like yes yes eddie needs to choose and buck needs to be chosen but also
Eddie needs to get over the very big trauma of losing his wife. Last time he dated someone he had literal panic attacks at the thought of her being mistaken for Chris’s mother and as much as we saw him work through in therapy we never?? really?? talked?? about?? that?? So, yeah, Eddie needs to realize that he’s at a point where he’s ready to risk his heart and give love a second chance
(and maybe realize he already did becase there already is a partner in his life who gets consistently confused for Chris’s guardian and it feels natural to him?? but he still needs to realize he’s ready for love)
And Buck needs to be ready to be in a relationship where he’s loved for who he is, where he doesn’t bend and twist to fit someone else’s expectations. And for that Buck needed to die, and needed to come back, and now he needs to process that trauma and steady himself.
(and Buck loves so quickly, so openly, so loudly, and he gives so much of himself and he wants to be loved that way, and maybe he’ll realize that he already?? is?? loved?? but he needs to let himself accept it)
so basically, it’s not only a matter of choice... eddie needs to be ready to love and buck needs to accept that he is loved if they are ever going to find each other properly together
and that, my funny little friends, is the point of their arcs were we are at right now

“Of course, there is the person you come back to: his face and body and voice and scent and touch, his way of waiting until you finish whatever you’re saying, no matter how lengthy, before he speaks, the way his smile moves so slowly across his face that it reminds you of moonrise, how clearly he has missed you and how clearly happy he is to have you back.”

Tease Tidbit Tuesday
Another small snip from my Brat!Buck fic, which I should hopefully have finished by the end of today or early tomorrow, god willing! Also I'm in desperate need of Beta's for this fic so if anyone would be willing, I'd be forever indebted to you 🥺
Tagged by @disasterbuckdiaz and @wikiangela (go read their snips now! They're ouchie)
Eddie frowns, taking small, deliberate steps towards Buck as he runs his fingers up and down the length of the riding crop. He watches as Buck’s breathing hitches as he closes the gap between them until he’s right in front of his husband, close enough to feel the ghost of his breath on his face. “Why didn’t you listen to me?” Buck licks his lips, his eyes flickers from Eddie’s face to the crop in his hands, and back again, as though he’s weighing up just how much he can get away with. “Hmmm,” he replies airily, studying his nails as though pretending to think of his answer. His tone is mocking and sets Eddie further on edge, but not as much as Buck flicking his eyes up, blazing with defiance. “Don’t wanna.” “You don’t want to? I think we’re going to have to teach you a thing about being obedient. Get on your knees, now.” Eddie watches as Buck’s eyelashes flutter from his commanding tone and he half expects his husband to sink to his knees right then and there, but Buck stands his ground. Eddie can see in his eyes that he’s pushing, finding Eddie’s buttons and tapping on each one like a concert pianist, but he won’t let Buck make him snap. Not unless that’s what Buck is craving. “Convince me that I want to” Buck says, his voice low and dancing on the edge of playful and insolent. It sparks something in Eddie, the feeling flaring up in the back of his head and threatening to engulf him. “I beg your pardon?” he asks, his voice low and threatening, and Buck’s eyes darken, his confidence wavering ever so slightly, giving Eddie a glimpse of the Buck he knows, who wants so desperately to be good. “Make me,” Buck whispers, and although the words might sound like a challenge, Eddie can so clearly hear what Buck isn’t saying. The implicit make me, because I can’t make myself, and then, Eddie gets it. Buck needs him to be in control right now, to make Buck surrender himself to Eddie’s mercy so Buck doesn’t have to do anything, to feel anything more than he already is.

One of the main themes of this show is that no matter what you do — no matter how many people you hurt — you can still make amends and learn from it and do better.
You are not defined by your worst moment.
You are still worthy of being loved even if you make mistakes.
It feels like people are missing this with Eddie right now. Is he making a mistake? Absolutely. Is he hurting people in the process? Yes, he will be once they find out. Is he now irredeemable? No, absolutely not.
That goes against the central message of the entire show.
I could go through character by character and outline how this message applies to all of them but let’s focus on the big one:
Bobby not only hurt his family emotionally with his addiction but he also (accidentally) killed them and 145 others.
He’s terrified still that this makes him unworthy of happiness. But does it? The show tells us over and over again that no, it does not. He’s still trying to make amends, and maybe will have to all his life. But he’s trying. He’s doing that work, and the world of 9-1-1 is a better place because Bobby Nash exists within it.
What Bobby did was so, so much bigger than what Eddie is doing. The intent is different, sure, but both happened because the person was in pain. Pain makes people do terrible and selfish things.
Eddie has been Bobby’s parallel before and we’re seeing it again with the Amir storyline. Both of their pasts are coming back to haunt them right now. Both will have to reckon with the consequences of their actions. Both will have to make amends.
In the world of 9-1-1, any action can be forgivable if you are willing to make amends. Anyone and everyone is deserving of love.
So when I see people in the tags outlining why it’s so unforgivable that Eddie is cheating on Marisol and why this means he doesn’t deserve to be with Buck now, I have to wonder… are we watching the same show?
If you don’t understand that he’s cheating NOT because he ‘is a cheater’ but because he sees Kim as a chance to have Shannon back then you don’t understand how deeply and desperately Eddie has rewritten their marriage in his head to be flawless.
If you don’t understand how much pain Eddie has been in over Shannon’s death since 2019 then you don’t understand Eddie.
If you don’t understand how pain will warp your perception of reality and your scope of acceptable actions then you don’t understand pain.
And if you don’t understand how forgiveness and acceptance of a loved one’s flaws are the absolute heart of this show, then you don’t understand 9-1-1.

love language.
like so much love and affection and support for tommy getting to know buck and then watching buck describe every single way he's tried to chase love in his thirty years alive on earth to never be loved back in a way he needs or wants, like give me THAT moment of TV, give me the dawning moment of horrifying awareness on tommy's face when he realizes his boyfriend 1. needs to be loved and 2. has never been loved and 3. so readily accepts anything that even comes close that he'll die for it and 4. has ZERO self awareness about any of this to the point that he thinks he's been loved before, plenty of times
