Description: Along Midstate Road, Delaware a jet-black dog, as tall as a fence rail, has been seen running next to cars on stormy nights. Legend claims it’s the spirit of an outlaw, who came back as a Hellhound, while others claim it’s the ghost of a vengeful dog whose owner was murdered.

People’s Flag Wars: Round 1, Bracket 1

The Keystone Flag is a redesign of the Pennsylvania flag by Tara Stark (@thetarastark). This design has become very popular, as there is a sizable movement to make this flag the official flag of Pennsylvania. Its official website can be found here.

Here is some of what the website has to say about its symbolism: “This flag's design closely resembles a tricolor, because aside from the distinctive Keystone shape at the center (to represent Pennsylvania's identity as "the Keystone State"), those three colors alone can carry all of the symbolism from the traditional flag, and then some more.”

“Wherever possible, we display the Keystone Flag with green on the left and blue on the right (there is no "backwards" with flags that fly in the wind!) to make the symbolism easier to explain:”

“Remember that our design is derived from Pennsylvania's state seal and coat of arms, featured in the current flag. The meanings in this state seal carry over, maintaining the tradition of the flag: green for "wealth of human thought and action," gold for "rich natural resources," and blue for "state commerce being carried worldwide.””

“These colors may also be used to carry over the tradition of the state motto, "Virtue, Liberty, and Independence." While these words are in written form on the current flag, near impossible to see at a distance or when flying, the three colors wind up being sufficient - green for Virtue (aligns closely with human thought and action), gold for Liberty, and blue for Independence.”

“This last point allows us to tie our identity as a Commonwealth back to our identity as a US State: the Declaration of Independence was signed here in Pennsylvania. That is why the blue is darker, and why the hoist is on the sinister/blue side: to match the blue on the US flag, as does the background of our current flag. This also fulfills the symbolism of the Eagle on top of the escutcheon in the Coat of Arms on the original flag.”

“And a fun bonus: green, gold, and blue just so happens to create a (very) rough map of our west-to-east geography: green for our western hills and mountains, gold for rich farmland in much of the midstate, and blue for our eastern border along the Delaware river, home to many points that facilitate state commerce.”

I live midstates! We haven't got snow in ages! It's only a couple inches but it's that light blowy shit

okay I have many questions 😂 you live near the place where winters lived?? how did your grandparents know him?? did they know abt the letter?? what was in it?? 😁 because seriously what you described sounds exactly like something I'd do if I didn't live halfway across the world lol

oh goodness me. i used to live about 20 minutes from winters, but my grandma's family had a neighboring farm near his family's place. i remember as a kid they all used to have golf cart parades in the summer my grandparents took us to? i remember it being on the news when he passed away about the hershey theater and that tom hanks was in the midstate.

my first interaction with BoB/Dick Winters was in 10th grade study hall when my history teacher put on an episode. and i was HOOKED. they did not. that was in early may, and by july my dad took me to the memorial and cemetery and i was super discreet with the letter. but i recoil in horror thinking about it. like who gave this 15 year old that much courage?? certainly not me. she was absolutely unhinged. if you ever get the chance up this way, the hershey historical society has a replica of major winters's den and has the wheaties box with him on. i've spent hours in there.

at sixteen, my best friend at the time and i watched almost all the episodes together, we didnt watch ten? and we fell out and went our separate ways and i've been a part of the fandom long enough to see people come ans go. i met my now best friend through the fandom and im so thankful for her every day.

btw, i wish i could tell you what was in the letter, but i just remember writing it with a g2-07 purple pen (my pen of choice for teenage me).

i've learned a lot since then, my dad has passed on, but those memories i have with him are priceless. next week i'm going to europe to trace the steps of easy company with my best friend in the whole world, and 15-year old me would be pretty proud, i think.

oh, and 15 year old me used to write dick winters self-insert fanfiction, so yeah. peak cringe on my part.

edited to add: i was so obsessed with this man that i nearly went to the same college he went to just because he went there.

Penn Township – A man currently at Cumberland County Prison in connection with a rash of burglaries in the Midstate now faces new charges after a human brain was found at a home in Penn Township. On Thursday, Joshua Lee Long, 26, of Carlisle, was charged with misdemeanor abuse of a corpse and conspiracy to commit abuse of a corpse after a human brain was found in a Wal-Mart shopping bag under the porch of Robbie Lee Zoller, a home that Long was known to frequent, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Pennsylvania State Police. Police said a relative of Long’s found the brain and contacted him in prison to ask about it.
