Okay, hopefully this posts correctly this time! Headcanons about the Red Hair Pirates’ crew roles and duties below because I think about these guys way too much. (+ would love to hear anyone else’s headcanons for this!)

Shanks: captain; canon. Can't add much more here!

Benn: first mate; canon. Handles oversight with just about everything on board, from making sure things run smoothly day to day, managing their funds and budget, and information oversight from their associated crews and islands once they gain them. If it isn't specifically assigned to someone else (and possibly, even if it is), it falls under this position.

Yasopp: sniper; canon. In charge of all watch duties both at sea and on land. Responsible for crew members focused on long-range combat and training crew members in those skills. Assists Gab with overseeing long-range artillery.

Lucky: cook; canon. In charge of all meals, galley staff, and keeping track of food stores. Also assists with keeping track of alcohol stores.

Hongo: doctor; canon. In charge of all medical necessities aboard, both emergency and nonemergency. Responsible for medicine stocks and any compounding as necessary. Assists with sail repairs when needed and available (suturing skills come in handy).

Limejuice: helmsman; non-canon. Steers ship and works in conjunction with Building Snake to traverse plotted courses. Considered adjacent to Yasopp and his watch duty by nature of always having an eye out anyways while steering.

Bonk Punch: musician; canon. Keeps morale up with his music alongside Monster. Main instrument is a fiddle (non-canon), though is skilled with string instruments of all sizes (cellos sadly aren't easily maneuverable aboard). Jack of all trades assisting other senior officers as necessary.

Monster: musician; canon. See above for musician's duties; main instrument is a concertina (similar to a small accordion; non-canon). Also assists around the ship.

Building Snake: navigator; canon. Plans all navigation routes requested by the captain and first mate, advises against any known nautical hazards, and works with Limejuice to properly maneuver the ship.

Gab: Shipwright/carpenter; non-canon. Responsible for overall ship maintenance and repairs; is heavily involved in choosing any new ship for the crew. For combat, handles all non-gun, long-range artillery, including maintenance, firing crews for combat, and artillery stock; done in conjunction with Yasopp.

100% canonical that Shanks still believes children are found in the treasure chests, a bit like the story of cabbages and storks. For some reason this is all Roger's fault, as always...

And I'm also certain that there was a conversation with Luffy that went something like this:

Luffy: Shanks, Grandpa told me babies are brought by storks, but I know that's not true.

Shanks: Yes, you are right. Sit down, the time has come for you to know the truth.

Red Haired Pirates & Makino: NO!

Shanks: Children are found in the treasure chests.

Luffy: Really? So cool!

Red Haired Pirates & Makino: *sigh of relief*

After Luffy is gone.

Yasopp: For a moment I almost thought you wanted to tell him the truth.

Shanks: What are you talking about?

Punch: Of the children's story, Boss.

Roux: Yeah, I don't really know how you came up with the treasure chest story so quickly.

Gab: The Captain is fantastic, always full of imagination!

Shanks: Guys... wait... you don't know that children are found in the treasure chests?

Snake: Wait... you mean...

Limejuice: You really believe it?

Hongou: Are you kidding, aren't you?

Shanks: Guys, this is how I was found.

i mean the red-head guy is cool ‘n'all, but... (ch. 1054 spoilers)

you're sleeping on Benn Beckman and his Ace Frehley Spaceman style vibe he's got going on here (along with a few other vibes). OR you wish you were. OR, I wish I was. Shanks probably is, so one of us got lucky (and I'm not talking about Roux).

And Yassop aside, I guess the guy on the left (Limejuice, apparently) is why there are theories out there that he's Kid's deadbeat dad, like, y'know, Axl Rose to Johnny Rotten, in vibes and ego rather than age.

You guys know I'm a multi-shipper, right? These two work together. Cameo in a few fics too. Benn (Beck) is great (Shanks too).

On-going list of RHP headcanons (alphabetical)

Beckman

Idk what North Blue is supposed to represent in the One Piece universe but Benn is a southern country man to me. It’s not obvious at first. His accent only really shows when he gets mad, which just makes it worse because some of the crew (the other officers mainly) can’t help but laugh at him when he gets like this.

Hongo

Mr Cleanliness is a virgo and a cat person. They actually keep one in the infirmary when people are injured or sick to cheer them up. It’s a big fluffy black tom they like to jokingly call Baby Benn. Benn hates this and calls him BB like the gun. (BB stuck more but Shanks still calls him Baby Benn.)

Limejuice

Limejuice and Hongo aren’t natural blonds. Inconsistencies in early designs also back this up. (Not that I need evidence.)

Limejuice is trans. 12 years ago he was pre-op. Now that he’s post op, he’s more comfortable with growing his hair out long and not being misgendered.

I know his gloves are probably for his electricity but they also hide how dainty his hands look.

Limejuice’s sunglasses are prescription. That’s why he wears them all the time, day or night. He knows this makes him look like an asshole, but his normal glasses make him less intimidating and people make fun of him.

There are a few situations where he has to take them off, like when it rains.

Limejuice sits in the most uncomfortable looking positions and it drives Hongo nuts because it fucks up his back. He’s also very flexible which makes his sitting positions even worse.

Yasopp

Yasopp is Cajun. Supposedly he eats crustaceans with the shell on and I like to think it’s because crawfish don’t have a lot of meat and most of their weight is their shells (plus that’s where all the seasoning is.)
