Mal loving to kiss and squish Rayas cheeks because he finds her adorable.
I like to think Mal has apologized profusely to Raya for hurting her because of how he treated her when she came back. He’s been opening up more, warmly embracing her every chance he gets. He wants to let her know he will always protect her.
Side note: I have been feeling very unmotivated to create blades art recently mostly because it’s discouraging sometimes when you feel like you still aren’t skilled enough. Making art for blades is something I enjoy but when Im constantly focusing on improving and creating content it just tires me out. I do have a drawing idea I’m planning but it’s hard to find a reference that inspires me

First of all this chapter was absolutely amazing and im loving what theyre doing with Shadow Nia.
Second of all, are we not gonna talk about the fact that Valax said she only had us for two weeks? And I don't think she was lying either, she's not really the type. What does that mean? Was there really a time dilation? Were we somewhere else?
My theory is that we were with the Watched and he has something to do with all these shenanigans
THIRD of all
I'm gonna be thinking about this for the next week. The second screenshot also really feels like foreshadowing, either for a big sacrifice Mal is going to make, or the reveal of one that he's made already. And if it's the former and he's gonna make some big sacrifice I think there's a 50/50 chance he's gonna make it OR MC is gonna step in at the last second and do it instead. The devs did say this is Mal's book in the way that last book was Nia's....

next chapter's summary makes me think this is unlikely but i hope mal loses his shit next chapter. he was already on the edge of losing his shit all day today (trying to kill valax, the talks about his fear of fucking up, even if u don't romance him and don't take the diamond scenes) and it draws my attention that the last panel was not MC being swept by the tide but mal's reaction to it (again, regardless of whether or not you romance him)
it's pretty clear to me that mal is fucking terrified of losing MC (or any of his friends) again and he's already carrying survivor's guilt the size of god, made worse by the fact that he's blaming himself for shadow nia. so to (possibly) lose MC again when he was right next to them? i really think it might cause a full breakdown, possibly of the crying variety but, from everything we've seen, most likely of the desperately violent, willing to do anything variety. i wanna see him jump right into the tide and almost get himself killed again. i wanna see him tear the shadow realm apart until he finally founds MC again (since the summary implies MC gets lost from the rest of the group). i wanna see him find MC and immediately try to fucking kill valax
and all I'm saying is: if there was ever a time for a shadow!mal reveal.....

The moon hangs low in the sky, its red-white glow granting the night an ethereal feel. In the woods beneath, two figures lean on each other, hands clutching and grasping, their faces close enough to kiss.
It would be more romantic if they were leaning on one another out of desire instead of necessity.
“An earthquake!” Mal exclaims, his head swinging wildly. “Quick, kit, take cover!”
Daenarya barely manages to catch him before he sends them both tumbling to the ground. She doesn’t even attempt to contain the bubble of laughter tickling her throat. “It’s not an earthquake, Mal. It’s the result of one too many glasses of ale.”
“Why Kit, I never!” Indignant, he jabs a finger and nearly takes her eye out. “I am insulted. Offended. No, appalled at your insinuation.” She captures his finger, giving it a playful nip and a quick kiss, all the while giggling at her foolish rogue.
“Not so much an insinuation as an expression of fact, Your Magnificence. I did tell you to pace yourself.”
“But it was a ce-celebration!” He hiccups. “We made it out of the Deadwood! We had to commemorate the occasion!”
She pats his shoulder a little too hard. “That doesn’t mean you and Imtura had to challenge each other to see who could, er, commemorate more.”
He laughs uproariously, then comes to an abrupt stop before turning in a circle. Daenarya stumbles. “Where is Imtura?”
“Probably giving Tyril as much trouble as you’re giving me.”
“But we never reached a consainsos… conshensus… con-sen-sus,” he corrects, slurring over each syllable. “Who won? Who lost? Call her back!”
He extricates himself from her grasp and stomps forward. “Imtura! Imty! Imtura!”
She rushes over and wraps an arm around his waist. “It was a tie.”
“Well, that won’t do. The loser was supposed to buy the winner the first drink once we took down the Shadow Court!”
“You can buy each other a drink,” she suggests.
“That’s no fun at all,” he protests before brightening right up again. “Oh! We could try again tomorrow.”
Daenarya lets her head fall against his shoulder. “Please, for the love of all the Old and New Gods, don’t.”
His expression falters, and his eyes take on the sheen of a wounded doe. “Am I… Am I annoying you, kit?”
“Half of me,” she admits cheerfully. “The other half is giggling madly.”
“Oh, that’s okay then.” Mal smiles his drunken grin again. “I love it when you giggle. And laugh. And snort.”
“You love it when I snort?”
“Because you’re happy, see.” He waves his hands in the air. “’Tis like this: you don’t laugh enough. And you think I can’t tell when you cry yourself to sleep.”
“Mal…”
“But now you’re gigglin’. Or half of you is.”
Moved, she presses a tender kiss to his cheek. “You make me smile as much as I possibly can under these circumstances. Once we find Kade? It’s going to be all smiles from there.”
“You promise?”
“Cross my heart and hope to be stung by a Drakna.”
He tries to kiss her and misses by about five inches. “Hey, where did your lips go?”
“They’re still in the same place.”
“But I couldn’t find them!”
“I’ll help you find them tomorrow. As long as you no longer reek of ale.”
He gives a put-upon sigh. “Guess I’ll have to skip challenging Imtura again, then. All for a good cause.”
