Pairing: Mal Volari x Daenarya (F!MC)

Word count: 572
Summary: Mal had a little too much to drink. It's up to Daenarya to help him make his way through the woods.

Shoutout to @dutifullynuttywitch, who helped me pinpoint what was wrong with this story, and even gave me one of the lines outright. You're amazing.
The moon hangs low in the sky, its red-white glow granting the night an ethereal feel. In the woods beneath, two figures lean on each other, hands clutching and grasping, their faces close enough to kiss.
It would be more romantic if they were leaning on one another out of desire instead of necessity.
“An earthquake!” Mal exclaims, his head swinging wildly. “Quick, kit, take cover!”
Daenarya barely manages to catch him before he sends them both tumbling to the ground. She doesn’t even attempt to contain the bubble of laughter tickling her throat. “It’s not an earthquake, Mal. It’s the result of one too many glasses of ale.”
“Why Kit, I never!” Indignant, he jabs a finger and nearly takes her eye out. “I am insulted. Offended. No, appalled at your insinuation.” She captures his finger, giving it a playful nip and a quick kiss, all the while giggling at her foolish rogue.
“Not so much an insinuation as an expression of fact, Your Magnificence. I did tell you to pace yourself.”
“But it was a ce-celebration!” He hiccups. “We made it out of the Deadwood! We had to commemorate the occasion!”
She pats his shoulder a little too hard. “That doesn’t mean you and Imtura had to challenge each other to see who could, er, commemorate more.”
He laughs uproariously, then comes to an abrupt stop before turning in a circle. Daenarya stumbles. “Where is Imtura?”
“Probably giving Tyril as much trouble as you’re giving me.”
“But we never reached a consainsos… conshensus… con-sen-sus,” he corrects, slurring over each syllable. “Who won? Who lost? Call her back!”
He extricates himself from her grasp and stomps forward. “Imtura! Imty! Imtura!”
She rushes over and wraps an arm around his waist. “It was a tie.”
“Well, that won’t do. The loser was supposed to buy the winner the first drink once we took down the Shadow Court!”
“You can buy each other a drink,” she suggests.
“That’s no fun at all,” he protests before brightening right up again. “Oh! We could try again tomorrow.”
Daenarya lets her head fall against his shoulder. “Please, for the love of all the Old and New Gods, don’t.”
His expression falters, and his eyes take on the sheen of a wounded doe. “Am I… Am I annoying you, kit?”
“Half of me,” she admits cheerfully. “The other half is giggling madly.”
“Oh, that’s okay then.” Mal smiles his drunken grin again. “I love it when you giggle. And laugh. And snort.”
“You love it when I snort?”
“Because you’re happy, see.” He waves his hands in the air. “’Tis like this: you don’t laugh enough. And you think I can’t tell when you cry yourself to sleep.”
“Mal…”
“But now you’re gigglin’. Or half of you is.”
Moved, she presses a tender kiss to his cheek. “You make me smile as much as I possibly can under these circumstances. Once we find Kade? It’s going to be all smiles from there.”
“You promise?”
“Cross my heart and hope to be stung by a Drakna.”
He tries to kiss her and misses by about five inches. “Hey, where did your lips go?”
“They’re still in the same place.”
“But I couldn’t find them!”
“I’ll help you find them tomorrow. As long as you no longer reek of ale.”
He gives a put-upon sigh. “Guess I’ll have to skip challenging Imtura again, then. All for a good cause.”

March Choices Prompt: I chose morning glory for your Mal and Daenarya as it represents affection, love, mortality (living life to the fullest). @choicesmonthlychallenge
In the newly merged realm, the Deadwood was slowly healing, a glorious spring defeating the long claws of death and decay, spreading new growth of maples, firs, leventrees and thousands of colourful flowers. Deep within stood an ancient temple predating the elven civilization. Its crumbling stone walls bore the weight of forgotten prayers and the echo of countless footsteps. The shrine was said to house a rune of boundless power, a fragment from the old gods.
The shrine had laid undisturbed for centuries until…
“RUN!!” Mal sprints out from the deeper recesses waving his arms wildly.
“Mal, what is it?” Daenarya looks around, alert, quickly scanning for the source of danger with a practiced eye.
Wordlessly, he grabs her hand and pulls her out and around the side of the dilapidated building, into a hidden alcove guarded by overhanging vines. He presses her to the stone wall, covering her protectively.
She can feel his heart beating wildly, clearly distressed by what he saw in the recesses of the temple.
Daenarya keeps a keen eye out for any threat even as she grows a little distracted by his warm body pressing against her. She snakes a hand up to gently pull his face towards her.
“Mal, what was it? Can we fight it off?”
He snaps out of his momentary panic and looks at her, suddenly a tad contrite, cheeks reddening.
“I... I stepped on a bees’ nest.”
Daenarya looks up at him, eyes wide.
“Bees?! That’s the big bad we’re hiding from?!”
She can’t help a small burst of laughter before his scandalized expression.
“Hey! See now, kit, these things have nasty stingers, and they were swarming angrily. I just saved us from a very unpleasant experience.”
She smirks, running her hands up his chest teasingly.
“Mal Volari, great adventurer and hero of the realm, fleeing from a swarm of ferocious, enraged bees.”
“Correction, protecting his beautiful lady and partner in adventures from said swarm of ferocious, enraged bees.”
“Ah, I see. I can already imagine the great ballads that will be written of your exploits, your magnificence. I’ll be sure to tell Kade all about it – I just know the patrons at Whitetower’s finest inns will delight in your heroics.”
“Go right ahead, kit. I’m quite confident I can spin whatever tale to my advantage.”
“I am glad to see your traumatic encounter hasn’t dented your ego.”
It’s Mal’s turn to grin, emboldened by her crystalline laughter and sparkling eyes. Gods she is beautiful. He still couldn’t believe his luck. That such a wonderful, smart, and brave woman truly wanted to share her life with him. She was his, and he was unconditionally hers.
He dips his head and captures her lips in a playful kiss, snaking his arms around her waist to pull her closer.
He kisses the corner of her lips, along her jaw, and whispers in her ear, "Daenarya, your laughter is my favorite melody."
Mal picks a bright purple morning glory from the hanging vines surrounding them and places it delicately in her hair, brushing a loose strand from her forehead.
Daenarya smiles at her handsome rogue, murmuring "how gallant," before capturing his lips in a sweet kiss.
Time stands still as they kiss languidly under the fragrant flowers, the midday sun peaking through the vines warming them.
Eventually, Daenarya pulls away with a soft sigh.
“Alright your magnificence, we’d better head back in there, unless you want to tell Tyril a couple of angry bees kept us from retrieving the rune?”
“No way – I’d never hear the end of it!”
Mal steals one last heated kiss, a promise of more to come.
“To be continued, my beautiful Daenarya.”
Hand in hand, they step back inside the temple, ready to face any evils, their easy laughter sending out joyful echoes.

Dear @lilyoffandoms,
I am so so sorry for the delay, there were more technical difficulties than I anticipated. I wanted to try something different for this event by making a lil mini-video edit based on an older TikTok trend along with a moodboard lol. Hope you like it!
What I knew about Maiele and Tyril mostly came from Dani's fics with Daenarya and Mal, but it was so much fun learning more about Maiele and Tyril from your blog since they're such a power couple!! I love that you chose this elf sprite specifically they're so underrated yet live up to the ethereal Nightbloom name <3 I'm so jealous of Maiele's sense of fashion too omg. He seems like a super charming and likable elf to be around and I can't wait to get to know him more!

I am so in love with this art of Mal and Daenarya by the always lovely @wisejazz. Look at how peaceful they are! Look at how relaxed they look! They're both safe... finally! sdjkfl I love this for them!

Summary: On the night after defeating the Dreadlord, Mal watches Daenarya sleep and reflects on his place in her life.
A/N: For @storyofmychoices, who is the Nia to our little fandom's crew. Happiest of birthdays, dear friend! Thank you for everything that you do; I hope you receive the same love you pour on everybody else.
Mal shifts restlessly under the heavy blanket, his attempts to make himself more comfortable hindered by the sheets tangling around his legs. It's been less than 24 hours since they returned from the Shadow Realm, and he can't quite make himself believe that the danger has passed yet.
Daenarya stirs in his arms, the silk of her hair sliding across his chest like water. It's so rare to see her this peaceful. His girl is a whirlwind, always in motion, always sweeping people up into her world and charming them until they want nothing more than to stay there. Mal would know - by her side is his favorite place in the world.
But while she shows that side of herself unreservedly, this is a side she shows only to him. When she closes her eyes and snuggles against him, when she lets herself sleep in his arms, Mal always feels like he's been given a precious gift. Daenarya doesn't trust easily, but she trusts Mal with herself at her most vulnerable.
He isn't a man given to fancy words, but even if he were, he still wouldn't be able to explain what her unwavering trust does to him.
He holds his breath when she stirs again, then exhales in resignation when her eyes open. "Hey, kit."
"Mal? What time is it?"
"Late. Go back to sleep."
She yawns. "Why are you awake?"
"Can't sleep," he admits. "This godsdamned bed is murder on my back."
"Yeah, it makes sense that a man who has slept in the Deadwood would find the palace bed too uncomfortable," she says dryly. "What's really going on?"
He blows out a breath. "I almost lost you."
"Oh, Mal."
"When I saw you pick up that sword and charge at the Dreadlord... I've never been so scared in my life. I never want to feel that way again."
"I was scared too."
"Really?"
"Of course. Mostly because I didn't want to hurt Nia," she acknowledges. "But also because I wasn't in any rush to die."
"Be sure to keep it that way," he says, trying to cloak it as a joke even though they both know it isn't.
"I was scared for you, too."
"You were?"
She nods. "The most scared I've been since losing Kade. The most scared I've ever been other than when I lost Kade."
He sucks in a breath. "That's... quite the proclamation."
"Don't tell me that Mal the Magnificent is afraid of a few measly feelings," she teases.
"Me? Blasphemy." He clears his throat. "And besides, it makes perfect sense. You would be crazy if you weren't scared of losing this." He gestures to himself.
"I'm going to go to sleep now."
He laughs, draping an arm across her body and settling back in. "Daenarya?"
"Hm?" Comes her sleepy murmur.
"I am, you know." When she doesn't respond, he elaborates. "Scared. I've never... I've never felt this way before."
She interlaces their fingers. "Neither have I. Isn't it lucky that we can figure it out together?"
"I am an adventurer."
"Excuse you. I think you meant to say we are adventurers."
"Yeah," he says with a soft smile. "I guess I did at that. Very well, then. Together.”

Dancing makes me think of @lovealexhunt's beautifully commissioned artwork - Mal and Daenarya after the ball and IT IS JUST TOO DAMN GORGEOUS OKAY? (I have like seventy posts saved in my drafts as reblogs and I should totally do that sometime soon lol). Honestly @hydn-jpg's art slaps, like hard bass, let's freaking go! Dani, always knocking it out of the park <3
Dagger - obviously @cassie-thorne. Ik ik too specific but I vaguely recall us just talking about daggers and weapons and cool stuff and recently there was this Ask from the playchoicesconfession account that talked about equipping the Crimes MC with something better than a taser. (MAX, CAMERON WITH KNIFE ARTWORK WHEN) and it also reminds me of this piece by @monschoices with Trystan and Sasha dressed up as the characters in Scream (1996). And Max just gives me full chaos vibes - we're all here for the chaos!
Seaside gives me just full @peonierose vibes. I'm just so behind on catching up with Peonie's work, but the last I hear, Luna and Bryce are living their sandy, beachy dreams up! There was this cute little fic where while they're picking out cakes, Bryce and Luna discover they're pregnant and it's just the wholesomest, feel-goodest fic on this earth. Plus, Peonie as a person just makes me associate with beaches, just the warmth of a nice summer's day.
New York is just @jerzwriter XD! Legit! It's synonymous almost! Ik you're from New Jersey, but you get the trademark New York culture, which is just so evident in your Crimes fics. I love them! I love how Carolina's got this wit and charm that's this cleverly calculated thing that helps her navigate tough situations but she is absolutely unafraid to hurl someone in front of a subway train in the slightest and yes, Trystan should be scared. I'd love to visit NYC someday!
Bakery gives me @peonyblossom solely because of the queer coffee shop vibes. I'm pretty sure they have a coffee shop AU and I'm just that terrible to not have gotten to it sooner XD. But honestly, yes, if we're going by vibes and vibes alone, just the atmosphere of a cornerstore bakery. It's very tough to pinpoint to one thing lol!
Vinyl records is just screaming @mydemonsdrivealimo (I don't know if I should be envious of Jensen that he gets to wear cool frickin outfits and just cook up a storm on the performing stage or if I should just sit back and wish why he weren't an actual musician I can binge-listen to on Spotify XD) but seriously, just impeccable of the impeccable-est music tastes ever.
Screaming reminds me of this Aerin x MC artwork by @oh-so-youre-a-nerd and IT'S NOTHING SHORT OF A MASTERPIECE (once again, I'm so behind on reblogging the coolest art and fics that I come across). I haven't seen the Witcher, but just Aerin "Sadboi" Valleros screaming out of his lungs is just a mood (mood I say, when it's heart-wrenching lmao). But damn, they knock it out of the whole freaking universe with their impeccable art! I'm just gonna sit here in awe and doom-scroll through their stuff right now.
