When character A needs to tell character B something but they hold back in that moment thinking “there will be time” and the readers just know, ‘no, there won't be time.’ The way that makes me feel is just unmatched.

Lovely War by Julie Berry destroyed me, and I’m still in her grips. Seriously, this is my favorite book, I cried for an hour after finishing it.

HISTORICAL FICTION
#1: Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
This is SUCH A GOOD BOOK. I just finished reading it. It's about a British spy who gets captured by Nazis. It’s told by the spy telling a story to her captors. It has so many plot twists. It’s also in a series if you want to continue with the characters; I’m reading them in this order:
#2: Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein
#3: The Enigma Game by Elizabeth Wein
#4: The Pearl Thief by Elizabeth Wein
#5: Lovely War by Julie Berry
I love this book. It’s told by the Greek goddess Aphrodite, about two love stories, each taking place in WW1 and WW2. It’s a beautiful story.
#6: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
This book is a classic. A German girl becomes friends with a Jewish man, and also as the title suggests, she steals books. Also recommend watching the movie after!
WRITTEN IN THE ERA
#7: 1984 by George Orwell (1949)
I haven’t read this one yet, but from what I hear it sounds really good. From what I know, it’s about a closely monitored dystopian society.
#8: Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier (1938)
This one is on my book list. I’ve seen both the 1940 and 2020 movies. It’s about a woman who marries a guy, and everybody is still obsessed with the guy's last wife (Rebecca). It’s crazy. SUCH A BIG PLOT TWIST AT THE END.

what was the historical fiction set in france that you read? i’m always looking for good historical fiction books!
okay so this book isn't gay at all or anything but i enjoy reading historical fiction (i love WWII era historical fiction)
the book is called the paper girl of paris by jordyn taylor. it switches pov from a girl in modern times and a girl in WWII both set in paris. i didnt really like the modern pov but i really enjoyed the historical fiction part, i found it very interesting.
it wasnt the best book, but it was enjoyable.
some other of my favorite historical fiction are:
the book thief by markus zusak (which is also set during WWII)
and lovely war by julie berry (which is set in WWI, one of my favorite books i think, it is about the greek gods narrating a love story and i really loved it)
historical fiction is one of my favorite genres of books, i love talking about historical fiction.

🎶Lovely war
Julie Berry
🎶🎶🎶🎶.5 (out of five)
🎶Favorite character: Hazel and James
🎶Least favorite character: Ares
🎶Quote: “It was the dimples. Empires have swiveled on less.”
🎶Format: Hardcover.
This novel tells two stories; the first story is about Aphrodite, Hephaestus and Ares, after the lovers enter a hotel and the husband finds them, they have a trial to prove the innocence of the parties, it sounds almost ridiculous, but actually it is quite emotional and sometimes a little funny. In her defense arguments, Aphrodite tells the love story between James and Hazel, a romance that she orchestrates, which takes place in the terrible moments when the First World War, or the Great War, is in full swing. The young couple fall in love at first sight and have to survive the separation and the horrors of war.
It has a lot of beautiful phrases and despite the fact that I am not much of the "love at first sight" trope, these two lovers are very sweet and also, you have to take into account the historical situation in which they found themselves, and that marriages at first sight really happened, because young people were not sure what would happen at the front, so they wanted to have a reason to return.
There are cultural things that I don't love that the author misdescribed, but in reality they don't affect the story at all, but it bothers me LOL. Overall the whole story is beautiful and sweet.

Historical romances, stories of young, innocent love, clandestine meetings, that longing for a kiss, then parting of ways, that train taking one of them far away, writing letters and waiting for them, letters lost or left unread, a lover holding the other as a brutal wave makes them lose their balance, sticking together through the best and the worst of it—stories that break your heart but leave you smiling through the tears.
