Y'all so it turns out if you click on the little clothes hanger icon on the character's profile you can see their alternate art when they reach a high enough insight level and —

Something about this makes me so sad???
Like it's Click. But he's alive. He's solid and corporeal and this might be the last time he was solid and corporeal.
The bandage on one of his arms, his face being nothing but calm and probably only concerned about the angle the shell is coming in for his picture is just tragic. I don't know what happened between when he dies and when he meets the timekeeper or if they're even gonna touch on that but like, man, it's so sad.
How did he get so obsessed with recording what was happening to the point of losing his own sense of self preservation and for said obsession to continue even in his 'afterlife'.
Can you imagine if he got to live until the end of the war? To see the war finally come to an end?

All You Need is Confidence
Part 2
A/N: I don’t own any gifs I use, this is just for fun. I’ll probably make this a serious just because it’s fun to write. Enjoy! I’m so sorry it sucks, I have writers block so bad! It’s going fast too because, honestly, I just wanna get to the good parts.
Warnings: Minor language, suggestive themes, student teacher relationships, and poly relationships. Also Boy x boy stuff too!
Tumblr media
Your mind went blank, there was no thought in the world passing through you as you kissed Mr. Park Jaehyung, your damned English teacher. Time stopped-or it seemed to stop-everything was just focused on you two and how your lips moved flawlessly against each other. Softly, Mr. Park's hand slide down from your cheek, firmly holding your shoulder. You almost forgot someone else was sitting in the room with the both of you.
"Ahem," Mr. Kim cleared his throat.
Instantly, you jumped away from Mr. Park, your chair moving back with a loud screeching noise echoing in the room. Was it always this quiet? Everything that happened just hit you, the fact you had a panic attack in the middle of class and let without permission, or maybe that your teacher kissed you and you kissed him back, better yet another teacher was in the same room as the both of you!
Your head hung low with shame, you couldn't fathom kissing your teacher was a good thing. Although, at the moment it never felt better to kiss Mr. Park's perfect lips, still, it was illegal and your dumbass craved more.
"Y/N?" You flinched a bit upon hearing Mr. Park speak up, his honey voice making you shake to your core. "I'm sorry-"
Before he could apologize, you stood up, abruptly, scaring both teachers into thinking you felt violated. That's the last thing they wanted for you, to feel harassed by the sudden emotions of a teacher.
"Do-Don't," you stuttered out.
There was nothing else to say, neither Mr. Kim nor Mr. Park didn't have the heart to say anything to you. Mr. Park didn't want you to be freaked out, really, he wanted to tell you he loved and cared for you. But, he decided you didn't need to know that for now, it still seemed you were conflicted by that kiss just now. Or the fact you could get reported by Mr. Kim due to him witnessing this whole event.
"I think...," you started, nearly choking on your words. "I think I need to go home?"
It came out more as a question less than a statement, both teachers just nodded in response instead of saying anything at all. Which, you had to admit, any other word or action would flip your lid.
"Alright...," Mr. Kim trailed on, deciding to talk before Mr. Park could. "I'll tell the office I sent you home since you...um...threw up in my class? That's okay right?"
If you weren't so flipped the fuck out, you would've cooed at Mr. Kim's "that's okay right?"
"That's fine...I guess...I'm gonna go."
Without another word, without a goodbye, without anything at all, you picked up your stray bag slinging it over your shoulder. Hastily running out the door with a million thoughts running through your mind. Mr. Park kissed you like full-fledged kissed you and the worst part about a good-looking, funny, TEACHER kissing you was that you liked it. The kiss lingered on your lips, the feeling of his plump lips echoing begging for more, it was like a shot of serotonin. You tried rubbing the kiss off your lips, shaking the feeling almost as you walked to your car.
Long story short you kissed a teacher on a Monday, but now it's Thursday and you haven't been to school yet. Of course, you didn't tell a single soul about the events that happened. You also didn't know if Mr. Kim reported either of you to the principal, considering the school didn't call your mom or anything you just assumed Mr. Kim never told either. You managed to get your mom to call you out of school for two days, to your mother two days were more than enough. The only option you had was to go to school and skip Mr. Park's class and let's just mention this you weren't disgusted Mr. Park kissed you, but the fact you don't know how to act around him now.
Anyway, as your mom was pushing you out of the house to get ready to head to school, Mr. Kim was having a very heated conversation with Mr. Park.
"What the hell were you thinking," Mr. Kim's voice was a whisper disguised as a scream. '
Early this morning he came into Mr. Park's classroom when they both didn't have class, pacing back and forth around the room. So many emotions ran through Mr. Kim's head, he couldn't quite place a finger on what exact emotion he was feeling. Wonpil had feelings for you, seeing you kiss Mr. Park-his best friend-made him upset for an odd reason. Upset that you didn't kiss him first but rather kissed Mr. Park, but the fact that he wasn't mad about the kiss itself made him wonder. In the moment, he was oddly entranced by the way both of your lips met, keeping a close eye on your both. Even weirder he fantasized himself kissing you...and Jae. This all... was new for Wonpil, yes he always knew he had feelings for you. But Jae, that was different. Jae and he were always close so he thought the feelings he had were just the closeness they shared, as of recently Wonpil's starting to rethink their "friendship."
"I didn't mean to," Jae spoke up.
Mr. Park sat at his desk, rubbing his temples lightly trying to figure out the mess he just made. Teachers are usually updated on the students not coming to school, so when they didn't see your name on the absentee list a conversation sparked up between them.
"It all just happened so fast-You don't understand-"
"Hyung, I do understand!"
Mr. Park's argument was obviously weak, they both knew it all too well. Wonpil swallowed harshly, looking at his friend in a conflicting matter.
"What," Jae grew frustrated as it neared his first class, all he wanted was this controversy to be over. "Pil do you want me to say sorry! Do you want me to regret kissing her because I don't!"
Wonpil and Jae fought in the past, typically in their high school years, but Jae has never raised his voice like he was doing now. It was only natural that Wonpil was taken aback, new things and emotions seemed to be coming to life.
"I like her," Jae firmly said, trying not to sound stern but still getting his point across.
"Hyung," Wonpil started, but Jae raised a hand before he could finish stopping him further.
"Pil, I know this might ruin our...I know you like her too. Right?"
Wonpil only nodded shyly, he knew it wasn't his turn to talk. Jae had more to say about the topic of liking her.
"Maybe there's a way she can pick one of us-or none of us."
"Jae," Wonpil tried, feeling himself grow uncomfortable, but failed due to Jae's upcoming rant.
"Or maybe there's no hope for either of us because it's illegal-"
"Jae," Wonpil spoke again, but still not getting through to him.
"But what if she chooses one of us, what happens to the other!"
"Jae! Let me talk to just a second," Wonpil whined, but successfully shutting Jae up.
"Jae," Wonpil started, blushing softly not making any eye contact. "Have you ever had multiple relations, at the same time..."
"What do you mean," Jae asked, slightly confused at the sudden question. You know, after they just got done screaming at each other for liking the same girl.
"I mean," Wonpil started, leaning onto a nearby desk being a blushing mess. The thought he was having wasn't exactly the most "normal" thought he's had. "Have you ever dated two people at the same time?"
"Wonpil, I don't cheat on people I would think you'd know that-"
"Jae," Wonpil moaned out of frustration. Usually, he was the naive one, but currently, Jae is making it hard not to throw something at his head. "Like three people dating, each other, at the same time."
"Pil," Jae's eyes opened wide, the first-period bell ringing at the same time. "Are you saying you want to be in a relationship with Y/N and...me?"
Students flowed into Mr. Park's room, some muttering hi's to both teachers as they just stood in the middle of the room. A look of disbelief was plastered over Jae's face, Wonpil was still in shock that he even insinuated that he wanted a poly relationship with his best friend and a student! Wonpil doesn't even know what he wants, but yet he suggested an idea that made his heart flutter just thinking about all three of them in a relationship. It was a schoolgirl thing to do. Jae, on the other hand, was still processing what Mr. Kim had said. Did Wonpil just indirectly confess to him? His best friend wants to date him and Y/N, why is this so hard to fathom? Wonpil has always had different ideas, but this is a conflicting idea.
Unfortunately for Mr. Park, class was starting and he needed to focus on Shakespeare rather than the fact his friend has a crush on him. That's just what he did, taught the real meaning of Macbeth with the lingering thought of a poly relation stuck in his brain.
Mr. Kim walked to his class, the second period of the day, quickly he put a happy-to-be-here face on instead of the dear-god-what-did-I-do face then walked into class like nothing happened. All of his students were sitting down, talking amongst each other as they were waiting for Mr. Kim to start teaching.
"Good morning class," Wonpils soft voice spoke up.
He walked over to his desk, picking up an attendance binder getting prepared to check who's there. One by one, he called out the student's name, all of them replying with a monotone here. When he got to your name, his breath hitched, he tried to play it off so the class wouldn't realize it. Looking around the room he saw you, writing in a notebook, with your head down. Nonetheless, you said here just so he would continue class.
After that, the class went by like a breeze for Mr. Kim. The impending doom of talking to Mr. Park gushed through him, but the whole period Mr. Kim thought of one thing. You. Just in that moment, he saw how depraved and gloomy you were. The bell rang, students got up with their friends walking out of class without a care in the world. Mr. Kim took this as an opportunity to talk to you, just to make sure you were okay since you've been gone.
"Miss L/N, may I see you for a minute," his voice sounded so small, but yet it hit you like a brick.
You mentally sighed to yourself, this is what you've been dreading for the last two days. Yet, you knew it had to happen at some point, this needs to be addressed whether it was ideal or not.
"Mr. Kim," you smiled, with a hint of falseness. "What can I do for you?"
"Y/N," he softly spoke, watching the last kid walk out of the classroom. Swiftly, Wonpil shut the door so your conversation would be at the least bit private. "How are you doing with...everything?"
"I'm fine," you lied, and certainly it didn't fool Mr. Kim.
"Look, we need to talk-"
"Mr. Kim," you interrupted, internally freaking out. "I-I don't wanna get expelled or get Mr. Park fired, so please, I'm begging you don't tell anyone."
Mr. Kim leaned back on his desk, arms crossing in the process. Only one thing came out of his mouth, one simple question.
"Do you regret it?"
At first, you were taken aback at the sudden question. Was this some sort of test Mr. Kim was doing, if you said yes would he report you? But this is Mr. Kim we're talking about, as you got to know him you realized there truly isn't a bad bone in his body. He couldn't hurt a fly even if he wanted to.
You answered back, hoping he wouldn't get you expelled. "No, I don't think so."
Wonpil's jaw clenched, a bit of anger bubbling through him, he could see your whimsical expression as you were reminded of the kiss. It's written all over your face, you liked Mr. Park. You took into notice at the sudden shift in the aura, Mr. Kim was tapping his foot aggressively.
"Mr. Kim, I'm sorry! Nothings going to happen, nothing at all! So please don't-"
"Damnit Y/N!" Mr. Kim yelled, instantly shutting you up, he was frazzled and he couldn't seem to handle it.
Handle these emotions he has, the love, the joy, the anger, the jealously...This was not something he's ever experienced in his adult life, and he's feeling stupid for it.
"You like Mr. Park," he said, more in a statement way. He rubbed his head, carefully picking out his next move. Suddenly he was reminded of the conversation with Jae earlier, an idea lit up in his head. "What about me?"
"Huh," you muttered out, wide-eyed at the unexpected question.
"Y/N," Mr. Kim flashed his puppy eyes, unconsciously. "Do you like me...like you like Mr. Park?"
His eyes almost pleaded for a yes to come out of your mouth. For some reason, your mouth went dry. What exactly was happening?
"Mr. Kim," you started, but Mr. Kim already had you by the waist. Pulling you into his chest with a gentle tug, his hand gripped you softly around your tiny waist. He looked down at you, with passion in his eyes, anticipating that you answer.
"I like you, even though it's...wrong...I like you Y/N."
As you gazed into Wonpil's eyes, trying to make up the confession he just gave. Mr. Park had come to Mr. Kim's room to finish their conversation from earlier, only to be met with him holding you, confessing to you, leaning into you, kissing you...That was the moment Jae got it, he understood why Wonpil mentioned a poly relationship.

Note
I found this in chapter 56 and I thought it was kinda interesting. While Zen is comforting Shirayuki as she's crying, Mitsuhide says,"But this is about Zen and Shirayuki. I don't think this sudden distance is a big problem. It's not like being apart would cause their existence to become smaller in each other's lives." Maybe it's foreshadowing they will separate? What are your thoughts on this? Do you think ObiYuki still has a chance or is it just the author toying with us?
hi anon!!  ( ̄ω ̄)
Short answer:
Yes, Whoaboy get ready I have some THOUGHTS, YESS!! and No.
I have been sitting on this ask for a long time sorry for le wait
The vast majority of this post is below the cut. I hope it is not too much / addresses what you meant.
Here are some notes before I subject whoever reads this to my madness:
These little moments of “It’s okay to do what you want to do” always strike me, and I think about them when I’m considering Zen v Obi endgame because it opens up the possibility that things can change.
Yes it’s a shojo and shojo protagonists tend to stick with their initial love interest... blah blah blah. I don’t think this preconceived notion of how shojo manga ‘always goes’ is a valid point anymore.
So .... I think the comments we are both thinking of usually refer to Shirayuki’s Path and how she must be able to Stand By Zen’s Side as an Ally, etc. So I’ll kind of be thinking of this from the angle of a Journey.
Everything discussed is also after The Play We Believe is Foreshadowing (except for the panels pulled from ch 9 and 20) which I think should be considered for the context of the plot.
If it is actually foreshadowing for an eventual Obi & Shirayuki story arc -- which tbh we might be in the midst of (currently) at ch 117 without realizing it -- then it’s relevant to how we frame the comments made afterwards. At the end of the day, Akizuki-sensei is an author. She is telling us a story. I think it’s reasonable to seek out clues to foreshadowing in fictional stories. So I’m operating under a 90% certainty that the play is foreshadowing.
I have found that the best (fictional) stories are ones that have been planned carefully. I have no way of verifying if AnS has been so precisely crafted to weave in so much foreshadowing that we speculate over, but damn it sure feels like it was.
The manga was originally just the first chapter, so we can assume that after writing that chapter and deciding to make it into a series, there was some planning done.
ANyway............... strong speculation ahead. I think I was ~60% thorough in my search to find material relevant to Foreshadowing of a Separation.
Please enjoy!
1) So we’ll start with a panel from ch 9,
where Zen is considering his relationship with Shirayuki and his growing crush.
Tumblr media
This panel is, as stated above, part of the story that Akizuki expanded on after the original one-shot. In the first chapter, we get a lot of cute fate-chitchat between Zen and Shirayuki, but I think -- after deciding to continue the story -- Akizuki changed the tone to allow for more character development, and to challenge the Fate tropes often seen in romance.
Thus, the statement above from Zen that they may not always be together.
foreshadowing ?!   ( ˙▿˙ )
___________________________
2) In Chapter 28,
we have the crew essentially saying they are all growing stronger for the sake of each other, and lending their strength as needed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Within the story, Akizuki-sensei has established a theme of moving forward and changing as needed as a way to get stronger.
Mitsuhide says this to Shirayuki, also in Ch 28:
Tumblr media
Why .... does Mitsuhide look so serious as he says this to her? Is he reconciling the fact that Shirayuki and Zens paths may diverge at some point, as they do for the Lyrias arc?
He follows up the above statement with:
Tumblr media
He goes on to say,
“I want you to follow your heart so you can stand on your own wherever Zen takes you.”
So... maybe that context takes away some of the significance for fellow lovers of AnS. But I don’t think we should just ignore the statement.
I think she’s being given permission to change her mind; that it’s okay for her to have feelings for Zen, but it’s also okay if she chooses to end things. Mitsuhide will support her either way.
Even though the the full remark still has to do with Zen, she is being encouraged to stand on her own. She is her own person. She has friends who will still be there even if she chooses something different from what people expect of her.
In this case -- pertaining to AnS as a whole, from the perspective of everyone who ‘knows’ about ZenYuki in-story and also (meta!) the manga readers -- Shirayuki is expected to someday marry Zen.
After this, in Chapter 29, Izana is a bit derisive to Shirayuki after she gets the title from Tanbarun. I think his comments are intentionally made to make her uncomfortable. He says,
“Hahahaha! What an unusual title! Amazing!”
- cue confusion from Zen and Shirayuki -
“I wasn’t poking fun at it, it’s just a bit strange. Hmm... before, I said a nobody like her at your side would sully your name, Zen, but with this you can be friends without any such worry, right?
“Shirayuki, I’ve never asked what kind of relationship you want to have with Zen. And I don’t know if it’s something that can be said.”
Alrighty. So. Izana says in front of Shirayuki that he had described her as a nobody. This seems like something said meant to disquiet her, and her initial reaction is, “taken aback,” so we can safely say it was at least temporarily disconcerting for her to hear. I imagine it’s hurtful to hear you were once thought of as someone unworthy of notice.
Don’t get me wrong, I think most of what Izana says and does is in relatively good faith. I think the fandom has come to a general conclusion that he’s testing their relationship.
Obi finds her in the early morning and he notices that she’s upset, commenting that she’s making a strange face. She is still thinking about what Izana said, and Obi asks,
“Is it about the path you want to take?”
“....No. It’s that I haven’t given it any thought.”
Zen already wishes (though I don’t think he’s explicitly stated it the way he does later in ch 33) to marry Shirayuki, and we see her here facing emotional turmoil because that part of her future isn’t something she has thought about yet. Interesting, to say the least.
Tumblr media
I’m not really sure about this, but it seems like she either means where Zen is taking her and / or where she can stand on her own.
And then .......
“Obi, will you lend me a hand?”
“Didn’t I tell you before that I’ll take you wherever you want to go?”
This part of the story is still heavy ZenYuki, but I think Obi saying this to her right now is significant. Akizuki has repeatedly weaved Shirayuki’s path into the themes of the story so far, while contrasting that Zen will meet her at her destination, while Obi will be at her side for the journey.
Zen and Shirayuki meet and talk. They basically address that Shirayuki doesn’t really know what the future holds, but that she still wants to stand by his side, and says that even though he’s a prince she wants to think it’s okay for her to feel that way.
You almost forget about the significance of Obi and Shirayuki’s relationship when it’s followed up by this ZenYuki scene. I wonder about the aforementioned nature-of-planning involved in the story and the future of the characters at this point.
gnah how did this post get so long already
___________________________
3) Zen has presumably given his blessing for Obi to be happy in love
In chapter 31, while the group is stranded outside Wistal due to rain, Zen and Obi are in the bath talking about the possibility of Kiki and Mitsuhide getting married.
“It’s fine with me as long as they can say that they’re happy. I intend to make sure of that.”
“You’ll make sure of that?”
“The same applies to you too, Obi.”
More foreshadowing? Presently it seems that the MitsuKiki ship has sunk, so contrasting this conversation to current-manga-events is titillating to me. ESPECIALLY because Zen says that he wants to make sure Obi is happy when Zen knows how Obi feels about Shirayuki. So it’s established that they will support one another as friends.
Later, Kiki and Mitsuhide are talking after dinner and discuss how the nature of Zen and Shirauki’s friendship never changes (that’s the impression I got from it). Mitsuhide recalls when he and Zen talked about the same thing:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think what Kiki and Mitsuhide are referring to is that Zen and Shirayuki have made a conscious effort to become friends despite the barriers they’ve encountered so far, by way of them showing the strength of their mutual respect and desire to aid one another. I get a similar feel from the conversation between Zen and Mitsuhide.
And then .....
“The two of us will always be friends.”
ahem
Zen saying this -- in context to everything from the past four chapters -- implies that Zen is okay if their relationship is not romantic. If it is true that the mangas plot was deliberately planned out, these chapters will become increasingly interesting to look back on as the plot progresses.
The direction of the story has changed since then if we are only looking at the big turning point of Mitsuhide rejecting Kiki.
And despite that rejection, the group is still a group despite their physical distance.
___________________________
Brief note to say that in Ch 33 Izana says to Zen,
“Let me be an ally as you and Shirayuki follow your own path.”
While this is a ZenYuki comment, I see it as Akizuki reinforcing that each character is following their own path and they will be supported as they do.
___________________________
3.5) After this point is the first Lyrias arc,
where obiyuki shippers are starting to salivate over how much is packed in just for their relationship. I mean .... remember when she pushed him to the ground because she thought he would get hit by snow? And he gives her those moony eyes just like it didn’t stop ... my heart
UGH JUST SAYING IT BECAUSE context! Shirayuki’s path is changing slowly, and Obi is still by her side.
___________________________
4) A period of transition
I think this is around the time the Bergatt arc is actually beginning, leading up even to current-manga-events.
In Chapter 53
And thus, they head towards the path that a new wind blows upon.
The times are changing.
While Shirayuki is preparing for her and Ryuu’s move to Lyrias, Zen and co. are at Wilant meeting with Haruto, who describes fools aiming to throw the country into turmoil. This is a seed for the plot that develops, ie, the Bergatt arc that was not actually resolved when Touka gets taken down at Sereg in ch (?) 86. I bring this up because I think it shows the level of planning that Akizuki has put into the story at this point.
In chapter 55, after Shirayuki has finally been able to tell Zen she’ll be away from Wistal for 2 years, and they have this conversation (slightly paraphrased) after he’s processed for a short time:
Zen -
“Sorry. The fact that you would be leaving the castle was something that I’d never considered. So my reaction was a little slow.
“I’ll hear it. I’m sure there was more you wanted to say.”
Shirayuki -
“I’m really glad that I got to meet you and come to the castle! I’m where I am now because I wanted to become Zen’s ally; and i achieved that by coming to the castle and becoming a royal pharmacist.
“I’m sure that, like how it’s always been, there’s something ahead connecting to my path now. That’s why, because there’s a place I have yet to go, I want to be there.”
This is Zen’s face after she says the above:
Tumblr media
What is he thinking? Is he worried about their romantic relationship? I interpret it as preemptive disappointment that they may not stay together.
Shortly after we get to the point you made in your ask (sweet anon) re ch 56 with Mitsuhides comment. This adds to the reinforced theme that change is okay and they will all still be friends and allies regardless of where life takes them.
BUT IMMEDIATELY AFTER Mitsuhide says that in reference to Zen and Shirayuki, Obi responds:
Tumblr media
Is Akizuki drawing a parallel between MitsuKiki and ZenYuki? No idea. maybe. But somehow I do not find it coincidental.
This seems like a MitsuKiki hint, meant to fuel the ultra-shippable pair that we all loved... but after the rejected proposal, it’s hard not to see the whole situation differently re: zenyuki / obiyuki and mitsukiki / hisakiki.
Then the first true ObiYuki hug, and this:
“It feels as though Obi might suddenly appear in Lyrias!”
girl you already knew. Shirayuki knows that Obi will follow her.
Obi deliberately postpones going to Lyrias, though, in order to consider his feelings for Shirayuki and how to tell Zen.
Then!! in 58-59 we get long-awaited confirmation from Obi that he has feelings for Shirayuki, and after this beautiful moment Obi goes to Lyrias to be at Shirayuki’s side, and after everything that has happened so far that is a clincher for me regarding our beloved Foreshadowing.
While discussing Obi’s crush on Shirayuki, Obi asks Zen
“Aren’t you going to propose?”
“.......................Well, I’m.. making her .. wait.”
“Master ... I don’t recommend postponing it, you know.”
I wonder about this comment. Is this a clue for us that Zen postponing engagement is going to be a negative thing in the future?
idk maybe ╮( ̄ω ̄)╭
Either way ........ This transition period, in between Lyrias 1 and 2, shows us that the story is changing.
___________________________
I have definitely not covered all of the possible moments of foreshadowing and am actually going to leave off on that topic for the time being. I might do a part 2 as its own post.
But for now I will switch to previously mentioned point that...
5) Obi and Shirayuki’s paths are walked together
I think the following two panels are a great way to frame their relationship. Chapter 20 in early Tanbarun arc:
Tumblr media
And then, much later in chapter 106 as they stand by the fire and Shirayuki tells Obi he’s handsome in the light:
Tumblr media
“... because you come with me.” ( ╥ω╥ )
And then more delightful talk from chapter 104 that I think is ... gasp
foreshadowing !!!!!
They are having this discussion after they’ve found out about Kiki becoming engaged to Hisame.
Tumblr media
“It’s necessary to have the courage to make a decision and take a step down that path, isn’t it?”
Shirayuki is possibly saying this due to the implications of Kiki’s letter. Kiki has made the choice to take a new path from the one she had been on by marrying Hisame.
So what about Shirayuki’s journey? Has her growth led her to a path she didn’t expect, and now it will take courage to step down it?
In recent chapters Shirayuki is shown to be seeing Obi differently and as a man:
overhearing him calling her beautiful and being surprised that he is embarrassed she heard
witnessing him going to a marriage meeting
that little moment where he is holding her wrist as a Lyrias knight tells him that the knights sister wishes him luck in love
the firelight comment oh my god
realizing she lost the pin Obi gave her and tearing up as she literally stared at him; upset that the gift she cherished is now missing and potentially realizing how very dear to her Obi actually is
fake dating and the 10 seconds of ... just... I still cant even
Obi is the one who is by Shirayuki’s side. They developed a bond through years friendship that is now being reframed by Akizuki. The nature of their relationship has been slowly changing and I think we approaching a time in the manga where Shirayuki will realize it.
___________________________
To answer your last question ... I do think ObiYuki has a chance and I do not think the author is just toying with us. I’ve talked a lot about my ObiYuki Endgame feels in previous posts/asks. I could probably talk about it forever but this post is absurdly long .... sorry
Thank you so much for the ask! and wow thank you so much if you actually read this whole thing!

Wrong - EARTHQUAKE
Pairing: F!Reader x AdoptedBrother!Jungkook
Genre: Fluff/Angst
Warnings: Language
Tumblr media
<ABISM                                                                      AFTERSHOCK>
"You're positive it was JungKook? Our JungKook?" NamJoon asked for the fifth time in the night, as you two made your way to the bar after your workday was done. You sighed tiredly, hopping on a stool at the counter and signaling for the bartender to give you your usual - a shot of tequila and a lemon juice as follow up - before turning to your best friend, nodding heavily.
"I'm sure it was Jeon JungKook, not our JungKook." You rolled your eyes, throat burning even before the shot had even arrived. It had been a huge shock seeing the man that was once part of your daily life and disappeared without much trace - well, what the media didn't release at least - back, and as your employer, to top.
"I don't see the difference, he's still your broth-"
You cut him off with a sharp gesture, turning forward to where your drink was being served. "He's not my brother, he has made that very clear, Joon. A long time ago, when he abandoned me after turning twenty-one."
That made NamJoon hesitate before speaking, as he asked the bartender for a beer.
"Y/N, I think you should use that opportunity to talk... I'm sure there are things you two haven't said to each other," he tried and you groaned while kicking your head back, the tequila doing its job by burning your digestive system. You sure had a thing or two to say to him, but it seemed like JungKook was pretty much done with your relationship so maybe it was better to left some things unsaid.
NamJoon sighed at your lack of response. At the same time, you understood why he tried so fiercely to reunite you all since it had been such a violent break for everyone and all he had was you and his little sister, which by the way would be turning eighteen soon.
Oh no a birthday. My birthday! You suddenly realized, palm meeting your forehead with a great smack, startling even the man by your side, the cup of beer hanging midway to his puckered lips.
"I made a mistake, Joon. Of all days, he should know this and I fell right into his trap!"
                          ------------------------------------------------
"You're probably reading too much into this," NamJoon tried to say but you glared his way, phone pressed to your ear as you spoke to Mou after you called her to explain the situation.
"I'm so sorry, I've talked to Jeon's secretary and it seems the only available day for this meeting is that Tuesday." Mou hummed at the other side of the line and you whimpered, downing your third shot of the night.
"Okay Mou, I'll suck it up then, but if there's any change please-"
"Don't worry sweetie, I'll try a change of schedule for you. Y/N..." Your friend hesitated before speaking, her voice dropping the volume and you breathed out, imagining what she would ask next. "Is NamJoon with you right now?" You could barely hold off looking to the side at the friend who was currently working his charms on a random girl some tables to the right. It wasn't that NamJoon didn't know about Mou, he did but there wasn't much anyone could do besides looking like a jackass - and mayhaps sometimes playing the part too well, was the girl from the hickey anything to go by. Mou had a difficult situation relationship-wise and Joon could like her back all she wanted, but in the end, it wouldn't work out. Besides, she chose to not talk to him to avoid making things worse. As if she wasn't falling for him harder by the day. In all, everyone had some complicated situation on their table.
"Yes, I'm having a drink because I'm stressed, I'll be back soon to my apartment and maybe we can talk better then?" You chanced, eyes glued to the floor to avoid warning NamJoon of something. He was a good guy and would most times leave so you could talk with your friend - most times about him - but at that moment you needed his company. Agreeing to call you in a couple of hours, Mou hung up and you turned to NamJoon, which was displaying a very sympathetic - and rather cute you had to admit - smile to yet another woman walking by, which made you snort.
"Where you got all those moves, Joon? I almost feel uncomfortable," you joked, punching his arm lightly. He turned to you rolling his eyes, nonchalant as if he hadn't turned - basically in the blink of an eye or at least since you two graduated college - a fine man, that could most of the time pass as awkward, but once anyone heard him speak, there was this immediate enchantment to him. A charm.
"Good, 'cause I'm not trying to woo you," he mocked back and you made a face of disgust, stealing his mug and giving a chug to the already warm beer. It was probably a bad decision to mix drinks like that but you were having a bad day and apparently, you'd be working on your birthday, so why not just take a sick day ahead and get wasted? It seemed proper. It's the first time I've seen my ex-brother - fuck, how it hurts to think like that - in three years and seems like he still hates me while I...
"You know there's a probability that he doesn't remember," NamJoon hummed beside you, chugging the rest of his beverage after snatching his cup back. You frowned, suddenly not getting what he was talking about. "Your birthday, I mean. JungKook may not even care."
At that you snickered, perching your chin on your hand. "Whoa, how reassuring of you, Joonie. Sure hurts less than to think he's doing that on purpose just to make me suffer on my birthday," you quipped but was also glad that he was saying it, so you would ease up a bit on your paranoia. It wasn't as if JungKook was after you, anyways.
"You know that's not quite how I meant it, Y/N. I just want you to stop worrying about this since it's your job on the line too." NamJoon sighed and you could see his point quite clearly. Wouldn't do you any good to dwell on this for long, since it was job-related. You couldn't let a personal matter into it.
                             ---------------------------------
That's why you just let the days go by, till the fateful Tuesday came around.
As you woke up, your phone was already filled with messages and emails - mostly promotional newsletters, and you should unsubscribe from a lot of them - wishing you a happy birthday and all, your closest-ish friends confirming their presence for, later on, the little gathering after work the only redeeming event of that dreadful day.
You tried to not think about it yet but as you showered, it was unavoidable to wonder what would be best to wear for the meeting, very aware that your go-to slightly sensual - but highly professional - attire was off-bounds. Sure, Mr. Park would be there and it worked beautifully in the first meeting you had before his company was bought - at that time you had another team leader too, so you were just there for eye candy, just like you were bringing TaeHyung for - but that was off the table since your, ahem, former brother was there too. It just felt wrong for some reason.
So deciding for another tactic, you chose something more high class to wear - since you'd be going to a building that wouldn't allow you stepping in the lobby if you weren't looking like you co-owned at least two companies - and decided to go by Jin's patisserie and grab his famous doughnut holes as a sweet treat, reminded that NamJoon brought a bag of them the other day and thinking at least JiMin would enjoy them.
"You're looking so grown-up today Y/N," TaeHyung commented as you waited for your car to arrive just outside Jin's, where you asked him to meet you. You scoffed, lowering the coffee cup he had bought you.
"I don't know what you mean, I am a grown-up - at least it's what my little cousins say," you quipped playfully, watching him snicker cutely into his cup of hot chocolate, which you would call him out later on.
"No, what I mean is that you look like a future-you, successful in all aspects of your life and..." He trailed off, looking away as if a little shy, prompting you to tilt your head in wonder.
"And...?" You pressed, finding his nervous expression something unusual on him. Usually, TaeHyung was a cheerful guy, reliable worker and you'd even go as far as calling him cute. Of course, he was the same age as you, but the description fits him well.
"I was going to say well-married to a successful guy, but thought that might offend you since you look very independent all the time, you know."
"It's kinda flattering the way you think of me actually," you smiled at him, getting a shy smile back. "Though yes, I'd like to get married someday but only after achieving all the other stuff." Chuckling, you bumped his shoulder lightly, taking another sip of your coffee.
"Oh, so there's still hope, huh?" You head him say as you turned to look at your phone once more, slightly concerned that the company's car would make you late to the meeting. Not today, please... Wait, what did TaeHyung say?
"Wh-"
Before you could ask him what he was on about, an expensive-looking car smoothly came to a stop right beside you, a cheerful man shouting your name across the other side, window rolled down. "You should be Miss Y/L/N, as the boss told me!" He spoke with a smile as you leaned down to the door to talk to him.
"Boss? Mr. Min YoonGi?" You chanced, wondering if YoonGi did own a car like that and if he would be kind enough to dismiss the company's car service - because you were well aware they didn't use those kinds of cars - and 'borrow' his.
"What? No, I mean Mr. Jeon. He asked to pick you at the company, but you weren't there. Good thing a friend of yours knew your location, though." You licked your lips, suddenly nervous. Jeon JungKook sent someone to fetch you? "So, shall we go?" He asked, and you jolted with a startle, glancing at TaeHyung that didn't seem to be much phased about the whole thing. Sure, he had no idea of your past with JungKook. NamJoon, on the other hand, would probably have a stroke. Or maybe you were exaggerating and had to check yourself.
Inside the car was sorta normal, but at the same time all-too-much like JungKook, the way he liked dark colors and cool appliances and his smell. The whole interior smelled like him and your heart was doing somersaults thinking about that.
"Seems like you made a good impression at that pre-meeting, huh?" TaeHyung whispered, bumping your elbow to call your attention. You chanced a smile back at him, shrugging.
"Mr. Park may have asked to do this out of kindness. We've worked with his company for some years, so..."
The driver snickered softly in front of you, drawing your attention to him, eyes meeting through the rear mirror. "Oh, I'm sorry miss, I didn't want to sound rude. It's just that Mr. Jeon asked me personally to fetch you and, sincerely, he doesn't do that to anybody. I'm his most personal driver."
At that information, you could only utter a tiny exclamation, something that the man sitting beside you must had thought amusing if his smile was any indication. It didn't matter at all that JungKook had sent his chauffeur instead of a regular one from the company. And that you were the one he'd ever do that for.
Maybe he was just trying to throw you off your game, intimidate you in some way? It sounded insane even in your head.
                            ---------------------------------
If anything, Park JiMin was a very pleasant man, most of all the best client ever and you were very sorry to have to work with anyone but him when it came to that beauty company.
"Ah Miss Y/L/N! On-time as always!" he chirped, getting up from the secretary's table where he had been probably waiting for your arrival, straightening his well-tailored dark grey suit before extending his hands to take yours in warm greeting. You smiled at him genuinely happy to see him, before introducing TaeHyung, that looked almost shy on the presence of JiMin, which whatever height he might lack - he was taller than you either way -, his charisma made up for it. So much that you even let yourself delusion that he was actually a friend and was currently wondering if it was okay to invite him for the later gathering in your apartment. Maybe that's a little too far, Y/N.
"I've brought you some treats to, you know, sweeten the deal we'll make," you motioned to the bag of patisserie hanging on your arm, that immediately caught the auburn-haired man, his little chuckling to your bad joke making your face warm.
"Then that probably came in a good time," he started, expression falling just a little as he looked up and sighed. "Today's not a good day for my partner as you will see when we arrive at the meeting room, so maybe those will ease his mood a bit." JiMin ran his fingers through his hair, the soft locks falling back to their place in beautiful waves and parting in the middle, revealing his forehead. At the mention of the other man you'd be meeting, your blood ran cold, heart racing as you glanced at TaeHyung that seemed quite calm, glancing around the floor. "But don't worry, I gather is something personal so I'm sure he won't let that interfere in our appointment."
You smiled tightly in an attempt to show that you weren't so worried about whatever the new owner of JiMin's company could be going through and started walking right beside him when his palm smoothly pulled your arm in guidance. Yet, the only thing in your head was that you were the only personal matter Jeon could be annoyed with. That, given he did recall your birthday too.
--------------------------------- As promised, Jeon JungKook was pissy once the three of you arrived at the room, frowning expression barely smoother before getting up to greet everyone. You couldn't help swallowing dryly when he squeezed your hand, trying not to look him in the eyes but failing upon feeling his burning gaze on your face. Truly a threat to your professionalism.
Still, the meeting went as smoothly as it could, with barely any interruptions to your presentation - TaeHyung also managing to respectfully take some points and answer their questions even as a trainee on the team - and minimal changes to the whole project, which would be put to processing the next week. It had been the most you've spoken to Jeon in three years.
His mood, on the other hand, was still a little sour even if he had, by himself, finished all the doughnut holes you've brought, which clearly had made him a little more agreeable. JungKook had always been snackish, that was a fact.
In the end, the deal was made, but when you got up from your seat with a relieved sigh to greet both men in front of you goodbye, never would guess that your hand would be held tighter by no less than Jeon JungKook, hesitant eyes looking back at your utterly surprised and confused expression.
"Uh," he started, licking his lips in what you would understand as nervousness, breathing in quickly. "What about we all go to celebrate?" And then JungKook grinned expectantly, glancing from you to Jimin, which had his eyes trained to Jeon's hands still holding yours before snapping back to reality.
"Well, we could surely... Oh wait, this is the first deal you've ever closed!" And then JiMin turned to you with a bright, gleeful face. "We should definitely celebrate, it's JungKook's first deal and your great work today! What do you say?" The puppy that was Park JiMin yapped happily and so excitedly that saying no would certainly feel like you had just kicked the pup. Looking at TaeHyung for some sort of support - he'd been so talkative when it came to explaining the digital stuff and now had closed off again you wanted to kill him - but only got a shrug in response. It was up to you to decide, how nice.
"I'll give a call to our boss, see if he doesn't have anything else to work on." You said, knowing quite well the only appointment for the day was that meeting but hoping that YoonGi came up with something last minute.
No such luck.
So as you waited for the partners to organize everything and check their schedule - fingers crossed for unavoidable appointment-, you decided to text NamJoon about the matter, quickly letting him know you'd probably be late for the party but that he could, as always, let himself in with his spare key.
"Hope we didn't interrupt any plans with your boyfriend," JiMin popped in beside you, positively making you jolt in surprise, hand to your chest as you chuckled.
"No, NamJoon isn't- And it's just a small party later on, I was just..." For some reason, you couldn't find a way to explain properly and ease his worries, even more, when Jeon was also walking up to you three, gaze always on you.
And as if you had prompted him to, TaeHyung gasped in surprise, eyes wide as he touched your shoulder. "Right, today's your birthday as well!" He exclaimed loud and clear, prompting your cheeks to burn and the need to punch him felt practically unbearable. Now he decides to speak?!
"Congratulations are due, I see!" Ripping away your glare from TaeHyung that had the nerve to look guilty after practically yelling at the company about anything else that not an emergency, you turned to JiMin and his bright smile to thank him for the good wishes. JungKook was also smiling, looking even pleased for your awkwardness.
"All the more reason to celebrate then, don't you agree, Miss Y/L/N?" He asked with a hum, expression just a tiny bit defiant and smug. What could you say? No? Impossible. So with an inner sigh, you only nodded meekly.
"Great, I'm paying then. Shall we go?" JiMin grinned, extending his arm to you, always the gentleman. Giggling you humored him, linking your arm to his as he guided you to the elevator, taking the front. If there was a good thing on this whole mess, it was Park JiMin.

An old knowledge with ties back when humanity couldn't trace says that when a child laughs for the first time, a new fairy is born. Back when the first humans came to be, once their hearts bloomed with genuine joy, fairies followed their path and helped their surroundings grow along with their smiles. Water fairies purified their rivers and those of light have sown the sun into rays falling from the sky to give humans guidance and brighten their circles. Gentle braids of blossom that they called flowers started rising from fertile soil and frost dusted the tops of the mountains where fairies flew to give colour to this world.
As much as humans depended on fairies, the same could be said from the other perspective: with fairies learning new ways to care for the world and building routines often broken by events impossible to imagine for those who kept an axis of seasons and light. Many curiosities have arisen in young minds but humans meeting their helpers was rarer than the eclipses or red auroras that were painted for them. Despite that, sprinkles of magic still caressed heads on pillows and brought consciences along the path of pleasant dreams.
Eras have passed and happiness took different forms, yet no matter the timeline, they all kept the same core belief. Fairies were shaped by the experience of euphoria, and laughter trailed after them in their early stages with the same purity and open heart they were created from.
Yoongi doesn't know what kind of laughter lightning must have struck the child who made you appear, but he's sure that wherever they are, that baby must have had some future sight and is having a field day with watching him interact with the bane of his existence. That's what must have caused the laughter, unforeseen circumstances that no fairy kingdom ruler or human scientist could have explained, because you were too out of this world for him to explain otherwise.
Well, you or your head, that is.
If his house branch sharer Namjoon, fawn fairy extraordinaire also held residence in Yoongi’s head where dramatic monologues were played more ardently than those on a slow roll of a film, he might’ve reprimanded Yoongi, stomped on his dreams and overall existence by telling him you were not so bad. Or worse, tell him that he’s exaggerating and that this grudge he’s holding over you has no place on moral grounds like those where fairies existed in.
Ok, fine. Maybe he was being a little dramatic. Blame it on his nature, on the talent he was born under, or just pin it under the mentorship of Rosetta, head garden fairy and symbol of house behaviour. It is her fault that garden fairies are thought to have a stuck-up reputation, therefore many are surprised when they meet the other fairies with the same talent, like sweet Jimin, who bared resemblance with the snowdrops he carefully bloomed every spring season.
Yoongi doesn’t mind the reputation, might even be true in his case. He’d like not to be approached. It sounded about festive right now.
But eternal life doesn’t go the way we want it to, honeydew, Rosetta’s words ring into his head, pushing aside the unfinished monologue still tapping at the back of his head. There might be some truth to that, as no one would wish to share her experiences of being dragged in the mud and stuck in a carriage hundred times their size in The Mainland. Yoongi shudders, the roses in his hair rattling with the rhythm of his vibration.
Still, he wishes he could sleep in a hollow deep enough for fate to spare him the responsibility just this day. And the following one. And the next season, until autumn comes in and he gets to do what he has been meaning to all this time. See, another reason why he loathes being assigned on spring, besides having no way out of meeting with you. His conscience finds itself pouring magic dust on the monologue which takes the spotlight as it returns, and fine, he is exaggerating. You were not a bad person. Ahem. Fairy.
Not a bad fairy.
In a sense, he knows that he can’t deal with you due to the differences in your kind and how you stood out from his perceptions. By nature you lacked tints of responsibility and regard for every other living creature, not for the fact that you chose not to care but you just forgot. Whatever the consequences were, you had no mind for those either: you were more inclined to brush them off and continue on with your duties, excuses and pretences of living in the present almost synonymous with your name. Yoongi had a word for that: human.
From what he learned about humans and their characteristics, you were eerily similar, it scared him sometimes. Only on the inside, where he liked to keep any thought which could give you an advantage over him. The first ‘oh well, I forgot’ from you in his presence brought a month’s drought on the eastern region and a near heart attack from Yoongi, while your first ‘oops’ stuttered with the most radiant smile followed after gentle, idiotic Namjoon trusted you with leading a lost mandarin duck and ending up on the other side of the world with it.
Although the similarities don’t make him lose his balance and fall face-down on bulbs nowadays, you’re still a constant surprise. Might be due to the fact that you are so far from the usual fairies he interacts with, preferring to stay away from fast-flying fairies and their tempers. Those often found him with his tongue prodding at his cheek, snarky remarks growing in his head like forest fungus but blocked as they glide closer towards his mouth. Might be due to the fact that you’re the fastest fairy he’s ever seen, speed intertwining with such positivity and enthusiasm that Yoongi is sure you could circle the world before it grinned sunset if you wished.
You were so far off what he had expected and all over the place that he used to hear about you only in emergency situations, wandering around with desires of helping and without a department, carrying every task your kind couldn’t. Not even Vidia, made of dark purple, confidence and sarcasm stepped up in times of crisis quite like you did.
Current crisis? Yoongi himself. At least that’s what he thinks, because he couldn’t explain your visits otherwise without shame dusting pretty cheeks pink.
Meeting with other fairies, it often left him on edge, small changes he would make picking apart at his brain and tightening inside his chest, scared of lashing out at others but obviously uncomfortable. Fairies needed routine, moves not missing the smallest element, but mistakes were prone: a package here, a honeysuckle with its vines intertwined there–one second of not paying attention and no one was doing things the way he wanted. And oh, how aware he was of it but how futile were his attempts to control his fixation as it ate away at his will to express it.
More often than not, the means of speaking up forced his heart into erratic pounds, coming down from the interactions drained and exhausting every resource in his body. He wishes for quiet, for slumber into tulip petals, wishes the warm wind breezed through the static air, widening the space between his fingers. Like now. Pixie dust stars fall upon his ground with you getting closer, and your grip on the strap loosens, the leaf cover of the pouch now held gently by your palm. He recognises the sensation without bringing his focus into it, the breeze that changes the direction of the heat and instead of descent, it’s brought into a spiral that surrounds the being.
But then your mouth opens.
“Ten bowls of clay, taken straight from under the sunlight,” you beam as you drop the luggage down, crouching to detangle the cover. Used to hearing the fairy’s instructions, you waste no time to put the items one over the other, bending to in your arms. Yoongi stares at you with his mouth open, and for once the shock in his eyes has a pleasant warmth rising the corners of your smile.
“Are you sure you can handle that?” Yoongi says slowly, syllables forming in reluctance as he watches the pile grow until it reaches your chin. It's going to fall.
“Of course, of course, I got it, just give me some space so I can move.”
His heart starts to pick up the pace at your mismatched steps, part of him wondering why didn’t you just fly over? Hello? He’d love to have the time to judge your transportation choices more, but his instincts kick in as his eyes land right on one bowl slipping from under your chin. It will fall.
He moves faster than his thought, diving to catch it, but he is no wind person and ends up hanging in the air, wings pulling his weight with shame as he finds himself face to face with the fallen bowl levitating in front of him.
“You think I’m some sort of fool, Min Yoongi?” you reprimand and the pixie dust you used on the items seems to form its usual sparkle, mocking his attempts. “All you do is nag me about getting flower paint on your precious cutlery. I can’t begin to imagine what would happen if I broke one of these limited edition bowls. What do you do with these anyway.”
He doesn’t even have the brain to be offended, questions about your word choices puzzling him and setting a fog over the remains of his previous scare. “Limited edition?”
What the hell.
“Well, of course,” you say as if Yoongi truly is some fool, and truly doesn’t know anything. “You think Jungkook likes playing with dirt?”
“Isn’t that what he always does?” Jungkook, that talented, curious and awful, awful tinker fairy who lived to torment him as well, Yoongi was sure Jungkook said this to you so you could rub it in his face.
“Yoongi! You know he has more important business, trying to decipher all this lost stuff. Tinkerbell never lets him breathe.”
Ah yes, the lost stuff, Yoongi recalls. The pieces of plastic with strobes of wires and organised circuits. He grimaces thinking of where those could have come from.
“Very fun,” he says despite himself, sarcasm dripping at the end of his mouth. “You were gone for a long time. Did you get to eat?” Yoongi coughs before crossing his arms, studying the cracks between the tree's bark. He didn't care for those in a while.
“Why? You wanted me to pick up something on the way? I could do it next time,” you say, eagerness pouring out of your words before it pauses to a halt, stopped by Yoongi’s blank face. “No? Fine. I ate, thank you for asking.”
And see, his fading conscience makes it hard for Yoongi to hate you when you are like this–and when he met you this often. Because you were not just the bane of his existence–you were his delivery girl too. His forgetful, airheaded delivery girl who treated everyone the same, paying no attention to Yoongi more than you’d do to anyone else, he thinks as you tilt your head to look at him with big, curious eyes. The silence stretches with the time you take to analyse him before you run with it in your chaotic rhythm.
“You should see how it goes when I don’t want to eat,” you continue on, not seeming to notice how you switched the tangent of your conversation. “Him and the other tinker fairies surround me and chant food, food, food, you know what I mean? I can’t believe them. It’s funny, but my mouth hurts from all the chewing.”
You cup your face and squish your cheeks with one hand to make your point, petal mouth open in a pout. Not soon after, way before Yoongi has time to dwell on it, your posture sags, hands flying to grip the ends of your top. The top made from bits and pieces of purple salvia that he took care of and sent for stitching with careful instructions, and here you were–not a care in the world about all that work by the way you were patting your tummy with mock indignation.
“They’re so so stubborn, I thought my stomach was going to pop out of this fucking–”
Rose glass breaking, Yoongi almost swears himself, getting close out of habit before he realises what he’s doing. His feet plant themselves straight onto the ground, feeling too awkward to back out or resume the beginning of his rant. “H...How many times did I tell you?”
“What? What am I doing?” you ask, dopey arches framing a full smile as you dote on the way his lips purse.
“Stop swearing,” he speaks with his voice lowered, reproachful tone curling like tendrils as it gets to you.
“What’s wrong with that?”
While fairies adapted the language of the region they were residing in, swear words were rare and a clear sign of human interaction. A thing you weren’t supposed to do. The hopeful part of his conscience was praying for you to have heard it from Vidia, back from when the group had their own human encounters. But the realistic side of him, the one occupying itself with creating bonds and structures within his space laughed at the thought: your curiosity was too big to be restrained to a life of nature for eternity.
“You can’t do that here. We have manners, unlike you wind people.”
“You’re being mean, you menace in pink,” he hears Namjoon say from a low branch before you get a chance at a reply and Yoongi drifts his eyes to see his preferred acquaintance (not for long) painting over the wings of a ladybug.
The garden fairy squints at his companion, eyebrows furrowing over delicate features. “Talk about me when your rat stops eating away at my seeds.”
Namjoon rolls his eyes, taking a second brush to puncture the first dot. “It’s a mouse, not a rat. Where did you even hear that?”
“But? But...They told us rats were an accident.”
“They were,” Namjoon nods, solemn as he continues his work. “Weird how that happened. We should ask Yoongi, he has the experience.”
“For the last time,” Yoongi says in the same fashion, looking ready to puncture Namjoon with those brushes, “My aim was off.”
You cross your arms over your chest as you lean against the stem of a dandelion, a small smile playing over your lips at their bickering.
“So was the smell. And the plant. And the root that kept growing.” Namjoon points matter-of-factly, accentuating every hit with a dot on the ladybug. “Seems like you couldn’t get rid of that green duckfoot.”
Yoongi’s jaw ticks, “Stop making fun of it, no one actually calls it that.”
“That’s true, in cities they call it oregano,” you throw and both men turn towards you with bulging eyes, prompting you to return the stare with even bigger ones, as if saying ‘what?’. Namjoon snickers and Yoongi asks Mother Dove what duty he omitted to deserve this. Was it this cursed ‘oregano’ that made it all like this?
The mint disaster happened more than twenty seasons ago, when he was a mere apprentice fairy. Nothing more than a distracted occurrence, where he did not pay much attention to the fact that bloom happened with intention, his thoughts drifted as his magic poured into the soil. When he snapped back to reality, he was met with a different smell and patterns which made him think he had created another type of grass, but with more of a scent. It was humiliating, and it took a lot for him to wash off the stain over his reputation in the following cycles. The realization sinks in as it dissolves, disbelief replacing his initial panic. Not only did you know about the incident, but also–
“She’s been to the cities.” Yoongi murmurs to himself in despair, lips trembling with his shaky exhale as he watches your blank face, no reaction to your slip.
“Of course she’s been to the cities Yoongi, where have you been?” Namjoon teases. “Who do you think gave them the oregano?”
“You're welcome anytime too, you know,” you say with a smile, treading with care on making a direct invitation to Yoongi and putting him in a position he might not want. High chances are he is never doing that, and by the way your eyes plead with him, he realises you think the same. The garden fairy contemplates changing the subject, but he knows you're trying to help, and again, you do this with everyone, so he does not feel as pressured.
His traitor heart, however, has another agenda: it jumps at seeing you manifest a sense of empathy, a patience that goes against your nature. He assumes you mean to ease him into the thought you, or any delivery person won't be there forever. Still,
“There’s something else I have to do.”
The way he says it makes you sigh.
He is so dreamy when he rejects you.

via Politics – FiveThirtyEight
Welcome to a special, post-debate edition of FiveThirtyEight’s weekly politics chat. The transcript below has been lightly edited.
sarahf (Sarah Frostenson, politics editor): So for starters, what did you go into the fourth debate expecting? Same ol’ same ol’? (After all, the last debate didn’t shake up the race too much). My hunch was that much of the discussion would center around impeachment as that has been the news story of the last two weeks. And sure enough it was the first question of the night — but was it the question?
Arguably not, right? So, top level — what stood out to you the most in Tuesday night’s debate?
julia_azari (Julia Azari, political science professor at Marquette University and FiveThirtyEight contributor): For me the takeaways were that the gap between the top three and the rest of the field isn’t as big as you might expect, and also that it’s hard to have a serious contest about principles when most of the people on the stage share basic principles.
Questions on impeachment could have been used to symbolically differentiate candidates, but the questions weren’t very conducive to that.
sarahf: That’s such a good point, Julia. It just seems really hard for candidates to talk for three hours about issues where I think there’s a large level of agreement – like supporting an impeachment inquiry into President Trump or introducing stricter gun laws. And it just seems to fall flat to me. I’m not sure what folks watching at home really learn from these exchanges either.
geoffrey.skelley (Geoffrey Skelley, elections analyst): My main takeaway was that there were arguably more sharp exchanges in this debate. Biden-Warren, Buttigieg-O’Rourke, Warren-Klobuchar, Gabbard-Buttigieg. Sanders was sometimes with Warren during those back and forths, too, particularly on health care.
seth.masket (Seth Masket, political science professor at the University of Denver and FiveThirtyEight contributor): This definitely seemed both one of the most substantive debates and the one with the sharpest arguments and distinctions between the candidates, like Geoff said. We also saw something of a coherent ideological divide emerging, with Biden, Klobuchar, and Buttigieg playing the role of moderates needling the more progressive candidates about whether their policies were realistic and whether they’re hurting Democratic goals.
sarahf: I’d noticed that, too, Seth — it reminded me of John Delaney in the second debate when he and the other moderates teamed up on Warren and Sanders; except this time I thought the punches landed more effectively?
What did y’all think?
julia_azari: I did think the punches landed more effectively. Which goes to what I said in our pre-debate chat on Tuesday: Debates highlight the inevitable flaws of otherwise strong candidates. It really struck me that the more moderate cluster of candidates focused on implementation and feasibility, not on ideological defenses of moderate policy. There was some, of course. But this sort of anti-ideological pragmatic impulse kept surfacing.
geoffrey.skelley: Yeah, the health care segment was so interesting because it exposed some major differences, and instead of John Delaney attacking Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, it was Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar. And Joe Biden, too.
sarahf: I thought Sanders did particularly well on the health care debate and was definitely the most transparent about what his plan for Medicare for All would entail. He acknowledged that “taxes will go up” and argued that they’d go up most for the wealthy. But he didn’t shy away from the idea that they would go up for everyone, even if his argument is that it’s less than “what they were paying for premiums and out of pocket expenses.”
seth.masket: I’d agree with the moderate candidates being more effective, Sarah. Their critiques of the more progressive candidates were more substantive this time. Although I was surprised at Klobuchar’s and Buttigieg’s claim that we’re really, really close to an assault weapons ban if only O’Rourke doesn’t screw it up with his reckless talk. This didn’t strike me as a realistic description of the current political situation.
sarahf: So Julia, at the outset you’d mentioned the gap between the top three candidates and the rest of the field not seeming that large … tell us more about that?
julia_azari: OK, so in general the conventional wisdom since the last debate has been that the field is Warren, Biden, Sanders. That certainly seems to be true in the polls. But there are a lot of other candidates who keep showing up on the debate stage. And I’d argue someone like Amy Klobuchar finally had her breakthrough. The others — Booker, Harris, O’Rourke, etc. don’t seem to be going anywhere but they also don’t… seem to be going anywhere.
They’re all there in case a front-runner plummets. And the front-runners all seem to have enough liabilities that at this point that seems possible. For example, Warren still isn’t very strong with non-white voters. Biden has the accusations of inappropriate behavior, and he is off-putting to progressives. Sanders’s base has shrunk and he’s also had a serious health setback.
sarahf: It sounds as if Klobuchar was your stand out candidate, Julia. What about you, Seth and Geoffrey? Who do you think performed particularly well last night?
seth.masket: I agree with Julia’s assessment that there’s room for the lower-tier candidates to make gains if one of the front-runners stumbles, but I also didn’t see anything that would really change the lineup much. Warren took a lot of fire but handled it pretty well and actually got in some very strong moments. Biden stumbled at times, but no worse than in previous debates. And Sanders actually seemed better than he’s been in previous debates, which is no small feat given recent events. He was sharp on policy and even occasionally funny.
That said, Klobuchar also had an unusually good night. Probably the strongest case for moderation out there tonight (even if we’re not sure what that is).
geoffrey.skelley: You know, I also thought Klobuchar did well. There were some people in our live chat who seemed baffled at that — ahem, managing editor Micah Cohen! But I thought she made some strong critiques of the Sanders/Warren health care approach, and her response where she spoke about her grandfather and how a union protected him felt like a meaningful moment.
julia_azari: I am genuinely curious how Buttigieg’s performance will be received.
seth.masket: I’ve been wondering about that.
julia_azari: He was really forceful… and argumentative with the rest of the field, especially O’Rourke who frankly strikes me as a strange target.
geoffrey.skelley: I also thought Buttigieg was strong, but we’ve seen harm come to other candidates’ favorability numbers when they’ve gone on the attack. Is Buttigieg different?
julia_azari: I’m not sure if everyone caught that he is from the Industrial Midwest?
seth.masket: Buttigieg knows he can’t get anywhere without pulling some folks down, but going negative seems almost out of character for him at this point.
julia_azari: It was strange from the person who scolded people in the last debate about how this is why everyone hates Washington.
sarahf: Clare mentioned this on the live blog, but I do think Buttigieg going after someone like O’Rourke instead of Biden does make a difference, and while he was tough on Warren, I think he was definitely more respectful. I guess I just think of his debate performances so far, this one was definitely his strongest.
geoffrey.skelley: Well, if the question is respect, he may come off better than Biden, whose tête-à-tête with Warren was not great on that front.
julia_azari: If academic-women Twitter is any indication, peoplethey were not into that Biden-Warren moment in which he responded to her work with the CFPB by saying that he got her votes to pass it into law.
sarahf: Yeah … so that Biden-Warren moment. What do you make of their exchange? Is this something we’re going to see replayed and that could hurt, say, Biden’s favorability? It definitely came across as a paternalistic moment, but I wonder if it will actually impact those who already support Biden., because aAs Julia mentioned in our pre-debate chat on Tuesday, and Perry on the live blog, — part of what we’ve learned through these debates is where in the party these candidates fall, and what that means as the party sorts out stances on race and gender.
geoffrey.skelley: Biden naturally has claimed most of Obama’s accomplishments as his own. As the No. 2 in that administration, that’s a smart move for him! But Warren’s response when Biden tried to claim a role in the creation of the CFPB was… awkward. She specifically thanked Obama. And then Biden said, “You did a hell of a job in your job.”
julia_azari: The Biden response to Warren’s point buries the point she was trying to make, which is to respond to all the pragmatism and implementation critiques throughout the night. She was trying to argue “dream big, fight hard” — and make the case for how and why that works.
seth.masket: And as with the previous debates, Biden emerged as That Guy who doesn’t seem to realize that he’s saying offensive and hurtful things. But Warren had some strong and understated ripostes (as Geoffrey noted). I’m not sure how much this reputation has actually hurt his standing so far, but it’s making it harder for him to grow his support beyond what he already has.
sarahf: Which… considering this was the fourth primary debate, how does it fit in with the debates we’ve seen already? I know we chatted about how maybe debates don’t matter all that much for the horse-race on Tuesday, and how it’s more about understanding the direction the party is moving in — but do you think that was the case tonight? Or do you think we’ll see some horse race movement?
seth.masket: Twelve people seemed like too many, but CNN largely handled that by ignoring about a third of the stage most of the time.
Who’s holding the floor?

geoffrey.skelley: I think it’s possible there’ll be some movement in the polls. I can’t imagine there will be an earthquake or anything, but this debate felt more dynamic to me than the previous one-night debate, which of course saw little change in the polls afterward — except Warren’s continued rise.
julia_azari: I think it made differentiation a highly sought-after commodity, which also means that candidates were more negative, as we’ve mentioned.
geoffrey.skelley: Yes, and isn’t that the way that someone like Buttigieg or Warren stands out? I was tasked with watching Harris and Booker during the debate, and the problem for Booker especially was that he was so non-combative and didn’t spend any time seeking that differentiation. He’s a great orator, but I just don’t see anything he said actually moving the polls.
julia_azari: They all also tried to tell personal stories, but with 12 people that somehow comes off as really inauthentic. Everyone knows a person with a horrible illness and a struggling family and has a surprising friend!
seth.masket: The less popular candidates really didn’t offer much to suggest why they should be in the middle or top tier either. Gabbard still seems very out of step with the rest of the field (and the party, largely). Steyer criticized billionaires who buy access but sure sounded like a billionaire who had bought access.
Sadly, a lot of debates end with questions like, “Say something nice about someone you hate.” I don’t know what we learn from those.
geoffrey.skelley: Well, is this where I echo Maggie Koerth-Baker from the live blog and mention there wasn’t a single question about climate change? But a question about Ellen DeGeneres sitting next to George W. Bush at a football game? OK, well, that was dumb.
sarahf: Yeah, that does seem to be a recurring theme in these debates. At least one cringe-worthy question from the moderators that’s too kumbaya-ish.
geoffrey.skelley: Much
Tumblr media
seth.masket: You didn’t like, “You’re feeble and old; tell us why you aren’t feeble and old”?
sarahf: But setting the last question of the evening aside, was there anything new that you learned or surprised you in this debate? Or was it more about different candidates surprising you?
geoffrey.skelley: The combative stance taken by Buttigieg was surprising in that it was a theme for him. He had just released an ad attacking Sanders and Warren by name over their Medicare for All plan, so it wasn’t a shock that he went after them, but then to sort of make that his story throughout the night was somewhat surprising.
Then again, maybe it made sense for him to do that. He might feel that his support is more concrete now than it was before, so why not take some shots?
sarahf: That’s kind of my thought in all this, Geoff. And as you found — Buttigieg has also been consistently performing well in Iowa and New Hampshire polls, so I think he treated tonight as a gambit.
seth.masket: Right before the debate, David Axelrod made the good point that the takeaway moments from debates tend to be planned out in advance — candidates just look for opportunities to deploy them. So it’s interesting to see the choices candidates made along those lines. I’m not sure why Harris used her big moment to complain about Trump’s use of Twitter, or why Biden thought minimizing Warren’s work on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) would be a good idea.
geoffrey.skelley: Harris’s attempt to attack Warren over the president’s Twitter account was my pick for weird moment of the night.
julia_azari: I agree with Geoff that Harris’s prosecutorial moment about Trump’s Twitter was weird, in that she not only mentioned it several times, but also asked Warren if she would pledge to ask Twitter to remove Trump from the platform.
sarahf: Let’s now cast forward to the next debate in November. Eight candidates have already qualified, but four candidates up there last night still haven’t — Gabbard, Castro, O’Rourke and Klobuchar. Do we think this debate helped these candidates get closer to qualifying for November?
It sounds as if we might think it may have helped Klobuchar the most? It’s also kind of crazy when you think about it — eight candidates have already qualified!!!
geoffrey.skelley: It’s interesting because the DNC barely raised the donor threshold — it was 130,000 for this debate, and now it’s 165,000 for the next one. But going from four qualifying polls of 2 percent to now four polls of 3 percent is actually a bit of a barrier. Most candidates have had an easier time with donors than polls.
There’s the early-state poll route, too, but no one’s strength is quite so disproportionately concentrated in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada or South Carolina that anyone’s getting two polls of 5 percent while not also getting four polls of 3 percent or more.
seth.masket: My impression is that Klobuchar would have the best shot of the ones Sarah mentioned. I think there’s interest in someone like her — just maybe a lot of potential donors and supporters who weren’t sure she’d have a shot at winning this thing. My impression was that she allayed some of those concerns tonight.
sarahf: So maybe that’s a good argument for Julia’s point about the gap between the top tier candidates and the lower tier candidates not being that large. I just feel like I’ve been burned by this line of thinking before — particularly after the last debate, where our poll with Ipsos (and others) found not much had changed other than Warren continued to rise in the polls.
seth.masket: FWIW, some of the early-state activists I’ve been interviewing have been donating to multiple candidates, largely to reward them (in small amounts) for stances they’ve taken or speeches they’ve made.
julia_azari: Yeah. I’m not blaming the DNC entirely for not having figured out how this would work. The rules around presidential nominations seem to be changing.
geoffrey.skelley: I am very skeptical that Gabbard or Castro will get many 3 percent polls — they’ve barely had any at 2 percent in the window for the next debate, and neither has any qualifying polls. Klobuchar and O’Rourke, on the other hand, have had a lot of 2 percent polls, so just a little increase in support could get them there. Each has one qualifying poll so far, so they need three more of at least 3 percent.
sarahf: So where do we think we go from here? Who were the debate’s winners and losers? We don’t really do much of that here at FiveThirtyEight, we let the polls have the final say, but were there any clear narratives you saw emerge tonight in terms of debate performance? And how will that impact things moving forward?
julia_azari: I think the winners were Klobuchar, Warren, and Ellen.
seth.masket: John McCain has won a surprising number of these debates so far.
julia_azari: Losers? No clear losers, but no needed breakout moments from Castro, Yang, O’Rourke either.
geoffrey.skelley: I’d put Castro, Steyer, Gabbard as potential losers. Castro and Steyer because they just didn’t have much time. And Gabbard because she said that she supports a third-term abortion ban — though with health exceptions for the mother — just isn’t good politics in a Democratic debate.
seth.masket: I think tonight was a big test for Warren, given her possible front-runner status, and she handled it well. So that’s a win. And yes, Klobuchar was given more time than usual and made the most of it.
geoffrey.skelley: I guess Harris might be a loser, too, in that I don’t see where she did much to break through again.
julia_azari: I agree with that.
geoffrey.skelley: And Booker — he isn’t breaking through either. Hell, almost all of them are actually losers. Hot take.
seth.masket: We’re getting to the point where treading water isn’t enough.
sarahf: Yeah, and given what we know about Harris and how some of her support has gone to Warren, where do we think support for some of these candidates we’re mentioning as winners, like Buttigieg, Klobuchar or Sanders — let’s not forget his late-night endorsement from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Squad — comes from? Because based on what Seth just said I could see what happened in the third debate happen here, too — Warren continues to rise and no one else really sees anything happen.
geoffrey.skelley: Obviously, there was some strategic timing for the incoming endorsements from AOC and the Squad for Sanders. The endorsement had to have been known for a bit and they were waiting for the right moment to reveal it. Those endorsements after a solid debate performance in the aftermath of a health scare might be a good way to shift the conversation in a positive direction for Sanders.
seth.masket: There are still a lot of uncommitted voters out there, and committed ones who say they could change their mind.
I’m wondering if AOC brings Sanders any support he didn’t already have, though.
geoffrey.skelley: Maybe the AOC endorsement helps Sanders some with more liberal voters? Warren has been crushing him there in recent polls from Quinnipiac. In Quinnipiac’s pre-debate poll, Warren got 50 percent among that group while Sanders only got 14 percent.
julia_azari: I’ll also be watching to see the dual dynamic of which faction (left and center-left) will win, and which person has demonstrated their ability to knock out the others for who can be the standard-bearer for their faction.
Another takeaway from the debate: it feels very late in the season for political junkies and professional bloggers, but for a lot of people it’s quite early still.
sarahf: Always true, Julia.

Another lengthy list of Persona 5 thoughts and bullet points, before tomorrow’s inevitable ten-hour marathon of play.
(Spoilers through late June and the third boss dungeon)
Makoto is my favorite character, full stop.  If you have read my epic capslock, you may have already figured this.  She is so fierce and so badass and yet also, the whole judging her self-worth based on her utility thing resonates so hard with me, and I love her and if she weren’t seventeen and also fictional I might propose, but probably I’d just stand back in awe and crush forever.  My new game goal is to max out her social link.  Given that starting it requires significantly more knowledge than I currently have, I forsee a lot of studying in my future...
Current social links I do have: Fool, Magician, Emperor, Hierophant, Lovers, Chariot, Strength, Justice, Death, Moon, Sun.  I am waiting on either stats or trigger events for Makoto (Priestess), Iwai the fence (maybe Tower, I’m guessing now? because who the fuck knows???), the fortune teller in Shinjuku (I am assuming Fortune...), my homeroom teacher who I have been told is an SL (maybe Temperance?  IDK, she seems very ‘sigh why me I just can’t’, which isn’t quite Hanged Man, but whooooo knows), and the two party members I know I’m getting but don’t have yet.  (I’m going to randomly guess Empress and Hermit just based on their character art and the fact that a hacker navi seems Hermit-y to me.)  That counts up to 17 out of 22.  Judgement and World/Universe always auto-level, so I’m still missing three--Devil, Star, and Hanged Man if all of my probably-terrible guesses are right.  Really hoping Sae Nijima is one of them.  Besides that--the reporter lady who gave me Kaneshiro’s name, and maybe that rival model of Ann’s who is such a bitch?  Maybe?  WE SHALL SEE.
Pretty sure I need to do Mishima’s damn Maidwatch thing to start an SL, damnit.  I know I’m not going to max everything (I will max Makoto if she is the only thing I do so help me), but I refuse to deliberately not start something.  Sigh sigh sigh.
Speaking of social links, I’m actually loving Strength most of all right now???  Mostly because of the twins talking about that mysterious list.  I want Margaret or Elizabeth to have written that list for vague arcane reasons more than I can possibly explain.  I am so curious about how these twins and their relationship with the protag is going to develop.  So curious.  That said, the whole ‘how did whoever wrote this list know our next guest would have  Wild Card’ thing???  Who ever goes to the Velvet Room without a wild card?  How is the Velvet Room even remotely useful to anybody without a wild card?
Also speaking of social links and also previous game references, WHO ELSE NOTICED TAKEMI CALLING UEHARA-SAN AT THE HOSPITAL AND MADE HIGH-PITCHED NOISES BECAUSE I SURE AS FUCK DID.  Jesus those two need to be drinking buddies.  I need one million words of Sayoko and Takemi going out to bars together.  Maybe they go out in Shinjuku and run into the reporter-lady.  GIVE ME SOMETHING.
Ahem.  Moving on, can I just say some extremely enthusiastic words about dungeon design in this game?  (Fun fact: it is possible to do the full exploration of Kaneshiro’s dungeon in one day in-game.  Stock up on HP and SP restoration items first, but I have done it and I feel very proud of myself for it.)  It’s so puzzle-y and labyrinth-y!  There was definitely a while where I felt like I was being deeply frustrated by one of those point-and-click escape games I always find myself playing, which I enjoyed immensely.  Everything is so cool and so full of stuff.
So far, we’ve robbed a castle, a museum, and a bank.  We know we’re going to climax with a casino heist.  What else do people classically rob?  Thinking about Leverage is not super-helpful here; they took on a bunch of super high-security office buildings, but I’m not sure they have Sterenkos in the Metaverse, and beyond that it was either new and unusual locations or a lot of museums.  Maybe some kind of ancient tomb/pyramid thing, with lots of traps, very Indiana Jones/Lara Croft?  Possibly a temple to some dude who thinks he’s a god.
I have been theorizing that, as we go through bosses and dungeons, we’re going through the seven deadly sins--seven is a solid number for total dungeons in a Persona game (matches the number in P4), and I feel like we’ve been on par so far.  Kamoshida’s lust, Madarame was specifically called out as ‘vanity’ (which is a subset of pride), Kaneshiro I would’ve expected to be greed but was explicitly called ‘gluttony’, which certainly makes sense with all the pig imagery.  Which means we still need envy, greed, sloth, and wrath.  I could see greed as a ‘greed for power’ final boss dungeon, but I can only imagine what sloth looks like in a P5 boss.  Curious to find out if I’m right!
There have not been a lot of plot developments for me to mull over since last I did a big long one of these.  Not a ton of other things to say on that!
I keep batting ships around in my head, thinking about what-if’s and maybes.
It’s cold and October when the protagonist invites Ann back to his room, just Ann.  They both know what it means.  He kicks Morgana out for the evening and makes coffee and doesn’t meet Sojiro’s eyes, but upstairs it’s... It’s strange, like their lives are strange, this big empty attic-room, this weird outside-of-the-world world where this boy lives like a kid and like an adult and like a thief, making lock picks and training his HP, watching DVDs on rickety chairs with his cat.  And it’s strange because these two people...they lost everything months ago and rebuilt themselves anew.  Panther and Joker are rough and scarred and ferocious, furious, determined.  Panther and Joker don’t do this.  They kill, shadows and now humans because this thing they started once keeps getting bigger and bigger than both of them and sweeping them along with it and they are young gods with magic at their fingertips, and-- here in this room, right now, they’re not the Joker and the Panther, they are.  Children.  They’ve never done this before, because the boy who is now the Joker (most of the time, even when he’s not wearing the mask--how will this train me to be a better thief, how can I use this person, what choices do I make?) well he was quiet and nobody and some core chunk of him still is, under so many masks that he doesn’t know himself any more.  Ann’s never touched anyone like this, not really.  And they are soft to each other, lying on their sides face to face under the covers on his bed, soft and a little wondering and he touches her, shoulder, waist, skin, and she touches him, chest, hip, face.  Very few people have been soft to either of them in a long, long time.
Akechi joins the Phantom Thieves (we all know Akechi already has a persona by this point, right?  Akechi who can understand Morgana from the very beginning, when the game makes such a damn obvious point of Makoto not just a few days later?) and Akechi runs with them and Akechi sells them out, because look if it’s not a fake-out then it’s more interesting that way. Akechi sells them out and the protagonist knows right away that it must have been him, because there are ways and ways they play this game.  They are not soft to each other and they are not done yet.  And however he escapes that jail cell--it is escape, not release, with cops and hounds at his heels, and the help of his team, probably, but our Joker is clever and he manages to twist the facts or appearance of the situation to make it very very clear that Akechi helped in that escape, maybe even masterminded it (even though he probably did no such thing.) That’s it, then, you’re stuck as one of us, boy, one way or another.  The protag meets up with the rest of the team just long enough to make sure everybody’s alive and then they scatter, because he was in there too long and talked too much, and the people watching on that camera have every single name they need.  Everyone in Tokyo is after them.  They need to get out of the city and they need to split up and lie low.  Protag calls his social links, sends party members in ones and twos--get to Shinjuku, the fortune teller will put you up.  If you can slide through Yongen-Jaya without attracting attention, don’t go to Sojiro they’ll look there, go through Takemi’s back door.  Drags Akechi with himself, no questions asked, and they end up in the secret basement Iwai so clearly has for the illegal crap he so clearly sells. Why didn’t you tell them? Akechi says, and the real answer is because that’s not the game, and that’s part of it, but also... We need you now.  You need us.  We’re stronger together.  And also, also, because the team is everything and everyone is at risk now, game or no game, if you do anything like that again I’ll kill you myself, and he will if he has to.  Maybe.  If he actually can. But they spend thirty-seven hours trapped down there in the dark and the dust and the cobwebs, and it’s not the first time they’ve had sex, but every single time previous it was some how much does he know that I know masque of intent and suspicion, and this time, they know.  They know everything.  They’re still enemies.  They’re still closer than the best of friends.  That’s how a good enemy should be.
So look, I don’t know if Morgana ever stops being a cat or not, but if he does, there is going to be Morgana/protag bedsharing fic and I am going to write it.  I don’t even necessarily ship it but that needs to exist.  What’s more in your space than a cat that insists on curling up in your bed, at the small of your back, on top of your face, right next to you night after night?  What’s more ingrained into our protag’s life than the cat in his bag voice in his ear?  What happens if and when that suddenly goes away?  (Sex.  Sex happens.  I am just saying.)
I am weirdly into Makoto/Ryuji right now?  Because okay, look.  Everybody assumes when they get paired together for divide-and-conquer team activities, it’s so Makoto can keep Ryuji out of trouble--impetuous, chariot, loud and somewhat reckless Ryuji.  And it is, but it’s also so Ryuji can keep Makoto out of trouble--because everybody looks at the girl with the grades and the brain and the planning skills, and lets themselves forget the girl who marched into Junya Kaneshiro’s nightclub with absolutely none of that on her side.  Her inner soul is a motorcycle made of light and she’s every bit as much a rebel as any of them, full throttle, no holding back. And so I see Makoto and Ryuji tasked with doing something together, casing out the next target, exploring some bit of a dungeon, and she’s getting a little bossy and he’s getting a little snappish back until, “Come on, Skull, we both know I’m here to keep an eye on you” and he shoots back with, “Nuh-uh, I’m here to keep an eye on you.”  And they face off in annoyance until they discover that no, their leader literally told each one of them separately to keep the other on their best behavior.  And look, it’s an effective personnel management technique.  They respect that.  But also, goddamnit. It makes them both want to do something reckless, just to prove the team wrong.  Nothing to jeopardize the mission, that’s the opposite of effective, but.  But hmm. So maybe they show up to the next meeting both of them on the back of Makoto’s real-life motorcycle, the one she’s said she has a license for, Ryuji squished up against her back with his arms around her waist in a borrowed helmet, and act like nothing’s changed at all while people gape.  Maybe they go a little wild together.  It’s good for both of them. (And they have conversations, the stop-start time that runs into awkward walls but then finds a way around, about their missing fathers, the female relatives they want to do right by and just keep disappointing, their self-worth, their dreams.  Ryuji keeps up with her.  She wasn’t expecting that from him.  He doesn’t take over and he doesn’t try to, but he matches her.  So okay, yeah.  Sure.  Yeah.  This will work.)
They have to flee in the end, every one of them, the whole eight-person-one-cat team--out of Tokyo, and let’s leave all of Japan, and let’s leave the Pacific, leave Asia, get half a world away and regroup.  They’ve got a hacker and they’ve got skills and they end up in Paris because that feels inevitable, in some grand loft apartment or a converted warehouse that looks like the hideout from Inception.  They’re not real adults yet but they’re going to have to act like it, because every adult in their lives is long left behind.  They were the teens and the children rebelling against the shitty grown-ups, but they have to figure out how to be the grown-ups now.  Good luck not being shitty about it They steal because they need to get by and because they’re good at it, and to keep themselves from turning into just exactly the same sort of assholes profiting off the weak they target the biggest assholes they can spot.  Not just in Paris--that’s too close to home, that was part of the problem, wasn’t it?  They spend a week and a half in Belgium, the better part of a month in Germany, a very long weekend in London wrecking things from the base of a couple of hotel rooms, and then they go back to their beautiful huge empty warehouse loft with the tall high windows pouring in sunlight that traces beams through the dust hanging still in the air, and they figure out how to live next. They’re all on top of each other, every one of them, and the boundaries rub away from friction and proximity until they sleep on top of each other in strange piles, until touch comes easy--a hand on a shoulder, a back, a neck, a face.  They pretend to date each other for cons and cover in a dozen different combinations until nobody remembers who’s supposed to be dating who any more, until it doesn’t matter.  They fuck in pairs behind the screens they set up for something like privacy, and there’s no real privacy to it, so instead they start fucking in threes and fours and maybe that’s better. There’s no real rules here except the ones they make for themselves.  They make those unanimously--well.  Let them make this one, then.  The team is the only family, the only life they’ve got.  Let it be everything.

Some thoughts about AnE 87
‘Cause boi dat chapter...!
So there are two things I really wanted to write my thoughts on: it’s about Shiemi’s situation and “the traitor” Mephisto basically wants Lightning to sniff out (because Mephy doesn’t give out answers for free, haha).
Sorry in advance for the length, I just really am enjoying the current arc. :D
About Shiemi
For some reason, getting an Izumo/Suguro/Shura arc always was mandatory in my head, but I never really thought Shiemi could get a personal arc and issues to focus on, which is rather surprising I know, considering that she’s the main girl. xD
The thing is, I’m actually super happy that she’s getting a personal arc even if I wasn’t expecting it, because it’s turning about to be 1000% plot related, on top of being extremely interesting because it also completely fits with her dynamic to Rin’s character and the slight awkward romance between them.
Anyway, while I initially thought two months ago that she might be one of Lucifer’s clones like Arthur (like a good part of the readers it seems), I’m not so sure about it anymore, especially because...
Tumblr media
There obviously has to be a bigger/more complex reason explaining her new decision. Besides, as one of Rin’s closest friends, I find it hard to believe that learning that she was the clone of a demon king would really take away all of her motivation when she’s fine with Rin becoming an exorcist despite being Satan’s son.
Also considering that we’re not privy to what her mom told her but that it unsettled her greatly in the same chapter we were told about the Grigori...
Tumblr media
...I just wouldn’t be surprised if she were in fact to have a link to them more than just to Section 13, and that actually brings me to...
Tumblr media
Her eyes because they’re emphasized on in that one panel...
Tumblr media
and I’m not sure but the sclera somehow looks as if split in two (?) and it kind of reminds me...
Tumblr media
of Shemihaza because can you see the splitting cells in the center? Besides, the plants and flowers we can see around Shemihaza (?) give off a very similar vibe to the ones holding onto Shiemi on the chapter’s cover, just saying.
Lightning introduced to Bon the concept of the current Grigori being nephilims of these three (except for Azazel) in this chapter after all so... maybe Shiemi has something to do with them as well?  Knowing Mephisto, he’d know about something like that since Shiemi is one of his “pawns”, and maybe that’s even why...
Tumblr media
...Amaimon was watching over her in this chapter.
I mean, initially it was easier to think that Shiemi facing Amaimon to defend Rin a few chapters ago was one way to end their “shared history together” xD However it looks like he might actually have a proeminent role to play in her character arc, which is something I personally really appreciate because Amaimon is the King of Earth and Shiemi always had a particular link to plants and flowers in general.
...Without mentioning the Garden of Amahara possibly being brought back for Shiemi’s character arc if Amaimon (the King of Earth) interacts more with her, which overall makes for a very exciting development in my opinion. :)
I’m just... really happy Shiemi seems to be gaining an even bigger role fitting just right into the main plot, but the mystery around her origins is kinda killing me. xD
And about the “traitor” Mephisto and Lightning talked about
To be honest, this part of the chapter also was very interesting because it looks like for once that Mephisto really is clueless about an important plot point.
Tumblr media
And after Takara and Shima, or even after how he didn’t have any shame calling everyone his pawns to their face, that’s really surprising because it means this traitor could be someone way more dangerous than anyone we’ve seen before.
To be honest though, it’s probably not that guy...
Tumblr media
... because, sure he’s fishy, but that’s the thing, it’s way too easy to suspect him. xD
We’re talking about someone whom we’re probably not supposed to be wary of, so that the surprise effect can be similar to when Shima was revealed to be a (double) spy for the Illuminati. ...Speaking of Shima, does anyone remember this scene?
Tumblr media
It’s been a long time and we still don’t know who Shima was talking about in that scene (because it’s not Toudou or Mephisto), but the fact the topic was so strongly avoided back then makes me think that this could be linked to our mysterious traitor.
Besides...
Tumblr media
We still don’t know who Shima was talking to in that scene but it’s probably someone we should know by now, otherwise there was no need for the shadows + since there is still an unknown traitor on the Order’s side and that Shima met the person above in Mephisto’s Academy... Well, all in all it makes me think this person above could be the actual traitor.
In other words:
the traitor is someone of the Order with whom we’re very probably acquainted
s/he might be the one who approached Shima for the Illuminati
s/he might be the one Shima talked to after, um, messing with Yukio
s/he is helping Lucifer from within the Order
s/he is a real thorn in Mephisto’s side because he can’t figure him/her out
The following is just my personal (slightly crazy, I admit it) hypothesis but I spent some time thinking about it and...
Tumblr media
...What if the traitor is none other than Angel himself?
(explanation under read more)
The thing is, just seeing Shima and Takara or even Shiemi (for whom I didn’t expect such a significant development), even the most random character of the series could turn out to be more than what they appeared to be and when it comes to Angel...
Tumblr media
....the comic relief is especially strong in him, to the point of it being slightly ridiculous since he really is a very strong fighter as well as the most emblematic figure of the Order. Besides, I can’t help getting a dejà-vu feeling since Shima was also the comic relief type until Izumo’s arc.
As for some other possible hints...
we all know he is one of Lucifer’s clones
the amnesia excuse seems to be pretty convenient
he’s known to be quite hateful towards Mephisto (who’s really not in favor of Lucifer’s plan as we now all know)
he showed to be interested in Yukio (*cough*like Toudou and Lucifer*cough*)
Lightning, Shura and Mephisto don’t really take him seriously so it would be kinda “funny” if he had somehow found a way to outpass the Morinas contract when no one else did before
he’d make a fine antagonist for Rin’s development as Shiro’s “evil” successor but also because Rin wants to become Paladin
If I remember correctly Sensei said he was supposed to be important to the plot
So... ahem, let’s say that hypothetically...
Tumblr media
Angel does remember but pretends he doesn’t, considering the rather... disturbing experiments he definitely went through at the Asylum, it wouldn’t be that strange to imagine that he grew up wanting revenge for everything that happened to him (and what better way than to help Illuminati deal with the Order if he wanted revenge against all of them?).
Tumblr media
That could also explain his... distrust towards Mephisto in particular too, because it would be logical to assume that, if Lightning knew beforehand that the Grigori were originally from Gehenna, then as the Paladin Angel would at least know that as well. And yet he seems okay with “Azazel” when Azazel is literally Mephisto’s brother. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyway, assuming that Angel is the most clueless character is not a mistake to make in my opinion, especially considering the previous examples of Shima and Takara in the story. For me, since he’s always presented to be so naive when he’s supposed to be the strongest and most emblematic character of the entire Order, I wouldn’t be surprised if he were to be way more than that, especially with his past as one of the experimented kids from the Asylum.
We didn’t get the full story about the Blue Night yet, but Angel is one of the few who was there and we know it was a horrible event, so amnesia or not, Angel would have reasons to be resentful towards the Order anyway.  And besides, with Yukio under a Morinas contract as well, I just can’t believe that a way to avoid its consequences won’t ever be introduced.
I just think it would be quite amazing if “the most clueless character” were to be the one who was actually playing with everyone else right under Mephisto’s nose the whole time to be honest :)
Sorry this was so long but these are my thoughts so far. It will probably change with new content but feel free to leave some thoughts in the meantime if you want!
