Songs of the Summer, 2023: #10
[intro & rules]
Blister by Clara Cava & Kaeve (May 4, 2023)
this is an ode to having Our Table, at the coffee shop, (and to the drives I know so well, the ones I could—and do, perhaps inadvisably—make while crying, or while half-asleep at the wheel because the depression would like us to not exist anymore, please, the ones that take me home before I even stop to think about where I'm going) it’s nice to have favorite things, I think “Having a favorite person is overrated,” I say, lighthearted, and ask what kind of drink you’d like. “Instead, I have a favorite macaron.” (the thai iced tea ones, in the box of thirty-six from the big freezer at the grocery store by our old school)
--
Clara Cava keeps winning, which is good because it’s an absolute crime that I hadn’t done a proper review of any of the many songs I love from her on this blog yet—no “No Vaya a la Fiesta”, no “Cosa Suya”, no “Protagonista”, no “Te Pense un Monton” (or the 8-bit version, which is awesome, too!!).
So, I’m very happy about this addition, but I still kind of can’t believe a song that’s basically a Mario Kart OST—every time I hear its instrumental, I can’t help but think of that water park racetrack from the mushroom cup??—became one of my favorite songs of the summer, and of the year for good measure. Hell, this song technically came out a couple of weeks before my summer started, but I’ve loved it enough this summer to make an exception to my own rules and put this on the main list. I’m obsessed with “Blister”—even after four months of leaving this one on repeat, I still find myself craving it—and, by some miracle, Kaeve’s voice hasn’t even started irritating me yet.
The atmosphere of “Blister” just works. It’s yet another embarrassingly chill addition to this list, but it’s such an easy song to like—the Mario Kart nostalgia & my emotional attachment to Clara Cava’s voice (which you can thank “Cosa Suya” and “Protagonista” for) certainly help it out, but even without my personal reasons to love it, “Blister” has this sweet, genuine innocence to it that combines unexpectedly well with its produced-in-a-garage aesthetic. It’s just messy enough to balance out the sugar-sweetness of Clara Cava’s performance and the fluffiness of the instrumentals, so the whole song comes out irresistibly charming. I have no idea if this got any traction at all on TikTok, its my bedroom-pop TikTok hit of the year. I didn’t put Clara Cava Mario Kart lofi on my 2023 bingo board, but you’d better believe I’ll be putting it on next year’s in the hopes we can get something like this again!

a lip balm review
Tarte Sugar Rush Best Bud Lip Butter Balm:this one smells like HEAVEN! i am not exaggerating. its too good to be true. however, as someone with chronically severe chapped lips i found this works best on already smooth lips. This may not be a dealbreaker for someone whose lips arent severely dehydrated or chapped but for me, it kinda is. not that it doesnt work at all on dry lips, but it takes a few coats and a few hours to get soft lips. another thing i didnt like is that it irritated the skin around my lips. as long as i didnt overline the edges of my lips with it I wouldnt get blisters
The Crème Shop Hello Kitty Macaron Lip Balm: at first it was the same as the first lip balm, tarte best bud. While it works better on already soft lips it was a bit better at softening the dry skin. It has the same texture of vaseline so it felt like it was sitting on top of my lips at first, but eventually the dry skin did start coming off. now its a lip balm i use everyday.
kaja mood balm:  life changing. lip changing. while im not a huge fan of the tint (i told you my lips dry ridiculously fast, the color tint will stay on my dry chapped lips and it looks patchy) it is very very good as softening the dry skin. the softest my lips have been is with  a kaja lip balm.
kaja bento balm: talented brilliant amazing spectacular one of a kind.  by far the best one i tried. it softens the dry skin on my lips SO FAST! you dont understand. the other two balms may have made the skin less rough but this balm, this balm makes it OBSOLETE. it makes my lips WHOLE again. it makes dry skin so easy to peel off. i dont even need the lip scrub it comes with, but it certainly is a plus. the lip scrub smells like strawberry, tastes like sugar, and when it melts it has a bit of a buttery feel, perfect prep for the lip balm.

chapter vi
warning : major spoiler gameplay, mention of blood, fighting, drinking behavior, sibling quarrels, unrequited love, arranged marriage, strained relationship between major characters (earlier chapter) and major character death (upcoming chapters)
Tumblr media
Ignis loves the way your lips curling up at a sight of small Pomeranian at the side road. You will fight your fear of social interaction with stranger who can harm you outside of Citadel just to give it a small belly rub. The owner usually won't mind about it and it makes you more than happy to see the puppy squealing at you.
Your eyes will be full of stars when there's a stock of macaron at your favourite pastry shop. You will carefully sneak in to buy two more boxes to eat as a late night snack after dinner time at your room. You keep getting caught by Ignis, who'll point at colourful crumbles on the corner of your lips. You will counter it with a small 'brain fuel' before asking him to let you go this time.
You love tending and arranging flowers, a habit you picked from Lunafreya. You will carefully cut the dead leaves and twigs with your silver pair of shears that you got as a present from a foreign land during your visit. The first time you learnt about it — you were more than disappointed when learning about its death, having Lunafreya to calm you down by gifting you another pot of flower to take care of.
You still have a hard time to walk properly like Noctis after the incident that occurred during your childhood. If Noctis will need to stop by once in a while to massage his knees, you'll need more time to recover your stamina because you keep focusing it on your legs to keep up with the rest of team.
Your hand.. it's something Ignis never paid attention to before. When he held it for the first time during the camp, he loves the way your fingers twitch slightly during your sleep and curling up against his. Your skin isn't as soft as when you were small, but it's soft enough to not having any callous or scar.
He's more than nervous when having you in his room — let alone taking off your stockings, you never had a cup of tea with him. He gulps down his nervousness, hoping it won't be noticed by you before he starts to untie your boots.
It was a pair of black leather boots with red soles. The heel is a bit tall for his taste and your safety. He's wondering how you can run and keep up with them while wearing this. The straps aren't any better, he's sure that this small dent on your skin is caused by bells that hanging on it.
No worries, Ignis. You did fine work. Now, the stockings..
He asks for your permission, raising your skirt a bit and let it rest against your upper thigh. He starts to clip off the straps from the stockings carefully, not wanting to hurt your skin.
Astrals, please forgive this man for his inappropriate behaviour!
He begins to peel off your stocking, feeling your skin against his in the process before he stops in the mid — trying to cool off his head and calm down his heart. Then, taking it off completely before doing the same to the other pair.
He can't help but frown at the small marks of blisters on your feet, knowing how painful it can be if left unattended. He begins to put a generous amount of ointment over your injuries, hoping this time you'll understand that he's worried about your well-being and stop doing something that can danger it.
Wanting to make sure you'll be alright, he asks for you to stand up — holding onto him in case you're falling. He places his hand over your waist to steady you up and the other over your back.
Suddenly, you're looking deep into his eyes — giving him an alarm for various negative possibilities that can happen, ranging from a scoff to throwing a tantrum. He's expecting the latter and prepares for it, only to find it something else.
It's a.. giggle? A very sweet one, indeed
Your eyes turn into a pair of crescents and cheeks getting rosy. You're so close, making him a bit nervous about how he can feel your chest pressed into his. He asks what you're laughing about, thinking that he might look silly from your point of view or maybe there's a food stain on his collar.
Instead, you're talking about having beauty marks and freckles as gifts from the Astrals. He's a bit embarrassed about it because he always try to cover and remove them, feeling it won't look good as a nobleman to have one — yet, he has many of them.
"I appreciate the compliment, Highness," he tries to suppress a smile, but failing at the end.
He never saw, touched or held you this close. It's far beyond his bubble to hold you in his arms — but, it's more than a great thing for him to do. He can see some of the late king and queen's features on you, something that might bring his uncle to tears if he sees you in Insomnia.
You still hold Caelum distinctive characteristic, dark hair and black eyes with fair skin. But, you have a youthful and refreshing image, almost like the splitting image of your mother during her young age from what he has heard.
"How's your feet?" You tell him that you feel better because of the ointment he gave earlier and can walk better, but still in need of a better shoes to wear.
Even if you want to buy one, it'll be a bit hard because your existence is a secret. So, he told you that he'll make sure to bandage your feet but making it not too tight or thick so you can slip into your boots easily.
He helps to put your stockings back and clip the garter, noticing a glimpse of your luscious thighs before wearing your shoes on, carefully not to give any pressure on your injury.
"Better?" He asks, looking deep into your eyes but then it keeps getting lower and stop right on your lips — a perfect combination of peach and rose, slightly shiny because of your gloss.
"Yeah," you reply before his hand land down on your cheek, pressing your lower lip with his thumb to part it. "Ignis?" You call out, feeling confused about his behaviour before he breaks away from.
"Ah, I'm— Please, forgive me," he says before he looks at your hand grabbing his wrist. You're looking at him with those rosy cheeks and shifting your gaze away from him, making him almost going crazy at such a look. Almost.
"You can do whatever you want," he widens his eyes at you, who looks flustered about it. "As long as you have my consent, of course," you reply before he sigh in relief with your common sense and rests his hand against the same spot, getting closer than before.
"May I.. kiss you, Highness?" He gulps down, keeping his eyes on yours before you give him a nod and place your hands above his.
He's nervous for sure — yet, you're not any different. You haven't had your first kiss — let alone that, you haven't been in one proper, romantic relationship like people around you age has aside with this engagement with Ignis. His breath is warm and smells of coffee (you hate it, but you won't let it become the reason why you won't kiss him). He has a faint smell of cinnamon lingering around with sandalwood perfume he always put on.
He presses his lips over yours tenderly — enjoying the feeling that envelopes him. You taste sweet like the strawberry shortcake you always eat secretly before and after meal with Prompto's help. Ignis knows it — but, he turns a blind eye to keep you away from throwing a tantrum. You seem breathless, so he pulls away and gives you time to take a breath.
"Easy there, darling," he presses his forehead against yours, closing his eyes to focus on your scent — always sweet and intoxicating, making him afraid that you might kill him for being around his side.
He pulls you to rest against his chest, giving you a space to lean on him. Your hands are draped over his thigh and he's not sure if you're aware of how close they are to his pelvis. There's no complaint, cry, yell nor tantrum from your lips — only a pure comforting silence for both of you.

write gojo taking care of his sick girlfriend
Her fever burned high—high enough that it broke the dam of sleep and woke Gojo up. He blinked blearily against the darkness and shifted so he was on his elbow, turning Y/N around gently. Her skin blistered beneath his cool hand, sweat pooling along her hairline and down her neck.
“Oi,” he shook her lightly. “Wake up. You’re dying.”
She groaned, kicking her leg feebly in his direction. Gojo laughed, pulling the sheet back and exposing her to the cold. He rolled Y/N over, lifting the sweat soaked bedsheets with one hand as he balanced her against his knee.
The sudden motion caused Y/N to wake. Her brow formed a wrinkled line as her lids lifted heavily. “It’s nighttime?”
“Shh, you’re dreaming,” he said, but it wasn’t enough to but her back to sleep. She shifted, sitting up and looked around the room. Her head hung heavy, rolling forward before it snapped back up. “You’ve got a bit of a fever.”
“It’s my latest attempt at killing you,” she muttered. Her hands pressed against her eyes, holding tightly.
“Bathroom?”
“Yes, please.”
He hauled her up, arm around her waist as they walked toward the bathroom. She stumbled into the doorway, heading straight to the toilet, before glaring at him through the dark. “Go do something useful.”
“Is that anyway to speak to the world’s stro—”
“So, help me god, Satoru—” He left before she could finish her threat, laughing as he heard something crash in the bathroom and then her hushed cursing. Stripping the bed sheets, he changed them and then head to the kitchen to grab some water and aspirin. He balanced two water bottles and the medicine in one hand, grabbing a box of fresh macarons in the other.
When he arrived, Y/N was out of her old clothes, wearing one of his old shirts and a pair of pajama bottoms he vaguely remembered her wearing in high school.
“Can you kill me?” she asked staring at him from the corner of her eye. He tossed her medicine, cackling loudly when it hit her cheek and handed her the water bottle. She drank eagerly, as if it would set out the fire running through her veins. As she slowed, she noticed the box of macarons and shot him a glare. He held one up, asking silently if she wanted one.
Speaking around the food in his mouth, he said, “I’m convinced you’re cursed—not like an actual one, but like some sort of past-life bad luck.”
“I must have killed the emperor to end up with you,” she muttered, pulling the covers over her head. He laughed, leaning against the headboard to watch as she fell right back to sleep. It wasn’t often that Y/N needed something from him. It was what drew him to her in the first place, that fierce independence that often them left them at odds with one another when they did need to work together, but years had tempered their understanding to the point where they could work around one another without ever crossing hairs.
But the soft quiet moments when she did need him, he was there without any words passing between each other. His hand brushed against the back of her head, tangling his fingers in her hair if only to feel how it brushed against his skin, soft and hers.
A/N: Any grammar mistakes are cause I’m also working and English is like my third language, don't judge me

Meet Luna
Tumblr media
Art by the lovely @canadianchocolatekat
Tumblr media
template by @/heartslabuil on twitter
Introduction
Luna offers a dream-like reprieve for any visitors who wander into the Garden of Dreams. A reprieve can take many forms, whether it be a nice manicure session, tea time with sweets, weaving a story which acts as a gate to another world, browsing a quaint flower shop, or perhaps some late night baking when no one else is in the kitchen! Generally kind and excited to entertain guests, but those who break the rules and try to taint the dreams will be swiftly punished with the mallet. It might resemble a fluffy roll cake but punishment is anything but sweet.
Status
Pronouns: she/her and they/them
Most likely villain origin story: group work with inconsiderate classmates
Favourite characters: Trey Clover, Vil Schoenheit, and Malleus Draconia and begrudgingly Leona
More about Luna
Has questionable time management skills! Is it because time flows differently in dreams? No matter how many schedules are made, nothing seems to smoothly follow the laid out timeline
A true night owl—something about staying up until the AM hours is so much easier than getting up early!
Loves to bake but questionable time management and night owl tendencies result in quite a few baking projects going late into the night and not all end at 12 AM
Her favourite dessert changes all the time. In general, she adores coffee ice cream (custard base) and brigadeiros on any given day, but her preference changes. Last month it was macarons, the month before chocolate chip cookies, and right now it’s strawberry shortcake!
Not a fan of hot days and would rather deal with snow than blistering heart. Their preference would be a peaceful autumn day with the sun peeking through the clouds, or even a sunny afternoon in the spring with a cool breeze

A Soulmate for Christmas - 4
< Previous
Marinette rushed through the hallways to the kitchen. She’d been absent for far too long. Hopefully, Maman hadn’t sent out a search party to find her yet. Sometimes, she worried too much.
Not this time, apparently. When Marinette finally returned to the kitchen, Sabine was giving her work to another server with a smile on her face. "Take these next, dear.”
"Oh. Coconut. I love those. May I steal one?"
Marinette froze. That... was not a server.
Adrien gave her mother the most killer set of puppy eyes she’d ever seen, picking the tray up. His jacket was gone, leaving him sporting only a shirt and a vest, just like all the other male servers at the party. Only his were of much better quality.
Sabine offered him a macaroon from her board. "Take this one and leave the arranged ones for the guests." Her gaze finally caught Marinette. "Sweetheart. There you are. I was starting to worry."
"I got caught up with something. I’m sorry, Maman. I’ll get right to it." Marinette walked closer, looking at Adrien. "What are you doing here?"
"Helping." He shoved the macaron into his mouth and chewed. "Your mother was looking for you, and since I’m pretty sure it’s my fault you were missing, I thought it was only fair for me to help out."
"Thanks, but I’m here now. You can go."
"As you wish." The tray in his hands, Adrien turned to the exit and was gone before Marinette could object.
“Such a nice young man,” Sabine said as soon as they were left alone. “We’d better think about how we can thank him. He’s been helping me for the last fifteen minutes. Can you imagine? Just walked in, asked about you, and offered to help. I’ll leave him some macarons. He seems to have a sweet tooth. Speaking of which… I think the next batch is done. Where did I put those oven mittens?"
Marinette nibbled on her lip. How much had he said? Maman knew about her soulmate, but she didn’t seem to realize that he was Adrien. How did she even not recognize he was Adrien Agreste, the boy whose photos had been plastered all over Marinette’s room for ages?
"Did… he tell you anything about himself?"
"Just that he’s your friend,” Sabine answered, taking the pastries out of the oven. “Why? Is there anything—"
A loud thud echoed through the room as the baking sheet her mother was just taking out hit the ground. Sabine pushed the young girl who was working beside her away from a pot of hot, steaming liquid that was falling sideways. The girl stumbled backwards and fell to the ground. Sabine wasn't as fortunate. She tried to dodge but was a moment too late as the boiling liquid splashed all over her hands, scalding the skin.
"Maman!" Marinette rushed to the woman.
“I’m so sorry,” the girl almost cried from the side. “I didn’t mean to… I don't know how it slipped. I—”
Marinette didn't listen, rushing her mother to the nearest sink. She turned the tap on, made sure the water was cool, and put Sabine’s reddening hands under the stream. Her mother sighed with relief. The girl she saved quickly got to cleaning as she continued to apologize. Sabine tried to play it down, insisting it wasn’t a big deal and she would be back to working in no time. Yet a few minutes later, her skin started to blister.
“You’re going home, Maman. This needs to be treated.”
“Marinette, I can’t,” Sabine spoke quietly. “We have a contract to honour…"
"I’ll deal with it. You’re going home. You can’t work like that."
"But—"
"No objections. I’m calling someone right now to take you home. I’ll finish this on my own."
"What happened?" Adrien materialized by her side. One look at her mother’s hands and he was pulling out his cellphone. “My driver can take her straight to a hospital.”
Sabine tried to protest but neither of them listened.
“It doesn't look that bad, but maybe you’re right. Taking extra precaution wouldn't hurt.”
“It never does. I'll tell him to stay with her and drive her home after. If she needs any prescriptions, he’ll take care of that too.”
And there he was. That caring man Kagami and Chloe had told her about was shining through, not hesitating to help others, even if that meant sacrificing his own comfort for those who needed help.
“Okay.” He put his device away. “Gorilla will be by the rear entrance in a few minutes. Let’s wrap her hands and get her there.”
Before Marinette could concentrate on what to do, Adrien found a pair of clean kitchen towels and soaked them in cool water. They wrapped them around Sabine’s hands and headed to the appointed place. Five minutes later, the largest man Marinette had ever seen was driving her mother away.
“She’ll be fine,” Adrien spoke, standing right behind her. “Gorilla will keep us updated on what's happening.”
She couldn't even raise her eyes to look at him. How could he be so kind to her after the way she treated him just now? Marinette clutched her hands together, whispering instead, “Thank you.”
"No worries,” Adrien replied, hesitantly reaching for her shoulder. A few gentle pats for reassurance, and he withdrew. “I believe we have a job to do. Shall we get to it, my Lady? I’m almost out of macarons to serve.”
She turned around, arching her eyebrow. Not that she didn't like the nickname, but they haven't even talked yet. When did she become his Lady? What was up with that cocky, smouldering look on his face, and why were there crumbs all over his vest?
"You’d have macarons to serve if you stopped eating them." She pointed to the evidence.
"But they are delicious."
"They are for guests."
"And I am one."
"Then why are you here, parading as help?"
He leaned closer, their noses almost touching as he grinned. "Because my Lady needs help, and as her cat, I cannot refuse."
That arrogant smirk! She both loved and hated it. Wanted to smack him and kiss those lips of his. He was so much nicer in her imagination. His friends described him as a saint. Not this annoying, cocky dork!
"Don’t get in my way, or you’re out." She turned around and stomped to their bakery station in the kitchen. There was too much work still to do. Marinette wasn’t even sure where to start. Thankfully, the girl had cleaned the mess. Perhaps, Marinette should start with seeing what ingredients they still have to figure out what to make. Wasn't there a list Maman made? Where did it go?
A pair of arms wrapped around her from behind. Adrien leaned down and whispered in her ear, "Close your eyes."
"I don’t have time for this."
"I know, but trust me. Close your eyes. Please."
She grumbled but obliged him. The quicker she did whatever it was he wanted, the faster she could continue. If only his touch and closeness didn’t send her heart into overdrive…
"Now, breathe in. Deep and slow."
She did, oxygen filling every part of her lungs.
"Breathe out. Slowly."
She let it all out and followed Adrien’s instructions a few more times until he tenderly kissed the crown of her head. "Now, let’s do this. You bake and assemble. I serve. And afterwards, perhaps, you’ll give me a chance to explain everything."
She opened her eyes, exhaustion and the chaos in her mind somewhat subdued. "You don’t give up, do you?"
"I’ve waited for far too many years to let a simple misunderstanding stand in my way."
***
"I think this is the last of it," Marinette stuffed the last few mixing bowls in the trunk of her car. "Thank you… for everything. I know it’s cliché, but I couldn’t have done this without you."
"Perhaps, you’ll let me explain the situation as a reward for all my hard work?"
His cellphone rang. Adrien glanced at the screen and refused the call. "It’s Chloe. I’ll call her back. So, my reward?"
His phone rang again, Adrien refused the call once more and looked at Marinette. "Please? It won’t take long."
"Your friends—"
The pestering sound split the space between them for the third time.
Marinette smiled at him."Take it."
"I don’t want—"
"I’ll wait. I promise. Take it."
He pressed the button and put the speaker on, the familiar voice of Chloe Bourgeois filling the space. "Adrinkins, you’d better have a good explanation for hanging up on me."
"I'm kind of in the middle of something right now," Adrien said. "Do you mind if I call you back in a bit?"
"Okay, fine. But just so you know, while you were prowling about, we put on a show, and Gami’s living with me now."
"I’ve been officially disowned," Kagami deadpanned. "You may congratulate me now."
"Welcome to the club?" Adrien chuckled. "I was hoping she would be more reasonable."
"She’ll come around eventually… maybe," Kagami said. "She thinks it’s one of those childish desires of mine, and I’ll come to my senses soon enough."
"But you two are soulmates? You have the marks to prove it."
"Soulmate marks or not, I’m not what Tomoe Tsurugi considers ‘best’ for their family," Chloe answered. "And I’m sure I don’t have to explain that woman’s obsession with ‘sacrificing in the family’s name’ to you. Oh! Before I forget. You were adorable as a waiter, Adrinkins. I’ve snapped a few pictures. Will post to our group chat later."
"Sure. Is that all? Can I go now?"
"Tell him about Marinette," Kagami whispered. "About our conversation."
"Oh, right," Chloe grumbled. "We told your lady-love everything. About Kagami and you and me and all the fake-ness of your engagement and non-existence of your dating life. If she knows what’s good for her, you should be good."
Adrien’s eyes locked on Marinette. "You told her everything?"
"We spared her the sappy stories of you being depressed for months at a time over the whole ‘can’t find my soulmate’ thing," Kagami replied.
“The constant, crying phone calls,” Chloe added. “The ice cream we had to bring over to our ‘Find the Ladybug’ brainstorming sessions.”
“All the pep talks we’ve given you,” Kagami finished. “And the few private detectives you hired to find her. Otherwise, you have no secrets from her now."
"You’re welcome, Adrinkins! Now, go. Adios. Call us when you get a date. We’ll celebrate."
"I will." Adrien ended the call. A blush raged across his cheeks as he lifted his eyes to Marinette. "So, uh... that’s why you didn’t kick my ass out of the kitchen?"
"You have good friends." Marinette smiled. "They care about you a lot."
"Does that mean I’m forgiven?"
She nodded. "Only if you forgive me for freaking out on you."
He grabbed her hand, bringing it to the lovesick grin on his lips. "I never held that against you. You had all the rights in the universe to be pissed at me."
His lips brushed against her hand, the mark of a black cat lighting up the space around them. "I know we haven't known each other for that long, but we aren't soulmates for nothing. I really like you. You're driven and passionate. Kind and creative. You value family and are an amazing cook. Perhaps fate knew a thing or two when it paired us together. I’d really love a chance to get to know you better, Marinette."
His eyes sparkled with hope, a slight undercurrent of worry lurking beneath. Marinette couldn’t refuse him even if she wanted to. He really did seem like a great guy. "I’d like that too. You aren’t so bad yourself. Not perfect, but decent enough."
It was a total lie because who was she kidding? He was perfect! Didn’t mean she wanted to feed that already inflated ego of his.
"Really?" He leaned forward. "So, all my fame, looks, and money don’t make me perfect in your eyes?"
Marinette huffed, pulling her hand away just so she could push his way-too-close face away with her finger. "Not even close,” she teased, tapping his nose. “You’re standing here only because of what your friends told me."
"Share. What did they say about me?"
She let out a giggle. "Nothing too horrible."
"Well, now, you’re scaring me. Did they tell you about my feather allergies?"
"Nope, but you just did."
"Lactose intolerance?"
She chuckled. "Wrong again."
"Social inadequacy?"
Marinette couldn’t hold back a laugh.
"I'm low-key freaking out. What did those two say?"
She took a moment to calm down before replying. "They told me about your big, kind heart, one that doesn't think twice about sacrificing its own desires and comfort for the sake of others. I saw it for myself today when you helped my mother. That’s precious and rare. I like that."
He looked at her in awe for a moment before blurting out, "Can I kiss you right now, or do I have to wait until our first official date?"
Marinette laughed again. "You should’ve just gone for it. Now, the moment’s ruined."
"Ugh, bummer." Adrien mockingly pouted. "Then, tell me, what are you doing for Christmas this year?"
"Nursing my parents back to health."
"Would you mind some company?"
"Don’t you have your family to spend Christmas with?"
He shrugged. "Not really. My father has become a Grinch since… well, since Mom passed away. And I’m sure Chloe and Kagami wouldn’t mind if their third wheel would finally leave them alone."
"They did mention you aren’t on the best terms with your father."
Adrien sighed, leaning on her car. "We aren’t officially feuding or anything. It’s just that… when Mom passed away, Father became very controlling and demanding, stripped me of all freedom, and loaded me with work. I was just a kid; I couldn’t do much about it. Two years ago, I got access to the fund my mom left me, so I moved out. I still work for him, but at least he doesn’t control my every move anymore."
"It doesn’t sound like you’re much of a family, to be honest."
His smile was bittersweet. "Not that I wanted it to be this way. It’s… complicated."
Perhaps she was naive, but Marinette couldn’t imagine having a living father and wanting nothing to do with him. "Do you think you'd want to reconnect with him someday?"
Adrien shrugged. "Not sure anymore. He used to be a great dad when I was little. The three of us had so much fun together…" A smile briefly touched his lips as Adrien paused for a moment. "I always thought if I behaved and did everything he wanted, he’d snap out of whatever it is that made him so cold but… it never happened. With time, I just gave up on even trying." Turning her way, he reached for her hand, gently cradling it in his. "I’d rather spend my time and energy on someone who wants to get to know me as much as I want to get to know them. Like you, for example. Perhaps tomorrow? Helping you nurse your parents back to health?"
Her heart skipped a bit, and he hadn’t even done anything more than look at her and hold her hand. “Okay.”
He brought her hand to his lips again, enjoying the view of a glowing cat on her skin. "I’ll have to give you a Christmas gift later, though. Pretty sure I won’t be able to find anything at such late notice."
"Don't worry about it. I already got everything I ever wanted."
The chime of the clock thundered through the night air, announcing midnight. Adrien looked its way, murmuring something about turning back into a pumpkin. Marinette wasn’t sure why, but she reached forward, hesitantly laying her hand on his chest. The mark underneath his shirt glowed, its light reflecting in his eyes as he looked back at her with the gentlest of gazes. She couldn’t take her eyes away even if she wanted to because the man before her was a far cry from what she’d ever imagined him to be. She was a goner already, and she didn’t care. The feeling in her chest was just too pleasant. Warm. Fuzzy. Addicting. Something stronger and deeper than anything she’d ever experienced. Something much more beautiful and meaningful than a teenage crush.
She couldn’t help herself. Marinette stood on her tiptoes and pulled Adrien down for a tender brush of her lips against his cheek.
He looked at her with wide-opened eyes and a deep blush spreading across his face. "I…um… I didn’t… expect that."
"Is that okay?"
He feverishly nodded. "Yes! More than okay. A lot more okay than all the okays in the world. May I… may I return the gesture?"
"Please.”
He leaned down, aiming for her cheek. Somehow he missed, his lips landing on hers. Neither of them seemed to mind, treating each other to the sweetest kiss one could imagine. Pulling back slightly, Adrien rested his forehead against hers, his eyes locked on hers.
"A soulmate for Christmas. Best present ever."
If Marinette’s heart wasn’t in overdrive before, it sure was now. She couldn’t help but agree with his sentiment. "Merry Christmas, Adrien."
"Merry Christmas, my Lady."

ANSWER THESE & TAG 9 PEOPLE YOU’D LIKE TO KNOW BETTER/CATCH UP WITH !
LAST SONG:  Gaîté Parisienne - Jacques Offenbach (I work and write to classical music. Often.)
CURRENTLY READING: The Thousandth Floor by Katherine McGee and Just Like Heaven by Julia Quinn (because I can’t just keep rereading the Bridgerton siblings so it’s time for the Smythe-Smith quartet)
CURRENTLY WATCHING: Tokyo Revengers, Oddtaxi, Jujutsu Kaisen, Loki, Sex/Life. About to start: To Your Eternity, Unforgotten Season 4, Fear Street, part 2 of Netflix’s Lupin, Hathaway’s Flash, Young Royals, Generation 56k, Gossip Girl reboot (I’m skeptical as Blair Waldorf does not seem to be included). Rewatching: Fruits Basket, Mobile Suit Gundam film trilogy (with fiancé, we have just the third movie left as he hasn’t seen it yet. I’m enjoying shouting ‘WE’RE JUMPING ONTO WHITE BASE! AAAHHH!’ despite the fact Ryu does not, in fact, say this in the films), Elite Season 4 (also rewatching with fiancé because I binged this in two days and we’re weak for teenage soap operas).
In case you are wondering, this is why I never have time to play video games. If I’m not working, I’m writing, streaming something for work or play, or working on cosplay.
LAST MOVIE: Marie Antoinette. I’ve seen it at least 15 times but it’s good background noise for when I’m writing or crafting.
CURRENTLY  CRAVING: fiancé's spaghetti carbonara, a good cannoli (or two. Or six.), macarons from Laduree, conveyor belt sushi, dim sum, and Korean BBQ. Good thing I just went to Super H-Mart to do at-home Korean BBQ this weekend!
Also: knowing precisely how many rhinestones are going to be on Sonia’s despair gown because I’ve gone through nearly 2000 at this point and only a very small fraction of the parts that need bling have had bling applied. But I have gotten three blisters in the process from the hotfix tool, so this will be a summer of injured hands apparently. I’m going to have around 10,000 rhinestones in my stash to use and it’ll be a question of how many actually get incorporated in.
I hope it looks amazing on camera after all of this.

Drinks: mixed part of a body armor with mostly water, water, half mango Arizona half water,
•••••
Cajun filet biscuit from bojangles (terrible idea, I had straight up fluid diarrhea coming out of my ass not 15 minutes later) - 570
Plain bojangles biscuit - 310
•••••
A few slices of cantaloupe
A singular almond butter pretzel bite
•••••
My best friends boyfriend made shrimp scampi - 5 shrimp, some noods, asparagus, blistered cherry tomatoes whatever else he involved in that
•••••
She took a little nap after and immediately after she woke up, her boyfriend was asking her something and she just did not register at all what he was talking about. All groggy and fresh out of her nap and completely ignoring him she just said “I want ice cream!” and it was so funny and cute I loved it. We were going to go get frozen yogurt but it was closed, so we then went to Whole Foods. I got lemon sorbet and 2 lemon (which were supposed to be pistachio but I actually am glad he accidentally gave me lemon) macarons. I only took a few bites of the sorbet because it was super lemony (but in the best way).
I didn’t get any exercise today. Menstruation was at full force and I was snuggled up on my bff’s couch. It was a good day after about 3:00pm. She always makes me feel so welcomed and loved and safe

surveys by lets-make-surveys 1 - What did you do to celebrate your last birthday? Did you get any decent gifts? Guh I honestly barely want to recognize my birthday this year because 2020 has been a huge waste of my time...but fine, I guess I’m 22. It had been during the peak of the quarantine/pandemic, so we had no choice but to stay home. I just played the Switch all morning, then I think I watched my dad play video games, and then Angela and Hans sent over a box of sushi to our place. Real chill day.
2 - What was the last “random act of kindness” you experienced? It was my first day at the office today and I had to go up and down the stairs several times to bring packages to delivery riders, since I had to send those out to certain people. A member of the maintenance staff in the area was super nice and offered to carry some of the boxes for me, since he saw how much I was struggling with the boxes.
3 - Have you ever “paid it forward” by putting money behind the counter somewhere so the next person can get a free coffee or similar? Not yet. I’d love to be able to do that soon.
4 - What caused the last injury that made you bleed? Was it a serious injury? I was trying to open a bottle of soju last night but the cap just would not budge. Next thing I knew my finger was already bleeding. Never got to drink my soju :(
5 - Who was the last person you spoke to on the phone? Are you close to that person at all? One of the delivery riders who took my package earlier. Bless his soul, he was very new to the delivering thing and I think I was his first-ever customer, and he kept asking for my help. I did my best for a while but eventually I had to tell him I genuinely did not know how to answer some of his questions as I wasn’t a driver myself.
6 - What was the last item you received in the mail? Something I had ordered online. It was the gift I’m planning to give my grandma for Christmas.
7 - When was the last time you received flowers? What kind were they? A year ago, I think. It was a single stem of a rose. We were saving up last year hahaha so I had gotten her a single stem as well.
8 - Are you a fan of salted caramel? What about other “odd” combinations like sea salt and chocolate or chilli and chocolate? Ooh, I didn’t know salted caramel was considered odd; it’s a pretty common flavor here and has even gotten more popular in the last few years. I like it as a flavor in desserts, like cupcakes with salted caramel frosting. When it comes to food, I’m generally open-minded and will try any combination that exists at least once; that said, chili and chocolate sound especially intriguing haha. I’ve only ever tried chili ice cream, which was delicious.
9 - Do you enjoy watching bloopers or outtakes from TV shows? If so, which series do you think has the funniest ones? Yes. Bloopers in general are great but it’s best when they come from shows that have a reputation for being more drama-heavy and serious - that said, Breaking Bad bloopers are the fucking best. ‘Bloopers’ from animated movies are hilarious too; they were always made so well too that as a kid, I legit thought the characters were actual actors as it never crossed my mind that animators would take the extra effort and time to make bloopers out of fictional characters and that they had to be real actors in some way lol.
10 - What’s your favourite dessert food? OMG macarons for the win. I’ve been craving them so much. Cheesecake is great too, and also cupcakes.
11 - Do you have any really dangerous wild animals where you live? Have you ever encountered any of them? Nope only stray dogs and cats, and probably some chickens somewhere.
12 - Have you ever dreamed of owning your own shop? What kind of thing would you like to sell? I’ve never dreamed of this; it’s never been a goal of mine and running a business doesn’t sound like my kind of thing.
13 - Are you a twin? If not, would you ever want to be a twin? If you are a twin, do you ever wish you weren’t? No. I’ve never really found myself wishing for it, either.
14 - Do you prefer wearing your hair straight or curly? Maybe just a little wavy. Definitely not in the extreme of either side of the spectrum.
15 - Would you ever want to go and visit the moon? If I had the chance and everything was paid for and stuff, hell yeah. It’d be cool to get to cross out one of my childhood bucket list items.
16 - What was the last hot drink you had? What about cold drink? Or alcoholic drink? My last hot drink was...probably the coffee I asked my mom to make last Friday, but I did wait it out until it was considerably cooler as I didn’t want to drink it hot. My last cold drink is the iced caramel macchiato I ordered tonight and still have with me at the moment. Then for alcoholic drink, I had soju mixed with Yakult about two weeks ago.
17 - Does anything on your body hurt or ache right now? My lower back, unsurprisingly. I also cut my right middle finger trying to open a soju bottle last week, andddd I gained a blister on my right foot today because of the shoes I picked to wear for work.
18 - When was the last time you struggled to get to sleep? Was there was a specific reason for that? I can’t remember exactly when, but it happened within the last week or the last two weeks. Sometimes I just drink too much coffee during the day that it affects how sleepy I’d ultimately feel at night.
19 - What three countries would you most like to visit? Morocco, India, and Thailand.
20 - Who’s your closest friend from another country? How did you come to meet this person? I don’t really have one anymore...I’ve grown apart from my internet friends from different countries a long time ago, and I also don’t tend to keep up friendships with my friends who’ve since migrated from the Philippines to another country. I suppose the one I’m on best terms with is Angel who migrated to Toronto around a decade ago; but I use ‘best’ very loosely as the most we do is comment on one another’s posts whenever we reach like a life accomplishment, like when we graduated college.
21 - When was the last time you had a cold? With everything going on in the news, did you worry that it was COVID? It’s been a while. I can’t remember; it was definitely pre-Covid.
22 - As of today (10th December, 2020) the COVID vaccine is being rolled out in the UK. Are you going to have it once it’s available to you (if it ever is)? A part of me is a little concerned because I know vaccines take years and sometimes even decades to be fully developed, but that doesn’t mean I don’t trust doctors and science. I very much do, of course. It’s just that I’d personally prefer to wait it out first to see if it’ll have any negative effects once rolled out on a massive scale.
23 - What are your favourite websites to browse when you’re bored? Wikipedia black holes are the way to go.
24 - Do you think people should have to pass a test in order to own pets? A local animal welfare NGO already does that; Nina had to go through several tests before she was allowed to adopt Arlee. There was a verbal interview, a written form she had to fill out, and a representative from the organization even visited our house to see if it was a suitable environment for Arlee; I’m sure there was a few more steps she was required to undergo. I certainly think it’s a good and responsible process.
25 - When was the last time you fell asleep/had a nap during the day? Is this something that happens often? It’s been monthssssssssss. I don’t really take naps during the day anymore.
26 - Do you suffer/have you ever suffered with bad acne? What kind of things did you do to try and improve it? I’ve never had issues with acne and was always rather fortunate when it comes to my skin. I’ll have a pimple or two show up once or twice a year, but they go away within a week or so. Since I don’t want to jinx it, I just wash my face with water and I’ve never experimented with any skincare products ever.
27 - When you think about it, do you think it’s odd that we stop drinking human milk at a young age, but we happily drink milk from other species instead? Not really.
28 - How’s the weather where you are? Is this a good or a bad thing for you? These days it’s humid and hot during the day (as always), but now that it’s Christmas season the weather tends to plunge to like 24-26C during nighttime. I’d say the night part is good for me as I prefer being cold than hot, so I’m glad we’ll be having this weather until March at most.
29 - When was the last time you ate a pizza? What toppings did you get? Tuesday. Relatives came over then and my cousin got us pizzas. I don’t remember what toppings he got but both pizzas had stuffed crust in it.
30 - How often do you wear make-up? What kind of make-up do you wear? Wow, almost never. Gab used to put makeup on me but now that she’s gone, I don’t really see myself wearing makeup for the meantime as I definitely wouldn’t apply them onto myself.
--
1 - If you have caffeine late in the day, does it cause you to struggle with your sleep? Eh, sometimes. Sometimes it’ll do what it’s supposed to and make me stay up for a while, but other times it doesn’t work and I’ll end up getting sleepy the same time I usually start feeling so.
2 - When you struggle to sleep, what do you do instead? Watching videos has eternally worked for me.
3 - Who was the last person you spoke to for the first time? How did you come to speak to this person? Hmm I met my co-workers Ysa and Bea for the first time today, if it counts. I’ve only ever talked to them through Viber since we’re on a WFH set-up, but we had to go to the office today to fix up some boxes that we needed to get delivered. But the last person that I really hadn’t met nor spoken to before was Jhomar, the company messenger who takes care of pickups for the day.
4 - If you have a pet, have they ever embarrassed you in public or in front of friends or family members? What happened? Kimi is typically unfriendly towards strangers, so as cute and cuddly as he looks he would probably bite your finger off. I’ve had to explain that to guests who’ve felt puzzled about his demeanor. He’s my little baby though and I wouldn’t say he’s embarrassed me because of it. Cooper on the other hand is hyper-friendly to the point that he looks aggressive and it has scared some people away; in reality, he’s always SO pumped to meet anyone and everyone and can never contain his excitement haha. He’s literally the nicest dog.
5 - Do you leave the house every single day? I never leave the house, except if it’s to withdraw cash or go to the Starbucks drive through to pick up a coffee.
6 - Would you rather spend the day at the beach, or a day in the snow in the mountains? I would normally pick beach, but I think the mountains would be best for me at the moment.
7 - Do you prefer tops that are plain, or ones with patterns/logos/slogans? Plain.
8 - Are there any TV shows from your childhood that you still watch today? I’ll watch Spongebob every now and then. When I’m bored and have enough time on my hands I’ll sometimes watch other shows from my childhood just for that nostalgia wave, like Barney or Hannah Montana.
9 - How many texts would you say you send on an average day? Used to be hundreds, but now it’s probably like...5, on average. Sometimes I’ll need to text media for work and that’ll come up to around 15-20 texts but that happens only occasionally, like once every two weeks.
10 - Do you enjoy buying gifts for other people, or do you never know what to buy them? I never know what to buy for people. I like buying gifts for a significant other, though. I tend to spoil one to no end.
11 - Girls - if you get periods, do you suffer from period pain or any other horrible symptoms? I get the hormonal symptoms, but the physical symptoms are almost never there. My stomach will usually contract in a way that tells me it’s coming soon, but it never really aches. Most of the time, I just cry and mope a lot and that’s how I know it’s on its way, ha.
12 - The last time you were in a car, where you were travelling to? Were you the driver or a passenger? I was headed back home. but I came from the office. I was the driver as always.
13 - Who were you with the last time you went out for a meal? I took myself out on a date.
14 - What book do you wish they’d make into a film or TV series? The Septimus fucking Heap series, please. They’ve been trying to get it made into a movie series for years but as far as I know the talks have always fallen through.
15 - The age old question - do you prefer coke or pepsi? That’s a big ‘or’ for me. I don’t drink soda.
16 - What’s the last thing you watched on TV? Is this a programme you watch regularly? Bea took over the office TV earlier and she had it set to a BTS + Taylor Swift music video playlist so that we had background music while working. No, neither are my artists of choice, really.
17 - Do you have a favourite documentary subject (eg. nature, celebrities, history, crime)? Pro wrestling (a seriously underrated documentary subject) and crime. Documentaries on anthropological issues or discoveries are great as well. I do love history, but I prefer to absorb it in text/museum form.
18 - Do you prefer sweet or savoury snacks? What snack would you say is your overall favourite? Savoryyy. I get tired of sweet snacks pretty quickly. My current favorites to munch on are any salted egg flavored chips.
19 - Does having to wear a mask stop you from doing anything, just because you dislike them or find them uncomfortable? It can be harder to breathe and I get exhausted a lot faster with a mask on, but I keep it on because I would want to keep other people safe and because it’s so easy to keep a damn mask on.
20 - Do you prefer zip-up or overheard hoodies? Either is fine.
21 - If you have a yard or garden, how much time do you spend out there? I prefer the rooftop, and if I do go there I usually stay for a few hours during the evening just to have some time to myself. Being in a house with four adults can get pretty overwhelming and taxing sometimes.
22 - When was the last time someone bought you flowers? What was the occasion? I think it was for Valentine’s Day last year. If not, it was for the anniversary which was a week after Valentine’s Day.
23 - How often do you get takeaway? What’s your favourite thing to order? I don’t really do takeout. I usually dine-in or have food delivered to my place.
24 - Do you own a lot of clothing items in your favourite colour? What is your favourite colour, anyway? I don’t have a lot of clothes in pink. It’s not my best color, but I like it in everything else hahaha.
25 - When was the last time you stayed overnight away from home? Was this with friends, family or in a hotel somewhere? What was the occasion? Idk probably a sleepover at Gab’s place early this year.
26 - Would you ever be interested in seeing a live magic show? Sure. Magic shows are already a staple at kids’ birthday parties here, and I’ve always enjoyed them especially since magicians are quite the comedians too.
27 - What’s your favourite period to learn about in history? What got you interested in this particular era? I don’t have a favorite period per se but I’ve always had an affinity for the royalty. I like reading all about them, no matter what period they reigned or what house/country they’re from. Historians have kept impressive and super detailed accounts or records for most of them, so reading about their lives has also allowed me to learn more about the culture they lived through.
28 - Do you still use or carry cash, or do you pay for everything via card? I heavily rely on cash and I actually realized how behind I am just today, when Bea ordered lunch for the office. I paid her with cash and she looked at me all puzzled and was like, “Can you do bank transfer instead?” another big girl stuff I had to learn lol. Everyone in college used cash pls forgive me
29 - Are there any TV shows that remind you of your grandparents for some reason? Not really.
30 - Have you ever had to wear a tie for school or work? If not, do you know how to tie a tie without looking it up? I had a necktie as part of my uniform in my old school. I never knew how to tie it and always asked someone else to do it for me whenever it came loose.

MEGAN ABBOTT –– slamming lockers. the flickering of cafeteria lights. the roar of a stadium. the lost echoes of girlhood. love and hate interwoven like fingers in a handhold. secrets pushed beneath one’s mattress. the whip of a cheerleader’s skirt. broken lipstick. shattered compact mirrors. the fear of everything ending. spider-like lashes. smudged kisses on dry cheeks. breath reeking of alcohol and desperation. the tight bond of sisterhood.
SARAH DESSEN –– laughter like sunshine pouring over you. roof down, hands dancing through the open air. piggy back rides through convenience store aisles. blustering boardwalks. warm sand. second chances. stacks of pancakes. seagulls calling. the salt-loaded scent of the ocean. moonglass. skinny dipping in the dark with your friends. first kisses on a rickety porch. the feeling of freedom, of possibility. toe-curling love. the best of times. unspoken adventures.
RAINBOW ROWELL –– pastel macarons. the divine scent of slow-roasting coffee. endless click-click-clicking on a well-loved laptop. the push and pull of a coffee-shop soundtrack. frantic chicken-scratches on lined paper. whispers between the sheets. loose-knit beanies pulled low over your brow. the fear of missing out. a bookshop, antiquated and knock-kneed. coming of age stories. learning to say sorry. learning to forgive.
HOLLY BLACK –– an impish giggle from the underbelly of an overgrown shrub. the moon hiding behind a veil of clouds. how fire turns from blistering hot to freezing cold. a deceptively shallow pool of ink-black water. yards of silken hair. leaves tangled in your clothes. chipped nail polish. thick chains of iron spotted in blood. the eeriness of being watched. insect-like wings cutting through the endless sky. scythe-sharp talons. slitted eyes on your every move. a velvet throne.
MARIE LU –– armor formed of leather and silk. heavy silver moons weighing down the sky. lanterns scattered across a light-starved city. the desperate shudder of poverty. almond sweet cakes and soft powdered sugar. stars falling from the sky. reaching up to touch the heavens. fate, inescapable. bloody redemption. shadows at the corner of your eyes, growing, growling, famished. the thump of a coin-stuffed purse slapping the cobbled floor. pain that never heals. a heart that blackens by the day, darker than night itself.
