Fast Fashion to Slow Fashion :: a DIY guide to up-cycling and mending clothing on a budget.
Tumblr media
For those of us living on a small income, buying from sustainable fashion brands is often out of reach. I would like to point out that *buying new but ecological garments isn't the only way to cultivate a slow fashion wardrobe*. Here are a few options for transforming *upcycling* your clothing, thus making fast fashion into slow fashion:
Mend and repair :: patch hand-me-down sweaters, fix holes in leggins from target and other department stores. By giving items a longer life, and preventing unnecessary garbage, fast fashion items become slow fashion! Here are two tutorials I have written on how to mend a torn belt loop on jeans and patch leggings.
Up-cycle clothing that doesn't suit your style :: when preparing for a trip back home and wondering how to acquire some nicer clothing for the trip a friend of mine gifted me a big bag of clothes. Almost all of them were items that we could call "fast fashion" and nearly all also had stains or rips that needed mending. By fixing and adapting these items and then going on to wear them for several years longer, I am keeping them out of the cycle of buy then trash.
Tailor items that don't fit you :: Taking in clothing is quite simple and there are lots of tutorials on how to hem pants and skirts or take in a size or two. I recently made a tutorial on how to take out a skirt, or make a skirt bigger by adding panels.
Tumblr media
At some point, we must face the fact that a t-shirt is totally worn out and cannot be used for clothing any longer. In such cases here are a couple of crafts to utilize the fabric and other items from the scrap pile:
Create a Quilt :: if you find yourself with a pile of beautiful & memory-filled scraps -- transform them into a quilt as I have done in this post.
Make Twine :: Longer scraps of fabric, especially those from stretch materials like leggings or jersey cotton t-shirts can be made into a thing rope also known as fabric twine. I wrote a tutorial on how to make twine out of fabric scraps.

I wanted to share one of my AUs after my last post (๑•﹏•)
"Mending Shadows"
It follows a journey of broken trust and healing between Dream and Nightmare
I don't know what else to say right now, but if you're curious you can ask me in the comments or inbox (◍•ᴗ•◍)
(P.S. Important thing to know, Dream is an uncle and Nightmare is a dad º▽º)
Also just for fun I'll be adding characters to an alignment chart
Tumblr media
It will be updated overtime (if I remember)

Incredibly fucking insane how well the Wit fits as an allegory for queerness. Burrich's harsh rejection of Fitz and Swift for it, the simultaneous automatic learned reaction of disgust and the fear at learning he has a child who could face real danger because of it, the multitude of ways he misunderstands and refuses to understand the way the Wit functions in order to keep his views. His "I've tried many years to purge it from myself. Still, it lingers. But if it cannot be purged from a man, he can nevertheless be taught to refuse it. Just as a man must learn to refuse all other sorts of vices." The damage to his relationship with first Fitz because of his inability to accept thar Fitz not only has but continues to use the Wit. The way Fitz eventually embraces his Wit but is always careful, so so careful and so worried for people like Swift, who flaunt it. Web's "there are other types of neglect and deprivation. To deny what unfolds in someone...to say to a child 'you must not be what you are.' That is wrong." It's just!! All over the fucking place!!!

December 14 - Pursuit of the Nightjar spoilers.
It was peaceful, she thought. Beautiful. Tegan wasn’t one for peaceful usually, always needing to do something with her hands, tap her feet, talk to fill up the silence. But here she was alone, drifting through those incomprehensibly huge expanses between stars and the blue tangles that had snared the Nightjar. She had the idle thought of maybe this was what it had been like to be Captain Goben, travelling for all those months in the darkness, but at least he had his books around him, his piano. All Tegan had was her spacesuit and her own head.
She’d lost sight of the ship long ago, even if she’d had the ability to twist and look back. The range on her radio had crackled out long before that. But she’d kept talking, never one to keep silent. Knowing Nyssa, she’d find such a close personal examination of these space- she didn’t know, space phenomena fascinating. So she tried, describing them with as much detail as she could. But that only went so far, as beautiful as the knots were. So she shut her mouth, and just listened for a while to the music, matching the swells and crests of the colours to the change. Funny, she thought space was meant to be silent, but something here was singing with such depth and such- holiness. It made her want to talk about it, about death and Adric and all the things they never talked about. It made her want to be quiet, but that would have been too… lonely. And it wasn’t as if there was anyone else to hear her, after all.
She hoped they didn’t hear her. Hoped whatever crackled out with distance had done so on their side too. Not because what she was saying was embarrassing or silly, the Doctor would say that never stopped her anyway, but because she didn’t want him to hear. To hear when her air ran out, the thin gasps she remembered from the Urbankan spaceship. It wouldn’t be fair to him. Nyssa would care, she knew, but she would also apply logic to the whole situation. People died, Tegan would merely do so earlier than they had expected. But the Doctor- she’d been on the ship plummeting towards earth, had seen the look of agony in his eyes as he was forced to leave Adric behind. She didn’t spare him much, but she would spare him experiencing another death of a friend if she could. Oh, she could rail and complain about how unfair it was, but really, she’d seen such things in their time together. Maybe that was why she was going to die, she’d used up all her life in this short and glorious burst.
Bloody hell, it was cold. She’d been cold even before being pulled from the ship, but it was numbing now, fine tremors running through her arms even as she clumsily tucked them around herself as much as possible in the bulky suit. She had abandoned her heels when putting the suit on, but could no longer feel the ache in her bare feet against the rough inner sole, the rasp in her throat from speaking. It would be so easy to close her eyes now, to let these last beauties pass unseen.
The radio in her helmet crackled.

Back in 2015 when Shawn Medes released the Stitches music video I started to realize something. You know towards the end when Shawn is like thoroughly beaten up and bruised and incredibly serious? Yea, that shit is hot. I don’t know what it is. I mean I used to think Shawn was decently attractive but not anything to drool over until that shot. we’re ignoring the fact that his acting was trash, the video was cringey af, and his running straight up makes me gag. I could genuinely make an entire YouTube video trashing on this music video but that’s irrelevant.
Anyways, I would say it actually probably should have originated from JB’s As Long As You Love Me mv back in 2012 but the special effects makeup to make him look beat up is so fucking bad it’s laughable and I also hated him then so, moving on he straight up looked like a ken doll that was dragged through the mud like why was there so much bronzer? also would the dad in the mv not have gotten charged with assault and battery like wtf?
But when I really noticed it was in 2017 when Spider-Man: Homecoming was released. The scene where Peter Parker is sitting on top of the roller coaster absolutely disheveled and bloody… it just does something to me. I mean the one where he’s getting out from under the fallen concrete has the same vibes but not the same effect so. But genuinely why is that scene so hot? He’s exhausted and serious and bloody and damnnn when I saw it in theaters I stopped breathing
Also, guilty pleasure is that one scene from Spider-Man: Far From Home right after he gets fucking destroyed by the train and he’s in hella pain and passes out. I feel so bad about it but fuck Tom Holland in that scene is so so fucking hot.
And my most recent recollection of this… kink? Idek what this would be considered but I’ll get back to that in a sec. The most recent turn on being the last fight scene from Spider-Man: No Way Home. The entire last fight scene when Peter is just absolutely pissed and murderous… speechless. The glares, the way he holds himself, the absolute POWER he shows. And then on top of a pissed off Tom Holland being sexy as fuck, he’s like bloody and fucked up and holy shit. It was genuinely too much for me to process. I’ve seen the movie three times and I genuinely don’t think I’ll ever get over how that scene makes me feel
But genuinely, what the fuck? Like I have no desire or lust to hurt anyone. Like that’s not hot to me. I don’t particularly want to be beaten up and definitely don’t want to be bleeding I mean a little choking maybe but. But I find guys that are slightly beaten and bloody and mad/serious so motherfucking sexy. Wtf is that?

a character obsessed with nightmares of the future, forms of fortune-telling, the uniting power of music, the deal with the devil always rumored for great musicians, to have touched grace and fell deeper down a self-made hell
to have regrets, an examination of repentance, deeds to atone that instead, become nothing more but howling curses at the world, the power of curses that are misinformation
higgs, a character made to be a victim of it and hideo kojima who "does not want to predict the future"
there's only one single way, it's not forward
it's back in time to get a taste of the truth.
the taste of the unifying big bang itself
