as a finishing touch to her outfit, mother reapplies her lipstick: a bold, matte mauve looking all the richer on her mouth. damian knows the delicate hilts of the twin swords hidden in her boots are the same colour. so are the daggers in her layers of skirts. mother's quiet declaration of personality, vicious and viper-beautiful.
damian himself is done up much the same, and he's itchy. he reaches up to tug at his collar again, but mother tsks when she spots him in her vanity mirror, an ornate thing taking up half the wall of her room. "this dinner is filled with your grandfather's friends, damian. you must look immaculate." her voice is stern, steadily so, and damian almost misses the note of fear woven within it.
he cuts his gaze up at her and tries to scowl, though he's afraid it comes out as more of a pout. "they're grandfather's friends, so no matter how i look, i'll be fine."
"that," mother snaps. "that is precisely what you will not do. and keep your gaze down."
"but—"
she crosses the room and kneels down in front of him, catching his hands in her own. "you must keep your eyes down, damian. even if you're furious, even if everything in you is screaming to unsheathe your weapons and show them just how powerful you are, even if it burns you like the suns, you keep your head ducked and your eyes down."
damian makes a show of tugging his hands, caring little about pulling them free. something in his mother's tone has him staring right into her eyes, capturing his attention, a pollock writhing. still, he says, "but then they'll see right through me!"
"precisely," she replies, not missing a second. "for someone of your status, there's nothing safer than being invisible, and that's what matters. keeping yourself safe."
"is it?"
"yes." her voice scratches its sharp-edged nails in the marrow of his bones like collecting tree sap. "and no matter what you do, keep your eyes down. understand?"
and damian cannot find it within himself to argue. "yes, mother."
she nods her approval, then rises to gather the last of her belongings before heading to the door, damian in tow. she moves to open it, but before her hand lands on the handle, it tenses. "and damian? if anything does go wrong, i will not let anything happen to you. i will not let anything touch you, okay? i promise."
---
as a finishing touch to his outfit, father fumbles on his cufflinks. his fingers are almost unsure, working over the silver like a ghost, like weaving a tapestry with spiderwebs and his own fingertips. the roughly stylized 'w' on them, a relic from an old time, is enough to tell damian of their origins.
the stark white of damian's new dress shirt is unfamiliar, and it contrasts his skin tone—sharpening his fledgling cheekbones, throwing shadows under his eyes. he looks, damian thinks, very young. much younger than he holds himself to be.
cufflinks on, father turns to damian, but out of the corner of his eye, damian sees him frown.
"no," father says. "no, damian, look up."
he does, but it's out of surprise. "what?"
"always, always, eyes up. never let them see you falter. never let them make you small."
"eyes down keeps me unnoticed," damian counters, the response route and feeling more like it's coming out of mauve-coloured lips than his own. "eyes down keeps me safe."
father's frown deepens, the lines in his face well-etched, like a groove in a rock widening and widening until it splits in two. "not here," he says. "here it makes you vulnerable."
"but—"
"these people? they want you to get angry. they want you to prove every horrible assumption about you right. and the minute you give them what they want, they've won."
father's always been a quiet sort of strength, like old sepia photographs clinging stubbornly to time, but right now, he looks like he's bleeding over. he looks like a wave of colour in the most furious, frantic way.
"they will treat you, damian, like complete shit. they want your anger. what you'll gift them in return is a steady look, maybe even and that will—that'll enrage them."
damian's heart twists, and suddenly, irrationally, he feels very out of his depth. but father takes a deep breath, straightens his shoulders, and rolls them back once. with a ripple cascading down his body, his suit becomes armour, an iron-strong shield made of silk and cashmere, ready to take to the outside world like a beast to a forest, like teeth to a jugular. damian does his best to copy him.
bruce nods his approval, then double-checks his communicator and batarang in a hidden pocket before heading towards the door, damian in tow. he moves to open it, but before his hand lands on the handle, it tenses. "and damian? if anything does go wrong, i will not let anything happen to you. i will not let anything touch you, okay? i promise."
---
idk i'm having some bruce and talia emotions, and what better vehicle to express them than damain.
also, happy ganpati everyone!

same as quite a few people im slightly intrigued by this car that appears in ep1 (and im sure appears elsewhere in s2 if they are recycling scene dressings as much as they are the extras) (and no comment so far on whether this Means anything):
Tumblr media
the car itself i think, could be important; im reasonably certain this is the ds3 crossback e-tense (again, im sure someone else has identified it too, im not pretending im a genius with a unique observation here):
Tumblr media
in fact this fab post looking at the exact same thing (i spent ages bloody looking for it, only for it to just wander across my dash - typical) pinpointed it to potentially be the ds3 esprit de voyage which, if it is indeed (and may well be, im certainly not an expert on cars) supports the point made here*
but the question is the exterior, right? well, we know from set photos that there's a small market after the crossroads, as you head north-east up whickber street, that is selling a bunch of flowers as well as fruit and veg etc... but the car is positioned directly parallel to the coffeeshop, so the mottling can't be a reflection of that. furthermore, the mottling doesn't move as the car creeps forward, so it's either a matte pattern of sorts, or is something layered on top of the reflective bodywork.
which would leave it to be a wrap, or dust. starting with the latter; we know that a lot of the cars appear to be dressed with dust, which is understandable from a world-building perspective, even if it does happen rather inconsistently, raising its own conundrum... but let's say it's simply to make them look more lived-in and able to fade into the background scenery (a very shiny, newly washed and waxed car would stick out somewhat). also, i think (?) that s2 is set somewhere towards the tailend of summer/early autumn (not sure where i got this from though), so dust from dry london streets makes sense. but then again, the patterning of said dust on this car is strange; you'd expect it to be splashed along the sides essentially below the door handles, not splashed across it like a jackson pollock... and the windows (the rear-offside one, for reference) appear to be clear.
which brings me to the possibility of the former; as far as research tells me, this mottled grey isn't an official colour of the model, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything - people can get vehicles wrapped in mostly anything providing it's a recognisable colour by the DVLA. so, im now wondering if it might be a test vehicle (where new vehicles on test are covered with a camouflage wrap to prevent design ideas being stolen by competitors before official release), given that i think the facelift electric model of the e-tense* was released in november/december 2021, and s2 filming started in 2021 and wrapped in early 2022, so this would make sense. *alternatively, if this is the esprit de voyage model, this model looks to have been set for release in late 2023, which only furthers the above - in either case, that it was potentially on test and therefore would have been camo-wrapped...?
*important, as all but the bentley were electric cars re: filming on an indoor set.
regardless of the exact model, it is potentially a bit strange that a new vehicle, on test, would be used as an extra in the show, but (and im not an expert) i think that as a co-production with the BBC that the rules on product placement would apply, even if it doesn't broadcast on BBC... so, say for example that the props department needed to source a variety of electric vehicles, available in the edinburgh area, but couldn't enlist multiple of the same model because of these guidelines (avoid undue prominence). so, they find the above model, but as it's a new model due for release, it needs to be wrapped?
idk, bit of a stretch, but the alternative is that the car appears in the show, in this way, for some reason that serves an ulterior plot point... which, seems to me to be a bit stretched? it might well be! but taking into account the potential of the above, plus COVID limitations, i do wonder if it's just that they had to source and dress a variety of electric vehicles from the area, and it just so happened that this one being not yet available for public release had to be wrapped?

What is the best htv or other vinly to use on athletic shoes?
Tumblr media
What is the best htv or other vinly to use on athletic shoes? When it comes to applying heat transfer vinyl (HTV) or other vinyl to athletic shoes, there are a few considerations to keep in mind. Let’s dive into the details:
What Does TD Mean in Shoes? 2024
What is the best htv or other vinly to use on athletic shoes?
- Choosing the Right Vinyl: - Siser Easyweed HTV: This is a popular and budget-friendly option. It works well on various fabrics, including athletic wear. However, it may not have the same stretchability as some other options. - Premium Heat Transfer Vinyl from Expressions Vinyl: This vinyl is specifically designed for athletic apparel. Here’s why it’s a great choice: - Super Stretchability: Athletic shoes need to flex and move with your feet. The premium vinyl offers excellent stretchability without cracking or peeling. - Ultra-Matte Finish: Unlike glossy finishes, the ultra-matte finish of this vinyl blends seamlessly with the fabric, creating a professional look. - Soft and Thin Texture: It almost melts into the fabric, ensuring there’s no stiffness or bulk. - Application: Use a heat press or an iron (adjust the temperature according to the fabric type) to apply the vinyl. Make sure to protect the fabric with a Teflon sheet during pressing. - Application Tips: - Preparation: Clean the shoe surface thoroughly before applying the vinyl. - Design: Choose or create your design. Glitter HTV tends to work well for shoe designs. - Weeding: Weed out the excess vinyl carefully. - Placement: Position the design where you want it on the shoe. - Pressing: Use a heat press or iron to apply the vinyl. Follow the recommended temperature and time settings. - Cooling: Allow the design to cool completely before peeling off the carrier sheet. - Test First: Always test a small area before applying the vinyl to the entire shoe. - Other Considerations: - Shoe Material: Different shoe materials (canvas, leather, synthetic fabrics) may require slight adjustments in temperature and pressure. - Athletic Shoes vs. Casual Shoes: While the premium vinyl works well for athletic shoes, consider other options (such as holographic or patterned vinyl) for casual shoes. - Durability: The right vinyl should withstand wear, washing, and stretching without losing its integrity.
Recommended any specific shoe designs.
Certainly! Here are some creative and eye-catching shoe design ideas that you can consider applying using HTV or other vinyl: - Galaxy-Inspired Shoes: - Create a cosmic design with swirling galaxies, stars, and planets. Use a mix of blues, purples, and blacks to mimic the vastness of space. Add glitter accents for extra sparkle. - Floral Patterns: - Flowers are always in style! Design delicate floral patterns on the sides or toes of your shoes. Opt for bright colors for a springtime feel or go monochromatic for elegance. - Geometric Shapes: - Use triangles, hexagons, or other geometric shapes to create a modern and abstract design. Arrange them in a visually pleasing way across the shoe. - Animal Prints: - Leopard spots, zebra stripes, or snake scales—animal prints add a wild touch. Choose vinyl colors that contrast well with the base shoe color. - Gradient Ombre: - Blend two or more colors seamlessly from toe to heel. Ombre effects look stunning on sneakers. Consider shades like teal to navy or pink to purple. - Minimalist Lines: - Sometimes less is more. Create simple lines, stripes, or zigzags for a clean and contemporary look. Use metallic vinyl for added sophistication. - Tribal or Aztec Patterns: - Draw inspiration from indigenous art. Bold lines, triangles, and repeating patterns can make your shoes stand out. - Sports-Inspired Logos: - If you’re customizing athletic shoes, consider adding sports team logos, basketballs, soccer balls, or tennis rackets. Represent your favorite team! - Abstract Splatters: - Channel your inner Jackson Pollock! Splatter paint designs give a fun and artsy vibe. Use neon colors for an extra pop. - Personalized Monograms: - Add your initials or a short word (like “RUN” or “LOVE”) to the heel or tongue of the shoe. Elegant fonts work well here.
Recommend any specific color combinations.
Certainly! Color combinations can significantly impact the overall look of your customized shoes. Here are some stylish and harmonious color pairings to consider: - Classic Black and White: - You can’t go wrong with this timeless combination. Use black vinyl for the base design and white for accents or vice versa. It’s sleek, versatile, and always in style. - Navy Blue and Gold: - Navy blue represents stability, while gold adds a touch of luxury. Combine these colors for a sophisticated look. Consider using gold vinyl for logos or intricate details. - Mint Green and Coral: - Fresh and vibrant, mint green pairs beautifully with coral. Use mint as the base color and add coral accents or vice versa. Perfect for spring and summer vibes. - Gray and Blush Pink: - Gray is neutral and complements almost any color. Pair it with soft blush pink for an elegant and feminine touch. Think about floral or lace-inspired designs. - Turquoise and Yellow: - Turquoise evokes tropical vibes, and yellow adds a sunny pop. These colors work well for beach-themed or vacation-inspired shoe designs. - Red and Black: - Bold and striking, red and black create a powerful contrast. Use red vinyl for eye-catching logos or patterns against a black shoe background. - Purple and Silver: - Purple symbolizes creativity and spirituality. Pair it with silver for a magical effect. Geometric patterns or mandalas in these colors can look stunning. - Teal and Coral: - Teal (a mix of blue and green) pairs beautifully with coral. It’s refreshing and energetic. Consider a gradient effect or abstract waves using these colors. - Monochromatic Gradients: - Choose a single color (e.g., shades of blue) and create a gradient effect from light to dark. It adds depth and interest to your design. - Rainbow Spectrum: - Feeling adventurous? Incorporate all the colors of the rainbow into your design. Use small vinyl pieces to create a mosaic effect. What is the best htv or other vinly to use on athletic shoes? Remember to adapt these designs to the shape and size of your shoes. And don’t forget to share your finished creations—they’re sure to turn heads! 🎨👟 Read the full article

Final Project/ Exam
Singing in Colors by Ashley Vasquez
Tumblr media
In Progress Picture: Outside Lightening:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Materials: Acrylic paints, pouring medium, mixing bottles, plastic cups, paint brushes, plastic cover, canvas, plastic spoon (mix materials), and glittered acrylic paint.
Inspired by Jackson Pollock’s “drip paintings” and acrylic pouring on Tik Tok, I was motivated to create my own version of a painting. I began by gathering my materials. I went to the store and got a canvas, pouring medium and four different acrylic paints. Once I got home, I placed a plastic tarp underneath my canvas so nothing would spill on the ground. I then gathered a bottle where I added my pouring medium into each paint color and mixed these consistencies. The pouring medium had a silicone material that would help create bubbles as this changed the fluids viscosity. After, we poured each colored paint into a plastic cup, with the teal paint first, then the white, rose gold, and then the red. I repeated a different order in the next pour, and this created a mixture of paints in the cup.  I filled two cups up with the paint mixture and then poured one diagonally from the bottom right corner and the other from the top left corner. Quickly the canvas was filled with splashes, bubbles, and different patterns and mixtures of paint. It was really cool to see the paints mix and come to form a very loud yet complex nonrepresentational painting. I then let the canvas sit and dry overnight. The next day, I felt like something that represented me was missing. I noticed that while I was working on my painting, I was listening to Taylor Swift’s music non-stop. I realized that I wanted to incorporate a reference to Ms. Swift, and I decided to print a Taylor Silhouette of her singing in the eras tour. I had to edit the silhouette before printing it to make sure it would be of great proportion to my canvas. After editing, I cut out the silhouette and then traced it with my pencil. I then went onto trace the pencil lines with a sharpie, and then paint the outline with black matte paint. After I waited for the black paint to dry, I went in with a different brush and used a sparkly glitter acrylic paint over that area. After doing all that, I went over it with a clear topcoat, to seal in the paints. I loved how my painting Singing in Colors turned out, and admire the contrast of textures and patterns, colors, and shimmers.
My canvas features the form of acrylic pouring and painting. It is a representation to honor my admiration of Taylor Swift as well as make my own version and interpretation of a “drip painting.” I refer to the different textures, patterns, and colors as my thoughts that are just running around in my mind. Acrylic pouring is something I have been wanting to try and this was a perfect way for me to try it out. I look forward to making more in the future and customizing them further.

But can we really be sure that the speed of light wasn’t different in the past, or perhaps in other parts of the universe? In fact, variable speed of light theories have long been used to try to explain everything from dark energy to gravity itself. Let’s explore how constant this fundamental constant really is. Seattle Mariners-Minnesota Twins Series Preview
7.24.23-Luis Castillo RHP (6-7) 3.04 ERA Vs. Kenta Maeda RHP (2-5) 5.10 ERA
7.25.23-George Kirby RHP (9-8) 3.23 ERA Vs. Pablo Lopez RHP (5-6) 4.22 ERA
7.26.23-Bryce Miller RHP (6-3) 3.50 ERA Vs. Joe Ryan RHP (9-6) 3.88 ERA
The Mariners At A Glance- The Mariners just closed out a long homestand after hosting the All-Star Game. They went (5-5) on the ten-game stand and head out to Minneapolis for a three-game series against the Twins. Seattle took two out of three from Toronto over the weekend. JP Crawford is hot with a .348 average in July. Mike Ford has hit four homers and knocked in twelve runs in July. The Mariners have suffered some injuries lately as Jarred Kelenic broke his foot after Jhoan Duran struck him out last week. AJ Pollock was put on the injured list with a hamstring strain on Saturday. Cade Marlowe and Taylor Trammell were called up in their absence. The young pitching staff of George Kirby, Lucas Gilbert, and Bryce Miller are trying to carry the team back into the Wild-Card race. They sit 4.5 games behind the Blue Jays for the final spot. Paul Sewald has locked down nineteen saves. Justin Topa and Andres Munoz can bring it from the right side. Ty Adcock and Matt Brash are solid relievers as well.
The Twins At A Glance- The Twins are one of the hottest teams in baseball following the All-Star Break. They are (8-2) in their last ten games and just swept the White Sox over the weekend. The Twins host the Mariners this week at home before having an off day in Kansas City on Thursday. Eddie Julien is hitting .520 since the All-Star Break. Alex Kirilloff has four homers and thirteen RBI in his last eight games. Kyle Farmer is hitting .333 since the break. Byron Buxton might get put on the paternity list after his wife went into labor after Sunday’s game. Trevor Larnach was taken out of the game for the Saints as a precaution. Jorge Polanco is going to see more reps at third base as Eddie Julien’s bat stays hot. Polanco has played some third base in his career. Joey Gallo and Willi Castro returned to action on Sunday after dealing with pink eye for the past few days. Emilio Pagan has allowed just two runs over his past sixteen innings of work.
What To Watch For- The Twins split four games against the Mariners last week at Safeco Field. The Mariners opened 2022 at Target Field and split a four-game series to start the year. Luis Castillo has a 6.88 ERA in four starts against the Twins. Kenta Maeda has a 2.61 ERA over 10 1/3 innings against the Mariners. George Kirby threw seven shutout innings last Thursday against the Twins. Pablo Lopez gave up two runs over five innings in the same game versus Seattle. Joe Ryan is (0-2) with a 6.23 ERA in two starts against the M’s. This should be another solid test for the Twins against a fringe playoff team. They have been playing solid baseball. Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax likely will be unavailable for Monday’s game as they worked on Saturday and Sunday. It’s going to be a hot week at Target Field with triple-digit temperatures expected.

— MLB Venezuela (@MLBVenezuela) April 27, 2023.

Watch "Viral of TikTok - Smooth Criminal Dance POLAND" on YouTube
And they were saying our son is mostly just all bone and when he says no but that's what people say but you guys are that's what they're saying about you and you're not really saying it cuz we asked you and you should be saying it is what we do I don't know but you should be saying it's almost perfect except for the parts for they say to grab you but that's not very pronounced it says some interesting stuff you're all bones and your dapper in your dress to succeed in that locale Russia but that they're after you and grab you when you're doing something illegal crossing and that you look like a Pollock and your legs spread so you know what that means and I guess it's probably more too
Zues Hera
There's a huge change in what they're saying no it's a bunch of jerks to our son since I'm not my clan and you ruined them and can't give you proper advice and you listen that much anyways but my advice has been pretty good it's just a that your losers. And he goes okay but that's true, says nasty stuff listens and says well can't help it. Shoot some glances around and says these people are here doing it and there are idiots. The lost power and are blaming him. Still don't blame me a ton. This was going on they keep discovering what it is can't remember it's right there in code as a foreign country it's Russia and that's what they're doing to you and mack and Tommy f wants to happen and back has to because you're not responsive to everything. And Trump is sick is disassembled one of the cranes the big yellow one actually said wow I didn't think it was that one and it was well that's the white one and they put it out there and it's for her to walk around on made her think she's controlling it figured out she's not so it might try and force her to jump and it's her people. She looks back she's still them and walks off it and says you set yourself up it doesn't work and if they switch out they be doing it in your name and it started blabbing and she said shut your f****** mouth get off on stage she called some others to hers up. Seriously she knows you shut up too. And heard you talking and say to the security thing and some people looking around and they found clothes and they were walking around them and they're standing around them and she said good and then out there and then contact the max they're still big the ships are huge this is crazy some reason they want her to fall off something the hell's that so you start thinking about it and fall off the crane fall off the stage. Matt figured it out and it's about her and pushing against Tommy f and yeah he's too big still to get knocked down it's going to be him then back to back and then back to the forg and that's how it is.
This takes the Cake watching Trump around having to do this stuff that's what they're doing and it is back and Tommy Evans involved it's kind of weird and rude and lame and foreigners are pushing them around too but this is relentless stuff it's getting really late but we really need to get stuff going and they keep on showing this crude stuff what we think is it's annoying as hell but it's telling people what's going on so they can react appropriately and pretty soon you can find out what's wrong thing to do but you're a bunch of boobs we need to weed you out send you out just to keep doing it and some point it's going to get better they will have to keep doing it and we will today we made a big progress huge lots of idiots are out and it's because of construction yeah but there's rings they're working on and they're the ones doing it. And it is like a second ring and dans were in the first. And the second one is Trump. And he is getting his ass kicked and there's a lot of people seeing it and they're in the ring I'm trying to move to Dan's place again. They are his higher ups. No they're being pushed around out there and pulled out so they're trying to get to the inner ring where Dan was and Dan's people are there a little bit probably 30% of what was there and they're fighting over houses they're in so that's why it's a Russian I see. And they're moving in and yeah the stupid rings coincide with our wedding bands which we took back a long time ago. And they are losing at Dan's place and Dan is losing a dance place and Trump is losing it Trump's place as the ring deteriorates Trump is calling like a madman to try to attack areas when he's doing that he's trying to attack the Midwest from ships I get it the max can't let you do that right and that was Trump and our son and they saying that when they're firing Max are hitting them and so go down for a while. And Trump's are losing but really they're firing on max and the threatening Max and more later but half of them are gone out here in that ring

How I learned to stop worrying about AI Art.
Tumblr media
I've had so many thoughts on A.I. art as it has risen in public awareness. Recently it has reached a level of ubiquity where I've been seeing laypeople outside the art community creating some really cool stuff with AI tools.
I think the first instinct for any artist is to feel threatened. In 60 seconds, an AI was able to generate the image above, where something like this would take me days. Weeks, even.
Now, before I begin, these thoughts are taking in mind the numerous ethical concerns of AI art. Artists that are having their works used as training inputs will never see a dime or a lick of credit. Human biases are being trained into these AI platforms. For example, type any input and use the word "man". Then generate that same input with "man" swapped with "woman". The pose, clothing, etc. will be drastically different because of the differences men and women are portrayed in art. It's often egregiously sexist/racist.
But those concerns are not under the purview of these thoughts. I think, as artists who feel threatened by AI Art, there is a significant amount of hope to be found in its rise.
See, since the day I arrived on the scene, the online art community has been obsessed with novelty. Novelty gets attention. Novelty gets likes and shares. People want to see things their eyes and brains have never seen before. It feels good in a world of monotony.
As a younger artist, I did exactly this. Weird simulation? Post it! Funky surreal-yet-photoreal render? Post it! People will love it. If it looks novel or vaguely provocative, it gets posted because novelty is rewarded. Always.
Most artists I follow built their following on novelty. But now A.I. art has made novelty abundant. Any person with access to Midjourney or Dall-e or even Craiyon can make something just as novel or surreal as the most technically gifted Instagrammer out there.
Tumblr media
And when everyone's got access to unlimited novelty... Well, nobody is novel anymore. But is that really the end of human art? I think that conclusion is based on a misunderstanding of what art really is.
Tumblr media
The rise of NFTs put many crypto-artists in a crisis that many of us watched in real time. They wanted to be remembered alongside Rembrandt and Jackson Pollock. Banksy and Warhol. But they were pushing very technical, usually abstract 3D renders that only really had novelty value.
The ensuing relational aggression between crypto artists calcified into a mantra that went something like this. "You can't just mint your usual renders, it has to have MEANING to be true art."
Well we all know how that ended. Turns out making art with "meaning" (whatever that means) is a lot harder than making something with 5 seconds of attention span worth of novelty value.
The truth is, the digital art world IS going through a crisis whether we know it or not. Artists whose entire livelihoods are based on novelty are in actual jeopardy because of AI art.
And as AI asset generation methods only sophisticate further, more and more jobs are going to disappear in art-heavy industries like marketing and game dev. But we're not there yet. And if you're an artist reading this, there's still time. And there's still hope.
Tumblr media
With an overabundance of novelty value in art, driven by this AI revolution, I'm willing to bet the "value" of novelty will plummet. We will be increasingly unimpressed by the increasingly fantastical images AI and artists are able to put in front of our faces.
Even now I'll see a matte painting in a movie that would have made me poop my pants in 2016. But now my reaction as an observer is "ah yes, another gorgeous, intricately detailed matte painting." There's no feeling there. The sight of a pleasing image is no longer compelling.
Ultimately, It's a damning view of how modern audiences parse media. The obsession with novel images is a far different view of art than people have had throughout history. Not to say art and novelty can't exist in the same breath. But those terms are not synonymous.
Tumblr media
The golden nugget of truth buried at the core of all of this is that art is an expression of the human experience. Now, that's an impossibly broad definition, yet still untouchable by artificial intelligence because they lack the single qualifier to be able to make art. Being human. being sentient.
If AI had the power to make true art, it would be art that means something to other AI more than to us. (But that's a whole other conversation about the intersectionality of sentience I'm not going to get into in this thread).
AI can imitate. It can pretend. It can emulate. But until it is a bucket of neurons out in the world experiencing human life, pain, social structures, injustice, inequity, etc. it cannot make human art.
An AI does not understand grief. It does not understand what it's like to carry a child. It does not know the touch of a kitten's fur or the taste of Taco Bell on a road trip. AI does not know the unending pain of being a Browns fan.
Art is expression. An expression of life. Of every input processed by our hormonal, imperfect human brains.
I think A.I. art is exposing--HAS exposed--the lack of this in much of the human art we consume today. And soon it may not matter how beautiful an image or a sound is. What will matter is how much that sound or image means to someone else.
Tumblr media
This is the new mandate for human artists. A mandate that I think has been neglected for a long time. To create, not for novelty value, but for the sake of connection. To take a piece of yourself and put it into words or colors or sounds and give it to the world. To create vehicles for emotional discourse.
In the end, AI art may have freed us from our own worst instincts. The way the nuclear bomb was a terrible thing that changed the way wars are fought, AI art is an anchor that will steer us into a new trajectory of human artistry.
It isn't without it's ethical dilemmas. But it doesn't spell the end for human artists. In fact, it just might be the beginning of something better.
