Happy Pi Day from Katia Plant Scientist! Pi Day is March 14th, which is a mathematical pun on the date written out as 3/14. Pi is the mathematical constant defined as the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, and this constant is approximately 3.14159. Pi has many more decimals than this of course, because it is an irrational number that cannot be expressed as the ratio of two integers. Pi has an endless string of decimals that never repeat or fall into a predictable pattern. This is where the idea of "Pi Day" originates. This quirky mathematical holiday has been celebrated since 1988 by making and eating pies as well as holding math-based quizzes and competitions. Contests where students and math enthusiasts recite as many decimals of Pi as possible are a popular Pi Day activity. This is my homemade pumpkin pie from Thanksgiving dinner, featuring Crown Prince pumpkin as the main ingredient and garnished with pecan nuts. A math joke that is in fact a Mom Joke and not a Dad Joke because my Mom used this with me as a mnemonic ... Q. What’s wrong with the equation 'pi r squared?' A. Pi are round. Cake are square. #katia_plantscientist #piday #pie #dinner #STEM #mathematics #math #mathisfun #mathjokes #mathskills #numbers #NumberPi #March14th #redwine #dinnertable #pumpkinpie #science

Skills Needed For Engineering Careers
There are certain skills you need to learn if you're looking to pursue an engineering career. These include teamwork, attention to detail, and Math skills. In addition, it helps to have an ear for music.
Teamwork
Teamwork is a skill that is essential for successful engineering careers. Working as a team is vital to meeting deadlines and achieving output quality. Having strong teamwork skills will help you build a reputation as a team player. This will also help you gain the respect of your coworkers.
Engineering educators value teamwork skills and work to provide students with the opportunities to develop these skills. The University of Calgary Schulich School of Engineering (SSE) has conducted a survey of its undergraduate students to evaluate their perceptions of teamwork. These results have revealed key trends in student insights.
The 2017 survey included 46 Likert-scale questions. It included three open-ended questions about teamwork skills, as well as five questions about attitudes toward teamwork.
While the results showed that students believed teamwork was important, there was a gap between their understanding of what it means and their abilities to use it effectively. Students also indicated that they would like to see more teamwork initiatives implemented in their programs. Specifically, they wanted to see more team projects, more teamwork skills training, and more peer feedback opportunities.
One of the most important aspects of teamwork is communication. Being respectful to others and being open to their ideas is critical to a productive relationship. When you are a part of a team, you must be willing to take risks and share information. Having an open dialogue with other team members is a great way to promote trust and encourage innovative thinking.
As a team member, you should also be prepared to offer feedback on your peers' and supervisor's work. This can give you more insight into your own performance. However, you should avoid making complaints when problems arise.
Attention to the minute details
If you want to be successful in your career, you need to pay attention to the minute details. Attention to detail is a crucial skill for all professionals. It helps to eliminate mistakes, enhance customer service, and improve operations.
In many professions, such as engineering and accounting, paying attention to the details is a must. Professionals must be able to see wood from trees, solve problems creatively, and be able to meet tough deadlines. A lack of attention to the minute details can put a professional's career at risk.
You can improve your attention to detail by becoming more organized. Being organized helps you save time and energy. Also, it makes your work easier to do. This will help you stand out among your peers.
Paying attention to the minute details also shows your boss that you care about your job. This will help you to avoid lawsuits and government fines.
Paying attention to the minute details can save a lot of time and money. For example, an error in a decimal point could cost a patient his or her life. Having good attention to detail also prevents inconsistencies in data.
A detail-oriented employee can increase efficiency and reputations. This can lead to promotions. Often, an employer will look for candidates with attention to detail when hiring new employees.
Whether you are in the military or a doctor, the ability to pay attention to the minutia can mean the difference between life and death. People who are detail-oriented are often highly effective in catching costly errors early.
You can also make the most of your attention to the minute details by developing sensory perception. Developing your senses will help you to focus on the task at hand and handle distractions.
Emotional intelligence
Emotional intelligence is a major part of becoming an effective engineer. The engineering profession is more prone to interpersonal interactions and it is important to be able to connect with others.
Engineers must also know how to listen and empathize with their customers. They must be able to adapt to new situations and learn how to react appropriately. Often, emotional intelligence is overlooked in the workplace, but it is a crucial skill.
As an engineer, you will be working in teams to develop products or services that will be used by others. Being able to empathize with your end users will help you to make the best designs.
Developing emotional intelligence is a lifelong process. The most important step is to know what you value. Once you know what you want out of life, you can begin to work toward your goals.
If you want to learn how to improve your Emotional Intelligence skills, consider taking a course. There are many options available. One is the Emotional Intelligence Foundations course, which teaches foundational practices for empathetic communications.
The course is voluntary and takes about 30 minutes to complete. Participants will receive an electronic badge upon completion. In addition, the workshop will provide participants with access to an exam after the workshop.
A number of companies require an Emotional Intelligence test. Some companies will even conduct tests on candidates before hiring them. This type of testing is similar to a personality test. However, it is not as reliable as a test that measures innate characteristics.
Many studies have shown that people who are well-versed in emotional intelligence can excel in their careers. Those who have an Emotional Intelligence score are often seen as more self-aware. These people are able to set boundaries and regulate their emotions.
Math skills
Math skills are essential for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in engineering. Whether you are a mechanical engineer, civil engineer, or environmental engineer, you need to have a solid foundation in math. Having a good mathematical background can ensure that you are able to solve a problem.
As a matter of fact, math plays a significant role in every area of engineering. Engineers use math to calculate risk, test the strength of materials, and design solutions for problems. However, not all engineers enjoy the abstract nature of math.
While a solid math background can be an asset to any engineering job, it is not necessary to be an expert. A good foundation can be developed with the help of a math tutor or a simple course.
Some colleges also offer specific math courses for engineers. Those who are enrolled in such a program should take the time to study the mathematics outlined in the curriculum. This can boost the confidence of those who struggle with basic math.
If you are struggling with your grades in math, a good solution would be to find a tutor who can teach you the basics. It is a good idea to develop a plan before you begin to study. Then, you can focus your efforts on the subject matter you need to learn.
One of the best ways to improve your math grades is to identify your strengths and weaknesses. Developing a strategy for improvement can also help you become more confident with your math.
While a math degree is not required for an engineering career, a strong math background can enhance your earning potential. Without a degree, you might have trouble finding a position or promotions in your field.
Collaboration skills
Collaboration skills are an essential part of any engineering technician's career. These skills are needed to communicate, to work well with others, and to deliver results as a team.
Working in a team can boost productivity and create healthy relationships. When you are working as a team, you can share your ideas and develop unique solutions.
To get the most out of your collaboration skills, you need to be able to listen to your teammates, communicate effectively, and take responsibility for mistakes. These skills will allow you to become a valuable team member.
Successful collaboration is important for businesses, especially those that are relying on technology for their operations. In the 21st century, businesses need engineering solutions that can help them improve efficiency and productivity.
The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) requires collaboration skills. Employers look for a variety of skills to move a project forward.
A great collaboration engineer can communicate complex ideas to non-technical stakeholders. These engineers also have the skills to identify and solve problems. They typically have a bachelor's degree in a related field. They may work under the supervision of a senior engineer or project manager. Their salary is based on their years of experience and education.
Some employers require a master's degree in the same or a related field. Other employers prefer candidates with experience in the industry. Whether you are applying for an engineering technician job or a management role, you will need to learn how to collaborate.
Collaborating with a group of people can be difficult. You need to understand each of your colleagues' personality traits. It is also crucial to understand your own style of communication.
Collaboration skills are a soft skill, but they are highly valued by employers. Companies want to hire workers who are adaptable and who can work well with others.

my cringefail autistic babygirls nine and ten in the style of "doodles i'd do during class back when they passed out actual physical worksheets"
turns out if you set your procreate pencil to 60% opacity on accident, the graphite effect becomes a lot more believable. who knew!
[Image ID: A digital drawing of the busts of the Christopher Eccleston Doctor and the first David Tennant Doctor in profile, facing right and left respectfully. they are offset vertically, and the style mimics that of a traditional graphite pencil on computer paper; the background sports slight texturing to reinforce this. both doctors are wearing their traditional outfits. each has text written next to them, saying 'nine, last of the Time Lords, the one who loved' and 'the one love bore, Time Lord victorious, ten' respectively. / .End ID]
