Flux core VS MIG welding
When welding the materials to be joined become molten as they mix together and become one piece in oxygen nitrogen and other things that we breathe get mixed into that molten metal air bubbles get trapped and can not escape before the puddle cools.
The result is a poor and brittle weld. Flux core welding uses the same concept as stick welding. It burns a flux as part of the welding process.
The difference is the flux is on the inside of the continuous hollow wire electrode just like stick welding. There is a fair amount of smoke spatter and slag. And it requires a great deal of post well clean nose.
Flux core vs MIG welding machines
MIG welding is a much cleaner welding process there is no flux burn during the welding process instead the welding area and molten metal are covered with an inert shielding gas that flows out of the end of mig torch. This inert gas pushes the atmosphere away from the molten metal and protects the welding puddle as it cools. It requires little any post weld clean up.
Advantage
Advantage of mig welding over flux core welding , minimal post weld cleanup less smoke you can weld thinner material without burn through. It's easier to see the weld puddle lower cost welding wire.
Disadvantage
Disadvantage of mig welding over flux core welding ; Limited to indoor applications due to wind blowing the inert gas away higher equipment cost. Gas bottles and regulators are less portable due to the gas bottles being more complex in initial setup.
Final thought
In conclusion it can be stated that both flux core and MIG welding are essential for welding material though one over other has some specific advantages and disadvantages. When welding two materials to join, both have an important role to molten as they mix together tightly.

Essential Tools for DIY Steel Projects
Are you a DIY enthusiast who loves to take on steel projects? Well, you're in luck because I'm about to share with you the essential tools you need to make your DIY steel projects a breeze! Whether you're working on small-scale projects like a steel bookshelf or tackling larger ones like a steel gate, having the right tools is crucial to achieving professional-looking results. So, let's dive in and discover the must-have tools for your DIY steel projects.
Tumblr media
First and foremost, a welder is an absolute necessity for any DIY steel project. A good quality welder will allow you to join pieces of steel together, creating strong and durable connections. There are various types of welders available in the market, such as MIG, TIG, and stick welders, each with its own advantages. Depending on the complexity of your project and your welding skill level, choose a welder that suits your needs. With a welder in hand, you can confidently tackle any steel project that comes your way.
Next on our list is a grinder. This versatile tool is essential for shaping and smoothing metal edges, removing rust or paint, and cleaning up welds. A handheld angle grinder with various grit discs will be your best friend when it comes to grinding and polishing steel. It allows you to achieve clean cuts and smooth finishes, giving your steel projects a professional look. So, don't forget to add a grinder to your toolbox!
Another tool that every DIY steel project requires is a drill. Whether you're drilling holes for fasteners or attaching brackets to your steel structure, a drill is a must-have tool. Look for a drill with variable speed settings and multiple drill bits suitable for metal. Having this tool in your arsenal will make it a breeze to work with steel and ensure accurate and secure fastenings.
Next up is the trusty tape measure. This might seem like an obvious tool, but it's often overlooked. A good quality tape measure is crucial for accurate measurements when cutting steel or determining dimensions for your project. Make sure to invest in a durable tape measure with clear markings that won't fade over time. With precise measurements, you'll avoid costly mistakes and ensure your DIY steel projects fit perfectly.
Last but not least, safety equipment should never be neglected when working with steel. Safety glasses are vital for protecting your eyes from sparks, debris, and flying metal fragments. Additionally, wearing heat-resistant gloves will shield your hands from burns while handling hot pieces of metal or operating the welder. Don't forget to use ear protection when using power tools that generate loud noises. Remember, safety should always come first!
In conclusion, these essential tools will equip you with everything you need to tackle your DIY steel projects like a pro. From welders to grinders, drills to tape measures, and safety equipment, having these tools will make your projects easier and more enjoyable. So, gear up and get ready to turn your steel project dreams into reality!

Any tips for aluminum tig?
I have several!
The biggest and first is make sure you have a good TIG welder. I've been forced to use cheap, shitty ones and they just have the WORST arc flow for the AC setting. Just God awful. But, even if you have to make do with a shitty one, there are things you can do to help make it better.
Next I recommend using pure argon if you can for your shielding gas. 75% argon/25%co2 is fine, but if you're having a hard time, especially on thinner pieces (like blow through) I would also recommend turning your gas pressure DOWN. On thin stuff I would go as low as 12-15psi.
Now also for your torch, most employers will get the cheaper green pure tungsten rods, but I massively prefer the gold tipped 1.5% Lanthanated rods. It might depend on how you go about your arc, but I prefer the gold over the green. But you may have different results. My go to is usually 3/32nd width but I have personally had trouble with sizes above or below that.
Now, my instructor taught me to use the "truck stop" method for sharpening my tungsten. I sharpen it to a point holding it parallel with the grinder wheel, I then blunt off the tip about a 1/4 of the way up the angle I've done. I do a longer sharpening, so my blunt ends up about 1/4 of the starting thickness of my tungsten. I prefer blunting it because it makes the ball that forms at the end smaller in size, which is good for me.
Now for material, make sure you're using the type of aluminum that likes to be welded. There are some strains of Aluminum that are good for machining that makes them a mess to weld.
but probably greatest tip I can give is CLEAN YOUR ALUMINUM. get that oxidation off the surface and start with a nice, impurity free surface to get the arc scrubbing started off with. The longer you don't have to pour ambient heat into the piece while the AC scrubbing is ongoing the less of chance of blowout you have.
Now, if you're using filler rod, this is where I recommend bigger being better. Don't be afraid to throw rods in that puddle. I never used anything smaller then 1/8th because it seems like the metal will just disappear in that puddle.
And I think last but not least, if you have access to one, try getting handy on a aluminum mig spool gun. They really go a long way in helping teach you have aluminum behaves when you weld it. It's a lot more forgivable if you already know basic mig, and can even be a great way to help ease yourself into actual GMAW welding too.
I hope this helps anon, I have no clue how long ago you sent this but I hope you see it!
