Realised I never posted this before I got sick.
I'm reviving my sprout journey comics (as soon as this stomach bug goes away) and while I have a list of moments from the game, feel free to ask my impression or experience with any part of the story and who knows maybe I'll make something out of it (no promises tho).
All my comics are made possible with the support of my patrons

That's a wrap on Febhyurary!
I'm a bit late since I got behind due to life events, but I'm really happy I completed the challenge. I haven't done a gpose challenge like this before, so it was fun working off the prompts and conceptualizing different ideas. I tried to strike a balance between scenes and aesthetic impressions, but I think I definitely leaned more towards scene work in the end. Adding the minifics was delightful, and I had just as much fun writing those as I did making the gposes.
I think I leaned a little more into my Wolcred ship than I intended initially (got Thancred spinning pretty hard around my brain in the back half of February, as you do, so - not surprising!!). I'm really happy with how this series became a snapshot of Aureia's 10 year journey from pre-ARR to post-ENW. I'll be posting these as a series on AO3 in a little bit, reorganized in chronological order.
The whole series can be found here under my febhyurary 2024 tag.
Thanks to @mythandral for sharing eliara_wol's prompt list from twitter!
Some personal favourites:
✦ Day 2: Faith ✦ Day 7: Voice ✦ Day 9: Sun ✦ Day 10: Dragon ✦ Day 13: What If…? ✦ Day 14: Date ✦ Day 16: Secret ✦ Day 19: Memory ✦ Day 20: Primal ✦ Day 21: Season ✦ Day 23: Enemy ✦ Day 27: Journey ✦ Day 28: New Adventure

All right FFXIV Tumblr, I need a little help.
Warning, Dragon-related spoilers spread across the MSQ for pretty much the entire game and all expansions!
My character's main job is Dragoon and I'm decorating my house with a theme surrounding that job, including a lot of Dragon-related stuff. In fact, the location is called "NIDHOPPS", Ishgard's first and only Craft Brewery/Dragonsong War Museum, with such memorabilia as I can find for all the First Brood.
I'm working on the Orchestrion choices. I have 8 slots, and here are my thoughts on how to use them.
1.) "Primogenitor" - The boss music for Midgardsrormr in Keeper of the Lake and in Alphascape 2.0. And now that I take the time to check, also apparently for the first time we fight Nidghogg in the Aery, and the fight with Hraesvelgr in Sohr Khai! Although the rest of these are chronological in terms of in-game appearance, I put this one before the next one to reflect Midgardsormr's place in the family.
2.) "Answers" - The music for the End of an Era cutscene where Bahamut was revealed. There are a few Bahamut-related choices, but this is the most dramatic.
3.) "Roar of the Wyrm" - The theme from the Aery, where we first face Nidhogg directly. This isn't actually what plays during the boss fight though, so its place on the list is most tentative.
4.) "Apologies" - The theme from Sohr Kai, where Hraesvelgr tests our mettle before we face Nidhogg again. Like Roar of the Wyrm, the actual boss fight music is actually Primogenitor though.
5.) "Revenge of the Horde" - From the Final Steps of Faith, Part 1, where we vanquish Nidhogg. This being an Ishgardian residence, I feel like the antagonist of the Dragonsong War deserves extra prominence.
6.) "Freefall" - From the Final Steps of Faith, Part 2.
7.) "Seven Flames" - From Paglth'an, where we fought along Tiamat's side to reach and slay Lunar Bahamut.
8.) "As The Sky Burns" - From Vanaspati. I'm hesitant because I'd rather enshrine Vrtra in glory than grief, but no moment in the game highlights his nature better than when he's begging you to show mercy to the Blasphemies because they're still Children of Thavnair.
Missing - Azdaja and Ratatoskr don't have tracks on this list. The former because all the music that plays around her is more about her circumstances and her captor than about her personally, and the latter because she's a conspicuous absence in the story, and Nidhogg's rage is the primary memento we have of her.
I also thought about putting Shinryu on this list, because I love "The Worm's Tail" and "The Worm's Head" from the Royal Menagerie trial. But I wouldn't have put one on the list unless I had room for both, and as a weird sort of footnote to the First Brood I didn't think Shinryu deserved multiple slots like Nidhogg does.
Anyway, does this sound about right, or does anyone have suggestions of tracks that would fit better, or would make sense for the two missing First Brood? As important as Nidhogg is, 8 tracks for 8 Dragons seems like it's meant to be, you know?

WOL profile: Asel Kha
Tumblr media
Name: Asel Kha
Possible Azem names: Pandora or Charon
Age: 28
Gender: Female [She/Her]
Race: Xaela Aura
Class: Scholar [Main], Summoner, Ninja [Post ARR Patches, at Yugiri's suggestion. Figures it a good backup to her magic], Bard [Post SB. Influenced by time at the Azim Steppe.] and Warrior [Post ShB, In memorial of Ardbert.]/ Omni Crafter and Omni Gatherer. [Hates fishing, but she'll do it.]
Height: 5'2"
Orientation: Disaster Bi-romantic Asexual, leaning towards women. [open to queer-platonic pairings.]
Crushes: Minfilia, Y'shtola, Lyse, Sanson [briefly] and, Mide [also briefly].
Potential Pairings: Y'shtola or Lyse
Potential QPR: Estinien, Y'shtola, and/or G'raha
Idolizes: Y'shtola [Since she first met her in Limsa Lominsa], Cid, and Baderon Tenfingers [She once accidentally called him dad].
Personality: Tends to struggle with reading people, situations, and moods; Asel has a habit of withdrawing into herself if she cannot find what she feels is an appropriate response to a situation. This is rarely helped by her tendency to overthink things. She slowly gets better during her time in Eorzea and The First. In fact, there are points in the later expansion packs where she is too honest. Usually when she's angry.
Adaptable [by necessity] and excitable [despite herself]; Asel will speak more if she's comfortable in either her location or company. This can seem inconsistent as she has memory problems when it comes to names and faces. Has a considerable amount of patience and tries to present a friendly face to those she helps despite her nerves. Asel is easily flustered and doesn't like being the center of attention. Her fame makes her jittery and anxious.
Hobbies: Loves to learn new things. Is usually drawn to folklore, mythology and fairy tales which is probably what influenced her to take up the mantle of bard. She takes to practicing the flute by some point in the SB patches, though only in private. She has stage fright and tends to freeze up.
Asel also loves to travel and explore new places. That being said, she wasn't exactly blessed by the Navigator. The aether compass Haurchefaunt gave her sees a lot of use because of this as it has a compass. Actually enjoys helping others and is unbothered by all the fetch quests she gets sent on. Prefers crafting to fighting, and wishes to make things for her friends. So far shes only gotten to make a hammer for Cid back when she first met him.
Unique animations: Rubs her eyes against her sleeve to prevent people from seeing her crying. Tends to default to crossing her arms across her chest.
Commonly found: The Great Gubal library, as soon as she learns of it. Asel starts making journeys to the Ziggurat when she learns of it's connection to red mage history from her research. She hopes to find more on the history of their weapons.  She spends her spare time in The First either in the Cabinet of Curiosities or volunteering in the Spagyrics, putting her experience from working at her parent's apothecary to good work.
History:
Left home to see the world and continue her studies.
Daughter of two retired adventurers, her parents met when her father treated her mother for an injury that took the sight in one of her eyes. They opened an apothecary sometime between their marriage and the birth of their child. Asel worked there from twelve to when she left home at twenty-eight.
Has wanted to be an adventurer since she was a child. Her parents, determined to make sure she survived should she follow through with this goal, trained her to the best of their abilities in medicine, survival, and magic. She does know how to swim and is one hundred percent willing to help Alphinaud and Urianger should they ever ask. They probably won't
She started studying advanced aetherology around the beginning of Heavensward. At first it was in order to help in finding her fellow Scions. Asel decides to continue said studies once they are found in an attempt to keep up with them. Or at the very least understand what is being said.
Didn't have any real friends growing up, due to her job at the parent's store taking up a lot of her time, and her focus on her studies to become an adventurer. Her parents tried to help with this by having her do delivery work. Which gave her experience with communication and developing a good poker face but did not address the key issue. She now sees the scions as her family and can be a tad overprotective of those she gets close to.

Job Transitions: Archer -> Bard
This will likely be my last post regarding my personal canon for the transition from Aeryn's starter class into her specialized role (unless I decide to tackle some of the AUs I have for her, too). Finishing off with her main: archer/bard! ♥
Spoilers for the ARR and Heavensward bard class quests below.
B A R D
Though they irritate me a lot now, I initially liked the ARR archer quests and do feel they are mostly canon to Aeryn's experience. I like the notion that she learned very little in the way of true, proper form as a result of Leih and Silvairre's constant bickering and had to rely more on a kind of self-guided regimen based on careful observation and Luciane's occasional nuggets of wisdom/guidance. I've mused before on the fact that Aeryn was not a natural-born archer and had to work really, really hard to hone her skills; and the fact that she had no stable mentor for this class and was largely self-taught lends itself to that headcanon.
Aeryn did later meet with Jehantel, as encouraged by Luciane, and she did accept the soulstone from him - but she did not canonically become a bard. Her inability to fully connect with the magic of the Source prevented her from fully attuning to the soulstone, and she could neither hear the songs of bards past nor learn to play her own. She was, however, able to develop certain unique skills from Jehantel's myriad spiritual excursions, and both those skills and his guidance did help her become a stronger natural archer. He was able to guide her form and physical technique in a way that had been lacking in her time under Luciane's guidance. She practiced what he taught her relentlessly.
Eventually, to her very great surprise, she stumbled by fluke upon an an unnatural means of mimicking the power of song, too. But rather than draw from the soulstone, Aeryn found she could instead fuel her bow with something inexplicable that she could sense and manifest from within. It was draining and highly difficult to achieve, at first - and she knew it was not the power Jehantel often sang of. But despite not knowing where the power came from, she managed to utilize it well enough in rare circumstances that Jehantel never seemed to notice her inability to evoke the power of song the way other bards might have. Aeryn suspected it was only Hydaelyn's blessing that enabled her to forge some mockery of a song's magic through her bow, and she spent much of her time training with Jehantel feeling like a fraud, undeserving of his liberal praise.
Nevertheless, she continued her training with him, because something of his self-inflicted suffering spoke to her - he, who had embraced his loneliness after an inconceivable loss, she thought, might actually comprehend the inexplicable loss she constantly felt within over the missing parts of herself she did not know. (Despite this, she never broached the subject with him, and in the end felt only grateful to have had the opportunity to help him work through his own grief.)
When Jehantel later roped her into the quest to help Sanson and Guydelot, Aeryn was apprehensive. Despite her growing prowess with the bow, she still felt like a fraud and feared she would ultimately cause more harm than good in Sanson's venture by falsely representing not only Jehantel but also his art. Yet neither Sanson nor Guydelot said anything about her silence in battle or her lack of song.
Sanson, in fact, could not tell the difference, having so little understanding of what it truly meant to be a bard. Guydelot, however, noticed from the start. He played little melodies and constantly invited Aeryn to join him, curious to know more about this strange non-bard who had garnered Jehantel's great praise. And each time she politely declined, he'd smile a cheshire sort of grin, shrug it off, and go back to poking at Sanson.
It was not until the aftermath of their battle with the siren and her Ballad of Oblivion that the truth emerged, when Mogta innocently asked why Aeryn did not call upon song the way Guydelot did. Aeryn slumped down into the grass, exhausted. She gazed up at the stars. And she told them everything. To her very great surprise, they none of them judged her for it. In fact, Sanson expressed awe that she should be so strong in spite of her limited control of bard magic. And Guydelot revealed to her that he had always known - that he could sense her use of song differed from his own. And then he sat beside her and told her it did not negate her skill with the bow, nor the power of her song.
From that moment on, Aeryn chose to accept herself as a true bard - because they did, and who was she to argue with them?
Though she may never quite understand the how or why of it, Aeryn actually fuels her bardic skills with the remnant star magic that still dwells within her - essentially fueling her bow with her own "aether," in a way, though the limitation of her ability to wield it prevents it from being hazardous to her. The silent "song" she evokes offers powerful bursts of heightened energy for a few short moments, but due to the mental and physical strain that follows, she rarely relies upon the skill except in the most dire of circumstances.
I do intend to write the above scene as fic, once of these days. I love how the bard quests ultimately pull together Aeryn's two canon-main classes in such a lovely way, and I'm a sucker for little found families like what I think she finds with Sanson, Guydelot, and Mogta and their unquestioning acceptance of her, magical limitations and all.
