i think that the thing that pisses me off most about writers needing to constantly introduce characters is that there are sooooo many underutilized characters that could fill the exact same niche that a new character could but writers arent doing it because a) they want to be Special and make their own characters thatll disappear in 5 years and b) theyre too lazy to tweak the story just a little bit to use an existing character so they just create a new one that no one cares about

HOME FOR CHRISTMAS
Book : Open Heart
Pairing : Ethan Ramsey x Diana Ramirez(mc)
Summary : Ethan and Diana celebrate Christmas their way.
Warnings : None just my poor attempt at fluff
Rating : General
A/N : I wasn't supposed to write this, but the damn idea would not leave my head. So I gave in and wrote this short Christmasy piece.
Tumblr media
24th December, 2020, 8:30p.m.
"You should have taken the morning shift today and spent the night and Christmas morning with your friends", an exasperated Dr. Ramsey could be heard from the corridors of the 5th floor of Edenbrook Hospital. "And leave you alone to handle the rush of Christmas eve accidents? Never, moreover I am not that big on Christmas like the rest of them", an equally exasperated Dr. Ramirez could be heard arguing with her boyfriend.
"But you are excited about all holidays and last year you took the day off on Christmas", said a visibly surprised Ethan, "That was because I didn't want to miss out on any experience after such a close brush with death",said Diana softly and just like that Ethan's scowl gave way to something softer, their eyes met, blue gazing into brown and none of them could look away, eyes holding onto each other as if fearing that letting go would lead to something terrible...... Suddenly Diana's pager went off and with a tremendous strain they broke off, each going their separate ways but hearts beating with the promise of holding onto each other forever......
24th December, 2020, 10:20 p.m.
The rush in the free clinic had reduced after 10 and Diana found herself trudging towards the paedeatrics ward but she stopped abruptly at the door noticing that someone was already there, surrounded by kids....
"Ethan, what are you doing here?", she asked. Excusing himself from the gaggle of over enthused kids, he made his way towards a befuddled Diana at the door." Every Christmas Eve I like spending some time with the kids, decorating and making sure they dont have too much sugar, these kids cannot go home and I just–", Ethan shrugged, trying to explain himself.
Diana knew exactly what he wanted to say, without him even speaking even a single word.
She knew that Ethan hadn't celebrated a single Christmas since his mother left them all those years ago.
She knew that he sympathised with these kids, he didn't want them to spend Christmas alone.
She knew that although he would never admit it, he still cared about others, inspite of repeatedly calling himself a cynic.
She knew that Ethan secretly ached for having meaningful traditions and having people to celebrate those with.
And she also knew that if this was what he wanted, she would stay with him, even if that meant spending the night in the hospital.
Her train of thoughts were broken when an excited voice exclaimed, "Dr. Ramsey, Freddie is saying that we should hang the red bauble but I think that the gold bauble would be prettier, which one should we put up then?" and before Ethan could answer Diana spoke up, "How about we put up both, Elena? Red and Gold makes a beautiful combination don't you think?"she said while taking the kid's hand and entering the ward, immediately busying herself with Christmas decorations and entertaining the kids.....
In the meanwhile, she completely missed the lovestruck expression on Ethan's face as he gazed at his girlfriend, enamoured by her childlike innocence and the wonderful beauty of her heart.....
24th December, 2020, 11:40p.m.
The Christmas tree had been finally decorated, the kids were asleep and the doctors had managed to discreetly place the gifts under the tree and now they sat together underneath the tree, in comfortable silence, shoulders touching.
When Ethan cleared his throat,"Thank you, for being here, it means more than you know" "I'll always be there for you Ethan, I just hope I am doing things right, I've never really had any Christmas traditions, my father had practically grown like an Indian, back in Dehradoon and Kolkata as a boy and mom is from India aswell so we never really had big Christmas traditions like other families.", She concluded, her voice hesitant.
"Your father was from India?"
" Well actually his side of the family are Americans but my father spent his first 19 years in India with his uncle and aunt in Dehradoon and later he spent 5 more years in Kolkata at his first job, where he met mom. He later moved back to Chicago with mom, when Grandpa fell ill." Diana explained.
"You know I hardly remember any traditions of my family either, we stopped celebrating when Louise left and to be honest this is the first time after so many years that I have come close to celebrating."
"Today decorating the tree, wrapping gifts with you and these kids, it feels so right, perhaps this could be our Christmas tradition", Diana said, her eyes glinting from the Christmas lights, her voice fervent, hardly restraining her happiness.
"I like the sound of that", smiled Ethan.
"Our Christmas Traditions".....
25th December,2020, 12:01a.m.
The minutes of waiting had passed and the hour of the birth of Christ had arrived. Completely to the unawared state of the two doctors so in love.....
They sat under the gleam of the Yuletide lights, enraptured by the wonder of the other, their love intoxicating them more than any alcohol ever could, when all of a sudden Diana broke out of the revery with a gasp. "Merry Christmas Ethan", she said as she handed him something square, wrapped with red paper with white snow flakes, "Open it", she said. With a chuckle at her excited tone Ethan tore the paper to reveal a leather bound note book. As he quizzically looked at Diana, she explained, "It's been ten years since you wrote Diagnostic Principles and since then we have encountered so many cases that had been previously deemed incurable but we found cures for them. I thought it was a good enough time for you to write another book to inspire another generation of diagnosticians, I have already stored documents of Naveen's sepsis, Maitotoxin cure and Caroline's case. I just thought you would appreciate it. Afterall I would never have met you if I hadn't read your book....". "Rookie, this is amazing", he pulled her towards him by the lapels of her coat and kissed her, trying to convey all his thoughts with that one kiss. As they broke apart Ethan took out a box from his pocket and set it before her. With thinly veiled excitement she opened the box to find a silver charm bracelet with three charms hanging from it. Ethan took out the bracelet and put it around her wrist, while saying, "Each charm symbolizes a step in our relationship, the stethoscope charm is for our first meeting when you shouted that you are a doctor, the Miami charm is for the time when I first realised how far I had fallen for you and the skiing charm marks the time we spent at the ski lodge, when I realised that I wanted this, I wanted us and I'll keep adding a charm for every step we take for us, Merry Christmas Rookie, I love you"
Perhaps for the first time in her life of almost twenty nine years, Diana Ramirez had been rendered speechless.
That a person can do something for her was beyond her imagination.
That Ethan Ramsey had finally moved past his insecurities was beyond her imagination.
That Ethan Ramsey loved her was beyond her imagination....
Diana dropped the empty jewellery box and threw her arms around his neck, capturing his lips in an all consuming kiss, the world faded around them, they were transferred from the sterile halls of Edenbrook, away from the smell of antiseptics, away from the constant sense of life and death urgency, away from all the things that had ever defined them, the feel of their lips on each other, the feel of his hands in her hair, the feel of her hands around his necks, the pounding of their hearts beating as one, were the only real things. The two lost souls had found their home in each other's embrace and some where far far away the tunes of a distant melody could be heard, "Christmas eve will find me, where the lovelight gleams. I'll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams".............
A/N: I added some of Diana's background in the fic. I didn't want her to stray far from my background and I wanted her to be part Indian because her FC is me. This is how I imagine Ethan and Diana's first Christmas as a couple, to be like. Please tell me if you liked it in the comments and here's wishing y'all a very Merry and safe Christmas🌲🎅🦌

THE GREAT ND REWATCH OF 2021 / SEPTEMBER 28-29, 2019 // the bonny scot
posting this a day later than normal because this is one of the rare episodes that shows a passage of time from one day to the next yayy love that for them
-wonder what filming these beginning sexy scenes is like for them in real life
-sooooo can lucy see nancys sexy dream? is she judging? does this mean she likes nancy with owen or nick more? or is she trying to tell nancy that her sex dreams are irrelevant to the mystery at hand and she needs to focus?
-seeing people in the ✨prison chair✨: gomber, carson, karen (voting for josh s3 just saying)
-completely ignores carson's question about herself typical nance
-"or maybe i did stumble across a knife" its like hes trying to make the case against him look plausible while attempting to maintain innocence. this is a slippery slope for carson to try and encourage her to keep her pacified + hide the truth while also trying to keep her from getting involved bc hudsons
-"genetics gets you in the door" aaaaand then she walks in to everetts office to meet him and crashes their family dinner
-ok who tf is dawn and why is she in charge here
-this guidance counselor of nicks is my favorite person
-"i admire your allergy to pleasantries" bess and nancy both have reveals to big families but nancy does not have the graceful, accepting reveal to her rich family like bess does at this lunch. nancys reveal is messy, cold, bloodstained and sticky-fingered, not nice in any way whatsoever. and this little chat with everett (bit of a parallel to lucy's) just highlights how nancy is always bad at bargaining with her grandparents*- always trying to fight on their level but giving up her equal hand bc she doesnt know how to hide it when they bring up something she doesnt know. like confronting celia at the masque: she was so confident with her theory and what she knew, but then we got a "what does that mean?" like. the instant you say that, you lose. and she walked right into the "yes i do have someone, hes in jail" 🤦🏼‍♀️ even in the car with ryan at the end of s1, he literally just fucking leaves her there. like 🤷🏼‍♀️ what did u think was gonna happen sis?? for all she can predict how past things lead to present circumstances shes fucking awful at seeing the direct future *(grandparents except for patrice bc her dementia makes her inaccessable)
-lmaooooo this awko ass portrait...i get the empty space is for nance but who on earth thought this was a good pic??
-LISBETH 🥺💙
-"will u help the claw for me?" george struggles financially to keep her livelihood while nancy is somehow shown as being taken care of even when her parent is incarcerated; both nancy and george live in single parent homes now with mention of both medical debt and george being breadwinner yet nancy has no struggles while george does. (i wonder if ryan had been able to help george here how the story would have changed)
-"when it comes to following people around without their knowledge or consent i am somewhat of a repeat offender" 😂😂😂
-"he wasnt endgame after all" BESS lmaoooo
-"...okay." lmaoooo i fuckin love owen
-i was hoping the girls' faces would be more shocked like with a glance to owen but they just....werent
-"we're the good guys" <---- this statement is soooo interesting in terms of how they structure the show and how the characters see themselves (its an interesting contrast with the more definitive good vs evil with things that are both clearly good and clearly evil but theres also a lot of moral grey area here, the show is kinda swamped in it. are nancy and crew the good guys? are they the bad guys in someone else's story? concerns.)
-"i'd call it more than just stuff" like why did u concede that??? and then the shit about oof that didnt sound like a compliment lmaoooooo why does she suck at arguing?? she and owen wouldnt work long term bc theyre so similar (as mentioned later on)
-i LOVE george slowly falling in love with nick here- hence how upset she gets when nick bails on her for nancy later (which is totally justified!!!)
-i am LIVING for the little nod this driver guy gives bess when she turns back around all nervous 😂
-"i do like buying things" i would so say that too tbh
-"you'd have plenty to talk about" LMFAOOOOOOO SHE KNOWS "marvins dont marry drivers" so diana is totally fine with the gay its just the poor she has a problem with 😂💙fuckin love that
-love how nancy just casually ruins everything for nick/george lmaooo
-"i have seen you at your best, nancy, and there is nothing like it." 🥴😳 i love this still-in-love look nancy gives him thats so strong he had to change the subject
-so is haunting time 11 pm? from that clock of bashiir's?
-how do NO neighbors notice this fucking water and shit
-these are TOTALLY AWFUL fake screams from the bonny scot crew 😭
-"i know well enough not to get involved when he's in play" both carson and ryan avoid engaging with everett even though nancy is willing to do so armed with less info and more balls/ but "could i trust him" and ryan says yes lmaooooo NO honey + that makes ryan 0/2 for helping the girls when they ask this ep
-"find a project of your own" and he does, with his youth center 🙏🏻💙 what s2 foreshadowing!
-"god i wish i still drank" 😂😂😂
-"she is darling." 💙👌🏻
-okay wtf is mirror bay??
-i really wonder about the extent of celia x sebastians relationship here. did she truly care about him or was it just secret and exciting sex? also would love more hints of diana vs celia moments like these. celia doesnt even look upset. i mean shes had time to deal but like wtf. and who exactly is sebastian to diana? not her husband? like damn what if he was. somehow i doubt she'd talk about him diddling celia if diana was disrespected also
-i wonder if celia being so invested in dna testing nancy was bc everrett dna tested ryan to make sure he was his bc of sebastian / other men (which would be totally valid on his part!! but wouldnt it be funny as fuck if ryan wasnt his 😂)
-what a neat hiding place in this frame lmaooo who put that in for them tho? like how do u go about ordering that
-"you certainly are your fathers daughter" this quote is doubly ironic and foreshadowy bc theyre referencing carson here as being a useful hudson attaché but nancy is playing everett just like ryan played celia about putting his house up (but TRIPLY ironic bc carson pulls off the long con of hiding nancy from the hudsons right under their noses this whole time!) the one time nancy is successful against them
-that bess/lisbeth look while lisbeth does something badass (+diana reassessing now that lisbeth has been revealed to be useful)
-"almost as fun as a real fight" why do i believe him? lmaoooo a bit weird that he would enjoy a fight w a partner, but i also think this is an acknowledgement of nancy being an "opponent" who exists at his level. but i also love the "let me take you out" as a direct mirror of her relationship with nick, where she avoids the public acknowledgment/"going out" but prefers the more subtle/hidden arrangements of staying in. but as shown with later eps, owen is way more capable of meeting nancy where shes at, which is so important to her + the only way of getting close to nancy. (the only foil is ace who somehow is able to do both)
-"not always about a guy" <---- this could have been such a powerful statement if the show had thought having nancy end up alone/choose herself instead of pitting her between love interests (nick, owen, gil, even potentially ace, in only 2 seasons) was a more worthy stance to take ; as an aro/ace person i cant tell you how much i would kill to see just one female protag choose herself over a man. and its more realistic to end up alone than have a happy ending anyway, for all that these shows try to be as "real" and gritty grimdark as possible
-"is that what you want?" this is an interesting question to his mother- like maybe he senses her unhappiness? combined with his issues with his father- still trying to look out for his mom? either way it's sweet. (it could also potentially work as foreshadowing of something happening to her, but i think that was played with but then diverted when it was revealed who really killed her) "i think its time i steer this ship" still kind of patriarchal tho. i get that its him coming into his own as a dad technically but still. i also like how he calls her "mother" and not mom
-love that old white people thumbs up at george asking about his clams 👍🏻
-okay fuck dawn tho lmfaoooo
-"stressful dinner huh?" 😂 i fucking love lisbeth so much why didnt they bring her back (wouldnt it be Fucking Hilarious if they brought lisbeth back to bounce bess on her expired visa since the marvins kicked her out and didnt fix it lmaoooooo)
-BESS IS A TOP lmaooooooo i fuckin knew it
-nick says "you can pay me back" wonder if thats gonna come back in s3 considering their "marital problems" (also, those bonds are sosus lmfaoooo if any single person cashing those was looked at sideways they'd confess in 2 seconds that some random guy is handing out bearer bonds they dont even make anymore with absolutely zero proof as to how he got them)
-"you wanna finish what you started?" 👀 (dont mind if i do)
-"i need my dad back" parallels s2 when she asks him to come home
-parent politics: "you are taking your life in your hands / no, i'm putting it in yours" vs "i know well enough not to get involved when hes in play" both carson and ryan try to dissuade nancy from pursuing her pulling this con on everett but go about it different ways: carson is wildly concerned with nancys physical wellbeing but ryan appears to be leaning more towards weighing the odds for her/ like a "you cant win so cut your losses/dont try" scenario which interestingly might have more weight with nancy; its easy for her to brush aside carson's worrying like second nature but nancy has been established to be a determined winner, and ryan speaks to her here like shes a beginners luck prodigy at a blackjack table by encouraging her to keep her record clean by not dealing in this next round. of course she herself admits shes incapable of not dealing in ie "you know me better than that" but i have lots more thoughts on how effective ryans approaches to nancy can be sometimes (saving for the reveal ep 🙏🏻)
-wonder what all carson knows about the hudsons? + that look on his face when he hangs up... wonder if he was just lying to her about knowing anything or just ashamed at having to admit bad things hes done for them
-love nick & bashiir waiting together 🙏🏻💙+ nicks very strong and pointed "good night" as a means of ending his convo w nancy on his terms (gotta reinforce those boundaries man!)
and lastly
-celia + that gossip girl moment when she just throws the whole phone away 😂(wonder if she was just talking to "gus" or whoever that guy was. keep forgetting the bobbseys' dad is in prison too, wonder if he'll feature in s3)

AWAE 2x7 rewatch: thoughts and reactions
This was pretty much my favourite episode of the entire series before season 3 came along, so I’m really excited to watch it again. Let’s dive in:
Ok, that was a really weird (and short) cold open. I don’t really know what to say. Moving on.
Seriously, what just happened to Marilla? And how often has it been happening?
Yeah, as if Phillips would give extra lessons to anyone but Prissy. Also, Gilbert is right about him not caring much about teaching. People like Phillips have no place being teachers.
Bringing up Gilbert’s father, whose passing I’m pretty sure he’s aware of? How dare he? I hate that dirt-bag excuse of a man.
Oh, you’re going to the ball, dear Cinderella... I mean, you are going to the party, dear DiAnne! And you’ll be bringing someone else, too.
Speaking of someone else, poor Cole is still struggling with his art after Billy’s horrendous deed. Emotionally, mostly. But burning his drawings is not the answer. Never.
‘Cole is a man!’ Yes he is, that’s what I’ve been saying for I don’t know how long now. I’m glad someone’s finally noticed. I’ve got to say this scene reminded me a tiny bit of HP and the Goblet of Fire where Ron finally realised Hermione was a girl. But it’s different. In a good way, of course.
I love their, well, Anne’s, plan so much. I just do and I don’t really know why. But Marilla’s worsening headaches and her calling Matthew ‘Michael’ are worrying me so much. The Cuthberts do have their own trauma, they do. It seems everyone does in this series.
Of course Matthew allows it. In Matthew we trust. They’re going! Of course, I knew they were, but that doesn’t make it any less exciting. See, that’s the thing about favourites - they make you feel the same emotions every time that they did the first time you experienced them. And isn’t that the most wonderful thing?
Marilla seems to be reminded of her own childhood and how she didn’t have the chance to experience such wonderful things as Anne gets to. But Anne’s had her share of traumatic experiences. She deserves this.
Hero is right. Cole is one and he’ll get back to his art soon enough. And he’s just arrived in what will end up being his new home thanks to the amazing Aunt Josephine.
Anne’s finally realised what Josephine had with Gertrude and her reaction is absolutely lovely. I knew it would be. In fact, I knew it the very first time I watched it. Here’s a note I wrote to myself all the way back then: Anne is so open- minded and finds it all but strange that aunt Josephine had a romantic relationship with Gertrude, while Diana’s conservative upper-class upbringing seems to get in her way of accepting it… but she’ll get around to it. What I really would like, however, is that Cole would eventually come out to Anne first, I mean they confide in each other in  a way few others do, and she’s, at least the way I see it, the best person to come out to considering how she views Josephine and Gertrude’s relationship.
The party looks so beautiful, it makes me want to draw it. I probably will - just like I did last week with Diana the magnificent fairy queen. This show is so inspiring. In fact, my first ever drawing that I posted here was based on this episode and this party. Here’s a link: https://pluviophile-bookworm.tumblr.com/post/187379899979/i-dont-really-draw-but-i-was-just-rewatching-my  Hey, this also means I’ve seen this episode more times than any other AWAE episode! It’s clearly my favourite - well, now it’s second to 3x5, but we’ll see what happens when I rewatch that one.
‘If it were agreeable to my husband’... poor Diana really needs more of her aunt’s influence. How lovely it would be for her to become a pianist... or a scholar, or what she desires. Not necessarily a wife unless it’s to someone she truly loves and who truly loves her.
The girl with the pixie cut who complimented Anne’s might have just made her day. At least it would have made mine.
If these people calling Cole ‘farm boy’ did something good, it must have been decorating him with their scarves and pearls. I love this look on him.
If not pixie-cut girl, Sunflower-man made Anne’s day and I’m so glad something finally did. If someone could only tell her how beautiful she looks...
I feel like I would have loved Gertrude if I had known her... and that woman who said she and Jo were her romantic ideal... there should be more like her in the world.
Josephine and Cole dancing together warms my heart so much! And what warms it even more is knowing they’ll be a family, a loving, beautiful found family as they both deserve. I’m not crying, you are.
Poor Marilla is still struggling with her past and her headaches, and Matthew is trying to do the best he can to help, but there’s not much to be done when one refuses to be helped. And dear Matthew seems to have trauma of his own. ‘Doesn’t she love us too?’ Heartbreaking.
Marilla’s thinking of Anne like a true mother, and though it breaks my heart when she says ‘I won’t be a burden to Anne.’, it also warms it to think she feels so responsible for her new daughter.
I wish dear Diana would be more accepting of her aunt...s. I suppose they were both her aunts in a way. In their own way they were married after all.
The artist who reassures Cole means so much to me for it. And the way she seems to know Anne after only having met her for a while... also, ‘Cole the artist’ - yes, he is that. I love that woman although I don’t even know her. She made Cole smile for the first time this evening.
I’m just imagining Anne in her puff sleeves and a top hat... magnificent. I might try to draw that sometime.
Oh, Diana, just because something is kept secret doesn’t mean it’s wrong! It might just be that people aren’t ready for it yet, and I’m sad for the people. Not for Jo and Gertrude. Not for Cole. For those who aren’t ready to accept that love is love in all shapes and forms.
‘broken, defective, unnatural...’ is that what Cole thinks about himself? I so hope it’s not. And I so hope he finds a man someday who makes him feel like Jo and Gertie had. He deserves it.
Here’s a note on this next moment from the time I saw it first:  Oh my, oh my! He came out to Josephine first! I think it’s just as beautiful as had it been Anne, and the way he spoke of it to Anne and Diana first, although he didn’t confess anything, was so beautiful, deep and meaningful. Seriously, the way this series portrays things that are ahead of their time in the chronological context of the plot... that is so beautiful that I can’t even describe it… Anne with an E is my aesthetic… and one of the reasons I rediscovered my fondness of the colour orange which I previously disliked… just… so deep and aesthetically elevating. Ok, that last part had nothing to do with Cole or Josephine or coming out, but it’s truly what I think and it belongs here.
Matthew finally speaks up and it’s so powerful when a quiet person raises their voice. ‘She had other children. We all lost Michael.’
‘You missed me?’ But of course she did, she’s your mother now. I love the found family trope. And Marilla looks lovely with that flower crown.
‘[Love] can come in so many forms.’ This series teaches the proper values. I love it for that. #renewannewithane
‘The good doctor’. However demeaningly this was meant to be, it describes Gilbert so perfectly, and his response (‘and I managed to learn that with no extra time from you.’) was so absolutely great. Thanks, I love it.
‘You’ll get there, if you know where your passions lead you.’ That was a beautiful underrated Shirbert moment.
The pen of possibility. How lovely. This episode ended on just the right not and it’s just such a favourite of mine, I don’t even know what more to say. let’s just end here. Roll the recaps.
Let’s sum up: Marilla has headaches and flashbacks; Anne’s pen of duplicity concocts the perfect lie... fib; Cole struggles to get back into art; ‘Cole is a man!’ and so he and Anne and Diana get to go to Aunt Josephine’s party; Josephine and Gertrude are a romantic ideal; the perfect summer soiree in the middle of winter; Cole the farm-boy goes back to being Cole the artist thanks to a mysterious sculptor woman at the party; he comes out to Josephine, then to Anne and Diana; love is beautiful in every shape and form; the good doctor shoots for the stars on his own, thank you very much, Phillips (not!); the pen of possibility.

careful man’s careless daughter
@philtstone prompted: Anne/Gilbert babysitter au fake dating prompt #5 let’s go laydees “you have the emotional capacity of a brick. that slate I broke over  your head.” (we’re pretending people still use slates now....american schools have no money...its possible ok)
k so i was trying to figure out how to work in the babysitter + fake dating and ... like a flash the plot to this old telugu/tamil movie i love missamma/missaimaa came to mind -- its not quite the same because they’re two people pretending to be married so that they can make money as school teachers/live in tutors for a wealthy family’s daughter but it works just enough that i decided to roll with it lol.
this technically isn’t the actual babysitting, nor the fake dating which I actually turned into a fake marriage lol, but i hope u still like it, even though it is all over the place and a general wreck because i wrote it straight through without any editing or thought towards pacing/characterization bc i havent written in forever lol!! im not even sure what the time period setting is lol, and i dont think my translating of the anne events into a semi modern day even works but w/e lol.
u are the truest of friends, the light of my life, and have certainly heard more than your share of my mental breakdowns both in the last month and the last few years lol. u deserve all the good things, all the good fic, all the time.
title is a perversion of a tswift lyric because it came up on youtube. if anyone wants to send in prompts from here
---
“You owe him how much?”
Anne sighs, crossing her legs to hide how uncomfortable she is in this moment -- here she is in the park, fifteen thousand dollars plus interest in medical debt for Marilla’s eye surgery and being hounded by Roy Gardner, ex boyfriend apparently turned loan shark who was on his knees proclaiming both love and loan forgiveness should Anne just accept his proposal.
Here Gilbert Blythe is, sitting on a park bench after two years without contact, watching the whole thing.
“Marilla doesn’t have health insurance,” Anne says, eyes on the ground as she uses the toe of her shoe to grind a leaf into the sidewalk cement. “Even when I was teaching, the union plan didn’t let people add parents on as dependents.” She sighs. “With everything happening with the farm, she couldn’t afford to put money towards a plan and so when her eyes got bad....”
For a moment, there is silence. Anne can almost hear Gilbert’s jaw clench “That’s just wrong.”
Anne laughs, and because her eyes are averted she doesn’t see Gilbert flinch. “That’s America, Blythe.”
“Well,” she hears him say, tone just dripping with what Mrs. Rachel would call the Blythe Stubbornness, “It shouldn’t be.”
She won’t ever admit it, but there’s something Anne has always found deeply compelling about Gilbert when he gets into these moods -- all righteously indignant in a way that Anne feels inside of her own body. Or felt, before Matthew died and left behind debts not even Marilla had known about, and Marilla’s eyes worsened around the the time Anne was let go from her teaching job and even if she had had the job it wouldn’t have mattered, she knows, but still. Beautiful, wonderful, beloved Diana had offered to help, of course she had, but Anne knew that Fred’s business wasn’t yet where it should be and that the parents Barry were still unimpressed with their son in law to be’s financial acumen. So she’d had to go to Roy, who had of course lent his beautiful Anne the money, and of course had arranged for Marilla to be treated at the best hospital in Toronto, of course had set them up in the apartment of a friend of his right in downtown where the rents were a thousand maybe two per month. He’d popped the question for the third time the second Marilla had been released back into Anne’s care.
Almost as if he can hear her thoughts, Gilbert speaks -- “Gardner shouldn’t be harassing you like this either. Who ever heard of charging interest on a loan to a friend? And what on earth does he think he’s going to take from you if you just don’t pay?”
Anne burns. This, she hasn’t told Marilla, nor even her darling Diana. For some reason, it seems alright to tell Gilbert. “The farm,” she mumbles.
Gilbert snorts. “I’m sorry, I must have misheard. Are you saying that Roy Gardner, heir to one of the biggest fortunes in Boston and your ex boyfriend, took your home as collateral on a loan for money you needed to pay for your mother’s surgery?”
Anne says nothing. She still hasn’t looked up at him, hasn’t been able to meet his gaze since she sat down on the bench and told Roy to get up off his knees and wait two months for either his money or her affirmative answer. She blinks, having mercifully forgotten that Gilbert was present for that last bit. She hopes he’s forgotten too.
“And wait, before he left you said....” No such luck. “Anne!” Anne’s sure her entire head must be flame as she closes her eyes, bringing her knees up on the park bench and burying her face into her own lap. “Anne you said you’d marry him if you couldn’t get the money!”
“There’s no debt between spouses,” Anne mumbles. “We’d get to keep the farm, and I wouldn’t ever worry about Marilla’s health again.”
“But you don’t love him!” She doesn’t know if she’s ever heard Gilbert sound so scandalized.
“I used to!” she tries to retort, but even Anne knows that her voice betrays her when she tries to speak this lie. “I used to think I was,” she amends, “and maybe that’s as close as I’m allowed to get -- he’s rich, handsome, he even loves me! What more could I ask for?”
“Coercing you into marriage, demanding interest on money that we all know is just pocket change for someone like him...that’s not love,” Gilbert Blythe responds, with all that....that all-knowing Blytheness in his voice that Anne has hated since she was 13 years old and the new kid in a class of people who had always known each other just as easily as they had known themselves. “Love is selfless, Anne, strong and kind. It makes you better for giving away your heart, even if the one you love doesn’t give you theirs in return.”
Gilbert Blythe, always acting as if he knows something Anne does not. He speaks as if he’s been in love, at some point over the years since he was last in Avonlea and for some reason Anne absolutely burns with that knowledge. Ooh she just hates him, now at 24 just as easily as she had at 13!
“And what exactly is love worth if it means I just lose the farm trying to pay for Marilla’s surgery, and still have nothing for the next time she’s sick?” Suddenly Anne is on her feet, hands on her hips as she glares at Gilbert looking quite alarmed as he still sits on the bench. The words she has kept locked on the inside, too private to even be written in a diary, come pouring out in one big rush:
“Three of my four parents are already dead, Gilbert Blythe.” Her voice hitches, to her horror, her sudden fury vanishes as she has to blink away the tears she has kept at bay since she and Marilla buried Matthew. Damn Gilbert, for bringing this out of her as well. “I can’t...I couldn’t bear to lose anyone else.” Her lips thin, and with a breath, her voice steadies. “I don’t care what you, or anyone else thinks about my choices if it means that I can take care of Marilla.”
Gilbert’s eyes have the sheen of his own tears when he stands, his own lips wobbling just slightly. “I...” he swallows. “Of course, Anne.” Something Anne recognizes as self hatred passes briefly over his face, but she doesn’t understand. “I wish I had money like Gardner to give you, I really do.”
Anne gentles, even if something inside her twists to be the object of the long-old guilt mixed with pity, much less Gilbert Blythe. Since Matthew’s death, every person in Avonlea it seems has sat with Anne and Marilla and offered their deep condolences, their absolute shock at the pair’s financial state of affairs, how much they wish they could help but sadly cannot, what with the way the bank’s collapse has hit their own finances. Only families like the Gardners survive economic crashes with money to burn.
“I wouldn’t have taken it even if you had,” she offers instead, shrugging casually.
His eyes flash. “But you took Gardner’s?”
“I thought he loved me!” Anne closes her eyes, somehow feeling her cheeks flush even deeper. This is why she’s avoided all mention of Gilbert Blythe so strenuously since high school graduation, because more than anyone else he is the one who drags out the words she is always learning to keep inside. Here he is, somehow pulling confessions Anne hadn’t even dreamed of telling Diana, confessions that make her seem small, and stupid, lost in a world so much more complicated and treacherous than she can handle all on her lonesome.
Well, she thinks, in for a penny --
“I thought he loved me,” she says, “and that he had the money to spare. I didn’t realize...” She looks away again, so that she never has to see him react to her folly.
“Oh Anne,” Gilbert says, for some reason so soft and stricken that Anne’s knees go weak with her sudden desire to fall to the ground and weep. “You deserve so much better.”
And now she’s angry again. “What would you know about what I deserve?” Anne spits, “you haven’t even been home since you started med school!” Vaguely, Anne thinks that Gilbert hasn’t been home since she and Roy had gotten serious, serious enough for her to bring him to Green Gables and show him the place that had been her very first love. Coincidences can be so strange.
“It doesn’t matter,” she says, glaring again at the ground. “None of this matters. I’m just going to go home” Anne clenches her jaw, knowing that when she gets back to Green Gables she will go into her room and play every excruciating part of this conversation back in her head, again and again until she throws up or passes out at dawn from sheer exhaustion. Maybe both, if she’s lucky. She leans back slightly and manages to turn around on her heels, a trick Gilbert Blythe had always pulled at school and had had girls thinking he was so cool.
She’s five minutes away from the park bench when suddenly she hears him call out her name.
“Anne,” he shouts again much closer, bending at his waist to balance his hands at his knees as he pants. “God, it really has been two years since I was on the university football team.”
Despite the roiling emotions of five minutes ago, Anne’s lips quirk. “I can’t imagine you all practiced very much to end up near the bottom of your league every year.”
Gilbert’s eyes widen, and for some reason he flushes. Maybe he’s so out of shape that it’s from exertion? “I didn’t realize you kept up with my matches.”  Ah. Anne, it seems, will experience nothing else but one long sustained flush as long as she is in front of Gilbert Blythe. “You know,” she tries to say casually, “you hear things here and there. Diana told me the village gossip.”
Gilbert opens his mouth, but then suddenly shakes his head, like a dog trying to dislodge water from its fur. “I have...” he frowns. “I have a proposition for you.”  Anne raises what she hopes is an elegant eyebrow. “Oh?”
He grimaces. “There’s a boarding school, a Catholic one, that’s asking for teachers over the summer for a few of their select students who want to be coached for college admissions. Essays, standardized tests, everything. They’ve got heaps of money, and are willing to pay salaries up front. Plus, they cover all your expenses while you’re there!”
Anne blinks, feeling the beginnings of hope gather as kindling at the very dredges of her heart. Once, both Anne and Gilbert had competed so well against each other that they had both gotten into Harvard. Then, Matthew had died, and Anne decided she could just as easily get a teaching degree at the state school and stay closer to Marilla too. Gilbert alone had had the distinction of being the first from Avonlea to reach such heights, and had reached even higher when he had been accepted again to Harvard Medical School.
But at one point, both Anne and Gilbert had taken their SATs. They’d both written their application essays. They’d both gotten in. Anne, even, had been offered a full ride compared to Gilbert’s only partial scholarship, so there could even be an argument that of the two, Anne had been the one on top.
And if nothing else, Anne is even better at teaching than she was at taking tests.
“I’ll do it,” she says firmly. “Where and when do I need to report, and how much money are they offering?”  For a second, a bright, dazzling grin paints Gilbert’s face. “Really? Ten--” he coughs, “Twenty thousand.” Anne frowns.
“Each?” It sounds like a dream come true. Five thousand more than Anne needs, and paid upfront. She could save the farm, and put away five thousand towards the farm’s debts. “That sounds....exorbitant.”  He nods, suddenly more confident. “Yep! Twenty thousand for sure.” He laughs. “I know Gardner was supposed to be slumming it at state school, but you really can’t be surprised at how much money rich people are willing to throw at a problem.”
“The problem being...their children.”  Gilbert’s grin turns wicked. “The problem being their children’s SAT scores, and lack of compelling anecdote to base an admission’s essay on, yes.”
Anne laughs, wicked in this moment as well. She wishes in this moment, fiercely, as she has many times over the last few years, that she had been able to go to university with Gilbert at her side -- as the friends they had slowly begun to be after years of one and two sided enmity, before time and distance had turned them into near strangers. She doesn’t regret staying back, not really, but there is a part of her that no one had ever understood half as well as Gilbert Blythe, who had, after the Harvard interest meeting, drawn and pinned up a schedule for practice SATs that took into account both his and Anne’s often conflicting life schedules.
“What’s the catch,” she asks, grinning when Gilbert chokes “come on, Blythe, there’s always a catch with offers like this. Is it across from a waste manufacturing plant? Is the principal a pervert?”
Slowly, Gilbert Blythe is turning red. “Ah,” he says, shuffling like he never did even when he was an errant schoolboy. “Well,” he says, and....is that his voice cracking?
“Gilbert,” Anne says, trying to reassure him, “I grew up in the foster system, I can handle much worse than bad smells and pervert principals, I promise.”
He frowns. “It’s not that,” he says slowly, “but basically they’re looking for two teachers, a man and a woman to manage the boys and the girls while the rest of the staff go on vacation.”
Anne smiles, trying to ignore the jolt of her heart at the thought of an entire summer with Gilbert, studying like they used to but as friends. Her old dreams, finally coming true. “That’s perfect then, you take one job and I’ll take the other! It’ll be like old times, kind of.”
He smiles faintly, as if, even after locking horns with the best and brightest at Harvard, Anne is still the person he wants to be trading barbs with over the heads of high school students for months on end. “I’d like nothing better, he says, except...”
“Except?”
Gilbert inhales. “ExceptTheSchoolWillOnlyHireAMarriedCoupleSoThatTheyDon’tHaveToWorryAboutOutofWedlockSexorTeachersHavingSexWithStudents.” All in a rush, and now Gilbert is the one who can’t apparently handle eye contact.
“What?”
“The school,” Gilbert says to his shoes, “since it’s Catholic, and also since they’re lazy, only want a married couple so that they don’t have to have anyone watching to make sure the teachers aren’t having sex with the students. Or each other.”
Anne blinks. “But we’re not married!”
Gilbert grimaces, opening his mouth, but then just biting his lip. They could be, Anne thinks, only a tad hysterical. Only all of Avonlea was matching them up all the years of high school, and even the years after until she’d met Roy. It would be so easy to get a certificate. They could get a divorce by September, even annul their marriage since they definitely wouldn’t be having sex.
Twenty thousand dollars.
“So what you’re saying,” Anne says slowly, her lip curling of its own accord “is that after all that talk about what love is and isn’t, and telling me that I shouldn’t marry Roy for the money he’d give me, your blockheaded solution is instead, for me to marry you?”
Gilbert looks up. “Well when you put it that way--”  Anne sees red, even as she already sees herself in one of her old white lace dresses, standing with Gilbert at the courtroom and signing. “Gilbert Blythe I don’t believe you! Sometimes, I think that you really do have all the emotional capacity of that slate I broke over your head!”
“I know,” he says tone heavy with something so sad that Anne’s hearten softens a bit of its own accord. “But you really need the money, and I promise we’ll get a divorce by September.” He smiles, but there’s something bitter at the corners that Anne has never seen before -- she almost raises her hand to rub the strand of emotion off his lips. “And you’re not the only one who needs the money. Will you do it?”
Twenty thousand dollars. The farm, Marilla, an end to the eternal pity of Avonlea. And also, a small part of her suggests, an opportunity to finally spend time with this new Gilbert Blythe who went off into the world and left her behind.
She sighs. “I vote that you be the one to tell Mrs. Lynde.”

Andrew Davies on Les Miserables: ‘I’m rescuing it from that awful musical’
Give Andrew Davies a piece of classic literature and he will show you the erotic desires and deep-rooted anxieties that lurk beneath. Think of the passions he unleashed in the nation’s living rooms when he sent Mr Darcy for a dip in his full-blooded 1995 adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, or the consternation he provoked when he inserted a spot of incest into War and Peace in 2016.
Yet even to Davies, a new adaptation of Les Misérables – which he claims “will rescue Victor Hugo’s novel from the clutches of that awful musical with its doggerel lyrics” – posed a challenge. Perhaps the biggest question was how to represent the sexuality of its two principal characters: Jean Valjean, the prisoner who breaks his parole (played by Dominic West); and his nemesis, Javert (David Oyelowo) the policeman who hounds him until the end of his days.
Over tea in central London, Davies tells me that he was surprised to discover that, in Hugo’s 1862 novel, neither character mentions any sort of sexual experience, leaving the 82-year-old screenwriter wondering, at least in the case of Javert, whether it was indicative of a latent homosexuality.
“His obsession with Jean Valjean represents a kind of perverse, erotic love,” Davies says. He doesn’t stop there. In capturing the febrile atmosphere of post-Napoleonic France, he also shows how the innkeeper’s daughter Eponine (Erin Kellyman) expresses her desire for the earnest student Marius (Josh O’Connor).
“One of the best things Hugo does is to have Eponine tease Marius with her sexiness because he is a bit of a prig,” says Davies. “So I have introduced a scene where Marius, even though he is in love with Cosette [Valjean’s adopted daughter], has a wet dream about Eponine and feels rather guilty about it. I think it fits into the psychology of the book.”
Another problem that needed solving was Cosette, “a pretty nauseating character in the book”, whom Davies has made “strong and optimistic, rather than just an idealised figure who doesn’t add anything at all.” In the past, he has spoken about how he has turned the more saccharine depictions of 19th-century womanhood he has found on the page into women with the power “to disconcert men”, by injecting into them a little of his own mother’s character. I ask if she also makes her presence felt in Les Misérables. “I don’t think so. Was she like Madame Thénardier?” he wonders, referring to the sometimes violent innkeeper’s wife, here played by Olivia Colman. “No, that would be awful. Although she was quite keen on smacking people. The women in this book are not terribly complicated.”
I suggest that this might not sit well with modern viewers. “Well, I suppose Fantine goes on one hell of a journey,” says Davies, effecting a cod-American accent. “She develops a sort of animal ferocity and that is all because of how she has been treated.”
Davies’ childhood sounds rosy by comparison. No sooner had he started at his Cardiff grammar than he wrote a naughty poem about two of the modern language teachers, which went around the whole school in samizdat. He recites it for me:
He kissed her, she kissed him
back.
He took her knickers off and put
them in a sack.
She took his underpants and put
them in her bag.
He said: “Excusez-moi, but may I
have a shag?”
After that, his writing career settled into a slow burn. He studied English at University College London, then moved to Kenilworth, where he met his future wife, Diana Huntley (they have been married since 1960 and have two children) and began teaching literature at the Coventry College of Further Education. He wrote the odd TV play and a whole host of radio scripts – sadly, now all deleted. One 1972 play about wife swapping, Steph and the Single Life, received complaints from those who denounced it as “obscene, disgusting rubbish”.
More solid success came to Davies in the Eighties, most notably with his greatest original work, A Very Peculiar Practice, based on his experiences at Warwick. Heavy on existential gloom, it concluded with the campus being sold to a private American company, which turned it into a defence research base. Never has a series ended to quite such a peal of mirthless laughter and its extraordinary scheduling (9pm on BBC One) was, thinks Davies, a mistake.
At that point, it was hard to imagine that Davies would, a few years later, be the person to turn costume drama into sportive heritage TV. His Middlemarch came first, in 1994, and was followed 18 months later by Pride and Prejudice, one of the most popular TV series of all time. I wonder how he feels about Nina Raine’s forthcoming small-screen adaptation.
“I am very excited about it,” he says. Then he adds, “even though I wish her all the best, I hope it’s not as popular as my one. It gives me so much pleasure when people say, ‘I was feeling rotten and so I just went to bed and put on Pride and Prejudice’. People use it to get over bereavements – I’m better than a priest!”
This is not arrogance. Davies may be sharp, naughty and ironic, but he is embarrassed by anyone who makes a fuss over him. He worries that this month’s documentary about his work, Rewriting the Classics, is “a bit effusive”, and he seems too pragmatic to be affected by writerly insecurity. Is he sensitive?
“I am much less sensitive than I used to be. I remember being cast down when I had a play that went to Broadway,” he says, referring to 1980’s Rose, which starred Glenda Jackson as a schoolteacher and closed after only 68 performances. “Column after column was spent saying how terrible it was. I couldn’t eat solid food for a week.”
He had a similarly bruising experience with the film industry. A decade ago, Davies admitted that he was disappointed that his movie career had not been more buoyant (Bridget Jones’s Diary was a rare success). Talking to me now, however, he is more sanguine.
“And that’s because the writer is king in TV. In film, all the stories that people say, that they pay you a lot of money and treat you like s---, are true in my experience. I have been sacked from several movies without being told. You meet someone at a party and you say you are working on a picture and they’ll laugh and say, ‘No, you’re not.’ It’s not terribly nice.”
Two more Davies adaptations will be shown next year – of Austen’s fragment, Sanditon, and of Vikram Seth’s epic A Suitable Boy. He would love to adapt more 19th-century classics (Dickens’s Dombey and Son and Trollope’s The Barchester Chronicles are top of his list) but before that, we can look forward to his version of the Rabbit Angstrom novels by John Updike, an author whose perceived misogyny might not seem an obvious fit in today’s cultural climate.
“There are a lot of grim things said about Updike at the moment, but he is a wonderful observer of how we all behave,” says Davies. “I don’t think writers are there to be role models, they are there to say what the world is like from their point of view.”
If the number of irons he has  in the fire makes it sound as though Davies is spreading himself too thinly, he displays an air of toughness despite his advancing years and a recent double hip replacement. “I don’t feel old. I had my one-year check-up yesterday and my surgeon pronounced that he was pleased with his work. My hips are good for another 10 years.”
As well as his prolific adapting, I wonder whether Davies has the desire to tell the story of his own life. “I really ought to,” he says. “I would like to start with my parents’ lives, in the early days of their marriage, because something went wrong there.” I ask why and Davies lowers his voice almost to a whisper.  “I think it’s probably something to do with sex.”

New Senshi Generation: A Sailor Moon Fanfiction Spork
Hello all! I didn’t get my rear in gear to edit the next video for TodoBaku/BakuTodo, so we’re doing a new fic today!
Today’s fic comes to you from a reader submission! Thank you so much, @happysmilehello! (Not sure why it’s not letting me tag you...)
Now, I am by no means an expert at anything Sailor Moon. I watched maybe 30 episodes of the original (undubbed) anime way back in high school out of sheer curiosity. A lot of it didn’t stick with me. So! I brought on a Sailor Moon expert to help me with this, who also happens to be one of my very best friends! Thanks for all your help, @kittykatz009! All of that out of the way, let’s get started on New Senshi Generation!
============================================================
KittyKatz009 dont even get me started on how they changed the names in the 90s dub
WingSongHalo B U N N Y
KittyKatz009 any more questions before we get started on this wonderful fic
I WISH THEY WOULD HAVE JUST STUCK WITH BUNNY
WingSongHalo ah yes here is the link
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8050676/1/New-Senshi-Generation
KittyKatz009 okay. we are open
WingSongHalo wait they named her something other than Bunny? I forgot that
KittyKatz009 in the english dub her name was Serena
WingSongHalo OH YEAH
KittyKatz009 Usagi -- Serena Ami -- Amy Rei -- Ray Makoto -- Lita Minako -- Mina Mamoru -- Darien ChibiUsa -- Rini
WingSongHalo I like how Ami and Rei got to stay the same lksjdflk
KittyKatz009 just had to ~Americanize~ it
WingSongHalo yeah because schoolgirls wearing seifuku is totally American
KittyKatz009 you know okay. im already on paragraph 2 and have issues
WingSongHalo
The time is 30th Century Crystal Tokyo.
That really sounds more like a year, not a time. If I ask you for the time and you tell me that I'm gonna be pissed
Nobody would ask for a better ruler than her.
Hmm. Your wording, saying nobody WOULD and not nobody COULD, suggests that they are too intimidated to ask for more...
She had a beautiful daughter named Lady Serenity, but the kingdom knew her as ChibiUsa.
Poor little bastard.
She admired her so much that she wanted to be trainind by her.
She wanted to be what now?
She hated that name so much that she asked to be called Usagi.
Understandable.
KittyKatz009 okay so like. Shinta... who is your father? Also, Makoto didn't necessarily like picking fights. she would defend herself, yes. but it wasn't like she was going and picking fights with everyone and their mother. Like yes, I know Makoto got kicked out of her last school for being in a fight, but that does't mean she is a delinquent. this was a part of her entire fucking arc
WingSongHalo
Instead, she more likely to get away from trouble.
She also more likely to skip words in sentences? Hmmm thanks for this background info. So the author has a fundamental misunderstanding of a character's personality right out of the gate.
KittyKatz009 like, everyone was scared of Makoto when she came to school because they heard the rumors and Usagi is all like "damn she cute. let me be her friend" and then there were the bonus points of Makoto being a great cook and Usagi being a bottomless pit
WingSongHalo
but she truely hated it.
Know what I truely hate? People spelling truly like that
KittyKatz009 okay... Amari. you are a carbon copy of your mother jesus christ
WingSongHalo
She spent all of her time the nose in the books and truely believe that friends weren't a necessaty in life.
...there's so much wrong with this sentence that I don't know what to focus on. I think I'll pick "the nose in the books." Like, what nose? Whose? is it just some big-shnauzed person that everyone has nicknamed The Nose? Why are they imprisoning them in the books? What did they do to incur this punishment?
But unfortunatly, she was raised as a fighter.
Excuse you, being raised as a fighter is usually really beneficial for royalty
She had become the new Sailor V.
Wow, she was five of them all by herself?
When she saw the teacher enter the room, she thaught she had saw her before.
She what now
I will call out your name to take your presence.
Where are you taking it and what do you plan to do with it??
KittyKatz009 Actually, Sailor V was Venus's name before she went by Venus, so that one actually tracks
WingSongHalo huh... I understand nothing
Present mam.
Is that Present Mic's similarly-Quirked sister? If it's not, it is now.
I just hope that you won't be as much of a pain as she was.
Wow, this teacher is a real gem!!
Even if she is our gracefull Queen today, your mother truely gave me numerous headaches while under my teachings.
Shit, I'd be late to your class every day too if you talk that ungrammatically. Plus I would also have headaches. NUMEROUS headaches.
KittyKatz009 Sailor Venus awoke first out of the 5 of them, so her alias she went by when she was fighting crime by herself was Sailor V
WingSongHalo huh! So I guess she kind of was 5 all by herself!
KittyKatz009 lmao yeah okay so im stuck on the fact that the author has switched between 90;s english dub and the manga
WingSongHalo
No mam, I might be my mother's daughter, but I am not as clubsy as she was before.
I... assume this means she's not in any clubs?
But she knew, after what had happened, miss Haruna would call her mother.
??? Did I somehow miss something happening? She didn't do anything wrong, did she?
KittyKatz009 Haruna????
WingSongHalo no I mean why would the teacher call Usagi's mother? Usagi didn't do anything wrong
I am very resorsfull.
Then learn to read a dictionary, geez.
KittyKatz009 Im just SO CONFUSED like, they're in Crystal Tokyo now. why in the world would Ms. Haruna be there? She was from the 20th century
WingSongHalo
My mother is not all there sometimes.
I know this means "my mother isn't there all the time," but this wording definitely is Usagi calling her mother crazy aslkfjs;lkd Yeah they mention being in the 20th century?? it says "Usagi felt embarassed as she knew how her mother was in the 20th century. It was now the time to show how she was a lot more mature at her age." oh okay so that was the past
KittyKatz009 i mean, Chibiusa DID think her mom was crazy.
WingSongHalo Haruna is here from there I guess, as a fully-grown woman
KittyKatz009 but... Ms. Haruna was already a full grown woman in the 20th century... she was Usagi's teacher... CLUMSY. That's supposed to be clumsy. jesus
WingSongHalo yes it's supposed to be clumsy
KittyKatz009 okay lol
WingSongHalo and oh I see. So Haruna is just old now
KittyKatz009 Haruna would be fucking dust JESUS I WANT TO CALL YOU AND SCREAM
WingSongHalo laj;fsdlk I listened to a lot of loud crowds and stuff today so I would probably just panic if I heard screaming atm XD
KittyKatz009 not ACTUALLY scream lol but i know what you mean more like rant. bc im on the paragraph about the bad guy and I HAVE WORDS
WingSongHalo
I always spend time talking to all of my firends."
You always spend time talking to Firenze? What are you doing in the Forbidden Forest to begin with?? Not to mention that conversations with centaurs are hardly ever productive; you're probably wasting your time.
An new evil face had been awaken from it's deep sleep.
The new evil face is deep sleep apparently
KittyKatz009 I HAVE SO MANY ISSUES WITH THIS
WingSongHalo
She had long red hair covered by a light pink vail.
A light pink what now
Deep blue eyes and a long turquish blue dress.
Ah yes, Turquish, from the country of Tourquey. Say, won't you have some Tourquish Delight in the Tourquish Bath? Later we'll have some Thanksgiving Tourquey.
KittyKatz009 So you just add -ai to the end of Beryl's name and that's how you get your new villain's name???
WingSongHalo
She was the new Queen of the Negaverse.
All right what the hell is the Negaverse. Please tell me it's better than the Omegaverse
KittyKatz009 Negaverse was the 90's dub term for the Dark Kingdom Next, we have a continuation error. Endymion can't be both the King of Crystal Tokyo AND the Dark Prince. So either he be cheating on Usagi, or you're grasping at straws here for this one.
WingSongHalo
The second one was Cyrius, who controls the East and willed the power of ice. The thrid was general Tera, who controls the West and willed the powers of the earth. And finally, Tempest, who controls the Southern parts of the Underworld and controls the wind.
Mkay so these names are rooted in Greek and Roman Mythology so this leads me to believe that the author did not come up with these names by themself
KittyKatz009 that was what i was thinking too. and convenience was used
WingSongHalo Wait Endymion is with Usagi? Usagi Senior? Wouldn't that just make him Tuxedo Mask
KittyKatz009 Okay, Mamoru, aka Tuxedo Mask, is Endymion
WingSongHalo ah
KittyKatz009 Endymion was the protector of Earth who fell in love with the Moon Princess
WingSongHalo that sure is a lot of names for one person, but I guess it's pretty funny that his name literally means "to protect"
KittyKatz009 he was, for all intents and purposes, Sailor Earth lmao
WingSongHalo I WAS JUST THINKING THAT
KittyKatz009 SAME TERU BRAIN
WingSongHalo "all these dumb bitches writing Sailor Earth fiction... they had one all along"
KittyKatz009 there's so much lore getting messed up here it's ridiculous
WingSongHalo I'm so so glad I have you here to help me parse it all LOL I'd be totally ignorant about everything
KittyKatz009 also... CHIBIUSA IS ALREADY A SAILOR GUARDIAN. YOU CAN'T FUCKING RE-AWAKEN HER. SHE DIDN'T GET HER MEMORIES WIPED
WingSongHalo
" Diana, you have to wake the sleeping powers of the next generation of senshis.
Who the fuck is Diana???
KittyKatz009 Diana is Luna and Artemis's child
WingSongHalo We got fuckin Wonder Woman in here now? That would make sense, although not from a mythological perspective because Artemis and Diana are tHE SAME FUCKING GODDESS well relatively speaking there are of course differences between the Greek and Roman incarnations of the goddess
KittyKatz009 oh, so you took away her brooch. THAT DOESNT MEAN SHE ISN'T A GUARDIAN ANYMORE. SHE'S JUST ONE WHO IS USELESS
WingSongHalo
A new evil had arrived on Earth and they must be stopped. Now go! "
Gee mom, d'you think I could get a little more information first???
KittyKatz009 lmao oh believe me, I know all about Diana and Artemis, since I study both of them so... you LITERALLY have her wearing the same thing her mother wore. when she CANONICALLY HAS HER OWN OUTFIT THAT IS PINK
WingSongHalo
She has experience compared to the inner's daughter, who has none."
What the fuck is the inner. That sounds gross
KittyKatz009 I'm assuming they mean Sailor Venus's child.
WingSongHalo
Luna, are you sure that this is the right thing to do, she might not be able to take care of this by herself? " asks Artemis
You know what? The most irritating thing about this is that there's no description given to any characters except to give us a basic picture of new ones. If I didn't have a basic knowledge of Sailor Moon, it might be hard to remember that Artemis is a fUCKING TALKING CAT
KittyKatz009 i just finished the chapter and i am going to scream i mean, they have human forms too. but yeah, they are in their cat forms from what i gathered
WingSongHalo
You will give her the Moon Brooch and call her Sailo Moon."
I really don't think it works like that. You can't just subtract a letter and call it good oh he has a human form?? How come it's not on the Wiki?? I just looked at the gallery to see if there was one!!
KittyKatz009 because it was a manga only thing
WingSongHalo Ah I see
KittyKatz009 though, in the 2nd sailor moon movie, you do get to see Luna animated in her human form
WingSongHalo wait what the fuck why don't they even list his human form on the wiki under Manga info???
KittyKatz009 i have no idea
WingSongHalo STEP UP UR WIKI GAME, SAILOR MOON FANDOM
KittyKatz009 RIGHT
WingSongHalo It's not like they haven't had plenty of time to compile all the info!!
KittyKatz009 BUT FOR REAL THOUGH
WingSongHalo
Usagi was in her room trying to figure out a way to tell her mother about miss H.'s reaction about her in class.
??? I really don't get this. Usagi didn't do anything wrong; why does she need to tell her mother about it at all???
- What's this? Blue, I don't wear blue. Where the fuku that Pegasus gave us?" Usagi was now freaking out.
WHERE THE FUKU YOU GOING, PEGASUS
KittyKatz009 i have no idea. unless she is embarrassed that her mom is the reason Miss should be dead H has a negative opinion of her
WingSongHalo
Meanwhile, Berylia called out Cyrius and ordered her to steal as many humans as she could, so they could be corrupted to their cause.
Sure why not. Sounds just vague enough to work
She aggrees and leaves.
She what now
KittyKatz009 SPEAKING OF PEGASUS. SM CRYSTAL IS FINALLY GETTING THE 4TH SEASON THIS YEAR. WELL, IT'S THE MOVIE. BUT IT'S THE PEGASUS ARC
WingSongHalo
Her specialy were jewelry and was called madame Bijou.
Leave Hamtaro's girlfriend out of this.
She was now confident enough to capture alot of humans since their desire for shining and expensif jewels were enough to corrupt them.
I'm fucking dying at "expensif" alkjf;sdkljf
KittyKatz009 okay but like... THIS IS A FUCKING PLAY BY PLAY OF THE ORIGINAL.
the first villain Usagi fights is a monster who disguises itself as Naru's mom (Usagi's bff) who owns a jewelry store and had a 90% off sale
WingSongHalo
Don't miss the opportunity to buy your spouse's happiness."
Sounds legit!!!! lsjkdfdkj what the fuku
The day was a magnificent success.
God I wish that were me
KittyKatz009 im almost in tears from this fic. and it's only chapter 1
WingSongHalo
She saw a young human girl. She grabbed her by the neck and changed into her monster form.
OH NO, NOT A YOUNG HUMAN GIRL!! THOSE ARE THE LEAST FLAVORFUL(???)
KittyKatz009 THOSE ARE THE ONES WITH THE MOST ENERGY
WingSongHalo
- Who are you? Who sent you?"
You need to chill. You just said she's a young human girl. Why would the monster be suspicious of a young human girl? Did it sense something about her? Was she giving off a powerful amount of energy? Did she look familiar? GIVE US SOMETHING, AUTHOR
- Help me please... " as the young victim struggled for air.
that's me laughing at this fic oh wow lookee there! The author actually tries to describe a battle!! Points for effort! However... is this description another blow-by-blow, Jaz?
KittyKatz009 i feel like that's supposed to be a bad parallel to when the ORIGINAL monster held NARU like this and NARU'S cries for help are what made USAGI come save her why yes, yes it is
WingSongHalo ooooooof course
- My name is the Silver Masked Tuxedo. And it was a pleasure to be of help." as he left.
Oh shit, your Silver Moon might show up here yet
KittyKatz009 the only thing they left out was the fact that Usagi started bawling like a baby, and it got amplified, which stunned them before Tuxedo Mask arrived SILVER MOON IS MINE AND THIS AUTHOR CAN FUCK RIGHT OFF
WingSongHalo
Sailor Moon grabbed her tiara and used it to purify the corrupted humans and toast the monster.
Oh, lovely! Everyone loves a good toasted monster, roasted cozily over a campfire. A family favorite
Diana came by her side and ask if she was doing better, but all she had as an answer was babbling.
Well that's a mood.
KittyKatz009 WHY ARE YOU IN HIGH SCHOOL???
WingSongHalo Usagi was zoning out, remembering that really handsome man that just saved her.
It's probably her brother or something I mean if she's like an exact copy of her mom, this guy is an exact copy of their dad, right?? It's all falling into place,,,
KittyKatz009 the only thing i can see is that they bring Pegasus into the fic and that he is Silver Mask
WingSongHalo
- My name is Tsukino Usagi, Lady Serenity and Sailor Moon, all that being in high school and 15 years old. Hope tomorrow will be better.
Hope next chapter will be better.

Worst Changes Adaptations Made to the Anne Series
Disclaimer: These are just my opinions. Just because I think these things doesn’t mean they are true. In fact, I fully recognize that in the eyes of someone else these changes could be good.
Also, the order is random and not a reflection of how frustrating each thing is.
1. Anne going into a war zone with the intention of forcing Gilbert not to serve his country.
(The Continuing Story)
Anne and Gilbert are married. And yet, Kevin Sullivan decided to have Anne risk her life with the purpose of ignoring Gilbert’s wishes. What was she going to do if she found him before the war was over? He would have been pissed. All Sullivan had to do was wait until the war was over, have Gilbert be missing in action, and then Anne’s whole thing would have made sense.
2. Gilbert lacking loyalty.
(Anne with an E Season 2)
It really bothered me when Gilbert went back on his word to Sebastian. It just seemed out of character, not only for the Gilbert of the books but for the Gilbert of the show. I’m also not sure what point it served other than make me like his character less.
3. Anne being into an old guy
(Anne of Avonlea by Sullivan Productions)
Okay, I know some people found Morgan Harris attractive, but he was 49. 49. Meanwhile, Meagan Follows, who plays Anne, is 19. As a 21 year old girl, I found and still find the whole thing gross. Sure, he’s rich, but you’d think Anne would want more than that.
4. Marilla having a Romeo and Juliet level feud with the Blythe family.
(Anne of Green Gables 1934)
I just watched this and while it is super funny (unintentionally) the whole Blythe-Cuthbert feud is a bit annoying. It is never fully explained and the same consequences (Anne forbidden from dating Gilbert) could have been achieved without it.
5. Matthew being outgoing.
(Anne of Green Gables by PBS)
For whatever reason, books and movies and such act like being outgoing is a superior trait then being shy. Because of that, I think it is really important that Matthew has the social anxiety given to him by L. M. Montgomery. She decided to make a wonderful significant character struggle talking to other people and not be condemned for that. It is an essential part of Matthew that shouldn’t be changed.
6. Gilbert caressing Anne’s face when they aren’t even friends.
(Anne of Green Gables by Sullivan Productions)
This is another thing I know other people like but I find icky. At this point in the story, Gilbert and Anne aren’t friends. Sure, he gave up the Avonlea school for her, but she has yet to express any desire to be his friend. Touching her face, particularly in this time period, seems inappropriate. At the very least, he should have made sure he had her consent before touching her in an intimate way.
7. Gilbert telling Anne her story sucks
(Anne of Avonlea by both BBC and Sullivan Productions)
Why do people think this is a good idea? In the book Gilbert is excited Anne published her story and super supportive. Why give him another character’s lines that tear her down? I think the comments are rude, especially given they are unsolicited. Gilbert is my favorite character, so I’m particularly sad when he appears a jerk to me.
8. Diana made to feel guilty for wanting to be a mother by a rare representation of the LGTBQ community.
(Anne with an E Season 2)
Anne with an E added LGTBQ characters which is great. They have an episode showing these characters having a gathering where they can be themselves. They claim that all they want is for everyone to be free to be who they are. And yet, they (Aunt Josephine and friend) condemn Diana for wanting to be a wife and mom instead of a professional piano player. It is so frustrating to me that the creators finally added LGTBQ characters but then portrayed them as hypocrites. The characters didn’t have to be perfect, for sure, but hypocrisy seems an unfortunate and inaccurate portrayal of that community.
9. Gilbert smacking Anne with his horse whip thing.
(Anne of Avonlea by Sullivan Productions)
As you can probably tell, I’m not a fan of men touching women without their consent. Hitting a girl on the butt with a whip is highly inappropriate. If a guy did that to me now, in modern times no less, he would lose my friendship for sure. Please filmmakers, if you want to portray men positively please have them respect women.
10. Gilbert fainting despite desiring to be a doctor.
(Anne with an E Season 2)
This is more nit picky. It just annoyed me that they made Gilbert faint, and for what? Two seconds of comedy? I have fainted 8 times, 2 times relating to being uncomfortable with blood, and even I don’t faint when I see a needle. How is he going to be a doctor?
Now that you have read my complaints, what are yours? What changes did you dislike?

THE GREAT ND REWATCH OF 2021 / OCTOBER 5, 2019 // return of josh
oooookay folks! that's a wrap! below are my comments about tonight's ep + additional expansions on previously stated opinions. i'm not combining s2 ep 1 with this bc s2 is dead to me! so is s3! i only did this to gather up all these loose thoughts i had when this show with its one lonely season became such a comfort to me that i developed a second consciousness about it. but with these posts i am done! the evil is defeated! i will carry on through the 3rd and hopefully final season of nancy drew with less emotion and better spirits. thank god.
-"talk to owen" nancy firstly thinks of talking to owen only to see what happens w the agleaca; saying goodbye comes as sorta an afterthought mirroring tiffany's possession of george. yet nancy was unable to say goodbe to owen just like w kate. knowing this reveal about kate, i wonder if this was foreshadowing that something big will be revealed about him later? unlikely but still
-nancy + the reality of broken things: 'totems' like broken sand glass sculpture (good place) to show you it's not a dream; "owen broke that" ghost trap to ground him to reality, like how she reached for her locket in the good place, lucy's charm, ace's bear ('totems' idea borrowed from inception)
-george has never been an affectionate person, even with other women- so why does pda with nick suddenly become so important?
-lots of comments about ryan + women but what about carson/kate and karen? again with the hypocritical (interestingly, there is an aspect of violence to women connected with ryan (even though that violence is not his fault); but its not like kate or karen fared well either)
-ryan feels useless- relationships with women as stated by nancy- he seeks to redeem himself by showing up where nancy goes to prove he is good to have around/necessary/needed - but now that he is attempting to act as a parent he has to break through nancy's defenses all over again- firstly she didnt really consider him any kind of threat bc he comes off as incompetent- ie bad business deals- i think i mentioned last ep, their hauntings equalize them as they both attempt to gain peace by searching for answers but now ryan has changed the terms of engagement so he's back to square one, with carson. (which is how we find them s2 cowering in ryans car stalking nancy together)
-ryan's relationship to nancy exposes an interesting layer here. so far she doesnt know about nick/george but they still hold the cards (ie george gets one over on nick's ex/"the new girl") with the revelation of ryan being nancys father, nancy gains an interesting trump card in navigating the social fallout of being nick's ex. like george would take the new spot but then nancy comes out with george's ex in a much higher category. this plays out later on in the ep when george confronts ryan. george wants to talk about "them" but ryan shows up completely focused on nancy, thus illustrating the trump
-"i thought it was whitney with another insipid question" to me this sounds like whitney took bess's advice earlier about "asking aunt diana what she wants" (only to learn it actually annoyed the hell out of diana lmaoo)
-"then you need to fight for it" this hearkens nancy earlier by asking "arent you in by virtue of dna?" the test was positive; she is a marvin just like nancy is a hudson. thats not a fact that they can change. however, diana really acts like it can be changed- and in s2 we see it does change. its interesting for bess to be told to fight to be in a family she's already in and also foiled by nancy trying to fight her way out of her own family. would like to see bess stand up to diana and say something. i mean, she exists. as much as she may want to erase bess from the family, diana cannot erase her existence
-hannah's rolled up sleeves 💙
-"previous keepers records" -from s2- were those not her parents??
-mistaken murderers- everyone incorrectly assumes lucy was murdered just as they assume the agleaca killed owen
-even if owen weren't the price, how can they pay the toll without one of the people who called? i mean if it was anything other than owen and he still died they still wouldve been fucked
-"you don't need to check, i'm not even driving!" okay and giving up the goss. cassidy is me. lmfaoooo
-wonder if this locked marvin industries box will ever come back
-UNPOPULAR OPINION: george's confrontation with ryan comes waytoo late to do anything. i think i brought this up in an earlier post. its literally just her screaming at him now. like he is clocked out moved on. you know a good time for this scene? in the claw when he comes by to "check on her". hes vulnerable, fresh from rehab. and she has a chit over him for punching bookcases/the fuckin country club deal. therewould have been a perfect time to confront ryan on what happened- "what you did to me" okay sis. you admitted ep 1 you werent in hs anymore. youre of age now. admit you fucked up. take the L to force him to swallow the bigger L. and imagine how much more powerful the scene would have been- in george's domain, literally her own office, something ryan doesnt even have because HE DOESNT DO SHIT. ryan is SO EASY to trap but nobody notices. instead they have george try to get some kind of apology out of him when hes already done with that, and only for the sake of her establishing a new relaionship to boot. imagine how much more empowered she would feel if she just got that closure for herself- because she needed it, not so she could trot straight back to nick being all proud of calling a grown man to some random estate only to scream at him in a parking lot and have accomplished nothing. 🤦🏼‍♀️
-i get patrice thinking nancy is lucy but yeahhhhh this isnt how dementia works 😬
-i almost cant with nance and josh. how do you save your would-be murderer? (+ lucy's best friend and brother are in jail, her mom is lost to her mentally; all she has left is nancy and ryan)
-tbh i had no idea how to spell agleaca until bess said "theres no i in agleaca!" i thought it was igleaka like 😂
-damn how george just stares at nicks hand and then gets out herself is just so sad (like she immediately rectifies it but still...)
-"curiosity" part II; nancy who comes back to the sea after her mother died in it- agleaca drawn to lucy's trauma/to agleaca, lucy died fir "love"- would nancy be willing to risk the same? // this is also one of nancy's "mirroring mom" moments: winning sea queen, going to the velvet masque, getting caught by celia, having a "chat" with everett, and "falling" off the bluffs
-the collector 🎵👌🏻
-i wonder if there's any significance to the locations/means of their deaths; nancy's is pretty straight forward in terms of where and how, but why george and nick drowning, in the truck specifically? drowning in love? idk. ace's at the claw i get, but he gets himself caught? in what precisely? what does the fish hook mean? and bess's makes the least sense- burning alive? in the marvin estate? maybe the agleaca picked the most painful death for the marvin blood relation? idk. up for debate lmk ya thoughts
and lastly:
-i remember seeing this ending for the first time and i had just been traumatized by avengers endgame and since black widow is also a redhead seeing that shit at the bottom of the cliff it was like 😰😰😰 TOO SOON
-random thoughts-
these are just things i noticed, feel free to grapple with them or take note of them for extrapolation in s3 (lord knows i wont be) they probably belonged in recaps for previous eps but i either didnt find them in my notebook or couldnt fit them in
•nancy and truth/the perception of truth: using facts to suit theories instead of creating theories to suit facts- nancy often plays with the perception of truth and the details that fall between the steps; but she is also a victim to them by people who also know how to play the game (ie Carson) ex lying about the dress (tea cups and knives, trash got picked up, bail paid 1 hr ago) her inferences can be off from what others tell her ("people always lie") but she can also come to the wrong conclusions organically (carsons trial) more willing to believe the best in others/wanting them to be innocent (think nick ep 1) but later finding out the truths hurts more so she chooses to isolate herself and avoid involving others to be spared pain
•maybe i'm dumb, but who is "mr marvin" exactly? owen? the bald guy from the funeral? this comes from the guy who takes sailboats out like ep 4ish and says "ive worked for the marvins 20 years" she compliments the ship, he says "mr marvin and i just took her out this morning" so?? who is that? plus last ep just saying cassidy and isaac are her "late husbands children" dows thet mean sebastian? like did diana marry in? i feel like it would be odd for her to so embrace the "marvin way" if she wasnt a true born marvin
•ik college becomes a more s2 topic but none of the crew have ever been to college 🤔
•nick + the relationships with people whose reputations are tarnished: tiffany with investigating the hudsons/marvins, josh with murder/attempted murder, kate and 'stealing'/lying about nancy (esp compared to her almost preternatural kindness i mentioned before), george and her mom/family's reputations --> this kind of segues into nick + the concept of believing people you love could be capable of horrific things- accidental or on purpose (see- having to tell his family what happened)
•at the beginning, nancy kind of seems to be the "i'm sorry you're upset" kind of apologist and knows it. she also doesnt usually apologize earnestly bc shes never really sorry (she always has to get what she needs first ie coins mess) and she doesnt want to lie; to me it seems she doesnt like to bother with other people bc they require certain cues/niceties that are often lies- they ask "how are you" without meaning it, they dont really want an honest response except "fine", they dont like it when you call them out on fakeness, etc/ they require apologies for their bruised feelings even if youre right (and nancy can be pretty rude/nasty if provoked- a harshness unsoftened by sympathy)
•cont'd from the good place ep- since kate apparently means nothing to nancy anymore according to last ep ("stop calling her my mother") is her policy of "always seek the truth" now null and void? this mantra is now tainted bc the person who gave it to her broke it so much. can nancy disengage w it now? does she fall from grace to be complicit in "mysteries" of her own like everyone else? does she lose some of her "god-like" holier than thou act bc she is now literally born and raised in the "darkness" of sins/ugly truths like everyone else's? (ie truth is ugly but not to nancy, until now)
•did lucy disappear because her "murder" was finally solved? or simply because her trauma was addressed- she never meant to tell anyone about her suicide plans, the twisted trauma of which was too great to contain/unable to move on due to "sin" - or unable to move on because secret of nancy's parentage still remained? "lucy never wanted me to figure out how she died" she only wanted nancy to figure out her parentage without solving the mystery, yet did lucy see/witness nancy's revelation at the claw, or with carson, or even ryan? waiting for karen/josh to know? or just vanished?
•concept of imperfect mom figures- lucy, kate, celia, victoria, even karen- who all struggle with failings
•since karen dispelled one of lucy's attempts at nancy's haunting at the garden party, is that proof she isn't haunting karen?
•the crew + needing adult help: george's possession and victoria, club busted and owen, car accident and mcginnis, thom and cipher, larkspur lane and sal, bones and john, agleaca and hannah
•everett is always sitting- at his home office, at dinner, at yacht club (wonder if that was his actor + had to do with his recasting?)
-dad talk-
•both her dads think negatively on her "girl detective" thing but ryan sees use in it as a means to get answers, carson would never 'use' her in that way
•nancy + carson : suffering
"what about what i wanted?" + carson being imprisoned for weeks but she immediately rejects him (the DAY he gets his freedom no less) with no regard to his suffering (caused by herdiary!!) in regards to her own from this new knowledge (she does suffer a lot- "almost dying is my new normal" but still)/ the "thankless job" of parenting
•nancy + adults - connected to cop thing a few posts earlier : nancy is v precocious and smart for her age- she is "old enough" but also has trouble with the "adults" in her life- fathers, moms, karen, and cops letting her down but depends heavily on "adults" she cantrust- hannah gruen, john sander, lisbeth- highlighting her youth and occasional naiveté; nancy is unafraid to hold adults accountable for their actions (ie karen) but also loses them as allies along the way. both hannah and john are very nonthreatening and also experts in their fields, while her fathers and karen are revealed to be "just another brick in the wall" average, capable of mistakes, and not the people she expects them to be, while characters like john and hannah can only benefit nancy because either they do not mean as much to her or have no reason/nothing to gain by lying; they are purposefully shown to be small, demure, gentle, and nonthreatening as foils/opposed to karen, ryan, and josh whom she previously trusted; carson (+kate) is nonviolent as well but has the biggest betrayal which is perceived as an act of violence to her very personhood/shattering who she thought she was so she cannot be that anymore (admits truths to john "everytime i dig i hurt everyone" and hannah-agleaca) : unclear if redemption is possible for anyone :
•nancy bonds with carson over loss and then ryan over haunting. but actually, nancy rejects carson over loss bc she wanted to say goodbye and wasnt allowed to- so carson was with kate but nancy was not. nancy and ryan are more equals about haunting bc they both start around the same time and conclude together as well [nancy and ryan bond over thinking their parents conspired to kill lucy- think sitting on the floor at velvet masque] nancy is appreciated by ryan for her ability to get answers- he has no qualms about going through her/outside of police bc he wants results/instant gratification and thinks nancy is more so the expert in her field/respects her even through her age- once again acknowledging she is braver than he is (think lucy + claw parking lot) and her portent in the car freaks him out bc shes usually always in control, esp with him
•bc nancy was told "you can't be afraid of the truth" until she was / ironic bc shes braver than him except when the truth is they are related then she's scared to tell him while he actually starts to take some initiative
•nancy picked "the wrong person" to help her through her grief in her dad's eyes like her mom's best friend was somehow a better choice? carson truly "parents" nancy even during grief and haunting (which she rejects) whereas nancy and ryan are really equals in all their situations which is actually better for her and easier for her to maintain- nancy's expectations are low so anything that ryan gives is a bonus. nancy's expectations of carson were shattered by his lies so now she has nothing to connect with him about- they could barely even connect when sharing the same grief- carson actually very hypocritical hence nancy's upset at karen revelation yet carson doesn't agree bc hes the "adult" and shes the "child" not realizing she hadnt been one for a long time (hidden staircase perhaps?) whereas ryan better treats her with lack of controlling parental nature bc he is impressed with her competence before he receives that knowledge; "lucy was smarter than me too" acknowledging her intellect negates his ability to "parent" ie control her to leave him solely with caring about her wellbeing in her situations + aftermath - i honestly dont think carson would ever admit that shes smarter than him* bc he thinks shes not "all grown up" yet ("youve kept me on the bench for years"); ryan is more willing to meet her where she's at which is so important for all her good relationships - ace, owen, etc
*carson asks for nancy to figure out "who to trust" in ep 12, finally admitting that she is useful/ie acknowledging that her skills/abilities do help, are necessary, and can in fact save lives --> this is then s2 follow up by working for him (but it takes him that long)
•ryan/nancy/carson venn diagram - using sex to escape trauma
•if not carson vs ryan then what about celia and everett vs patrice (and josh)? at this point in the narrative, do you think ryan's parents would take his side should the knowledge become public (without their involvement), or deny nancy?
•"we were a family" + the disruption of family dinner- kate was really the one holding that family together and her death makes it unsustainable
okay!! that's all folks! i have exhausted my plethora of nancy drew thoughts + knowledge. you will never have to hear from me again!! TYSSM 😘

Steve Trevor
Why I like them:From what little I knew of him, I already liked Steve and his relationship with Diana before seeing the film.  I thought his encounter with her in the DCAU, while short, was both sweet and sad.  (I was actually hoping for a similar post-credits scene where she goes to visit an elderly Steve.)  Upon digging further into his history through the comics, I love how he’s essentially her “Lois Lane”, often playing the “damsel in distress” but never feeling emasculated for it, simply in awe of her power and always counting on her to save the day.  He adores her as his “angel”, and they have such a long rich established history already that it’s a shame their romance was once again cut short here.Movie Steve is a bit less blindly faithful, but I feel it makes him an even more believable character for it.  He’s seen some shit and knows how cruel the world can be compared to Diana’s wide-eyed wonder and innocence, but he quickly warms up to her ideals because she has the power to make them come true, and he recognizes that’s what makes her so important.  I also like that despite his cynicism, he still maintains a good humor and snark in addition to his heart.  He kinda reminds me of Kyon, being the straight man to Diana’s enthusiasm. Why I don’t:Maybe the fact that he is a bit pessimistic at first, even though the pragmaticism is obviously necessary.  When their opposing viewpoints butt heads on the battlefield, with him urging to move the party along while Diana wants to stop and help every person along the way, it’s clear he has a point but at the same time it’s frustrating to see them have to pass by so much suffering for the same reasons Diana probably felt at the time.  There’s no real right answer, which makes it even harder.Favorite episode (scene if movie):I may need to rewatch again to decide, but I think right now I would say the “dancing” scene in Veld.  There was just such an air of general joy and celebration about that scene, with Steve taking a little time out from his own worrying in order to introduce Diana to such simple pleasures as “swaying” and snow, detailing the things humans do when they’re not at war like “waking up and having breakfast”.  Small things we all take for granted.  (Plus I have a soft spot for characters eating breakfast together, given my fondness for TimSteph/Batfam and waffles/pancakes. =P)  The chemistry between them felt very natural and serene at that moment, and it made sense why they would fall for each other - admiring each other’s accomplishments and abilities, as well as things the other is more familiar with.  Their connection developed based on mutual respect and understanding, and as someone who’s usually not a big fan of romance I can get behind it.(I did like his little gamut of emotions he went through when about to blow up the gas, although for some reason his death didn’t hit me as hard as I thought I would.  Again, a reason I want to rewatch the film to dissect why the climax didn’t quite work me.)Favorite season/movie:Well he’s only been in one DCEU film so far, and I’d say it’s my favorite representation of him across media overall.  I do also really like the idea of him having met Diana as kids like in these scans.Favorite line:“I can save today, but you can save the world.”Favorite outfit:I like his fighter pilot outfit.  It’s fluffy~OTP:WonderTrev is love. Brotp:Him and Sameer?  I loved their little acting exchange when infiltrating the German gala.  They just slipped so seamlessly into their personas and bounced easily off each other’s improvisation; it’s clear these two have totally practiced putting on a charade before. XDHead Canon:Ok this is shameless but after skimming through a smutfic about the night they spent together in Veld, I do like the idea that he called her “angel” afterwards (bc where was that in the film).  There was another fic I read where Diana was the one to visit Steve’s mother after the war and inform her of her son’s death, which I accept as well.I don’t really have any headcanons of my own, other than the possibility that Diana didn’t eat ice cream for 100 years bc it hurt too much by reminding of him - but that’s more to support a potential Bruce&Diana “bonding over shared grief” drabble I’ve been mulling over.Unpopular opinion:Despite the answer above, I’m not a big fan of the idea that they actually ended up sleeping together, even though it was strongly implied. *shrug* I kinda prefer Steve cutely chickening out by just wishing her “goodnight” and running out of the room tbh haha.A wish:For Steve’s wish for Diana to come true: Save the world (through love).  To not forget him and the hope in humanity he stood for, but become stronger bc of his memory. An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen:For Steve to come back to life.  As much as his death pains me (in theory), now that they’ve killed him I’d rather they stick to their guns.  Maybe he and Diana could meet again via timey wimey shenanigans (given the Flash has already shown signs of time manipulation), but please don’t resurrect him like they will obviously do with Superman.5 words to best describe them:“It’s a bird, it’s Steve-dying-in-a-plane” *shot*My nickname for them:Don’t have one.  (Although I like how little Diana called him her “secret boy” in the above scans.)

Er: *Riding Mehitabel, holding her horn to not fall down* |Sharla, we helped someone, isn’t great?|

M: |Dont listen to Sharla Errki, she is all negative you know it right?|
Er: |Sharla is great mon!| :3

Er: |Come on, it wont hurt you| -O-
M: |To get stonger you need to fight, but you also need to take breaks to fight later with all your effectiveness.|
S: |You are talking a freaking bull-|
M: *”Do you want to get a fucking slap bitch?” face*
E: So, we are going to visit fusion resort, where my uncle is working-
Er: *wants to ask question*
E: Yes Errki?
Er: |What is fusion resort and uncle?|
E: ... Golly me how i could explain that?
M: |Let me do it|
*After a hour of explainations*
Er: |So, i understood everything.|
S: |FINALLY! How can you not know such a words like it?|
E: Sharla we talked about it!
M: |So lets finally go in fusion resort, it is getting dark|
E: I agree.
-So we went in. I noticed my uncle immeditly.
-You mean great grandpa Jordon?
-Yes.
E: Uncle Jordon!
J: Oh Erika you already came here? Well how was first gym battle?
E: We won. Oh yes let me introduce to you my pokemon, say hi guys.
Er: |Hi| ^O^
S: |Hi| -_-
M: |Hello.|
J: Your pokemon speak?!!?
E: NAh, it is pokecomm Mr. Inventors invention. How is Chinweuba? Let her out of her pokeball!
J: I cant, i am at work!
Er: |What is Chinwuba?|
J: Chinweuba is my gardevoir, later you may meet her if you want.
Errki then just... I dont know, but you could've seen that he didn't wanted to see Gardevoir.
E: Ok guys rest in your pokeballs...
S: |WAIT-|
J: What was with your Ralts?
E: Errki's mother left him alone.
J: Gardevoirs mostly aren't doing something like it even when...
E: Even when they have twins? Errki, had twin too.
J: Mostly some part of pokemons if they have twins leave the weakest one. But with Gardevoir's it is rare case.
E: Errki's mom is in that rare case.
J: You are probably tired, lets try to find for you good room.
E: I'll pay-
J: Nope, i'll take care.
-Anyway, why you call great grandpa Jordon uncle?..
-I dont know if i should tell you it now or more later when you'll grow up little bit...
So i just was walking in the corridors, talking with people they would let me in their room, which of course was strange. I went in one room.
M: You must be the room service-
E: But i amn-
M: HUSH! I need something, tell my friend Diana that i'll meet her at the pool in an hour.
E: BUT I AMN-
M: Dont dawdle now! She is on the fourth floor if you didn't know.
I walked out of the room, pissed but i still decided to help her.
E: $^*()*&^$#$$%$E$RFB#! STUPID! STUPID! STUPID! FInally 4th floor!
D: You've finished cooking my meal already?
E: I amn't the ser-
D: You dont have my meal? Then get it idiot!
E: *Tries to hold on to not kill someone* tgtgrwgh fine!
-Geez who that Diana thought  she was? No one has the rights to talk with someone like it!
-Pffft alot people that have so much more money are cocky.
-Like i really wonder, nobody recognized you?
-Mostly not. But back to story!
So i want down to get this freaking meal.
E: Sorry mr. mrs. Diana[that bitch] is waiting for her meal, it is ready or not?
NPC: What?! Of course it is ready, wait kid, you aren't working here.
J: Whats going on?
E: Nothing  uncle Jordon *whispering* Just mrs. Diana asked me, asked me rudely to bring, her stupid meal!
NPC: Oh Jordon it is your niece?
J: Yes... Ok Erika i'll send someone there you dont have to-
E: *already in the elevator* I'll do it. *closes elevator doors*
NPC: Well Jordon, you niece really likes to help people i guess.
-So i gave to that bi- i mean to that sassy woman her stupid meal and told her that Melanie will wait for her at the pool. I want to Melanie she called me imbacile, and give me new task to bring her stupid things from pokemart
-I think you should've just showed them middle fingers grandma.
-I would've done this. If there of course your great grandpa wasn't working.
-Why are you not refering your father as your father grandma?
-Becaaaaause it is very confusing and i'll tell you both about it more later when you'll grow up!
-But-
-No buting!
So i brought her what she wanted.
-And what she did?
-She asked me to search for her Bikini and i dont even want to say where the hell i found it.
Basically it was that next day was very interesting...
J: It is going to be costume themed party at evening.
E: I dont have costume >_<
J: Nu...
E: What nu?
J: I wanted to give it only when it would be your birthday...
E: What costume is it..?
J: :D
E: YES! *Dance* BEWEAR COSTUME WOHOOOOO! Thanks uncle!
J: You are welcome.
E: It is sad that dad-
J: Nononono, dont you dare to start talking about that i know you better than your father.
E: Ok...
*Breaking sounds from other room*
E: *sigh* I'll make sure that they wont break anything else.
J: Wait, about your Ralts-
E: I am not sure that Errki is ready to talk to any gardevoir...
J: Lets try Erika, it will be better for him.
E: Errki!
Er: |Yes?|
E: Come to me!
Er: *jumps in the Erika's arms* >O<
E: Hey Errki do you want to talk to Chinwuba?
Er: |Not really...|
E: Errki, she isn't like you mother, lets atleast try?
Er: |Fine...|
J: Are you ready little one? *sends out Chinwuba*
Then a Gardevoir with long hair came out, she looked at Errki with a smile.
Er: ...
J: We'll leave you alone! *whispers* Come Erika.
*1 hour later*
S: |Like, where is Errki?|
E: Talking to Gardevoir
M: |I dont think that it is a great decision-|
Er: |Wheeeeeeeeee!| *come floating* *Held by Chinwuba's psychic energy.*
Mehitabel felt jealous alot
-Thats pretty cruel
-Dont worry she got over it, right Mehitabel?
-The big rocky snake had it's head in the window from the outside-|Sure.|
So then we went on costume party.
Michaell: Jordon!
The boy said-Michaell the ex leader of the team fusion? Our great grandfather?
-Yes, he didn't wanted to do anything harmful, not like your great grandmother-Erika frowned. On her already wrinkly face appeared more wrinkles
J: Oh hi Michaell.
Michaell: Oh that is your niece right? Hello little one.
E: Hello *shakes hands*
J: Yes, Erika, she already began her pokemon journey.
Michaell: It is pretty late for her in my opinion, but it is better late than never right?
E: I agree.
Michaell: Well, Erika if not your uncle me and your father would kill each other in our rivalry, you know how business is.
J: Come on you and Corny always were rivals since your childhood, where is Regina anyway?
Michaell: She didn't come here, wasn't feeling well.
J: What about Henri?
Michaell: Well, he didn't had a spare time sadly.
When i first time looked at Michaell i never thought that he would be one of my first problems.
