{The white-haired man rubs his eyes with increasing amounts of frequency as he feels his time alone dwindle lower and lower}

Lu Guang, squinting with a sense of urgency: Come on... just a little further

{He rubs his eyes again, just a little too hard for how delicate they currently are}

{Something crunches and pops}

{At first, Lu Guang doesn't pay it any more then a fleeting acknowledgement. A sign to pull back, maybe, next time. Until liquid, too thick and warm to be tears, drizzles itself down, down, down...}

“Rise.”

The command echoes in her mind in roaring waves, shattering whatever sanity is left within Morana’s fragile mind. She tries to obey, lifting a hand, but what she sees makes her stop as horror settles in deep, seizing her barely beating heart in its grip. Her skin is pale, almost blue in the moonlight, dirt sticks to the flesh that seems to have been ripped apart by claws and teeth. Blood covers the wounds entirely, but it’s not oozing from them, no– it has long since dried up.

Pain sears through Morana’s veins, red and angry, when she craned her neck frantically to see the rest of her body. She feels as if she’s been torn apart and snitched together again and again; she opens her lips to ask for help, to scream, to beg, to plead, but there is a rawness to her throat that prevents her from doing so, and all that leaves her mouth is a wheeze as she gasps for air. Despite her lungs burning hot, Morana doesn’t quit her attempts to understand what happened. Morana feels rather than sees a deep slash across her chest. Spurred by fear, she manages to ignore the agony and looks down. She needs to know, she needs–

She shouldn’t be alive.

Bones protrude from her chest.

She shouldn’t be alive.

Her skin is black and rotten.

She shouldn’t be alive.

Her legs lie at an unnatural angle.

She can’t be alive.
