You know the whole Louisoix getting tempered thing becomes a LOT more horrific when you realize tempering is less like demonic possession and more like being turned into a zombie who's only desire is to "feed" (i.e. kill or turn others)

I guess it was sort of easy for me the first time running the Bahamut raids to just brush over it as an exciting identity fakeout plot twist. Oh this isn't the real Louisoix! Twins will be fine, we're doing cool hero stuff!

But up until Endwalker, tempering had no cure and it eventually warped the afflicted into mishapen monsters as their bodies deteriorated. If a Primal got a "bite" out of you, there was no escaping it. And it's not abstract fantasy magic to the people of Eorzea, it's a very real threat that required the straight up execution of friends and family because killing them was the only mercy you could offer.

And with Louisoix... like, this figure comes up to you sounding and looking like your grandad. You think you found him! He's alive! But then it turns violent and you realize your grandad is dead. "Something" else that's taken over and warped his body, and it wants to kill you.

Maybe some part of his memories and impulses are still in there and come through for flashes, but the thing controlling him has already won, because he's already dead. All the hopes you had of a reunion or a peaceful end for him have now been dismembered because this monster wearing his face is loose and bent on destruction.

And if you don't kill that thing yourself, and take down this hive and its leader, a LOT more people are going to die.

That's. Extremely traumatic actually.

l'aiha and louisoix's reunion in the aitiascope is SO important to me because she saw him in coils too but she kept her distance both because, due to her amnesia, she didn't feel worthy of her feelings or seeking closure with louisoix, but also because she believed the twins needed it far more than she did. louisoix had limited time to remain as himself and she doesn't regret staying back so his grandchildren could have the goodbyes they were robbed of.

but in aitiascope the twins pull a reversal; she gave them her time so they give her theirs. and she knows herself so much better this time, she's able to basically disintegrate into tears seeing her lost teacher again. tupsimati was returned to her after it was found in the wreckage of baelsar's wall, and she's carried it with her ever since; louisoix has the opportunity to correct the aether imbalances his turning into phoenix created, and so he enchants tupsimati to 'withhold' her white magic so that it's significantly less likely to burst out of control when she DOES use it.

and it's just!!!! really important to me!!! louisoix meant EVERYTHING to her pre-amnesia, and post-amnesia too! his was the very first name and face she remembered, even before her own. he was like a father to her after leaving old sharlayan, she loved him with all her being. the chance to have her closure, after she thought she never would because she wanted the twins to have theirs, filled this incredible hole in her heart. louisoix is proud of her. louisoix loves her, believes in her, remembers her.

it's just a tiny little addition to l'aiha's traversal through the aitiascope but it lives rent free in my heart 24/7 i love them ur honor o|–<

Five, six years later and the intel squads say the Scions have imploded, except whoops no they haven't they've snuck out of the regicide accusations into Ishgard and have disappeared into Dravania trying to end the Dragonsong War? pffff yeah good luck with that Nidhogg's been filling up my inbox for a thou- WAIT WHAT? WHO?? AND THE LEVEILLEUR GRANDSON???

Then for a short bit family matters quiet down, again, maybe. Estinien "Not Not Nidhogg" Wyrmblood passes through Thavnair but moves on to Othard pretty quickly. Ahewann gratefully takes off his running shoes and Vrtra peels himself off the ceiling like a scared cat from worrying which would be worse to meet, Estinien or Nidhogg. Midgardsormr dies again but that's less of a big deal than it should be, he'll sleep it off. Tiamat is suddenly flying again for the first time in five millenia so that's . . . good, the world is ending but that's good at least. Estinien Wyrmblood may or may not have joined the Scions, no one can get a solid confirmation. Anyway he's got to get these scales to the alchemists, the Baldesion reps are coming soon, he can't focus on his own family drama right now-

I like to hc that Fourchenault is Like That™ because Louisoix was not really present in his life. We hear about all the good Louisoix did for Eorzea and how he shook things up in Sharlayan, and how he was a wonderful grandfather, but all we know about his relationship with his son is that they argued before Louisoix left and ultimately died. We don't have anything else between them, but then we have this man who is so devoted to his job (a behavior he might've modeled after his father) who cares deeply for his family but has no idea how to actually express that. You'll see it so often in real life how someone will be cold or even cruel to their children but will be very loving and supportive of their grandchildren, so it's not a stretch to imagine Louisoix this way

Besides, all of ARR goes hard trying to show what a great man he was but I watched those 1.0 msq cutscenes and it was 99% Minfilia's hard work and then Louisoix comes in at the very last minute but gets all the credit and I still haven't forgiven him for it 😂
