GQ & ADLAD CPN
Tumblr media
@accio-victuuri has a post about some of the CPN from the GQ feature on GG. There are a couple more CPNs that I wanted to talk about because - with the exception of a couple of tidbits - I haven't seen turtles talking about some things that really stood out to me.
Both of the tidbits being discussed by BXG are based on fake rumors from the past.
Godly Back
Turtles feel that the backless jacket might be what was referred to in the recent LRLG rumor (Apparently wangwang senbei can be a homophone sounding like 'godly back').
Tumblr media
In this context, "You saw what I wore, can you please choose something normal" becomes hilarious. 😅
If he really was talking about GG's back, well... DD, the rest of the internet agrees with you given the hotsearch that was trending on both the main and entertainment hotsearches. 😅
Tumblr media
Xiao Zhan's back ditch is so deep
GGDD and ADLAD
This one I wanted to dig more deeply into because it's connected to a few different CPN from a long time ago, and a lot of turtles might not be aware of all these connections.
In the GQ interview GG mentioned he was really nervous for the first performance of ADLAD.
At the time a LRLG rumor came out with some exchanges between GG and DD in the days leading up to that first show. GG talks about being nervous, DD and his staff video call him to wish him Jiayou, and at one point - presumably the last time they talk before that first show - DD video calls with GG and closes off by giving him a high 5.
Tumblr media
The day after the first show, GG posted on Weibo.
Tumblr media
At the time there was a lot of speculation about what that second photo was. One of the theories was that GG had screen capped DD's hand high-5-ing his phone. Some fans even tried doing that themselves (screencapping their hands up against their phone cameras to see what would happen) with somewhat similar results - photos that were an ombre of pale pink to red.
Some additional CPN
When I saw GG talking in GQ about the first ADLAD show and how nervous he was and I saw turtles looking back over the LRLG rumors from that time, I decided to look over those rumors myself. I found a couple things there that really hit me in the gut, but which I haven't seen other turtles discussing.
Magician DD
One thing that stood out to me from the ADLAD LRLG rumor was when DD told GG he could do magic, and told his staff that only GG believed him.
Tumblr media
Back in 2021 a series of pages called the 300G were released, which claimed to be transcripts of some of the best unseen moments from The Untamed BTS (300GB of BTS footage was reportedly sold to BXG fansites). They were translated by an all-star team of some of the best BXG translators and overall fandom MVP on Twitter back in the day (god I miss those days of Twitter 😢).
Disclaimer: We must remember that these are unconfirmed transcripts. As far as I know, none of the footage that could substantiate these transcripts has ever been released, so it could just be someone's fanfic.
Anyway, my absolute favorite moment in those transcripts was an exchange between GG and DD, when GG had been struggling with nailing a scene. My synopsis from a post I made about GG and DD's personalities a while back:
GG is having a hard time getting a take right for a scene, and the director tells him to take a break. DD scoots over to where GG is resting and holds out his two fists facing downward in front of GG and asks him to pick one for a surprise. GG agonizes a bit over which one to choose, but finally picks a hand. DD gives GG a mysterious smile and asks GG to hold out his hand. GG does, and DD opens his fingers over GG’s palm. There’s nothing there. DD says, “I’ve just given you some luck, so that on your next take, you will succeed.” GG asks what is in the other hand and DD turns it over and opens it and says, “See, there’s nothing there! Zhan-ge is so good, you guessed right on the first try!” GG rolls his eyes at DD and says, “WYB, in your heart, do you think I’m more than 10 years old?” On the next take, GG nails the scene.
So it's just possible that DD and GG have a long history of this type of exchange, of DD giving GG his 'magical' support. GG is just superstitious enough that it might genuinely help him, and anyway, who could fail to be soothed by such sweet magic? 🥹
GG and Sleep
Another thing that stood out to me is when GG talked about being unable to sleep. Honestly this part of the interview really got me because I have always struggled with extreme insomnia and I could totally feel his pain. I've tried so many of the things that he's tried, and have had similarly mixed/poor results.
Anyway, aside from the aromatherapy candle CPN that's been heavily discussed in the fandom, what stood out to me CPN-wise was the fact that LRLG rumors have (I think this has happened at least a few times, but I can't recall specifics), featured moments where it seemed like GG and DD left their phone/video calls active to keep each other company when the other one was sleeping.
In the ADLAD LRLG rumor there's a moment when it seems like GG might be having difficulty sleeping and DD keeps him company.
Tumblr media
Find someone who will keep you company over the phone while you try to take a nap. 🥹
Firecrackers
Just another quick thing from that same rumor, DD talks about wanting to set off some firecrackers for GG, which... ugh, so sweet. My god.
His staff encourages him to do it, and he says he will be 'taken away' if he does (maybe get into trouble, likely exaggerated a bit), and his staff says he'll cover for DD.
Tumblr media
In Chinese culture (and in fact, in many cultures), firecrackers are considered very lucky because they are believed to drive away evil spirits and bad luck (which is why they're such a feature of Spring Festival celebrations).
GG and DD always look out for each other, and this CPN around ADLAD and around GG's sleep struggles really hit me hard. I love them both so damn much!

Who else wants to rehash LRLG highlights? Because I do!!!
I have been having a really shitty month so far (and I'm a Leo so this month should be a happy exciting one!! Sigh) and today I hit several walls with some doctor visits and just needed something to get me through the day.
I came on to ask for your favorite inspiring quotes/moments from YiZhan and instead I got LRLG??!!!!!!! Best cheer to inject into this shitty day.
I love the quotidian nature of LRLG, the day-to-day of shared life and of people intersecting. There's always some sweetness, and yet the sweetest parts are often the most mundane.
That said, Yibo has some incredibly romantic things to say in these snippets??!!! 😳😳
There are a lot of sweet moments in here (DD being in awe of GG's beauty! DD has never been more relatable haha!) but just to pick out a few:
(Gonna put these in my own words/with my own interpretation; you know the drill, these conversations are often hard to parse anyway, and I am not a native speaker!)
DD wanting GG to visit, and saying that if GG forgets something when he comes (I took this as, "who cares about packing, just come"), they can just buy it. We don't get GG's reply, but based on context I implied that GG teases him, "oh really, NOTHING is missing at all, you have EVERYTHING?" And DD says, "You're missing; I can't buy you [at the store]."
🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
And then when DD and staff are talking about a staff member's partner/relationship. Lots of teasing; I'm so glad he has this camaraderie around him. One staff member teases him that we can't all have the idyllic romance DD and GG do, and DD answers back with seriousness that I really loved:
Do your relationship in the way that makes you two feel comfortable. Work through your differences, and the rest will slot into place.
🥹💛💛💛
It's encouraging to me that even when my own life and health are going poorly, there are moments of joy and happiness for people who deserve it, and queer couples having healthy, growing relationships.
May DD always have this hopeful light inside him burning brightly, and may he and GG always have what they need to work through their differences and through the hardships they encounter in life.
I also love how they both make an effort to meet in the middle. That's how healthy relationships are done! GG travels to see DD, and DD takes care of him with time to rest and a neck massage ❤️💛💚.
One day all queer folks will get to live openly. I truly believe that.

Commentary ~ Little Red Little Green Episode 29, “The Soup Saga”
Link to original post in Chinese, posted 2022/07/17. Link to official English translation.
(Disclaimer / Notes + Commentary under the cut!)
Disclaimer / Notes:
While the posts by Little Red Little Green (LRLG) are among my most favourite candies, they are also fake rumours, ie, all CPN below!
The English translation linked above is the only one authorised by the Fake Rumour House; therefore, please treat the content below as a very casual, very *unofficial* convo between fellow turtle friends, and please, do not move it from this platform. ❤️💛💚
Episode 29 had an interesting characteristic that hadn’t been apparent in past LRLG episodes — more than being a compilation of often unrelated tidbits of convo, this episode had a story arc buried within these tidbits.
This story arc, which was about Gg travelling to Dd’s place to drink soup, is the focus of the commentary. The translations below, therefore, covers only the relevant parts of the original rumour; the full text can be found in the official translation. Hopefully, though, the “piecemeal” approach here will manage to make the story more clear.
Okay, with all that said *phew* … onto the commentary!
=
Part 1: The (Not) Seduction, or, in which Dd really, really didn’t care if Gg would come visit
Scene I:
💚: What are you laughing at? 💚: It’s alright, just a little too hot. 💚: Then you go bury himself in the fridge. 💚: * Sighs * (You) have time to play, but don’t have time to come see me. 💚: Fine, don’t come.
Maybe Dd sent Gg some photos from his film set and Gg thought Dd looked funny and started laughing? Anyway, it was hot where Dd was shooting — timing wise, Dd should be working on One and Only, in Hangzhou that was VERY HOT this summer, not just a little. Gg probably complained about being hot where he was as well (Beijing), and Dd helpfully suggested Gg to go bury himself in the fridge (which is, in all fairness, a common enough suggestion to complaints of heat).
Gg must have told Dd about something he had done for fun — timing size, this should be after he had wrapped up the filming of his latest series. Dd * sighed * then and mused, Gg had time to have fun, but no time to visit him. The language-y thing to note about what Dd said here was… in its original Chinese text, he didn’t addressed Gg directly; Chinese syntax allowed him to say what he said without using “you”, which English syntax didn’t. This indirect way of expressing his wish — the direct way would have been “Gg, you come see me” — along with the * sigh *, made Dd sound more sad-puppy than his words might have sounded resentful.
Gg probably explained why he had to stay in Beijing (work obligations, perhaps?) and Dd had to maintain his dignity — how could Gg reject a sad puppy? And so he was like, fine, I don’t care. * insert likely indignant puppy huff here *.
Scene II:
💚: This is probably chicken breast? Or something? It’s got no flavour. 💚: This soup is delicious. 💚: I searched, there are no locations in Beijing. 💚: Well, it isn’t a chain. 💚: Then, why don’t you find time to come here and drink some soup? 💚: Drink soup! So don’t come if you don’t want to drink it.
Dd is never one to give up! The sad puppy-ness failed to work in Scene I; so this scene introduced the second weapon of seduction: food.
From a bystander’s perspective, the food … didn’t sound promising. The original text actually didn’t make clear at all that the flavourless-chicken-breasty-something  was * not * part of the supposedly tasty soup. It could’ve been a separate dish, but the first time I read it, I thought the flavourless-chicken-breasty-something was part of the soup. I imagined Dd spooning the meat, having a taste of it while talking to Gg, before finishing the liquid part of the soup.
Personally, I would be suspicious … very, very suspicious about the quality of a soup with flavourless meat-like things floating in it.
But hey, what do I know? Because ...
Gg was interested! (!!!!!) He must have asked about the restaurant the soup was bought from, because Dd claimed the restaurant had no locations in Beijing — it wasn’t a chain. Given the lack of local access to this piece of fine cuisine, didn’t it make complete logical sense, then, for Dd to subsequently ask Gg: would you like to come (to Hangzhou) and try the soup?
Alas, such a logical flow of dialogue Dd had going, and still, it failed to escape Gg that that an ulterior motive might have existed for Dd to make that suggestion. This suspicion by Gg likely led to Dd insisting: Drink Soup! (That’s what you’ll be here for! Visiting me isn’t part of it!) and to preserving his dignity again, with: if you don’t want to drink the soup, then don’t come * insert another likely sad puppy huff here *.
Tumblr media
Some c-turtles wondered if Dd could’ve been drinking Hangzhou’s famous 蒓菜湯. Personally, I’m leaning towards a no because 蒓菜 (the green veggie) has an okra-like sliminess, which Dd would likely have noted.
=
Part 2: Victory!
👨 = TM1 (Team Member 1) 👩 = TM2 (Team Member 2)
👨: (He) can come? 💚: ☺️  (He) can. 👩: How can it be for soup drinking. 💚: It’s just too hot.
Well, apparently, flavourless-chicken-breasty-something tasty soup was gourmet enough to lure Gg over to Hangzhou (reminder: Gg is a picky, picky eater). Gg was coming! How happy was Dd? The smile emoji said it all (Tumblr would not let me post the original emoji, which was very Dd)(Many emojis are very Dd). TM2 pointed out the (VERY) obvious: Gg’s real reason for visiting had nothing to do with the soup. Dd, who just said in Scene 1 that it was just a little hot where he was, suddenly decided then that where he was was too hot ... for his visitor, one can only assume. (Dd, how many pieces of white hair have you gained this summer?)
=
Part 3: The Very Complex Rituals of Soup Drinking
Gg was in town! Soup drinking, as it turned out, involved much more than spooning flavoured liquid into one’s mouth for these two. The following serves as a sample of what constituted Gg’s and Dd’s Very Complex Rituals of Soup Drinking.
i. Packing a Whole House and Bringing it Over
💚: (You) brought (our) home over. ❤️: I’m bringing you clothes. I’ll take (home) what you have. You keep these. ❤️: Here’s a box of local speciality. XX’s gift. I can’t finish it at home.
Awwww. Imagine Dd’s room piled high with clothes from home and food and everything Gg imagined Dd might need, even if once in a blue moon ... plus “cute” decorations like the “Garlic Q” merchandise.
Tumblr media
蒜Q “Garlic Q” (pronounced “Suan Q”) is a near-homophone of the popular internet slang 栓Q (pronounced “Shuan Q”), which is itself the near-homophone of  ... believe it or not, “Thank You” in English. When Chinese netizens say 栓Q, they mean “thank you” in a sarcastic way. The near-homophone joke plus the sheer unsightliness of this garlic makes this a very, * very * Gg thing.
ii. Teasing
Soup drinking requires warm-up exercises for the mouth, I suppose?
❤️: Why are you looking at me? 💚: I can’t look? ❤️: Can you get full looking at me? 💚: I can. ❤️: I can’t get full looking at you. I’m hungry.
Those who’ve watched CQL’s BTS and promotional material probably remembers the way Dd always looked at Gg. This tiny piece of convo harks back to that Dd who couldn’t stop looking at Gg, and Gg teased him. “To look at something until the looker is full” is a common phrase in Chinese, meaning to look at something for all it is worth. When that something is someone, it’s strongly implied that that someone is exceptionally attractive. This sentiment — that looking at physical attractiveness can stave off hunger — is an old one: an ancient idiom, 秀色可餐 beauty that can be consumed as meals, describes exactly the same thing.
Now, take what I just said, and interpret what Gg said to Dd in the end (OUCH Gg!!).
(Because Chinese culture isn’t praise-heavy compared to, for example, American culture, Gg’s response is more playful teasing than being mean. In the BTS, as well as other LRLGs, Gg has consistently delayed / withheld expected praises for Dd as a way of play.)
(My parents does the exact same thing to me 😂.)
iii. Spit-fire bantering
Another mouth warm-up exercise for soup drinking ... (Yeah, I know, I know, there are other ways to do mouth warm-ups. We’re keeping this G-rated here, all right? 😛) To preserve the rhythm of the following banter, I’m translating it with minor sacrifices to semantic and grammatical accuracy and instead, with emphasis on the curtness of each line, and the way Gg and Dd mirrored each other in phrasing to keep the pace fast.
💚: What are you doing? ❤️: Secret. 💚: Then I know. ❤️: Know what. You don’t know. 💚: Fine fine fine. I don’t know. ❤️: You real-know or fake-know? 💚: I real-know. ❤️: How do you know? 💚: I just know. ❤️: Then you don’t know. 💚: Right right right. I don’t know. Don’t know. ❤️: What’s wrong with you, young child? 💚: What’s wrong with you, old child? ❤️: I’m leaving. 💚: * laughs * ❤️: You’ve got too much time on your hands.  💚: I’m wrong I’m wrong I’m wrong.
(And here’s the most ... pointless convo I have the honour of posting in this blog.)
iv. Getting Ass-On-Fire Furious
Chinese culinary art is big on the idea of 火候, the amount of fire 火 the chef puts into the dish. Too little, and the food fails to release its fragrance and takes in flavour; too much, and it’s burnt, tough, and its original flavours gone.
So here’s Gg, bringing fire into the soup-drinking rituals ...
👩 = TM2 (Team Member 2)
💚: Why do you keep moving? Move again, and you’ll fall off. ❤️: Ass on fire. 💚: Oh, don’t irk you, right? ❤️: 😒 💚: Still irking. 👩: Why don’t you two research on what to have for dinner? ❤️: I’m full with anger. 👩: If you don’t want to go out, we can buy dinner in advance. ❤️: Let’s eat out. It’s on me, but he’s paying. 💚: I didn’t say it’s on you and you’re paying! ❤️: I can’t stay here any longer. 👩: Me too. 💚: 😳 👩: I’m full already. ❤️: Blame him. 💚: This is blamable? ❤️: Still blaming. 👩: Please call me when dinner’s here. I’m leaving early.
Imagine this scene starting with Gg and Dd on a bench. Dd kept trying to sit closer to Gg; Gg kept scooting away from him.
Gg was. Just. So. Furious. Just look at how dramatic he was! He almost fell off the bench avoiding Dd. He said he couldn’t eat anymore with all the RAGE in him — to be angry, in Chinese, is 生氣, literally, to grow gas, and the original Chinese text had Gg said that he was full because of all that angry gas inside him. He was so angry that Dd was paying for their dinner (while he, Gg, was still the one treating!!) He was so angry, in fact, that he couldn’t stay at the place for a moment longer, and oh, Dd was to blame for everything, including for TM2′s feeling full. Someone else’s digestive state not being a thing that can be blamed on others? Did Angry!Gg care? Nooooo ...
And yet, Dd didn’t sound particularly concerned. Yes, he agreed that Gg was treating but not paying (!!), but he also promised to continue to aggravate Gg (”Still irking”). Even more strangely, TM2, who had to be a subordinate of Dd, ignored Gg’s fury as well, and asked about the logistics of dinner as if the significant other of her boss wasn’t consumed with rage in front of her.
What was going on? Didn’t Gg’s FEELINGS (TM) matter?
To understand the depth, the chilli-heat that was Gg’s anger, we must hear it from the man himself. No better understanding could be gained than really, truly, fully listening, and appreciating the description he gave to his own ire.
屁股冒火. Literally, flames emitting from the butt. Ass-on-fire.
That was intense.
And that … was yet another popular internet meme. The full phrase was 屁股冒火別惹我 or 屁股帶火別惹我 Ass on fire; don’t irk me — hence, Dd’s response to Gg, after Gg described his mood. Memes, of course, come with graphics (and the ones Gg likes, ugly graphics), and the memes I found below perfectly capture the hellfire, the blood and brimstone harboured by this phrase:
Tumblr media
The price of liking Gg: having to post eye-sores pretending to be memes on your blog.
Frightening, isn’t it? I’m shaking, literally, as I stare at these ... organic rockets (not telling what I’m shaking with). No wonder Dd and TM2 reacted to Gg’s anger the way they did.
One more amusing tidbit about this convo was 👩 TM2’s reactions to the highpoint of Gg’s drama. When Gg claimed he couldn’t stay any longer (he. was. just. so. furious), TM2 said “Me too” and at Dd’s reaction — the description of that emoji 😳 was “flushed” — her response was she was already full, but unlike Gg’s full, her fullness * was * from eating (吃飽; Gg’s full was from 氣飽). While it was possible she had just eaten a snack or a meal, her “Me too” came at a strange place — if Gg had just claimed he couldn’t stay because Dd’s irking was driving him away, then, for TM2 to say “Me too” as the immediate response, she had to imply that something was driving her away as well — hence, Dd’s 😳; it wasn’t an expected response.
But recently-consumed food was hardly capable of driving the consumer away from a scene; TM2 also asked to please call her when dinner arrived, which meant she was still planning to have dinner. Gg’s response “Blame him (Dd)” further suggested that what made TM2 full … might not have been actual food at all, despite it was also something TM2 had eaten.
So, what was it?
In Chinese slang, when a couple was behaving in (nauseatingly) sweet couple-ly ways, it’s called 撒狗糧 — literally, scattering dog chow. And so, some c-turtles postulated that TM2 might have gotten full from such “dog chow”, from watching Gg and Dd interacting the way they had. Hence, Dd’s flushed reaction. Hence, TM2 claiming she had “eaten” herself full — “dog chow”, though figurative, still counted as food. She might have also witnessed the event leading to this convo as well — since Gg didn’t seem to be truly angry but was feigning to be, could it be that Dd had done something … lovey-dovey that had embarrassed him? This hypothesis, therefore, had Gg and Dd themselves driving TM2 away from the scene: she couldn’t stand their xxj 小學雞 style of romance any longer and had to flee 😂.
Tumblr media
Why is it called 撒狗糧? Because single people in China have given themselves the self-effacing label 單身狗, literally, single dog. The (not always welcomed) sweetness emitted by couples on days like Valentine’s Day, or 七夕 Qixi, was like alms for these poor single dogs who didn’t have a partner -- since the best alms for dogs are dog chow, such sweetness has been called dog chow and the (un)intentional emission of such sweetness by couples, the scattering of dog chow.
=
Part 4: The Verdict
Now, after all the complex rituals, the home packing and mouth exercises and the human rocket, what was the verdict? Was the soup worth the visit?
❤️: This soup is delicious? 💚: Oh. It’s not delicious? ❤️: Here. You have a mouthful of it here. 💚: * laughs * ❤️: You lied. 💚: * sad puppy eyes * I didn’t. ❤️: Silly fool. 💚: You scolded me. ❤️: Eat! You liar! ❤️: (You think) Without soup, I wouldn’t come? 💚: This cold dish. It’s refreshingly crunchy. ❤️: Believe you and I’m a fool.
Oh noes! It turned out (SURPRISE!) that the flavourless-chicken-breasty-something soup was not at all delicious!
Gg started this convo with disbelief; what he said could be re-worded as: What? You called this soup delicious? Dd acted surprised in return: What, it wasn’t good? Gg * imagine him stretching himself over the table, feigning to force-feed Dd a spoonful of the liquid with flavourless floating thingies *: Try it. Seriously, you’re telling me this is good?
Dd laughed then, confirming what the audience (and undoubtedly, Gg) suspected all along — Dd had always known that the soup was no good, not really worth a trip. Gg called Dd a liar accordingly, then, 瓜兮兮 — a Chongqing-nese slang meaning silly fool. Finally, he told Dd he would’ve come visit anyway, even without the soup.
Dd, being not only 瓜兮兮 but also rather thick-skinned, went on to recommend another dish, and Gg was like Yeah right, like I’ll believe you again. The literal translation of his exact words is much better though, I’ve got to say, for the grand finale of this saga:
信你個大頭鬼  Believe you big-headed ghost!!
=============
Afterthoughts ~ Why Cultural Background Matters, Etc.
So, that’s the commentary! I hope you enjoyed it. As usual, my interpretation is filtered through my own cultural background, which is different from Gg’s, Dd’s and most likely, LRLG’s.
As an example, being from the Southern Canton region (Hong Kong is geographically within the Canton, or Guangdong province) where soup drinking is HUGE, this adds another layer of chuckle-worthiness to this saga — "come back and drink soup” is most often heard from sad housewives in soap operas to their husbands, usually after said husbands had an affair and it meant, please return home and love me. Cantonese soup is believed to have medicinal properties, and it takes a lot of time and care to brew (there’s a reason why, when Gg needed some sweet soup to fight water retention, he went to a restaurant specialising in Hong Kong cuisine). Coming back to drink soup, therefore, also means accepting that care and love from the soup-maker.
I didn’t incorporate this into the commentary above though, because unless Gg or Dd or LRLG are from the same region, this piece of info isn’t relevant to the reading of this rumour. This is also why, even though I know Chinese, I can’t write a LRLG post even if I try — I don’t know enough relevant cultural info, the norms in habits, reactions, word choice etc for people with the same cultural background as Gg and Dd, to write such a post.
Gg’s last chilli words 信你個大頭鬼 Believe you big-headed ghost!! is another example. Cantonese, the dialect I speak, actually has an extremely similar phrase with the identical Believe you and I’m a fool meaning — 信你個死人頭 Believe you dead person’s head!! The two phrases must have shared a past — the dead person = ghost is there, the head is there.
But they just aren’t interchangeable. (Chongqing liars have bigger heads, maybe?)
In the interest of full disclosure, I shall say this here — I have this gut feeling that the hands behind this episode of LRLG may be different from the ones before. There are lots of similarities in how the material is presented, but there’s also a slight difference in style (the presence of a story arc being one), and also, in the presentation of Gg and Dd that I can’t quite point my fingers to yet. With time, things should become more clear. As LRLG posts are written in the POV of one of Dd’s team members, hands can change — it may be just another team member recalling, arranging the tidbits. This is a reminder, however, that these posts are fake rumours at the end of the day, and should be read as such.
Last of all, LRLG’s posts often end with well-wishes, and Episode 29 was no exception. The first well-wish was Happy Birthday — probably referring to Dd’s birthday (this episode was posted mid-July). The second, meanwhile, was 長樂未央 Long lasting, never-ending joy, a popular well-wish from Han dynasty two thousand years ago (202 BC - 220 AD), during which people would carve these words on their roof tiles as a blessing for their homes:
Tumblr media
The tiled roof of Chinese ancient buildings. The circular ends are where the excavated tiles in the lower row, with 長樂未央 carved on them, once fit.
Why am I drawing attention to the well-wishes? They’re often sweet aside, referencing ancient text appears to be a Gg thing too (as much as his very questionable taste in memes) — for those who’re interested, here’s a piece I wrote about the recent Hibiscus candy.
And this love, this respect for ancient Chinese culture, along with everything else in this post (all right, I admit ... including the ugly memes), makes the geek in me very, very happy.
❤️.💛.💚.

Many "gifts" from GG and DD
So much has happened over the past three or four days that I couldn’t even gather my thoughts together to make a post.
Of course, everyone already knows about the cameras Leica, about the number of GG's photos (18-33-28 and 18-25-23), about camping and the cake with sheep, and so on.
I want to write about some moments that especially impressed me, in addition to the main “candies” that fell upon us in abundance. This post will probably turn out to be chaotic, but I am now very impressed by everything, and there are a lot of emotions.
Everything is fake, fiction and my stupid fantasies, don’t pay attention.🤡🤡🤡
“Everything is cute, everything is cool.” We saw the phrase in the post by GG's studio: “Life is bright, everything is cute.” Less than a day has passed (namely 19 hours 50 minutes), and YBO replies: “Everything is cool collected”. And we're reminded of the old LRLG fake material where it was about "ok, you're cool, I'm cute." Can anyone say that this is the coincidence?! This is the real dialogue during short time!
Tumblr media
Yesterday DD again showed us many photos with Leica. It would seem, why focus so much attention on it? It's funny that if you leave a comment or repost, the effect with flying small pink cameras appears on Weibo:
Tumblr media
It occurred to me to count all the DD's photos from the trip to Paris on Weibo and Instagram (including duplicate of photos), where the camera Leica M11 is present. You won't believe. There are 23 of them. The word “coincidence” already gives me a callus on my tongue.
Yesterday DD stunned everyone with his 100500 photos around the small iron pole. Turtles on Weibo wondered why he paid so much attention to this inconspicuous place. And it turned out that it was not in vain! Of course, this is the street corner with special numbers - 23 rue Bachelet 75018.
Tumblr media
And also the red-yellow-green dog, and DD standing proudly against the background of bicycles. When GG traveled abroad in February, there was the episode in his video where he was in front of motorcycles. Such a funny "exchange".
Tumblr media
There are also some interesting things in the GG's birthday photos and video. For example, in some photos GG looks strikingly similar to DD. The turtles mostly took notice of this photo. If you close the right half of the face, you get an almost mystical resemblance.
Tumblr media
But I also noticed another photo, the first time I saw it, I really thought it was DD. How can this be? It really looks like some kind of magic.
Tumblr media
Of course, GG put on the little lion again. It is interesting that it was in this jacket that GG returned from Paris to Beijing in March (Paris again!). And it was in it that he was photographed for his birthday. And this is not the first time that the little lion appears in the GG's birthday photos. By the way, one more interesting detail: it seems that this particular jacket is hanging in the background in the famous GG's photo that captivated everyone:
Tumblr media
The phone card case appears again:
Tumblr media
Inscription in the sky. In GG’s video at 4:16, a certain effect appears that resembles the legendary “wangxiao” inscription; in one of the BTS of “The Untamed” GG puts his name under DD’s name and then crosses it out in embarrassment. I'm not really sure if this is intentional or just a visual effect and abstraction, but it looks very similar!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Chinese turtles, at least, were very enthusiastic about this effect (and they are still better versed in written characters than I am). Even if it's not intentional, it looks amazing because it really does look a lot like those signatures.
At the end of GG’s vlog, the phrase appears: “So, did you come up with a name?” (所以, 想好名字了?), this seems to be a reference to the ending of The Untamed when Wei Ying said, "You need to come up with a name for this song":
Tumblr media
Another thing that no one seems to have noticed is the DD's Douyin video. Look at the time of publication. This is the screenshot from my phone, I'm in the same time zone as Paris, in Europe. In China at this time it was 16:05. Don't you think that this is another gremlin-DD's trick - to make the post on 5.10 at 10:05, but in Paris time? In my opinion, this is quite in his style.
Tumblr media
And a little about personal impressions.
Interesting is the photo where GG is holding the cake with sheep. This is the only photo in his first photoshoot where he is smiling. In the rest of the photos he is thoughtful, even seemingly sad, and in some places stern. Only in this photo does GG have bright and gentle expression on his face, and the special smile, the look in the other photos is completely different, tougher or directed inward of himself. Even the jeans he's wearing don't appear anywhere else except in this photo. It seems to me that this is the special photo, taken by the special person and at a different time. Can be compared with other photos supposedly taken by DD.
This is probably very subjective, but it seems to me that there is some subtle similarity in these photos. Love. Well, I think so.

The Road is Long
Tumblr media
By now most people have likely heard some mutterings about shakeups in turtledom. Let's talk about that a bit.
Disclaimer: As always, everything I say is a reflection of my own understanding of things, my own values and ideas and opinions. There are precious few verified facts available here, so we can never know for sure what the real truth is. Therefore, don't take what I say as fact. It's just my opinion, some melancholy musings, and a bit of CPN. Totally fake, of course.
Today is a day of tremendous grief among turtles, as it is believed by many that the person who was handling the LRLG posts has been shifted off of DD's staff. They made a contribution to the rumor house saying simply, "See you next time."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I saw that I was heartbroken, as were many turtles. If you've been following LRLG at all, "See you next time" has frequently been their sign-off when making a post. If it's a goodbye, it would be a fitting - and poignant - one, made sadder by the context of this situation.
It's also an important reminder that nothing is permanent. We may see more from LRLG one day.
As of my screen cap, the post already has 18,000 comments. Most of them are tearful and grateful, showering LRLG in thanks for all the blessings and stories they've shared with us. Turtles are crying together, sharing supportive messages and gratitude, and being overall the sweet-hearted people they tend to be. Just loving GG and DD and restating their commitment to support them both through thick and thin.
The top comment is a photo of some turtle graffiti, saying, "The summer that belongs to us, no one can take away."
Tumblr media
Of course, it wouldn't be a turtle post without some CPN, and many turtles have been pointing out that if the staff changes and removal of LRLG is real, then all the posts from LRLG are likely also real.
But we already knew that. LRLG has come through with proven messages time and again. This is just more confirmation of what many turtles already believed.
But why is this happening?
No one knows the whole story, and most of it is speculation based on various events and situations that have been unfolding over the past several months. However, the generally accepted narrative at this point is that DD's management has begun to cave under pressure from toxic solo fans who have been pushing a lot of demands, causing a lot of commotion and threatening to boycott the YH concert next month.
Up until recently DD's team has been completely ignoring these behaviors (and IMHO, rightly so). No one knows why the approach has shifted, but there are a lot of possible reasons. One of the likeliest being that investors/backers in DD's career and projects, and in YH (since it's now on the HK stock exchange) have caught wind of the toxic fan situation and are getting nervous.
From the perspective of a single-minded moneybags it looks a lot like DD's team isn't keeping the traffic happy, which wouldn't bode well for their bottom line. So of course, they will want something done to restore order.
What they don't appear to be aware of is just how much of DD's traffic is from turtles. As CP fans, turtles don't have the status to make demands like solos do (nor are they so toxic), so they just have to sit by and watch these changes that are harming turtles. They have no recourse.
Some turtles are disillusioned with DD because they've always seen him as the guy who would never back down. Some are angry and hurt and turning away from DD because of it.
What they don't seem to realize is that it's completely out of DD's hands. He would not be at liberty to go against what his backers want. They will no doubt have convincing reasons why this is what's best for his career, and why it's necessary.
This is just more of the squeeze GG and DD have been under from the beginning. They are commodities - they are businesses. GG said it in his interview not long ago. They all work for 'the star'.
“There are two Xiao Zhans, one of them is here, that’s me. There is another Xiao Zhan, the Xiao Zhan in quotes, but he is probably not me anymore. We are all working for him, including myself.”
As businesses that employ a lot of workers and bring in a lot of money, GG and DD aren't at liberty to do whatever they want. They have financial and contractual considerations to deal with. They have reputational and governmental issues to deal with.
The central focus of business and financial entities is always how to avoid and mitigate risk. To those with a stake in GG and DD's careers (and with every new project and endorsement the number of stakeholders grows), the important thing is to ensure maximum profitability with minimum risk. Fan wars represent risk. Toxic solo demands represent risk. Fan boycotts represent serious risk. Turtles - to some degree I'm sure in the minds of many - represent risk. Danmei and all things associated with it represents risk.
If GG and DD want to keep doing what they do, they will have to keep these stakeholders happy. They have a financial and contractual obligation to do so.
The reality is, we've always known GG and DD are in a precarious position. We've always known the government is against danmei. We've always known that things were tightening up and getting worse and worse every year.
Turtles have no standing as fans. As I've said many times when talking about endorsement brand candies, it's highly unlikely that turtles are taken into consideration when calculating GG and DD's fan bases and fan power. When everyone is sitting around the table having deep conversations about how to keep fans happy, it's highly unlikely that turtles are taken much into consideration, if at all.
DD's team has been ignoring toxic motos and their demands, but they've only gotten worse. They've been leaving hateful comments and lists of demands in response to everything his team posts, and elsewhere. They reported YH to the government for unfair ticketing of the concert*. They've been vocal enough that stakeholders and even some passersby will be aware of their discontent. They've been threatening to boycott the YH family concert next month (which, by the way, turtles have stepped up and bought all the tickets motos refused to buy, and will be making a big showing there).
*And they apparently discovered in response that YH isn't the producer of the show, it's produced by another company in a province that the gov't department doesn't have jurisdiction over. So there are theories that maybe the ticketing approach was part of the production agreement.
And it seems finally someone came along and demanded that DD's team does something to appease these toxic little bitches motos. These aren't just some random group of fans, they're organized and ring-led by DD's biggest fan club. That's the sort of thing that will make stakeholders nervous.
The changes to his Weibo bio are likely part of this - not necessarily directly as a result of motos, but also because of what I was talking about before - risk. Danmei is officially condemned by the government. CQL is a danmei drama.
And some of the changes to his team seem to have happened long before now. Remember, we used to get a lot of exciting, affectionate, interesting content from YBO. The video updates, the comic strips, the little anecdotes from his daily life. All of that has gone away a long time ago, and we've been getting increasingly dry, increasingly unimaginative, officious updates (maybe time to rebrand as 'Yibo Officious' 🤔?).
More of that is likely to come. DD's team appears to be wielding a sledgehammer now, not a poet's pen. Just this morning they posted some photos from DD's Moncler event, and attempted to crudely photoshop the numbers from his sleeve.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For those who were unaware, the text on the sleeve reads: "MF: 032/33." This is a Moncler FRGMT varsity jacket with a limited edition of 33 in the world. DD's is 32 of 33. (And has a big yellow flower on it, I might add.)
Why would they try to hide that DD is wearing one of only 33 jackets that exist in the world? Obviously because 32 is a number that will be associated with turtles/GG. But in attempting to obscure it they are acknowledging that it's a CP number. And who chose that number?
Well, repos say that DD spent a lot of time trying on clothes and deciding on an outfit, and we know how much he loves the numbers 2 and 3 (ai zan - love Zhan). The kadian of the jacket would read, "Zhan love/ZhanZhan."
As some c-turtles have rightly pointed out: the team can photoshop the numbers, but they can't stop him choosing them. They can remove LRLG, but they can't stop him choosing to award a prize to the seat at row 2 #30 (and then switching it to row 3 #20 when he was told there weren't 30 seats in each row) at the Chunzhen brand event, and they can't stop him from sitting in seat #5 at the Born to Fly theater during ADLAD. They can change the time when photos are posted on Weibo, but they can't change the time he sets his watch to in the photo.
EDIT: I have a theory about why this whole photoshop thing might not be as bad as it seems. More about that here.
DD will always be DD. He will always love GG. He will always care about turtles. He will always need (and deserve) our support. If he loses it, then the motos win. Don't let them succeed at their nefarious, hateful agenda. DD doesn't deserve that.
Is this the right move for DD's career?
I was among those who thought DD's team would never back down. They'd held strong for many months. But we should never underestimate the driving force of money, and like it or not (and correctly or incorrectly), in the eyes of investors motos represent traffic and profit. The money men will take over the vehicle if they feel its heading in the wrong direction. They don't care what they destroy if it saves their bottom line. But will it work?
Only time will tell, but I'm unconvinced right now. For a few reasons:
Everyone knows, paid ransom only leads to more kidnappings. The more management teams cave in to toxic fans, the more toxic they become. The more emboldened they become. The more they sharpen their knives and shoot off their mouths. It's only going to get worse. And we're talking about people who are already so full of themselves that they physically attack turtles at events. How much worse will it get? What will their next demands be?
Motos' ability to carry traffic is questionable. While DD is consistently doing well, his fans aren't doing anything spectacular for his endorsements or projects. BAH, Luoyang, his films, they did well but weren't the blockbusters some were expecting. And turtles are pulling a LOT of weight for him. If the goals of solos were successful and turtles were gone and it was only motos left, what would that look like? Maybe it's an inferiority complex from constantly being outgunned by shrimps, but I think motos vastly overestimate their own power as a group.
Further to my previous point, turtles are more powerful than they get credit for. They are constantly counted out and underestimated. DD's team might have factored the risk of upsetting solos, but I doubt they've fully calculated the risk and potential harm of alienating turtles. Although my belief (and hope) is that turtles will stay strong. Turtles have taken so many blows over the years, and they still hold the line. As one turtle heartbreakingly put it in response to LRLG's post, "😭😭😭😭😭😭I cry and I cry for nothing else. It's because the two treasures are too difficult and wronged 🥺🥺🥺 Please rest assured that we will never let go of our original intention to protect them 💚❤️💛 we will never break our promise." Some turtles get it, and it only makes them stronger and more committed. Others will be hurt and walk away. And while GG and DD are going to be fine, while their careers will likely continue to thrive, there is something special that turtles give them that is irreplaceable. If things take a bad turn with this team it wouldn't be the first time an outsider came along and carelessly destroyed something beautiful that they didn't understand. Even without the numbers game, there's a personal cost here that only turtles and GGDD will recognize and pay.
A lot of turtles are feeling emboldened, too. A lot of them are tired of covering their faces, hiding their colors and bowing down. It will be interesting to see how that factors in to everything.
We will just have to watch and wait, and see what happens. Regardless of any misgivings I might have about these issues and about his revised team, I will still continue to love and support DD. More than ever, actually. He will need our love.
LRLG is a role, not an individual
Some of you might have noticed over the past couple of years, that LRLG hasn't always kept the same tone, writing style, inflection, etc. in the messages they've shared. Many people - myself included - suspect that's because there have been shifts in staffing before, and the person doing the LRLG messages has changed in the past.
What hasn't changed is the messages or the manner in which they've been shared with us. If that's true, it's because LRLG was a role or a task that continued to be managed and filled regardless of who on staff was available to take care of it.
It's possible that role has been eliminated from the plan moving forward, which would be different from simply shifting who makes the contributions to the rumor house. I don't know for sure, but it seems like maybe there's no one left on his team who is in on it.
But that doesn't mean that LRLG won't show up again in some other capacity, or perhaps at some time in the future. Maybe the contributions will come from GG's side. We don't know.
My thoughts
Like I said earlier, this is all based on conjecture. No one knows all the details from behind the scenes. There could be a lot more to this issue than we realize. We just have to stay strong, and be patient.
In any case, it's a sad time for turtles, and there's no doubt about that. I am grieving these changes along with everyone else. It doesn't help that it comes right at the time I'm deeply grieving the anniversaries of the deaths of 2 close loved ones.
So I'm sad, very sad. Heartbroken is a better word.
I really didn't GAF about CQL being removed from DD's profile. If anything it's a bit of a relief. It can no longer be a factor. People can stop arguing about it, it can stop being such a focus. It's such an inconsequential thing. But YBO acting like turtle antis? Editing out candy and possibly removing LRLG? GUTTED.
The noose keeps tightening, and GG and DD and turtles are always the ones to pay the price.
This whole thing feels like nothing less than the triumph of homophobia, stupidity, mindless self-importance, toxicity and hate, and I've seen enough of that lately to last me several lifetimes.
One thing I know deep in my heart: GG and DD love turtles, they appreciate us, they care about us, and they will find a way to feed us and show us their love. They are smart, mischievous and resourceful, and they seem to thrive on challenges.
So take heart, my friends, and stay strong. Everything is going to be OK. The road is long.
A final word to the motos: I hate to break it to you, honey, but he's never going to marry you.
EDIT:
Follow-up post on whether everyone's wrong about LRLG leaving here.
Follow-up post about whether DD chose these changes here.
Follow-up post about the photoshopping of the jacket sleeve (and my theory about why YBO might still be our ally) here.

Since according to turtlelore, Dd has accepted Gg’s challenge to use a Suona (in the latest LRLG), this is the time to get acquainted with this interesting / horrifying instrument! In this video, Professor Liu Ying of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music played a very famous Suona piece, 百鳥朝鳳 Hundred Birds Saluting the Phoenix -- a showcase of why this instrument is a favourite for traditional celebratory events including, yes, weddings.
(It’s also a showcase of why this instrument is an absolute horror in the wrong hands, or from subpar audio equipment — say, those found in old Chinese dimsum restaurants. * have headaches from memory alone * 😂)
