moon goddess pearl and sun god grian from the moonrise au by @germworms and i!!
more explanation below
basically pearl and grian are siblings and they both control the sun and moon on the world the au takes place on (we called it "square earth" hehe)
their respective prophets are mumbo and bdubs (mumbo stayed up all night anyway working on redstone contraptions so pearl figured he would be the best candidate and bdubs always sleeps through the night and enjoys the day so grian chose him) theres silly sibling beef between them bc mumbo is grians fav human and pearl just had to choose him :)
overtime grian starts to worry that he's falling into the habits of the old sun before him, joel--a collapsed star who turned himself into a black hole and brought the old moon goddess, lizzie, with him into nothingness and obscurity (may make a post about them later)
in an attempt to avoid this or at least postpone it, grian disappears to live life as a "human" in disguise (he's tired of working as a god anyway) and forgoes his duty for an indefinite amount of time. no one else, not even pearl, knows where he's gone
without the sun to warm the land the season remains as winter (called the "red winter" bc of how much death occurs) many humans suffer, leading them to resent pearl for what's going on. pearl is trying desperately to work with the other gods (mainly bigb) to figure out where her brothers gone but to no avail

Explanation vv
First panels show a normal day of the prophets, meanwhile Ren is dying on the battlefield. The next panels on the next page is when the sun suddenly disappears without warning, Mumbo is glamored in red from his redstone lamp and Bdubs gets his light from his necklace.
Grian is seen emerging from the water, the snow and ice around him has all disappeared bc he's that warm.
Grian is oblivious to the chaos his lack of presence will bring, and is ready to head off into adventure!
Since Grian is gone, along with natural light, some resources can be used, like coal and redstone for warmth. Redstone serves as a light source too.

why do i always end up titling fics after dean’s songs?
// no warnings apply; kind of a special for Mabon (a pagan harvest festival which is celebrated on the Autumnal Equinox each year),,, but this mostly revolves around mc and Seungmin’s interactions. mc is a fictional witch, not to be confused with the kind of witchcraft actual Wiccans practice. This year’s Harvest Moon came early in September, which meant the New Moon would peep around the middle of the month; just in time for gathering a new batch of Moonwater for Mabon. The only thing off for your preparations was that the Moonrise would occur behind the town’s forest, meaning your usual place where you’d leave out your container for Moonwater would be obstructed by the ancient treetops of Chan’s forest as you literally lived next to it. Normally you’d just climb to the rooftop of your neighbor’s house (with their permission of course), but you’d just moved to this new cottage and have not even interacted with any of your neighbors once.
“Spend the night with me then,” Seungmin proposed one particularly chilly afternoon, the clouds looming threateningly over your heads. Albeit you welcomed the rain whenever it may choose to grace the land, you couldn’t help but frown when a few raindrops had curiously kissed your cheeks as you looked up at the Sky. “I would not mind you staying under my care. In fact, I would be elated.”
He smiled down at you in his arms, “To spend a night with my beloved when the Moon is New?”Lifting a scarred hand to cup your cheek, he sighed dreamily.
“Why Seungmin, that sounds rather scandalous of you,” you laughed. “I see no need to stay a whole night when I only have to find a suitable location to gather Moonwater.”
“Can I not see my lover in the stars presence?” Seungmin, suddenly dejected, pulls away from your embrace. “I see, you are ashamed of me.”
Letting out a small bout of giggles, you encased him in another hug (although a very poor attempt to keep him still as your arms could never hold him still whenever he was pouty) and stared him down. “Seungmin, my precious Creature of the Earth, my dearest love. I could never be ashamed of you. Not in this form nor the other.”
And if Seungmin wasn’t sure of his love for you, then he was then. For the way you swayed him side to side in a silent dance where your music was the rustling of passing leaves and critters’ cries was enough to tell him that his love was true, as was yours. He payed little heed to the growing storm ahead and rested his forehead in yours instead, content right where he was. Then, “You’re beautiful.”
Seungmin closed his eyes, embarrassed to see your honest eyes gazing lovingly at his. You were unbelievable - just when he thinks he can’t love you even more, you go ahead and prove him wrong. “Flattery is not going to save you this time around, silly mortal.”
You hummed, absentmindedly rubbing circles on his back. “I do not reckon I’m in any trouble at all, kind forest spirit.”
Seungmin couldn’t help but smile wide, head thrown back yet arms still wrapped protectively around your form. “You’re impossible.”
“And you’re truly beautiful.”
The rain fell gently and uncertainly over you two that afternoon, almost as if the Sky hated to see you two part again.

One thing you loved about visiting Seungmin was that he was always waiting for you on the grass near his Oak tree, sometimes surrounded by friendly critters or just cloudgazing. But that was in the daytime.
This time around, you had to bother Chan to guide you to his tree in the dark. (He didn’t mind though; he always loved seeing Seungmin so lively. Especially so when he was with you.) You invited him to spend your little celebration-slash-picnic together but opted not to when he saw the drus over the Moon to see you at night.
“I thought you needn’t spend the night?” He smiled and you almost found yourself shivering at its intensity; genuine and full, and especially more endearing when you gather yourself enough to realize that the bark of his skin almost seemed iridescent under the minimal lighting of whatever filtered light that came from the bustling town.
“I wanted to spend Mabon with you though,” You motioned for him to join you on the little cloth you set on the grass, hands actively trying to busy themselves in attempt to mask your jittery heart. “But the townspeople kept me busy the entire day.”
It’s been too long since you’ve seen him like this - in his fragile, almost powerless form. Shakily, you breathed out, “But now I’m here.”
He followed suit, tilting his head to get a glimpse of your tired face. Reaching out to grab your wrist, he almost pulled back when he noticed the contract of your smooth skin compared to his rough bark. “You wanted to see me after the Sun had gone?”
You nodded, gently placing a hand over his. “That’s just what I said, is it not?”
“Why?”
“I already told you before,” his eyes showed hints of confusion and doubt, but you were quick to ease him. “Because I love you in this form and the other.”
People often said you were crazy for loving a tree spirit. And perhaps they were right, you were crazy in love for Seungmin.
But he was also crazy in love with you.

CS Fic Rec Monday
I’m sorry that I didn’t have time to make a mood board or come up with a big list of one shots or mc’s. I’m a very tired pregnant lady who is in need of naps and is not totally prepared for things. To be honest, I almost completely forgot it was Monday despite wearing a name tag that had MONDAY written across it in large letters, among other things 😂

the fall of ren the king
( sad scene from the mc moonrise au by @germworms and i, more explanation below!!)
basic premise is that (as of now) there are two kingdoms that worship multiple different gods and rn there are prophets for at least the sun and moon gods (grian and pearl respectively, but we'll talk about them in a later post :)))
for rens kingdom they used to worship the sun and moon but after some events ren turned to the god of death (jimmy) and became besties w his secretary basically (reaper martyn)
rens kingdom is also known for engaging in a lot of wars and having the best military around so he's also got a good relationship w the god of war (doc)
however during one of these battles he's killed (whoopsie!!) and due to some other circumstances the red winter starts to takes shape and lasts for a longgg while
gem, his daughter, has to take his place as ruler of the kingdom (to which she switches the main religion back to worshipping the sun and moon) but still mourns the death of her father as she's reminded of it everyday during the everlasting red winter

the lonely little sun :,)
this is a little skyblings comic i made for the moonrise au by @germworms and i!! more details below vv
some general context if you're not familiar with the au: basically it's a life series/hermitcraft au about gods and humans and kingdoms and all that cool stuff :) pearl and grian are the current moon and sun gods respectively (their predecessors are joel and lizzie but there are other posts for their lore)
now onto the comic vv
a big concern of grians is becoming too overwhelmed with his position as sun god as that can cause a supernova and subsequently the destruction of the entire system soooo
all throughout childhood pearl has made it clear to him that she's always available to talk to and as a way of looking out for him she often (not maliciously) speaks on his behalf and allows him to be a recluse basically (she just really cares for him as they're both the only close family they really have; jimmys like a distant cousin in this au lmao)
when they were kids and coming to terms w the fact that they're literal gods w responsibilities pearl would try to tell grian the story of joel (prev sun god) and his fate in a very roundabout way as to not scare him but warn him about the pressures of his future position and encourage him to be open with her
(also ik stars are technically scott's thing in the au but the sun is also a star?? sooo it makes sense when in reference to grian/joel)
the dialogue is taken from shane koyczan's piece "for instance" i highly recommend checking it out!! all of his poetry is insane and heart wrenching

moonrise au mumbo and grian doodles bc they are so silly ft. a quote by the lovely @germworms when we were exploring their dynamic
little bit of explanation below!
basically after grian disappears from his position as a god he lives in disguise on "square earth" and eventually finds his fav human, mumbo! (the moon prophet)
being so detached from the land of the humans leaves grian really curious about almost everything (yes like the little mermaid but w mcyt gods)
so he's pestering mumbo w all his questions and just generally never leaving him alone, mumbo is slightly annoyed by this and tries to get him off his ass by giving him random objects to inspect or he starts a fire for him to stare at for hours
grian is naturally very warm (sun god tings) and mumbo is naturally cold being the moon prophet so grian sometimes just hangs close by to make sure he doesn't die of hypothermia (red winter era, very cold brr) even though mumbo doesn't mind the cold as much
mumbo also has no idea grian is the sun god (remember no human has seen him in this form other than his prophet) so he starts complaining to bdubs about this weird guy who keeps following him around and is too frustrated to notice bdubs giving him suspicious looks

more exploration of joel and lizzie (plus some bigb and scott) in the moonrise au by @germworms and i!! go check out their comic that also explains some of the lore surrounding them :)
more explanation below!!
joel and lizzie were the ancient sun and moon gods that existed wayy before grian and pearl but when joel supernova'd (is that a word?) and became a black hole he consumed everything in their system, including lizzie
lizzie was obviously the love of his life and was also well loved by others. she would get gifted pearls and other ocean treasures from bigb (god of water) they were good friends since lizzie's moon's gravity would influence bigb's tides (her closeness with water also came through in how she presented herself, decorated with seashells and pearls and dressed in iridescent blues)
lizzie would then take bigb's gifts and turn them into necklaces and bracelets etc for joel to wear (he liked to wear jewelry to feel important, big ego small man)
after the supernova, joel is obviously devastated and never truly gets over his grief, holding on the the last trace of lizzie he has left (pearl necklace)

The prophet Mumbo in his moon attires
From mine and @cheerioskid s moonrise au :)
Mumbo is the prophet of Pearl and was just a normal guy with a 9-5 redstone job before he got blessed by Pearl. Despite that, he's shown to be really loyal for his new religion and taking the prophet role as a new trait.
The T on his head is a deal he struck with Tango, the God of Creation, to master even more redstone, in return Tango would be able to track Mumbo likewise Pearl can. Tango loves creative people and to watch as Mumbo creates is such a joy for him.
Mumbo is under Xisumas Kingdom and has residence there, he does meet with Bdubs and discuss Skynet with him.

A bit of a quick comic idea for Joel and Lizzie from me and @cheerioskid s au, mc moonrise au! The lyrics are from Lord Huron's song, "The Moon Doesn't Mind".
(more lore? vv)
Joel and Lizzie, a former Massive Star, aka his solar systems Sun, and Lizzie are formerly the well known Moon of the system.
For some unknown reason, Joel started questioning his role as the Sun and becoming more and more depressed, leading to the start of his early stages of a supernova.
In his explosion, he consumed all the stars surrounding him and all the planets, including Lizzie.
He refused to die, and became a black hole. In his grief, he found Scott, who at first comforted him, but after Joel began consuming more stars, which made Scott's job harder, the two of them became sort of enemies.
Scott, the ruler of the stars, resides in his dimension "The End", with his pet dragon and billions of stars. He keeps joking about Lizzie being reincarnated into his dragon, which pisses Joel off.

Ocean Prince BigB!!
From me and @cheerioskid 's au, mc Moonrise! Technically he's the embodiment of water in general, he likes calling himself prince and not king.
(read more below cut vv)
The universe is filled with tons of gasses that have been here from the very beginning, in most gasses water is found, aka H2O(Chemical name), BigB was born out of that. He, Jimmy and Scott have been there the longest, and thus have been friends.
On Square Earth, his worshippers are drowned mostly, and merfolk.
After getting into a heated fight with Doc(God of War), BigB bets that his humans don't stand a chance against mobs, in which case Doc gets mad and convinces Ren to start a war. And then tragedy strikes and the red winter begins.
Without the sun to heat up the ice, BigB is powerless, thus abandoning Square Earth for a while leading to more chaos.
BigB does know that Grian is on Earth, but snitches get stitches, so he keeps his mouth shut when Pearl asks him where Grian is.
