I've read a lot of fics where Bashir gains enough self awareness to realize that his little "frontier medicine" spiel was a fucked up thing to say to Kira.

I understand the wish fulfillment. However. Let us be for real for just one moment:

Kira has logged it in her memory and weighed every new piece of information about the good doctor against that fucked up thing he said about her homeland. But Julian was already three thoughts past it as soon as the words were out of his mouth. He will never think about that sentence again. He will never realize why he made a terrible first impression. Unless someone sits him down and explains point by point why it was a messed up thing to say, he will never understand. And no one is going to do that.

garak would never judge julian for having an emotional support teddy bear because when garak was fifteen he had an emotional support pet lizard (which he named after his mum despite it being a boy lizard. still not over that) and talking to it like a crazy person was loadbearing to his sanity. I feel that maybe even more so than anyone else, he'd Get It. and I just think that's beautiful

I rewatched Civil Defense and it's really funny to me that Bashir, the CMO, was just hanging around ops at the time because it reminds me exactly of a previous job I had where most of us would be stationed in one place on a rotation and then a couple of people each shift would be designated to rove around and you better believe when I was roving and it was quiet enough I was spending 90% of that time walking around bugging my friends at their stations. I'm so spiritually sure that when Bashir is bored while on duty he's just wondering the station visiting his friends and distracting them from work

Just realized the reason Julian is on screen making excuses for being in Ops while clearly gossiping (post Starfleet retaking the station) is because Garak is busy breaking codes and Julian doesn't get to have lunch with him as much. =(
