted the other teens. “I’m glad you guys came.”
“Why are we here exactly, Wilder?” Chase queried with his arms crossed. “You must have your intentions.”
“I thought it was a great idea for us to hang together again, you know?” Alex replied. “Now, do you guys want to eat?”
“We came over for this? If you said you wanted to hang Alex, you could’ve texted all of us.” Molly said. “Besides, today isn’t a good day to hang.”
“Molly, just stay put. You never know, this could cheer you up and take your mind off of things.” Gert remarked.
“Wait, hold on. What does she mean?” Alex pointed out Molly’s discomfort, slightly curious.
“Don’t you dare say anything, Gert!” Molly demanded.
Gert ignored her sister’s request. She almost debated whether she shouldn’t tell, but decided to spill anyway. “She’s heartbroken about those four Killjoys dying.”
“You mean those four that showed up on the news this morning?” Alex questioned.
Gert nodded in response. Although she hated when Molly was in a bad mood, she didn’t feel it was necessary for Molly to keep sulking around.
“I hate to say this Molly, but they were outlaws and criminals,” Alex stated.
“Excuse me?” Molly stood up from her seat, obviously offended. “What they’ve been doing was brave. They were fighting for a good cause!”
“You do know our parents are the ones that work for BL/ind. Going against BL/ind means going against our parents.”
“Well, my parents aren’t my real parents so…” Molly crossed her arms and glared at Alex.
“Guys, can we please stop arguing? Look, Molly’s mourning and she sounds like she’s having a rough day. Give it a rest, Alex.” Karolina said as she coaxed Molly to sit back on the couch. Molly obliged and Karolina sat next to her.
“I’m just being realistic.” Alex adjusted his glasses. The pizza was still untouched at this point.
“Well, you don’t have to remind us. Let Molly be.” Karolina was rubbing soothing circles on Molly’s back.
“I honestly agree with Molly. You could have just texted us if you wanted to hang out rather than use our parents’ monthly meeting to your advantage.” Chase said.
“Would you guys have replied or even cared to look at my text? We haven’t been together since-”
“Don’t,” Nico warned. “Don’t say it.” For a moment, the whole room became silent. That was the first thing Nico has said the entire time the teens got together for the night.
“I thought you weren’t listening to us,” Alex said with a hint of surprise.
Nico smiled meekly. “Oh, I’ve been listening. It’s just that I don’t want to be here as well.”
“Oh, uh okay.” Alex shifted his foot awkwardly. “How about we do something fun like Twister to lift your spirits up?”
“What are we? 12?” Chase replied. “We’re not kids anymore.”
“Well okay. If you don’t want to do that, then let me show you something else.” Alex abandoned the pizza and walked over to a table near the wall. “Maybe this is something that might be on your level of fun.”
The rest of the teens looked at each other confused at what was to come next. Alex turned a stack of coasters that were on the table. The shelves nearby the door parted, revealing a doorway.
“You guys can go on without me. I’ll just stay here and wait until you come back.” Molly was heading to take a seat on the couch again until Gert stopped her.
“No, Mols. You’re coming with us.” Gert held her hand. “I don’t want to leave you here alone.”
Molly sighed and let Gert lead her further in the secret passageway. The teens walked inside with Alex leading the group. They were close to each other in case something happened. There was a room at the end of the passageway. Once the teens reached the end, they looked around the room.
“What is all this?” Nico stared at the room in bewilderment.
“I’m not entirely sure. I discovered the secret passageway earlier today, but didn’t see what was inside.” Alex wondered out loud. A bunch of spread out papers near him caught his eye. “And what are these?”
The teens gathered around the table Alex was standing near. There were a bunch of documents littered all over the table. The documents contained photos of people that looked like their age. What was unsettling was that their photos had been crossed off. All of the photos that were crossed off were listed as exterminated in bold.
Gert took one of the documents and scanned it. “This is currently striking high on the disturbing meter,” Gert commented worriedly. “Does exterminated mean killed?”
“Sounds like it,” Nico said before noticing something off. “My mom’s purse is in here. Where could she be?”
“If these documents are here, then I don’t think our parents have been doing any good for the city.” Chase looked at the others. “I wouldn’t be surprised if my dad was a cold-blooded killer.”
The teens heard footsteps echoing below them. All of their eyes widened. They scrambled to look for hiding spots. Luckily, they found a secret room that has a window overlooking the bigger room outside.
“Bring the girl in. We don’t have all day to do this.” Tina grumbled.
Leslie entered the vast space with a teenage girl beside her.
“Wait a minute. I know that girl.” Karolina said.
“You know her?” Alex turned to the blonde.
“Yeah, she’s a part of the church. What’s she doing here?”
“Leslie, where am I? Who are these people?” The girl looked at the teens’ parents frantically. “I don’t recognize them from the church.”
“It’s okay, Destiny. They’re helping me with the initiation.” Leslie assured. She gave a bottle to Destiny that contained an unknown liquid. “Here, drink this.”
Destiny nodded, trusting the church head. How could she say no to her anyway? She took the bottle in her hands and took a sip. Destiny immediately almost dropped the bottle after she finished, but Geoffrey caught it.
Destiny held her head. “I don’t feel so good. What was in that drink?”
“Don’t worry, you’ll be fine.” Leslie ignored her question. She rubbed Destiny’s back before turning to Victor. “Are we ready, Victor?”
“As always. We never run out of masks.” Victor noted confidently. He hands a Draculoid mask to Geoffrey.
Destiny was trembling. Leslie was still comforting the girl. “Just hold still. It will all be over soon.”
Geoffrey swiftly pulled the mask on Destiny. She tried to resist, but Leslie was holding her still. As soon as the mask was completely on Destiny, she screamed.
“Wait maybe you shouldn't see this, Mols.” Gert reaches to cover Molly’s eyes.
Molly moved Gert’s hand away from her. “I deserve to know what’s going on!” When Molly stole a glimpse of what happened to Destiny, she almost screamed. Gert reached to cover her adoptive sister’s mouth. She looked at the other teens. They also adopted a look of horror on their face.
“Did you hear that?” Geoffrey looked around the area suspiciously. “I heard something.”
They looked at the window that overlooked where the parents stood. There was nobody there.
---------
“Your foot is not in the right place!”
“Get off of me!”
“You’re cheating!”
Those were the things Alex’s parents heard coming from the lounge. Catherine greeted the teens, “Hey guys. We hope we’re not interrupting you all.”
“Hi, mom! Nah, we’re just playing Twister.” Alex said.
“You guys actually came when things were about to get interesting,” Molly commented.
Alex’s parents nodded. Geoffrey spoke this time, “It looks like you guys are having fun. Your parents will be downstairs when you’re ready to go.” They waved the teens goodbye and left.
The teens watched as Alex’s parents leave. Karolina was the first person to say something. “Did you think they suspected a thing?”
“I sure hope they didn’t. Them finding out is probably the death of us.” Chase commented.
The teens separated from their game of Twister. They stood up, dusting themselves off.
“So what are we going to do, Alex?” Gert asked. “We can’t just stay here and pretend nothing happened.”
“Just act normal when you guys leave with your parents. I’ll text you guys to meet up tomorrow.” Alex told the other teens.
“Where are we meeting up? Somewhere in Battery City?” Molly wondered.
“Our safest bet is to meet in one of our homes,” Alex told the other teens. “Devising a meeting in Battery City is dangerous. The security is very tight there.”
The rest of the teens nodded in agreement. There was no use in disagreeing with each other.
---------
“Hey, Gert. Have you seen Karolina?” Chase asked Gert who was on her holo. The pair were in the lobby.
“Am I boring you with my appearance already?” Gert automatically replied without looking up from her holo.
“No! That was not what I meant.” Chase defensively said. “It’s an honest question.”
“Unfortunately, no. Is that all you wanted to say to me?”
“Look, I just wanted to know if you knew where she was. Also, I wanted to check up on you and Molly after what we just saw.” Chase explained. “It must be pretty harsh for Molly to experience that.”
“Yeah, but I think she’s alright now. She’s a strong girl.” Gert powered off her holo and looked up at Chase. “And as for me, I’m doing peachy.”
“Well, that’s good to hear.” Chase dug his hands into the pockets of his jeans. Gert knew he was a little nervous. She heard his mom call for him. “Well, looks like I gotta go. It was nice seeing you, Gert.”
“Yeah, see you tomorrow.” Gert watched Chase exit the house with his parents. She didn’t bother giving her childhood crush a smile.
She stood there until Molly showed up. She couldn’t believe Chase actually had the guts to try to talk to her. Maybe Alex getting the gang back together wasn’t so bad after all.
---------
“Hey, Karolina. You alright?” Nico politely asked the blonde. The two girls were outside of the house. “I noticed you’ve been quiet before we parted from the lounge.”
“Uh yeah. I guess I’m fine? I’m not entirely sure if what we saw back there was real.” Karolina rambled. “Like my mom is the head of a church. There’s no way she would act that way.”
“I’ve been thinking the same thing. I wouldn’t think my parents would be like that.” Nico says. “But I guess we can figure this out together?”
“Yeah, that sounds good.” Karolina smiles at the goth. “You know, I don’t think I have your number on my holo.”
“Oh, hand it over. I’ll type it in.”
Karolina handed her holo towards Nico. “Thanks. I think it’s for the best you know. After everything that happened tonight.”
“Yeah, I thought Alex couldn’t get any weirder.” Nico handed the holo back to the blonde. Their hands touched a little in the process.
Karolina’s mother had pulled up to the curb near the Wilders’ home. Karolina said, “Well, I’ll see you tomorrow?”
“Yeah, tomorrow.” Nico smiled a little. She watched Karolina open the car door and hopped into the front passenger seat of her mother’s car. The blonde waved at Nico goodbye and she waved back. Nico looked back at her holo and smiled at the recently added number.

The Chase Files Daily Newscap 26/11/2019
Good Morning #realdreamchasers. Here is your daily news cap for Tueday, November 26th, 2019. There is a lot to read and digest so take your time. Remember you can read full articles via Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS), Barbados Today (BT), or by purchasing a Daily Nation Newspaper (DN).
Tumblr media
PAC GRILLS EX-MANAGER – The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had lots of questions for former quality assurance manager at the Transport Board, Sylvan Codrington, yesterday, but for chairman Bishop Joseph Atherley his answers were mainly “vague”. However, Codrington, who worked at the state-owned agency for 45 years, 13 as quality assurance manager, was definitive about the thousands of dollars shelled out by the board for parts for buses that continued to break down after they were serviced and fitted with parts. He also expressed his past frustration at being unable to take some actions he considered within his purview. For example, he spoke of a $1.7 million bill for transmissions for 14 buses, and yet those same buses encountered repeated breakdowns. (DN)
CONSULTANTS HIRING AT TRANSPORT BOARD QUESTIONED – Shocked! That’s how the former Quality Assurance Manager at the Transport Board Sylvan Codrington said he felt after learning that Trinidadian David Bartholomew had been hired as a consultant at the state-owned enterprise. Speaking before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in Parliament this afternoon, Codrington said he was surprised Bartholomew was given the job as he had served in a different capacity while working in Trinidad. He made the admission after PAC chairman Reverend Joseph Atherley asked him whether he believed it was an error to engage Bartholomew’s services as a consultant. The Trinidadian was hired by the Transport Board in March 2016 on an initial six-month contract, to undertake the repair of 200 defective buses.. Codrington revealed that his duty as Quality Assurance Manager was to oversee all the engineering aspects for the Transport Board. “When he came to Barbados as the consultant I was taken aback because when I visited the Trinidadian Bus Company he was deputy engineer with that company. Then months after I heard he was a consultant with us, so I was shocked,” replied Codrington, who was QA manager from 2005 to 2018 . When further questioned by Atherley about his perception of Bartholomew’s effectiveness in the role, Codrington said, “It wasn’t coming over to me very clear as to what he was seeing because he was in one capacity and then he went into another capacity and operating as a consultant.” Despite those views, Codrington said he worked closely with Bartholomew. He said there was a spirit of cooperation between them even though from time to time “they had their differences with the engineering aspects of things”. However, Codrington took issue with certain notes which Bartholomew made in respect of the operations of the Quality Assurance Department. In a report handed over to the management of the Transport Board, Bartholomew claimed that personnel from the Transport Board’s Quality Assurance team had not visited service providers for an extended period and that there appeared to be a casual approach to the repair and return of buses. “That is incorrect,” Codrington emphatically stated. Bartholomew also suggested that the QA department lacked “the managerial and administrative skills needed to effectively monitor and manage the units at the external service providers…” But in rebuttal, Codrington said while he had a staff of 30 persons working in that department, only five were sufficiently trained. He said there was also a need for more staff. Codrington, who worked with the Transport Board for 46 years before retiring on December 31, 2018, denied that the QA department, which he managed, circumvented operating procedures at any time during his tenure. “We did not circumvent any operating procedures. Not to my knowledge,” he contended. In fact, Codrington said he considered his time in charge of the QA department a success noting that there over 100 buses in service, a far cry from the less than 70 in operation now. “It was a success. Based on my knowledge and when I left office I had something looking like 115 or so buses on the road and now that I am out of office I was made to understand that there 50 and 70 [buses] and they aren’t making it into the hundreds at all,” Codrington said. PAYBACK FOR POWER OUTAGES STILL POSSIBLE – The utility regulator is giving the assurance that investigations are being carried out regarding the recent power outages, and “an appropriate action” will then be taken regarding compensation. This comes amidst increasing calls from residents and business operators for the Barbados Light & Power Company (BL&P) to pay consumers for two consecutive days of power blackouts last week. Information Specialist with the Fair Trading Commission (FTC) Nekaelia Hutchinson-Holder was not in a position to say if customers would definitely be credited for the break in service, or when. However, she pointed out that there was a process that affected customers had to go through. “Investigations are still ongoing as to the circumstances surrounding the electricity outages,” said Hutchinson-Holder. “As a result, appropriate action with regard to claims will be determined following an examination of the nature and cause of the outages,” she said. On Monday morning November 18 around 7:29, the BL&P’s approximately 130,000 customers were left without electricity for most of the day. While about 50 per cent of the power had been restored around 3 p.m. many remained with electrical power up until 11 p.m. when the full restoration was completed. The following day, the power went off and due to load sharing, customers then witnessed intermittent outages, which were compounded by water outages. The BL&P blamed contaminated fuel and aging generators for the disruption in service, which took individuals and businesses by surprise. The board of the electric utility company was asked to meet on the matter of compensation, but officials promised to speak to customers on that issue at a later date. In a brief statement, Hutchinson-Holder told Barbados TODAY the claims process for the BL&P included the completion of the Guaranteed Standards of Service Claim form on the BL&P website. “The form should be completed and returned to the BL&P’s customer service office at Garrison Hill, St Michael within three months of the date of the event giving rise to the claim,” she said. “The utility must then be given 14 business days to address the claim. If the customer is not satisfied with the outcome, they may contact the Fair Trading Commission for assistance. The Standards of Service, which outline each standard and the corresponding compensation when the standard is breached, may be accessed at the Utility Regulation link at www.ftc.gov.bb. Compensation is generally given in the form of a credit on the customer’s account,” she added. She also pointed out that in the case where an outage arises due to circumstances outside of the utility’s control, the utility company would be exempt from the Standards of Service requirements.  (BT)
REVERSE TAX CREDIT COMING – Lower income Barbadians will soon be on the receiving end of a Government policy intended to offset some of the burden being borne by citizens under the Barbados Economic Recovery and Transformation (BERT), according to a top economic advisor to Government. Chief Economic Advisor to the Ministry of Finance, Economic Affairs and Investment Ambassador Dr Clyde Mascoll, while addressing the congregation at St Luke’s Anglican Church over the weekend revealed the reverse tax credit promised in the PM’s March 2019 budget speech would be honoured next month. The tax credits amount to $1300 for Barbadians earning less than $25,000 a year and according to Mascoll, have been made possible because of Government’s ability to stabilise the economy in a short time. This, he argued allowed Government to “re-engineer a few things”, allowing those at the bottom of the “economic barrel” to benefit from “unprecedented tax relief” since July this year. The economic advisor however indicated that the reverse tax credit could not be distributed monthly, hence why it is being disbursed as a $1300 lump sum payment. “It can’t be given monthly, so you may not have seen the immediate effects, but starting this month, Barbadians earning less than $25,000 a year will all receive a reverse tax credit to the tune of $1300, but that could not have been granted immediately,” Mascoll said during the service at which the officials of the Barbados Trust Loan Fund were the special guests. He added: “What is also happening that people are not realising is that we do other transfers to help the poor. The reason why we decided to pay university fees for Barbadians is because only the poor would be affected. So when you start to repay university fees you again start giving opportunities to the poor.” Amid the benefits being given to low income citizens, Mascoll stressed workers were not the burden-bearers of Government’s intensive austerity programme. Instead, he claimed commercial banks, insurance companies and large bond investors were making the greatest sacrifices. He added that the country has been able to stay above the line in interest payments to external creditors totalling $500 million a year. In addition to the cash being given during the yuletide season, Mascoll promised that other social services would be improved, including  garbage collection and public transportation. “We also decided apart from education we had to rectify the social sectors because we were experiencing some difficulties in terms of garbage collection. But I am here to tell you that will soon be solved, because the trucks have been purchased. Last year at this same time we only had 12 garbage trucks and we now have 22 working,” said the economic advisor. (BT)
WOMEN’S CHOICE FOR MORE CHILDREN – Women have the power of choice to determine if they want children or not. Executive director of the Barbados Family Planning Association (BFPA), Anderson Langdon, said that in the 21st century, women should not be pressured into having children merely to prop up national insurance coverage and retirement funds. He was speaking against the background of statements made by Minister of Home Affairs last week when 64 people were inducted as citizens of Barbados. Hinkson said then the National Insurance Scheme and Pension Scheme were on the verge of collapsing due to the island’s low birth rate. (DN)
GREAT HOPE FOR GHANAIAN NURSES – Nurses coming from Ghana to work at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) and other public health care facilities are experienced and highly certified in specialty areas. This assurance came from the Executive Chairman of the QEH Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland who said that the nurses being recruited to start work from January 2020 were equipped with post basic qualifications. The hospital chief and a team of local health authorities recently returned from Ghana where they interviewed over 100 Ghanaian nurses. “We are really pleased with the quality of nurses that we saw in Ghana. They are solid nurses and I think they would be a complement to the nursing team that we have here. “We are going to get the opportunity to bring nurses in with specialist skills. And what is wonderful, is because it is a government-to-government programme they are coming to work with us, they are going to be having the same salaries and conditions of work as Barbadian nurses. “I understand that people have said that they are going to be paid different and better, that is not the case, that would be an industrial relations nightmare. There is a scale for nursing and it would be based on your years of experience and qualification,” she said. Speaking to members of the media following the hospital’s 55th Anniversary Service, held at QEH’s Chapel, this morning, Bynoe-Sutherland also indicated that Ghanaian nurses would receive a gratuity instead of a pension. “But as you have heard from the nursing fraternity, we need hundreds of nurses, so we don’t have enough of a throughput of local nurses. We are going to have to continue to supplement until we are able to get our basic and post basic programming up to provide the numbers that we require,” Bynoe-Sutherland added. Last Friday, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Jerome Walcott signed an agreement for the recruitment of 120 nurses from Ghana. The agreement was signed when Prime Minister Mia Mottley paid a courtesy call on President Nana Akufo-Addo in Ghana. (BT)
REPUBLIC MEETING FALLS THROUGH – The latest meeting to resolve the dispute involving staff at Republic Bank did not come off yesterday. Management and staff of the bank had converged at the Labour Department in Warrens, St Michael, along with deputy general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), Dwaine Paul, before 10 a.m. Both parties remained tight-lipped before the meeting was scheduled to begin, with Republic’s managing director Anthony Clerk declining comment and Paul saying he preferred to speak after the meeting. However, the meeting never took place as it was reported that Minister of Labour Colin Jordan was unavailable. (DN)
PSVS GIVE NOD TO TWO-MONTH TRIAL – The Association of Public Transport Operators (APTO) is not opposed to the recent decision by the Transport Authority to enforce the controversial five-minute rule for a trial period of two months. The body’s chairman Kenneth Kenny Best told Barbados TODAY while the decision had been accepted by its members, he was hoping that once the 60-day trial was over the authority would uphold its promise to share the information with permit holders of public service vehicles (PSVs). Just over a week ago, the Transport Authority informed PSV owners whose vehicles utilize the Constitution River Terminal (CRT) that they would be limited to using the loading bays five minutes in peak hours and ten minutes during off-peak hours. In a letter circulated to owners, the authority gave the assurance that data would be collected during that period and a report would be prepared and made available to PSV permit holders on its findings and recommendations. Best said he was satisfied that the authority had listened to some of APTO’s suggestions. “We put forward some proposals and after the meeting with APTO and AOPT [Alliance Owners of Public Transport], everyone came up with similar ideas for the improvement of the sector. “Some of our suggestions were taken into consideration because at one point it was a blanket five-minute rule and then we were able to get them to change it to peak and off-peak periods,” Best said.
“I would hope that the information and the data would be shared, so I am looking for that day to come so we would know where we’re at going forward.” Back in September, upset and irate PSV operators staged a protest following the authority’s decision to restrict their loading times in the CRT’s bays to just five minutes. A few days later the authority’s chairman Ian Estwick said following discussions, a decision had been taken to extend the loading time to ten minutes during off-peak hours ((5 a.m. to 6 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.) He pointed out that the five-minute rule during peak hours (6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.) would remain. Surprisingly though, Best said APTO members had accepted the authority’s most recent decision without much fuss. “We have had no complaints thus far. I don’t know if the other association had complaints but I haven’t had any complaints at all,” he said. Efforts to reach public relations officer for AOPT Mark Haynes proved unsuccessful. (BT)
DO MORE TO FIGHT VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN, CARIBBEAN URGED – Caribbean countries are being urged to do more to deal with the issue of violence against women as the region Monday joins the global community in observing International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. In a statement, the UN Women Multi-Country Office (MCO) Caribbean Representative Alison McLean said research conducted in the Caribbean in the past two years reinforced that violence against women and girls (VAWG) including rape is so entrenched and normalised that both men and women have a high tolerance for its manifestations. She said notwithstanding women’s well-known and often-touted gains in public life and the introduction of laws, policies and initiatives to promote women’s equality, prevailing socio-cultural attitudes that perpetuate unequal and hierarchical power relations reinforcing notions of female subordination and male domination, mitigate against these gains and in turn fuel VAWG. The UN Secretary-General’s UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence against Women campaign is focusing on rape as a specific form of harm committed against women and girls, in times of peace or war. The UN System’s 16 Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women and Girls activities is taking place under the global theme Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands Against Rape. McLean said that the UN Women-supported research, which is available for four Caribbean countries to date, shows non-partner sexual violence (NPSV) which includes rape, attempted rape, unwanted sexual touching, and sexual harassment, is reported at significantly higher rates than intimate partner sexual violence and a significant risk factor is being young. In Guyana, most women reporting sexual IPV reported being forced to have sexual intercourse when they did not want to and nearly as many women reported having sexual intercourse with their partner because they were afraid to refuse. On the other hand, one in every five women in Guyana reported non-partner sexual abuse in their lifetime; with a significant number experiencing this abuse before the age of 18. One-fifth of Jamaican women reported being sexually abused before reaching 18 years of age. Further one in seven women reported that their first sexual experience was before the age of 15 years. Under Jamaican law, the age of consent is 16 years old; any sexual intercourse under that age is statutory rape. The Suriname GBV prevalence survey revealed that the prevalence of NPSV among all women is almost double that of sexual IPV/intimate partner violence. In Trinidad and Tobago, the prevalence of NPSV is almost four times higher than that of sexual IPV. McLean said that without reliable and relevant data, it is not possible to adequately treat, reduce and prevent violence against women and girls. “UN Women has invested significantly in supporting member states in strengthening capacities to fill the data gaps on violence against women and girls. Working with regional partners, the Caribbean Development Bank and CARICOM, we developed the CARICOM Prevalence Survey Model. “The CARICOM Model is based on the long-tested global World Health Organization (WHO) model which is considered internationally to be the best practice for national, population-based studies on prevalence data on GBV.” She said this CARICOM model also “allows us to capture information on the consequences of GBV for women, their children and families, women’s help-seeking behaviours and risk and protective factors for violence. It allows in a real way for the voices of women and girls to be heard.” She said national-level efforts should seek to de-stigmatize the experience of intimate partner violence and to shift gender norms and roles in order to create a society in which violence against women is openly rejected and firmly addressed. Information on where women seek help and where they do not, should inform how services to support victims should be designed and located. Data on women’s and girls’ vulnerabilities, partner characteristics and other socio-demographic factors should guide how to prevent and respond to this violence,” she said. The MCO Caribbean Representative said UN Women, along with other UN agencies will be using the data gathered from these surveys to support national efforts to prevent intimate partner violence through school-based and community-based initiatives; including working with men and boys through Batterer Intervention and Prevention programmes and private sector initiatives that prevent work-related spillovers of family violence to create safe spaces at work. MONEY NO PROBLEM FOR QUALITY DATA – Lawmakers were today warned not to allow the state of the economy to jeopardize the country’s chances of having quality and up-to-date information so better decisions can be made at all levels. Francisco Javier Urra, the Inter-American Development Bank’s Chief of Operations for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean suggested that the hemispheric bank would provide the funds to help nations gather reliable data. Urra was speaking at the opening of the Caribbean thematic conference: Managing a Statistical Organization in Times of Change at UN House on Monday. Acknowledging that Barbados was currently undergoing an International Monetary Fund-backed (IMF) programme, Urra said it was now common for the IDB, which is also providing support, to have regular discussions with Government about making “strategic choices about budget allocation”. He declared: “We at the IDB, we believe that undermining the capacity of a country to have solid and accessible data would be a terrible mistake.” Stressing the importance of timely statistics for “good decision-making”, the IDB official said poverty and other issues facing the region were becoming more complex, required “good data” in order to find solutions. Urea said: “This is why for policymakers, for high-level officials, for those who try to enable policies that are cross-cutting, having that ground it is almost like a beacon in this time of austerity and this time of information and fake news. “So the role of having strong statistical offices is more relevant than ever.” Over the last two decades, the bank had provided $60 million (US$30 million) in the form of loans and technical assistance for the region’s statistical development. Barbados is in line for an $80 million (US$40 million) IDB loan to help modernize the public sector, including the upgrading of the Barbados Statistical Service (BSS). Praising Government for its modernization efforts, Urra disclosed that the loan should be approved by Wednesday. But he pointed out that while Barbados and other Caribbean countries performed “relatively well” in a number of areas of development when compared to Latin America and other countries, there was a lack of quality data, which he described as a “complicated situation”. Declaring that adequate data “goes beyond the walls” of the national statistical departments in the region, Urra said the IDB was willing to work closer with those agencies so they could help to strengthen the data collecting capacity of ministries and other agencies. Pointing to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) as an example of an institution that was lacking critical data, Urra pointed out that without critical statistics it would be difficult for the island’s main medical institution to get technical assistance from some development partners. While the digitisation of the BSS has started, the agency’s work has been set back by a lack of money and manpower. BSS director Aubrey Browne said the last modernization exercise ended two years ago with recommendations for a change in the agency’s organizational structure so that several units would produce statistics to be fed into a national digital database which would then be available to the public. Browne said: “One of the things we really have to work on now is developing a release calendar for the release of statistics. “We still have a way to go in terms of that development and the main challenge is [not] having the available resources to support the statistical organizations. “As you would be aware we are still operating under an IMF programme so we are having challenges in allocating resources. That is the main challenge we are facing at this time. “So right now we are operating at less than optimal situation.” Browne give an assurance that Government was moving with alacrity to sort out the BSS’s issues. Statistician with the CDB Dindial Ramrattan warned that demands from residents were constantly increasing, and if officials were not ready to deliver timely and adequate data they would have to contend with “fake news” and incorrect use of available information. Adding that the increased data demand was also driving increased scrutiny, and that technology was changing the way information was being shared, he said national data collecting agencies should operate in a timely and efficient manner by being “proactive, reactive and responsive”. The CDB official also urged Caribbean countries to learn from each other, development partners and the rest of the world, as he called for a change in mindset “where we are more social in how we deal with our matters, recognizing that social media, while our best friend with free marketing and free publicity, is also our biggest critic that is not always with accurate facts”. FOUR MAIN REASONS WHY YOUTH CAUGHT IN CRIME WEB – With more than six out of ten ex-convicts caught in a criminal justice revolving door, the Government’s top crime researcher and a panel of experts worry that an “unforgiving society”, childhood trauma, drug abuse and mental health issues work to keep young people trapped in a life of crime and violence. Director of the Criminal Justice Planning and Research Unit, Cheryl Willoughby, expressing concern at the rate at which people who had been jailed end up back behind bars also noted that many employers appear to punish ex-cons after they’ve paid their debt to society – by refusing to hire them. She said: “The recidivism rate is now over 65%, and in our research, we found that substance abuse problems were among the factors contributing to this, along with mental health issues that they were being treated for in prison but they stopped after they were released.  “Another matter that concerns us is when we look at unemployment of ex-offenders, 70 per cent of employers said they never employed anyone who went to prison, and 50 per cent said they would not employ anyone who had gone to prison.” Willoughby was among experts appearing in a Barbados Society of Psychologists’ panel discussion on Preventing Youth Violence at the Barbados Public Workers Cooperative Credit Union’s Harcourt Lewis Centre. Principal Consultant at the Potter Centre, Toney Olton blamed a lack of job opportunities for ex-prisoners on an “unforgiving society”.  He added: “A lot of places are asking for Police Certificates of Character as well, and if the Certificate of Character does not expose the person’s past, someone in the community will call and let the employer know the person has a criminal record, which jeopardises them in the job.” But the experts agreed there was little attempt to get to the real root of youth violence and crime or seek to understand the psychological issues behind the rising tide of homicides and assaults. Olton said: “All learning has an emotional basis. In today’s society, the busyness of parents and guardians means that they are spending less time with their children, and have replaced affection and guidance with material things.  “Many of our children also experience abuse and neglect fuelled by frustrated and emotionally unintelligent parents and the fragmentation of the family unit.” In comparing the violence to a volcano, Olton declared: “Once the lava is spitting, there is a lot going on under the surface; and in this case, the lava we are not seeing are feelings of inadequacy, inferiority, feelings of abandonment, unresourcefulness, sadness, depression, resentment and anger.” Primary Coordinator at the Substance Abuse Foundation, Allison Gotip, said while the majority of her clients were between the ages of 18 and 35, two children aged 13 and 15 are now on her list. Childhood trauma, such as abuse in all its forms, tended to lead to addiction, violent behaviour or even suicide, she said, expressing concern that children were not allowed to express their emotions freely and there was still too much of a stigma attached to mental health issues in Barbados. Gotip said: “We must allow our children to have a voice, to start listening to them and have meaningful conversations with them. “We have also found that when people come into our facilities in the throes of addiction, they have a lot of undiagnosed mental illnesses because there is a stigma to having mental illnesses over here. “So with all that suppression, along with domestic violence, divorce and separation, a lot of children deal with these, and statistics show that those who have experienced four or more adverse childhood experiences are more likely to commit suicide or suffer with depression.” Dr Sherri-Ann Catwell, the Senior Registrar at Ward C4 of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, said most of her patients had experienced a traumatic situation in their home. She told the audience: “A lot of these people came from families with a lot of interpersonal conflict, had bad relationships with peers, were exposed to abuse or drugs, and there was an association between suicide attempts and violent behaviour when exposed to drugs early.” Some of the solutions the panel identified entailed getting parents and grandparents involved in discussions on why their charges were acting out, since the behaviour was often fuelled by what they experienced in the home, or unresolved trauma the parents or grandparents themselves had never addressed. Olton also suggested a greater emphasis on emotional intelligence, that is, helping people to understand what influenced their behaviour and showing them more appropriate ways to deal with the challenges they faced. EDEN LODGE PRIMARY DEFACED – Students of the Eden Lodge Primary School had to be temporarily relocated this morning after offensive graffiti was discovered on several walls of the school. The Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) was called in and the school given a security sweep, while students were housed at a nearby church. After conducting investigations, members of the RBPF gave the all clear for students to re-enter the school around 10:43 a.m. Officials from the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training have covered the graffiti temporarily. The Ministry plans to have the walls repainted this weekend. (BGIS)
ST PHILIP MAN SLAIN IN SHOOTING INCIDENT IN ‘VIETNAM’ –  Barbados TODAY now understands the residence is that of his two-year-old son and the child’s mother, 41-year-old Nichole Alleyne which he visited from time to time. Efforts to speak with Alleyne were unsuccessful as she was finally resting after enduring a sleepless night. A close relative and neighbour informed Barbados TODAY the incident occurred during the night, when most people were sleeping. The source however was awakened by what sounded like someone “killing a centipede with a shoe”. Residents later found out it was the sound of numerous bullets being fired. At the end of the gunshots, Scarboro was left dead at the residence where a four-year-old girl, a 21-year-old woman and their mother also lived. “The youngest child wasn’t able to see what occurred, but the girl that is four saw everything, and even when the officers came they said she would need counselling,” the source recalled, while indicating it was extremely difficult to get them to sleep after the commotion. Residents however indicated they knew very little about the dead father, who they saw in the area sometimes. At his Farm Road home in the same parish, a male middle-aged male answered the door. While declining to identify himself, he indicated that none of Scarboro’s family members were at home and he did not know the young man well. Next door, one woman said she did not know the young man well but was shocked to hear of his passing. (BT)
ACCUSED MUST ALLOW FINGERPRINTING – Allegations that a 42-year-old man robbed another at gunpoint while on Glendairy Road have resulted in remand time at Dodds prison. Matthew Mortimer Phillips, of Lennox Avenue, Goodland, Black Road, St Michael is accused of robbing Rommell Nanton of $15,000 in jewelry on October 18. The jewelry comprised a chain and pendant as well as a ring. The unemployed man was not required to plead to the indictable charge before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant today. He is also charged with using a firearm on the same date in commission of the crime. Before he was remanded, the magistrate imposed an order that Phillips allows lawmen to fingerprint him. Phillips will reappear before the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on December 23. (BT)
SURETY TO FORFEIT BAIL MONEY – Not only did a woman who absconded from court lose her freedom for the next few weeks but her surety now has one month to pay half of the bail amount or she too will find herself behind bars. “Ms Marshall has been missing from the court for a long time. It took a new charge sheet to get her back here,” Station Sergeant Cameron Gibbons told the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today about the accused Kesha Melissa Fiona Marshall. The 33-year-old, of Dunscombe, St Thomas had been before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant on two offences allegedly committed on April 25, 2017 – refusing to leave the premises of Savings Plus Supermarket when told to do so by a person in authority and assaulting Selvin Lovell causing him bodily harm. She had been on $3,000 bail since her first appearance after denying the charges. The accused however, appeared in the No. 1 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on November 22 on a theft charge to which she entered a not guilty plea. She was again granted $3,000 bail but it was revealed that warrants had been issued for her for failing to attend court on the pending matters. “When I came to court last Friday and they said I missed court . . . but I was in prison until last year May,” Marshall told the magistrate. However, a check of the court’s records showed that she had not been before court since July 2018. “You were given the date of July 20, 2018. You were not in prison then,” Cuffy-Sargeant said even as the accused’s surety said that she would like to say something. The surety explained that she had only come to court today because she had been informed that Marshall had missed a March date last year. But the magistrate pointed out that it was now November 25 and “You are coming here . . . for a date in March 2018? She is your responsibility as a surety. She has been MIA (missing in action) since July 20, 2018. The bail sum is $3,000 you have to pay half of that.” The magistrate then gave the surety a month to pay the court $1,500 or spend three months in prison. The accused Marshall meantime was remanded to Dodds to reappear before Cuffy-Sargeant on December 20. (BT)
PATIENT STEALS DOC’S PHONE – Sticky-fingered glaucoma patient Paul Devon Francis has been placed on a bond for the next 12 months for stealing a cellular phone belonging to a health care official at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. If the convicted No. 12 George Street, Belleville, St Michael resident breaches the order imposed on him today by Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant, he will spend six months in prison. The complainant Kristen Da Silva had completed an examination on Francis when she left the patient room for talks with the doctor. On return to the room she noticed Francis closing his bag near to the area where she had left her $3, 260 cellular phone. Thinking nothing of his actions at the time, she gave him his six months appointment, and continued performing her duties. It wasn’t until sometime later that Da Silva realised that her electronic device was missing. The matter was reported after she was unable to locate it despite checks. “She is the doctor that check my eye cause I have glaucoma. I ain’t no tief. I ain’t know why I get in that deh. I should have never taken it. She had leniency on me, so I don’t know how you can deal with it. I suppose to have another appointment at the hospital to check my glaucoma. I won’t let it happen again because it ain’t me,” the convicted man said. The police report said that Francis admitted that he had sold the device and purchased a pair of slippers and a phone with the money. The stolen phone was recovered. “At least I feel good that she get back her phone,” Francis said prompting the magistrate to tell him that he was missing the point. “No ma’am I should not have taken up it”. ARCHER SUBJECTED TO RACIAL ABUSE – New Zealand Cricket says it will apologise to Jofra Archer after the fast bowler received “racial insults” from a member of the crowd following his dismissal during the first Test against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui. Archer made 30 from 50 balls on the final afternoon of the match, but was unable to prevent New Zealand from sealing an innings-and-65-run win to go 1-0 up in the two-match series. However, that achievement was overshadowed shortly after the finish, when Archer tweeted about the treatment he had received as he left the field at the end of his innings. He said: “A bit disturbing hearing racial insults today whilst battling to help save my team, the crowd was been amazing this week except for that one guy, @TheBarmyArmy was good as usual also.” In a statement, NZC said that the perpetrator had not been located, but that the board would be in touch with Archer to apologise. “New Zealand Cricket will be contacting, and apologising to English fast bowler Jofra Archer, who was racially abused by a spectator as he left the field at the conclusion of the first Test at Bay Oval, Mt Maunganui,” read the statement. “Although security providers at the venue were unable to locate the perpetrator, NZC will be examining CCTV footage and making further inquiries tomorrow in an endeavour to identify the man responsible. “NZC has zero tolerance towards abusive or offensive language at any of its venues and will refer any developments in the case to police. “It will contact Mr Archer tomorrow to apologise for the unacceptable experience, and to promise increased vigilance in the matter when the teams next meet in Hamilton.” Archer later confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that the abuser had been a solitary New Zealand spectator, making comments “about the colour of my skin”. He also claimed that the same person appeared to have contacted him via Instagram with further insults. “I don’t think it would happen in England,” Archer said. It was a tough match for England, but particularly Archer, who was required to bowl a marathon spell of 42 overs in New Zealand’s solitary innings, and came in for criticism for an at-times lethargic display. He picked up a solitary wicket, that of BJ Watling who top-scored with 205, but also served a reminder of his menacing attributes when he struck Henry Nicholls a heavy blow to the helmet on the second evening. The ECB later confirmed that an investigation into the incident was ongoing, in conjunction with NZC, “NZC and ECB ensure that clear guidelines are in place at every venue so that watching a cricket match is safe and enjoyable for everyone,” said the ECB in a statement. “Whilst this is a relatively isolated incident there is absolutely no place for anti-social or racist behaviour within the game and it is vitally important that all spectators feel able to come forward to report such behaviour and feel safe in doing so.” (BT)
WALES, ELLERTON WINS SET UP FINAL DATE – Weymouth Wales emphatically booked their spot in next Sunday’s Capelli Super Cup final after a pulsating 3-1 win over arch-rivals Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme (BDFSP) in their semi-final clash on Sunday night at the Wildey Turf. Wales have had the longest and arguably most difficult route to the final, but saved their best performance to date for the clash with the BDFSP, with goals from Romario Harewood, Shaquille Boyce and Walton Burrowes settling the matter for the Carrington Village side. In the other semi-final, Crane and Equipment Ellerton prevailed over difficult playing conditions and earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the University of the West Indies (UWI) Blackbirds. (DN)
KOLIJ SWEEP THE POOL – The Kolij Lions didn’t seem to miss top swimmers Danielle Titus and Nkosi Dunwoody. Without the two who are now competing under the SMS Cougars banner after helping the Lions to several triumphs in the pool, Harrison College secured the girls’ and boys’ titles during the finals of the Secondary Inter-School Swimming Championships at the Aquatic Centre yesterday. They took the girls title with 273 points and were followed by Christ Church Foundation and The St Michael School with 176 and 165 points, respectively. The boys reigned supreme with 540 points, Queen’s College placed second with 327 and St Michael finished third with 311 points. (DN)
SLUICE GATE OPENING: BEACH TO BE CLOSED – The sluice gate at the Graeme Hall Swamp, Christ Church, will be opened on Tuesday. The Ministry of Environment and National Beautification says this is necessary to reduce the high water levels and to re-balance the swamp. As a result, Worthing Beach will be closed to the public from 6 p.m. tomorrow, until noon Wednesday. Red flags, which indicate no swimming, will be in place along the beach, and bathers are asked to adhere to the flags and any other signs erected by the National Conservation Commission. (BGIS)
UBER LOSES LICENCE TO OPERATE IN LONDON- Uber will not be granted a new licence to operate in London after repeated safety failures, Transport for London (TfL) has said. The regulator said the taxi app was not "fit and proper" as a licence holder, despite having made a number of positive changes to its operations. Uber initially lost its licence in 2017 but was granted two extensions, the most recent of which expires on Monday. The firm will appeal and can continue to operate during that process. London is one of Uber's top five markets globally and it has about 45,000 drivers in the city. Overall, there are 126,000 licensed private hire and black cabs in the capital. If its appeal is unsuccessful, some think Uber drivers would move over to rival ride-sharing firms such as Bolt and Kapten."There would be competition that would fill that void quite quickly," Fiona Cincotta, a market analyst at City Index told the BBC. TfL said it had identified a "pattern of failures" in London that placed passenger safety at risk. These included a change to Uber's systems which allowed unauthorised drivers to upload their photos to other Uber driver accounts. It meant there were at least 14,000 fraudulent trips in London in late 2018 and early 2019, TfL said. The regulator also found dismissed or suspended drivers had been able to create Uber accounts and carry passengers. In one example, a driver was able to continue working for Uber, despite the fact his private hire licence had been revoked after he was cautioned for distributing indecent images of children. Helen Chapman, director of licensing at TfL, said: "While we recognise Uber has made improvements, it is unacceptable that Uber has allowed passengers to get into minicabs with drivers who are potentially unlicensed and uninsured." London Mayor Sadiq Khan said: "I know this decision may be unpopular with Uber users, but their safety is the paramount concern. Regulations are there to keep Londoners safe." (BBC)

Louis wakes up in the middle of the night and can't fall back asleep. Harry helps him.
2) Your Lips, My Lips, Apocalypse | Explicit | 3211 words
The club isn't the best place to find a lover.
Or is it?
3) Someone Drunk, Someone Stoned (Nirvana Covers The Hole In The Wall) | Not Rated | 5543 words
All Louis had to do was get good grades and get a degree. Hot, horny, and determined frat boys with bad pick-up lines and devilish smirks were NOT included in the college brochure.
4) Look What You've Done To Me | Explicit | 5662 words
Or, the one where Harry finds an old nude of Louis' on a porn site, gets jealous and much smut and kink (and fluff!!) ensues.
5) I'm Addicted To You | Explicit | 6167 words
They don't get to do what Louis wants until a couple of weeks later, after being knee-deep in work and trying to cover everything that has to do with the topic. They agree on everything Louis would like to experiment with, and Harry agrees mostly on everything. It's not extreme per say, but not having to touch Louis during it, it feels a little too extreme for Harry nonetheless.
6) Every Color That You See | Explicit | 6568 words
Zayn likes art, Louis does not. Harry gives them both a tour of the National Gallery in London. Flirting and artistic dirty talk ensue.
7) Missed Connections: Circumstance Will Decide | Explicit | 10697 words
Or - the one where Louis is desperate to track down the cute, fit guy wearing the blue bandana, but the universe seems to have other plans.
8) I'll Save You Right Back | Explicit | 12320 words
Note: We advise you to thoroughly read the tags before starting this fic, as it may contain triggering content.
Louis suffers from the demons of his past, they haunt him and make him have a breakdown every now and then, but Harry is there to save him, always.
9) Honey, Honey | Explicit | 13194 words
It’s 1988, and Louis has to make a mixtape for Harry
10) I Won’t Give Up So Come And Get Me | Explicit | 15387 words
The one where Louis meets Harry and it all just seems too good to be true...
11) My Saddle’s Waiting | Explicit | 28383 words
When Harry finds himself in charge of Ford's installation at the Chicago Auto Show, there's already a lot on the line. Little does he know that a seemingly harmless bet on the fastest pony car might just up the stakes even more. With the help of a few familiar friends, Harry finds out that sometimes it's not about the destination, but who's along for the ride. And that Niall will not be denied his churros.
12) If Ignorance Be Bliss | Mature | 30265 words
Uni AU: Harry is too experienced, and Louis just wants to get to experience him.
13) Heart Born Out of Fire | Mature | 31212 words
Note: We advise you to thoroughly read the tags before starting this fic, as it may contain triggering content.
AU where Louis is a sad, sad omega in hiding who hides from everyone and trusts no one. Until he does.
14) Nimble | Explicit | 42117 words
Note: There isn’t actual sex in this fic, so normally we wouldn’t include it, but all mentions of sex are BL, so we figured we would anyway.
Or Louis Tomlinson is matched to the elusive and infuriating Harry Styles and the unlikely pair navigate the murky waters of appearances, lies and illusions together. Will they overcome their differences and co-operate for the benefit of society or will their secrets tear them apart?
15) Where You Lay | Explicit | 86035 words
When Louis's upcoming heat threatens his success at his new dream job, he asks the best (and only) person he can think of to help him through it: his best mates' best mate, Harry Styles. Harry reluctantly accepts, and together the two navigate a strange friends with benefits relationship that quickly turns complicated.
16) Collision | Not Rated | 205291 words
Mythology/Fairytale!AU in which Louis is a dainty fairy with a temper who wants to be intimidating and Harry hurts people. Naturally, they hate each other.

Hey guys, back again for another blog post. This week (missed last week, was in hospital for couple days). I'm fine now though. In this weeks blog I'm going go over a couple questions from you guys. One was how I performed by sport over last year. Two is my approach to baseball. I'll review monthly numbers here first though. First few days of baseball are in books. Been good as well as out month. I am +7.74 units. All good. For the year I'm 58.41. Records are decent. Regular picks have been 11-4 and BL running 4-6. Anyways some decent constant growth going on again. Take it every month. It is still really early in month yet though. Okay for question #1. How did you perform over all sports in last few years? Well to answer this question is kinda hard for me. Mostly because I don't record my records by sport. To me a bet is a bet regardless of what sport it is. Now I do track a lot of things by sport. But I don't always bet them. I track for example my record with NBA games with line advantage both with and against public. Have been for couple years. These type of things are what give me confidence to bet these games. But I do have a way to answer your question Tom. I have been using Onside sports app for over a year now. And it does break it down. Now I can tell you there are holes in this but will give you a idea. Some of the holes are is sometimes that app screws up, sometimes I get better numbers. But like I said it is a idea. Onside tracks by winning stars. I have treated a star as a unit. 1-5 scale. Now you guys who have been around awhile know I have changed approach from betting 1-3 games a day at 5 units a piece to a broader approach of 5-20 a day at 1 unit sometimes 2 and a single 3 so far. So I will explain a bit further as I go briefly through each sport. NFL -15.3 units. Now almost the whole NFL season was played under 5 star bets. So down 3ish units. Look NFL is king but is really the worst sport to bet. Not hardly any value at all. But it is fun and you can lose 3 units over a course of season it's prolly worth it. I started season out on fire.....but finished on ice. Ironically that is opposite of last few years. NBA -60.8 units. Now look, it is not as bad as it seems. The first month and half was brutal with tough beats. All of the 5 unit fashioned. Got to -80 stars at one point. Not making excuses. But it was this that above all made me want to change approaches. I was sick of going 3-1 or 5-2 on leans to just lose SGP every night in horrible fashioned. To make things worse I came into season +15 or so unit. So since changing approach thinks have been decent. It will take a few years to lower that number. NHL -4.2 units. I don't know what to say. I want to be good a hockey. Just like baseball. But I struggle. This is a true -4.2 units. Although it is really more like -3.43 units. Still have confidence BL will show me value eventually in this blasted sport. And don't forget things were going well until a horrid 1-9 run. And the one came last night. Well it can't all be as bad as those three or nobody would pay a lick of attention to what I say. MLB +41.7 units. This is prob my favorite sport to bet. I can attack several ways that I will cover in bit. These were mostly of the 5 unit variety. And I expect to replicate this number every year in bases. CBB +65.7 units. Great season in college hoops. Entered season down 10. And mostly this was done Jan till now. BL helped greatly with cbb. A lot of plays. A lot of 2 unit plays. I hate CBB. I don't like to watch it or bet it. But it is going nowhere. I can keep hating it forever. To much value. NCAA FB +87.5 Look it is my favorite sport to watch. It was the sport that got me into gambling on sports in first place. Will never go away. These were all done in 5 unit fashioned. And may well stay that way. I love the way I attack it. So there it is.....a sport by sport breakdown. Not exact. Tom next year I will have much better idea because I currently us SA to track and they keep a sport by sport tally also. With my lines and they don't screw up. I started with that one month after starting new approach. So it will provide some nice feedback. And eventually may lead me to breaking down to only 3 sports a year. Okay I said I would answer question #2 but it is a long answer also and I'm really just wanting to watch Cavs, so Beetlejuice Ill go over approach to baseball next week pal. Sorry. So that's it guys, good luck stay safe, and for gods sake someone have a beer and whiskey for me. Can't drink for another week or so.......Sharky

Monthly likes/dislikes
❣️ Vice Versa - ugh. it’s so good so far. Like an actual masterpiece. I just love that the story + setup is different. It’s abstract without being cheesy and it has me glued to the screen at all times. The cast is superb, Jimmy and Sea are absolutely killing it, also I’m living for all the Bad Buddy references lol. It’s also nice to see ohmnanon again in this different setting and overall it’s just so much better than I anticipated. I hope it stays at this level. Oh and also the cinematography?? And all the color references?? fck me up. 10/10.
❣️ The Eclipse - I’m just gonna put this on here even though it hasn’t aired yet because how could I not 🥺😩 it looks so good. I know some people disagree but I liked this trailer so much better than the first one. I know it could be misleading but I’m really hoping for a 50/50 balance between the curse- and the love story. But we shall see. Either way I’m so ready for F&K to own my ass for the next 3 months. 11/10 can’t wait.
👎🏻 Unforgotten Night - I honestly still don’t know if I love it or hate it djgkfdf I wouldn’t say I had high hopes but somehow I had faith that it could maybe be good... I was wrong lol. It’s so bad. I love Ton as Kim, he’s adorable and very likeable, same with Baiboon - but Yoon?? heck. He’s by far the worst pick for this kind of role. You would think he has improved his performance by now after being in so many shows but nah. He’s giving me nothing. However despite all, it is quite entertaining -  just because of how ridiculous it is. So I guess I’m having a good time. But it’s abysmal. 0.5/10.

Self-driving cars could wipe out 4 million jobs — but a new report says the upsides will be easily worth it
Autonomous vehicles could add $800 billion to the US economy, a new report says.
The report also says the negative effects are being overblown — only about 4 million jobs will be directly impacted.
The report is from a non-profit focused on reducing America's dependence on oil, called Securing America's Future Energy.
Many of the fears surrounding self-driving cars are widely overblown, a newly published report says.
Even though the new technology could radically re-shape plenty of jobs, autonomous vehicles will likely only raise the US unemployment rate by a tenth of a percent, according to the report out Tuesday from Securing America's Future Energy, a Washington D.C. non-profit focused on reducing American dependence on oil.
"Like many new technologies before it, the public discourse around AVs has witnessed a significant focus on potential downsides, often with considerable exaggeration," the 52-page report said.
“Simulations of the impact of AVs on employment showed a range of impacts that would be felt starting in the early 2030s but would only increase the national unemployment rate by 0.06–0.13 percentage points at peak impact sometime between 2045 and 2050 before a return to full employment. Through 2051, the marginal impacts on the unemployment rate will remain quite low when considered from an economy-wide perspective, below the current uncertainty in the monthly Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) unemployment reports.”
Still, industries that depend heavily on human drivers are likely to see a bigger impact than the broader population.
"The displacements induced by AV adoption are predicted to be far larger in the commercial sector—a diverse category, ranging from school bus drivers to long-haul truckers in double tractor-trailers—than in occupations impacted by light-duty vehicle automation," says the report. "There are simply far more driving jobs in the commercial trucking sector."
That’s likely to be good news for some companies. America has a critical shortage of long-haul truck drivers. And as the impact is beginning to show up on balance sheets, many companies — including tech giants like Amazon — are sounding the alarm.
Self-driving cars could net the economy $800 billion
Even with the job losses, which will only affect a small percentage of the total employed US population, the economic benefits easily make it worth it, according to the report.
"Significant economic benefits from the widespread adoption of AVs could lead to nearly $800 billion in annual social and economic benefits by 2050, mostly from reducing the toll of vehicle crashes, but also from giving productive time back to commuters, improving energy security by reducing dependence on oil, and providing environmental benefits,” says the report.
Here’s a more detailed breakdown of where the group sees those benefits coming from:
Finally, the non-profit encourages lawmakers and others involved in writing policy to consider all aspects of self-driving cars before taking action.
"Policy steps to address the evolution of the labor market must ultimately be placed in the context of the broader impacts of AVs in order to ensure the best outcome, says the report. "Due to the large-scale societal benefits from the deployment of AVs, policies to address labor force issues must carefully consider their potential impact in delaying the deployment and thus the benefits of AVs."

My memory is terrible so I wanted to do a breakdown of my stuff every once in a while. Might be monthly, might be whenever I feel like it.
BL - Currently Watching
7 Days Before Valentine [11/12] - Unlike some other shows, this one is actually getting better towards the end. I appreciate that Sunshine did some self reflection and became a better human being and I really enjoy the visuals here. Also, 7 days before valentine we will watch the finale, so that's neat.
Cherry Magic Th [7/12]– I like what the thai version is doing with the source material, I think they are being really smart and I'm so happy I got to watch the shopping date and the helicopter ride that were missing from the japanese live action.
Cherry Magic Anime [4/12]– I'm enjoying all the parallels way too much. Part of me wishes that it had stayed closer to the manga but since I get that also from Thailand, I can't complain.
Cooking Crush [9/12]– My expectations weren’t as low as maybe other people because I'm a OffGun fan but I am enjoying this show way more than I thought. It’s so refreshing to see good communication and well rounded characters that are given the space to work stuff out and be honest with each other. I feel for Samsee, cause, been there.
Dead Friend Forever [6/12]– this show continues to surprise me every week. I’m a big horror and slasher fan so for the premise alone I was gonna watch it. But I’m liking the way they chose to structure this story, moving from the slasher bit to the past at that moment was really smart. The visuals are so strong in this and I’m enjoying the communal murdering impulses towards the original friend group.
Ossan's Love Returns [3/12] - It’s chaos but the kind that only Japan can get away with for me. That season opener alone would’ve made me stop watching if it wasn’t for that. But the thing about these characters for me is that they get to be this ridiculous because it’s all grounded in such heart and kindness towards each other. It's a balancing act that only Japan can deliver at this level.
Playboyy [10/14] – I applaud the effort to make something new and out of the bl box, I think the show is trying to talk about interesting things and there are moments where the visuals are very strong. However, the acting is the weakest part of the whole thing and so I cannot connect to the characters, which leaves the whole experience kinda empty for me.
Although I Love You, and You? [3/10]- Japan my beloved. What’s there to say? Sakae is my new favourite boy and I’m really enjoying these two bridging the gap in their personalities.
The Sign [10/12]– Phaya and Tharn are delightful. Yai is the bestest boy ever. But there’s too many loose threads considering we only have 2 episodes left. There’s still to much going on and the investigation part of it just seems too disconnected for me to care. I really hope they're not counting on a special or a second season to wrap this up.
BL - Finished
Last Twilight – No need to repeat myself. here and here
Love for Love's Sake - What a wonderful surprise this was. Yeo Woon is one of the most adorable characters of all time and I seriously cannot handle it. From the beginning there was always a cloud over the whole story and I think in the end it all came together really well, to give us a happy ending that feels earned. Also really appreciated the way the story dealt with the triangle. Most of the time I hate them with a passion so I was really happy that Sang Won didn't just disappear and stayed in the group and kept teasing Yeo Woon. And now I'm just suppose to move on?
Night Dream – I liked the beginning a lot, but, as it’s becoming increasingly frequent, it dipped as it approached the end and although I liked how it finished I wasn’t a fan of the path to get there. Time skip once again not used well.
Sahara Sensei to Toki-kun - I have not seen the finale yet but I didn't want to wait so I might update this post when I watch it. However, Toki is my favourite boy, and I just want him to be happy.
VIP Only – Cute but ultimately forgettable.

So this month I started my journey into older jbl stuff in order to have a bigger understanding of the landscape and what came before. With the help of the amazing @twig-tea I've started this journey with 2 films: Ai no Kotodama (2008) - Such a wonderful way to start this adventure. Really enjoyed this film. Without spoiling it, I understand that the beginning of the film might turn some people off of it but I think it's actually really smart and purposeful. I would definitely recommend it.
No Touching At All (2014) - Also really enjoyed this one. The direction is really interesting I thought. I feel it's all very intentional and it reflects very well the characters state of mind.
And because Cherry Magic opened the anime gates I also watched:
Tumblr media
Given (2019) - This is SO GOOD. This show rewired my brain. Just now I was listening to THE SONG and I got emotional again. Every once in a while I enter this mindset where I feel like nothing that I watch can surprise me anymore. Then I watched this show. My thoughts after watching can be found here.
Not BL - Watched this month
Tumblr media
The Killing Vote Taxi Driver 2 Vigilante Fermat no Ryori
Well, that's it I guess. Now I have to go and make some Love for Love's Sake gifs because I just can't move on and need to live there a little longer. Speaking of gifs, I'm always happy to take gif requests so let me know.

Seeing how the highest and lowest-earners spend their money will make you think differently about 'rich' vs 'poor'
Vanni Bassetti / Stringer / Getty Images
Americans spend the bulk of their money in three areas: housing, transportation, and food.
Low-income Americans spend a significantly larger proportion of their money on housing.
High-income Americans spend a much higher proportion on insurance and retirement expenses.
On average, Americans spend the bulk of their money in three areas: housing, transportation, and food.
But the picture looks a bit different if you compare the country's lowest earners with the highest. While household spending is similar in some areas, low-income Americans spend a significantly larger proportion of their money on housing, while high-income Americans spend a much higher proportion on insurance and retirement expenses.
Why the discrepancies in these areas? It's not simply a matter of rich versus poor. The type of people that comprise these categories also plays a key role.
Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Business Insider analyzed the expenditures of the highest-earning 20% of households in the country, which on average make $177,851 annually before taxes, and the lowest-earning 20% of households, which on average pull in $10,916 annually before taxes.
Here's how household spending on particular categories compares as a percent of overall spending:
Andy Kiersz/Business Insider
Proportionally, most categories are pretty close, aside from the aforementioned exceptions.
For housing, the low-income cohort tends to rent more — 62% rent and 38% own a home, compared with the 13% who rent and 87% who own among the high-income cohort. The BLS' housing category includes an array of expenses (housekeeping, daycare, furniture, cell phone and internet plans), but the bulk of the money goes toward paying rent or costs related to owning a home, such as the monthly mortgage and property taxes.
How spending compares, dollar to dollar
We'll get to the personal insurance and pensions category in a bit.
But first, let's look at how spending compares in terms of actual dollars. Households in upper 20% spend $110,508 on average annually, while the bottom 20% spend $24,470.
Here's the breakdown by category:
Andy Kiersz/Business Insider
Not surprisingly, the top-earning households outspend the bottom-earning households in every category. Here's a look at the categories with the largest discrepancies:
Andy Kiersz/Business Insider
The two largest gaps are in personal insurance and pensions and alcohol — each of which could use some further explanation. ("Cash contributions," which comes in third, is primarily donations to charities and religious organizations.)
Let's start with alcohol, which isn't an obvious pick as the No. 2 area where the high earners outspend the low earners. It turns out, the high-income group spends a lot more on wine: 40% of their overall alcohol expenditure vs. 22% for the low-income group. The low-income bracket has a taste for pints, pilsners, and IPAs instead — 50% of its alcohol spending goes toward beer.
Cheap wine exists — don't forget our good friends Carlo Rossi and Franzia — but you can spend a lot more on fancy bottles of wine than you can on fancy craft brews.
Size (of household) matters
Now, let's revisit "personal insurance and pensions." More cash flow allows you to spend more on preparing for unexpected disasters — i.e. insurance — and bolstering your retirement fund. But 30 times more? Note that this doesn't even include costs for health insurance, which is covered under the healthcare category.
Why is this an outlier? For starters, household-to-household data skew some of the dollar-to-dollar comparisons, because the higher-earning homes have more people — 3.1 on average compared to 1.7 for low-income households. More families with children for the former, and more couples and people living alone in the latter.
Here's how the spending looks when you break each category down into a per-person comparison:
Andy Kiersz/Business Insider
Andy Kiersz/Business Insider
Some large discrepancies still, but not quite so glaring when you account for the size of the household. "Personal insurance and pensions" is still a staggering 16 times higher though. That's five times the gap of the next-largest discrepancy.
What's going on here? First, let's establish what pensions and insurance actually means. This category includes various forms of non-healthcare insurance, such as life insurance, as well as Social Security payments and contributions to retirement plans, such as pensions, IRAs, and other personal retirement accounts.
Social Security accounts for the lion's share of this category — 67%, or $11,879 of the $17,699 for the high-income households. After that, deductions for private pensions and non-payroll deposits to retirement plans account for a combined 26%, or $4,667.
So, high-earning households spend significantly more of their income on Social Security — which is automatically deducted from all earned income for individuals at a rate of 6.2% — and payments into retirement plans. Only part of the reason the discrepancy here is so high is the disparity in earnings.
Why low-income ≠ poor
The low-income group isn't simply "poor" people, though their expenditures are indeed much lower than the high-income group. A large segment, nearly 25%, are age 65 or older — retirement age. These people are no longer paying into Social Security and retirement plans; they're drawing from them. They may even be wealthy; 27% of households in the low-income bracket own a home sans mortgage.
Only 6.5% of the people in the highest-income group are 65 and older.
A significant portion of the low-earning households is also comprised of college students, and though they aren't earning much money themselves yet, it would be odd to label them as "poor." They've got all of their earning potential ahead of them (even if they are saddled with gobs of student loan debt).
All told, 46% of the lowest income group are either college students or retirees, according to Veri Crain, an economist with the BLS. That's just one reason it's difficult to draw conclusions on about the rich versus the poor, she said.
"It makes sense that some wealthy retirees and those who have not yet entered their peak earning years land [in the lowest-income bracket] temporarily," she told Business Insider. "I also found households in the highest-income bracket that when you examined their other circumstances it would be difficult to think of them as high income or 'rich.'"
For example, Crain said, take a household in the highest-income group with multiple people working jobs, several children to support, no assets, and live in an area with a high cost of living. They might not feel very wealthy.
High-income and low-income households spend differently, but money only tells part of the story.

Planning For The Future With A High Paying Physical Job
There's a high demand for physical jobs worldwide, and many of these jobs can pay exceptionally well. Think of jobs like oil rig worker, underwater welder/construction, working in war zones as a contractor, and more. These jobs can be incredibly demanding, and they aren't for the feint of heart. But if you're willing to work hard, and put in the sweat equity, the financial payoff can be rewarding.
But there is a big downside - too many people in these jobs don't plan for the future. While the money is great, it typically doesn't last. Either you can't do the job anymore, or the jobs in that field dry up.
So, what can you do? Should you avoid the work?
If you want to take on a physically demanding job because of the pay - more power to you! But please make sure you plan ahead and understand what you're getting into. Especially avoid the de-railers we discuss further on.
Let's break it down on how you can prepare.
Quick Navigation
Understanding The Physical Job Dynamic
What Kind Of Pay Are We Talking About Here?
The Big De-railer: Keeping Up With The Joneses
How Can You Plan For The Future?
Final Thoughts
Understanding The Physical Job Dynamic
Physical jobs are in demand because they are hard work. And they pay really well because they are hard work (and likely dangerous). In many cases, these jobs are not in desirable areas as well (remote areas, war zones, underwater/at sea, in shady areas of town).
As a result of all these factors, the average length of time people work in these types of jobs is just 4 years. That's average!
That means, you can expect to earn a high wage, but likely not for very long. And it can vary greatly by industry. However, most tenures hover around that four year mark.
Oil and Gas Workers: 4.6 Years
Construction Workers: 4 Years
Farming, Fishing, Forestry Workers: 4.1 Years
You can read the full breakdown of tenure from this BLS report.
What Kind Of Pay Are We Talking About Here?
So, what kind of pay makes this type of work worthwhile? It can really vary greatly, but here's some ideas:
Oil and Gas Rig Workers: $100,000/yr (and they typically work 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off, so 50% of the year)
Alaskan Fisherman: $15,000/mo (they can earn $45,000 for the 3 month crab season)
Commercial Diver: $93,000/yr (also typically work one month on, one month off)
Military Warzone Contractors: $150,000/yr
As you can see, these jobs all pay much higher than the median U.S. income of $59,000. And given that most of these jobs cater to younger, single adults, it can be a huge windfall to earn this in a short period of time.
This can definitely put you in an above-average net worth as a millennial.
The Big De-railer: Keeping Up With The Joneses
However, all of these jobs come with a big downside. Sadly, too many people in these industries spend all their money quickly. They buy fancy cars, go out and party, and live life extremely when they aren't working (which can be 50% of the time).
It's not uncommon to see people in these jobs broke again when they get back to work. And they start a cycle of needing the high pay to support a frivolous lifestyle outside of work (which also doesn't help their health).
As you think about these career choices, you need to also think about your mental fortitude to avoid these surroundings. When all your work friends are buying cars, drinking, and even doing drugs, can you step away and not get involved?
When friends and family hear about your job, see your money, will you be able to say no to handouts and gifts?
And will you be able to avoid your own lifestyle inflation that could sneak up on you just because...
These are all things you need to think about if you take a career in any of these fields.
How Can You Plan For The Future?
So, what can you do to plan for the future if you're going to take one of these high paying jobs? It's actually not hard, but it is a mental change - and that can be challenging.
1. Save, Save, Save
The biggest thing you can do is save money - and save a lot of it. The great thing about most of these jobs and industries is that you cost of living is taken care of while you're at work. Your food, lodging, and more is paid for by your employer. So, not only do you earn a high salary, but you should have minimal expenses while working.
You should look at saving 50-75% of your pay while working, if not more. And you should save it automatically out of each paycheck, and into an account that's hard to get to.
For example, you can open an savings account at an online bank, and automatically have 75% of your paycheck deposited to it. You can put the other 25% into your checking account.
Check out these options to get started:
2. Eliminate Your Housing
If you're working in a field where your employer will cover your housing while you work, see what you can do to minimize or eliminate your housing while you're off work.
For example, could you stay with your parents, or rent a room from a friend for really cheap?
For most people, housing is their biggest monthly expense. Given that you might go months without needing housing, why pay for something you don't need?
Look at options to minimize or eliminate this expense to save more money for the future.
3. Take Advantage Of Your Employer's 401k Plan
If you employer offers a 401k (which most do), take advantage to the max. I'm not talking about simply contributing up to your employer's match - I'm talking about maxing out your contribution.
You can contribute $18,000 in 2017, and $18,500 in 2018 - shoot for that number. You can be really rich if you always max your 401k contributions.
By contributing a lot to your 401k, not only are you saving for the future, but you can lower your tax bill as well!
4. Be Careful About Your "Friends"
As we mentioned above, you need to be careful about who you spend time with. Not only are there are lot of people who blow their money very quickly, but there are others who will hit you up for your money.
I'm not here to tell you to leave all your friends, ignore all your work people, and be a hermit, but honestly, I've seen it too many times where even the best intentioned people get caught up in the mix.
I strongly advise that you don't hang out with work people outside of work, and keep a low profile when you're earning good money.
5. Plan Your Exit
Finally, you need to plan your exit on your own terms, and be prepared if something does happen. Sadly, the reason you're getting paid so much for these jobs is because they are dangerous. You could die, but it's more likely you could simply be injured and can't work.
Or, if you do it for long enough, you might simply get too old to do the job.
So, plan your exit on your terms.
Make sure you have life insurance to protect your family (check out the comparison here), disability insurance if you get injured, and a savings plan if you simply can't work and need to change careers.
You should also consider what your next job is going to be? Let's say you simply can't do the job anymore - what work are you going to do until retirement?
Don't leave these things up to chance - really think about it up front so you can have a smooth transition later.
Final Thoughts
Getting a high paying physical job can be lucrative, but it comes with risks - not just death and disability. Too many people take these jobs, earn great money, and still end up broke.
If you're going to take the risk, you need to take the steps necessary to protect your reward. It's possible to use these jobs to make huge progress on your life goals (such as paying off debt, saving for retirement, buying a house, etc).
Just make sure that you're smart about the choices you make, and plan accordingly.

The “Retail Apocalypse” Is Here
This post The “Retail Apocalypse” Is Here appeared first on Daily Reckoning.
[Urgent Note: The nation’s future hangs in the balance as Trump approaches his first 100 days. That’s why I’m on a mission to send my new book TRUMPED! A Nation on the Brink of Ruin… and How to Bring It Back to every American who responds, absolutely free. Click here for more details.]
The strongest piece of proof that the “Retail Apocalypse” could be just days away came on Friday.
The Commerce Department reported that first quarter GDP growth came in at just 0.7%. The report also revealed the slowest first quarter for household spending since 2009.
Some economists call that “stall speed.” After 94 months of the weakest recovery in modern history, there is no other way to describe it.
Real GDP has grown at about a 1.25% annualized rate since the prior peak in Q4 2007 — hardly one-third of the historic trend rate of 3.4%.
I generally think short-term GDP and other numbers from the Washington statistical mills are random noise. But this time there is plenty of “incoming data” from the commercial sphere that can’t be dismissed.
I refer mainly to what I call “old reliable.” I’m referring to the tax receipts coming into Uncle Sam’s farebox at the IRS. None of America’s 20 million business tax filers send in withholding taxes for phantom seasonally adjusted payroll slots. Nor do they report estimated payments for profits they do not expect to make.
So when the 12-month moving average of Federal receipts dropped into negative territory for the fourth month running in March, it was another big warning flag. Historically, this has not happened outside of recession.
Even the cheapest financing in modern history can’t apparently keep the vastly overbuilt commercial real estate sector humming indefinitely. After a huge, easy money rebound from the 2008-2009 crash, both commercial loan advances and property sales volumes are now rolling over.
Needless to say, at the heart of the breakdown in the $3 trillion commercial loan market is the ongoing retail Armageddon.
It shows no signs of abating and the recent chapter 11 filing by Payless means that upwards of 3,500 stores will close in early 2017 alone.
Even the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) seems to be getting the word about the horrific condition of the malls. During the last few months, it has reported a 60,000 decline in the seasonally maladjusted job count. And a 758,000 drop in the actual count since the December holiday peak.
By the way, that compares to only a 644,000 drop over December-March during the prior year.
Even the Wall Street propaganda machine admits:
“… retailers continue to struggle and dead malls pile up in characterless suburbs across America.”
The fact is, other than easy credit fueled auto sales, which are now also rolling over, and Amazon sales, the American consumer has been quasi-comatose for nearly three years.
Reported sales at general merchandise stores in February were no higher than they were some 30 months ago in August 2014 — and I do mean “nominal” sales. Since the Consumer Price Index (CPI) is up 2.8% during the last year alone, inflation adjusted sales are actually already well into recession territory.
More importantly, the plunge in department store sales — which comprise the anchor and driver of 70% of mall traffic — have not abated in the slightest. As of the most recent reading, the monthly sales rate was down 30% from the pre-crisis peak.
Again, that’s in nominal dollars. In real terms, department store sales have fallen more than 50% since the early years of this century.
Moreover, what is happening is not merely cyclical in the traditional sense. Debt-encumbered American consumers are terminal. They are dropping, not shopping, because this entire so-called recovery has been wasted. That is, consumers can’t spend energetically because there has been no significant deleveraging since the 2008 crisis.
That in turn means the Keynesian assumption of Washington’s economic policy has again been refuted. That is the belief that consumer spending is the engine of prosperity. In fact, notwithstanding a 5X gain in the Fed’s balance sheet — from $900 billion on the eve of the Lehman meltdown to $4.5 trillion today — our Keynesian central bankers simply could not cause consumers to borrow and spend their way to prosperity.
They are impaled on Peak Debt.
The only significant retail spending growth since the crisis has occurred among the top 20% of households. But history proves beyond a shadow of doubt that when the stock market collapses, the credit cards go back into the wallet.
In fact, there is some pretty stunning evidence that this is already happening — the tail end of the Trump-O-Mania rally notwithstanding. The best data on what consumers are actually doing is provided not by the government statistical mills, but by Bank of America from its massive base of credit and debit cards.
In February, sales at department stores plunged 15% versus the prior year. That’s the largest decline ever recorded.
In a word, the retail mall sector is facing harsh headwinds and the worst of both worlds. That is, flagging demand and immense over-capacity.
It now appears that nearly 150 million of retail square footage could close during 2017 — an all-time record. So in a desperate effort to cope, retailers everywhere are slashing prices, increasing merchandising and promotion expenses in an attempt to fill empty stores with service and entertainment venues.
Call it a massive collision of Amazon/e-commerce with the nation’s hopelessly overbuilt brick and mortar retail infrastructure. But whatever you call it, it doesn’t add-up to “growth.”
To the contrary, it amounts to the grim reaper of economic law finally catching up with the vast malinvestment and waste generated by the Fed’s Bubble Finance regime of the last three decades.
There is far more evidence of a flagging economy where this came from.
Consider, for the last twelve month (LTM) period ending in September 2013, reported S&P 500 profits posted at $94.37 per share. Meanwhile, during the now completed LTM period ending in December 2016 they posted at $94.55 per share.
That’s right. Not even two dimes of gain during the last 40-plus months!
We not only have an everything bubble and a president who can apparently believe anything on any given day. We also have a financial market giving the notion of a casino an altogether new definition.
Indeed, I think the Donald is about to get Obama’d.
That is to say, if you like his Reflation Bubble, you most assuredly can’t keep it.
I don’t think you could wish for a more attractive exit ramp. And with Trump’s “100 Days” marker now safely behind us, this might well be the last call.
Regards,
David Stockman for The Daily Reckoning
