Ever since I saw the last @linked-maze Siblings page I had the saying “the road to hell is paved in good intentions” repeating over and over in my head and made this. Anyways, I’m going to continue to rotate Djævel around in my mind now eternally

The Twili brothers Angel and Djævel (Devil) from @linked-maze! It's guess easier to do a sexy pose if you have a closthes to do a strip tease with. Or something.
I decided to experiment with pointilism and using only fineliner pens. I won't be doing pointilism anytime soon again though, I don't have the patience for it lmao, but I'm happy of the results!
Edited to add alt-text.

How to Stub the Attitude Monger.
The spirit of KALAGA Stub the Monger Attitude Mongering is predominantly a past time these days with social media giving room for one to hype up one’s self image compromising on mutual respect to people. One of the most common instances of attitude Mongering is with watsap conversations. A person reads the message, but does not respond thereby making the nuances seem like a message virtually…

Shes the C&HR's mallet, designed by Gresley himself.
I can't find the original lore post, so heres her lore
By the 1930s, the Chester and Holyhead mainline from Holyhead to Krestaen was overloaded. The railway's faithful class 5 2-8-0s rantheir goods trains as fast as was safe, but still struggled to keep up. Longer trains were not an option, as the existing trains already filled the passing sidings with mere feet to spare. The sidings could not be expanded without digging into cliffs along the line, which would risk landslides.Another route was needed. The existing mainline crossed the water at Holyhead onto Gwylan Island at Castell Hafan, then turned Northwest, climbing though farmland, plains, and forests in the heart of the Island before reaching the mountains. From there it climbed up the Llyn Pass to the capital, Krestaen. It was the clearest and best path to the city, but the path was narrow for long stretches in many places, taken up by the river Glaw. However, another line of the C&HR already came within 20 miles of the valley that held the capital city. A line ran North from Castell Hafan along the coast to the North Western port of Llanw.A path already existed between Krestaen and Llanw, and it would take minimal work to prepare it for track. Why then had the cities not already been connected then? Diawl's Bryn. The Devil's Hill. Climbing North, Northeast from the valley, the grade wound its way between the mountains with an average grade of 1 in 45 or 2.22%, in some places reaching 1 in 35 or 2.86% for short distances. For six grueling miles, the line climbed the mountain pass, before descending the 1 in 90 grade to Llanw. From there it was mostly flat running to Castell Haffan. It wasn't the steepest grade in Wales, nor the longest, but the combination was too great for the railway's existing fleet. The C&HR turned to May Traction and Railworks for an engine that could conquer the grade. A freight engine capable of making the run from Krestaen through the pass to Castell Haffan unaided. MTRW was forced to turn away the order, as such a monster was beyond their ability to manufacture. Next the C&HR turned to their mainland neighbor, the London, Midland, and Scotland Railway. The two railways had maintained a polite if distant working relationship since grouping, the the LMS running trains on the C&HR as far as Holyhead, and the C&HR running am express to London on LMS metals The LMS sent their number 4997, a 2-6-0+0-6-2 Garratt, for trials. While the engine certainly possessed the power required, the classes Achilles heel soon made itself known. The axle box design on the garratts was prone to hotboxes above 15 mph, far below the C&HR's running speed. Nonetheless, 4997 was purchased from the LMS to serve as banker until a suitable engine could be found. Several months later, a member of the C&HR board witnessed LNER U1 No.2396 banking at the Worsborough Incline . a 2-8-0+0-8-2, the U1 was the most powerful engine in Britain up to that point, and her frames were based on the LNER O4, the class the C&HR named the Class 5. The C&HR approached the LNER and its CME, Sir Nigel Gresley with their problem. The mention of the LMS's loan of 4997, and the subsequent chance to out-perform their rival, saw the LNER board order Gresley to design an engine capable of the task. Gresley spent a week watching the trains working Diawl's Bryn, before approaching the C&HR with his proposal. Rather than a Garratt like 2396, he wanted to design a simple mallet like those used in the United States. Whether Gresley truly believed a simple articulated was better suited for the C&HR than a garratt design, or if he simply wanted the chance to design such an engine is unknown; in either case, the C&HR approved the proposal. In Autumn 1933, Gresley presented the finalized design; a massive 2-6-6-4 locomotive which he dubbed the KM1.
Beyer Peacock was contracted to build the engine, and in early 1934, the KM1 left the works. With 6 cylinders and 76,000lbs of Tractive effort, she was the most powerful locomotive in Britain. She emerged in LNER Apple Green, shining in the morning light. The C&HR board, present to witness the unveiling of the engine, held a vote, and unanimously voted to name her Behemoth. Too large to travel by rail, she was delivered by sea to the harbor at Castell Haffan. Hundreds gathered to see the beast lowered onto the metals, even cold and with her fire unlit, she was an imposing presence. Two class 5 2-8-0s pulled her to Krestaen, where her fire was lit.A pair of American turntables had been purchased and installed at Krestaen and Castall Hafan in anticipation of her arrival, allowing her to be easily turned for the run to Castell Hafan. A line of 50 slate laden wagons waited as the engine backed down for her trail run, a pair of class 5's uncoupled at the back to bank the train in case of issues with the new engine. This would prove unnecessary. Behemoth charged the grade with a whistle, as was tradition on the C&HR, she was fitted with an American hooter whistle, and the echo thundered over the hills.the train had reached 30 mph when it reached the base, and the drivers of the two 2-8-0s eased their regulators, expecting the train to slow. To their shock, the train began to pull away from them, as Behemoth accelerated up the incline. They quickly caught back up, but kept having to increase the regulator as the monster at the front surged up the rails with a will. By the crest, Behemoth had broken 50mph, and the two bankers were left behind as she began the descent. Extra guard vans had been added to serve as extra braking power, but the C&HR had entrusted the 2-6-6-4 to a veteran engineer, and she skillfully kept the train in check. Behemoth would arrive in Castell Haffan ten minutes early to the cheers of the island's railfans. An order for a second engine was placed within the week, and Behemoth was soon joined by her sister Leviathan. Her arrival allowed 4997 to be sent to Beyer Peacock for a rebuild, emerging with new axleboxes, allowing her to join the two sisters on the run. By the advent of the second world war, the three engines were beginning to strain, so a third sister, Goliath, would be delivered in 1940. After the war, the facilities of MTRW would be expanded, and the C&HR would take delivery of a new Garratt design. Despite this, the three sisters would remain in service, keeping pace with the younger engines with ease.

'72 part II in detail, part 1. My overall feelings are still "hmmm", but now they are "hmmm" backed with line-by-line film analysis. I'd emphasize that this adaptation accomplishes a lot that's interesting and fresh, and you can dig in to it critically in a way that would collapse a film like '52 or '98. Ultimately it fails for me as a whole, but not without me being glad to have the pieces in hand that are good.
Julien Verdier plays the best Mabeuf, which—well—just because the competition isn't brisk doesn't mean you didn't win it, right? We open part II with a little speech of his that if I'm not mistaken (correct me if I'm wrong!) does not come from the Brick, but is a bit of freewheeling on the adaptation's part. Given the placement, it seems significant, and the temptation to boil it down into some straightforward political sentiment is strong, given the series' overall sense of politicalness. Eventually this man's degradation (his priceless books being made cheap by the necessity of their sale to literal goods) makes him a revolutionary of sorts, if a very wobbly and incoherent one—some counterpoint, a complication, maybe, to the fact that poverty in this story otherwise leads to crime? Not sure.
Thénardier continues to have far more status in '72 than in the Brick or other adaptations. The musical master of the house wishes. You see, the narrator takes us on a breakneck adaptation of III.VII: we open with III.VII.I "Il y a sous la construction sociale, cette merveille compliquée d'une masure—" and skip mid-breath to III.VII.II "—et il y aura, tant que l'ignorance ne sera pas dissipée, la grande caverne du mal," it is a charge through a very dense section of novel, and these are as far as I can be fucked to pick out all direct quotes until we get to the very end: "Avoir faim, avoir soif, c'est le point de départ; être—" Well, in the novel, Satan. In '72? "—Thénardier, c'est l'arrivée." The camera zooms in on Alain Mottet's best quivery stare; his beard is very bad. I am of several minds: on the one hand, if you don't know the original sentence culminates in Satan, you wouldn't think it's odd to find Thénardier, and it's perfectly possible the script writer was only thinking, I've got these badass lines but I really need my tv series to be a little more concrete than Hugolian, and Alain Mottet is more concrete than the Father of Lies. On the other hand: perhaps they're saying that the original text sees the outcome of all this to be the Catholic concept that is Satan, but they see it to be the concrete harmful/harmed individual human. Or, on a foot: '72 Thénardier is the fucking Devil. Whatever the case may be, in the Brick Thénardier does not even appear in III.VII—Hugo is talking about Patron Minette, and he's not a member. Given Thénardier's importance to this series, I don't mind this change at all.
After this really significant and interesting alteration to its source text '72 proceeds to decide Brujon is now a fifth main player in PM. lol, ok.
Nicole Jamet looks stoned off her gourd this entire series, with an expressive range from numbly dull to a ghastly blank smile. I hunted down clips of her in La piovra to see if this is her acting style overall, and while she's a little flat there as well, it's more in the line of being afraid to show a wrinkle and less whatever's happening in Les Misérables. Since it's paired with Georges Géret's Valiumjean I derive this is a directorial choice. It's our luck she only appears in, generously, 20 minutes of part II. I don't think I've ever wanted less Cosette in a LM adaptation, but she's such an unpleasant take on the character that I'd rather simply not.
I re-read IV.V.VI to see whether my harsh judgment of Nicole Jamet's performance in this scene was unfair—maybe Hugo also described Cosette as baked, I've been wrong before, and I won't blame an adaptation for fidelity. But, nah. Jamet more or less stands and stares, a little head shake here, a little lips parting there. In the novel, while we aren't given as much of Cosette's interiority as Marius' (thanks, Hugo) and we don't hear her voice at all as much (THANKS, Hugo), we see her first caught between two impulses: "Cosette, though ready to swoon, uttered no cry. She retreated slowly, for she felt herself attracted." and then a point of drama, "And she sank down as though on the point of death." I'm not saying you have to be howling and flailing your way through it, but c'mon, there's life to be found in this moment, and Jamet is a stiff. There is the issue that Marius monologues and we have zero idea in the novel of Cosette's actions during this time—a challenge, yes; one the film doesn't meet.
Now I'm being a petty bitch, but I don't like that they changed the exchange from "Vous m'aimez donc?" "Tais-toi! tu le sais!" to "Et vous, est-ce que vous m'aimez?" "Je t'aime." Please, let someone tell Marius "tais-toi". (To be clear, I think it unfair to expect an adaptation to completely follow the source text. but. y'know. If you're going to have this many direct quotes, maybe don't put in bland substitutions where your deeply invested viewership will notice them.)
Great adaptation of Gavroche and the mômes in this. The whole exchange around "monsieur, pourquoi vous avez pas un chat?" "j'en avais un, mais les souris l'ont mangé" kills me, it hits the pitch perfectly of the combined humor and horror of the situation.
In continued "Thénardier is the main character of '72" news, the scene in which he's saved from the top of the wall takes about four minutes—about a minute and a half more screentime than Marius and Cosette's first love confession. Not to get into the nitty-gritty of what this series cares about, or anything.
By the by, Claquesous rather than Montparnasse comes to fetch Gavroche, a small change that I suppose is irrelevant overall when the series doesn't have the time to draw the Montparnasse-as-future-Gavroche connection anyway, but which falls into this pattern '72 has of odd small alterations to Patron Minette.
Hermine Karagheuz's performance is uneven overall, in my opinion, but I could watch on a loop as she replies to Thénardier's "Faut bien qu'on vive, tout de même" with a raspy "Crevez". Having driven off the would-be thieves, she takes a few shuddering breaths, she collapses back against the gates with a gagging exhalation, she looks like she's going to be sick. Is it dramatic? Hell, yes. I'm into it.
We cut to Jamet, who cannot even fake weep.
I feel awkward that I've got nothing meaningful to say as we swing into revolution mode even though this is an essential pivot point in the series. Shrug emoji.
I have a very bad ear for French but one of the terms I can pick out reliably is now "mouchard". Thanks, Javert. I got nothin' deep to say still as he is uncovered at the barricade, but I did laugh when the revolutionaries steal his hat in the process of searching him. Did they think he was hiding something up there? Better check in his whiskers next.
This adaptation really suffers from the lack of Le Cabuc.
On my initial watch of this series the poetry recital wrecked my shit, here we have one man say "Do you remember our sweet life, when we were so young, we two, and we had in our hearts no other desire than to be well-dressed, and to be in love," another responds "We... We lived hidden away"———the combination of the stutter and the furtiveness, y'all, I did a double take, I knew fandom would've alerted me if there was explicit homosexuality in this, and still I had a moment when I thought I saw the ripples in a waving rainbow flag.
They pull directly from Hugo's aside about civil war in IV.XIII.III for Enjolras' speech—I'm not sure how often '72 actually puts narration into characters' mouths rather than into the narrator's, now that I think about it (would have to re-rewatch which isn't going to happen anytime soon). This is interesting to me; we have here a character who makes several speeches, all pertinent to the politics of revolution, and yet instead the show decides to have him recite—a passage which occurs in the inglorious context of Marius justifying to himself that he is fine to shed French blood when his father shed that of foreigners.
I'll come back for the final thirty minutes another time—that's enough for now.

LES MIS LETTERS IN ADAPTATION - In Which The Reader Will Peruse Two Verses, Which are of the Devil's Composition, Possibly, LM 2.2.2 (I miserabili 1964)
There exists in the region of Montfermeil a very ancient superstition, which is all the more curious and all the more precious, because a popular superstition in the vicinity of Paris is like an aloe in Siberia. We are among those who respect everything which is in the nature of a rare plant. Here, then, is the superstition of Montfermeil: it is thought that the devil, from time immemorial, has selected the forest as a hiding-place for his treasures. Goodwives affirm that it is no rarity to encounter at nightfall, in secluded nooks of the forest, a black man with the air of a carter or a wood-chopper, wearing wooden shoes, clad in trousers and a blouse of linen, and recognizable by the fact, that, instead of a cap or hat, he has two immense horns on his head. This ought, in fact, to render him recognizable. This man is habitually engaged in digging a hole. There are three ways of profiting by such an encounter. The first is to approach the man and speak to him. Then it is seen that the man is simply a peasant, that he appears black because it is nightfall; that he is not digging any hole whatever, but is cutting grass for his cows, and that what had been taken for horns is nothing but a dung-fork which he is carrying on his back, and whose teeth, thanks to the perspective of evening, seemed to spring from his head. The man returns home and dies within the week. The second way is to watch him, to wait until he has dug his hole, until he has filled it and has gone away; then to run with great speed to the trench, to open it once more and to seize the “treasure” which the black man has necessarily placed there. In this case one dies within the month. Finally, the last method is not to speak to the black man, not to look at him, and to flee at the best speed of one’s legs. One then dies within the year.

The most recent episode of LM was chock full of artwork, and I'm here to share it with you! Make sure to watch the episode first though.

For a new ally, the Good Doctor sure doesn't show good faith... Sending the party directly to the South Pole as his first action. That being said, he shares his ability with Milli through a data transfer, despite it being a bit soured by the tricks.
In the South Pole Ice Core Labs, the party meets Oblivious... who is not at all what they expected.

Alongside the lord regent, she has a trustworthy cast of "friends", showing where the frostbitten came from. They're all her plush creations, twisted by the hand that binds her.

Here are two cameo appearances, Meephen's Hank, and Parker's John Lennon. Both of which have been fun in-jokes for a while, glad to finally show the way I was able to integrate them into this otherwise quite serious game ^-^

Oblivious's friends, a bunch of plushies that she created for the devil to make "perfect" forms to house the frostbitten. All of them were rejected.

Do you have recommendations similar to to my star 2 or love mechanics in term of angst? i like angst within the relationship but also angst that comes with a little toxicity (like lm)
BL Recommendations with Toxicity and/or Angst:
Hello Anon, thanks for this ask! 😊 I went through my list of all the BL and BL adjacent shows I've watched and these are the ones I've pulled out. I'll just list them here, and then discuss each one below the cut.
Higher Angst and Toxicity:
War of Y: War of Managers
War of Y: Next Ship
Lan Yu
Lovely Writer
Fahlanruk
The Devil Judge
Kinnporsche
Seems to have High Angst and/or Toxicity, (but I've only watched the beginning):
Word of Honor
Tharntype
Lower Angst and Toxicity:
Utsukushii Kare (My Beautiful Man)
Theory of Love
Why R U? (the FighterTutor cut)
Not Me
Semantic Error
High Angst but Low Toxicity
Guardian
Untamed
I Told Sunset About You
I Promised You the Moon
Where Your Eyes Linger
Once Again
The Eclipse
(I made a section for Toxicity with No Angst, but there was nothing in it)
You've probably seen at least some of these, but I'll write about them as if you haven't. I haven't posted about everything, but I tagged them all so you can search my blog to see what I have written. Most but not all of these have happy endings - feel free to ask for specifics. Or if you have any other questions about any of these shows!
War of Y: War of Managers Very toxic. Probably not actually a BL ( I still haven't seen the last episode.) I would have found it angsty if I cared about the characters more. I don't really recommend it, except as an object of bizarre fascination, or if you like extreme melodrama.
War of Y: Next Ship A much more coherent story, though still flawed. Higher angst, less toxic but still quite toxic. Like Love Mechanics they have amazing chemistry. Recommend if you're in the mood for dramatics.
Lan Yu (藍宇) A 2001 Chinese queer film, very difficult to find, but I highly recommend it to those who can handle the angst. I'll link the one secret YT version I found in a reblog. Very high angst (ask again if you want spoilers). Unhealthy relationship dynamics. I suppose it's toxic, except that I think of that word applying to shows with a more pulpy tone, so I wouldn't have called it that.
Lovely Writer Confession: I still haven't finished this one, I disliked Sib too much. Comedic in many ways, but with strong through-lines of angst and toxicity. Others probably found it less toxic than I did. Many people list it as a favorite, and I can see why.
Fahlanruk It's still mid series, but already lots of toxicity and from the trailer I'm predicting at least some angst. It's not good, but I've been enjoying it as a trash watch. Everyone here loves to hate on Fah.
The Devil Judge Not a BL. I loved it. I really liked the experience of watching it totally naive so I won't say more, but ask if you want more specifics.
Kinnporsche I'm sure you at least know about this even if you haven't seen it. Toxic and comedic and angsty in turns. I'm glad I watched it.
Word of Honor I've only watched a few episodes, but seems at the very least angsty and has the potential for being toxic. Looks very good, many people love it, I just didn't have the patience for complicated sect politics at the time.
Tharntype Too toxic for me, I noped out in the first episode. I get the impression there's angst, but couldn't tell you for sure.
Utsukushii Kare (My Beautiful Man) It didn't actually feel toxic to me, but it might hit some of those same toxicity buttons. Kinky boys falling in love and fumbling painfully through figuring out their kinks together. Medium angst, I would say. I loved it, highly recommend.
Theory of Love I adore many things about this and hate others. The beginning is rough - high angst and toxicity, plus moments of frat boy style comedy, and it's hard to root for the couple. Most of the second half I thought was amazing and the painful set-up pays off. My biggest irritation was with the use of misogyny in many of the "comedic" scenes, plus a few other flaws I won't get into here. I feel like reactions are so personal to this one, but I would recommend at least checking it out.
Why R U? (the FighterTutor cut) I wouldn't call it high in either angst or toxicity, but they're definitely there. Their chemistry is insane. Riveting. I fast forwarded through everything that wasn't related to Tutor and Fighter, which works as standalone story, so that's an option if like me you find all the other characters annoying. Recommended.
Not Me I feel like whenever I try to write anything about Not Me I don't know how to start. I definitely recommend watching it. There's angst and toxicity but they're not always related to the romances. Ask if you have more questions about it and I can come up with more specifics.
Semantic Error The lowest in either angst or toxicity on this list, it's mostly sweet. Toxicity depends I think on how much the bullying bothers you (it didn't bother me). Angst is the typical romance angst as characters are finding their way to each other. I highly recommend it in general though.
Angst but Low Toxicity:
Guardian Censored Chinese BL. Very high angst. The romance is amazing. The rest of the plot is kind of nonsense but fun (the show suffered from censorship on several fronts and a sudden huge budget cut halfway through preproduction.) I loved it. Amazing acting. Recommended, if you can tolerate censorship.
The Untamed Also censored Chinese BL. High angst - some as part of the romance, but mostly about other things. A much more coherent plot than Guardian. I loved it. And it's partly what got me into watching BL. Recommended, if you can tolerate censorship.
I Told Sunset About You (ITSAY) A queer romance and coming of age story. I loved it. Delicate angst, gorgeous cinematography (same DP as KinnPorsche, which is how I found it in the first place), really well acted. Highly recommend.
I Promised You the Moon (IPYTM) Sequel to ITSAY. I liked it a lot, many hated it. Not really a BL, more like a continuing of the ITSAY characters growing up. Lots of angst, but of a different tenor. Some might consider it toxic, but it didn't feel that way to me. It had some flaws for me, but I'm really glad I watched it. (Definitely a sequel, would probably not work on its own. Or even if it does, it's worth watching ITSAY first.)
Where Your Eyes Linger Hwang Da-seul's first BL, so you've probably seen this one at least. It's the least skillful of her work - you can really see how she's grown, but I still liked it a lot for its moody vibe. Angst from pining and from external constraints on the relationship. Recommend
Once Again Short Korean BL that just finished. Very high angst, but also many moments of humor and fluff. I can give more spoilers if you want. Very well acted. Many people loved it. I liked it a lot, but not quite as much as I wanted to. Recommend.
The Eclipse What can I say about The Eclipse? I'm sure you at least have heard of it even if you're not watching. I adore it. Plenty of angst, along with plenty of other stuff. I suppose it could fumble at the end, but so far I highly recommend it.
