The time from Otheon to Japan is quite long. It doesn't deter Rody from communicating with Deku. Day and night, he looks forward to Deku's messages, sent to his shabby phone that sometimes doesn't work unless he slams it onto the counter. One time he'd done that at work, Stanleyk sends him a fierceful glare that he'd rightfully ignored.

Their conversations are either sent at close intervals or at extremely long ones. A result from an 8-hour difference, Rody supposes. Sometimes, he wishes Deku had stayed even just for another month after the final battle with that Humarise head honcho. Maybe he'd find out more about him than the measly days they spent together running away from the authorities.

No use crying over spilt milk. Deku is studying to be a hero (even though he's already a hero in Rody's eyes—and his siblings' as well) and Rody, well, he's trying to self-study aeronautics for beginners while working and taking care of his siblings. It's not the best situation but Rody wouldn't trade it for anything.

The dim light from his shitty phone illuminates his face. He shields it from his sleeping siblings, not wanting to wake them up, and types a message for Deku to see.

Today at 10:15PM

Can I call you tonight?

The phone had long since gone silent, but not for long. Dialing Deku's number, Rody puts the phone by his ear, shooing an overexcited Pino out of the way. When Deku picks up the phone, Rody is consumed by an electrifying feeling, making him shiver from head to toe. Deku's voice filtering out his phone's shitty speaker doesn't help.

"Hello? Rody?" the Japanese accent is still heavy on Deku's tongue even after nights of talking with Rody. It's endearing. He hopes it won't go away.

"Heya, hero," says Rody. "How's life out there saving people?"

Judging from Deku's excited giggle, Rody is in for another all-nighter. Reclining in their old sofa in an attempt to be comfortable, he listens to Deku ramble on and on until it's time for him to head out soon. Pino perches on his shoulder, listening to the voice coming from the speaker. He can tell that they are both enamored with the hero-in-training.

A softer smile spreads on his lips. Perhaps Rody should convince Deku to come back in Otheon someday.
