happily having some quiet time from social media to allow brain to defrag and am doing a lot of art studies to improve my skills, but here’s some of my old art for Throwback Friday! I originally did these for Halloween a couple of years ago and my big pansexual heart loves my spooky ladies ❤️ what other spooky icons should I paint this year? Please give me suggestions 😁
ok I already posted Emily before but I’m too lazy to edit her out 😅

you know what would be hysterical? You know those adorable Pocket Princesses comics by Amy Mebberson where the official Disney Princesses all live together and feature cameos from other characters?
What if the spooky ladies (Lily, Elvira, Morticia, the Bride, Marya, Vampira, Luna Mora, etc) all lived together and other horror/horror comedy icons made appearances too in the Spookyverse?

I know you said that you didn't find your hands very graceful on the photo of you holding the parmesan, but I'll have you know, the first thought I had looking at the photo are that your hands are just marvelously sort of Victorian-shaped in a way that I can't really quantify - whether that's the kind of fingernail angle that looks like you do a lot of handicraft, or just the kind of small round hand that looks really lovely in a flowing sleeve or might fit nicely in someone else's in a very gentle dancing hold - well! you've got quite pretty hands!
Thank you! That's very kind.
Sometimes you always wanted- since childhood; genuinely -to be a terrifying vampire queen/cold and aloof Gothic noblewoman, but you got Ingenue Hands. And you just have to roll with that, because they are Good and Functional hands that mostly do what you want, so you have nothing substantial to complain of.

Propaganda
Yvonne De Carlo (Frontier Gal, The Ten Commandments, Casbah)— Although most famous for playing Lily Munster in The Munsters, Yvonne De Carlo had a successful movie career throughout the 1940s and 1950s, appearing in such films as “The Ten Commandments”, “Sea Devils” and two Munster movies later in life.
Setsuko Hara (Tokyo Story, Late Spring, The Idiot)— "'The only time I saw Susan Sontag cry,' a writer once told me, his voice hushed, 'was at a screening of a Setsuko film.' What Setsuko had wasn’t glamour—she was just too sensible for that—it was glow, one that ebbed away and left you concerned, involved. You got the sense that this glow, like that of dawn, couldn’t be bought. But her smiles were human and held minute-long acts, ones with important intermissions. When she looked away, she absented herself; you felt that she’d dimmed a fire and clapped a lid on something about to spill. Over the last decade, whenever anyone brought up her lips—'Setsuko’s eternal smile,' critics said, that day we learned that she’d died—I thought instead of the thing she made us feel when she let it fall." - Moeko Fujii
This is round 2 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.

Setsuko Hara:

One of the best Japanese actresses of all time; a symbol of the golden era of Japanese cinema of the 1950s After seeing a Setsuko Hara film, the novelist Shūsaku Endō wrote: "We would sigh or let out a great breath from the depths of our hearts, for what we felt was precisely this: Can it be possible that there is such a woman in this world?"

One of the greatest Japanese actresses of all time!! Best known for acting in many of Yasujiro Ozu's films of the 40s and 50s. Also she has a stunning smile and beautiful charm!

She's considered by some to be the greatest Japanese actress of all time! In Kurosawa's The Idiot she haunts the screen, and TOTALLY steals the show from Mifune every time she appears.
Tumblr media
"No other actor has ever mastered the art of the smile to the same extent as Setsuko Hara (1920–2015), a celebrated star and highly regarded idol who was one of the outstanding actors of 40s and 50s Japanese cinema. Her radiant smile floods whole scenes and at times cautiously undermines the expectations made of her in coy, ironic fashion. Yet her smile's impressive range also encompasses its darker shades: Hara's delicate, dignified, melancholy smile with which she responds to disappointments, papers over the emotions churning under the surface, and flanks life's sobering realizations. Her smiles don't just function as a condensed version of her ever-precise, expressive, yet understated acting ability, they also allow the very essence of the films they appear in to shine through for a brief moment, often studies of the everyday, post-war dramas which revolve around the break-up of family structures or the failure of marriages. Her performances tread a fine line between social expectation and personal desire in post-war Japan, as Hara attempts to lay claim to the autonomy of the female characters she plays – frequently with a smile." Leading lady of classic Japanese cinema with a million dollar smile
Maybe the most iconic Japanese actress ever? She rose to fame making films with Yasujiro Ozu, becoming one of the most well-known and beloved actresses in Japan, working from the 30s through the 60s in over 100 hundred. She is still considered one of the greatest Japanese actresses ever, and in my opinion, just one of the greatest actresses of all time. And she was HOT! Satoshi Kon's film Millennium Actress was largely based on her life and her career.

Carroll Borland, 1935
American teacher, writer and actress. She is recognized for having played Luna, the daughter of Count Mora (Bela Lugosi's character in 'Mark of the Vampire') and for creating the iconic look of the vampire. Yvonne De Carlo (Lily Munster) and Maila Nurmi (Vampira) visual designs were based on her appearance .

I just adore the idea of Ellis wearing an outfit inspired by the Jackie Kennedy Pink suit! It literally fits her so much! The gentlemen who prefer blondes dress for Chizuko fits her so much as well! It made me immediately think of Ellis wearing the iconic pink Marylin Monroe dress now! anyways I adore the outfit choices you picked out! It randomly made me think of Ellis wearing one of Audrey Hepburn’s looks like the Roman Holiday look or even the Breakfast at Tiffany’s! Anyways stan Victoria “Mortica Addams” Shard
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS ELLIS WEARING ONE OF AUBREY'S LOOKS FROM BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S!!
I definitely tried to look for outfits that were worn by actresses during the 1930s to 60s since that's where Victoria's idol aesthetic is(Since Lana Del Rey's aesthetic is often described as "vintage" or "old Hollywood")
Fun fact, actually: I was originally going to give Juvia the iconic pink outfit from the sitcom "I dream of Jeannie" from 1965, but after looking up some looks from Audrey Hepburn, I chose the regency styled dress from "War and peace" instead ^^
I know Carol also does a bit of fanservice, but I also believe she and Mayuu would want to be comfortable without wearing anything too revealing 🤔 So I chose Mary Tyler Moore from the Dick Van Dyke show and Elizabeth Montgomery from 'Bewitched'
I was watching the original Addams family sitcom since it took place in 1964. And when I saw Carolyn Jones and John Astin in their respective costumes? I knew I had to give Victoria and Aguri those kind of outfits.
The boys who weren't Aguri were a bit of a challenge, since most men in the 30s to 60s would mostly wear suits. Especially in sitcoms like Bewitched. So unfortunately I had to give them suits, but were similar to the patterning and sewing techniques in the 60s.
Another fun fact: I was planning to make Carol and/or Ellis wear a replica of Yvonne De Carlo's costume when she was playing Lily Munster in 'The Munsters'.
Sorry if this was a long ramble, but I really enjoyed looking up references for everyone, the girls in particular ^^

Lily Munster and the Bride giving each other fashion tips on what kind of fabric is best to make clothes out of (the Bride likes gauze but Lily argues insect silk is sturdier and just as pretty). Going on double dates. Giving each other makeovers. Discussing the pros and cons of classic science vs magic based science. Whether or not abandoned hilltop towers or haunted suburban mansions are cozier. The Bride helping Lily pick out a new coffin for Eddie. Having craft sessions. Taking Marilyn out for coffee in the graveyard and shopping for shrouds to cheer her up after the latest boy trouble. Lily helping the Bride deal with her anxiety around people. Being Universal bffs. 🖤🖤🖤
