l'manburg language headcanons

okay so i havent sat down and actually created a language for lmanburg but I hc that they have their own language & here are hcs for that language. its a mashup of all the languages that the members speak. i know that a language couldn't really develop in the timeframe so I'm speeding up the development because i want to.

Slang / Phrases

first, it exists withing minecraft, so internet/minecraft lingo and phrases are commonplace (ie: pots, spawn, etc)

l'manburg was born out of conflict, so many phrases and slang are often violent.

because many prolific figures (c!tommy with prime, c!wilbur with being phil's son, c!eret with the herobrine stuff, c!dream with the XD stuff) are heavily religous / associated with religion, religious phrases are also very common.

there are different words for non-canon death, a canon death, and the last canonical death (the one that kills kills you)

Actual Language

l'manburg's language is a mix of british english, french, dutch, spanish, german, latin, and ancient greek. because it is such a new language, some words are the exact same as the English (given that english is the common language) words.

all military/war words have absolutely no english ties (as to provide secrecy). most are a mix of french, latin, and ancient greek (latin and ancient greek comes from c!tommy & c!wilbur, because they were taught by c!techno)

words pertaining nationality, home, or base are a mix of french (l'-), german (-manburg), and dutch (man). Most are french.

words pertaining to money or commerce are dutch & english inspired.

words pertaining to farming are inspired by ancient greek (c!techno again)

words pertaining to government/high authority are often a mix of latin, french, and english (c!wilbur is fucking obsessed with french & latin)

anything related to food is inspired by german and ancient greek.

Context / Timeline

quackity's arrival made spanish inspired words/phrases more abundant.

schlatt made american phrases and spellings very common.

the manburg administration attempted to phase out the language, but was unsuccessful.

new lmanburg caused many more phrases based on death, nature, rot, and renewal.

new lmanburg put a lot of emphasis on philosophical, poetic, descriptive, and physiological words.

words regarding cops, police, and laws are closely tied with negative words such as evil, thief, and traitor.

manburg replaced many religious words and phrases with more neutral alternatives.

the first words created in the new language were military moves and tools.

new lmanburg's descriptive words were often enderian words translated into the latin alphabet (as c!ranboo, the minute man, was the one who used and created them)

lmanburg was often underdeveloped in governmental words pertaining to the running of a country.

hc: c!wilbur, since lmanburg, was always kind of suicidal/depressed, but held on for his family and his country. but after he lost all that he gave up, and that was why he was so acceptant to just die after he blew up lmanburg. (he also thought he would die during the explosion, but he didn’t and had enough time to soak in the depth of what he’d done)

Early SMP: alien boy. he doesn’t know what he’s doing he is simply fucking around and finding out adopting a dog and gathering resources. just living life having a funky fresh time

he and tommyinnit fucking HATE each other they chased each other around and murdered each other for like over and hour fundy broke into his house and stole his shit he bargained with Tommy for his own stuff for like 10 minutes and went to court but just snuck out the back (??? idk he’s wild)

fundy built the socializing club to resolve their arguments and purpled booby trapped it and stole everyone’s shit cause he’s just like that

L’Manberg War(s): he dabbled in lmanberg shit my guy had no idea what the fuck was going on all the god damn time he was so confused bro was literally just standing there one time he say ccrimeboys (who were exiled from lmanberg and were absolutely not supposed to be there) and he (a member of lmanberg) decided to just ignore them cause he can’t be bothered to give a shit he literally allowed Technoblade to causally boat home after he massacred everyone at the festival and murdered Tubbo he has zero fucks to give

✨intermission✨: he disappeared for several months and no one knew what was up with that

the following is not in chronological order cause I forgor

but Bad hired him to kidnap/kill Puffy and he was basically like “yeah sure fuck it” and I think he did the thing?? I don’t remember anyways he was kinda working for the Eggpire for a bit and then Quackity was like hey wanna work for me instead to betray them (he attracted his attention by threatening to blow up his UFO talk about foreshadowing) and purpled once again went yeah sure fuck it and betrayed the Eggpire for the money and Quackity did his whole “wait don’t go in yet let the shark guy die” and then they saved everyone and yadda yadda yadda “you’re a hero purpled” “I try my best”

Aftermath: we all know this part purpled is like okay bitch boy pay up and Quackity makes small talk gives him his money and then destroys his entire life right in front of him good times they yell at each other for a bit and Purpled storms off in silence to go be sad

He goes back to his stupid little cottage and is even sadder for a while and then Mr Charlie Slimecicle gaslights him for 30 minutes and he decides to join las nevadas (he’s lying about wanting to be there)

he hangs around lying to people for a bit and then sets up his overdramatic lava trap and yells at Quackity some more and then kills his bf for revenge cause that’s what they do on this server I fucking guess

he kidnaps slimes dead body and holds it captive in a cave purely just to kill him again and then Punz shows up and manipulates him a bit and Dream is there also

they show up gaslight slime bulky Quackity blow shit up purpled and Quackity yell at each other some more and then slime reveals HE was gaslighting everyone the whole time and fucking kills purpled (L + ratio)

then there’s the whole “you’re not a good person” but idc about that sorry quackcicle enjoyers

and then that’s kinda it man idk the whole ass smp ended

then he fucking died and LIMBO oh my lordy lord he was alone in literal sensory deprivation torture for THIRTEEN AND A HALF YEARS holy motherfuck he lost his fucking mind in there he was not doing well that’s for fucking sure

then his bitch ass got revived and dear god did a lot happen while he was gone and he put on another goddamn persona because he’s fine guys!! he had time to think over everything while he was dead he’s perfectly fine he’s processed all his trauma he’s so much better now he definitely isn’t doing worse he’s fine guys !!! :D (he’s lying)

and one time he tried to explode dream with his mind so that was a thing and also threatened to kill himself despite being apparently happy to be alive again and absolutely fucking terrified of going back to limbo so anyways he still hates himself so that’s a thing

he and Quackity had a homoerotic rivalry and then he went to fucking. Utah so that happened

Heyyy i think during lmanberg they tried to make caramel apples one day. Like prolly ctommy ctubbo and cwilbru. And tubbos got stuck to his face when he tried to bite into it. And chormito was laughing so hard he couldnt help him. cWilbur frantically tried to find a spot to put his apple while he helped tubbo. so he stuck it inside of a beaker they used for potions. And he got tubbos apple unstuck (and tubbo ate it). Wilbur tried pulling his apple out of the beaker but it wouldnt budge. So he said whateva and tubbo asked if he could have it and wilbur said yes. And then tubbo got the beaker with the caramel apple inside of it stuck on his face

I like to think that L'Manburgs citizenships worked kinda like Sealands.

It's the only option I can think of that neatly allows the popular election and the lack of an actual on-site population to coexist.

As in, citizenships were available online and people just got them without ever actually entering L'Manburg. Basically, no citizens of L'Manburg besides those few we see there in the streams have ever set foot in the place.

But since they still had a citizenship, they were all eligible to vote when the election came around, hence the large number of votes in comparison to L'Manburgs population.

Well I can tell one of us didn’t design a fursuit for ourselves before we even knew what a fursuit was.

Manberg is such an interesting pivot point to use for commonly trans characters like. with trans Tubbo he's getting put in suits and facing high constant scrutiny over literally every aspect of his life and separated from Tommy for the first time. With trans Tommy you've got the kid whose making jokes about being a big strong man all the time meet his idol, a slick, loud, powerful businessman, only to watch him hurt everyone around him, desperately shroud his insecurities in hostility and denial, and kill himself. With Fundy you've got him going from being treated like a child to being treated like a politician and his whole entire relationship with Jschlatt.

YOU FUCKING GET ITTTTTTT YEAHHHHH for Tubbo it was like he was in the WORST possible time to be figuring such important things out about himself because he. Wasn’t getting to BE himself very often yk??? Stress of war into stress of being in schlatt’s cabinet into stress of presidency at 16 doesn’t really leave a lot of time for him to just. Sit down and think about who he is yk?

THE TOMMY THING IS SUPER FUCKING INTERESTING HOLY SHIT ive never really thought of it like that ive always been partial to the headcanon that Tommy only really begins figuring themself out post everything post dream dying but GODDD does the idea of her trying to figure herself out while under CONSTANT stress lead to so many good ideas…

ALSO YEAHHHH THE FUNDY AND MANBERG CABINET THING its so good… he was REALLY not given respect during lmanberg but then! Manberg was genuinely respecting him! As an adult and as a person! And like he very clearly carried that into the rest of the SMP (like him keeping schlatt’s sword) so like it was CLEARLY something incredibly important to him yk!!!!!

i have thoughts about height headcanons

cwilbur is very tall, naturally, not as much as some of the otherworldly beings on the server like cranboo or cfoolish, but still in the 2m range (6’6). he’s a very ‘leaning’ guy: he leans in doorways, he slouches over sofas, he drapes himself over chairs. like a cat, his dad used to say. his posture also varies a lot. on one hand, like many other aspects of himself, he’s learned to control it (though not totally) and turn it into a performance when he needs it. so for eg, when he’d give a speech or something in lmanberg, his posture was impeccable. but like the rest of his performances, its exhausting and nowhere from perfect; so the moment people’s gazes were turned away from him, he’d slouch under the pressure and lose a couple inches. in pogtopia he had really bad back problems from constantly hunching over on himself and sleeping (or trying to) curled up in a ball on a hard bed, but he doesnt care nearly enough to make any effort to fix it. in general when he’s feeling insecure in front of other people he’ll use his height to his advantage to try and gain back any semblance of control over the situation. revivebur also does this sometimes so he looks more like his old self, the one people looked up to (metaphorically and physically). he feels like hes playing the part of the old wilbur, and after all he’s a performer who puts his all into his acting, including his posture. when hes with tommy, he does the same- both to keep up his ‘performance’ of the big brother he idolised, and also just to piss tommy off, even slightly. but interestingly, he doesnt do that with quackity. you’d think he’d take every opportunity to loom over his rival, make himself look superior in every way possible, but no. he doesnt slouch, either. he leans towards him. hes so enraptured by their dynamic and their fighting that even his body subconsciously turns towards what is making it feel so alive. he doesnt drop the act, of course not, everything about quackity and him is about façades and masks and playing with them, but his body betrays him. and when quackity snaps back that he never thinks of him at all, his shoulders hunch in before he can stop them. he’s always prided himself on being an actor, in his ability to control himself and his reactions, but his mask slips sometimes, and quackity seems to be the one most often the reason for it.

ctommy is also tall, especially for his age, but not as tall as cctommy. he’s more in the 1m75-1m80 range (5’9-5’10), cause at 17 he hasnt reached his adult height yet. at the start of lmanberg he was like. 1m68 (5’5) and he hit a big growth spurt at the start of season 2. by the end of exile, he’d gained about 10cm but he was so hunched over that you could barely tell. he also has a perpetual slouch, but for the most part, its less one of insecurity like wilbur, and more of a regular teenage slouch. he just cant be bothered about his posture. people tell him he’ll get back problems and he tells them to fuck off (he keeps quiet the fact that he already does. his back aches and so do his hands and his joints when he’s cold and his whole body hurts after revival. but he’s used to it.)

ctubbos short. im talking, 1m55-1m60 (5’1-5’2). and he does not give a shit. he’s felt powerless at times in his life, but it was never because of his height- it was his age, his lack of defenses, his situation. but he grew up with tommy who was always at least a head or two taller than him, so he has no problem whatsoever standing his ground in conversations with people sometimes several feet taller than him. when he and tommy were kids, they lived off scraps of food they stole from farms or markets; tubbo would always be the one they sent in to grab a loaf of bread from under the baker’s eyes, because he was so small with big hazel eyes that people naturally trusted him (more than tommy, who despite his similarly big blue eyes, already looked like a little shit). in snowchester he built a little wood ladder that he says is to switch the lightbulbs, but he mainly uses it to reach up and fluff up ranboos hair to piss him off.

cquackity is also short, though less (1m68 - 5’6) but unlike tubbo, it bothers him. not every day, but sometimes it leaves a sour taste in his mouth and a twist in his guts when people loom over him. it reminds him too much of that part of his life he doesnt like to think about, where he felt utterly powerless, where his body was source of constant jests and mocking remarks, where a figure with horns perpetually loomed over him, with a hand gripping his waist. he tells himself he’s over it, he doesn’t give a shit about schlatt or his words anymore, but he still gets antsy when someone has that kind of physical superiority over him. he hates not being in control, being made to feel lesser than, and height, while superficial and inconsequential to some, is one of those things he’ll never be able to control. with wilbur, he can’t help but notice the difference. when they’re arguing, he feels exasperation, fury, amusement, disdain (excitement), but never anxiety. for all his threats and big talk, wilbur doesnt loom over him like schlatt did. doesnt use that against him - though he perfectly could, its not like they’re above low blows like that. but he never does, like he somehow knows, and quackity tries very hard not to think about that.

cranboo is 7 feet tall and wears demonias.

I do have a certain attachment to qTubbo being drawn with horns or kinda goat-like (for obvious vintage lmanberg reasons)

But him taking on cat-like qualities due to headcanons of him being Cellbit's lil brother FUCKING SLAPS

So what are ur hair headcanons then? 👀

i already draw it mostly (even made a ctommy hair timeline :P)

but basically both have natural hair color (ctu natural brunette and cto natural blonde). during pre dsmp ctu had messy outgrown hair because he never learned to cut it in 2b2t, while cto was mostly shaved head because labkid

during early dsmp to lmanburg they had regular haircuts, ctu usually being slightly longer than cto's

during pogtopia neither of them had time to cut their hairs, so it just slowly grew out beyond their usual

entering new lmanberg, ctu would regularly cut his hair to a length, sometimes he'd randomly cut it in very small amounts just for a distraction. in exile cto's hair grew out to his shoulder, as he never cut it during that time

when cto was with ctechno, he had a bit of his hair in a braid

doomsday caused cto to unbraid that part. and in the finale neither ctu or cto changed their hairs

during the very small hotel time interval cto wore his hair in a high ponytail

ctu started to let his hair grow out and took less care of it, sometimes just using hairbands or hairclips to get them out of the way

sometime after his death cto started wearing his hair in pigtails.

after cranboo died ctu had flowers in his hair, maybe from ghostboo? it was a messy kind of flowers in his hair. one of the flowers tied a part of his hair

post dsmp cto switches between a ponytail and a pair of pigtails, no longer cuts his hair except for his bangs. and ctu only uses one flower in his hair, and cut his bangs a bit

mostly some fucked up shit from lmanberg and new lmanberg. learned that well maybe my headcanons about ctubbo are not headcanons and just my life.

just a quick sketch to get my ideas down but I’m actually quite happy with it

more stuff under the cut cause I’m insane about him

-he wears lots of layers cause he hates being even a little cold (Pogtopia + Limbo)

-the coat is weighted cause it’s comforting

-he wears the red tinted glasses cause even sunlight is overwhelming after so long in the dark (mostly limbo but also Pogtopia)

-he has the red stitches everywhere from his revival, and he got more injuries than just the stab wound from Phil (I can go on and on about this but that’s a post for another time)

-he has the fingerless gloves to cover bandages and scars, and they’re fingerless for convenience

-the cut on his shoulder happened during limbo, and as such won’t heal

additional stuff that’s not written in the drawing!

-he has touch related trauma, he wants physical contact but cannot stand being touched especially if it’s not on his own terms

-he mentioned feeling numb after his revival canonically, and that feeling never went away, he still has a lot of the self-destructive behaviors he had during early lmanberg cause he can’t really feel it and he’s bad at taking care of himself in general (self hate babyyyyy *sobs*)

-this is canon but he hates going underground

-he fidgets with his hands/sleeves/sometimes his little head wings when he’s nervous or overwhelmed

one of my fav general headcanons for dsmp is that the first like war between the smp and lmanberg spanned over a few years. like it wasnt just a short thing. and that tommy was in exile for longer, tubbo was president longer and pogtopia existed for a year or so

Also I have a headcanon about prison arc and the revival process itself. I think, the revival process and the speed rate of it depends on do or do not the person wanted to be revived. So, c!Will, who was mad already and really wanted to be revived ended with being alive in the decaying body, while c!Tommy with his uprising suicidal/depressed tendencies was revived wery fast but for a long time he didn't getting conscious and his "it was dark" was not only about his limbo but about this state when he can't awake too.

And I think c!Dream who was really peopley person since the beginning but ended with it after the lmanberg arc, feels strong lack of touch and acceptance so while Tommy was unconscious he holds him in his arms, but it makes him feel more pain than admiration due to their complex bonds.
