Sister-Glass Caverns
Tumblr media
Warning: This is a Maasverse post, and as such, there are spoilers for all Maas series, including information connected to the HOFAS teaser.
The caves in the hofas teaser made me think about something I noticed in Elain’s witch series. In acosf, the priestesses worship in a cavern that is smooth as glass.
“…And the cave we have the service in is beautiful, too. It was carved by the underground river that flows beneath the mountain, so the walls are smooth as glass. And it’s acoustically perfect—the shape and size of the space amplifies and clarifies each voice within.” (acosf)
In the sense chanted, I talked about how this might be Prythian’s version of witch glass, which as we learned from Manon and Maeve in the tog series, has various uses:
“You can see the future, past, present. You can speak between mirrors, if someone possesses the sister-glass. And then there are the rare silvers—whose forging demands something vital from the maker.” Manon’s voice dropped low. Dorian wondered if even among the Blackbeaks, these tales had only been whispered at their campfires. “Other mirrors amplify and hold blasts of raw power, to be unleashed if the mirror is aimed at something.” (Manon, eos)
-
“It’s possible—to show a different world?” Dorian asked Maeve when they were again in their tower room.
Maeve slid into a chair, her face distant. “Using mirrors, yes.”
Dorian lifted a brow. “You have seen yourself the power of witch mirrors. What it did to Aelin Galathynius and Manon Blackbeak. Who do you think taught the witches such power? Not the Fae.” A small laugh. “And how do you think I have been able to see so far, hear the voices of my eyes, all the way from Doranelle? There are mirrors to spy, to travel, to kill. Even now, Erawan wields them to his advantage with the Ironteeth.” With the witch towers. (Maeve, koa)
Witch mirrors can be used to store knowledge (like the memory Aelin and Manon entered), amplify power, travel, and spy (listen and watch). It is interesting that the cave under the mountain where the library rests is described in terms of glass. Gwyn even indicates that it amplifies their voices, so if those ancient songs Clotho found were spells, it’s possible the glass amplified their power. And that spell helped Nesta enter a trance-like state and connect with the Harp.
So Nesta drifted down and down, the harp and the voices pulsing and guiding, until she stopped before a rock. She laid a hand on it to find it was only an illusion, and she passed through it, down another long hall, beneath the mountain itself, and then she stood in a cavern, almost the twin to the one the priestesses sang in, as if they were linked in song and dreaming. (acosf)
The spell led Nesta beneath the sister mountain called the Prison, to a near-twin cavern where the Harp is located. These sister caverns—or sister-glass, if you will—are linked in song and dreaming.
We learned from Amren that there is an extensive underground cave system in Prythian, meaning that there might be other sister-glass caves.
“Oorid was once a sacred place,” Amren said. […] They say the water there flows to Under the Mountain, and the creatures who live in the bog have long used its underground waterways to travel through the Middle, even into the mountains of the surrounding courts.” (Amren, acosf)
@offtorivendell, @silverlinedeyes and I theorized that the sister mountains (the Middle, Ramiel, and Prison) could all have portals to other worlds buried beneath. What if each sister mountain has a cavern with sister-glass, and these caves are not only linked to each other, but—as Maeve suggests is possible—to other worlds as well? Did ancient beings like the Daglan or death-gods (who are similar to those who taught the witches how wield the glass) create these sister caverns? Is that what Bryce, Azriel, and Nesta came across—or are searching for—in the teaser? And if ancient creatures like kelpie still use the waterways in Oorid, which is connected to the underground waterways and cave system that spans the Middle and leads to other courts, then what other ancient nightmares are waiting for them beneath?
Annnnnd if they are exploring the cave system, and it leads to Ramiel rather than the Prison, I wonder if they’ll see Balthazar mysteriously appear again. 🤭 (C’mon, you knew that was coming!)
Annnnnnnnnnnnnd if these sister glass caverns operate like witch mirrors, would that mean someone could use it to communicate with or spy on others from other worlds? Even travel from Prythian to Midgard? Erilea? I swear, if someone (please, I’m begging for it to be Elain in the next acotar book) steps out of a sister cavern and into a Blueblood ritual, my mind will explode.

The Throne of Glass world no longer exists.
It was destroyed by the Asteri to create Midgard.
[Spoilers for Throne of Glass, ACOTAR, and Crescent City]
Many thousands of years ago, and prior to the Asteri's invasion of Midgard, there existed another civilisation. Part of this civilisation lived in a place called Parthos.
More specifically, when asked what the Crescent City world was before the Asteri's reign, Tharion noted that "ancient humans and their gods dwelled here."
An exact description of the Throne of Glass world.
Tumblr media
Interestingly, despite the Crescent City books mentioning other continents (such as Pangera), readers are only given a map of Lunathion.
This is particularly strange, as all other SJM books have provided a full world map.
So, why would this be hidden for Crescent City...?
Tumblr media
As such, I theorise that Midgard is actually the Throne of Glass world; hence why a full map has not yet been revealed.
Thus, I believe that following the events of Kingdom of Ash, some years later, the Asteri showed up and destroyed their world. The result of this was the creation of Midgard, and subsequently Lunathion - the world Bryce inhabits today.
The Timeline.
Evidently, this theory suggests that the timeline between the ACOTAR, CC and TOG worlds are not simultaneous, but rather that Throne of Glass occurred in the past - many thousands of years ago.
When considering this possibility, some rebut that this cannot be possible, as Aelin fell through worlds - right past Velaris and Lunathion. However, there is nothing to suggest that Aelin didn't also fall through time.
In fact, there are a multitude of hints throughout the various SJM books to suggest that time travel, or time manipulation, is indeed possible:
When the Asteri lured people into Midgard, it is said they offered a hand through "space and time."
Tumblr media
The Harp, when used, can transport people through "space and eons." In fact, the 26th string is time itself - but what happens when a full melody is played?
Tumblr media
Merrill straight up suggests that all of the worlds overlap - sharing the same space, but are separated by time. Almost as if it suggests that ACOTAR, CC and TOG are in the same 'world,' but manifestations of differing time periods; the past (TOG), the present (ACOTAR), and the future (CC).
Tumblr media
Most importantly, when Bryce lands in Prythian, she starts to wonder if she had travelled in time; or, if this new world occupies a different time period (the exact concept that Merrill just suggested...)
Tumblr media
Further, in her most recent interview, SJM was asked whether time travel would play a part in future books. SJM mysteriously replied, "no spoilers."
Thus, if this theory is correct, and Throne of Glass is indeed set in the past, then it is perhaps no coincidence that "Midgard" is the Norse name for "Earth."
And that "Terrasen" means "Old Earth."
Parthos.
As previously mentioned, a portion of the civilisation that used to inhabit Midgard (and as this theory suggests, the TOG characters) resided in an ancient city called Parthos.
As readers, we are first offered a glimpse of Parthos when Apollion takes Bryce to a "dream world" - a landscape in which the Great Library of Parthos used to be.
When in this dream world, Bryce notes that what remains of Parthos is a "DUSTY plain."
Tumblr media
Interestingly, in the ACOTAR world, the Bone Carver mentioned that the world he (and his siblings) came from is now nothing more than "DUST drifting across a plain."
Tumblr media
As the Bone Carver mentions this, Feyre notes that he draws three interlocking circles into the ground.
This is the exact symbol of Bryce's Archesian necklace - which is also the symbol of Parthos.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If this theory is correct, then the Bone Carver originated from Parthos - from the Throne of Glass world.
Considering the similarities between the Bone Carver and the Sin Eater (the absent God-like being in the TOG world who quite literally carved bones, and was known as the 'God of Truth')... it makes perfect sense.
Tumblr media
However, the most telling clue of all, that connects everything together, is this;
Knowing that Parthos is referred to as a "dusty" plain, consider Rowan's words to Aelin:
"I love you. There is no limit to what I can give to you, no time I need. Even when this world is a FORGOTTEN WHISPER OF DUST between the stars, I will love you."
Tumblr media
Why would the world Aelin and Rowan inhabit ever turn into a "forgotten whisper of dust"? Just like Parthos?
Because IT IS Parthos.
It is the world the Asteri destroyed to create Midgard.
Asteri Archives.
As even further proof, recall that when Bryce entered the Asteri's archive rooms at the end of CC2, she found notes on how Midgard came to be.
These notes stated that the "indigenous life was not sustainable" for the Asteri.
Tumblr media
If this theory is correct, this suggests that the "indigenous" lives were the Throne of Glass humans, and that they did not possess enough magic (or first-light) to feed the Asteri.
We already know this is true, as it was a similar problem that the Valg previously faced.
Additionally, on the exact same page of the notes that detail the Asteri's invasion of Midgard, there is a sketch of both a wolf shifter, and a mer.
Tumblr media
The wolf shifters and the mer are the two species confirmed to be the Throne of Glass fae.
So, it begs the question; why were the Throne of Glass fae explicitly mentioned on the Asteri's Midgard (pre-colonisation) notes...?
The Southern Continent.
If Midgard is built on the ruins of the Throne of Glass world, then I believe that Lunathion is situated on the Southern Continent (the setting of the TOG book, Tower of Dawn).
More specifically, as Lunathion is said to be modelled after an "ancient city," I believe it is modelled after the famed Southern Continent City - Antica.
In Tower of Dawn, Antica is described as a city surrounded by a wall, lined with "olive groves" and "wheat farms" bordering the city.
Tumblr media
Lunathion is described in the exact same way:
Tumblr media
Further, both Lunathion and Antica have "arid" climates:
Lunathion:
Tumblr media
Antica:
Tumblr media
And, most notably, both are surrounded by deserts; a unique geographical feature that is not prominently featured in other SJM settings.
Tumblr media
As such, this suggests that the lost library of Parthos, is the Torre Cesme.
Perhaps the most sacred building in the entirety of the Throne of Glass world, the Torre Cesme is home to a huge library - one that is said to be the oldest.
Tumblr media
In the present day, Jesiba Roga guards the remaining books that were once held in the library of Parthos (or, in the Torre Cesme library).
Prior to the end of CC1, Jesiba kept these books locked away in her store, Griffin Antiquities. Interestingly, a set of "glaring owl eyes" had been placed on the store to Jesiba's shop.
Tumblr media
Owl's are the symbol of Silba, and the healers of the Torre Cesme.
Further, considering that Yrene's healing abilities are the exact same as Bryce's Starborn powers - could this explain why Jesiba looked like she had "seen a ghost" when she first beheld Bryce's Starborn light?
Such a notion makes even more sense when you consider that Hypaxia's tutor was brought back to life using necromancy, and was originally an inhabitant of Parthos.
Hypaxia states that this tutor specifically trained her in healing magic; just like the healers of the Torre Cesme.
Tumblr media
In fact, the scene of Hypaxia removing the Kristallos venom is near identical to Yrene removing the Valg parasite from Chaol:
Tumblr media
Lidia Cervos.
Speaking of necromancy, knowing that Hypaxia's family dabbles in such magic calls into question the identify of Lidia, Hypaxia's half-sister.
Is she Aelin Galathynius, brought back to life?
Or, perhaps she is a child of Aelin and Rowan, brought back to life?
Not only do Lidia and Aelin look near identical,
Tumblr media
Not only is Lidia represented by flame (Aelin's power),
But her shifted form is that of a deer; that sacred animal of Terrasen. Even her last name "Cervos" is a type of female deer.
Lidia is also seen wearing a "gold ring, crowned with a square, clean-cut ruby." This is the exact description of the ring Aelin have to Rowan when they married.
Further, Ruhn also suggests that Lidia must be an Asteri, or as old as one, given the way she uses language. However, as Lidia is only 47, this makes no sense.
However, it makes perfect sense if Ruhn is actually talking to Aelin, or Aelin's child; someone who, according to this theory, existed many thousands of years ago.
(And, as a side note - given that Lidia looks like the "spitting image" of Luna, and that Luna's sacred animal is the Stag... could it be that Luna is Aelin? And that Lunathion was named after her?)
Connections.
Is it then perhaps no coincidence that one of the houses of Lunathion is the "House of Flame and Shadow." Aelin was known as the "Queen of Flame and Shadow."
In fact, Throne of Glass being the past world of Crescent City explains a plethora of connections:
The "Stag King" of Avallen.
Ruhn being named after the Ruhnn mountains.
Why so many CC places sound like TOG places (Morrah = Morath, Korinth = Orynth).
The witches worshipping the same "three-faced goddess."
Why wyrdmarks can be found everywhere (especially underwater, where some of the ruins of the "ancient civilisation" are said to lie).
It also explains the "World of Throne of Glass" book, which to this day, mysteriously remains unpublished.
Tumblr media
According to SJM, the World of Throne of Glass is an "encyclopedia" that documents the full history of the Throne of Glass world. Written by a "grumpy librarian," SJM stated that it will "feel like a book you can pull off the shelves of an ancient library."
It's almost as if the World of Throne of Glass is a Parthos book in itself...
Is that why it remains unreleased?
Future books.
If this theory is correct, some may wonder how SJM could possibly include TOG characters if they are indeed dead.
I believe there are two viable options:
The "rewrite history" route:
In a future multiverse book series, the main characters of CC and ACOTAR would team up, and using the Harp/Horn (or perhaps the full power of the Dread Trove), they would go back in time. In doing so, they would join forces with the TOG characters, and stop the Asteri from ever overthrowing their world.
If successful, it would mean that the Dusk Court was never destroyed. At present, Bryce is hinted to be the ruler of this court... but it doesn't exist (and there isn't a lot of time to rebuild an entire city). However, if time manipulation was used... no rebuilding would be necessary.
It would also explain why the Oracle told Ruhn that the "royal bloodline will end" with him - as Midgard would never be created, the same applies for the Autumn King's reign.
The "escape" route:
Alternatively, perhaps when the Asteri arrived in the TOG world, some of the main characters were able to escape into other worlds - such as Prythian.
This would explain why so many of the characters in the ACOTAR and TOG worlds share many similarities (for example, Tamlin as the ancestor of Aedion and Lysandra...)
Tumblr media
This would also explain why so many of the ACOTAR character's last names have been hidden from the reader.
Some characters may have escaped elsewhere too, such as Hel...
Tumblr media
(^ This is more of a crack theory, but there's only two characters in the SJM universe who have "freakishly" blue eyes, can shape shift into any form they choose, and have powers that manifest as cold...)
However, no matter the method of saving the world, or storyline adopted, Aelin said it best herself:
"This world will be saved and remade by the dreamers."

I was chatting with @eudaimonia83 and they said something that was pretty genius.
We were discussing the Valkyries training and she commented on wanting someone, anyone over the IC to continue training them.
My response was initially that Az and Cassian's plan was to continue training them as they had a list of mistakes compiled after the Rite but then I realized that she was on to something. Why should two males end up training the Valkyrie indefinitely? Right now it's really only Emerie, Nesta, and Gwyn (unless the other priestesses plan on leaving the library) but the goal is to build a complete unit of elite female warriors.
Cassian is the general of the Illyrian armies. He already has a job that would pull him away from the females training.
Az also has his duties as spymaster but I do wonder if in his book they'll eventually take Devlon out and he'll end up training the Illyrians.
And regardless of how accepting of female warriors they are, a unit that only consists of female warriors should be trained by a female.
Nesta is gearing up to be the general of the Valkyrie so who could train them?
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I've already theorized that Mor may end up living in the Prison lands once it's restored and becomes Valkyrie territory and that she'll end up with Gwydion (and Emerie with Truth-Teller), so what if her role there was to train the Valkryie?
She's already expressed interest in the Valkyrie (once the peace treaty is secured) and we know that she has had as much training (if not more) than the Illyrians themselves because she's learned not only the Illyrian techniques but that of other territories.
Mor's character has been hovering in the background for quite a long time and I'm loving that a few possible pieces to her possible future seem to be falling into place.
SJM had a WIP titled "Twilight of the Gods" and I'm thinking that the Valkyrie setup is all related to the new series she recently contracted for. Twilight of the Gods has connections to Ragnarok which is related to Norse mythology and that is related to the Valkryie (who rode on winged horses though the actual term Pegasus is found in Greek mythology).

Just finished reading House of Flame and Shadow (Crescent City Book 3) by Sarah J Maas. It was a fine read and pretty much exactly what you’d expect to get from her. In my opinion, the book felt like it got edited to all hell in order to keep the story arc down to a trilogy. There’s scene jumps constantly where it doesn’t make sense to have scene jumps and the cast is so big that the book doesn’t do most of them justice. Some major spoilers to follow as I talk about more specific things!
The book has some enjoyable scenes, particularly if you’re a fan of angsty romance, angst in general, or comeuppance for assholes. However the pacing of the book is so fast that it never feels like there’s any stakes and all the characters’ plans just work out. A lot of the comeuppance could be a lot more satisfying if time was taken to actually put the characters in bad situations they have to get out of. For example when the characters are in Avallen, they never really find themselves at the mercy of King Morven. They go where they want and do what they want and the one time Morven gets involved, they just kill him.
I enjoyed getting to read Lidia’s scenes in this book but feel like SJM missed the mark on her backstory. There’s a lot of hinting about her terrible father and life, then some interesting scenes where she clearly knows King Morven more than the other characters. Unfortunately, none of that matters as she is not King Morven’s daughter and her family lineage is actually the same as Aelin from the Throne of Glass series. I know that there’d have to be some major explanations for how she and Cormac didn’t know each other and all that jazz but it could’ve really helped some of the other issues the book had.
My only other major complaint is that this book was setup to be like a big fun crossover with the ACOTAR characters and then the book didn’t do anything with that at all. We only see Nesta and Azriel (technically Rhysand in the beginning but all he does is ask Bruce a few questions and leave) as they walk through some underground caves with Bryce, who leaves once their journey ends. The whole time Bryce is in the ACOTAR realm is one big exposition dump that could’ve come from anywhere. I was disappointed with the crossover stuff, but oh well!
Anyway, it was a fine book and I enjoyed it a reasonable amount despite these complaints. XD If you like SJM’s work and aren’t invested in your own particular lore theories being correct then you’ll like this book.

Okay, buckle in because I have an SJMverse theory connecting all three of her series and what comes next.
I’m re-reading A Court of Silver Flames and I get to the scene where Nesta accidentally scrys during Gwyn’s singing and projects her mind to the chamber under the mountain prison where she finds the harp at the center of an ancient chamber that has wards (wyrd markings) and eight pointed star at the center, right under the harp. Time does not exist in this chamber. When Nesta asks about the star, Cassian says it might be part of the night court and then he says that Rhys mentioned once that it “might have even been an eighth court”. Nesta’s inner monologue makes it clear that she doesn’t believe it’s the night court because the magic feels different than night court magic. It would also make sense to have another court. We have four seasonal courts (spring, summer, autumn, and winter) and three celestial courts (day, dawn, and night). My theory is that there is a fourth celestial court that has to do with stars, just like the night court. But that comes later. At the center of this chamber guarded against time is an eight pointed star. You know where else we’ve seen an eight pointed star? When Bryce Quinlan from Crescent City does the drop, she’s left with an eight pointed star on her chest, the mark of the starborn fae. This makes me think that the “eighth court” are the starborn fae that were transported to Midgard and possibly another celestial court, like night, day, and dawn. Something to do with stars, so maybe a dusk court. Or…..The Twilight Court. Because twilight is the light from the sky between full night and sunrise or between sunset and full night. So between night court and dawn/day court. And you know what Sarah J Maas has on her goodreads page? A book that’s set to come out called..wait for it…….Twilight of the Gods. We have Twilight but where do the Gods come in? Are these the God’s Aelin banished in Kingdom of Ash? I firmly believe that the “Gods” represent the three leading SJM women. Sun, Night, and Stars. Aelin, Feyre, and Bryce.
Aelin Galathynius- Queen of Terrasen, representing the sun. Heir to Mala Firebringer, the sun Goddess of Erliea.
Feyre Archeron- High Lady of the Night Court, representing the moon. There’s many parallels drawn between her and Deanna, the goddess of the moon and sister of Mala Firebringer. Feyre’s abilities revolve around shadow and darkness and she wields a bow and arrow, like Artemis (basis for Deanna) from Bryce’s world as well but there she’s named Luna.
Bryce Quinlan- Starborn princess of the fae. Has abilities of starlight and the most powerful starborn fae in existence. She could be considered a god in her own right.
Three of them represent the God’s of celestial proportions. I have a feeling that Crescent City 3 will set up the ultimate plot and battle and culmination of all of SJM’s books in this book Twilight of the Gods. An Avengers: Endgame type of battle. Somehow, each of the major villains (the gods, the asteri, Hybern, the demon princes, Maeve, the prison under the mountain) from all the books are connected in some way and Twilight of the Gods will be the ultimate crossover between all three worlds and have Aelin, Feyre, and Bryce fighting together. Maybe even combining their magic. What makes me think this even more is the title. Twilight of the Gods. You Google it and the first thing that comes up is a reference to Norse Mytholoy and Ragnorak and “a series of major events foretold to result in the death of a number of gods”. Bryce lives somewhere named Midgard, also from Norse mythology. The God’s being killed are the gods Aelin banished and maybe the asteri. Maybe they’re even the same. I may sound like a lunatic but I think it’s a solid theory? Any thoughts lol?
Oh and I think the third Crescent City book will be called House of Flame and Shadow because not only is that one of the houses in Crescent City, it’s also two words used in one of the Throne of Glass books to describe Aelin. I forget which one and the passage but I know she’s referenced as flames and shadow. Flames because of her magic and shadow for her being an assassin.

Do you think that Feyre is going to be able to wield the Dread trove? Since she repaired the cauldron/Feyre is make “like calls to like” “feyre cauldron blessed” etc. the cauldron/mother has always helped her (rather than being angry like with Nesta) but do you think SJM is going to make Nesta the main character for the cross over I hope not.
I honestly don’t know. I think only people who are made by the cauldron can use troves (Nesta, Elain, Amren, that old queen whose name I forgot), then again Feyre is able to control the cauldron and has some connection to it so who knows. I don’t think any Acotar character is going to be the main character for this crossover but I do think Nesta is going to be a major character however I don’t think that she’s able to use the troves anymore and that’s going to be a huge issue in the crossover.
I am anti-nesta but this isn’t a theory I made simply because I dislike her. Maas said that her saving Feyre would have some serious consequences and her losing her ability to wield the troves and as a result not being able to help Bryce get home is the only thing that makes sense to me. Sjm said that Bryce is going to be in Prythian for a least half of CC3 and if Nesta could easily just wield the troves to get her home then I don’t think she would be in Prythian for that long. So yeah I do think Nesta is going to be a major character in the crossover but I don’t think she’s going to be a main character if that makes sense.

I've been reading the novels by Sarah J. Maas since I was 12. Throne of Glass was brought into the class library and after hearing the teacher read the summary, I beat the other kids in raising my hand for first dibs on reading it. And I am beyond thankful for it.
Throne of Glass was my first series obsession. I loved the world, the plot, the sheer imagery that came to me when reading. I've always been able to read and play the book in my head like a movie. But these books became something else entirely. It's a world I wanted to live in, to witness. I wanted to BE in these books.
Scanning the local library for new books, I happened to find A Court of Thrones and Roses. I was so excited to see that my favorite author was the creator and checked out the first two that were available and spent an illegal amount of lost sleep reading the new series.
So, for years, I've been getting her books. For birthdays and Christmas (exactly 6 months apart, which is perfect because Maas usually announces a book release or releases a book in that time frame) I got the next book available, and I think my family is happy that there's something actually ON my Christmas list.
After A Court of Silver Flames, I didn't know what to do with myself. I've been pining for a novel that centers around Elaine and Azriel and their respective journeys on finding themselves (much like acosf was for Nesta). Then Sarah drops Crescent City. I had put off buying the book because I didn't know what to think. Reading the summaries, I knew I wanted it but not as desperately as the others. But, after the release of House of Sky and Breath (cc2) I decided it was finally time to dive back into books. Again, so thankful I did.
Crescent City is, much like her other novels, a masterpiece. And it's now making me want a crossover novel of the three series. But, I have some thoughts.
SPOILERS AND THEORIES AHEAD
1. If Rhysand and the gang help Bryce in Midgard, it would be an easy win. The hardest part would be Bryce figuring out a way to teleport back to Midgard from Prythian with the entire crew to help. And, obviously, she can't at the moment. There would also be the adjustment of being on a planet where no one but two people (that we know so far) speak her language. AND there's the adjustment of basically going back in time (no tech, no modern novelties, zip).
IM THINKING, the reason why the book will be the longest Maas has written is because Bryce will find out more about where the citizens of Midgard come from and the truth of the Asteri. That would require her to read, and also might end up searching in the Dusk Court (Dusk's Truth, remember?) for some answers.
2. IF Aelin and her people do make an appearance, wouldn't that make it harder? Another planet where there's the possibility they moved on from the Old Language and even differs from the language of Prythian. Language barrier, on top of technology barriers. Midgard is leagues ahead, with phones, laptops, and modern technology. Even Terrasen didn't have that. So, what then?
3. If any of the main characters from any of these novels die, I will die with them.
Sarah is an amazing author, and, clearly from the amount of fans she's amassed (haha, get it?), we've all grown extremely attached to the characters that she's created. ToG and ACOTAR has reached peace, but Crescent City is dragging them back in. If anyone dies, a part of my soul will never heal.
In conclusion, I love Sarah J. Maas and her books that break my heart then reassembles it.

acotar theory #1
Elain (+ a lil bit of some others) under a keep reading because of possible spoilers. i.e. don't read if you haven't read HOSAB yet.
So we know that Elain has seer abilities but as we have not had a narrative focus on her yet we don't know the extent of her powers.
With the crossover reveal at the end of HOSAB, I think it is likely that Elain will play a part in getting Bryce back to Midgard (and in doing so will set things up nicely for her being a POV in the next ACOTAR).
So, in HOSAB we are introduced to mystics, the whole subplot seemed completely unnessecary to me **until** the end of the book when Bryce goes to Prythian. We also have a focus on Ithan Holstrom - I think the sole reason for this is to set up him kidnapping the Fendyr mystic at the end of HOSAB. Now we have a mystic with the CC Crew (remaining free/alive members) who have a way of visiting other worlds. It is hinted at that mystics can communicate with each other. Now what Maas needs for Bryce to be able to speak to characters back on Midgard is a mystic of her own... Cue Elain.
We also learned that mystic powers don't just ~work~ they rely on a lot of quite advanced tech to be able to get the mystic powers working to their full potential. Who in the IC/Night Court knows someone who can create advanced technology (or Prythian's version of it) the fae who made Lucien's eye.
I suspect this will set up nicely for Elain and Lucien to travel to visit said techy-fae. I do not think they will be going alone. They will need someone who can speak Old Fae who isn't Rhys (the whole pact + baby thing takes him and Feyre out of action, I also think they deserve to not have to do stuff anymore - they've done enough!). I think our Old Fae speaker, who understands multi-world theory, will be Gwyn. Or Gwyn will cover multi-world stuff and Az will be able to speak Old Fae (he's a spy, so I imagine he has a gift for languages).
This gives us a delightfully juicy set up with four characters who are currently involved in a fandom-wide ship war. Think of the side-eye, the awkward silences -- the pining!!!
In summary, Elain is going to be a mystic who can help Bryce contact Midgard.

the maas multiverse
Tumblr media Tumblr media
just like basically everyone else, i am absolutely obsessed the sjm multiverse and literally everything about it.
i have read all of the sjm books so far and obviously formed more theories about connections and crossovers, etc. with every passing book. but, in my initial read-through i read acotar first, so the concept of the multiverse didn't even exist in my brain yet. so any references to it went right over my head.
but oh boy am i clocking them now.
so i figured i would just compile anything possibly multiverse related here so as i continue my re-read, i can reference back.
plus i'm going to start reading house of flame and shadow here soon (if it ever arrives in the mail) and i can't wait to learn all kinds of shit about the multiverse.
if any of y'all have found things that i didn't (you can check my about me post to see where i'm at in my re-read) or if you just have things to add please reblog, comment, or send me an ask! i love talking sjm!!

How does the SJM multiverse actually work?
A deep dive (with stick figures!)

It's not really a new thought for me because I've considered it for Elucien but now I'm wondering we'll see the same for Gwynriel.
SJM doesn't really do massive time jumps once she gets her series rolling. There was 2 months between the ending of ACOWAR and ACOMAF. Another 1 -2 months between the ending of ACOMAF and ACOWAR. Maybe 4 months between ACOWAR and the novella.
And yes, SF picked up about 9 months after that but....SF was the introduction of the spin-offs that (while following individual pairings) are connected to an overarching theme. It was the book that started the current events.
When SJM introduces the possibility of a brewing war, she moves quickly. It's something we saw in TOG and ACOTAR (what with Rhys mentioning a war at the start of MAF and the war occurring about 10 months later in WAR.
The crossover takes place 6 - 9 months after SF and we'll be adding on to that timeline (depending on how long Bryce is in Prythian).
Does it make sense that this:
With a new war possible and Briallyn up to her bullshit with Koschei, we need a strong ally. We need the Spring Court's forces
Or this:
My father went to the continent again last week. / He did not invite me to accompany him. / I can only assume the fallout is approaching.
Or this:
But you and yours have more important things to think about than ancient history. My father is furious that his ally is dead, but he's not deterred. Koschei remains in play, and Beron might very well be stupid enough to establish an alliance with him too. I hope that whatever Morrigan is doing in Vallahan will counteract the damage my father will unleash.
Or this:
Tell my Vassa I'm waiting.
Or this:
Gwyn, despite the Rite, had returned to living in the library.
Or this:
So they would keep training, until they were all well and truly Valkryies.
Or this:
"The Illyrians are going to be furious about our winning, you know."
Have all just ceased to be important in 6-9 months? The bad guys don't just sit around waiting for the good guys to relax and enjoy life for a bit before pursing their evil deeds (also I just cannot imagine another awkward Solstice, especially for Elucien) 😂
Maybe the vibe I picked up in the crossover is wrong but the IC seems fairly relaxed for a group of people worrying about an upcoming war. Feyre arrived in painting clothes, Rhys had his smirky High Lord persona going on, Nesta was all but smacking Cassian up over the head.
I realize I'm reading into a few paragraphs but I'd think if Bryce had arrived in Prythian while everyone was really concerned about Koschei, Spring, etc., the IC wouldn't be in the right frame of mind to deal with her in CC3 or they'll come off a bit frazzled, wrapped up in their own problems that they have within their own world. Not to mention it is a bit of overkill in terms of things for them to worry about (adding the possibility of new villains being able to enter their world when they're already dealing with unrest in the continent, the courts, the human lands and issues with Beron and Koschei is excessive).
(I cannot stop imaging the spin offs to Captain America Civil War and the crossover to Avengers Infinity War / Endgame)
But what if CC2/CC3 is set in the future for all the characters, AFTER the ACOTAR spin-off series is complete? What if the crossover and the signing of the new books is SJM telling us where she's going AFTER the Elucien and Gwynriel books?
What if SJM will now be writing the next 2 ACOTAR books in the timeframe that exists between SF and CC2/CC3 and neither of them will actually mention the events of CC? (since Elucien and Gwynriels journey's deal with very different things, they could easily run on parallel timelines, things happening within the NC and things happening in Spring / on the continent).
I could see Elucien and Gwynriel having their romantic arcs where they deal with Koschei, the Illyrians, the treaty, Spring, yada yada, and where they put a stop to the civil war setup before it happens. Where by the end, all the characters are happily living their best lives with their partners only for SJM to introduce the real threat heading their way, and those books would feature multiple character POVs.
I think the crossover stuff is going to be too big a deal for us to read about it in someones romantic arc and I think if the Asteri do try to make it to Prythian, it's going to involve all the courts, human lands, continent (and therefore more POVs than the ones an Elucien or Gwynriel's books will provide). Can you imagine a book after the spin-off series that features everyone: Feysand POVs, Elucien POVs, a Helion POV, Nessian and Gwynriel POVs, an Eris POV, a Mor POV?
To me, the spin-offs don't feel like SJM is building up to one couple being the big closer. I have a hard time imagining Elain and Lucien getting the grand finale but that's because I don't think any of these romantic pairings seem to rise above the other, that any single couple should get the big end scene especially not in the book where it's centered around their romance (Feysand got together in book 2 with the war in book 3). It's almost like it's a chess game and SJM is getting her pieces into position. Nessian as the generals of the Illyrians and female fighting units. Whatever roles Gwynriel will step into, and Elucien as the leaders of (Spring)?
And once those pieces are in position, then they can all join together for a reason that unifies them all.
There was a fire burning in the townhome at the end of CC2, a place that is supposed to be sitting vacant. What if Gwynriel is already living there? What if Elain wasn't mentioned because she's already in Spring / Day with Lucien?
I don't believe CC3 would spoil anything if that were the case, I don't think we're going to have any real idea of who is with who romantically aside from the already established couples.
If Elain shows up in the crossover, still living with Rhys and Feyre than it shuts down this theory all together. But if she doesn't make an appearance or is casually mentioned as being elsewhere, it could be hinting that she is with Lucien already.
And yes, SF ended where Elain and Lucien weren't interacting and Az was obviously not completely over mor but MAF started with Feyre engaged to and in love with Tamlin, only to end up as High Lady of the NC and in love with, mated to Rhys within 6 months. Based on SJMs writing style, if CC picks up 6-9 months after SF, that does given both Elain / Lucien and Az / Gwyn time to have their character and romantic arcs especially if they're running on a parallel timeline.
