Are They a Stoner? DS9 Edition:

Captain Sisko: Being raised in the south means he has most definitely lit up, and I refuse to believe otherwise. However, after his father caught him smoking and he got stuck on clam duty for a month, he learned his lesson.

Jadzia Dax: Let’s be so real, if she played Tongo with a bunch of Ferengi why would she not own a Betazed bong??? She definitely begged Worf to try it but after his experience with Deanna he only fucks with Blood Wine.

Kira Nerys: OH 100% she was a stoner during the occupation. How would you even attempt to relax in that situation WITHOUT weed? Once the occupation ended Kira stopped messing with weed, but Kira would often hangout with Jadzia, who no doubt brought something to share with Nerys on multiple occasions.

Worf: Blood wine and prune juice.

Dr. Bashir: Before knowledge of him being an augment was made public he never touched anything that could potentially make him not in full control of himself (he did drink a little though). After the knowledge was made public Dr. Bashir and O’Brien definitely were lighting up in the holosuites. That’s why they don’t remember the Alamo.

Erzi Dax: She was straight edge through and through before she was joined with Dax. However afterward…Let’s just say Dax would never turn down an edible.

Odo:

Elim Garak: After the wire was removed Garak decided to stay relatively sober. However, for harm reduction reasons, and to help him cope with his headaches Dr. Bashir prescribed him some medical gummies. He eventually waned off of them completely once Erzi started helping him (he still some times smokes and sews which is why sometimes your trousers don’t always fit right).

Miles O’ Brien: He swore off the “devils lettuce” when he first came aboard the Enterprise. But once stationed at DS9 he quickly realized he would need some of Keiko’s supply of Cannabis-infused tea to remain sane.

Quark: Being a bar owner (best bar on the promenade btw) he is not a big supporter of weed because his main source of profit is alcohol. However, Nog explained to him what a cart is and how you can make a profit from selling them to hoo-mans so he is looking into that as a possible new business opportunity.

Rom: You can’t be a leftist and not have at least tried weed. Also an engineer, so yeah.

Leeta: Oh 10000%. In fact, she’s the plug for the other dabo girls. She even bags her “merchandise” in handmade baggies she makes from recycled textile/fabrics from Garak’s (he owes her because she gave him boy advice).

Nog: No. He follows the rules of StarFleet academy to a T.

Jake Sisko: Hes going to school for writing so yeah. Definitely an edibles kinda guy. His dad has yet to find out despite how many times Jake has come home and slammed an entire pot of jambalaya in 10 minutes.

Keiko O’Brien: Who do you think on DS9 is growing it in the first place?

Gul Dukat: No, he is a snitch who hates fun.

Weyoun: Yes, he is a snitch who loves fun.

Kai Winn: She gives me cop vibes more than Odo does so I’m saying she is a snitch who also hates fun. She also unironically calls weed the Pah-Wraiths Herb or something like that.

Kasidy Yates: Yes, but stopped after jail.

Ziyal: Art school attendee/ art school drop-out. You tell me.

Damar: He’s only a fiend for Kanar (someone help that dude).

the thing about star trek is that it’s so REAL like if I’m watching nerys and jadzia chatting in ops then I will be wondering hmm I wonder what o brien is doing? he’s probably fixing something on the station rn.... or maybe he’s at home with chester bc it’s his day off...... maybe he’s on shore leave and holidaying on bajor w keiko rn....... sisko is probably in his office maybe he’s filling out reports? julian might be in surgery right now, or maybe not, maybe he’s in the turbo lift and he’s on his way to ops right now!!!!!!! the point is that it’s so real that I know they’re doing things even when I can’t see them. like how I know the stars are always there.

Also also what the fuck why did O'Brien not call Keiko one time when all that was happening??? When will she return and does she get an arboretum? I think it's unfair to make her take the kid down on a survey tbh. Not that the station is a great place for her rn anyway. Man anyway I need to digest that first two parter it was a lot.

keiko will come back a bit end of season 4 and shes around periodically in the rest of the seasons im not exactly sure why she left i dont know if rosalind chao was busy and took on other work so she was written out a bit or if they just sort of threw their hands up and gave up on writing her and just wrote her out for a lot of the show for that reason which has always kinda bothered me since ds9 otherwise is very good at developing all the more minor characters

thoughts on Garak teaching Molly O’Brien spy skills

OKAY SO, these tags left by @ridingrootless on my post about Garak and Keiko being BFFs are extremely good, and I agree 100%. Also, I def have some thoughts about doting!uncle!Garak/spymaster!Garak and spy!apprentice!Molly and it is time for me to share them with the world!

From one of my Garashir fics, here’s a paragraph where I briefly allude to the concept of Molly picking up some basic spy skills from Garak:

“Oooooh, are you gonna give flowers to Mr. Garak?!” Molly squealed excitedly, and bounded over, eager to hear his answer. Garak would be so proud of her aptitude for surveillance and interrogation, Julian thought, amused. A moment ago she had been quietly playing with blocks on the other side of the room, and he hadn’t given her presence a second thought. Now he was being stared up at by the kindest, most adorable, most loving eyes imaginable, and of course he was going to confess.

Molly learning spy shit from Garak was not really meant to be literal in that fic, it was mostly just saying something about how Julian views the world through the lens of loving Garak and loving all things spy-related, BUT it led me to the following galaxy brain concept (paraphrased from the comments on my fic):

Garak fully understands the information-gathering power of children and makes sure to befriend Molly. Molly was Garak’s real intelligence target all along, and Garak openly pursuing Julian was an intentional red herring to divert attention away from his actual info source. No one ever suspects that half the station’s security leaks are a result of Molly overhearing something/asking about something at dinner and then simply telling it to Garak when he asks about it, either bc she doesn’t realize it was supposed to be a secret or maybe bc she just likes playing the fun spy game with her nice uncle Garak.

Spy!apprentice!Molly would likely require Garak and Keiko hanging out a lot too obvs, but that is, in fact, not a problem at all as we have collectively determined in the tags and replies of my definitive post on the matter of Garak&Keiko=bffs lol

Anyway, I would LOVE it if someone would either write something about spy!Molly + spymaster!Garak, OR point me to pre-existing fics with these vibes, OR give me good enough ideas about what the plot of such a fic could be that I become obsessed with writing it myself and instantly throw all of my other WIPs on the backburner, OR just share your headcanons about this with me or the world, OR all of the above, lol

keep thinking about keiko o brien telling miles ‘you know, that was a very ugly thing you just said.’ after miles told her that gentleness was “bred out” of Cardassians a long time ago...

#she was a good character #made to check him #i think his 'racism' ('speciesism' to be more accurate/borrow a term from my environment and society class)#is something that is often given a pass because he has a japanese wife and a poc best friend (s6 behind the scenes w siddig saying bashir's #ethnicity was never explicitly stated - which he liked but bashir was still nonwhite)#but #especially with his trial on cardassia #im glad they were able to bring it up and confront his prejudice even if its something that wasn't ever entirely resolved #i was wondering if there were any ways you see that he's made progress but he doesn't get along with garak like julian does #and i feel like i distinctly remember him using ziyal as an indication that he's NOT prejudiced #though im sure because she's half bajoran part of his ease in being able to speak to her was because he viewed her strictly as bajoran #anyway. thoughts on post-war race relations from a japanese/white person who is maybe projecting a little about my family onto ds9 #captain's log #trek
