Little snippet of a Brocedes fanfic im tempted to write.
Nico did not care that he was commiting damage to the property, he needed answers that no one was giving and the calls that were going unanswered. The door gave way to his third bash from his shoulder, it ached so badly and he could hear Vivian barely calling his name.
He looked around the apartment and found it so bare.
Like no one had been living here at all.
Everything that had a home on the shelves and walls, all gone.
"Nico"
He scanned each room and found it all the same, everything was gone that had been there. Nico could feel his body going cold, Niki's words echoing through his skull.
No, he would not just give up this world.
This had been his dream
Scratched that, It had been their dream, together.
Them vs The world.
When did it change from that to fighting against each other.
Thats when he spotted it on the glass table on the living room. There sat a picture frame and a letter with his name in dark ink.
He slowly approached the glass table and picked up the photo frame.
A younger version of himself smiling looking up at a younger version of Lewis who had his arms wrapped around Nico's shoulders.
One word to describe the feeling of that photo.
Love.
He felt his hands begin to shake as he placed the photo frame down and lifted the letter and opened it. Nico could feel Vivian behind him a few steps, she had been silent the moment they had entered the living room.
He read the words etched on the paper out loud.

"Lewis, please"
Nico was standing in front of Lewis's drivers room door, stopping him from leaving.
Normally, Lewis would laugh it off. He would grab the other, wrestle with him, laugh with him and trade names they'd been calling each other since they were kids.
But it was different now.
They were different now.
Lewis didn't regret kissing Nico. He didn't regret it because it had felt right. It had felt like everything in the universe finally made sense when he had cupped Nico's face and called him a dork before kissing him, yet it had changed everything.
They had everything they both desperately wanted within reach of their finger tips; championships, racing, each other.
Yet Lewis knew that this world was cruel and harsh. That this thing between them, no matter how strong and beautiful wouldn't be able to survive no matter how hopeful they were.
They wouldn't be able to rewrite the entire world and make them okay with two men, two athletes who were meant to compete against each other as much as they worked together, being in love.
And the secret would kill them.
So Lewis closed his eyes, mourned the this moment in his mind, before speaking.

"Lewis!"
Lewis wants to keep walking. He can see the doors he was heading for right in front of him. He was ao close to walking out into the night air, but that voice, as much as he hated it, would always have a power over him.
A hand touched his arm softly, but the fingers that gripped his bicep were strong. Even without touching bare skin, Lewis knew those calluses like the ones on his own hand.
Nico would forever be burned into his heart.
It didn't matter how much Lewis tried ro hate him, the love that he had grown for Nico since they were teenagers had a choke hold over his aching heart.
"It's so good to see you!", Nico smiled, squeezing his arm and brushing his hair back from his own face with the other, "It's been a while. How have you been?"
Innocent words and an innocent smile but they cut Lewis deeper than any wound ever could.
He didn't understand it. He didn't understand how Nico could stand there and smile as if they were still friends, as if they could ever be friends after everything that had happened between them. As if they could ever just erase the fact that Nico had broke Lewis's heart and left him in the dust to pick up the pieces, and then waltz back in as if they were still the two bestfriends that used to holiday together.
Lewis wanted to ask if it had been worth it. He wanted ask if she made him happy, but he knew the answer to that. He knew that she was the opposite of everything Lewis was, and that that was what Nico loved. He had wanted Lewis to be her but Lewis couldn't be, so he had left and torn everything apart as he had.
"I'm good, yeah", Lewis answered, trying not to sound stiff as Nico nodded, "I was just heading out. Some of us have a race tomorrow, not all of us are retired"
His words came across as a joke as Nico laughed, but to Lewis they were bitter in his mouth.
"Fair, fair, but hey, don't be a stranger, yeah? We're still friends. I miss you", Nico admitted, his voice dropping and gaze changing and it hurt. It hurt worse than any crash Lewis had ever had in his carer.
"Don't", Lewis pulled his arm free, "Don't you do this to me"
Nico had the audacity to look confused, his mouth opening again but she called him from across the room. His attention shifting, and Lewis took that moment to escape.
Walking out into the night ait felt like releasing a sob as Lewis gulped in the cold air. A thousand tiny needles piercing his lungs and chest, but Lewis pushed forward.
He had no choice but to keep moving just as he had no choice in still loving Nico even after all this time.
