Podcast Jam!
Tumblr media
The PBC’s 2024 Podcast Jam is a collaborative event running from early February to May for anyone interested in creating an audio drama, both prior creators and newcomers to podcasting. Inspired by game jam events, teams of writers, voice actors, editors and artists will collaborate to create the pilot episode of a fiction podcast from start to finish, with the last weekend of the event dedicated solely to recording and editing of the episodes.
We know that, while the barrier of entry for podcasting is low, it can still be intimidating to jump into a show alone without any experience in the field. Thus, we hope this event will encourage new folks to try their hand at creating in a relatively low-stress, community-based environment, alongside giving current podcasters a fun change of pace from their ongoing shows. Though only a pilot will be created for the jam, participants are welcome and encouraged to continue their show beyond the event if so desired (we would love to have some new shows to keep up with!)
Event Schedule:
Sign-ups: February 5th - March 23rd
Team Submission Form Deadline: March 30th
Team Announcements: April 6th
Project Withdraw Date: April 20th
Jam Weekend: May 3rd - May 6th
Episode Submission: May 6th
Public Episode Release: May 25th
Jam Closing Ceremony: June 1st
To join the event, please fill out the Participant Sign-Up here. The jam will be hosted through the Podcast Book Club Discord - if you are not already a member, you can join the server here. For existing members, be sure to grab the Jam Participant role from the role selection channel to gain access to the PodJam chats! Additionally, we've set up a sideblog, @podcastjam, that you can follow to keep up with the event here on Tumblr!

would the dog royal families be like pugs because of all the inbreeding? would love to see your take on a dog form of the Hapsburgs lol
Probably nowhere near as extreme as modern pugs and other hyper exaggerated breeds today, but to some degree certainly.

So lemme tell you a secret
Most people you meet in a day are at least a little conflict averse. Most people do not want to make a scene
People who know this and are not averse to making a scene can become fucking unstoppable, and many of them use this power for evil
You can stop them in their goddamn tracks about 55% of the time by doing your best impression of someone who is not conflict averse
If someone comes up to you and you have any feeling they wanna give you a bad time, do not greet them quietly
Greet them loudly, as loudly as they greet you if not a little louder
This tells them they can’t make you back down or give in on the threat of drawing attention; a good chunk of the time, they will not want attention themselves if you’re the one drawing it
You don’t need to be confrontational or aggressive; just turn, greet them as normal, and up the volume just enough to show you’re not hiding or scared of loud noises
(This does not need to be true so long as you fake it well)
Note: this is not a guarantee, but honestly if they were gonna give you a hard time and draw attention they were probably gonna do that anyway
Stay cool, stay polite, and don’t let them intimidate you into whispering to avoid creating a scene. If they wanna make a scene, let them play the villain

Hi folks! It seems like people are discovering that there are people online who write some WEIRD! 👎 stuff for Nevermoor. Some tips and tricks for dealing with that:
Don't engage. Don't read the fics. Don't even comment to say how much you hate it.
Don't spread it around. It's gross as hell, I know! But being like "ew, guys, I found this gross fic" just means you're causing more people to seek out said gross fic, and that's just not great. If you don't want to see it, no one else wants to either.
If you can: block, mute, or filter. I don't really use any fanfic sites to know if these functionalities exist, but I'm sure people online have found ways. Edit: here's a way to do it on Ao3.
TL;DR: Ignore, Ignore, Ignore. 👍
(PS: Same thing goes for when people send weird inappropriate anon messages. Just delete them from your inbox and don't subject others to them.)
This is unfortunately something that's been present for years in the fandom, on both Ao3 and Wattpad. This is also why I essentially don't read Nevermoor fics unless they're for Mogtober, and even then I'm cautious. I have seen some weird stuff written about my favorite characters that I wish I could pluck from my brain and set on fire, or worse! But when I stumble across that stuff, I just quickly close the tab and pivot to something else to get my mind off of it.
We should not entertain these types of people in a fandom full of minors about a middle grade series, so: just don't engage with them, ignore them, filter them out, and maybe even drown them out with some fics of your own.

Trans People are an oppressed group of people who are getting legislated "out of existence". They are being legislated out of sports. They are being legislated out of bathrooms. There is legislation denying them gender affirming care. They are still being discriminated against for employment. They are still being discriminated against for housing. The Rightwing and Reactionaries want to control how Trans People dress and present (what do you think the Drag Bans were about). So why are we still having conversations that Trans People do not exist. If they do not exist, why is the Rightwing so viciously cracking down on them? We have seen Trans People of every race, ethnicity, sex, etc. These people exist. And they are in danger. The Rightwing is going on a full war to erase/eradicate Trans People. The truth is Trans People will always exist (just like Gay People will always exist), but they are being actively oppressed and harmed. This wave of anti-trans legislation and anti-trans rhetoric will lead to suppression of their identity ("being closeted"), will lead to Trans People committing Suicide, will lead to Trans People & Allies being imprisoned, and will lead to Hate Crimes. Whether Anarchist, Communist, Socialist, Social Democrat, Moderates, Liberals, etc. You need to be advocating for and protecting Trans People.

I started to write this as a reply to @vex-verlain but realized it should be it's own post.
To be clear, this is about @end-otw-racism and why I support this movement (even if I don't agree with all their proposals).
I am profoundly anti-censorship. It has been one of my biggest personal issues my entire adult life. I will absolutely defend the speech rights even of people I think are utterly reprehensible, even the rights of people who want me and my family dead. I think their speech has a right to exist, full stop.
But.
Being anti-censorship in no way means being anti-moderation. I often see people who are pro-ship, anti-anti, or "too old to use a name for telling yall you're clowning" say that AO3 is supposed to be a safe space for WRITERS, not READERS, and that to me is one of the big ways that the current harassment and moderation policies are badly failing writers of color. There's no way to 100% protect all writers, period, on AO3, and to me it seems like a no-brainer that if the goal is "protect all speech, avoid all censorship, minimize harm to real people," the only way to accomplish all those goals it to have a really robust, well-moderated system that prioritizes reducing harassment - ALL harassment - without looking the other way on certain topics just because they're harder and thornier to sort through. A way to section the groups that are oil and water away from each other, through blocking, powerful filters, comment options, etc (some strategies we do have now, btw! They HAVE been adding functionality in this direction, but it's clearly not enough.)
Currently, protecting people who write bigoted shit is causing active harm to fans of color. We see the impacts of this harm constantly; I personally have seen many, many Chinese and Chinese diaspora fans driven out of white danmei fandom circles for all sorts of reasons, and if yall are in fandoms that often have bipoc in them I'm sure you've seen the same (and if you are in a fandom that doesn't have many bipoc it might be wise to take a moment and consider why it doesn't.)
I just really want more people to take a step back and ask themselves why they think an anti-censorship position necessitates an anti-moderation stance, and also why they think being pro-moderation is the same as being pro-censorship.
I defend the rights of bigoted shit to exist.
What I don't defend is the right of the people who create that stuff to weaponize it against vulnerable people.
Regarding AO3, I personally support a solution that involves some way of sectioning off the bigoted shit. I'm not sure exactly how that would work but I think some kind of major archive warning is a solid start. Also maybe a way of flagging authors who are frequent offenders. And to be clear...it's not my job or responsibility to know exactly how to accomplish this. I'm no expert. That's why I'm supporting a movement that explicitly says AO3/OTW SHOULD HIRE AN EXPERT. And I know it would be expensive...and I know many, many of us would donate to a funds drive to raise the money to cover that expense.
I've seen too many friends get profoundly hurt, and I'm so tired of (overwhelmingly white) fandom circles pearl clutching over this not being an issue, that the real problem is that this will lead to censorship of (checks notes) Nazi shit, spitefic, and the other dregs of fanfiction (which, again, has a right to exist! But God why are so many of y'all favoring IT over ALL THE FIC THAT WILL NOW NEVER EXIST BECAUSE BIPOC GET BULLIED OUT OF WRITING IT.)
It's clearly an issue.
And we have to speak up and demand better or it will continue to be an issue.
Please, please listen to the bipoc who've managed to not be driven out of fandom and understand that *things need to change,* which means, for us white folks:
1. A lot of listening to the people who've been harmed
2. Using our voices to amplify theirs
3. Standing up to bigotry we see in our fandom communities
4. Shutting up when they ask us to shut up
5. Checking our own behavior and doing our best not to be part of the problem, and, if and when we go awry, owning it with maturity and apologizing and doing our best to make amends and not repeat our mistakes
...and probably more but those are the first things to come to mind.
Please stop siding with people who've decided they are entitled to spew vile shit, stop prioritizing their writerly protection over the safety of equally valid writers who also deserve protection and are being targeted and hurt. All you do by siding with the assholes is amplify their voices while silencing bipoc and create a space that protects bigots. Is that REALLY the hill you want to fight on?
None of us know it all. We can all learn to do better. I'm personally here to learn, and listen, and improve.
And I'm here to shout from the rooftops that we can be anti-censorship and pro-moderation.
I am, and you should be too.

Hey captain! What’s your take on fellswap and swapfell if you have one?
i. don't know actually?
what is the distinction between swapfell and fellswap? why is one of them purple but only sometimes and also red but only sometimes? where did the purple come from???
i know i've seen both before. it seems like they get redesigned a lot, i don't know if i've seen a canon (fanon-canon? canon-fanon?) design for either, and i'm not totally sure what makes them different.
i mean the art. slaps? it looks like it slaps. i don't have a clue what's going on here, but i'll act like i do!
(ig that means i don't really have a take. i like the underfell au enough so seeing a variety of swapped version of it is chill, i kind of get the appeal. glad people are having fun.)

morningggg, actually speaking of discord servers, mine is actually up and running now. It's a little barebones but things will be added as needed ^_^ so...
Tumblr media
welcome to THE SHIMMERING WOOD
an 18+ only discord server mainly aimed at mythkin and otherkin! For adult alterhumans of these calibers to discuss and share experiences in a comfortable space just for us!
I often found that while I enjoy interacting with younger alterhumans on all ages servers it never felt like i could truly connect or be myself. I think a lot of adult non humans have quite different experiences going through life and I've been craving a place just for us to chat and share our stories ^_^ and maybe talk about topics that wouldn't usually be allowed in all ages servers. If this seems interesting to you please give this server a look! It's still in its infancy and it may take me a while to get through all the verifications if theres a big influx of users but I hope to keep this community quite small and cozy. Thanks!
If you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask in the replies or DM me ^_^

I’ve recently rewatched a movie called The Ritual(2017) based on the book writed by Adam Nevill and I must say that I truly loved this movie!
The acting, the settings, the feeling of being trapped in those woods without having a way out. I really loved all the details and I love how from a movie of 4 guys going on a hiking trip in the mountains after one of their best friends died, went to a true real life nightmare.
I first watched this movie when I was like in 7th grade and I was a scared lil kid back then and when I watched it for the first time I shit myself from how scared I was and I coudn’t watch more of the movie, I’ve watch only like half of it. And than this year I’ve decided to give it a try and man I really fell in love with it. I even rewached it three times already.
I like how there aren’t many jumpscares and just a little bit of gore but I was really interested in the nordic mythology and for me personally this movie is very important.
I really loved the 4 main characters that ones being Luke(the main protagonist), Hutch, Dom and Phil. They are just some good ol’ university friends trying to connect again after so much time by going on a trip in the Sweden mountains to honour their dead friend Rob who was killed in a store by some robers.
Luke as I said is the main protagonist and he is the one who the movie is happening around him. He was the one who was with Rob when he was killed and he didn’t take action to save him or help him and now himself and the rest of the group blames him for what happend to Rob.
Everyone blames him exept for Hutch(the second main character) who is the leader of the group and the most closest to Luke. He is the only one who don’t blames Luke and the only one who still considers Luke his friend.
Dom is like the crybaby drama queen of the group. He is always the one with the big mounth and complains alot. He is like that one annoying friend but you still care about him beacuse you know him how he is. Dom is the one who blames Luke for what happend and that grows the tension between the group.
Phill is the character with the less characterization not having a clear personality and most of the movie being in the background. Not a big fan of this character beacuse of the lack of personality he has and beacuse he had so much potential to have a good role in the group instead of just being there.
I won’t get too much into the details since I want to create separate posts for my review or discussing about this movie since this might be my new hyperfixation for a while 🤷‍♂️
I’ll just talk more about it and maybe starting doing some fanarts of it since I wanted to do that since my first rewatched of it.
I wanna buy the book as well to read it beacuse now I wanna consume as much as I can from this series, movies, books, youtube videos, theories, fanarts, fanfics ANYTHING.
I know not many people are interested in this movie anymore but I’ll still create these posts maybe, maybe someone who still likes this movie in 2023 will discover my blog :,)
So that’s it for now, I’ll continue posting stuff about the ritual for a while since I have this hyperfixation for two weeks already and it doesn’t wanna stop.
For now have these gifs I created from the movie they might contain spoilers. Sorry for the bad quitality I’ve made them on my phone 💀
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have more gifs which I wanna post but Tumblr doesn’t allow me to have more than 10 in one post so for the rest of the gifs I’ll just post will be these ones I have of my most favorite character from this movie
✨HUTCH✨

I'm just gonna post this piece from one of Pop Culture Detective's videos, The Ethics of Looking And The "Harmless" Peeping Tom. For context, he analyzes the trope where (usually) a male character peeks on a female character undressing or changing clothes, without her consent.
Wanted to highlight a few parts:
(...) Up until this point, we’ve been discussing the perspective of characters on-scene but there’s another critical perspective we haven’t yet considered. And that is the perspective of the camera. Let’s return for a moment to that “normal” boys bedroom from earlier. Although, it’s not a “normal” bedroom, is it? It’s really a movie set. And that’s not really a “normal” boy either, that’s an actor working from a script. In fact, everything we see here is a deliberate choice by the filmmakers. The woman is being put on display by the director who is careful to position her body so the protagonist can get a good look. But the shots are also designed so the audience gets to peek along with him. This then makes the viewer complicit. We are made to vicariously participate in the act of non-consensual looking. This is true, incidentally, even when the character doing the peeping is clearly meant to be a creep.
