seeing as people actually paid attention to my book 2 mdzs rant, let’s do one more~~

book 3 of mdzs review😋

lotus pier arc???? i hate madam yu but her character art is also like kinda hot 🥵 but girl literally abuses her ward verbally and THEN WHIPS HIM?? WITH A SPIRITUAL WEAPON?? LIKE WTF my poor baby wwx 😭

the whole wen indoctrination part like omg jin zixuan is actually kind of cool??? and then lan zhan being emo bc CLOUD RECESSES BURNT DOWN 😭 OMG i felt so bad, and the way he just closed himself off despite the pain in his leg until wwx comes along and annoys it out of him <3 also side note loved the part where wei ying quotes wen mao and totally destroys wen chao like 🧎‍♀️🧎‍♀️🧎‍♀️

fighting the xuanwu of slaughter and having a little tension between my boys 🤌🤌 AND LWJ LET HIM SLEEP ON HIS LAP?!?!😫😫😫 i can’t fr they’re too cute 🥰 and also like the way they both credited killing it to each other like too pure ugh

this might be just me but i feel like mxtx has a lot of opportunities to angst more with like wwx getting whipped or like branded and all those injuries?? maybe its just me being a monster obsessed with angst 😥 but i would’ve liked more emphasis on how much they actually suffered from these injuries bc ik they’re cultivators with strong cores but like. ??? pain is a thing

To finish off the MDZS ones (or so far anyway), here's Wonderwall WangXian:

This one fought me hard and tbh it's not my favourite of the bunch, but whatever it's done. I mean it's not bad or anything, it just... I don't love it? It's fine, it's whatever, it's fine. I'm just picky.

Then I went over to TGCF and made a HuaLian one (the first of the ideas in my head anyway):

I'm really fond of how eclectic this design turned out, I had fun with it. I also flat out forgot which side Hua Cheng's eyepatch was on the moment I decided to put a nod to it in and had to look it up, but that's besides the point. 🤣

And finally, the reason for my poll the other day, I made a Beefleaf one:

Ngl this might be my favourite. I love how it came out. It's almost 1:1 the image in my head and I am very happy with that.

I'm gonna make at least one more HuaLian one that I have an idea for and then, if I can't think of any more, I'll put them up on the kofi shop probably sometime this month or early next month.

Ship it!

What made you ship it? Well, the onscreen chemistry didn't hurt, but honestly when I finished MDZS I just felt really bad for LXC, even though at that point I wasn't actively shipping him with anyone. But I felt really bad for him, and started looking for fics where he has a happy ending. For SOME REASON, it turns out that fics where LXC have a happy ending, tend to be Xiyao fics! And so I fell in love with JGY as well, and started shipping it.

What are your favourite things about the ship? I love how they're so in tune with each other. They just vibe, you know?

Is there an unpopular opinion I have on the ship? I don't know, I really don't know...I guess in the context of the broader fandom 'Xiyao isn't abusive and LXC isn't some airheaded himbo who has no idea what kind of Nefarious Shit JGY was up to' is an unpopular opinion, but I can't really think of anything that would be unpopular within the, you know, xiyao ghetto of fandom.

Why don’t you ship it? I just don't see it. For me, ruyao has got weird incest vibes, maybe because Wen Ruohan treated Meng Yao better than his shitheel father (or almost anyone else in the jianghu) ever did. I do love reading about the two of them, but not in a romantic sense. Although I could probably be convinced, but then again...where's Lan Xichen while all this is going on? Because as I've said elsewhere, a Jin Guangyao who isn't utterly captivated by Lan Xichen is a JGY I don't know what to do with.

What would have made you like it? if Wen RuoHan was Lan Xichen? haha no, i don't know. Maybe if it's like an arranged marriage thing where JGS sells him off, I could see it working? But the problem is that JGY is always in love with LXC, so what happens there?

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it? Wen RuoHan treated Meng Yao better than almost anyone else in the jianghu. I have no doubt that with the application of only a small amount of Wiles, Meng Yao could have become Wen-furen and ruled at Wen RuoHan's side, and he would have been happy, and WRH would have reformed his murdering ways, and the jianghu would never have been so well-run.

1. How many works do you have on AO3? 118 (including WIPs) - and this does not include my very early fanfic from the days before AO3 (though I hope to put those on one day)

2. What's your total AO3 word count? 842,883

3. What fandoms do you write for? Currently exclusively writing for MDZS/The Untamed - nothing else has quite gripped my entire consciousness as much as this fandom and its characters have.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Think Outside the Shell (aka my first Nie Sect Murder Tortoise fic), Gen fic where Nie Huaisang domesticates the xuanwu - 657

When Fate Opens a Window, Let Us Fly Through It, NieLan accidental (but really orchestrated by NHS) Lan ribbon marriage fic - 521

Under the Cold Qinghe Mountains, WangXian with dragon!LWJ and background SangCheng (this is so weird because I am NOT known as a WangXian writer at all!!!) - 494

It Was You All Along, SangCheng post-canon where NHS wore a mask to take part in a courtship tournament for JC, and now is the time to reveal himself, with a side of Yunmeng Shuangjie reconciliation - 468

Wrong Shell, Wrong Time, Gen (with background SangYao), the 3rd of my Nie Sect Murder Tortoise fics but my personal favourite (JGS gets eaten by a xuanwu and the only witnesses are Nie Huaisang, Meng Yao, and Jin Zixun - and Nie Mingjue is trying to find out what really happened) - 415

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes! I respond to every comment if possible - I think the only ones I might not respond to are where someone says something as a placeholder and that they'll give another comment saying more, but never do. But yeah, every comment however big or small means the WORLD to me, so the least I can do is send back a thank you :D

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I think this is probably Mercy - it ends with NHS foregoing his revenge against JGY to give him a quick death with his reputation intact and it broke my heart to write.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Hard to pick since in general I tend to go the happy/hopeful ending route, and what constitutes a happy ending can be a very individual thing (e.g. for many the "married with children and a white picket fence" is the ideal happy ending, though I'm of a different opinion). If I had to choose, I think it would be a tie between Bed of Roses (modern day SangCheng, where the guys don't just get together but NHS can finally visit with his family again after 2 decades apart), and In This Garden, We Raise a Little Shell (I did the seemingly impossible and gave Jin Zixun a happy ending that people actually seemed to LIKE no romance just a JZXun/Garden ship lol).

8. Do you get hate on fics? Now? No, not really - every now and then there might be a comment that's a little less than stellar, like a criticism of a direction I went in or saying I was too generous in giving a certain character a happy ending, but that's very minor. Once upon a time? Yep - I stared writing back around the turn of the millenium when anti-gay crusaders were ecstatic going onto people sites and commenting that they would be going to hell because they're such sinners, etc - I once wrote a fic where a character was in Montreal with family on the day remembering the Ecole Polytechnique massacre, mostly gen but at the end I had him get a hug from his boyfriend - since I didn't put it as a ship in the description, I had comments, very unpleasant comments, about it.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes!!! I enjoy it, I hope readers enjoy it too. And I've written all kinds - romantic, casual, kinky, mistaken identity, multiple partners, dubious noncon, m/f & m/m (and I have an idea in the works for a f/f). I think the only I haven't written is smut where one is trans (am not trans myself, and I think I would worry too much about how to say things and worry I'm using the wrong terms or being accidentally disrespectful), serious dead dove stuff, or A/B/O (the latter is a squick of mine).

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? I have written crossovers, though very few recently. The craziest one was probably one called Things To Do in L.A. When You’re Insane - it was a crossover between the A-Team, Skinner (an old horror movie with Ted Raimi and Ricki Lake), Lunatics: A Love Story (another movie with Ted Raimi), and Xena: Warrior Princess, where characters from the original 3 modern-day canons were reincarnations of the triplets Joxer, Jett & Jace from Xena. It was weird but fun!

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge. Lots of accidental 2Cakes situtations, but that's all.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? No - I did receive a comment asking if someone could translate one of my fics into Russian once, but I never heard from them again.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes!!! In 2 different ways. My old fandom friend JoeyRZ and I co-wrote a Xena/seaQuest crossover that turned out so well, and our writing styles were so similar that nobody could tell where one of us started and the other ended :D It was great!!! Also, way back in the day we used to do Round Robins - A story told from one person to another (e.g. the order is chosen at random, one person writes the first scene, the next the following, etc etc until a story is done), sometimes with themes (I remember the centaur sex one and the "copy such and such writer's style" one, both had been on KSAres if I remember right). They were great, low-commitment and high creativity community activities that I would LOVE to see make a comeback!!!

14. What's your all-time favorite ship? For this, I'm going to consider both romantic and platonic ships, and I'll list for a couple of fandoms. Back in my Xena days, I know Joxer/Ares was huge for us Joxer fans, but I was a multi-shipper to the core... so I think actually the platonic Joxer&Xena&Gabrielle was my favourite to explore because they were totally found family :D Back in seaQuest, I loved Tim O'Neill & Miguel Ortiz both platonically and romantically - even when I shipped Tim with other guys, they'd always know that there is no Tim without Miguel :D And currently, even though I enjoy shipping Nie Huaisang with several others, my heart belongs to SangCheng.

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? Toooo many, I even have a folder titled "Neglected WIPs".

16. What are your writing strengths? I think I'm good at dialogue, and at seeing the world through another character's eyes, particularly to where their opinions and mine might differ greatly.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Figuring out how to end a scene (and keep writing and writing long past when it should have ended), impatience (particularly in the editing stage - I just want to get the damned thing online even if it's less than perfect), lack of confidence in my writing (which affects me actually getting to writing it). I'm having a good day so that's my answer, but on bad days that list can go on far too long.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? It would have to be one I'm familiar enough with, and I would always put a translation next to it - never assume everyone else knows the same combination of languages that you do (e.g. some people have accused me of not being bilingual because I don't speak spanish - doesn't matter that I speak english and french fluently, learned some Russian in uni, and am picking up bits and pieces of random mandarin at the moment, etc etc).

19. First fandom you wrote for? Technically this would be the Muppets - I wrote a story about Gonzo the Great for a class project in 6th grade. But when it comes to grown up fic writing, I think it was Xena - I know I wrote a couple of Red Dwarf fics around the same time so I'm not 100% sure which came first, but Xena was my first HUUUUUGE fandom experience :D

20. Favorite fic you've written? I have no idea how to answer this - I've written a lot in several different fandoms, and there have been ones in each I'm proud of, including fandoms I try to stay away from these days (HP). But maybe because there's so many and they're so varied, I just can't bring it down to one or two favs.

How did your MXTX fandom start?

I saw some TGCF edits in tiktok back in November of last year and I thought of keeping an eye on it since it looked beautiful, but I didn’t feel like getting into new media at the time and finally started the donghua in January. Then I moved on to the MDZS donghua and live action, and lastly the SVSSS donghua. I started reading the novels after I bought the first volume of SVSSS and MDZS back in April.

Favourite quote?

“This time, no matter where you wish to go, this master will accompany you.” I’m soft for this line

Character that deserves more screen time?

Ning Yingying. I want to know what she was up to when Shen Qingqiu wasn’t around. She deserves to have Luo Binghe’s harem. I love her so much and I hope Ning Yingying knows she deserves the world.

Favourite side ship?

Liu Mingyan/Sha Hualing/Ning Yingying Why? They all have two hands, which are used to host a slumber party and summon the devil while kissing.

How did your MXTX fandom start?

Funny story, I was in the middle of my final exams last semester and I found out about TGCF donghua. I watched it, fell in love with Xie Lian, and then, in my desperation for more, discovered the novels. I read them on my study breaks... Also watched MDZS then, and I also love it, but I guess TGCF has a special place on my hear... u can say I got obsessed, and here I am... I like it here.

3. What’s your favourite aspect of MDZS? (I already answered this so I hope you don't mind me copy pasting ^_~ )

Oh gods, there is so much... How complex and well-written the characters are, their motives, their fears, and what drives them. How tight the plot is, and just the story's execution - how even with all the flashbacks it never feels jarring.

But my favourite aspect has to be, without a doubt, Wei Wuxian. Just how brilliant a protagonist he is, his ideals, his determination, his sheer strength of will. Wei Wuxian as a character inspires me to be a better person, and I think that will always be the most cherished thing I have about MDZS.

5. Do you ship any side pairs?

In canon I do like JZX/JYL well enough. I adore CSSR/WCZ even though we never really get to see them much. In CQL canon, I will admit that I shipped BSSR/LY.

In AUs I like WQ/LXC, JYL/LXC, WQ/NMJ, but only in AUs, especially with regard to WQ ships. I used to like WQ/Mianmian, but the thing is, I have grown to like Mianmian's husband quite a bit so I have left that ship behind.

JYL/WN is an interesting concept, as is JYL/NHS. one-sided JFM/WCZ, with JFM crushing on WCZ for much of his teen years. Oh! JFM/Therapy because that poor man deserves it.

8. What’s the worst fanon take you’ve read?

I ... gods. There are so many....

I guess I have to say the fanon that says Wen Remnants and Wei Wuxian deserved to be killed. That they were at fault somehow for ... existing? Stuff like comparing the Wen remnants to nazis and the like - acting like the prison camps were somehow morally right. (This fanon in particular was what made me feel so distasteful about the MDZS fandom and prompted me to leave the first time around.)

How did your MXTX fandom start?

Me and my partner watched TGCF anime about a year ago and it went down the rabbit hole from there, they basically dragged me along all the way.. We read TGCF together and later SVSSS. I was very skeptical about SVSSS at first, because the animation looked suspicious, but it is my favourite now. (We also watched MDZS, but I didn’t enjoy it as much because I hate zombies)

Favourite quote?

“If I was already destined to be no one remarkable, then at the very least, I…wanted to be a kind and perfect person. But…I couldn't even do that.”

Character that deserves more screen time?

Mu Qing! I love my little meow meow. And I can’t want to see Yin Yu and Quan Yizhen appear

5: Do you ship any side pairs?

I have to say the only side ships I'm invested in are ones in regards to Lan Xichen, excluding Jin Guangyao and Nie Mingjue. If it's a Lan Xichen-centric ship chances are I am cool with it. Other fringe ships are Niecest (lol) Jin Guangyao x Nie Mingjue, And Jiang Cheng x Jin Guangshan! I can't say that I'm a one and only shipper for any of MDZS side characters though.

9: What’s your favourite piece of fan content you’ve consumed (metas, fanart, fanfiction, etc)?

A fanfic I usually always go back to is a CQL-verse one! I feel it nicely gets the "feel" of CQL's characterizations without it relying on the popular take of making CQL Wei Wuxian insecure with his own love or think he isn't deserving of it. Just a nice pining plot and a realization he goes for once he does parse out his feelings.

Do you have any Wen Qing-focused fic recs? I really, really like her, but I don’t dare to brave the mdzs tag on AO3 >.<

Ahh, we're sadly in the same boat here! I adore Wen Qing, she's one of my favourite characters, but sadly, the (I think?) most popular Wen Qing ship is one of my NoTPs, and I mostly read Yi City fic. I have a few Wen Qing fics bookmarked, but I can't read much atm bc I am very burnt out, so I haven't gotten to them yet.

I really like this fic here, tho! It explores the darker sides of Wen Qing's character and lets her be a bit of a morally grey mad scientist, which I appreciate a lot. Warning for large amounts of angst!

I wasn't tagged but I've always wanted to do one of these, so who cares! I'm doing it anyway!

How many works do you have on AO3? 85 and counting

What is your AO3 word count? 417 089

What fandoms do you write for? FFXIV, Genshin, and (newly) BG3, mostly. I dabble in others, but I rarely share them.

What are your top five fics by kudos? The Daily Inconveniences of an Au Ra, The Detriments of Being a Fox, To Catch a Fox by His Tail, Reckless and Wrecked, and The Soft Green Glow of Affection.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I try to whenever I can! Sometimes I can't come up with anything better to say than "Yay!" or "I'm glad you liked it!" but I always try to put in the effort to make my responses personal when I can. It's a lot of effort to comment, and I want to show my appreciation!

What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Probably Nidhogg's Final Revenge, which actually has an even angstier alternate ending that I opted not to post. The one it's got is dark enough on it's own :P

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Why is this question so hard? Maybe No Regrets? A lot of my fics have peaceful or happy-ish endings, but I can't think of any that end "happily ever after"

Do you get hate on fics? Not often

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Sure do. It is my personal mission to prove that consent is sexy

What are your writing strengths? Really evocative descriptions. I think I'm really good at drawing the reader into the scene.

What are your writing weaknesses? Please for the love of the gods do not make me write action. Or do, I guess, so I can get better at it, but >.<

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I have... a lot of thoughts on this. Tl;dr, if you're just going to translate it right after anyway, don't bother. If you're doing it because you expect your reader to understand or because you intend for them to not understand (ie with fantasy languages), go for it.

First fandom you wrote for? Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I think?

Favourite fic you've ever written? My actual favorite fic is one I haven't shared yet, but of the ones I've posted... The Soft Green Glow of Affection

So, by absolutely nobody's request I made a shitpost based on Eldena Doubleca5t’s awesome youtube videos. I included the link to the channel in the source because this post won’t show up if i put it here. Go give her videos a watch and then read this post in her voice because I swear to you it'll be a 100% funnier

Also, these are absolutely NOT to be taken seriously. I was just procrastinating by taking the piss out of these characters. I’m not here to start any ship wars. Not sure if it's the kind of question you wanna answer, I'm just curious about chinese fandom in general and I'd be happy if you'd just...tell us whatever you want to tell. Where is most of the fandom activity happening? I know there's lofter where people might post (mainly ship-)fics and art, and also weibo which seems similarly confusing to navigate as twitter. Are there people who write meta posts and if so where do they post those? What's the main difference between chn and eng fandom for you?

Hi! I’d love to talk about this, but first I have to say that my experience with the Chinese fandom is very limited because these days I don’t have the time and energy to engage with fandoms like I used to…even here on Tumblr I just read things on my dash and rarely go search for content. I think the biggest fandom space on the Chinese internet would be baidu tieba, and the users there tend to be pretty young. People sometimes write metas there too but it’s mostly a nice place to look for memes I guess? If you want to read metas, analysis, serious opinions etc, you could try zhihu (which is like Quora) or douban (my favourite mdzs essay is on douban and I translated it here). I think you’d find plenty of analysis videos on bilibili.

As for weibo…I’m scared of the place because it’s overcrowded and full of trolls. There’re people on weibo who dedicate their entire blogs to trashing mxtx and spreading slanders about her, and you know the part in tgcf about Xie Lian being pierced by a hundred swords? –

I’ve seen mxtx haters on weibo making fun of the “it hurts it hurts it hurts…” passage, it’s so immature and callous. I never went to search for mxtx fandom content on weibo again after that (sorry it got dark, if you want to read a more light-hearted post about tgcf Chinese fandom, I wrote one here).

“What’s the main difference between chn and eng fandom” – emmm I’m not sure how to answer this question…I think you can expect to find all the good and bad things that exist in the English speaking fandom to also exist in the Chinese fandom. And this probably has nothing to do with fandoms at all and it’s due to my interest in religions – because the Chinese language is steeped in Buddhism as much as the English language is steeped in Christianity, there’d be an interesting contrast when you put Chinese readers’ opinions and English speaking readers’ opinions side by side – the former would be somewhat shaped by Buddhist concepts just as the latter would be somewhat shaped by Christian concepts, even if the readers themselves might not always be conscious of it.
