I got curious, so I did a bit of “research”
The most popular fic in English is an NSFW (incredibly raunchy, wow) Guardians of the Galaxy fic with 128.179 kudos.
In Mandarin, it is a mature RPF fic of the actors from The Untamed that resulted in AO3 being blocked in Mainland China. It currently has 26.916 kudos
For Spanish, the prize goes to an explicit omegaverse & mpreg The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System fic with 3.245 kudos
Indonesian gives us a BTS college AU with 1.569 kudos and French stays on the bandom vibes by giving us an explicit One Direction dystopian story. But the band rpf award goes to Tagalog* ***, with their first page (sorted by kudos) being all Kpop (ENHYPEN, EXO & SEVENTEEN) and no-fandom.
(For those curious, Korean has a low amount of Kpop rpf on their first page. I assume they publish it somewhere else)
Egyptian Hieroglyphics (which, yes, is an option on AO3) gives us a beautiful song translation with an impressive 495 kudos. I really recommend everyone check it out; it is incredible. Welsh** (160) and Old English (222) also had their most popular work have an English translation. Latin (124), on the other hand, is just fully in Latin. There are a few translations, but they are provided by other people and not the original author.
Greek has a lot of Greek political RPF. Like, a lot.
I was incredibly surprised by the fact that you can write fanfiction in Quebecois sign language. I was not surprised at all by the fact that Sindarin was an option.

A few of the languages had their most popular stories not be in that language and just be a case of mislabelling (or, in some cases, people using less-used languages on AO3 as dumping grounds for tests or personal notes.) Also, there were a couple of languages with no stories at all.
If you have been thinking about writing fic in a language other than English, take this as a call for action. There are a lot of people out there reading in all sorts of languages. Even in languages with only a couple kudos, those are a couple of people who are incredibly happy to find a story of a media they love in a language they love too.

* Filipino*** is the standardized version of Tagalog and the way Ao3 refers to the language, which is why that is the word used instead of Tagalog. Feel free to reach out if there is a better way to word that sentence.
** Welsh was included next to Old English as they both had English translations, and not as an implication that it is a dead language. Welsh is a living, thriving language with more than half a million speakers.

I'm Italian and a new follower, ever since I saw the region where Machete is from I can't stop calling him Carmelo in my head since it's a pretty common name there and Vasco speaks with a Tuscan accent in my head now( I love how they pronounce the letter C even if people sometimes makes fun of them for that)
It's always really fun hearing about any Italians that like my work and characters, because you guys obviously have the insider knowledge I (a Finnish person) am not privy to. If you say Machete looks like a Carmelo I have hard time doing anything but nodding and going "ah yes, sounds legit, you probably know your Carmelos better than I do".
#Italian in it's standard form sounds pretty distinct to me it's relatively easy to identify it#but there's no way I'd be able to differentiate between all the regional accents/dialects/languages#answered#anonymous#for comparison I can't tell spoken Swedish Norwegian and Icelandic apart reliably#even though they're our neighbors and I hear them pretty regularly and I'm technically supposed to be able to speak Swedish#on top of that I'm always mixing up Danish and Dutch

Granted, Bowser's stature might indeed appear smaller in the body-swap tangent, but that's because Mario is always hunched over and crouching. The real Bowser, on the other hand, stands at his full height with his back straight and his head held above his shoulder line. But if we look at the two side by side, the characters are actually the same size in both instances!
Pretty cool, the difference one's posture makes, huh?^^

ancient magus' bride season 2: anime vs manga comparison
According to the fan and the official English translations, Elias never called Chise a child in the manga (here's a good post from blue-inspiration-blog about that too).
Was the line changed to compensate for this panel that didn't fit in the anime? Or did the creators actually want Elias to call Chise a child?
(this is ch 66, wanted to find it in Japanese but it's no longer available on comicgrowl. If any of you read the chapter in Japanese or official translation to any other language, please tell us how it was translated there!)

Trying to transliterate Leara's name into Quenya, and it somehow becomes, uh,
Lëarra
Which basically means "You Sealion!"
And I'm just, "Oh yes, this is That Sealion Woman, and she can breathe fire, as all sealions do."
If Leara, for any reason at all, needed an actual Quenya or Sindarin name for any fun Elvish shenanigans, we'll just use Calairie/Calearil, which is "Light of the Sea" in Quenya and Sindarin, and what Leara actually means.

There's just a lot of things that happened this season (season 4) that could connect back to LBD.

Main things here:
There's several times where LBD refers to playing "a game" and that people and other things are "pieces" of that game
The Jade Emperor tells Azure that he is just a piece in a game. What is this game? Who are the players? LBD and the Emperor? Someone else? The mystery person with the scroll? The Mayor? Where is he???
LBD also tells Monkey King, Macaque and Mk at different points that she will rip/undo/erase the memories of them. How was she planning on doing that? Oh hello Ancient Scroll of Memory that is in the Underworld.
Oh underworld you say? Ya know, I wonder if that was the "beyond" the Mayor was referring to when he said that LBD would use the Samadhi fire to cleanse the celestial realm and beyond. I mean, the fire IS an Inter-dimensional weapon after all.
There is twice that LBD refers to MK as a monkey. Does she know? Did she know that MK was a stone monkey all along??? Does that have anything to do with the weird blue wisps during MK's transformation?
I'm now realizing that I forgot to add a piece of info, but its over all not super important. But she tells Macaque at one point that he "refused the Path of Destiny, and so there will be Pain". But she tells MK that the pursuit of what you think is right will only lead to pain.
She also tells Mei (which MK overhears) while possessing Monkey King, that they (Mei and the other Heroes) are Agents of Chaos, which LBD wants to eradicate, and that in doing so will get rid of disorder and Destruction. Meanwhile the ink curse tells MK that he's nothing but a Harbinger of Chaos who will cause nothing but Chaos and Destruction. Is it simply using LBD's words to get in his head or is there something more there?
also the symbols on the scroll are the same symbols that LBD uses and which surrounded her when she was locked away. Does that mean anything? Is it just the language of the underworld? Is it just a language the animation crew uses on repeat because they have it? or is LBD connected to the scroll?

Ok! So. After the in game sexy squiddy times thing, I can’t help but view tentacle holding as *very* intimate. As such… I wonder if Gg grabbing emp’s tentacle when he first met him in squid form didn’t help Emps have *feeling* and if this here in the recent comic is something like an awkward smooch

Whatever love language Greyg and Emps trial-and-errored off-screen together while fiddling at fuddling during that one astral plane time is between them and whatever Orpheus couldn't mentally shut out.
I like to think tentacle-holding isn't always equivalent to romantic intimacy. Maybe not to Greygold anyway. Because if Greygold can't high-five with their tentacle, a high-tent if you will, their bud without somebody blushing, Greygold is gonna be flabbergasted.
Maybe there's a casual way to tentacle-holding and a hollywood-esque romantically-charged way to tentacle-holding. Which one is which though? Hell if I know.

Sitting here wishing my ADHD was more severe just so people could realise I actually have a problem-
#adhd#probably adhd#undiagnosed neurodivergent#undiagnosed adhd#stuff like this makes me doubt if i have adhd at all#i tried to explain how when i was doing my gcse preparations i would take a day to do an essay#“oh it takes us a whole week”#NO THATS NOT WHAT I MEAN#I HAD A WEEK TO DO IT BUT I LEFT IT TO THE LAST DAY#ON THE LAST DAY I COULDNT PROCESS THE QUESTION#I KNEW WHAT IT WANTED. I KNEW WHAT I SHOULD WRITE. BUT I ALSO DIDNT#i love english. both language and literature#but it would take me hours to even work out what i was supposed to write unless it was under timed exam conditions#when it was timed the panic would put me into hyperdrive#but i only realised last night that maybe taking a full day to work out what to write on a simple essay might not be normal#but then people point out that this kinda thing is normal and i just. dont know.#do i have adhd or am i just giving myself excuses for being slow#or do i expect others to be so much faster and see myself as slow in comparison#im so sure i have adhd but i dont know either

Thanks to the Cass asl post I've been able to figure out what bugs me about that trope beyond the racism. It's the fandom laziness where instead of putting any sort of thought into how this disabled character navigates the world you write her disability as convenient and palatable as possible, 9 times out of 10 so she can be a completely defanged side character in service to the white men in her family. The popularity of the trope even before the Young Justice TV show watered her character down is just yet another example of batfamily fanon not giving a shit about the source material, and instead (especially for the non white female characters) transforming it into something worse.
(This post is not about actual fans who engage with the Cass using sign language trope. More how her character, or lack of it, in the bland and boring batfamily tumblr/ao3 fanon is impacted by this being commonly headcanoned as her default state of communication. And how instead of being uplifting disability representation it becomes a tool for misogyny and racism.)
