To be honest, you have no idea how many drinks you already have in your system, but when if not today are you allowed to celebrate like this? After the Death Star was successfully destroyed, the Empire was defeated and peace and tranquility will return to the entirety of the galaxy. The age of fear and terror is over, the time of fighting is over and you can finally let yourself go. Finally, there is something to celebrate, something you have been working towards for years. And today, after all the suffering, that goal has been achieved and you could not be any happier to be right here, right now: on Endor, in the midst of numerous Ewoks dancing and partying, with your friends who fought alongside you all those years while the sky above you is lit up in a variety of colours.

However, the exertion of the day affects your body, your feet slowly starting to hurt from this long, fateful day and when you see Luke sitting at a table, with Han and Leia next to him, a break from all this celebrating suddenly sounds quite attractive and you stumble and stagger towards them.

"There he is! The man of the hour!", you chuckle happily as soon as you are near them, your arms spread wide as you head straight for Luke, who examines you with a small but shy smile. Before he can answer, however, you actually trip over your own feet and almost hit the ground if it wouldn't be for Luke's strong arms to prevent you from falling to the ground.

"Woah! Be careful!", Luke warns you, but what he does not expect is that you barely noticed your little misstep and just sit on his lap, giggling with joy. "I think someone had a drink or two too many."

"Are you talking about me? Don't you worry, Luke, I'm perfectly fine!", you cheekily smile at him, swaying a bit which is why he carefully puts one of his hands on your arm so you do not fall off your seat on top of him.

"Maybe you just didn’t have enough?", you tease him, showing him his glass, turning it upside down to emphasize that it is empty. Of course, this victory also comes with a lot of pain for Luke and Leia due to the loss of their father, but Luke has assured you several times that he is fine and that he still wants to celebrate this victory, in honor of his father.

That is also why you really wanted the two of you to have a good time together, but apparently you really had a few too many drinks.

"She definitely had too much", Han comments on your behaviour, sitting across from you with an arm around Leia, followed by a laugh. "I think I have rarely seen her like this and I have seen a lot."

"Han, you could use another drink, don't you think?", you answer him provocatively, but before you can elaborate, you feel the warmth of Luke's hand running up and down your arm. Heat rushes to your face, your cheeks turning red, but you just reach for his other hand and play with his fingers enthusiastically.

"I never thought I would see Ewoks in my life! I mean, did you look at them? They are so cute, I can't believe they stopped an army of stormtroopers by themselves!", you gush in awe upon watching these little creatures dance around their fire. "Don't worry, Luke. You are still cute as hell, too."

"Oh wow, it must sting to be compared to little furry bears", Han chuckles, putting his hand over his mouth to stop himself from laughing out loud. Leia, also trying to hold back her laughter for her brother's sake, hits Han with her elbow.

"Stop it, Han. I am not even talking to you, just to Luke. Look at you! Such a beautiful face!", you grin, running your index finger along Luke's jawline. Your faces are so close now that they are almost touching and as soon as your eyes meet, the world around you becomes silent.

But just when Luke thinks you are about to close the gap between you, you throw your arms around his neck and place a kiss on his cheek, your arms wrapped tightly around his neck.

"I really love you, Luke", you whisper, or at least think you are whispering, because Han comments your words with inhaling in shock.

"No, that is news to me. I would never have expected that in my life, with the way you always look at each other-"

"Han!" Luke and Leia interrupt him at the same time and he immediately raises his hands in the air in defense, an expression of innocence on his face.

"It is not at all fun to say if you don't say it back, Luke", you sadly pout now, skillfully ignoring Han or not even noticing him due to your numbed senses. Because you are moving too much again, you almost slide off Luke's lap once more, but he holds you tight again in the last moment so that does not happen.

"Well, I think it is time for you to lie down now. It was a long evening and-"

"B-But we haven't even danced with each other yet!", you say indignantly as Luke stands up with you and immediately grab his hand, lifting it up to do several clumsy pirouettes underneath.

To prevent you from tripping over your own feet again, Luke casually lifts you into his arms, causing you to squeal as everything around you suddenly seems to spin even more. Not resisting or fighting back, enjoying the closeness you now have to him too much, you wave to Leia and Han over Luke's shoulder and let him carry you into one of the huts further up in the treetops.

Luke gently lays you down on the small mattress laid out in your hut and covers you with the blanket, sitting next to you. Your eyes are already half closed, but one of your hands is still clinging tightly to his.

"I love you too, you can't even imagine how much", Luke admits before giving you a kiss on the forehead and leaving you to your dreams, which for the first time are only consisting of positive things.

Scattered rays of light shine into your face, causing you to wake up far too early after the previous long night. Slowly, you open your eyes and listen to the soft rustling of the leaves outside. You stretch your arms above your head as you yawn and sit up, running your hands through your face as the first effects of last night make themselves noticeable.

You curse under your breath as you rise on shaky legs, having to hold onto the wall of the small hut to keep your balance. You already regret not drinking less yesterday, but it felt so good in the moment. Completely sleepy and not yet fully awake, you stumble out onto the wooden platform high up in the trees and stop in your tracks when you see Luke standing on the railing in front of you, looking out over the Ewok village.

The light wind blows through his hair and the sunlight causes his face to shine naturally. Barely able to take your eyes off him, memories of last night suddenly come to your mind and your heart beats faster. You can't remember everything, there are some missing parts in your memories, but what you can remember brings a blush to your cheeks in an instant.

Wanting nothing more than to immediately disappear back into your hut because you just do not want to be confronted with your actions of last night, you slowly turn around, retreating, but as soon as he says your name, you know he does not even need to see you to know you are there.

With a smile, Luke turns to you, leaning his back against the railing.

"Slept well?", he asks gently, but you think you can also hear a certain amount of concern in his voice.

With a nod, you slowly walk towards him, looking away because you just can't keep eye contact, too afraid of what you might see in his eyes.

"How are you?", you ask carefully as you lean over the railing next to him and he looks at you from the side, his focus solely on you which makes your cheek feel even warmer. Playing with a strand of rope that is holding the wood of the railing together, you wait for his answer, your heart beating loudly in your ears as your shoulders touch.

"I'm good. We won so..", Luke chuckles quietly, but immediately falls awkwardly silent again.

You stand next to each other in silence for several minutes, just listening to the wind and the peaceful sounds of the forest. But you both feel that there is something unspoken between you and neither of you knows how or whether to address it. Once Luke finally clears his throat, you brace yourself for the worst.

"You don't have to be embarrassed about what happened last night if that is why you are not speaking to me like you usually do", Luke addresses the rancor in the room and you want to run away and lock yourself up somewhere and just never come out again.

"Luke, I'm incredibly sorry. I-I had too much to drink and my behavior was completely inappropriate", you apologize to him, head down because you just can't manage to look at him without immediately turning bright red. Why are you suddenly so completely out of control of your emotions?

"Oh... I see. Uhm, you don't have to apologize. I mean, if it was just the effects of having too much to drink, then it was probably just a mistake.."

"W-What do you mean?", you ask in surprise, not knowing what he is trying to imply. Or maybe you do know and just do not want to admit it.

"Well, I mean- So I- Would it be wrong of me if, deep down, I hoped that it was more than that? That it was, maybe, real?"

"Luke, what are you talking about...?"

"Would it be so bad if it was real? Do you really feel about me that way?", he asks you and now you finally look into each other's eyes and you hold your breath, searching his eyes for any signs that will tell you what is going on, if he actually means his words.

"Because if that were the case, then all I can say is that I feel the same way about you. Maybe even more", he continues, not letting you speak as he takes your hands in his. "I really really love you too. I told you yesterday, but I don't think-"

"I know. I think I heard it", is the only thing you can say in response to his confession, your thoughts swirling around in your head. You never would have thought that he would feel the same way about you and for some reason your heart now beats a little more painfully than before because you just feel so much love for this man in front of you.

"As I told you yesterday, Luke: I really love you too", you admit openly and before you know it, he wraps you in his arms and hugs you as tightly as if you wouldn't experience the next day.

And in that moment you realize that you would never find a safer place than right here, in his arms. That no matter what comes your way in the future, nothing matters as long as you have each other. And finally, after all this time, you do have each other.

Chapter 3: departure

‘Who tf is texting me this early’ I thought to myself as I picked up my phone and looked at the bright screen.

*3 messages from ‘bestie 💗’*

I then looked at the time.

*5:00 am*

I groaned but unlocked my phone to see what leia wanted.

Bestie 💗: y/n

Bestie 💗: Y/N

Bestie 💗: Y/N M/N L/N WAKE YO ASS UP

I chuckled at the message and replied to her

Y/n: girl it is 5 in the morning

Bestie 💗: ik ik but I just can’t stop thinking about Jude

I gasped.

Y/n: call me.

Leia then FaceTimed me and I picked up. “So tell me what’s going on” I said amused. “Okay okay so I just can’t stop thinking about that day with Jude and we’ve been texting ever since then and he’s just perfect” she says sighing. I laughed. “You have a boyfriend lei” I said. She groaned. “I know but Toby has been distant these past days and he’s stopped checking up on me and whenever I grab his phone even to take a silly little picture he snatches it back and looks at me nervously” she says with her head hung low. “What?” I said with my brows furrowed. “That son of a bitch” I cursed. “What?” Leia asked confused. “What do you mean “what”? He’s cheating on you lei.” I said with a frown. Leia looked horrified. “What?” She said with a cocked eyebrow. “He’s cheating on you girl.” I said crossing my arms. “Where’s the evidence” she said crossing my arms getting defensive. “Girl wdym where’s the evidence, the signs are right there” I said. “I guess you’re right” she replied sighing. She looked down to the floor, sad. “You alright?” I asked with a worried tone.

“Am I alright?” She said looking up at me. “Girl I’m perfectly fine” she said laughing. I was shocked at how fast her mood changed. “What?” I said. “Tbh I’m glad” she started. “Let hot girl summer commence” she said throwing a fist up and jumping up on her bed. “You can not be for real” I said holding back a laugh. “I’m as real as I can be” she said smirking, looking like she’s about to do something mischievous. “What are you about to do?” I asked amused. “I’m about to text Jude, I’m going out tonight” she winked. I laughed. “Have fun bae” I said. “Oh yk I will” she said giggling. I laughed. “Alright bye, call me later” I said. “Okay!” She blew a kiss. I caught it then I hung up.

Since I was wide awake now, I went to the kitchen to get a quick snack, pop tarts. I was scrolling through TikTok when a call came it.

*FaceTime call from “Trent ❤️”*

I answered the call.

“Good morning beautiful” he said smiling. “Good morning handsome” I said biting back my smile. “How are you?” He asked. “Im great, how are you?” I asked eating the rest of my pop tart. “I’m great now that I’m seeing you” he smirked. I rolled my eyes. “What do you need Trent?” I asked. “What do you mean? I can’t just call my beautiful girlfriend?” He asked. I almost choked on my pop tart from shock. “Girlfriend? Trent we just met” I said laughing. “Yea but you know…” he started. “I know what?” I asked curiously. “You know I like you a lot” he said looking at me. He sounded so genuine and his slight smile and dreamy eyes almost made me melt on the spot. “Oh stop it” I said hiding the blush creeping up on my face. “I’m for real y/n, I like you a lot, I don’t care if we just met, I know you’re my soulmate” he said. I looked at him with a straight face. “Be so fr Trent” I said laughing. “I am fr.” He said seriously. His tone and expression kinda scared me but he looked so fine. “Oh okay.” I said nervously. “I want to see you y/n” he said. “Okay, when?” I asked getting up to throw away my trash. “Right now.” He responded. I whipped my head back to look at him. “Right now? Trent it’s 7am” I groaned. “I know but I want to see you so get ready, we’re going out” he said. “Trent, stuff doesn’t open til like 11 or 12” I said chuckling. “Oh right” he said quietly. I laughed. “You can come over though and we can hang out til then.” I proposed. “Alright, I’m coming over” Trent said getting up from his bed. We said our goodbyes and I hung up.

After a while Trent arrived at my house and we hung out

My legs were spread across Trent’s lap as we watched keeping up with the kardashians. I didn’t like the show but the drama made me watch it. Trent then looked at his phone. “It’s 10:30, get ready babe” he said. “Can’t we just stay here Trent” I said moving my legs and hugging him from the side, my head on his chest. He kissed my forehead. “I would love to but I really wanna take you out” he said. “Why?” I asked looking up at him. His expression changed from amused to sad. “I’m leaving for England tomorrow” he said looking down. “Tomorrow?” I said getting up. “Yea” he said also getting up. “Oh.” I said looking down at the floor. There was silence. “Fine, I’ll go get ready” I smiled up at him. He smiled back. “I’ll be waiting for you” he said. I then headed to my bathroom.

I looked at myself in the mirror and sighed. My eyes started watering. ‘Y/n you cannot seriously be crying over a man you just met’ I thought to myself as I wiped my eyes. I then showered and fixed myself up. “Even though im sad at least I look good” I said to myself while looking in the mirror. I then went out and put in my shoes and accessories then looked at myself in my full length mirror. “Perfect” I whispered.

(Outfit)

I walked out of my room and headed to the living room where Trent was waiting for me. “Woah, you look gorgeous” Trent said walking up to me and putting his hands on my waist, pulling me closer to him. “Thanks” I said smiling and resting my arms over his shoulders. He looked into my eyes then my lips and kissed me. I deepened the kiss, running my fingers through his dark brown locs. He then pulled away. “Well at least this time we didn’t get interrupted this time” I laughed. He smirked. “You are so so gorgeous y/n” he said. I smiled. He then gave me a peck on the lips and let go taking my hand in his and we left my apartment and headed to the car.

The car was silent but it was a comfortable silence. I just looked out the window looking at the beautiful scenery before I turned to talk to Trent. “Trent” I started. He hummed. “Where are we going?” I asked. “It’s a surprise” he said smiling, keeping his eyes on the road. I huffed and crossed my arms. “Don’t be like that” he said putting his hand on my thigh. I smiled and relaxed my arms. “Can I play some music” I asked. “Yea of course” he said. I connected my phone to the car and pressed shuffle on my playlist. *now playing: pink + white - Frank ocean*. “This song is so calming” I said getting comfortable in my seat. “It is” he said. “Wait yk this song?” I asked. “Yea i listen to Frank sometimes” he says nonchalantly. I looked at him shocked. “Omg I literally love you” I squealed, planting a kiss on his cheek. He smiled.

We then stopped at a red light. “Put this on” Trent said checking his gps and pulling a white blindfold out of his pocket. “Uh okay” I said taking the blindfold and putting it on. I heard Trent chuckle but thought nothing of it.

The car then came to a full stop. “We’re here but don’t take off the blindfold” he said as he got out the car. I nodded. I then heard the passengers door open up. Trent took my arm and gently led me out the car. He then held me by the shoulder leading me to our destination. “Here we are” he said. “You can take your blindfold off” he added.

I took the blindfold off and gasped. “Omg Trent this is beautiful” I said looking at the picnic set up in front of me. “Do you like it?” He asked smiling. “Ofc I like it, I love it baby, thank you” I said hugging him tightly. He wrapped his arms around my waist and chuckled. He then looked and me and pecked me on the lips. We then separated, one of trends arms still on my waist. “When did you have time to do this?” I asked. “Well Jude, Leia and some of my other friends helped me out” he said. “Wait Leia helped you?” I asked shocked that Leia could keep that secret hidden from you. “Yea” he said chuckling. “Wait how were Jude and leia acting when y’all were preparing all of this” I smirked. “They were really touchy but I didn’t really think about it” he said. I laughed. Then grabbed Trent’s hand. “Come on, let’s sit” I said smiling.

(Picnic)

After a while of chatting and eating me and Trent both picked up and canvas. “Let’s draw eachother” I suggested. “Yea let’s do it” Trent said. I smiled. “I’m not really good at drawing though” he said nervously. “That’s okay” I said as I started drawing. Trent tried peeking at my canvas. “Stop!” I said playfully pushing him. He laughed and started on his

Really?” I smiled. “I told you I’m not good at drawing” he said. I chuckled. “It’s cute” I said smiling. “No it’s not” he said pouting. “Yes it is” I said reassuring him. “No it’s not, at least yours looks like me, mine is just a stick” he huffed. “It’s okay Trent, now stop acting like a big baby” I laughed.

He smiling and pounced on me. Hugging me as we rolled around on the picnic blanket. “Trent stop, I’m messing up my hair” I said smiling. He then lifted his head up and looked at me. He was on top of me and he looked so gorgeous in the sunlight, the light hitting his delicate bit soft features made him look more handsome than he already was. I lifted my head and kissed him. Gripping his back with one hand and toying with his locs with the other. He deepened the kiss. The kiss was filled with so much passion and hunger than when we broke it off we were both out of breath. “I love you y/n” he says looking at me and putting a hand on my cheek. “I love you too trent” I said smiling up at him. He then kissed me and again, this kiss more passionate but gentle. He then got off of me and sat me back up. He fixed my hair and I smiled. After a while me and Trent packed up everything in the picnic basket and decided to take a walk.

After a while the sun started to set. There was a lake at the park we were at so we decided to sit at the benches near it. The sunset was beautiful. “Hey we should take a picture” I said. “Alright!” He agreed. We sat my phone down on the bench, Set the time for ten seconds and stood in front of the sunset. “Quick what pose should we do?” I said. Trent just grabbed my face and kissed me. I melted into the kiss. *click* the picture was taken. It came out perfectly.

“I love you so much trent” I said looking at him. “I love you more” he said smiling. He then kissed my forehead. After that we walked back to the car and headed to my apartment.

Once we got inside, Trent decided that he wanted to sleep over so we both changed into comfier clothes and decided to watch a movie. After a while I fell asleep.

I woke up to Trent being asleep next to me. I was in his arms and I didn’t want to wake him up so I stayed. I picked at my phone and looked at the time.

*1:00 am*

I sighed. I opened Instagram and tapped through stories til one caught my attention. I gasped and jolted up which caused Trent to wake up. “What happened baby?“ he asked. “Look” I said shoving my phone into his face. He looked at it which squinted eyes then relaxed his eyes, his face shocked. “Oh my days” he said. I laughed. “Leia really went partying with Jude, I thought she was just joking” I said. “Wait she told you she was going to?” Trent asked. “Yea” i said. Hé chuckled. “I’m glad she’s having fun though” I said smiling as I tapped through leias story. “Me too” Trent said.

Later that day I woke up. Trent was still asleep so I left the couch and went to get ready for the day. Today was the day Trent was leaving. I wiped the tears forming in my eyes. Even though I’ve only know him for a few weeks, I really like him. I started doing my skin care to take my mind off him.

I left the bathroom after I finished getting ready and woke Trent up. “Come on, let’s go” I said grabbing Trent’s car keys. “Go where?” He asked groggily. “To your place, you’re leaving today Trent” I said. You’re leaving today Trent. I looked down at the floor. “Oh right” he said. Trent went to the bathroom and freshened up. When he got out, I passed him his car keys and we left to go to his house.

Once we got there someone familiar opened the door. “Leia?!” I shrieked. “Hey y/n, hey Trent” she said opened the door wider revealing Jude behind her. He waved. “Oh my-“ Trent started. “- god” I finished. Leia and Jude just laughed. “Come in” Leia said. Once we got in, I grabbed Leia and dragged her away from the boys. “What’s going on here?” I asked. “What? I can’t be at a friends house” she said folding one of Jude’s shirts that was in her hand. I looked down at the shirt. “What happened last night?” I asked. “Nothing, we just partied and I crashed here.” She said nonchalantly. “Nothing happened? You’re literally folding his clothes rn” I said. She looked flustered. “Okay maybe we did kiss but nothing more” she said. I looked at her sternly then relaxed my face and laughed. “Alright Leia” I said rolling my eyes. She giggling and put her arm over my shoulder and walked back over to the boys.

The boys flight was at 3 and we finished packing at 12. “We should go out and grab brunch” Jude suggested. We all agreed and out. I begged Trent to drive his car, he hesitated but let me drive it in the end. Brunch was fun, we joked around the whole time and the food was great.

“Alright time to go” I said looking at the time, it was 1:25 pm. We packed up our things, thanked the cashiers and headed out. We took some pictures outside then we got in the car. Trent drove this time and we headed to LAX airport.

We got out the car.

*1:45 pm*

Me and Leia helped the boys get their luggage out the car. After we did, Leia ran to Jude and hugged him. Leia cried and it made me start tearing up. Jude hugged Leia so tight and his eyes started tearing up too. I then looked at trent. His eyes started watering. “Trent..baby” I said as I walked over to him and hugged him. “I’m going to miss you y/n, so so much” he said hugging me to tight. “I’m gonna miss you too trent” I said hugging him just as tight, fighting back my tears. He then let go of me and grabbed my face and kissed me. “I love you so much y/n” he said. “I love you too.” I responded. We both smiled and gave eachother another peck on the lips. We then separated and both looked at Jude and Leia. Jude was now holding Leia like she was a baby. Leias legs wrapped around Jude. They both looked like they didn’t want to let go. Me and Trent laughed. We then walked over to him.

“Come on guys” I said. Jude and Leia then separated and looked each other in the eyes for a moment. After that we came together in a big group hug. “I’m gonna miss you guys” Leia said, her voice shaky from crying. “We’re gonna miss you too” Trent and Jude say in union. We then separated and I went to hug Jude and Leia went to hug Trent. Trent then handed me his car keys. “Why’re you giving me these?” I asked. “The cars yours my love” he said. “Wait are you serious?” I asked. He nodded. It was my dream car. I squealed and hugged him tightly. “Thank you baby” I said. “No problem babe” he said. We did a quick peck on the lips and then me and Leia sent the boys off. We yelled goodbye and waved at the boys watching them leave. Leia cried and I held her.

Me and Leia headed back to my apartment. She decided to sleep over and we just hung out, talking about our memories with the boys and talking about our lives. We hugged, we cried and we laughed.

talk shop tuesday - what parts of Lucy Kenobi's arc are you looking forward to writing the most?

Oooh I love this question! In chronological order:

—I love ESB, so I'm really enjoying writing Lucy's story here 🥰 and especially since she gets to go to Cloud City with Han and Leia...I'm excited to write that especially!

—The end of ESB and the fallout of that is ofc going to be very emotional 😭 especially since Lucy will be none too kind to Lando in the aftermath for a bit. Her BROTHER got hurt, after all, and no matter how understandable Lando's reasons are...she can't forgive Luke being hurt

—Lucy & Astra get some focus early in the ESB fic, and post-ESB too! Writing their wingman dynamic is so fun 🥰 so excited for y'all to read more of it

—Lucy's Jedi journey post-ESB is gonna be fun to write too! She's actually fully trained before Luke is (since Luke left in the middle of his, while Lucy stays for her full training and finishes before Luke returns to Dagobah)

—On that note, post-ROTJ, she's the one who finishes Luke's training 💞 and they both train Leia (who gets to be fully trained, unlike canon)! Very excited to write that

—Lucy raising Rey on Jakku 🥺 from what little I've written of them, I love them already (and since Lucy has a "British"* accent, that explains how Rey comes to have one too. Ofc Rey in canon probably picked it up from Unkar Plutt, but here, she picks it up from Lucy)

*British by our standards, but probably some form of Coruscanti by theirs? Whatever tf Obi-Wan's accent is classified as in their terms

There are a couple others, but...to give specific details would be spoiling 👀 but for now, these are the parts I most look forward to writing/sharing!

Hmm, I don't think I've ever read a fic wherein Anakin gets professional help for his myriad of issues. Looked through my bookmarks and found some where he does work through his trauma and straightens out that rat-on-a-wheel he calls a brain, though:

This was no time for sadness. The war had ended; the darkness had lost. A new life was being born, right here and now, in the ashes of the old one. alternatively: after their relationship is made public, Anakin and Padmé try to re-discover their happy ending on Naboo

One where Anakin kills Palpatine rather than join him, and has to figure out his life from there, all written from Sola's POV

Anakin Falls…Then stops, thinks, gets mad, and saves the galaxy. But that doesn’t mean he’s out of hot water just yet. Or; Following Palpatine’s assassination, Anakin and Padmé hide out on Naboo to fix their marriage and prepare for parenthood, while the Order hunts for the Fallen Jedi, and Obi-Wan angsts over the fate of his former padawan. Or; Yet Another Schmoopy “Everyone Lives” AU that literally no one asked for; in which the most Our Heroes have to contend with are Decades of Emotional Baggage, Overreaching Monks, Unrequited Love, and Colicky Infants. But who’s to say none of that isn’t just as terrifying as a megalomaniacal despot?

the way so many people are complaining, like, “this season lacked of stakes” (because there was no death??) and it’s like... when did we become so addicted to cynical pieces of media, expecting characters to die, for a story to have “stakes” or any emotional payoff? why, tf, are there people who can’t settle for a (temporary, because there is a s4) clear-cut happy ending? and i find it particularly ironic considering s1 and s2 also end up on a clear-cut happy ending but somehow it wasn’t “a lack of stakes” back then... *rolls eyes* i just feel like so many people forgot what star wars is: star wars is luke and han strolling randomly around an imperial base and finding leia just chilling even tho she is the rebellion’s leader. them escaping because obi wan bee-booped the right button. star wars is a bunch of teddy bears saving the galaxy. star wars is anakin skywalker pressing random buttons on a spaceship as a 10 years old and winning a war just like that. star wars is jar jar dropping a ball out of sheer clumsiness and zapping a whole bunch of droids just like that. star wars is grogu being captured by imperial guards on episode 7 of season 1 and being rescued by ig-11 not even 2 minutes into the final episode. star wars is nanny ig-11 just zooming around nevarro destroying the whole imperial army without a scratch to him or yknow, the baby he carried with him. did people forget how the other two seasons were also completely “lacking dramatic stakes”??? because they’re just there, i watched the two previous seasons just before s3 and let me tell you: they’re the same. the arc is the same: grogu (din on s3) gets taken on the penultimate (or one before on s2) episode, somehow the search party does everything right and everything is solved by the end of the season. even more than that, on s1 kuiil dies on episode 7, here, paz vizsla dies on episode 7. so. no death??? why is it a problem now? like?? no stakes?? a whole exiled people finding their rightful place on their planet and ridding their homeworld of the invader that is the empire, wasn’t enough for y’all?? like i get it, y’all love the depressing era of andor and all, which is fine, to each their own. but why does it prevent other shows of just being what they want to be? yknow, potentially goofy and yknow, actually hopeful? because we know how cassian andor ends up. he dies. it’s horrible, it’s sad, it’s depressing. like, are we really out there pretending that din and grogu’s storyline wouldn’t be as fullfilling because they don’t die in what is basically an atomic explosion or something???

Every time I reread the Guides verse I'm of course stunned by how amazing it is. The humanity of the characters, the richness of the culture, the engaging plot, it's all absolutely fantastic. But also it's a truly Shakespearean comedy and I adore it for that. The dramatic irony of it all makes me giggle every time. Luke has like, five different identities and just doesn't bother to mention the last name that would reveal the entire conspiracy. Vader, Mr. War Crimes himself, grows to love Luke as his son entirely unaware that Luke is his blood son. Obi-wan and Bail think Vader knows the truth and is trying to turn poor innocent Luke to the Dark Side or might even kill him. Vader is planning to make Luke Heir to the Empire. Luke does not know this either, and in fact does not realize even when everyone around him figures it out. Leia, Luke and Vader co-exist in the same room together, without violence and ignorant of their blood ties. Somehow, across the vastness of space and their respective positions, and by the grace of Space Youtube, father finds not the daughter who was hidden in the literal Imperial Court but the son that was hidden on a planet who's only distinctive known characteristics were sand and how much Vader hated even thinking about it (except for, you know, the badass secret religion of which Luke is a devoted warrior monk of dedicated to freeing slaves and taps into a similar something to the Force). Obi-wan handed Luke off to Owen thinking he'd be raised an simple farmboy safe from the Empire. Luke became a Runner and joined the Empire right under Obi-wan's nose with his aunt and uncle's approval. Palpatine has Luke in his throne room and they small talk with like ten different layers of subtext that I'm pretty sure neither entirely understood. Obi-wan and Bail are living in a permanent state of distress and no one else knows just how badly their plan screwed up. No one else in the galaxy knows what tf is going on with Luke Lars, some random kid from the Outer Rim who just revolutionized the stormtrooper armour, but the memes are great. I could go on, it's just hit after hit and I don't know how you keep track of everything people do and do not know but it's wonderful.

As I often say: all good comedy is only two steps removed from tragedy. And, of course, the same is true vice versa.

The Guides runs on this stuff, and I can't even begin to tell you how many more layers of absolutely ludicrously dramatic irony there is to everything about Luke and Vader. Absolutely no one has the full picture here. No one. The one who possibly knows the most is Vader, and you've seen his PoV. Everyone is an unreliable narrator, and no one knows it.

Everyone has their own agenda, and yet, barely anyone seems to realize that everyone has their own agenda, with the person most consistently dodging suspicion of having one being Luke. The sheer fact that the rising star within the Empire, known to be mysterious and having suddenly appeared as if out of thin air, still manages to avoid being suspected or having designs on pretty much anything outside of Vader's will, is wild. The fact that someone so clearly rising in power could be thought not to be playing the game while he's redefining it is so stupid it shouldn't be allowed and yet—

And don't even get me started on all the interactions of everyone's agendas, that's a whole 'nother layer of ironies upon ironies. Honestly, it's irony all the way down and that just how I like it.
