God. I love s2 Amity, don’t get me wrong, but. S1a Amity’s vibes are just sooooo fucking iconic. This girl hasn’t had more than four hours of sleep in three years. She won’t call you out for cheating in the classroom but she will jump on top of the lunch table to catch you in the act. She is constantly surrounded by people but she has no friends. She dislikes her siblings and they genuinely loathe her in return. She has a mental breakdown after accidentally cheating in a competition. Her slowly worsening crush on Luz is one of the best-written growing-in-the-background crushes of all time. She is one of the most talented witches in her class but she’s also not talented enough to be in a class other than Abominations 101. She is the funniest character in the show.

just out of curiosity – why do you like sukugo??

i've just never seen any of the accounts i follow/my mutuals celebrate this pairing so i'm really curious!

:))))))))) i smiled so wide getting this ask anon. PLS DON’T BE ALARMED just take my hand and let me tell you abt two deeply violent homoerotic men….

okay so when it comes to sukugo i just. ADORE their dynamic and relationship. it’s one of my favorites in the entire manga and i truly think akutami COOKED with it . not only the shinjuku fight itself (which is, ofc, what sold me on the ship) but also the foreshadowing beforehand!!! like sukuna telling gojo that he’ll be the first one he kills…. the two of them making the same kind of pose in their respective volume covers (vol. 4 & 14….. another parallel which is even more devastating when you remember that the number four is associated with death in japan)….. both of them being referred to as ”the strongest.”

i actually didn’t pick up on a lot of it until we got to shinjuku!! but i just think akutami teased at their importance to each other so well and so early on.

WITH THAT BEING SAID . their dynamic. their parallels. yes. they’re both the strongest and the most isolated and those two things are synonymous. it ties into one of the most central themes of jjk that equates absolute strenght to absolute solitude — it’s a kind of curse. a curse and a blessing. and they both have it.

the main difference is that gojo knows what it’s like to be understood and loved — but sukuna doesn’t. so he can’t feel lonely. he’s never known what it’s like to not be alone. but gojo has!!! gojo has felt love and felt what it’s like to be understood, and when geto died a part of him died too. he’ll always be lonely. he’s the loneliest character in the series. and when he looks at sukuna he sees the exact same isolation that’s plagued him since the moment he was born. so what does he do about it?

he tries to teach sukuna about love.

^ and THAT’S . the most delicious dynamic ever. i take no criticism. i’ll die on the hill that this concept and their dynamic is one of the absolute highlights of jjk. it’s so GOOD. it’s so insanely good. gojo wants to teach sukuna about love/cure him from his solitude by killing him. and vice versa. it’s inherently violent and inherently tender and it makes me INSANE. to me that’s the greatest appeal of sukugo!!!! violence as tenderness is a trope very near and dear to my heart (and also VERY frequently associated w queer subtext in media…. just putting that out there……) and they do it so good. they have a blast killing each other.

also i just NEED to say how much i love the ”teach you about love” line. it’s one of my favorites in the manga and akutami utilizes it so well!! he repeats it over and over as foreshadowing and to build up the sukugo dynamic. the final reveal that gojo is ”the one who will teach [sukuna] about love” made me weep (even though it was so obvious)…. it’s just so deeply. idk. it just says so much about gojo as a character :(( the fact that he wanted to teach sukuna about love. i’ve seen some people who think that part is ooc but i disagree completely!! gojo has never concerned himself w the morals of others. not really. toji kills riko but gojo still has a respect for him and allows him to say his final words. he never hated geto despite his crimes. he supports yuji fully no matter how many people die because of him. etcetc. same with all his students.

gojo looks at sukuna and sees someone who is just as alone as he is. so deeply, deeply alone. him wanting to change that is not ooc in the slighest because that’s quite literally what drives gojo as a character:

he’s just such a genuinely good person at his core. and it coexists with the way he sometimes disregards morality. this is a hot take but i genuinely think gojo’s character blossomed fully in his battle with sukuna….. i don’t see him as ooc in it at all. he genuinely wanted to reach sukuna!! he knew he was the only one who could even hope to do so. and he tried his best.

and, i would argue that he succeeded.

SEGWAY TIMEEEEEEEEE LET’S GO. okay so let’s talk abt one of my favorite panels in the jjk manga, the panel that solidified sukugo as one of my favorite pairings Of All Time:

THIS. wow. wow. wow. i could talk abt this panel alone for hours and hours but i’ll try to be coherent……

there’s just? so much meaning to be found here??? for both of them????? not only is it a fundamental moment for gojo — being praised and acknowledged and accepted as himself rather than the strongest — but it’s also proof that gojo did reach sukuna!!! he’ll remember him forever. sukuna will never fully be entirely isolated because even millenia into the future he’ll still remember gojo. gojo nestled his way into sukuna’s heart.

and that’s just . so romantic isn’t it???? so beautiful???????? this is the culmination of gojo’s efforts; the most genuine expression we’ve ever seen on sukuna’s face. he actually looks happy.

i cried seeing that panel btw 😭😭 not a joke!! i was already crying when i started chapter 236 bc i knew how it’d end but this panel (+ the one w geto cheering gojo on in his cult leader fit) made me SOB. not exaggerating. i’ve never cried so much reading a manga… T_T

so!!!! yeah. i just love sukugo. their dynamic is so interesting and beautiful and i can never get enough of it. sometimes i love it more than stsg… don’t tell geto that though……..

sokka’s treatment in lok was astonishing tbh but i’m actually glad he was dead by the time the series started bc toph being a cop??? aang being an awful dad???? they would’ve ruined him and suki’s characters lbr.

as far as any possible kids go idk we didn’t meet suyin till book 4 we barely saw izumi i think they just didn’t want to make the new series be a atla reunion plus lok was only meant to be one season so they were making that shit up as they went along lmao. and back in 2012-14?? they didn’t know themselves what happened to sukka lmao.

sokka and suki are definitely the type to break up bc of long distance but then find their way back to each other a few years later especially as they settle into their roles in life.

while bryke definitely neglect suki and sokka to some capacity also they do have a soft spot for suki after bringing her back. many don’t consider her to be team avatar but they’ve stated they do so idk ! she shows up a lot in the comics which have obv been created post-lok and it’s been said that they’ll utilise it’s plots and characters in shall see in future projects (crane fish town becoming republic city maybe??? where suki currently is working?? and sokka later lives!!)

i’m p sure suki will be in it at some capacity anyway and that there’ll stick with jennie as she’s one of the few asian og va’s. she’s doing a lot of work atm for avatar studios.

also random but i literally found out today that it’s not bryke-confirmed that mai and zuko end up together. it was a comment on a panel by the old comic writer. it’s not technically canon. izumi is the spit of mai anyway but hmm! interesting!!

btw btw suyin’s father was def a sandbending outlaw who toph had a secret relationship with that couldn’t be public bc of her role as police chief x

oo big ask ok let me break this up into different paragraphs …

fist point - one thing i will admit about lok is that it fell short in incorporating the original characters into the new series in an interesting way with enough verisimilitude (realistic-ness) that it didn’t feel like they were just throwing a popular character into an episode for the sake of it. such as the whole ‘aang is a bad dad’ thing because they under-utilised him as a mentor figure to korra and instead focused on his supposed favourite son (i have thoughts on this re. aang NOT being a ‘Bad’ dad but i will make another post on it if u are interested (or have i alr made one? i’ll make another one.))

i have to agree that they would’ve probably done something shitty to sokka or suki if they were included. especially with the entire first season of lok being about bender/non-bender equality… i can just imagine they’d make sokka say something dumb about the equalist movement being 100% Bad instead of him actually supporting some of their completely valid arguments. idk. i’m sad there’s no sukka but at the same time…. quit while ur ahead yk.

second point - sukka long distance relationship is so real ESPECIALLY during their first few years together. i can see them just kinda calling it off because of commitment issues due to their work, etc. but not ever really losing feelings. they’d be endgame tho🥰

i can absolutely see suki being in upcoming projects! especially since she and the other kyoshi warriors expanded their reach across the nations - it would be hard to ignore them completely if we’re assuming they’re including comic canon into the universe. i hope jenny returns!!

third point - yeah! how crazy that maiko as izumi’s parents isn’t canon confirmed… though she’s so clearly mai’s daughter. i wonder if mai’s role will be expanded in upcoming projects / if she’ll be featured more. hmmm.

fourth - would honestly prefer this to the theory sokka is her father lol. it kinda baffles me that TOPH became a cop.. not bc she opposes authority - there’s something different about enforcing it than there is having to follow it. i can see toph in authoritative positions, and she fits them well. but i think it baffles me moreso because why would toph even work as a COP? isn’t that boring as hell for her?? go do something awesome like probending or professional underground fighting (adult blind bandit anyone?? this would make a good fic) or literally just construction idk i feel like toph isn’t a Hard Worker type that would want to be stuck in such a rigid career.

The Monarchal Summit

So, the summit

Warning for very messy structure, imma try to keep it in a somewhat chronological order, but I’ll most likely mess that up half way through. And I’ll also issue a warning for incorrect english and very bad grammar. And these are MY opinions and observations <3

First off, babe and Milo needs to take Asher shopping. Babe also needs to teach their man how to cook. ALSO Aggro has been mentioned, thank you Erik. Completely unrelated, but fuck Asher is hot. I’m a sucker for guys with messy hair

Where is William!? Why has he left poor Vincent to deal with this on his own. I’m not a Vincent girly, never have been, but I feel very bad for him. At Least Lovely is there for him. And his music choice, immaculate. Chefs kiss. Giving Lovely a crown, and made by the same craftsmen that made his, top notch boyfriend behaviour. “It’s such a privilege that I get to stand at your side” GOD DAMN

Moving on to Sam, he is probably the realest character ever. “When this is all done, we’re getting ice cream” realest shit i’ve ever heard except it’s practically Winter where i’m at and it’s cold af here

And going from one vamp to another, Porter is a menece and I love him sm. Ash is and always will be number one, but Porter is a close second now. But can we talk about the fact that Vincent straight up called Treasure “your human”... like sir, isn’t that a bit weird? Idk, maybe it’s just me. But I do like that Vincent genuinely tries to be civil with Porter, and for the most part he succeeds. So some part of me thinks it’s a little bit mean of Porter to add the extra stress of saying he’ll be bringing an empowered human to the summit, and then pretend Vincent is crazy for doing something about it, (the seating arrangement and such). Then again, the part of me that grew up with 3 brothers, one of them being my twin (love him with all my heart but when you have to share room with a teenage boy for 7 years you grow a tad bit tired of it), thinks Porter is fucking hilarious. Cause he is funny.

Wolfpack, by beloved. One again though, where is William, and why is he leaving Vincent to 1. “Extend his gratitude”, and 2. Do this all on his own. And ofc the Shaw pack is going to be enjoyable to be around, they’re amazing (i¨m very biassed here but still) “Blink twice if you need a way out buddy, we’re pretty good at distractions” I literally love Asher so much, muah.

I’m gonna make a jump here, and go to Alexis and Darlin’. Ew, just ew. She reminds me of one of my uncles ex wifes. She was a nasty person, just really mean. And Alexis gives me the same vibes. Like the whole “when your old” bullshit, just straight up nasty. And love Porter for stepping in, and love Sam for being protective and still so good to Darlin’. They both very much deserve each other.

ONCE AGAIN WHERE IS WILLIAM and why is this random guy bashing him to David. He has a point though, or several points. He does have a tendency to turn a blind eye to questionable things. And we would all like to see Quinn burn

Back to the wolfpack, and my finance Asher. We know you love food puppy, you make that very clear. Also Porter is right, food needs to taste good if it doesn’t serve any other purposes. I love how Asher asks Babes opinion before making a decision. (I could go on and on about them and their dynamic, but that will have to be a separate post) Porter getting right to it with Sweetheart is brave, and it really gets the lore going.

Now, getting into the heavier stuff. I said it before and I’ll say it again. Poor Vincent, and where is William???? Okay… the inversion was planned. That explains a lot, and at the same time makes the whole thing so much more tragic. I remember something either Asher or Milo said about close nit and their propaganda after the inversion “it’s like they had this ready to go” and they did. Because they planned it. Cruel. And that they got funding for it makes it even more disgusting. And I’m also worried for Sweetheart, like what happened to them?? And who killed the king of Bennet? His progeny? For money and power? Or Sweetheart out of self defence? Are they a powerful enough stealth to pull that of? Like what happened there? Erik does love to leave us hanging.

Alright that’s it for now, I might come up with something new later and add that, or write something more detailed.

I really need to take a min to talk about how much I love them

Scorpius Malfoy & Albus Potter

Sometimes you’re such an attached fan to something that you’ll like anything associated with it, and for me that’s Harry Potter. Literally give me a crumb of anything canon or expand the universe even a little bit and I’m invested. The books? Love. The movies. Love. The games. Love. Fantastic beasts? Love. The cursed child? Fucking adore.

I feel the same about Star Wars, I cannot stand being in fan bases that hate the actual content and obviously for the cursed child the hate is pretty high.

But nothing will ever compare to the feeling I had the first time I saw this show. I’d been a fan of HP my entire life and never had a ‘me’ character, and that was fine. I never had attached myself to any particular character at all or necessarily saw myself in any of them, but that was until Scorpius Malfoy walked on stage.

So I have autism (don’t really need to say more lmfao) and I’ll take any damn crumb of representation I’ll get, and idc about what ur opinion on scorps neurodiversity is, but my god… he’s me. And not in an hehe so relatable way like… I’d never connected with a character more in my life

He alone was responsible for me jumping right back into fandom culture, as an adult, even when it felt like a desert with nobody else in sight

And no matter what any grumpy hp fan tries to argue with me, so much love was poured into these characters and it comes through in every scene, every line, every single word.

When I meet another scorbus fan I just know they get it, I can trust them with my life lol, there’s like some weird unspoken connection and I think maybe it’s bc if you attach yourself to them at all and have any relatability at all to either of them like you just get it

They’re the softest sweetest most precious little things to ever grace to halls of hogwarts and I love them for that, my silly goofy delulu babies, I’m so protective over them and I always will be

Idk sometimes it feels hard to be a fan of them bc it feels so lonely? But I just wanna shout from the rooftops how much I love them bc I do and I always will

So, I've seen a lot of people getting mad at Bones for seemingly erasing bkdk moments and replacing them with Izu//ocha. As someone who began as an anime only and migrated over to the manga, I never really saw this though? I got bkdk vibes pretty fast, even when I was just watching the anime. Besides that, a lot of people forget that Bones has added shipping material for every ship, not just specific ones. They added the Kabedon (wall pound), and they also animate plenty of added little winks to the audience. I think a lot of them slip by the western audience though because I think they're more Japanese specific. I only found out because I was hungry for bkdk content and looked up the eastern side of the fandom and cultural meanings in Japan XD. Another person explained what Bones might actually be doing. Usually studios add shipping moments for multiple groups in the interest of making money, since animation is expensive. Due to this, they might be doing more filler for ships that don't have a whole lot of canon content, while moving ships that do get canon attention along through use of the plot. Idk, I just don't understand the arguments others have made. Bkdk is incredibly popular in Japan, Japan's culture on bullying means they don't (usually) have the same issues that we do with Katsuki himself, and they've added shipping moments for KiriBaku and bkdk, which means they're open to the idea. I think it's less discrimination and more about what makes sense monetarily. Business is really difficult to run, especially in the entertainment industry. Finally, for all people have complained about the distance, I noticed that in season 5 they started moving bkdk closer to each other in general. I also feel like the adding distance thing could come down to a lot of factors. They had a lot of moments of bkdk sitting next to each other or (in one case) outright leaning on each other, only to randomly be back to distance again. It could make a nice visual metaphor for how Bakugo has gotten closer to Deku, but is still internally rebelling against it. Idk, I feel like that could a lot of ways. All depends on how you view it.

Now, okay, here’s my take on this

It’s not necessarily bones as a company rather the audience they have to conform to. And they most definitely leave in a lot of bkdk scenes, yes, but that’s quite literally because they can’t go around it, not only for plot but also that like, unless you were completely clueless most people KNEW Katsuki was going to get a redemption or atonement arc of some kind. We just weren’t expecting horikoshi to make it so… romantic. And intimate.

Bones isn’t necessarily homophobic, the amount of kiri//baku scenes in the movies and in the show is undeniable. Ntm the fact that Rody and deku had a whole romantic song montage in their movie. But there’s a REASON why kiri//baku is seen as the “most straight gay ship” and that’s simply because every other boy in the show (excluding Katsuki) has a “main woman” if you will. Kaminari has jirou, kirishima has Mina (I know I’m contradicting but I’ll explain later), Izuku has ochako, etc etc.

My point is that the reason that Katsuki is never the one getting comments like “bakugou is straight” like they say “deku is straight” is because he is the most queer mother fucker you’ve ever seen. He doesn’t HAVE a love interest (see in Katsuki meta👀) like every other boy does. Some people say it’s camie but, let’s be honest here, in every scene she’s in she doesn’t even pass the bechtel test. The friend group is fun and awesome, and she teases him a lot, but, in reality, she just doesn’t have enough scenes or screen time to be a full character and develop out of a rare pair.

And bones is aware of this, just as the fandom is. Katsuki simply doesn’t have a woman to establish him as straight AND ALSO has a lot of queer coding by fitting the “gay delinquent” trope. Kirishima also fits a lot of the Japanese ideas of the “gay delinquent”. This, was entirely purposeful.

In a way bones, like many mha fans, fell for a lot of the bait hori threw and then even exaggerated it. There’s this scene in the anime where ochako is changed to questioning why she likes Izuku and then says how she’s going to “lock away these feelings”, but in the manga she says “what the hell am I doing? He’s trying his best to be a hero, I also need to try my best.” This is paraphrasing ofc, I’d need to rewatch the scene and grab the panel but I don’t currently have access to my mha books. (Which is currently my only way of getting the official translations for older chapters lol)

In some cases, it’s a stretch I won’t lie. But, while bones isn’t exactly HOMOPHOBIC, it doesn’t change how bones tries to appeal to, ultimately, a bigger audience. Shonen needs a girl and boy ending and because mha is a shonen then it will have a girl and boy ending.

Another aspect is that homophobic fans just straight up hate Katsuki. Not only because they’re usually bullied white boys that fell down the alt right pipeline, but also because Katsuki gets in the way of any of their straight ships. He’s competition for not only ochako but also Mina. And they don’t like that, but since they can’t be outwardly homophobic they just say that he’s abusive or completely un redeemable. (Which is also weird bc these people tend to also like endeavor ?????? I don’t get it. Like, I like endeavor too but what)

There’s no getting around Katsuki being a VERY queer coded character. Not only with Izuku but also with kirishima. Bones doesn’t want to take away from izu//ocha so they put their eggs into one basket; aka kiri//baku.

Anywho, there’s a reason why so many anti bkdk shippers are anime only’s and that’s both because bkdk is “cringe” in mainstream media (thanks alt right pipeline) and also because a lot of the subtext and magic was lost. Ultimately, anime is just an adaptation. The only thing that REALLY matters IS the manga. So, in the case of bkdk being canon, there’s going to be an influx of anime only’s that say that this wasn’t implied, rushed, he was forced, etc etc etc and they will ultimately just have to cope and cry and wine about it in their own pity party.

Yada yada, I kinda rambled, but yeah. I do think bones censors and then pushes a certain narrative. I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing either since, well, like I said before, anime is an adaptation of the manga. It’s not going to be accurate a LOT and that’s just a fact we kind of have to accept. I watch the anime to get the scenes I love animated now. I started out as an anime only (who started shipping them after dvk2) and I’ve re read most of the manga at this point. A lot is different and I’d honestly recommend to anyone who has the time and patience to read the entire manga. It truly is a different experience. Bkdk was more implied in the manga and izu//ocha was even more boring too. The only reason I even like izu//ocha is because of the first two seasons of mha, and then ofc fandom content. Otherwise, I’ve stopped caring for it mostly. They’re boring and have been boring for a long time. The only reason they WERENT is because of bones.

Again, anime adaptations are just that, adaptations. I don’t think it’s really a bad thing.

My dream is to one day be able to write for a living so that’d be really cool to see that people are willing to spend money for something I’ve made 🥺

Definitely That Night 🫣 It’s the first fic I wrote (recently-ish) so I feel like my writing is a little rougher in that fic. Also it’s got absolutely ZERO plot and is just about getting fucked by 3 anime guys 😫

✅What’s something that appears in your fics over and over again, even if you don’t mean it to?

Because I write fics about Reader sleeping w multiple people, I often talk about how a character kisses in comparison to another character 💀

so like “x’s kisses are soft and slow while y kisses with passion and intensity” or something like that. if i catch it when i’m editing i take it out now lol but i think it’s in at least 3 of my currently published fics

acts of service is his love language for sure 🥺 i feel like he struggles to express his feelings with words or even affection, but he’ll make you tea if you’re not feeling well or clean up the house for you to lighten your workload if you’ve had a bad day

i think he derives his self worth through his career success and money. growing up with little, i think he wouldn’t feel like he made it in life unless he was wealthy and in a well respected position

i don’t think he’d necessarily be flashy with his money. like i don’t think he’d drive a sports car or something like that, it’s more of a security thing to know that if he needed $x for something, he has it available

idk why but i feel like this man has a sweet tooth 🥺 love chocolates and candies and especially gummy candies!! i feel like he’s got a stash somewhere in the house because he doesn’t like to share

i feel like marriage would be really important to him. even tho it’s just a piece of paper and a couple of rings, i think it makes him feel secure in his relationship — but at the same time it would be really difficult for him to propose because even if you’ve been dating forever, he’d still have that small bead of insecurity that you’re going to leave

non-binary, they/them. i feel like that’s mostly canon but some people still write them with different pronouns idk. i feel like i could never write smut for hange because i can’t decide if it’s hotter for them to have a dick or a strap 🫣

will befriend literally anyone. i feel like if the two of you go out to the grocery store together, they’re chatting up the other customers, asking for recommendations from the butcher at the deli counter, talking to the cashier about school 💀 every outing takes 10x longer when you’re with them

has a hard time sitting still and is CONSTANTLY tinkering with stuff. like the two of you can’t have a moment of peace without hange being like, does that picture frame look crooked to you? i bet i could fix it. or like there’s horseback riding at a local farm nearby!! i already booked us a date there 🥰

doesn’t drink! idk why but i feel like they don’t like the way alcohol makes them feel (either in the moment or the hangover the next day) so they don’t drink. has no problem if you do and will always be your DD and go out with you, which is actually super nice because they always take care of you if you have too much 🥺

they hyperfixate on a new hobby every couple of months. this month it’s golf, so they brought a brand new set of clubs, rangefinder, golf watch, membership to the local golf club 💀 is already dragging the others on a golf trip with them later in the summer. but this same time next year, they’ll be into something completely different like photography or something 😭

you’ll literally have a separate room in the house for all of the stuff they bought during their hyperfixations that they won’t let you sell/throw out in case they wanna get back into it

How To Write An Essay

from someone who did pretty well in school. and i don’t mean the structure of an essay, because someone probably taught you that in class, i mean the actual process of sitting down to write an essay, which for some reason no teacher has ever addressed (at least to me)

(for the sake of this, I’m going to pretend i’ve been assigned an essay about shakespeare’s depiction of love in Romeo and Juliet, because I feel like thats a relatable point of reference idk)

1: scaffold. go into your document and create an outline in dotpoints of all your arguments. this is also where you put your quotes. (some people might find it helpful to also create some kind of mindmap pre- scaffold, but i tend to just use the scaffold as a mindmap, it depends on your preferred brainstorming techniques) for example, my scaffold might look like this:

point 1: the relationship between love and violence

-friar and the plants

-romeo and juliet eventually die for love

-“starcrossed lovers take their lives” (act 1, scene 1)

-romeo and juliets love is arguably the cause for mercutio’s and tybalt’s death

-“i died under your arm”-mercutio (act, scene)

point 2: etc

this is much less effort than sitting down and actually writing out that paragraph.

the number of dotpoints needed per paragraph varies but as a rule of thumb i’d say 3-5. if you know a lot of information about a topic, only a couple points with lots of depth will do. if not, briefly talk about lots of things.

if you find yourself struggling with motivation, try to make scaffolding a bit fun. meme the fuck out of it. talk abt how romeo was a lil bitch who got the infinitely cooler mercutio killed like a moron. talk abt how much you hate shakespeare. no one is going to see it. IMPORTANT: make sure that you make it easy to find and remove the scaffold later. i do it by writing all my scaffolds *like this* so that i can go through at the end with ctrl+f and find all the **s, which i don’t generally use in the actual essay. you could do something else (maybe pick a number, or some other character) if ** wont work for whatever reason. you could also colour your scaffold so that you can visually see which bits to get rid of.

further things to note: DO NOT WORRY ABOUT PLAGIARISM. if you found a really good paragraph online where someone dissected the language used in the balcony scene, copy and paste that shit directly into the scaffold (remember to include the URL to make citation easy later). that way when it does come time to write this fucking thing, all of your information is in one place and you really just have to decorate it, which is honestly the less important part anyway. you will get more points for a badly written essay with good information than a well written essay with bad information.

another thing i like to do here is calculate roughly how many words i should write per paragraph. for example, if my essay is 1500 words and i’ll have three points, my breakdown may look like this

i might even break it down further eg

i get these numbers by literally putting them into a calculator. it may seem useless but it’s actually really quick, and it will be infinitely easier to convince yourself to write 108 words about romeo and juliets death than it will be to write 1500 words about the concept of love throughout the play.

(heres the formula for breaking it down btw: intro + conclusion = about the same each, generally smaller than a body paragraph. pick whatever number you think is appropriate for the total word count, minimum 50 words. my rule of thumb is <1000=50, 1000=100, 2000=200, etc. next, [total word count] - [intro+concl] = [body paragraphs]. next, [body paragraphs] / [no. of body paragraphs] = [wordcount per paragraph], next [wordcount per paragraph] / [no. of points]. written out this seems long, but it takes 5 seconds with a calculator- i just use google)

2: actually writing the essay. tragically i cannot give you the magic words to write a perfect essay, but one really good tip that i can give you is this: don’t stop scaffolding when you start writing. personally, i tend to get tripped up on details, and get stuck in one spot. for example: i know what all my arguments should be in my paragraph about love and violence, but i cannot for the life of me think of an introductory sentence. my paragraph might look like this for a while:

*epic guitar intro like in smells like teen spirit* This concept is demonstrated in the eventual deaths of the titular characters, Romeo and Juliet, as foreshadowed in the line “starcrossed lovers take their lives” (act 1 scene 1).

its sort of like skipping a question on a test then coming back to it later. there is no point in struggling over one sentence for hours — often, writing the rest of the paragraph will actually fill in your mental blanks and make it easier to write whatever you were struggling with.

other places ive found this method helpful: quotes. for example:

Romeo and Juliet’s love also caused violence to those around them. This is evident in the death of Mercutio, Romeo’s best friend. **find quote, and include analysis*** This demonstrates Shakespeare’s connection between love and violence.

in my experience, actually searching for a particular quote can throw off my momentum and fuck up the whole process. its been much better to just mark where i want that quote to go and come back later.

you can do this for single sentences or even whole paragraphs. i often write introductions last, because i never know what to say the first go round. you do not need to write your essay chronologically. go through one pass without losing momentum, hit ctrl+f, or find your coloured bits, to locate the problem areas. has writing the rest of it managed to fix the problem? no? try the next highlighted section! go back and forth like that until theres no more highlighted bits.

other assorted tips for writing an essay: don’t worry about repetition. for a lot of people (including me), writing is something that is supposed to sound good. we try to avoid repeating words/phrases too much because it can read as annoying or boring. as anyone who has read an academic paper knows, that actually means you’re on the right track. if your thesis statement is “shakespeare depicted love as a destructive and negative force” the words “destructive” or “negative” should probably be used 2-3 times a paragraph. you really want to hammer your audience over the head with your opinion.

also, as much as possible, try to make whatever the prompt is fun for yourself. this isn’t always possible of course, but it can really make the process easier. i know this wasnt my longstanding example, but as an actual real world example of this, i had to write an essay about the movie gattaca and how it incorporated its political themes into the narrative, and i argued that actually it had done a terrible job at that and that the movie as a whole sucked ass. i got 95%. if you have any kind of strong feelings about the topic, make them fit the question. its much less mind numbing than writing 2000 words you dont actually agree with for the sake of your grade.

if you need to take a break, maybe try working on homework for a different subject. this’ll shake things up so your brain is doing something new, but you won’t exit school mode and lose momentum entirely.

3: editing. dont worry too much. read through it so theres no glaring issues. try reading it out loud — you’re more likely to pick up on clunky sentences or grammar errors out loud. if you really want to do well, have someone else look over it (a classmate/teacher would be best bc they know what info was available to you but anyone will do)

final tips: its better to hand in something unfinished/badly written than nothing at all.

it is 100% better to sit down for five minutes and add 20 words to your essay than not to do anything. you dont have to dedicate your evening to it. progress is progress. a good way to do this is to get word/docs on your phone.

high school isnt life or death - failing this essay will not destroy you.

for essays on an exam, my best tip is don’t worry abt making it pretty. use the first page to make a mindmap. write more info later and use an arrow to show where it should be. it doesnt matter.

this might not work for you, but i hope it can act as a jumping off point to find what does work for you! go forth and conquer!

Probably just coz it’s the middle of the night and I didn’t sleep last night either but I un-why-lamped myself on accident and I feel I must remove my clown nose, hang up the rainbow wig, so to speak. I no longer see a viable path forward for irl canon buddie 😔 the caveat of course is that I would love to be proven wrong, and I’m not about to be shoving these opinions on other people, but I gotta get them outta my head.

tbh I was brought into this show by ppl who fully believe(d) in canon buddie so I was eventually convinced to hop into the clown car w them. Idk if they’re still in there or not but it doesn’t much matter. I can be genuinely rooting for the honk honk crew and also acknowledge when I feel like the probability is no longer on our side.

I just I think I got so sleep deprived it made me a little high/delirious to the point where I accidentally tripped and fell into a General Audiences view of buck and Eddie and suddenly everything seemed like there was a totally obvious no homo rationale behind it. Granted, up until 6.18 I think the potential was still there, truly, but the way they ended s6 was a little too firm for me to believe they would still be able to lead a GA member down the path to canon buddie. The fact is that they needed to plant some explicit (by which I mean literally said with words or implied so strongly that there is no possible way a generic viewer would be able to take it another way) evidence that either one of them has ever in the past had attraction to other men or is currently reconsidering their approach. As simplistic and reductive as it feels for me, a certified Advanced Internet Queer, I do also think it is necessary to lead GA by the hand with something like that. And I think they’ve pretty much missed their chance.

I have yet to mention at all any thoughts about why this may have happened or what intentionality may currently or previously be present at any level of production of the show. That’s a whole other bag of worms and I have plenty of speculative thoughts but I’ll touch on that at the end if I get to it.

Like I just. I just suddenly saw a vision of a GA watching it and going: ah yes Buck has wanted to be a dad since s1e1 so he made friends with Eddie who already was a dad but didn’t have a partner so he had a slot open for a bff, so he taught Buck a little more about being a dad the same way Abby taught Buck about being a partner. The will scene was just Eddie making it explicit that he recognizes how buck has evolved into a dad-worthy character so he can be a back up dad. Eddie’s panic attacks? Not leading to something interesting about comphet, no it was legit just about Shannon, who is now his high school gf he knocked up at 18. The couch thing? Not that deep, just a fun visual to remind ppl that buck needs a good couch that he picks for himself/with his next partner (not rushed into it or picked for him by a well meaning but out of touch family member). And it shows up at Eddie’s house bc he heard about it from buck and is also feeling the need for a partner in his house. Even “you two have an adorable son” was given exclusively to Buck to cue his brain to think about how he does actually enjoy being seen as a dad and would like to have a son someday maybe, like it’s just for him to actualize that as a concrete goal for the future. The poker game? It’s Eddie showing off how confident and connected he is, proving he CAN be suave and have a night out if he does it to have fun (and not be a performance).

Plus the thing w Natalia they seem to be setting up to be pretty serious, given that they tried to run her off with his most offensive exes, and then made her be present for an emergency helps her see a little more of the reality of his job, and particularly with it being for the birth of a baby, AND her recognizing the way he looked at the baby and THEN saying “hey I like you let’s smooch” like…they legit set her up to actually see his major drama and his life/partner goals BEFORE they start aiming towards anything serious. So like yeah it never seemed like Taylor was gonna want kids but if Natalia didn’t want kids she wouldn’t have led him on AFTER watching him deliver a baby. Idk I just feel like they actually set Natalia up pretty well to be a decent match for Buck if that’s where they wanted to go. And same w Marisol to a much lesser degree obvs.

Idk I’m hella sleep deprived and can’t think of anymore of my “gotcha” buddie moments but like. EYE don’t see/interpret things this way, *but* I suddenly was able to understand how someone could pay close attention and still legit fail to spot the buddie of it all without being malicious.

And that plus the changing political climate and the writers strike make me think that it’s just not worth the risk like it may once have been, idk. Idk it sucks lol I don’t enjoy this, and I do feel like there are some episodes where the queer subtext is very strong so like maybe that WAS the goal at some point or some writers/directors managed to get more subtext in, like supernatural stylez lol idfk there’s no way of ever knowing that unless they say so, so idk

I started typing this post about one particular Pokémon thing but then it spiraled into a long rambling rant-like thing so I’ll just put it behind a read more. Idk, read if you want my Pokémon opinions I guess.

I will always regret being a coward in middle school when Pokémon black and white came out. I bought it but then quickly returned it because I despised Patrat, the monkey trio, vanillite and a few other Pokémon from the BW early game and I was afraid if my classmates found out I was still playing Pokémon they would make fun of me (even more than they already did). So I ended up missing out on the games with the best sprites and, apparently the best story from what I’ve been told, in the whole series. Then Pokémon made the disappointing jump to 3D with XY, a game whose only meaningful contribution was mega evolution. Then we got ORAS which I thought was perfect. And then Sun and Moon which I loved, but was immediately soured when then they tricked me into buying the same exact game with Ultra Sun when I was expecting it to be like BW2, and then every game since then has been more and more disappointing. I thought sword and shield was fine when I played it, I quite enjoyed my playthrough because at the time I was just starting to transition and I found the games fashion to be very fun and Wooloo, Hatterene, and Dracovish we’re all Pokémon I adored (hated the starters though). Then Pokémon made the move of giving another studio the job of creating the Diamond and Pearl remake but gave them no creative freedom so the game is exactly the same but with an art style and 3D Pokémon models that I find significantly less appealing than the original game’s charming sprites (even if the load times are better). Then we got PLA which was an interesting semi-spin-off that immediately lost everyone’s attention because they waited like 5 minutes before announcing Scarlet and Violet, which are looking like they’re going in the exact opposite direction of literally everything I enjoy about Pokémon.

All this is to say that I guess Pokémon really isn’t for me anymore. I guess that’s fine. I feel entitled to being sad about parting ways from something I was obsessed since I was 4. I deeply wish they would spend far longer developing their games instead of pushing them out with ridiculous deadlines and crunch time, but I know they won’t because people aren’t going to stop playing Pokémon, and the plushies are where the money comes from anyway. Even competitive Pokémon went in a direction I completely despise. I guess whenever I get the itch to play Pokémon again I’ll replay an old game or delve deep into the growing romhack scene.

If Pokémon ever wants to win back the incredibly specific fan group that I’m in, they’ll spend years developing a new battle revolution or something with all Pokémon and moves in it (to fix competitive) and with animated 3D Pokémon that actually have the extremely charming character that they did back in battle revolution. This will literally never happen because there are more than double the Pokémon there were when battle revolution came out, the mainline games are already in 3D (even though I think the Pokémon look bad), and Pokémon doesn’t really care that much about their competitive scene. Or maybe they could win me back if they just stopped doing this ridiculous yearly release schedule and took a couple years to make a good game, but that makes less money so that also won’t happen.

(Don’t get me started on the PTCG I could rant waaaaaaaay longer than this about the PTCG)

This was very well done! It made my chest ache and made me tear up a couple of times. TOS McKirk really deserves more love, and I enjoy how you've built up this trust between them to work with what we get on screen. Even if you don't do a sequel to this, I think you should write more TOS McKirk in general! You captured them very well.

because it was left on my very first mckirk fic that I still love dearly. And it’s just so “I made someone feel something?” 👀👀👀

9. A time when writing was really, really hard:

I feel like I’m going through times when it’s easy then it’s hard then it’s easy again and it all blends together. (You can usually tell whenever I “complain” on tumblr lol) The last time, it was just before Christmas because I was so stressed from not having everything done, but the moment I actually bought presents I felt better lol

10. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you:

It feels weird to say now, but And All I Ask..., the first mckirk fic. Like, I literally woke up one day and was like let’s write a tos!mckirk fic. And romantic one even. I’d never expected that to happen. And in that fic in particular, there’s a scene where Kirk and McCoy both kiss the same woman, and that whole scene was also very surprising when I came up with it.

11. A favorite excerpt of your writing:

A loud thunder sounded, and McCoy startled, his shoulder brushing Jim’s. Jim pressed closer, hoping to convey he was there and McCoy wasn’t alone. Sitting in the dark could sometimes feel as if there was no one else, as if you were the only person in the universe. All alone.

Jim let out a breath and stretched out his leg, letting the side rest against McCoy’s thigh. Maybe it wasn't McCoy Jim wanted to reassure. Maybe it was he who needed to know he wasn't alone. Who needed to feel another person's presence in this dark place.

"Do you ever regret joining?" Jim asked, breaking the silence.

McCoy scoffed. "Sure. Right now."

"McCoy."

"My..." McCoy cleared his throat. "My daughter's fourteenth birthday is next week."

Marriage. Daughter. Jim dug his fingers into the soft ground. Did he even know anything about McCoy?

12. How did you grow as a writer this year:

I don’t think I did? idk I always feel like I’m just getting worse, instead of moving forward, I’m going back... I would reread fics I wrote in 2016 and feel like they’re more creative and more fun, and I start to feel like I’m stagnating.

13. How do you hope to grow next year:

I wish I could let go of “people expect to see established fanon” way of thinking, I wish I could stop caring what other people think, I wish I could write a fic where I won’t need to include anything that I know the fandom expects. I just hope that I’ll be able to write a fic the way I want without making compromises... I also want to work on structure of my one-shots.

14. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc):

Jim Kirk lol

15. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year:

I don’t think so.

16. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers:

If you’re stuck, retype your fic again. Or chapter/scene if your fic is too long. You might not change anything (but you most likely will, even if it’s just your wording or a word choice), but you will also get back into the flow and it’s easier to continue. And it’s better than staring at a screen with no result.

17. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year:

At the moment, I’m working on a fic with a pair of characters I’ve never thought I would want to write about (I mean the dynamic, one of them is Kirk because of course it is lol), but here I am, wanting to tell a short moment in time with the two of them. I’m being vague and don’t want to say too much, because I’m afraid that if I mention it, I will lose the drive to write it.

ahhh hi hi i'm here with thoughts about the new chap hehe

ok first, i LOVE this line so much. i can kind of see it now - the similarities between reader and hanma, but at the same time they are so so different. i'm not sure why but this stood out to me! there were also many lines like this thru out the chap - i do pay attention to details bc i know some writers have a bunch of foreshadowing in their fics👀

another thing is that i literally GASPED when a certain violet haired man made an approach in this fic, im guessing it was ran but i was so happy to have him in this fic!! (i don't think it was actually mentioned if it was ran or rin, but i'm p sure it was ran ahah) i rly liked the entire encounter and he was being pretty respectful which i didn't see coming lol.

yknow i loved this entire convo so much there was a lot thrown at us but at the same time you described/phrased it in such a way that made it easier to understand. i think i re read this part like 3 times; i kinda felt like this is the most honest convo they’ve had and it was the most series imo. it was really nice seeing hanma kinda open up. we also got to know more about the docs past too.

the last line about minimizing pain for the reader 👀 idk if im being dumb or if this has some sort of deeper meaning, but is it talking about the docs emotional pain? (towards hanma maybe?) im not sure lol rip and maybe it’ll be cleared up within the next few chapters but for now i’ll be left wondering hehe

okoki this is getting so so long i’m so sorry BUT i reallyyyy wanna talk about the smut i was literally vibrating in my seat the entire time aksdj when i first read the chap tags i kinda saw where it was going. club - hanma get head - reader watches. BUT OMG I DIDNT expect the reader to join in??!AND THE EYE CONTACT? deceased. i had to put my phone down a few times bc it was just THAT good ahaha. you really write such good smut it leaves my brain all mushy (that kakucho fie lives in my head rent free btw.)

OK IM FINISHED. i’m really sorry if this was annoying but i genuinely love this fic so much and your writing as well!!!! your fics are perfect for analysis and every chap keeps me thinking ahah but thanks again for sharing your wonderful work with us!!! have an amazing week!! And yeah, reader + hanma are so different from each other, but i think they have a pretty similar problem with how they move through the world. they never could have had this conversation before. they're only able to be this open now because a) they both think they're talking more big picture and not being fully aware of what they're revealing about themselves; but most importantly b) they have a CREEPING INTIMACY! they are so much closer than they were a few chapters back :) I am so glad you noticed that because it was Very intentional.

you pretty much nailed the pain comment. Reader recognizes that she is taking on a very out of character risk with the Hanma stuff, and that opens her up to emotional pain but also risk that he's going to make her (or her life) change, which she is resistant to.

not much to say about the smut stuff other than...i am glad to see it's working. that is what i was going for 😏😆 (also thank you on the kakucho fic :))

it means the WORLD that you find things to analyze and think about because i am pouring so much of that in there intentionally, and knowing that people see it and get something out of it too is Super motivating. I have written for Murphy from The Boondock Saints and Scud from Blade II (if any of you discord hos bring up the throbbing member or the warm thick load, I will kill you).

I’m open to (and planning on) writing for more Norman Reedus characters, too! These are the ones I’m thinking about writing for:

Van from Floating

Travis from Gossip

Harry from Six Ways to Sunday (slightly off-canon to get the obvious weird shit out of there lmao)

Young Man from Dark Harbor (I mean I will obviously have to give him a name lol)

Sam from Death Stranding (whenever I get around to playing it lol)

POSSIBLY Marco from Deuces Wild ***with a big disclaimer—I won’t write him exactly how he is in the movie. I would write my own VERY non-canon version of Marco without the abuse and SA, and I’d have the same rules as my usual writing (aka no non-con), but tbh I’m still debating that bc obviously his character is literally evil but also… fifties bad boy Norman?? 😩 the fifties vibes???? 🤌🏻🤌🏻 I just want a good 50s Norman character, that’s all I ask. Basically I’d put my own, less problematic spin on the character without taking away his “bad boy” schtick. We’ll see I guess…

There are also a handful of SUPER obscure Norman characters I’ve had ideas for (e.g., Jonathan from Bad Seed, Jack from Sand, Lucien from Beat, dare I say… Nick from Beatnicks… I gotta get my moneys worth from that shitty movie) but if I ever write for those guys, I’m not sure if I will post them since they’re just so random and like idk if anyone wants to read those lol. Plus the movies are not popular so idk but I’ll keep everyone posted.

I think I said at one point I was gonna write for Mac from Red Canyon but there’s no way I can work around the terrible aspects of that character so that’s probably not gonna happen. I had seen other people writing for him, so that’s why I thought maybe I could pull it off but do I even want to write for a Norman character that doesn’t have teeth? Probably not. 🥴

SO BASICALLY I am open to writing pretty much every Norman character within reason and within my own boundaries lol. There are some grey areas and stuff I’m willing to try to take creative liberties with (it’s fanfiction!) but yeah, that’s my list. I might be forgetting some characters, and if there’s one in particular you want to know if I will write for that I haven’t mentioned, feel free to ask.

4. On your fandom.

// For Pokemon: I saw that gen 9 has finally been released, and how much of a buggy mess the games are (It’s just BDSP all over again). And I’m curious to see how people are going to defend GF/Pokemon company this time around. For USD$60, I sure hope people are enjoying the game. But somehow, I feel like this new generation is even worse than Galar. BECAUSE, it came after all of the shitshow that the previous generation turned out to be. They literally haven’t done much in the way of improvement, from one generation to another one. I mean, why would they? Gen 8 may have been their most profitable gen ever since the original and gen 2 hype.

It’s not all a lost cause, but these games shouldn’t have been released in this state. And watch them mask the “fixing patch” as the USD$30 DLCs that are coming. I obviously still very much love the franchise, but the most recent entries have been so... Disheartening to see. Is it wrong for me to say how I think us as fans deserve something better? I wished that the companies in charge of pokemon, would change their strategies. So the team working on the main line games would be able to have proper time, to establish and iron out the next entries. Bc both humans and pokemon designs wise have been pretty lackluster, if I say so myself.

For SW: Going from one subject to another one...

SW is primarily a succession of tragedies, one after another. That’s the main drive for the series’ narratives, and I’m shocked to see the amount of people who just seem to be unable to handle these themes in a fandom for a show like this.

SW isn’t anywhere near on the same level as say GoT/HotD, in the amount of taboo/darker subjects. But the serie’s main theme is war, it’s literally in the name sake. And the franchise, never sugarcoated or even romanticized this topic and always tried to show the effects it had across the galaxy as well as from all perspectives. That’s IMO the coolest part about SW. The entire cast of SW isn’t 100% good or bad, there is nuance in many places.

Then, here comes some people who I feel like, would be way happier in a fandom for a serie like pokemon. ‘This character did some bad things, and I’m not happy with it, that’s why I’ll stan a version of this character that in no way or shape reflects the source material’. IDK man, if you’ve to do this in order to get any amount of enjoyment out of something, then... WOuldn’t it be better to try get into something that’ll cater to your tastes better?

I’m not being a canon purist, bc hell I’m also not the most SW knowledeagble (there is still a lot I must have yet to know, everyone knows it is a mess.). BUT IM SAYING THAT, mAKING OCS OUT OF ESTABLISHED CHARACTERS IS KINDA OF COUNTER PRODUCTIVE IN MY VIEW POINT. Especially if they get mad, that ppl will turn to the source material for reference, and not consult their personal interpretation of the facts. Which in no way or shape, will ever replace the canon.

I understand not being comfortable with stories, SW can get dark at times. That’s why I feel like, some people would be happier in other communities.

Favourite classics?

Oh my god, so in case you were not aware, anon, for the longest time my entire personality was Into Classic Literature. But I also burnt out pretty hard and it’s been a good few years since I’ve read most of my favorites so I’m not entirely sure how my feelings would shift on reread for most of these? And a lot of my thoughts are highly tied to nostalgia and my experiences at the time I was most fond of and actively reading them. But with that caveat, let’s dive in:

- Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux

This should surprise no one. I am a Phantom of the Opera fan first and a person second. OG hyperfixation. I literally learned French to read it in the original language. I love the gothic drama, I love the wonky detective fiction vibes. Erik is fascinating and horrible as a character. Christine has never done anything wrong in her life and I love her. I used to project really hard on their dynamic. But simply by virtue of not being in an abusive relationship anymore, I’ve kind of outgrown this story? I still appreciate it a lot for the drama and themes, and the nostalgia means I’ll love it forever. I just don’t think I’ll ever go back to it with that same fervor. (I mean. hopefully lol)

- Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë

Another book that was incredibly formative. I love the atmosphere, I love the poisonous relationships and the way the characters could never really escape each other. The way the second generation suffered so much for the mistakes of the first. It’s so good. When I was a teen, I read the entire fucking novel out loud for a group of other kids over the course of a few months? Idk it was weird and very earnest. And the utterly rapt look on everyone’s faces when we got to the famous “You say I killed you? Haunt me then” scene is a cherished memory lmao.

- Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky

I had a long Russian lit phase, and this was one of my favorites at the time. I love the complexity, the grimness. Raskolnikov’s spiral is fascinating. OG antihero. The angst and anguish and almost delirium of his character is so fucking good. And the philosophical questions and politics of the novel itself is also super compelling. Like from a historical standpoint it’s also just so intriguing to consider the context in which it was written in and the philosophical movements it’s in response to.

- Dracula by Bram Stoker

Vampires man, idk I love them. The Gothic melodrama of it all. The characters’ different journeys. The very nerdy focus on logistics lol. This is a story that I’ve loved long enough and consistently enough that it’s honestly hard to point out what I like about it because like. of course I do. But yeah it’s all just incredibly fun to me.

Dracula is also obviously a very flawed text and at its heart a lot of its metaphors are steeped in xenophobia, homophobia, etc etc. And as much as I love the story itself, I think it’s definitely just as interesting for those flaws imo. Analyzing the context of historical texts is a large part of the appeal for me. And that also applies to how much of a genre and trope codifier it was.

Honorable mentions because I’m out of time to talk at length actually:

Shakespeare’s tragedies, Jane Eyre, most of Poe’s short stories, War and Peace by Tolstoy, Yevgeny Onegin by Pushkin, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens (even though his prose kills me), Turn of the Screw by Henry James, the Oresteia, We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson, Frankenstein, My Cousin Rachel and Rebecca by Du Maurier
