the reason why im mad af @ ludger:

he gaslit casey, his own best friend, into believing that he was the criminal mastermind.

she learned the truth via memory storming and fully blamed herself / her incompetence for his downfall and his suicidal ideation.

she apologized to him, but he never corrected her on it, enforcing her belief that she was indeed at fault despite knowing fully well that it's not the case.

their brief "reconciliation" and his "forgiveness" towards her mean nothing because despite her efforts to fix their relationship, ludger's suicidal ideation remains throughout the story, and in the end, he even acted upon it. during his absence, casey very likely still has to live on for three years with the belief that she was the one who was responsible for the death of her best friend.

ludger never bothered to fight for his good ending, yet he gets everything.

casey fought with her life for his good ending, and for that, she lost everything, including her only companion.

my thought process here is less about things like that (getting more familiar w a song and getting attached to it then) it’s more like. some of behind why people tend to flock to the ‘talked about’ songs in general

my main thought behind things like this has a lot to do with the process of how people form attitudes (or in regular words. opinions). there’s a lot that goes into it even subconsciously and imo a lot of that lends to things like this - certain songs getting popular/becoming fan favorites/becoming overrated but in this case specifically picking it as a favorite for … seemingly no reason. one big factor here imo is the concept of acquiescence bias, which basically describes how people are more likely to choose something based on what they think others want them to choose (and in that same vein we have social desirability bias which describes how people are more likely to pick what they think is most socially acceptable or desirable) the key with both of those is that it’s making a choice based on what you think others think regardless of what you personally think

so here, thinking about why people choose things, it can boil down to things like that. to bring all too well back into it - maybe they say it’s their favorite bc it’s the Cool Thing to do bc “it wasn’t even a single!!!” and taylor said it’s her favorite. or maybe they say it’s their fav bc they think it’s the Right Thing to say bc it became a whole thing (esp w atwtmv and red tv)

and another big piece imo is when people don’t actually have a strong enough opinion (in psych it’s called a non-attitude) and so in order to come off as informed/with it/cool/insert other adjective here etc they pick an answer they don’t necessarily personally resonate with either and tend to fall back on those biases just bc that’s how group dynamics and the human brain tend to work with each other
