Cryptid of the Day: Pumina

Description: The Pumina is a massive snake reported in the Kasai and Katanga regions of Dem Congo around Lake Upemba. Described as 38-46ft long, resembling a rock python, it was photographed in 1959 by a Belgian pilot. 

Cryptid of the Day: Lake Tanganyika Monster

Description: In 1893, a Mpala missionary claimed to have seen a sea serpent in Lake Tanganyika, Dem. Republic of Congo. It was seen again in 1907, described as tusked, and in 1928, described as saurian. Unidentifiable two claw tracks were found around the lake shores 

Cryptid of the Day: Migo

Description: French explorers of the Central African Republic in 1899-1899 gathered accounts of octopus like creatures called Migos. They were described as having the head of a woman, shape of a fish, and tentacles that can suck blood 

Cryptid of the Day: Egyptian Bears

Description: Bears are not known to have inhabited Egypt, yet according to physician Prospero Alpini, in 1736, he heard of a sheep-sized bear that lived in the region. It was described as white, easily tamed, and not as fierce as a regular bear. 

Cryptid of the Day: Fresno Nightcrawler

Description: It began with low-res security footage of a biped, torso-less creature walking across a yard in Fresno, California. The homeowner kept waking up by his dogs barking so he set up the camera to see what disturbed them. Since then the Nightcrawler has been seen all over the world

Cryptid of the Day: Waitoreke

Description: The only mammals native to New Zealand are bats, so when people claim to have seen an otter-like animal in South Island, it peaks zoological interests. The Waitoreke has been seen since the 18th century, with one of the most notable accounts coming from Captain James Cook.

Cryptid of the Day: El Lobisón

Description: In Guarani mythology, El Lobisón is a half man half canine similar to the werewolf, except it is the seventh child of a family that’s fated to become the beast. It is customary for the presidents of Argentina & Paraguay to be “godfather” of all seventh children.

Cryptid of the Day: Gianmarco Zagato’s Monster

Description: Gianmarco Zagato claimed to have seen a sea monster off the coast of Zante, Greece. Not much else is known about the sighting, though it’s important to note, Zagato has a history of making paranormal-baited videos for his YouTube channel

Cryptid of the Day: Blancaneaux Creature

Description: Naturalist Francois Blancaneaux claimed to have seen one of his guides killed by an unknown creature near El Cayo, Belize. He described it as an odd devil that left behind tracks that resembled a human hand but with claws. He followed them to a cave, where he lost the creature

Cryptid of the Day: Jacki Hartley’s Bat Monster

Description: London resident Jacki Hartley claimed to have seen a bat-winged monkey bird ever since she was four, starting in 1969, with her latest sighting in 2006. She said it had red eyes, a monkey face, but with a bird’s beak. She has only seen the creature late at night.  

Cryptid of the Day: Hawaiian Giant Octopus

Description: In 1928, Robert Aiken claimed to have seen a 40ft octopus at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Throughout the 20th century, more people would report giant octopuses across Hawaii, include one report that claimed it had a 30ft tentacle. The Giant Pacific Octopus can only grow to 30ft

Description: On November 10th, 1930, two men discovered a creature well preserved in ice off the coast of Glacier Island, Alaska. When news spread of the discovery, people came up with all sorts of theories on what it could be from a dinosaur to a woolly mammoth, to an undiscovered species.

Cryptid of the Day: Selma

Description: It all began in 1750, when a fisherman claimed to have been attacked by a “sea horse” out on Lake Seljord, Norway. Thus, the legend of Selma was born, though the monster’s popularity didn’t peak until the 20th century. Several expeditions have used sonar to find evidence of it

Cryptid of the Day: Mecheny 

Description: On August 16, 1987, Maya Bykova saw a large ape with white markings outside her remote hunting cabin. Bykova encountered the monster again one year later when she and a Mansi hunter watched one for 75 minutes. It is called Mecheny, which means “the Marked One”

Cryptid of the Day: Si-Te-Cah

Description: The Si-Te-Cah were thought to only exist in Northern Paiute oral history until a cave full of human remains was found in 1911. Despite this, miners who discovered the site only reported it a year later, having destroyed some of the artifacts, described as giant, red & hairy

Cryptid of the Day: Didi

Description: The Didi is an ape-like creature reported in Guyana, often associated with the Curupira, a creature from Tupi-Guarani myths. Some cryptozoologists think both creatures are actually misidentified giant sloths, or related to the Mapinguari. 

Cryptid of the Day: Kaiamunu

Description: According to Brian Irwin, since the 90s, people on the island of Ambungi, Papua New Guinea reported seeing a long-neck, reptile-like animal with huge frontal claws and a long tail. It is said to be able to swim between islands and is called the Kaiamunu.
