i’ve seen people commenting with the MHA388 leaks, specifically the panel with the todoroki family minus shouto, that the only way touya would’ve been happy and have his life turn out good was if shouto wasn’t born, and i feel like some people are forgetting the actual cause of the problems.

touya would’ve been happy and would’ve never became dabi if enji todoroki actually gave a shit about his kids, and treated them like kids when that’s what they were.

endeavor saw that touya had firepower greater than his, but nothing would come out of it because his body wasn’t suited for fire and instead of, i dunno, finding support items for him? and teaching him how to use it so it wouldn’t get out of control? he abandons him and tells him to give up. touya knew from such a young age that the only reason he was alive was so endeavor could produce a superior quirk, so to suddenly be told to give up on what he knows is his reason for existing? and then shouto was born, the child his father actually wanted (even though the reasons are beyond fucked up). touya wasn’t going to just give up on trying to be better than shouto, because that would mean that, to his father, touya was a failure. that he was useless. touya just wanted his father to just look at him again, like he used to.

touya deserves so much better, but none of this is shoutos fault. the only person who is to blame is Enji Todoroki.

so i’ve been thinking. it’s not 100% clear if it’s enji’s or touya’s vision at the end of the chapter because it’s endeavor who says the final line but the fact that shoto isn’t there and they all look like their present selves suggests that it could be what touya is seeing at the moment or wishes deep down rather than a what if moment/alternative future from enji’s mind. now this is just an interpretation before even reading the chapter properly but i’m thinking that the presence of the jacket also suggests it’s touya’s vision because it represents dabi’s identity which means more to touya than it does to enji and the others (not that they don’t care but yk to them he’s their touya meanwhile touya himself has ‘created’ dabi and has lived as dabi for years and it’s part of his life and identity) and the fact that enji is the one putting it on could represent touya wanting him to love and accept every part of him as he is.
