New musings on Kalin: he seems to need a purpose to be happy. In the Enforcers era, he was determined and extroverted and very happy defeating all the Duel Gangs in the Satellite. But once they were all beaten, suddenly Kalin didn’t have a purpose any more. He had to look for a new one and things started going downhill from there. He targeted innocent kids, inventing the idea that they were potentially dangerous, and later went for the big one, Sector Security. That all unraveled into complete chaos.
As a Dark Signer, Kalin had a purpose again, but it was dark and twisted, a product of his misunderstanding about Yusei as well as the darkness corrupting him. He reveals later that what he had really wanted was just to see the others again and fight one more duel with them. Instead, the darkness twisted him into the insane creature he became.
When he finally came back to himself, he was not only wracked with grief and guilt, he once again had no purpose. He decided he had to atone for his wrongdoings and went to Crash Town to try to do this. His purpose became his own self-destruction.
Kalin, however, at his core is a protective person. He needs things to protect. It’s when he feels he doesn’t have this that he seems to start tipping off the deep end and becoming dangerous and destructive. Once Yusei and the kids reach this side of him again and he realizes he actually can do something, he perks right up. He becomes the fighter he once was and has the strength to topple Lawton’s control over the town.
When Crash Town is free, Kalin decides to stay on. Why wouldn’t he? He has what he was searching for all these years. The town will need help rebuilding and being protected and the kids need looking after. Kalin will have years of protecting ahead of him.
It’s semi-popular in the fandom to have Kalin move to the City, sometimes with the kids, sometimes not. I totally get wanting him to be with Yusei and the others again, but given Kalin’s need to protect and have a purpose, I’m honestly not sure he would like living in the City. He would be happy to be with his other loved ones, but I think he would feel directionless and lost and might even start spiraling downward again. Maybe he would instead find a way to pool his protective nature into a new career in the City. Maybe Crow would encourage him to join Sector Security. (Would he, though?) I definitely think the only way he could be truly happy in the City would be if he found more purpose in protecting.
The problem with the concept is that he already has something to protect in the town. He expresses a very strong desire to stay there at the end of the arc, and the one time we see him afterwards, he’s still there and seems happy. It’s hard for me to think that he would leave it unless for some reason he felt he had nothing left there, nothing to protect and no reason to stay. And honestly, that is a depressing thought. Kalin is finally happy at the end of the Crash Town arc. I feel the best thing for him is to stay on and live his best life as the town’s sheriff/mayor/etc., looking after the kids and enjoying what he has.

Who are some of the guys from the taimanin franchise?
Since i'm more than halfway through Action's playable characters, i figured i could do a post a bit different today.
So, we'll look at some of the guys:
Kiryu Sabato
To describe him shortly, coward, evil, pervert and amoral. He worked for Nomad for a time, creating many of the organization's drugs and biological weapons, having a great interest in modfying/experimenting on who he can. After being nearly killed by Murasaki, he accepted to work for the taimanin as part of his prison sentence, as he is still regarded as a brillant scientist.
Why i present him: he was mentionned in the ingrix/jack rp, and makes an appearance in some items description in Action taimanin
Akiyama Tatsuro
He is the younger brother of Akiyama Rinko who is in love with him (and is exceedingly bad at hiding it), he's also Yukikaze's boyfriend.
He's a minor character otherwise, being a junior Taimanin, but his importance has been greatly reduced in Action, where he's basically just mentionned a couple of times.
Why I mention him: I recieved a couple of asks abotu him, so eh.
Sawaki Kyousuke
Asagi's former boyfriend. Only appears in the prequel where he's killed by Oboro (Oboro uses him as a human shield during her fight against Asagi). After that his appearances are either just mentions or flashback, he basically existed to give Asagi a tragic backstory.
Why I mention him: Felt like it.
Fuuma Kotaro
main protagonist of the various gacha spin-offs. Because he's the protagonist in Action (and to entice weebs), he's basically forming a harem of the taimanin girls, which is why the other men are barely mentionned.
He has no power (beign one of the few Taimanin who can't use Ninja Art) and as such his battlefield role is of a supportive commander, ording things from the backline. LInked to the Fuuma clan history (that i briefly mentionned in Kurenai's post), he's als Kurenai's cousin, the one who convinced Noah to join the taimanin in exchange of food... basically your typical harem MC.

Name: Aki Izayoi.
Age: 21.
Gender: Female.
Alias: (former)Witch of The Black Rose, (current) N/A.
Powers: Psychic powers of unknown origin, otherworldly abilities born from exposure to radioactive stardust.
Realm: a small church decorated with rose imagery.
Weapon: depending on her mood, but most common are a rose thorn whip, a pair of blackened daggers, an demonic axe, and a shining silver sword.
Appearance: long black hair with highlights of red, silver and gold, pale skin, crimson eyes.
Short story: Aki Izayoi was a famed Psychic Duelist from Neo Domino City. Her two closest friends, Yusei Fudo and Jack Atlas, were like brothers to her. One day, a rare Twin-Binary Star, the rarest in existence, went supernova.
The resulting explosion and superheated radiation destroyed everything in its path, including Aki’s world. While the blast did not rip the world apart, it did throw it into a permanent nuclear winter of ash and snow.
By some cruel miracle, Aki survived by taking refuge in the old church on the edge of town. However, Yusei and Jack, along with Crow Hogan and Kiryu Kyousuke, disappeared, despite following Aki to the church. The rest of the city’s inhabitants turned into horrific monsters, preying on any unfortunate soul.
It was during an encounter with one of these abnormal beasts that Aki learned the truth of her friends’ fate. The overexposure of radioactive stardust had alter their DNA, causing the four men to be fused with Aki. This, paired with her psychic abilities, had made Aki a Apex Predator of the wasteland.
Facts: Yusei, Jack, Crow, Kiryu and Aki are all able to switch between control of the physical body, with the main being Aki.
Due to the abnormal fusion of their DNA, Aki’s body has been altered; possessing a pair of large black bat-like wings that turn into secondary arms when not in use. All four arms plus her legs are decolored to the elbows and knees, these same limbs also possess razor sharp talons. She also possesses a tail.
Aki’s hair had grown over the years, now reaching the tips of her fingers when her arms are at rest. Her original dark red hair had turned black, yet hues of red, sliver and gold still shine in the right lighting. Her bangs often obscure her face.
Aki is able to control shadows (Umbrakinesis), metal (Ferrokinesis), fire (Pyrokinesis), plant (Chlorokinesis) electricity (Electrokinesis) and blood (Hematokinesis). All abilities are powered by Aki’s Psychokinesis. She also has the ability to use magic, though she prefers not to as it effects her psychic powers.
The overexposure of radioactive stardust had altered Aki’s body so much, that it granted her immortality. However this was a curse, as both Aki and the men had slowly been driven mad due to the lack of outside human interaction. They all still hold on to their original personalities, but one wrong move could set them off. When angered, The mens’ voices accompany Aki’s, giving the impression that Aki is more than one person.
All five love to play games, they favor the classic table games like cards, dice, chess, etc. However, if they catch their opponent cheating, the cheater is eaten.
Aki and the others can and do enjoy eating normal food, but eating raw flesh boosts their powers, though the owners of said flesh tends to be the monsters of the wasteland.

I was going to write up a Tumblr post on the names of Radley's and Malcolm's gangs, how they differ between original and dub versions, and the ironic significance of said names.
Instead, Dracula Daily happened and I was so upset I had to get out my feelings in a scene for one of my current fic chapters:
He took out his phone to idly look up exorcisms and other ways to remove restless spirits, but frowned at a notification. ". . . Of all the things to show up right now, I've got a reminder about Dracula Daily starting soon."
". . . What is that?" Kalin grunted. "It sounds like something Scotch would like, but not you."
"It's an email list that feeds you pieces of the novel Dracula each day," Radley said. "It's told as diary entries, letters, and newspaper clippings, and they're sent out on each corresponding day that the entries were originally made in the book. And you're right, it wouldn't normally be my thing. Scotch told me about lots of friendship goodness and got me interested enough to try it last year."
"So did you like it?" Kalin asked.
"Yes and no," Radley replied. "I loved the friendships and other pure love between the characters, but I got so upset by Lucy's fate that it could never be a favorite book for me."
"You cared that much about her?" Kalin sounded disbelieving.
". . . Let me guess, you watched a movie version as a Dark Signer but never read the book," Radley said.
"You're right," Kalin said.
"It seems like all the movies portray Lucy as trashy," Radley said. "She was actually incredibly sweet. She sure never deserved all that Dracula put her through, and then to not be able to get her happy ending. I kept hoping that even after she became a vampire, she could be saved when Dracula was killed. Instead, they had to kill her to stop her." He shook his head. "It was extremely disturbing. I wonder if that's why they changed her in the movies, because you're right that it's much less disturbing if she's a naughty girl anyway."
". . . Scotch seems like the type who'd be upset by a nice character being hurt too," Kalin said.
"He is," Radley said. "He'd read a lot of Internet hype about the friendships. Last year was his first time reading it too. I think he got more upset than I did. After he finished the book, he wrote a fanfiction story where the Harkers meet The Time Traveler—from The Time Machine, you know?—and they go back in time to save Lucy. It was actually really good. Scotch said he insists on believing that's really how the story continued." He smiled. "Scotch loves happy endings for those who deserve them."
". . . That's an interesting premise," Kalin had to admit.
Radley nodded. "It's actually pretty plausible, considering both books take place around the same time and the Harkers and The Time Traveler all live in London. Why not have them meet?"
