I finished A Light in the Mist a little while ago and I had an idea to make the ending more cool and fun

Leafpool, somber expression: “I’m sorry Shadowsight. You were never meant to walk with Starclan, only with Shadow.”
Leafpool, smiling: “However...”
Leafpool (referring to Sparrowfeather, Silverhawk, and Maggottail standing together): “It seems to me that some who walk with shadow make for good company. Perhaps you can use your gift to help them find their way to the stars?”
Shadowsight’s eyes are wide in amazement.
Shadowsight turns his head, smiling wide, tears in his eyes: “Of course I will!”

It didn’t make total sense to me that Shadowsight would only have a spiritual connection with Ashfur, a cat he’d never met in life, and nobody else at all. So I said “What if his connection was with the whole dark forest instead?”
After the events of TBC, Shadowsight would still participate in half-moon meetings, but instead of communing with Starclan, he’d check up on the spirits in the Dark Forest. Every month, he could reach out to troubled souls and try to help them find peace, redemption, or whatever it is they need to pass over into Starclan. Of course, some spirits like Mapleshade of Thistleclaw will never accept his help, but the Dark Forest doesn’t have to be a sentence to eternity anymore. I also suspect the spirits that won’t accept Shadowsight’s help could still be dangerous if he encounters them - Mothwing could watch over him and wake him up if she notices something’s wrong in the living world, and/or cousin Juniperclaw could be the bodyguard to his spirit form.

i really thought that they were going to have this arc focus on df redemption because of how lame and unsatisfactory the answer of "oh sorry we cant let them in because uhmm they did something mean generations ago or something and theyre already dead so it doesnt matter" was (esp after all the build up of seeing the df residents show that they CAN be good and help the protags and whatnot) and i really wish they would've gone that route. tbh i think it would've been cool if one of the perspectives was from a starclan/df cat it would've been a breath of fresh air. but instead we got flamepaw 😒
i know exactly what you mean but my mind immediately went that there's a correlation between nightheart existing and the df cats being told they can't go to starclan

Honestly I don’t want to see canon backstories for DF cats like Snowtuft and Houndleap and Maggottail. These characters are all interesting and them having no backstory allows many fans to make their own interpretations on what they did to get there. Plus knowing the Erins if they tried to make up backstories for them they’d just end up ruining the characters. The only DF cat so far that has an interesting backstory that we haven’t fully seen yet belongs to Silverhawk.

MaggotTail! I love the concept of him but I definitely hate how the authors don’t explore some of the background characters in the Dark Forest. A lot of these guys are really interesting!
MaggotTail headcannons!
- MaggotTail is bowl legged.
- He wasn’t always named MaggotTail. He doesn’t remember a lot from his life but he is certain that he wasn’t born with the name MaggotTail.
- MaggotTail died when he was old and he is one of the older Dark Forest spirits.
- Despite hating BrokenStar, TigerStar and MapleShades authority he did join AshFurs side in the end after he gives him the idea of possessing a new body.
- MaggotTail is a ThunderClan cat.
