If Levi had learned anything while living with Kenny—well, everything was an opportunity to learn. He learned that as soon as he ate his second-ever meal after meeting Kenny. He had been sat down in front of him at a table in a real kitchen in a real dilapidated little hideout, but that first time Levi stuffed his face with bread at that bar was the only time Kenny ever fed him.
During that second meal, Kenny suddenly reached across the table and smacked him, making him flinch. Levi quit chewing and stared at Kenny, confused and a little scared.
“Levi. Lesson one: Don’t stuff food down your throat. First”—Kenny held up a long finger—“You’ll choke. Second”—he raised another—“You’re fucking tiny, skin n’ bones, and pale as a damn ghost. You look dead already, but you don’t want ‘em to know you’re starvin’, too. Act like you got your shit together.”
Levi was starving—he was still so hungry, even though he met Kenny yesterday—that the speech almost entirely went over his head. He chewed slowly, peering up at Kenny across the table through a thick veil of bangs.
He pondered the ‘them’ he had to make sure didn’t know he was starving. The bumbling pig of a man who always told Momma what to do, whose talking voice he never heard because he was always yelling, who he learned to hide from after… who…
Levi didn’t want to think about her.
“Like a man?” he asked.
Kenny leaned back in his seat with his arm thrown over the chair back. Levi thought he looked pretty cool. “Like anybody.”
As young as he was, he already knew too well that nobody cared about anybody down here. But still: Even you? Levi wanted to ask, but had Kenny saved him, so of course the answer was no.
Instead he quietly asked, “...Am I holding it wrong too?”
Levi was holding a brick-hard loaf of bread.
Kenny blinked blandly at him. “If you were on the Surface, yeah people’d point and laugh at ya. Down here, protect your food, Levi.”
People Above must’ve had access to plenty of food, then, which was such a strange concept that Levi stopped chewing. They sounded so alien to him. Just how he pictured a living fish swimming through some water Above (lakes or streams or ponds… which he didn't know the difference between) compared to the fleshy rotted ones he saw once being sold at the markets he used to go to.
Levi felt other to Above people then, and he always would. Kenny never let him forget that they’d always look down on someone like Levi—unless he proved them wrong.
“How?” He’d one day ask.
“Idiot. By kickin’ their asses. Make ‘em piss themselves. With power… you can get anything you want in this world.”
That conversation would come later. For now he put the idea of being pointed and laughed at out of his mind. He’d never go Above to have that happen to him.
Kenny spoke again. “Lesson two, while I’m at it: Don’t give me that shitty look when I discipline you for doin’ somethin’ stupid. Don’t be a brat. In fact, don’t flinch like you just did.”
He was confused. “But I… couldn’t help it.”
Opening his mouth was a mistake. Kenny knocked him upside the head, so hard—or maybe Levi being so weak—that he rocked in his chair, his hand flying up to his ear. It felt numb and weirdly hot.
“Don’t back talk me, you brat. You don’t know shit about shit yet, so lemme tell ya: You can, and you will.”
Tumblr media
Kenny was never more lenient with his lessons than he’d been from the start. There were many of all kinds, because Kenny took it upon himself to teach him how to survive: How to tell who was a threat, if he was being followed, whether food had rotted or was poisoned, how to haggle a deal to get exactly what he wanted (which Levi failed at consistently, no matter how hard he tried; he didn’t know what to say or how to make his tone sound convincing, thus Kenny put twice as much pressure on him to wield his knife), how to walk and how to carry himself—but Kenny’s main goal was always to make Levi strong.
He even made Levi cut his hair on his own. He finds it disturbing now how much that shocked him then. “Brat,” Kenny muttered as he fished some sheers out of a drawer in the bathroom. “Kuchel must’ve spoiled you rotten.”
Levi kept quiet and his head down, his fists curled by his sides. His bangs flopped pitifully over his eyes, long enough to tickle his nose. The more he was reminded of Momma, the less he wanted to think about her. It hurt, all the time, and he blamed himself. It was his fault for being too reliant on her not to leave their room, and too weak to make someone help. If he’d just been strong enough, he could have done something—at least to ease her pain.
Not that Kenny talked about her much. He stopped talking about her at all when Levi once pointed out a hunched figure at the building stoop and asked what was wrong with her legs. They were atrophied to the bone, and trembling all over.
“There’s a chance somethin’ goes wrong with yer legs if you go all yer life without seein’ the sun.”
Levi, at this point used to the sight of bodies, evenly faced ahead again. “Oh. Okay.”
“Is that how yer mom went? Tell me takin’ your scrawny ass in wasn’t a waste of time if yer legs are gonna give out anyway.”
Levi hastened to put together a worthy answer. It wouldn’t kill him if he didn’t want to answer that question, but he wanted to please Kenny, especially in case he talked more about what she was like before Levi was born.
“No,” Levi answered haltingly. “I actually coulda done something. If I was like you.”
Kenny stopped walking, so Levi stopped too. His face was twisted in a disgusted grimace. “Tch. Well you didn’t, and you aren’t. You oughta not turn into a guy like me anyway. You’d be one annoying bastard.”
Oh. Levi grasped for information about Momma instead. “Did she not like you?”
“Ha…” Kenny looked wistful for a second. “Forget it. She’s dead, kid. End of story.”
It was time to keep moving. Kenny surprised Levi by briefly ruffling his hair before pushing him to get a move-on.
Which came with the expectation of being able to keep up with Kenny when Levi only reached as tall as his waist. Naturally this earned him names. Mostly 'shorty’, and Kenny’s laughter when Levi insisted he’d get taller if Kenny just gave him a fucking chance. By the last time Levi ever saw his retreating back, his height had stagnated at around Kenny’s stomach.
Some lessons were harsher than others. The most pain Levi had ever experienced was at Kenny’s expense, but he learned so brutally well because Kenny was brutal—not that he was capable of being gentle.
And Levi never doubted his intentions. Kenny must’ve picked him up when Levi was inches from death’s door for some reason.
Even sleep was a lesson which Levi would learn.
After Kenny took him in, it was strange. Levi slept more restlessly than he’d ever had in his short life. When he woke up, he’d sometimes be crying and not know why, swiftly wiping the tears away, angry at his body for betraying him. He mused that he had slept better when his body was physically struggling to function, after those countless days with desert-like saliva caked in his mouth, and dozing, not eating.
Kenny didn’t afford him any luxury whatsoever, but Levi had a mattress to sleep on with a pretty thick cotton blanket. He was once breaking over the edge of sleep when he was ripped to wakefulness by being snatched around his middle, pinned on his stomach, and below him appeared a blade that glinted in the darkness, reflected off the faint glow of streetlamps outside.
Gasping, Levi elbowed his assailant in the stomach—like he’d been taught to do if someone ever got his back. He’d never been so relieved to hurt Kenny, though when he was dropped, it seemed much more like Kenny letting him than Levi genuinely catching him off guard.
“You’re too damn slow.”
Levi whirled around, kicked the blanket away and backed up against the wall, staring at him wide-eyed. Blood spotted Kenny’s trenchcoat, where he crouched evenly, staring back like Levi was an idiot.
“Huh?”
Kenny punctured the mattress with his blade, making him jump. “Don’t be stupid, Levi. You think someone’s gonna wait to attack you just 'cause you’re asleep? When your guard’s down is the best chance anyone’s got of killin’ you.
"Don’t gimme that look. I’m teachin’ you a lesson, here.”
Levi was fully awake now. He thought of defending himself by saying he kept his knife under his pillow, but either way, Kenny had gotten the drop on him. Levi would’ve died if he was anyone else, and he probably wouldn’t even know who killed him.
“So what do I do?” he spat, glaring defiantly. “Don’t fucking sleep?”
Kenny ignored him. At some point, because of Kenny or not, Levi stopped shrinking down when he was spoken down to. One day, his shitty attitude would be stuck to him all the time, even if he didn’t mean it. For twenty-some years, it didn’t benefit him to act polite.
“Be ready to defend yerself just like if you were awake.”
So Levi… exercised his rampant sleeplessness in a way. Even before his voice dropped he had had it hammered into him to be disciplined, and so he could discipline himself just as well.
Whenever he slept on the mattress, he tended to sleep deeply, and so he kept getting reprimanded for reacting too slowly after Kenny cut, kicked, or slapped him awake.
So came him sleeping sitting up in the back corner of his small room so he had full view of his surroundings. He figured out if he stopped using the blanket, he’d sleep lighter, and he did—but there was also something about sitting up against the wall.
He’d withstood her… decomposing for as long as possible, clinging to her. It had never even occurred to Levi to get up, because who else did he have in this world, back then? Everyone he could go to despised that he’d been born in a place like that, and the women looked after themselves, in the end. There was nothing they could do for him.
But her skin became cold and thin, stretched over her bones. Losing all color and luster, even her hair so she finally blended in with the dirty corners and damp walls. Smells started to rise, besides the stench of death he’d never forget, and little living things squirmed and began to eat her, and so Levi crawled out of the bed.
He can’t remember if he apologized or not for leaving her. He hopes he did.
Now sitting sat up in that same way, even though the place and time was different, made him constantly alert. He replaced his blanket with his knife, clasped in his hand at all times.
Night by night, Levi figured out how much sleep he needed in order to function. It was always hard to tell time of day in the Underground, so he tuned into his surroundings, and based starting the day on the people he could hear around outside when the day seemed to begin, at “dawn”—earlier than when Kenny gets him up. Over time, whenever Kenny tested him again, he would snap awake to him feet away, his knife instinctively raised.
Kenny laughed thickly. “You even look like I’m here to kill ya. Keep it up,” he said.
That was the last of Kenny’s lessons on sleep.
But Levi wouldn’t understand until later what lengths Kenny would really go to to make him strong. With the knowledge that Kenny was the strongest and most talked-about person in the Underground, Levi first tried to imitate him.
Levi didn’t often get to join Kenny to do… whatever he did when he was on his own. Only as far as Levi knew, Kenny spilled a lot of blood. One night when he’d came back, more blood than normal stained his coat, especially red near his shoulder.
But he seemed to be in a good mood while he drank from a tankard on the threadbare sofa, his booted feet kicked up on a stool. The rooms were connected in such a way that the room was open from there to the kitchen, so Levi watched him while he ate dinner, which was a mushy apple and a couple shreds of dried meat.
Even if Levi didn’t know all about what a drunk person looked, acted, and especially smelled like, the high, bitter stink of the alcohol was all over him. He was smiling to himself bitterly, and mumbled things between swigs that Levi couldn’t make out.
Silently, Levi took his tin cup of water, and placed it on the seat of an adjacent chair.
“Are you gonna drink all that, or what? I’m tired of smelling it.”
Kenny peeled his eyes open. Pushing his bangs back, he grinned drunkenly at him. “Hah? Oh, I see. You thirsty?”
“...Maybe.”
Levi was fairly confident that since he couldn’t draw the kind of respect from his strength that Kenny did, yet, if he copied him more then that got him one step closer. Plus, Levi wasn’t used to seeing someone drunk and happy at the same time, either. It was pleasantly strange.
Kenny leveled him with a lazy smirk, then hefted himself to his feet with another scoff. It didn’t seem like he was too drunk. He didn’t stumble on the way over, and firmly planted the tankard down in front of Levi, so hard a few drops flew out.
“Alright, boy. Try it. Maybe you’ll like it.”
It was filled with a bubbly-looking glazed liquid just under halfway, but it was a large tankard just the same.
Levi raised himself up and sat on his knees to be taller, and sniffed it warily.
Kenny leaned on the table, smiling lopsidedly. “Hurry up. You wanna act grown up, right?—You wanna be like me? Then drink it, Levi. If you don’t, that’ll really hurt my feelings,” he drawled.
This thinly-veiled threat didn’t go over Levi’s head, and especially not next to Kenny sniffing out Levi’s real intentions.
But it was unthinkable to back out now. He put on a straight face as he took it up by the sides, tilted it back, and then jolted as Kenny overturned it completely, dousing Levi’s nostrils and eyes.
It was disgusting. Cruelly sour but somehow tangy, suffocatingly thick. Beer stung his eyes, he coughed so hard his gag reflex started to flex, all the while Kenny laughed his ass off in the background. He flung the tankard at the wall, where it knocked off and rolled around sadly on the floor, like it was disappointed in Levi for not drinking it.
"Still wanna be like ol’ Kenny?” Kenny shambled forward and kicked Levi’s chair out, but this time he reacted in time. He dropped down just in time and took on a defensive stance, still coughing. “What about it? You wanna another drink?”
“Fuck off!” Levi rasped. “This is… a shitty lesson.”
Kenny looked over curiously, as if just noticing the damage he had caused. “Nah. This is a lesson in peer pressure. And also not bein’ a fucking idiot.”
Tumblr media
Levi focused on his training after that. Day and night, cuts and bandages, blades and flesh.
Levi’s hardest lesson would be the most rewarding in the end. One day, Kenny told him to get dressed, and he followed without any idea of where they were going.
So he asked: “Are we just gonna walk around all day and wait to get robbed?”
Kenny grinned down at him, the one that spread wide enough so that Levi could almost see his canines. “I’m gonna make you strong, rat. I think it's time.”
Levi frowned, but he felt a rare blip of excitement, too. He’d never been so direct, even though for these past few years, he’s always been teaching Levi to survive. This, for the first time, felt like it was leading up to something.
In the lower Underground districts, Levi felt confident walking alongside the strongest—and most intimidating—person in the whole world, or what might as well be. That underlying wet stink of blood, sewage, all things suffering that he could never get used to felt less suffocating then.
Especially in the lower districts where they were, where it hung much thicker, where the denizens were a lot more dangerous. This way was abandoned. Garbage lined the broken streets.
Levi had no idea where they were going, so he closed his hand on the knife in his pocket.
He counted the corners they turned. Left… right, right…….left…right…
The biggest man Levi had ever seen burst out from behind an abandoned cart—he knew this based solely on the sheer size of him, and it wasn’t in the fat way. One of his biceps was as big as Levi’s head.
The attacker charged at them—no, him! Levi easily used his height to his advance to dodge, but he did it so his back was towards the cart. A lithe woman with a face like a crow’s appeared from behind him and swept her leg out, meaning to trip him. He dodged once again, flipping backwards and landing easily on his feet.
“KENNY!” Levi snapped his head towards Kenny for support, but while the big man set his sights on Levi like a bull, Kenny leaned casually against the brick on the other side of the street, watching as if judging an apple to see if it was rotten.
The attackers didn’t even speak. One look was in their distant eyes, and it was dangerous. They meant to kill him.
The woman ripped out a knife and went for him again, but he was ready. This was no time to hesitate. He pulled her arm, yanked her down to his level, and kneed her in the chest. She made a noise like popping a paper bag before Levi sunk his blade into the side of her throat.
This was no time to hesitate.
He didn’t rip it out in time. With the ease of kicking a ragdoll, the big man kicked him. When the dirty cobblestone hit Levi, he actually bounced off it at first before landing.
Down came the man’s knuckles. For a split-second he could wonder how weird it was that his knuckles looked covered in armor when metal, brass, smashed his cheek. Pain exploded and gripped his head.
He cried out and tossed his head to the side. He couldn’t use his arms—his hands were pinned under his attacker’s knees.
Levi went with his leg. If he got it behind the man to kick him in the kidney, it would hurt like a bitch enough to for Levi to get an advantage—but the man was too big. He was like a monster.
Surprisingly, the next punch landed on Levi’s side, then his gut, coughing up all the air from his lungs. Instinctively his body bowed back, trying to get away, but he was trapped.
Levi tossed his head back for the woman’s corpse and his knife, but she was slumped over, his blade too far out of reach.
And as quickly as he looked, his attention was yanked back as the attacker nailed him in the chest, making him shout. Pain dense and dull shook his ribcage.
Out of options, Levi wrenched his head to the side. The man’s arm was braced beside his head. He sunk in his teeth, and ripped out a chunk of flesh.
Howling, the man punched him again. And again. And again. Until even the mind-numbing pain felt far away.
“Kenny, help…” Levi whimpered. Did he say that? Or just think it?
Two gunshots in quick succession split the air above, though it felt blocks away, and then Levi was being smothered by dead weight that had crashed on top of him.
He groaned miserably, heaving, and wiggled free with all the strength he had left, crawling like a worm. Somehow he succeeded, and lay on his side, coughing violently and smearing stinging blood from his eyes.
“Get up, Levi.”
Kenny’s voice sounded like it came from far away, too.
“Are you dead, or what? My friend there didn’t punch you in the legs.”
Kenny sighed, and disappointment was heavy in it. “By the way, you failed.”
The pain. The pain ate into Levi’s bones like a sickness, it was all he could think about. He had never hurt this bad. He didn’t think it was possible to fit this much pain into his body.
He forced himself to pull in deep breaths. Still. The knowledge that this had been the test, and that he’d failed somehow made it all hurt worse.
“Get up, rat,” Kenny ordered.
Kenny never repeated himself.
Levi slowly heaved himself to his hands and knees. Beads of sweat dripped off his forehead and landed on the cobblestone between his hands, and this sight was somehow more shameful than if—
No, he was bleeding too, bleeding from all over his face. He wasn’t just ashamed—he was totally fucking useless.
He shoved himself to his feet, swayed, then looked up at Kenny, who looked completely ambivalent to Levi’s blood and the two corpses some feet away.
“Don’t look at me. Get yer knife, you idiot,” he retorted.
“Right.” His voice was small, but firm. He straightened up, his fists curled tightly by his sides, and shuffled over to the corpse of the woman. When he crouched, he almost fell over.
Taking back his knife was easy, but it was as disgusting as the rest of him.
He wiped the blood off on her shirt in two simple strokes. If he didn’t keep himself looking as neat as possible, Kenny would discipline him. If his knife rusted because of the blood, Kenny would discipline him.
Levi, his heart clenching with guilt, just had to tell himself that it didn’t matter. Dead was dead.
He somehow rose to his feet again.
Silent, Kenny stuffed his gun back on his belt, and turned around. Levi followed.
Breathing in felt like fire. Breathing out worsened the stitch in his side. Moving one foot in front of another felt more like pushing boulders, and like a haze, this all hung around his mind. This pain was dreamy. A dream where his whole world meant staying on his feet—despite his hearing screeching in and out, despite his surroundings outside Kenny turning fuzzy at the edges—with Kenny in his sights. To march and march at Kenny’s back forever. The destination meant nothing, because Kenny knew where they were going. Because Kenny would never not be leading the way…
The dream abruptly ended when Kenny’s face suddenly appeared again, and he reared his leg back.
Levi hit the ground on his bad side. The pain was too loud to hear himself, but he thought he screamed. The white-hot shock of it was, for a second, his whole entire life.
He started getting a handle on his surroundings just in time to see the sole of Kenny’s boot when he kicked him in the side again.
“I’m gonna keep goin’ until you quit whining! Bitchin’ and moanin’ ain’t ever gonna help you, Levi!”
But he couldn’t help it.
The pain was too loud. Right now it blocked out everything. Kenny’s voice faded in and out as though through water.
Levi cried out wetly as he was kicked in the back, and involuntarily, he rolled onto his other side, facing Kenny. He curled up into the most protective position possible, with his arms shielding his head, still moaning. “Kenny! KENNY!—Fucking, stop! It hurts…”
When Kenny didn’t stop, didn’t even respond but to nail him in the shoulder, Levi knew he had no choice but to do what Kenny said. If Kenny said he had to do something, then Levi had to. Not even his human nature was immune to Kenny’s teaching.
Levi couldn’t tell when or where a hit was coming to promptly muffle himself—all he could feasibly do was shut up, or shut up and get up, and his legs felt like strings. The pain screamed through his mind.
Be strong…
Kenny kicked him a couple more times, but besides a grunt, Levi bit his tongue and tensed up every muscle in his body. That way didn’t feel so much like getting kicked with a hammer, which was really Kenny’s boot.
"Does it still hurt, kid?” Kenny didn’t even sound winded.
Levi swallowed thickly, panting. He tasted blood on his tongue and inhaled wetly. His nose was bleeding. But coughing counted as bitching and moaning, didn’t it? Stuttering or rasping. Weak. Whining or whimpering and especially crying, weak.
“No,” Levi said, voice firm.
The scrape of dirt could be heard as Kenny stepped back. Levi stared ahead at his tall black leather boots. Somehow, Kenny never scuffed them while he was beating the shit out of him.
Levi thought almost deliriously, that whenever he'd find himself in Kenny’s shoes, then he’d learn how to do that too. How could Kenny not only be so strong, but so… untouchable?
His boot charged again. Levi’s stomach. He tensed and squeezed his fists, but he was silent. It didn’t happen again.
“Good job,” Kenny said, like he expected that of Levi all along.
Good job? Levi squeezed his eyes shut. Good job good job good job good
“Yeah, you look like a beat dog, n’ I bet you feel like one, too, but whoever’s beating you won’t know that. No matter what… you still got some advantage.”
Kenny stepped forward. Levi braced himself for the moment he’s kicked in the face, but Kenny merely slid his boot forward, and lifted Levi’s chin up to look at him. From this angle, he looked miles above him.
“You understand why I’m finally teachin’ you this. That’s cuz it’s a hard-ass lesson. At least you succeeded in somethin’ today. You aren’t so scared since you made yourself quit that shit, huh. It’s called keepin’ yourself together. And you’re stronger for it. Don’t let anybody ever know your weaknesses, Levi. Do ya understand your teacher?”
“I understand,” Levi croaked.
Satisfied, Kenny let his chin drop. “Good, kid. Now you’re gettin’ the hang of this. Let’s get back.”
Levi blinked. He was still processing the way he’d been praised—so rare a thing with Kenny’s lessons.
The pain meant less when Levi both buried it somewhere so deep he couldn't feel it, and did well because of that. With the words still heating his face, he pushed himself to his feet, giving himself no time to register the way moving felt like blows of their own.
Yeah, it hurt, but that was the point, wasn’t it? He understood what Kenny was teaching him. When it came to his lessons, Kenny was never cruel for no reason.
This lesson hurt like hell, but Levi had overcome his very human nature because of it. An enemy could never fully take advantage of him, and Underground, an enemy could be found in anyone.
He was beginning to be strong.
Good, kid.
Tumblr media
It was a few weeks later when the worst thing that could’ve happened, happened.
Levi had been frustrated, to say the least, after another failure at Kenny’s test. He could never seem to overpower his enemies before Kenny’s gun rang off, ending the test. To be fair, Kenny put him up against enemies bigger, stronger, and faster than even Levi, but he didn’t even feel like he was improving. The most he’d gleaned from these fights were injuries.
He made his breathing short and tight and balanced his weight evenly on both his feet—he’d diagnosed himself with a bruised rib and something wrong with his ankle.
Levi always took care of his own injuries. The challenge right now was not seeming weak in front of Kenny.
But Kenny could tell, he felt. A cold sweat had broken out on the back of his neck from his constant stare as Levi went about taking account of what food they had stored.
The afternoon was no time to rest, and there was never a time to be useless.
Don’t be weak. Don’t, Levi repeated internally, especially as his midsection screamed when he crouched down, in search of something—a can of broth maybe. He had to eat enough to fuel his body.
At the table behind Levi was where Kenny sat, arms crossed with both his legs kicked up on the table. Levi didn’t understand why he was lingering, unless Kenny felt like taking a day off from killing Military Police.
All that sat on shelves and cupboards taller than Levi were cobwebs (if he had gone too long without cleaning them). Seeing how Kenny hardly ate here, Levi got to organize his way, which he was grateful for. He was grateful for any leniency Kenny showed him, but he tried not to be, and focused on his lessons. If Kenny wasn’t harsh, it would’ve been easier for Levi to be robbed, or murdered, or starve to death.
If only he could rise to the occasion and be strong. He didn’t know what that meant exactly, but he was sure he’d understand when he passed Kenny’s test.
A dented can of sardines.
Before he ate, Levi washed his hands in the basin of water that he had pumped this morning. It was disgusting, so he reminded himself to retrieve the cleanest water possible later, after Kenny was gone. Levi never felt like he could relax, but around Kenny, he especially felt the pressure to meet a certain standard.
Not that he particularly looked forward to Kenny leaving. It would hurt like hell to try and bathe and clean up around the place, but he was determined to. If there was nothing else he could help, he could help his hygiene, and the hygiene of his surroundings. He was scared of getting sick, like her, but other than that, the feeling was hard to describe. He would just… feel better.
Cleanliness didn’t matter to Kenny as far as anything other than appearances went, but living Underground didn’t mean he had to be dirty… like before. He wouldn’t be able to calm down and feel any ease until then.
He had his work cut out for him. Blood had scabbed on his throat, and pasted the collar of his shirt to his chest in an odd, itchy way. He felt bruises forming on his legs, his chest, but if he looked now, he knew they’d only hurt more. He’d want to rest. But this was not the time.
Don’t don’t don’t, he thought.
Levi sat down, straight-faced. He was almost tall enough now for his feet to touch the floor when he sat in this chair. There was more than one, but he preferred to sit in the same one every time, the one facing the door.
He peeled open the can and kept that expression even when the oily fish smell rose up. It was a disgusting stench that bore into his nostrils, but the way saliva pooled in his mouth at the idea of food, any food, felt otherwise. He was hungry, so he’d eat. He protected the can with his arm and stuffed his face with a fork. It felt and tasted like grey slimy mush on his tongue.
In his peripheral sat Kenny, whose expression was unreadable. Levi could speak whenever he wanted and not get reprimanded as long as it wasn’t a stupid question, so he asked, "When do I get to try again?”
Kenny grunted. “Who knows? You know what to expect when an enemy is face-to-face with ya Levi, but yer never gonna know who’s comin’ when unless you get good enough to predict it.”
It would be a mystery, then. He wasn’t good enough yet.
Levi swallowed the fish, and raised his head. It felt like he was being watched.
A brick shattered the window to his left, followed by shouts. Eyes wide, he instinctively ducked down and dropped to a crouch, gritting his teeth as his breath automatically started coming out in gasps. Something was wrong with his rib, for sure.
He dodged out of the way of a young man swinging a dagger, which made a whistling sound as it cut through the air, and juked around the side of the table so the man missed him and ran into the wooden kitchen counter instead. This, just as another man, a more gaunt one, hopped in through the jagged remains of the window.
Levi’s knife was outstretched as they circled each other briefly.
Of course, his teacher hadn’t moved. His arms were still crossed but his leg was now balanced on his knee, slouched with his hat pulled over his eyes, like he was pretending to be asleep. In the middle of all this shit.
The table almost went crashing down on Levi as it was heaved up in his direction. He slid out of the way just nearly, and used his size to his advantage to leap forward and slice the hell out of the gaunt attacker’s achilles heel, and then he plunged the blade into his stomach. The man howled and fell to his knees.
He nearly got out of the way of the other. He was snagged back by his shirt into the attacker’s arms. He tried wrenching around, but his chest injury made his movements stiff and too slight.
He was pushed down to the unforgiving floor. A boot stomped him on the chest, making Levi shout, now shaking all over from the pain. The world twisted and twirled. It looked like there were two of the men again.
And then he didn’t roll in time. He was wrenched up by his hair with cold steel on his throat when the grip went slack as quickly as it came. The thick choking smell of gunpowder clouded the air as Kenny ended the test.
Levi fell down on his side, totally limp, followed by something huge and heavy. The corpse of the man. His face had landed in Levi’s neck, and blood poured out of the gaping gunshot wound in that throat. He was still in his death throes, convulsing, sputtering and croaking.
He gasped, tears of exertion sticking on his lashes as he kicked, then kicked again to get the leverage enough to roll onto his stomach, freed. His whole chest felt like it was stapled together, his heartbeat like a drumline. With every thrum, the sides of his vision pounded.
He needed to get up. He tried to get up, but his hands and knees felt like twigs, burning and devoid. Physically unable, he dropped back down with a groan, but at least he wasn’t crying.
In the background, wood scraped the floor. Levi silently curled into a tighter ball and protected his head. Hot blood like a sheet had ran down his neck, staining his shirt, and—did his throat get cut? Unlike earlier, had he somehow fucked up that badly? All he could think about, if he was going to die, was how much his and Kenny’s efforts would have been for nothing if he bled out on this floor.
But Kenny wouldn’t let that happen in the first place, Levi believed that. They weren’t close, they weren’t even friends, but he could rely on Kenny. Even when Levi failed, Kenny wouldn’t abandon him…
Darkness ate Levi’s vision, and awareness floated away from him rapidly, like a cut balloon.
When he woke up, the pain had completely transformed. His skull pounded like too much cotton had been stuffed in his head, and every inhale felt like wire tightening, gripping his chest. Something must’ve been broken.
He felt used-up. But at least he was laying down.
Wait. He was laying on a mattress? He saw a faint glow behind his eyelids, which meant light. The amount of light meant it had to be a lantern.
For a moment, he kept still, listening for any sounds, any clues to what was happening and where he was. He heard some kind of button snapping shut. Something metal clattered.
Opening his eyes into slits, he spotted Kenny crouched and pulling cans of what appeared to be food out of a paper bag, scrutinizing them closely, and then letting some drop. Loudly. It seemed like Kenny had carried him to his room, and even mended his injuries. Under the old blanket he never slept with anymore, Levi was shirtless. Leaned up against the base of the lantern was some kind of small satchel.
Grunting softly, he forced his arms behind him to lift himself up, gritting his teeth against the pain, until he was sat up against the wall.
Kenny didn’t acknowledge him with his eyes. “You’re pretty damn useless, kid, you know that?”
Levi stared at his lap. Instead of answering a rhetorical question, he felt his side, sensing a tightness that hadn’t been there before. It was indeed bandaged. Even worse, at the foot of the bed his ankle was also wrapped, and propped up on a pillow. His cheeks glowed hot with embarrassment.
“Pitiful, too. But I ain’t gonna be the one to pity you. I jus’ wanna see what happens if you stay alive.”
“You didn’t have to do this… I wasn’t gonna die.” His voice grated from disuse, and he wondered how much time he’d wasted being asleep. He was even shaking, he was so humiliated. Kenny never bandaged him. Never so much as gave him the bandages.
Kenny paused. “I know. You’re not like your mother.”
Levi froze, but Kenny’s face gave nothing away. He looked as clean and put-together as always, just missing his hat and his coat. “This is a loan. Doin’ what I did just now was stupid of me for what I’m about to tell ya, but I’m tired of seein’ you fail.”
Levi grit his teeth and dropped his eyes again, silent.
“I get it now. You think cuz of all I’ve done, I’m gonna be there to save your scrawny ass no matter what. But guess what?—Look at me, Levi!”
When Kenny took his shoulder, he looked up, his face carefully neutral. He didn’t know what to think, except that this shame was so immense he wished Kenny had just left him there on the floor.
Kenny’s eyes were heavy and grave. “No one’s ever gonna look after you.” He huffed in amusement. “With that shitty look on yer face all the time, yer probably not gonna make any friends anyway, but even if you do, no one’s gonna keep you alive other than you.
"This world don’t give a shit if you live or die, and it especially don’t want ya. Livin’ or dyin’s a choice you’re gonna make on your own. D’you understand me?”
“…I understand,” Levi breathed, locking his throat. For some reason, he could never stamp down his emotions completely. He wanted to cry.
Kenny pushed him away. “Don’t gimme that look. You look the same way you did when we met. It’s pathetic.”
Feeling repulsed, Levi faced ahead, but he definitely still looked as tired as he felt.
“You’ve gotten too comfortable clingin’ to me. And ain’t no one clings to Kenny the Ripper but women" —he laughed— "so I’m leavin’ you for awhile. You’re no good to me weak. By then, you better be ready to try again.
“And the rules are gonna be a little different next time. Try not to die.”
Would the enemies be even stronger?—Would Kenny intervene to help instead of kill them at the end? Levi assumed both would be the case.
He wondered where Kenny was going, and for how long. But maybe it’d be safer for him to assume he didn’t plan on coming back anytime soon—that was his whole point.
"Got it,” Levi muttered.
Tumblr media
He wouldn’t see Kenny again for a whole month, but Levi trained every day like he was going to come back tomorrow. Nursing his own wounds was obnoxious, since they never seemed to heal fast enough. He constantly felt like an easy target whenever he left the hideout for supplies.
The front door being knocked open startled him from the kitchen table. He’d been a good hour into sharpening his knife back into a point when Kenny appeared, looking the same as ever.
Unsurprisingly, he gave no indication of when he’d test Levi next, and as he had learned, it could happen where he slept. He watched his back all the time, even through Kenny’s other lessons, but Levi made sure his performance didn’t suffer because of it.
Some weeks later. He was carrying a bag of food back from the nearby market when three people in plainclothes split off from a spot where they’d been smoking, and started towards him.
Levi didn’t know what Kenny was paying them to potentially forfeit their lives for Levi’s training, but he had learned that it was easier to think of them as obstacles instead. Levi didn’t take after killing like Kenny did, but Kenny had advised him not to be like him, anyway.
This time they were all men. One had a pistol that he aimed down at Levi off the bat, so he threw up the bag as a distraction, ran and leaped on the nearest one’s back as he shot frantically, so this man became like a human shield.
“Shit!”
Levi grunted as he was tossed about. The bullet had hit the human shield in the arm and shoulder, so he could only use one to try and shake Levi off.
Levi stabbed the man in the throat before this could happen and jumped back down, still on his feet.
The one with the gun was a blond man. He aimed like a blind man, making it easy for Levi to cut his hand, forcing the gun to drop, which Levi kicked away. Then he plunged his knife into the blond's thigh, who dropped to his knees moaning. But still alive.
This time he didn’t get it back. He elbowed the other coming up behind him in the gut, but this wasn’t enough to phase a grown man, and so Levi found himself being hefted up, his back pinned to the man’s chest. The blond rose on weary legs, now wielding a knife of his own, and bracing his bloody thigh with his other hand.
This was fucking humiliating.
“LET ME GO! Fucker, die!” Levi screamed. He kicked wildly, gave it more thought, and struck back at the knee of the enemy holding him. Then he kicked at his knife still lodged in the thigh of the blond, dislodging it so he flopped down like a fish on his side, wailing.
“Stop it… Stop it, gods,” the blond moaned.
Levi got away from the fatter man when he stumbled. Brute force worked in his favor this time, so he managed to kick and wiggle free.
He landed on his knees, rolled, snatched his knife back, and tore the blade across the blond’s throat.
Levi had no illusions that he was in good shape, even though it was one against one now. Hot blood kept trying to trickle into his vision, and his knee felt somehow twisted from where he had just landed.
But he had a chance.
The bigger man had eyes so dark they looked nearly black. He stood and widened his stance, silently goading him, Well? Fight me.
Levi threw his dagger, and it landed off its target, in the man’s shoulder. Apparently, he wasn’t too big that he couldn’t dodge.
He grunted, then surged forward like a steamroller.
There was no way Levi could fight him using brute force here. He was outmatched.
Once he was almost right on top of him, Levi ducked between his legs, hooked his elbows around his shins and shoved, but the man only stumbled. He didn’t fall down, and so he whirled around, shoving Levi down into the stone by his shoulders, face-first.
Levi grunted as one of his arms landed behind his back, held by such a hand that could’ve easily closed around both his arms instead of one.
One of Levi’s shoulders dug into the dirt, so that arm was pinned, too—underneath him. A hand closed on his throat.
No! Shit no no—
He didn’t want to hear another gunshot. He couldn’t fail again. He gagged and choked, and tried to thrash as he felt the pressure on his windpipe all the way up to his eyes. Black dots swam around his vision.
Another gunshot, he worried, but was Kenny even around this time?—Levi never got the feeling he was being watched.
Did Kenny tell the man to stop whenever Levi passed out?
As if to answer his question, the man growled, “I’m gonna fuckin’ kill you.”
Levi felt his neck bruising even as he choked him. Tears of exertion fell down his cheeks. And still no gunshots.
To get strong, he’d always thought that all he had to do was win.
“And the rules are gonna be a little different next time. Try not to die.”
Levi’s enemies weren’t just stronger. This was real.
“…No one’s gonna keep you alive other than you.”
“You’re no good to me weak.”
“When your guard’s down is the best chance anyone’s got of killin’ you.”
No matter how strong Levi became, he’d been weak this whole time because he put his trust in Kenny—not only to keep him alive, but not to kill him. It seemed so obvious now. Kenny was the type of person to do anything if it suited him, and Levi was no good to him weak.
So if he couldn’t win this, that was it, unless Levi wanted to survive. He was on his own.
A great revelation struck him on the edge of unconsciousness. It wasn’t a question if he could anymore. He wanted to… so he would. Nothing mattered more besides keeping this thing in his chest beating.
It’d been a long time since he thought about Momma. “She’s dead. End of story.” But he felt no more comfort in joining her. He would be strong, like him.
And suddenly, Levi knew what he had to do. It seemed so obvious and so within reach, this well of strength. All he had to do was let it flow into him.
He jerked his arm free where it was pinned, and grabbed the handle of the blade sticking out of his enemy’s shoulder. Gravity helped it jerk free, but then came the harder part.
It was still wildly easy. Levi jerked his upper body backwards, with the blade pointed at his enemy’s forehead.
He immediately felt the resistance of hard bone, but like a knife through butter, he just did it. It was almost laughable, how he’d failed all those times.
The hand on his throat loosened, gave way, but before the body could fall, he barrel-rolled out of the way, and immediately rose onto one knee, panting. After a quick look around, Levi crawled back to the body, and yanked his knife back.
Reflexively, he looked at the damage done to his bloody blade, and opened his hand. The wooden handle. Jerky cracks littered all up and down it. That had never happened before.
Blinking stupidly, Levi got up, and looked around. He was shaking like crazy, but not out of fear, or pain—It felt like he could take on every gang of enemies Kenny had sicced on him at once. He could smash a barrel with just his fists. It was just so… easy.
He felt like he was being watched, and looked instinctively where he felt it was coming from. That was what it was. Instinct.
Kenny strolled out from between two buildings, his hands deep in his coat pockets, looking almost sickeningly happy with him. Suddenly Levi’s knees felt weak again.
“That’s what I’ve been talkin’ about. Haha!—Idiots! You should see your fuckin’ face.”
Because he was smiling. It felt a little insane to smile after nearly dying, but he’d done it!—And he felt so powerful! After so much strife, he’d gotten Kenny’s praise. Even his approval.
“How’s it feel now that you’re not a useless rat anymore? Now you’re a powerful rat!”
Even though he had insulted him, Levi couldn’t stop smiling. He was good enough. Finally good enough. “Kenny…”
“Does it hurt? Well don’t have a shit over it, you’ll feel better in no time.”
Levi was so beside himself, Kenny managed to surprise him by picking him up and lifting him over his shoulder. For a split-second, he prepared for one final tussle, probably to see what he could still do after all that, but Kenny merely kept laughing crazily as he walked. He sounded fucking giddy, which was a laugh he had never heard out of Kenny. Behind his back, Levi saw the carnage he'd left behind, but this time he wouldn't let it dampen his exhilarated mood.
What did he think would happen after that?
For things to keep on the way they are, he would’ve answered back then, if someone asked. Now that he was good enough, and powerful, powerful beyond ways Levi had only imagined, then it probably wouldn’t have been asking a lot for Kenny to look at him less like a weakling, but still a student.
And that happened. For a while, things did keep on. Levi went on showing his strength, since that was the only thing that made Kenny happy with him, or at least satisfied. That was the thing they bonded over. His new talent for violence, and Kenny, was all Levi had.
But he again let his guard down, only not physically. That day hurt worse than any blow Kenny could’ve given him.
Kenny had been watching Levi fight as he usually did, and as always, Levi had had a grown man flat on his back. He beat on him loudly, yanking him up by his collar, yelling in his face since he’d felt disrespected and a crowd had formed, and they too had to know that despite his age and size (Kenny never quit pointing out how short he was), he was no one to fuck with.
And yet out of the corner of his eye, Levi’s gaze always kept flickering to Kenny’s for approval.
I’ve got the hang of this. I’m good enough, right?
One time, he looked up, only to then see Kenny’s retreating back, disappearing into the crowd.
After the scene was over, Levi wandered off to find him. He didn’t find him. He went back to the hideout. He waited, but he wasn’t naive. He assumed Kenny didn’t plan on coming back anytime soon.
And he never did.
Neither did Levi go looking. If Kenny didn't want to be found, it would've been impossible to go looking, and besides. Levi had already learned that begging not to be left alone did nothing. Begging did nothing. He was once again on his own.
Despite the day Levi had finally become strong, and the string of welcome victories after that, Kenny still had no use for him. What other reason could there possibly be, besides that he was still weak?
He was not strong enough. He was never strong enough for Kenny. Levi had the strength to keep himself alive, but not enough to earn Kenny’s companionship. He was a disgrace.
You will never be strong enough.
And he would never forget that. In fact, he would take each and every one of Kenny’s lessons along with him, for the rest of his life.

WE NEED AN ENTIRE STORY OF LEVI AS A BABY BOY DADDY! LIKE PLEASE ITS ACTUALLY TOO GOOD 🙏🙏🙏🙏😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😭😭😭😭😭😭
You all have inspired me to write a one-shot, so I'll post it soon. Thank you so much!
But since I'm on it, I think I'll give you a few headcanons.
In my idea, Levi didn't have many children, and while sometimes my scenarios may change depending on the situation, mostly Levi's boy would be an only child. This wasn't Levi's original idea, and I'll explain why.
Leaving aside whether in the canon period of time there are real contraceptives or not, I 100% believe Levi is a highly meticulous guy. If he needs to pull out and count days in the old-fashioned way, he will. If he has to wear condoms every single time, he will. I believe Levi would try to make sure that if he ever has a child, it would be planned, as far as is humanly possible, of course. Sometimes contraceptives fail, etc.
In my mind, I believe Levi and Y/N decided or happened to have a kid around the time before the expedition to Wall Maria. There was about half a year when the scouts waited for the correct time to do the expedition to Wall Maria. Well, I believe she probably got pregnant around that time. I believe it was a mix between Levi transitioning a lot of emotions after Kenny's death, etc., and having more free time on his hands since they weren't doing expeditions while preparing for the mission… and well… let's say they decided to go handy, haha.
With that said… I think Levi would hardly admit it out loud, but he's one of those guys who always wanted to be parents, so they kinda said, "You know what? Fuck it, if it happens, it happens," and well, it happened almost immediately. Levi hears the news around two months later, and let me tell you, this man is all over the moon. He wants to be part of EVERYTHING. For me, Levi wants to prove that he is better than the men who failed his mother and also failed him. Levi wants to prove he can be a present father.
She goes to the doctor for just a check, he wants to be there. Better keep his man informed because he would ask a million questions. He's a first-time father, and she may sneeze, and he's all worried. Levi saw too many women die in childbirth or from difficult pregnancies in the underground. He's blessed with the chance of being a father, but also terrified. Levi feels that if he loses his love just because he "grew selfish" and asked for more (aka asked for a kid), he would feel horrible.
Anyways, back in the day, men waited outside during birth, and I believe they would try to kick Levi out of the room, and he would be like, "and who is going to stop me?" He wants to be there.
Now is when his baby boy comes into the picture. I believe, and God bless the mother, he was such a healthy CHUNKY boy. He was BIG. Those kinds of kids that look so healthy but at the same time, it's like "he literally sucked her dry, that baby took anything the mother has to offer."
Like, she's too tired after childbirth, and the nurses offer Levi feeding bottles with milk to keep the baby eating while the mother rests… and the baby is EATING to the point a doctor comes, pats Levi's arm playfully, and says, "Hope you've a good salary, Captain, because that kid is going to eat like a horse."
Perhaps these are the only few times that Levi is the most excited out of the two, she's tired from all the work, and Levi is over the moon. Ah, but don't you dare to touch his baby without washing your hands. If Levi could force you to take a bath in chlorine before even getting close to his baby, he would.
Aside from that, I think Levi's baby boy that I've named in my mind "Adrien" because Y/N thinks that naming her kids with A's to match the last name, especially since Ackerman's are finally able to not be in hiding.
In my mind, Adrien inherits Kenny's height. Yes, as you heard, KENNY'S HEIGHT. 190cm (6'3"). He's a big boy. I think it's funny that all the doctors check the baby and say, "haha, he's going to be tall!" and Levi is there looking at her like "… I don't like to admit I'm short as fuck, but if the kid isn't mine you can tell me," joking obviously, lmao.
"Levi, the kid is a photocopy of you."
Adrien is an extremely playful, happy, and hyperactive kid. He's so cheerful, and it makes Levi wish his mother was around so he could ask if he was such a cheerful kid too.
Chunky fat legs running down the halls as he doesn't even speak properly, but he already knows which office is daddy's office. He loves horses, he loves playing soldier, he loves being a daddy's boy.
This is when I mention that I believe Levi having a single child wasn't his original plan. I think he wished to give Adrien a sibling to make sure he won't be alone in life if anything ever happens to him as he was. But the whole rumbling happened, and after that, Levi was too busy trying to move him and his family outside of Paradise and after that settling down, taking care of Gabi and Falcon, that well time flew, and when everything was back to calmness, haha, well let's say that Levi had to admit that the train had left the station, and his energy to go back to change diapers had kinda withdrawn, lmao.
Finally, I think Adrien was a very hyperactive kid mainly because of the Ackerman genes. He has energy, he has strength, he has the abilities. He just has too much bottled up and doesn't know how to get tired. Levi is basically running around making sure the kid isn't jumping from the roof or climbing the kitchen cupboards. He probably ends up signing him up for a bunch of activities: baseball, self-defense classes, football, triathlon.
I have a bunch of other headcanons, so let me know if you want more!"

bodyguard au snippet
i had posted part of this scene before but i changed some of it lol and here’s just an extended part overall!!! honestly i really just love mikasa in this au so much like she’s just so funny lmao
“I think we have some things we need to talk about,” a voice that would be sweet if it wasn’t so clearly filled with anger calls out, sending a slew of chills down Eren’s spine. He turns towards the kitchen where her voice came from, the image of her smaller frame greeting him, discontent apparent on her face.
“Umm… Sure… What did you want to talk about?” He hates how there’s so much uncertainty in his voice, but he doesn’t know how to act around her. Is he supposed to feel guilty? Is he supposed to be stern? Is he supposed to try and be her friend?
If she wants to come off intimidating, she’s doing a good job, making no effort to give off friendly smiles or warm, compassionate glimpses—her stare is icy and steely, and she leaves no room for small talk, immediately jumping into the matter. “Let’s not play stupid here—I’m gonna assume you’ve put two and two together and realized I’m pissed off at my parents. But more importantly, you want this job for whatever reason, and I want you gone,” she says candidly. “It seems there’s a very simple solution to both of our issues here—whatever my parents are paying you, I’ll double it. And you can go back to that sad little Garden State of yours, and we’ll both be happy.”
The limits of an Ackerman truly know no bounds, just as Kenny had said, proven by Mikasa merely a few hours after their initial meeting. Eren sits bewildered, unsure of how to handle her proposition, knowing he obviously can’t accept her offer, but inciting more rage into her would only make matters worse.
“I was told by Levi and Kenny that you might try and bribe me…” His voice trails off, watching as Mikasa eyes him intently, waiting for him to finish the remainder of his sentence. “And they also told me to be sure and ignore you.”
The grey of her eye is covered by the way it physically twitches at his words. If Eren’s striving to neutralize the situation, he’s failing horribly. He doesn’t know how he’s supposed to win in this scenario.
“Of course they would fucking tell you that,” she says, rolling her eyes. Mikasa lets out a sigh, drumming her freshly manicured fingers against the granite, her mind turning—Eren clearly derailing her plans. After a few beats, she clasps her hands together before leaning forward onto the island. “Fine. If you’re here to stay, then let’s get a few things straight, Eren,” the emphasis on his name apparent, plush lips omitting the “N” at the end—something that might’ve been endearing if she didn’t sound so indignant. “We’re not going to be friends—let’s get that clear.”
With Mikasa, it’s clear Eren needs to stand his ground; he can’t falter under unrelenting stares and callous words. So he chooses not to waver, forcing himself to pocket whatever remnants of hesitation or nervous energy that linger. “I expected as much. And you don’t seem like the… friendly type, anyways,” he shrugs, attempting to maintain his usual apathetic demeanor, which for reasons he can’t explain, seems to feel like a foreign concept ever since he’s arrived in New York. “I’m only here to do my job, after all, aren’t I?”
“I’m actually very friendly, just don’t expect me to be friendly to you.” He finds humor in how her voice sounds the exact opposite of the words she speaks. “But anyways, if you’re going to be living in my house, we need to get some things straight here.”
“Shouldn’t I be the one setting rules for you?”
“What rules do I need to follow? You follow me around all day whenever I decide to leave the house, I guess I try not to get into trouble for the sake of my parents , and you lock yourself in the guest room every other hour of the day. Simple as that,” Mikasa says matter-of-factly.
A silence settles over the two of them—on Eren’s end, it’s due to her sheer audacity, mostly because he’s not sure if she’s actually being serious, and on Mikasa’s end, because she expects him to actually agree, awaiting his nod of approval.
Realizing she’s awaiting an approval she won’t get, Mikasa relents. “Fine. You don’t have to lock yourself in the room all day—do as you wish I guess,” she says, releasing a huff. “But this brings me back to things we need to discuss.”

crack theory or fic ideaq! jean is kenny's bastard child that never awaken his ackerman ability until RTS when reiner almost kills him. assuming eren host theory is true, mikasa obsessed eren, levi obsessed with erwin, jean became obsessed with reiner hence explaining his drive to save reiner on the rumbling.
I love this idea so much, especially given how similar Jean is to Mikasa's dad at the beginning, and how eerily similar to Kenny he becomes as he grows up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(When I was watching AOT for the first time, I was terrified that the story was going to repeat itself, and that Jean and Mikasa would get murdered in a similar fashion, only for their child to be saved by a reborn Eren.)
But yeah, I have a feeling Jean looked at Kenny, thought to himself "cool style" and decided to adopt it (but make it more classy). AND NOW, going back to your brilliant idea:
The very thought of Jean getting a sudden power-up has me in stitches. Imagine him taking all those Titans out the way Levi does it (I did power him up in the AOT2 game, and it's honestly awesome). But that "Ackerbond" gives us an opportunity to look into a concept we haven't considered before – Jean the traitor. Because given the circumstances, Jean might be tempted to cross the line Mikasa never crossed. If his ability awakens during the Battle of Shiganshina, the next time he meets Reiner is in Liberio. Just like Mikasa comes to Eren’s rescue, Jean might come to Braun’s.
He probably wouldn’t be blinded enough to try to kill any of his friends, but the idea of him fighting with Eren and Mikasa is so, so cool. He would probably stay in Liberio after the Raid – he would have to. The Scouts would want answers, but they wouldn’t let him go back with them. He chose Reiner over them two times already. (Can someone explain how I am turning a potential crack!scenario into something so dark?)
Alternatively, Jean might interrupt Eren and Reiner’s fight on Paradis. Reiner would probably be very confused seeing Jean go berserk in an attempt to protect him. And even with his mind and judgment clouded, Jean would drag Reiner off the street, take him somewhere safe and yell at him as usual. The Ackerbond or not, certain things never change. But… would Reiner appreciate him or would he want to use him?
When it comes to the Rumbling itself, not much would change. Jean would kill more Titans of course, but his devotion to Reiner? He’s really got it covered in the original scenario. Maybe the others would be just less surprised by the strength of their bond, hehe.
That one quote about dogs staying loyal to you and loving you no matter how much you hurt them really applies here...

The Ackermans are dysfunctional but there’s love there!
In another “first meeting” scenario Kenny’s already home from his work trip that got cut short when Mikasa rolls in with Eren and oh is he going to wring Eren out 😭 insists that Eren stays for dinner and asks all sorts of invasive instigatory questions 💀
HA! so remember that levi remembers everything so he’s glaring into eren’s soul while kenny is asking the most out there questions and eren just takes it. it’s hilarious.

Hi Eliza! I love your content! I've been daydreaming about post war Levi meeting a girl while on the park bench. She has an orphan nephew who she is responsible for, and maybe they bond real quick because the little boy is really curious about Levi. She's a sweetheart to his nephew and Levi admires her raising skills and overall affection, sort of contrasting to his own upbringing with Kenny. What do you think? I love Levi × fem-with-children-of-her-own fluff.
Fairly new to tumblr, hope I haven't messed up! Have a wonderful year! ❣️
Hello! Welcome to tumblr! I hope you're enjoying yourself so far! You're doing just fine!
And thank you so much for the kind words!! Don't mind me though, cause I've been known to let things simmer in my inbox for.. months! Oops. It's generally because either I'm working on how to answer, or I'm very distracted, and I won't do tumblr things when I get like that, because I want to take the time out to properly devote to these lovely asks people send.
And as I wrote the above paragraph YESTERDAY, I got a call, got sidetracked, and couldn't get back to this until now LOL. Sorry! I don't do it on purpose!
Anyway, I'm going to keep your scenario and add it to my WIP list for future use, if that's okay! It's really sweet and I want to do something special with it, I'm just not quite ready yet. But I didn't want to let this sit in my inbox and have you think I'm ignoring you.
I do love Levi as step dad material! He'd try so hard because he adores reader, AND her child. For Fathers Day last year I wrote a weeks worth of stories including step dad Levi. And I have another idea I have titled 'Old Man Ackerman' about Levi being seen as the grumpy old neighbor but then teaming up with a boy to help catch his dog who is running loose, and then the boy introduces Levi to his mother :) @nube55 I believe you mentioned that one, that's the plot summary!
Perhaps I'm getting off topic, but basically yes I love the idea of Levi / postwar Levi meeting someone who has a child in their life, and becoming a family with them! He just completes the whole picture and it is wonderful!!

You were a lost soul in the underground, fighting everyday for your life
Let's just say, you did your fair share of fighting
Sorry YN but no real room to be soft when you live in the underground
You meet Kenny randomly one day when you had been walking home
Some gross dude coped a feel of your bottom 👀
Ope 😶 bad idea my dude
Kenny had watched the whole thing, in fact he was on his way to backhand the bastard
No need Kenny 🤚🏻
Yn's got this
Without a word, you kick the man below the belt and then slug him straight in the face
Ok YN we see you 👁
We don't tolerate that behavior 💅
Men are trash and we know it
"Let that teach to never EVER grope a women without her permission again!"
Walks away 🚶‍♀️
Pretty sure Kenny has never seen anything more attractive
Let's be honest here, Kenny is a hard man and kind of an ass
But he can appreciate when a woman can stand up for herself ☺
Mans will follow you from a ✨safe distance✨
You already clocked him when you punched the pervert
"You know if you are going to follow me you could at least have the decency to make it subtle"
Kenny is convinced you have eyes in the back of your head 👀
You turn, giving him a sweet smile
Like you are tough as nails but that smile babe 😌
Consider Kenny done for
Mans instantly fell in love
He's not the kind of guy to "date" but he definitely wants to get to know you
He takes you to bars and drinks with you
Thats your date 🤚🏻
Don't expect flowers or too much romance YN
Sorry but Kenny is not that guy
He wants a girls who can handle herself
You fit that bill
After a few dates, there becomes this unspoken rule that you are together
Kenny doesn't like labels fight me
But he's possessive as HELL
Legit mans doesn't even so much like a man looking in your direction
"Were you looking at my girl??" 😠
No sir I was reading the menu on the wall chill tf OUT 😳
When the APCS comes up, Kenny wants you to join with him
He's running the show so he picks his team
You are obviously first pick
First off, you can handle yourself
Second off, you are his girlfriend
You really think he's gonna leave you in the underground YN 🙄
When training starts, he sees how perfectly capable you are
Like ok using ODM gear and shooting a gun at the same time?
What kind of fuckery is that!
Like you are hella talented YN 😲
Plus you look good doing it 😏
Kenny likes how capable you are but that doesn't mean he mind showing off
He's the captain, it's like a rule or something
So when Levi and the gang pull into the city, Kenny sees the perfect opportunity to showcase his skills
Legit Levi might be humanities strongest but like it's in the Ackerman blood
Kenny is so eloquent on this ODM gear
Like a freaking artist 🎨
And for the limited direction the guns offer, he's an amazing shot
He pulls up on Levi slowly 🐌
Legit mans is so quiet ok nobody knew
You stare in wonder
Levi has like no clue
That is until Kenny takes his shot
Levi 👉🏻😶👀
You 👉🏻 😳😲
Kenny 👉🏻🤠😏
Oh its on now
Kenny and Levi have their little fly fest
You try to keep up 🤚🏻
It's not happening YN
You might be strong but cardio is not your thing
And like, who can even keep up with Kenny and/or Levi?
Nobody Mikasa
You are legit impressed as all hell
Those two are freaking spider monkeys
You lost them like 12 times
Kenny and you manage to escape 🕺
You are seriously beyond impressed by your mans
But he's a smug asshole so he of course already knows this
"That was incredible Kenny" 🤩
"Tell me something I don't already know babe"
🙄🙄🙄🙄
Kiss the man YN
Please shut him up
Them challenge him to an ODM race 🏁
He let's you win
Or so he says 😌
You won YN, not only the race but also the heart of Kenny Ackerman 🥰

Hello! I hope it's okay to send another request, I always feels insecure about sending too much 😭 Anyway this is kinda weird so feel free to change anything that you don't like!
So, you know that the ackermans have that special person that they form a bond and always follows and protects them, right?
So what if Levi discovers that before the reader join the corps she used to live with Kenny (not romantically) and she's his host until for some reason they had to split up?
Thank you!
ofc! i hope you like it! <3 sorry for all the waiting hun! i hope i didn’t mess up your idea :’)

“Stronger!” Levi commands you. You hit the practice mannequin harder, your knee finding its abdomen. Levi looks closely. He knows that way of fighting. He knows it too well. Analyzing every movement you do, every punch and every kick.
“Where are you from?” he asks. You stop hitting the mannequin to look at your captain. Sweat pearls run down your neck and your chest raises up and down fast. He handles you a bottle with water. You drink.
“From the Underground, sir. Mitras’ Underground.” Levi nods. He supposed that. As well as he supposed who taught you to fight.
“You learned there?” He asks. You nod, drinking a little bit more. He looks how your lips part from the bottle. "Who taught you?"
"Kenny the Ripper." you say. That's how he was known on the Underground. Levi nods.
“Do you mind if we drink a cup of tea while you explain me how did you met Kenny?”
After you took a shower and reunited with Levi near his dorm, he invited you to enter to the living room, where two cups were waiting to be filled with hot tea. You whispered “thanks” when Levi served you.
“Why do you know Kenny?” he asks. You take a sip of the tea before answering.
“He found me on a street, about to die of hunger.”
Someone steps on the piece of bread you were about to eat, leaving it smashed and full of dirt. You’re only six years, and you have been living like this all your life. Trying to get some bread from yesterday, some burnt pieces of meat people doesn’t want to eat. A tall and slim man stands in front of you. His hands give you a little bun. You look up at him: he’s wearing a hat and has two guns on each side of the hips. He gets on his knees.
“Are you okay? Where’s your mom?” he asks. You take a bite of the bun, so warm and soft.
“Mom died.”
Levi nods while he plays with the cup, his index touching the handle. Levi’s brows get frowned. Why the hell would Kenny Ackerman help a child?
“Continue, please.”
“He gave me something to eat and then let me sleep on his house.”
The tall man walked in front of you. Even when he looks kinda old, he kept walking fast, your tiny little legs couldn’t follow his rhythm. He looked back and found you bitting the bun.
“Come on, buddy.” he said, rushing you. You followed him as fast as you could, avoiding crashing with the people. He opened a door and let you inside. “This is your new room. It was my nephew’s...” You crawled into the bed, the softest thing you’ve ever touched. With the bun in your mouth, you tried to put your head on the pillow. “Uh- you’re going to choke! Put your head up while you eat, you little one!”
“I slept on his nephew’s room all the years I lived there, but never met him.” you say. Levi sighs before drinking a little. “He taught me how to fight, since a lot of guys wanted to get my food.”
The first day you went out to the market alone, you came back without food and without money. You were ten and some older guys kicked you and took all your things. Kenny asked why you were crying.
“Tha-that guys stole my things. The purse mommy gave me .” Kenny took a tissue and helped you to get rid of tears. He went out and came back later, when you where more calm, lying on the bed. He gave you your purse, empty but safe. “You found the bad guys?” Kenny nodded and sighed, taking his hat out. “You’re like a hero! You know how to fight?” Kenny looked at you and smiled a bit, before getting closer and make your hair a mess. “I know, buddy. And I’m going to teach you.”
Levi takes another sip, remaining silent. Kenny wasn’t a fan of children. He took care of Levi because he was his nephew, but you were just a random kid on his way. Why would he help you. Maybe he missed Levi and needed another child to take care of?
“So, you learned from him.” you nod. “How many years you lived there?”
“Since six to sixteen.” you answer. “Ten years in total.”
You entered home. You heard about the Scouts Captain, the one that is humanity’s stronger soldier. You didn’t know how amazing he was until you saw him. You went to Mitras to have a couple pieces of fruit, and an attack suddenly exploded in the center of the city. A black-haired man appeared, swinging from one building to another. That was the moment you decided to join the corps.
“Kenny!” you found him eating on the kitchen, his hat in the chair next to him.
“What’s up, bud?” he asks.
“Today I saw the strongest soldier! I want to be like him! I’m going to join the Survey Corps!”
Kenny’s gaze got lower. His nephew is considered humanity’s stronger soldier alive. He’s now your example to follow?
“Good decision, buddy. Go there and kick that old man in the ass.”
“Why did you join the Survey Corps?” he asks. You look to the ceiling, You didn’t want to tell Levi that you joined because of him. But, after all, it’s the truth.
“I saw you. On Mitras. I was amazed by you, I wanted to be like you. That’s why I joined.”
He looks surprised, but he clears his throat and moves to another thing.
“When you entered the military, you weren’t prepared.”
“That’s because Kenny always protected me like a father.”
Kenny kneeled in front of you, cleaning your wound with water. You frote your eyes with your hands, taking the tears away.
“You should kick them back.” He said. He clicked his tongue and kept healing you.
“But you were there to help me.”
“I know, buddy. But, someday, I won’t be here. I won’t last forever, you know? And I’m not that young...”
“B-but, Kenny, if you leave, who is going to protect me?” you asked, feeling how tears came back to your eyes.
“You’ll have to protect yourself, y/n”
“Like a father, huh?” Levi says for himself. He takes what’s left on the cup and stands up. “Okay, thanks. I think that’s all I wanted to know.”
“Thanks to you, Captain Levi.”
Levi looks at you. He asks.
“Do you know Kenny’s surname?” He asks.
“I’m Kenny Ackerman. And you?”
“I’m y/n” you said in quiet voice. He looked at you.
“What about your surname?” he asks. You raise your shoulders. You don’t know.
“Oh, shit. Should you use Ackerman as well?” he thought in high voice. You stayed there, looking at him, interested.
“Ackerman. It was also his nephew surname.” Levi smiles a bit and looks at you. His grey eyes seem hurt, but he’s smiling after all. “I always wondered if his nephew was as good as he was to me”
“I don’t know. Judge me by yourself” Levi smiled and left you there, thinking about his answer.
Was Levi, the strongest soldier, Kenny’s nephew. Was Levi’s bed the one you used all the nights? Was Levi the boy you always wanted to know more about?
You wanted to ask him, but the Captain left with his cup, proceeding to fill it again.
You’ve been always so close to his nephew.
Did Kenny know it when you told him you wanted to join?
Is Kenny proud of him?
Did Kenny give the same attention to him that to you?
You have a lot of questions on your head and, luckily, the Captain is talkative today.

I just had a great idea and I don’t want it to sit and rot away while it’s still fresh in my mind.
You know that scene where Annie was following Kenny only to get caught by him?
Tumblr media
Imagine y/n (you) in that scenario except you are just going out for a nightly walk or you are a runaway wandering around the streets like it’s no one’s business. He catches you but instead of escaping into the sewers, he either catches your attack before you can strike him or he catches you after you try to run away from him.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
It turns into a brawl until you consent him to take you right there.
Somebody please write this and then post it on Archive of our Own!

Since Kenny is coming this Sunday, I’d like to request Kenny’s reaction to someone flirting with his s/o because they don’t think Kenny is his s/o; but he is 😆
We be able to watch Kenny this Sunday *proceeds to faint*. This was going to be short, but you know that with Kenny I get excited. I hope you like it, enjoy! 💕
KENNY ACKERMAN
Tumblr media
Well, Kenny raises an eyebrow but he doesn’t say anything when that fool starts to flirt with you, he just wants to see what will happen when you tell him that you’re his girlfriend. You’re pretty uncomfortable, that guy is annoying and later of say him that you aren’t interested in him, you finally say: “Leave alone, I don't like you and I’ve boyfriend.”
That stupid guy laughs and before he says “He won’t know about us”, you replicate: “I’m dating with Kenny the fucking Ripper Ackerman”. The idiot laughs and you looks at Kenny far away, asking him for help; but Kenny smiles you and rise his glass of whisky. You stick out your tongue, Kenny is enjoying with this, you know that he’s planning something; Kenny is a man with a huge ego, and an idiot will not make him angry.
So, you start to explain the stupid man again that he’s idiot and you aren’t interesting in him. Later a few minutes of exasperation, you listen some steps towards you, and later feel a big hand in your waist.
“Are you enjoying the night, doll?”
Kenny rests in you, he not even looks at the guy that has been trying with you. You sigh and rest your head in his chest.
“Could be better”.
The idiot starts to stutter and looks at you and later Kenny, he start to pale.
“I’m sorry”.
“She’s hot, right?” Kenny says.
“Kenny!” you protest, and when you want to see the guy, he has disappeared, you feel the laugh of Kenny in your own body and glares him. “You’re mean”.
“I just was greeting you” he says while he shrugs, seems innocent.
You shake your head. Well, at least you got rid of the idiot dude.

Kenny comforting s/o with a headache?
Tumblr media
💙💙💙
-“I have a head ache Kenny.”
-“Again? damn headaches messing with my damn (Name)-“
-Kenny doesn’t stop talking as he puts his coat and hat on and leaves to get his s/o some medicine to take care of the headache.
-Even when he returns he won’t stop grumbling but he gives his s/o the medicine while making sure they take it safely. (Worry wart)
-“There you go, doll. Fuck that headache.”
-bless.
-Kenny will pat his s/o head a few times, but that’s as comforting as Kenny gets.
-Now if his s/o is a cuddly person he will cuddle up with his s/o but he falls asleep in no time.💙

Y / N: *waking up from a nap while sunbathing on her belly* shit! I am going to get sun burn.
Y / N: * murmuring for Levi only while trying to clip her bikini's bra back on* Levi, can you put cream in my ass while I try to tide this back? I don't want to get sunburn.
Levi: what kind of cream do you want me to put *smirking*
Y / N: Levi! For goodness sake, your family is with us!
Kenny: *chuckling* let me know if the brat doesn't do it, I will gladly put cream on your ass.
Kuchel: 🤭🤭 oh my, my daughter in law is such a lucky girl.
Y / N: *covering her face* is it too late to give the ring back?
Levi: *putting suncream in his hand* yeah, too late brat.
--
I know most of you are during winter right now but it's summer in my country and suncream is always a a material for jokes. It never gets old 😂 Sorry that I haven't post any of all the things I had in mind, my computer got broken and I can only write little things in my phone.
If any of you are wondering why is levi going to the beach, his mother insisted and he is such a mommy boy that if Kuchel says beach, it's a beach day. No questions asked.

Lessons // Levi x Reader
Tumblr media
Warning! :
This may include rape, if you are uncomfortable to read do not go further.
This also includes a few spoilers for those who hasn't seen season 3.
Tumblr media
Squad Levi had only one goal— retrieve Eren and Historia back from the military police, held by the infamous, Kenny Ackerman. A blood related family of Levi. However, it wasn't just the two people that were captured. No one was aware that you as well have been abducted by one of Kenny's scouts. Except Levi. Who was furious when he saw no sign of you anywhere once his squad had been regrouped.
Fortunately Sasha was able to track down your scent from an abandoned cabin in the woods where they were previously camping. Like a former scout, Mike Zacharias, she was handy in situations like this.
"She's in there." Sasha sniffed, head peaking slightly from the bush she and the others were hiding. "Do you think Eren and Historia are there as well?" Mikasa whispered, keeping an eye on the amount of scouts that were guarding the cabin.
"No." Armin answered with his shoulders tensed up. Jean looked at him slightly confused of his reply. "Ha? How can you say?"
"Eren and Historia are more than just important people to this. Eren possesses a Titan ability, as Historia knows the truth behind these walls. A place as small as this would be easy to get suspicious from and to get them back." Armin explains to the whole group that were hiding beneath the bushes.
"So what you're saying is. Eren and Historia aren't there and only (Y/n) is?" Connie said, in need of clarification.
"Yes." a monotone voiced answers. "These kidnappers are amateurs. Just as he would use them." he added. "If you'd analyze the situation, brat. Eren and Historia are people everyone in their rightful mind would kill just to obtain. Clearly they wouldn't settle for less than a filthy place like that."
"So why would they hide (Y/n) here, Captain?" Jean asks the raven haired man. "They're trying to lure me." Levi gritted his teeth. "Because they know she's important to me." So Kenny knew.
"MMMHHPP!!—"
"O-oi Sasha! Not so loud. " Connie snarled at the girl as her screams were muffled in his hand covering her mouth.
"Springer, let go of her." Levi commanded. "S-sorry."Connie releases Sasha, making her fall to the ground with eyes widened, as if something terrifying was happening.
"What's happening?" Mikasa asked, calm voice turning into a worried one. Seeing the woman shake, Levi clicked his tongue. "Braus I demand immediate answer—"
"ouse..."
Everyone's attention was no one Sasha when she said something uncomprehending. "Speak up dammit! What's happening to (Y/n)?!" Jean hissed.
"Arouse....I—I smell...coming from her...scent...strong." Sasha shook widely. The whole squads eyes widened.
"T-they're.."
"You all take down these scums guarding the cabin, Ackerman, Arlert. You come with me." Levi gave his orders, feeling his pound in his chest and anger was seething within him.
Almost immediately everyone nodded, preparing themselves for the blood bath they're about to receive.
"S-stop it!"
"Heh, look at her." says one of the scouts that has held you captive.
"She's all wet. Why don't you try and touch her." He smirked at his companion who was also enjoying the disgusting torture they were doing to you.
"P-please...stop..." You begged, panting and sweating from the torment the man had done to you awhile ago. You were chained up against the pole, legs spread in all its glory and naked. These men were disgusting. But not as disgusting as the man that had ordered them to do so. Kenny.
Never have you ever felt so ashamed. These men were playing with you yet your body finds this pleasurable? You were disappointed. "That little runt should be here at any moment." Ah there he was. Kenny. "How are you sure he'd come here, sir?" The blonde ponytailed woman asked.
"heh... Your body says otherwise little girl." The second male slurred as you felt his fingers touch your sensitive core before inserting his index.
You felt a shiver to your spine when Kenny's eyes had landed into your flustered self. He grinned, "What kind of man wouldn't come for his girl, aye?" saying as his shoes tapped the wooden floor walking towards you and your tormentors. "Besides, he's got himself pretty damn lucky to a laddie like yourself." he licked his lips at the sight of you being fingered.
"Can't we keep her, captain?" Your tormentor asked. You squeaked when he rolled your nipple between his fingers. "She's all yours you honey bastards." Kenny laughed at the two grinning shit heads and began to play harder with your body.
Everything went into a full stop when the door slammed open, "Captain, he's here." One of his scouts announced. Kenny grinned, looking back at you, "Daddy's comin darlin, you ready to see the little runt?" He said before pulling the two men that were playing with you away. "You two had your fun, now go get me that bastard." He growled before kicking them out. Leaving you with just him and Blondie.
"Captain, there's too many of them!" Armin yelped as he was tackled down by a scout. "Armin!" Mikasa yelled, raising her her blade before stabbing the enemy that almost killed Armin.
"Tch. Shit." Levi cursed, scanning his surroundings. He knew Kenny was low, but this much guards just for him? What do they want with him. Levi growled, instantly killing two people in one go with the help of his maneuver gear. If they keep this up longer, who knows what could they be doing to you?
"Yo, levi." Whipping his blade up, Kenny had surprised an attack on Levi from above. "Still spunky as ever, aye?" He laughed before swinging away from Levi. "KENNY!" Levi yelled and was about to go after him. "You forgot something I taught you, you little runt!" Kenny yelled back. Levi's eyes widened. "Ya shouldn't get your head a mind full of distractions!"
He was surrounded. "Drop yer weapons." Kenny snarled, swinging over to Levi and landing ingrown of him. "And you'll see your baby girl." He taunted. Levi clicked his tongue and obligated. "Obedient as ever." Kenny muttered before stepping back. Levi scanned the numbers of the scouts. Mikasa and the others were far away to notice, the pitch black sky wasn't helping along as well.
"Where is she?" He spoke, glaring murderously at Kenny. "You'll see her. Cuff him." it all happened so fast. Next thing you know levi had his head on the ground with several scouts holding him down and cuffing him. Leading him in the cabin.
"Tch you're really pathetic." Another kick on your face. "I wonder what the Captains brat saw in you." The blonde spat at your coughing, naked form. Right after Kenny had left with the two men, this woman had taken over and decided to tour the you with pain. Well, it was better than being touched inappropriately. The door was kicked opened, startling the blonde. "Lookie who's here." Kenny cooed, pushing Levi on his knees before you.
"C-captain..."
"(Y-y/n)?" He silently gasped when you raised your head at him. Eyes strained from the cries earlier, cheeks bruised from the kicking with a bleeding nose and busted lip. Levi felt his heart break into a thousand pieces. They broke you.
"D'awww ain't that disgustingly cute." Kenny teases, leaning against the wall. "You bastard.." Levi muttered underneath his breath. Kenny grunted in response before eyeing the two men that had tormented you before, silently ordering them what to do.
Seeing them grin, your face paled as they walked forward to you.
Not infront of Levi.
"Ready for round two baby girl?"
"Make sure you scream good. Ya daddy's here to see the whore you are."
They laughed at the insults thrown at you before kneeling in front of you. Blowing on your core, you quivered. "S-stop!" You began as their hands roamed and played your body once more.
"PLEASE STOP!" You cried, face going red as tears drip from the corner of your eyes.
"Kenny! Let her go." Levi yelled, his face contorting into a distress one rather than his usual stoic one. He didn't want to watch what was happening. Yet his rage was flowing into his veins, ready to murder everyone, especially those two scum bags.
"What? Ever seen an erotic sight before?" Kenny watched with a grin. "I'd be jealous seeing these scums have their fun yet I'm here taunting you." He laughed. Levi never felt so defeated, but for you. Anything for you, he just wants you to get the hell out of this. "Let her go...whatever the fuck you want is with me do so, just let her go!" Levi said, almost sounding like he was begging. Begging for them to stop torturing his lover.
"Watch and learn you little runt. You aren't getting the point of this" He snarled before kicking him in the face, followed by a kick in the gut. What the fuck was the lesson in all this? Why would he waste all these scouts, the effort in kidnapping you just for a damn lesson that didn't even make sense?
The two men stopped and watched. Leaving you in a panting mess, but cried even more when you saw Kenny beating Levi to death. "You've gotten soft." Another hard kick in the face. You saw blood trickle down to his nose. "Getting all weak just for some girl? You're just like you mother." A kick in the gut, making Levi cough out more blood. "LEVI! STOP PLEASE..." Your voice cracked. Someone get us out of this shit.
Having enough. Kenny pulled Levi by his collar. "Get up, you runt. I never thought you to let your guard down." Head butting Levi in full force. But not missing out the small mutter.
"Fight."
Levi forced his eyes open. Was Kenny trying to get him stronger? Or was he just taunting once again. Distracted by his thoughts, Kenny was about to pull a final blow on Levi when—
"NOW!" The door was kicked down, allowing Mikasa and the others in to fight. Everyone charged after them, including the ones holding Levi down and the ones roaming you. "Damn runts." Kenny cursed, loading his weapon. Levi took this opportunity to kick him by the legs. Grunting to get up, Levi scored a harder kick on Kenny's gut, making him cough out loud.
Levi sighs in relief, thanking Mikasa before going into battle with the others. "Y-you bastards." Turning around he saw Kenny, with the blonde woman supporting him before swinging away from the cabin. Hearing a choking like sound, Levi's eyes went red when he saw the two men that had touched you in ways a man or others shouldn't and charging after them.
No longer feeling the hard wooden floor, or the cold pole behind your back. Your eyes fluttered open. "S-so bright..." You said, eyes averting away from the light.
"Captain!" Mikasa called, in her hands were the keys to his cuff. While uncuffing him, Hanji was already uncuffing you from the pole. "Shh, you're safe now." She cooed, "Moblit! Grab her clothes and follow me out." She ordered. "Roger!" Moblit followed as Hanji wrapped her green coat on you before picking you up and running out.
"Good job, Jean!" Armin yelled. "If it wasn't for you we would've gotten here sooner!" Connie added before killing another scout.
"Good job, Jean." Armin said. "Yeah, if it weren't for you we would've finished all these bastards and came here!" Connie nodded, killing another scout.
Almost everyone of the scouts had been wiped out by Levi due to his rage. But none of them experienced the gruesome kill he had wight the two.
"She's awake!"
"I can tell shitty glasses."
You turned your head and saw Levi and Hanji. "Hey, (Y/n)." Hanji greeted with a sad smile on her face looking at you. Your face was bandaged up from the pain it went through. "You were asleep in two days. Eren and Historia are back. You should've seen the massive Titan out there." Hanji said, trying the lighten up the mood. She sighed, putting a hand on Levi's shoulder, he nodded and took it as her cue to leave the two of you alone.
Ashamed, you thought. You couldn't look at Levi anymore. "I'm sorry.." gripping the white sheets tightly. "I-I...." Feeling yourself get pulled into a hug, you relaxed into his hold. "You have nothing to be apologizing for." Levi softly spoke. Pulling away, leaning his forehead to yours.
"What happened back there. Will never happen again." Softly kissing your bandaged cheek. "No one will ever lay another hand on you wrongly." Kissing the tip of your nose. After retrieving Eren and Historia, Kenny had told Levi why he had done it before dying.
"I only wanted you to protect the only family you had unlike how I let your mother go out alone."
Looking deeply into your eyes, he kissed your lips gently. Afraid to break you even more in your fragile state. "I love you. I'll protect you no matter what." He said caressing your hands lovingly. "I'll explain every shitty things that happened Hanji was telling you about a while ago." He said before helping you up. "Come on, Historia will be crowned Queen." He offered a small smile at you and nodded at him.
After the ceremony, everyone came and asked how you were. Slightly shaken up, you hid in Levi's side most of the time making him growl and hold a protective arm on you. Understanding the others comforted you until you were fully better.
"I promise." Levi said, looking at you, as if you were the precious thing life has to offer him.
"I'm going to protect you with all my life."
Little by little, you began to lighten up again.

I still don’t know if I should make Mikasa an orphan or not in that scenario. But I guess maybe not, she won’t tell her parents the reason why she and Eren divorced and as years passes by, they lose contact with the Yeagers with how busy they are tending to Mikasa.
God Imagine one time, as he was about to go into Mikasa’s ward, he saw Mrs. Ackerman sniffing and crying as she holds her daughter’s hands while Mikasa and her brother comforts her mom. But her brother can’t help but cry as well.
i mean if mikasa was an orphan, eren would have kenny and levi to deal with and well...lol maybe he'd deserve that.
man mikasa just looking so frail and near death and can you just imagine eren's face as he watches her look so frail and broken. and what's worse is that after everything, she's still sweet and kind to him. and you know, i really want him to realize what he lost and what he's about to lose.

Levi Ackerman x Fiancée! Reader
Summary: Kenny the Ripper has discovered the ultimate carrot to his stick-- Levi's fiancée. Levi races to rescue her; out for blood and on a rampage. Nothing but a humble baker, and none the wiser for all the horrors that Levi's job entails, Reader witnesses the darkest, most monstrous sides of her betrothed that she was unprepared to see.
WARNINGS: VIOLENCE, gore (just a little bit!), anxiety attacks, reader going in shock.
Word Count: 2.3K
Genre: Angst, Fluff, Hurt and Comfort
A/N: I tried my best to write this from a well-informed place, and decided that it would make sense for reader to be a civilian for her to be more susceptible to anxiety attacks. Truthfully, this is more like the reader went into shock after a traumatic event, but I'd hate to bungle up writing about a serious mental health issue I don't experience and don't really fully understand. I hope that's okay with ya'll!

Levi clutched your engagement ring in his hand as he and his squad swiftly rode through Reiss lands, and to the Reiss Chapel. It wasn’t only a race against time to save Eren from being eaten by Christa—no, Historia—but for Captain Levi, it was his nightmare fully realized; his fiancée has been abducted by Kenny the Ripper.
With the wind whipping past his hair, Levi clenches his jaw at how horrified you must be. How a dirty man like Kenny would contort your bright and lovely face into one of fear and anguish, and it sickens Levi. He knew his job meant he would deal with dangerous men. He knew you were no soldier like he was—you just happened to be an unassuming baker with the most dazzling smile the all-too-serious Captain’s ever seen, and has promptly fallen in love with, like love was the easiest thing in the world—and goddamn it, he should’ve protected you better.
But Levi, strong as he was, could never have predicted that it would be Kenny the Ripper, the man who’s taught him everything he knows, would also be the man to snatch his everything away from him.
Levi knew Kenny doesn’t shy away from dirty tactics. A particularly dangerous trait when combined with his endless ambition, arrogance, and pride. And so when the last of Kenny’s men sped away with Eren and Historia’s wagon in tow, and flicked an all too familiar ring at him, Levi knew Kenny’s found the ultimate carrot on a stick—your life, for Levi to face him.
“Fuck.”
Levi rode his horse harder.

When Levi Squad finally infiltrated the Reiss’ underground cave, the Captain quickly barked at his soldiers to pursue Kenny’s men while he went after Kenny himself. After cutting down several of the First Interior Squad with the ease of a knife slicing through butter, Levi found you in one of the smaller chambers tucked away amongst the iceburst stone.
Levi could feel the familiar rush of strength coursing through veins, like electricity charging up his muscles for a fight to the death, at the sight of you. You’ve been tied against a pillar, still wearing your baker’s apron, a knotted piece of cloth gagging you from screaming. Your hair has been visibly pulled and manhandled from its usual pleat; your clothes, in much the same messed up and dirtied state. Kenny’s men charged at Levi far too quickly before he could assess the scope of your injuries, if any. But your tearful cry for him at least told him that you were alive.
~
You immediately called out for your fiancé at the sight of him—his cheek sliced open, smelling like smoke, gunpowder, and gas.
He was here! He found you!
But something about him stopped you.
He looked… menacing.
You’ve never seen Levi this way. A frightening snarl was painted on his hard features, looking like a madman unhinged and let loose only to leave carnage and blood in the wake of his every slice and slash at flesh and bone. Men were dropping around him like flies.
You barely recognized this Levi. Your ears rang at the gurgled echoes of death as your captors choked on their own blood, bled out from their open guts. Meanwhile, Levi just cut through them without so much of a grunt.
It’s just metal clanging on metal, and gunshots ringing out at stone. Faintly, you can hear orders being shouted out, and the cavern around you sprinkling down stone dust and debris as it shook from the ricocheting bullets.
Was this really the Levi who promised you his beating heart? The soldier who’s strong, and safe hands held you like you were the most priceless thing in the world?
The man you swore to marry?
And when you couldn’t watch any longer, a knife was held to your throat.
“Ah, ah, ah.”
It was the tall man in the fedora— the leader of your captors.
“It would be such a shame if I accidentally sliced yer girlfriend’s pretty little neck, eh?”
Levi’s sharp, bloodthirsty eyes flashed between you and the man holding you hostage.
“Let her go, Kenny.”
Levi’s voice was nothing like you’ve ever heard, either. It was dark and dangerous. The voice of a killer.
“Or what?” Kenny sneered, his grip on you tightening.
Levi only clicked his tongue, adjusting his stance for a fight.
“Didn’t I teach ya any better, Levi?” Kenny started pressing the blade of his knife into your skin. “Don’t let yerself have a weakness, or men like me will wrench that shit of ya until you’re cornered like a rat.”
It was then that the whole cave shook from an explosion.
In a flash, Levi swoops in to cut Kenny’s side. Kenny stumbled back, letting you go, and shot at Levi. Levi blocked the bullet with his blade, as his squad flooded in the chamber.
“Captain! We gotta go!” A soldier with closely cropped hair and an undercut called out.
Already bleeding out, Kenny reached out for you in a last ditch effort to slit your throat, and was promptly shot in his left chest by a brunette woman’s arrow.
Swiftly, Levi turns to free you. He breathes out your name. His face a picture of worry, his voice coarse and exhausted. Levi reaches to cup your tearstained face, but stops himself at the sight of his blood-soaked hands.
Instead, he starts cutting you free of your bonds and your gag. His actions were gruff and hurried. But his eyes were desperately searching into yours. Assessing your body if you’ve been hurt in any way.
“I’ve got you, I’ve got you. You’ll be okay. It’ll be okay.”
Once you’ve been free, Levi moves to finally take you in his arms and run, except you freeze.
He didn’t miss the way your eyes remained wide and glazed over.
He says your name again, louder this time. Hurriedly telling you, “You need to move for me, dear. You need to let me take you. We need to run. Please.”
Levi isn’t calling you a brat today.
Yet, you remained as still as stone. Arms held up against your chest as if protecting yourself, hands shaking, eyes looking past Levi’s.
You were still unresponsive.
A bullet whizzes past Levi’s ear, cursing as he jumps back and faces an injured but still-fighting Kenny.
The cave continued to crumble around them.
“Ya gotta do better than that to take me out, runt!” Kenny growls out, engaging in combat with Levi once more.
In the mess, Levi manages to call out, “JEAN! She’s in shock!”
Quickly, the soldier with cropped hair and undercut sweeps in to take you, and carries you out the cavern and into the main cave-- his face serious; not asking his Captain any questions about this random girl he just saved.
In a stroke of luck and speed, Levi slashes another gash on Kenny’s chest. Kenny’s back hits the stone wall, and with a broken yelp, gets buried in a sudden rain of stone, stalagmite, and debris.
“Get out of the cave! Take Eren and Historia!” Levi barks to his squad, as they fly past the crumbling cave pillars. He’s quickly informed that Rod Reiss has transformed into a titan, Historia’s been secured, and that Eren too, has transformed and is using his hardening abilities to keep the cave from collapsing altogether.
“Tsk. Then let’s take cover under Eren—“
“Captain! I found an opening!” the woman with the bow and arrows shouts.
“Follow Sasha!” Levi orders, watching as Jean zooms to the exit after Sasha, with you still quiet and unmoving in his arms.
~
It took a few days before Levi could finally find a moment alone with you. Between slaying Rod Reiss and crowning the new Queen, Levi could only delegate your care and need for medical attention to his most trusted soldiers.
When he entered your room with a soft click, you were already thankfully conscious and lucid.
The moment Jean took you out of the cave, and the gravity of all that’s happened crashed down on you, you fell faint and unconscious. Levi vividly remembers gathering you in his arms from Jean’s; finally able to hold you since you were kidnapped. His squad watched on as their valiant Captain anxiously tried to wake you up. And when you wouldn’t, painfully croaked out to his soldiers:
“Help her.”
It was then that a battered and bruised Hange came over to Levi with a comforting hand.
“Here. Let me take her, Levi.”

The sight of your fiancé in your little candlelit room was no unusual one. You’ve seen this scene many times before, and have always thought that Levi and his serious gaze never seemed out of place in your bedroom. After all, this man has seen more of you than any other man has in this very room. In this very bed.
But tonight was different. Tonight you didn’t see your fiancé in your room.
You saw a rampaging killer.
Like clockwork, the moment you were reminded of your abduction and the subsequent carnage of your rescue, you start freezing up. Your chest tightens, and quickly, it gets hard to breathe. Your eyes are blown wide now, and your muscles feel taught.
“Ssh, ssh, darling.” Levi darts over to you, hoping to comfort you.
But he stops himself at the sight of you recoiling from him.
You were afraid of him.
You bow your head into your folded knees, unable to look at the man you loved. Unable to bear the hurt look in his eyes.
Without a word, he walks over to the music box on your bedside table—a beautifully ornate little thing that you inherited from your grandmother. Calmly, he winds up the music box, and it opens up to reveal the dancing figures within, a stream of dreamy, tinkling music filling the quiet room.
Carefully, and as delicately as he can like he was handling a newborn babe, Levi lifts your head up to look at him. The candlelight has washed your teary eyes and flushed cheeks a golden hue.
He whispers your name. Whispers it like a prayer.
“Will you let me hold you?”
Breathing heavily now, you nod your head tearfully.
Levi sits on your bed beside you, and gently cradled you to his chest. His arms were as warm and as comfortable as you remember them. How could such sure and gentle hands with the sweetest touch inflict so much ruthless pain and violence?
“Breathe with me. Slowly.”
You feel the rise and fall of his chest. The steady cadence of his beating heart helping you regulate your breathing.
You were trembling.
And oh, if only you could see the anguished look on Levi’s face when he felt you trembling like a wounded bird.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry you had to see me like that. You were so brave, but I—I should’ve protected you, I should’ve kept you safe.”
Levi’s words were muffled from where he spoke them against your hair. You still smelled like pastries—like vanilla and bread.
You burrowed yourself deeper into his arms, still breathing.
The continued clinking of the music box blanketed you both as you let your body be completely supported by Levi’s strong one. He started rocking you in his arms, like you were slow-dancing to the melody of the music box.
And you let him.
You allowed him to bear all that’s plagued your mind these past few days. Allowed him to carry all of you.
When Levi felt you calming down, he whispers, “That’s it, that’s my girl.”
Until, the music box stopped playing.
You slowly looked up to your fiancé. And for the first time, you speak.
“Levi…”
He says your name back, returning your earnest gaze.
“I—I forgive you. It’s alright. I’m alright.”
Levi couldn’t help himself. He lets out a deeply relieved sigh, his strong hands moving to cup your lovely face…
And then Levi kisses you.
Here is a man who’s darkest, dirtiest, and most terrifying demons have been revealed to you. And yet, here is a man whose kind, kind heart has turned your love into the most precious thing in his world; his only sin? Nothing but being flawed.
His kisses are desperate-- telling you so much more than words can. Much like the man himself.
When you finally parted, Levi held your hand.
“Allow me.”
He took out your engagement ring from his pocket. It was a simple, dainty thing with a pale blue stone set in a silver band. Levi would never forget the rush he felt the day he proposed to you. Even more so the sparkle in your eyes when you said yes. While admiring your ring, you’d tell Levi that it was perfect. That all you had to do to see his gunmetal eyes on days that he was on duty, was to look down on your finger—the stone was his eyes’ exact shade of blue.
From where you were sitting on the bed, Levi gets up, and kneels before you. Before you could say any more, he says your name.
“When I asked you to marry me, I told you that you make me want to be a better man. And now, you’ve seen me at my worst.” Levi pursed his lips.
“But you—you deserve a man at his best. You deserve only the best of me, and yet here you are, still accepting me. And so.” Levi holds up the ring to your finger.
“I’m on my knees again, promising to love you, and honor you, and keep you safe at my best.” He whispers your name like it was poetry. “Will you still marry me?”
You did not hesitate.
“Every single time, Levi.”
I enjoyed this wayyy too much! I hope you liked it, @peace-for-levi HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LOVE!!!
