I don’t even keep up with Boruto, but this physically hurt to read

Like dude, holy shit. What an asshole thing to say.
If Kishimoto(?) was trying to make their relationship come off as uncomfortable and forced he nailed it

NARUTO COMPLEXITY
⚠️Sorry, this is going to be long and I may sound repetitive at times!! I have to say this is my point of view thought I tried to make it as objective as possible!! Hope you like it!! Also I apologize for a bad use of grammar and vocabulary since English is not my first language!!⚠️
This post is dedicated to exploring and analyzing Naruto’s characters through the whole series including Boruto. Starting with Naruto, he is supposed to be a pure and innocent boy, naive who doesn’t understand feelings and seeks acceptance from other people in search to experience those positive feelings such love, friendship and what feels like to have a family.
Tumblr media
Since Naruto was young he tried to get attention from other people even if this attention resulted in disgust towards him, he acted out of fear of being alone, just imagine a child living alone in an old flat located on the outskirts of the village which is probably a dangerous area full of criminals arm with swords, shuriken…
Like this isn’t enough he is hated by the whole village without him knowing the reason and the only support came in money from Sarutobi, I suppose being the third hokage took a lot of time and he did what he could with Naruto but at the same time I think you shouldn’t just give money for the rent to only a child and that’s it. I think he wanted to secure his image at the same time protecting Naruto and the villagers from harm (if the villagers noticed that the hokage was supporting “the demon” they probably would have started to distrust Sarutobi and a fight between the higher ups and the villagers to get ride of Naruto would have taken place because of the fear of thinking that Sarutobi is allying with the enemy), so he chose to spend less time with him, which is not the best decision but it was made with good intentions.
Then Naruto has a goal and a dream, to be recognized and accepted by everyone becoming the hokage, that translates to turn the hate into love, the naive dream of being loved by everyone (falling in love with being in love, like Ada said, (fall in love with the love from others, when mother said “you just loved how much I loved you” in the movie Mother, which I recommend, they touched on this topic) Naruto is really idealistic and romantic (romantic not as love but as romanticism), themes that are presented in classic literature and offend end in tragedy, It almost looks like part of Naruto is heavily inspired by Romanticism literature, for example some similarities are that it is really idealistic, it has drama, love, tragedy, though the ending may not be the best it could be actually be considered a happy one.
The definition of Naruto’s personality as a selfless and self-sacrifice person. His worse fear is to be ignore and be alone, that is why he is loud and problematic, to attract eyes towards him. He is not self centered, he is the whole opposite, he cares a lot about what other people say that is why he is explosive since young, he is sad and shows that sadness with anger and a fleeing personality.
The first person that makes him not feel alone is Sasuke and this is really important, we have two kids with problems, they are obviously different from Naruto point of view but then one afternoon he sees Sasuke alone and they meet eyes, this is a really important scene they see themselves reflected in each other eyes that is why Naruto finally recognizes Sasuke and Sasuke sees Naruto who used to be only an annoying child, and with this it shows an union, two children who hates each other because of their differences have a lot in common and ends in them being the only ones to truly understand each other pain and loneliness. Thought this is more complicated since Sasuke knows about love, what is a family, what is friendship and he is popular and loved by teachers and students, but he also experienced since really a young age the pressure to be part of an important clan and to have a genius brother being constantly compare to you by everyone even his family, though his mother tried to calm him down by saying Itachi is different this is really bad to say to a child!! This comment will make him think that he is less that Itachi and will create distance between his brother and family, it will end in an inferiority complex.
Through Naruto’s series he will be so obsessed with revenge he will forget about himself and others, hurting the people that loves him in the process, he is so fixated in revenge that he forgets there’s more than just killing his brother but he is stuck in the past, showing obvious signs of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), OCD (obsessive compulsive syndrome). He could be compare with Coriolanus Snow from the Hunger Games who loved someone, looked like a good person and was loved by his family but his obsession with power made him a villain and someone to be feared. Like Niccolò Machiavelli said “the end justifies the means”, this is their ideology, thought Sasuke is still unable to kill Naruto, his feelings towards him are so big that killing him is worse than committing suicide.
Tumblr media
Following Naruto, he is someone who only knows about negative feelings that is why he seeks acceptance an love, he is in love with the idea of love like Ada, he chooses Sakura as his crush because she is really intelligent and a very good student (I believe Sakura has the same fear as Naruto, she was bullied because of her forehead and she wants to be liked by everyone, so she studies hard to be the best student and if Sasuke who is the most popular and handsome boy sees her then those bullies who constantly hurt her about her appearance will shut their mouth, so just as Naruto she wants to be seen and recognized, though the way they act is different, Sakura is really insecure and has to prove herself through others praise this probably because of the bulling even if Ino is there they got separated at some point which made Sakura limit herself even more, she is like a white canvas that change not because of what she likes but what the others want to see on her. Sasuke likes long hair then she will have long her even though she obviously prefers a shortcut, that is why Ino was really important in her life, she was the first to tell her she is beautiful and she doesn’t need to listen to other bullies but Sakura necessity of being recognize through Sasuke and Ino liking Sasuke made them get separated and a healthier development for Sakura to explore herself with the help of someone to support and guide her as an equal was stopped). Sakura didn’t fall in love with Sasuke, she fell in love with the idea he represented.
Also Sakura’s inner voice is totally normal, it is not her having another personality it is just showing her subconscious and unconscious mind who everyone has. Just stop and analyze yourself then you will notice a tiny voice going on an on, it is just your brain thinking, it is completely normal. This reflects real Sakura, what she desires compare of how she acts to be liked by other people, or didn’t you notice for example a friend showing you a dress and you telling them is beautiful to not hurt their feelings but inside you are thinking it is horrible, it’s the same thing with Sakura is very human!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can’t analyze Naruto’s characters like Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke without taking account of their closest influence including each other, Kurama, Jiraya, Iruka, Ino, Tsunade, Sarutobi, Kakashi, Gaara, Rock Lee and maybe Sai with the other friends such as Shikamaru and Choji… So continuing with Naruto who works really hard the same as Sasuke and Sakura (even thought he doesn’t know and thinks of then just as genio is), but contrary of them he doesn’t obtain results ending in frustration, (thought he does gardening which is something psychologist recommend, is really good to maintain the mind relax focused and concentrate in just one thing and make yourself conscious of reality, this is to make the brain take a break from overthinking which saturates it, make it concentrate in just one thing at a time will help you to control yourself, it could be through meditation, but also through gardening, doing crafts, reading whatever you like always doing it without pressure just to enjoy, understand your feelings and let them pass being conscious of them but not avoid or succumb to them just taking notice of reality and that those negative thoughts and feelings exist and you can just let the past without judging yourself), (judging is negative while feedback is positive).
Tumblr media
At the beginning of Naruto, since the first episode, you see Iruka as a parental figure to Naruto who loves him and supports him, who scolds him and teaches him, who protects him and accepts him, and Naruto realizes he is not alone, but also discovering that he is seen as a monster because he has a “demon” inside him. This gives him a reason to prove himself as a separate entity from Kurama and confirms the possibility of being loved and accepted because of Iruka (a villager who feared and hated him from killing his parents, but Iruka realized that he didn’t hate Naruto but the demon inside him thanks to the guidance from Sarutobi), and that is enough for him to keep trying.
Tumblr media
Naruto’s goal to be hokage is getting stronger, but he is too worry about it to stop and analyze himself the same happened with Sakura and Sasuke.
The boy wants to love and be loved but he didn’t even know the meaning of this feelings that is why Naruto, the series, is about self discovery, the most important part when people realized what they are or want to be is during their teen years that is why we see the characters going through a roller coaster of emotions!!
Kishimoto has called Naruto too idealistic and naive who didn’t understand Sasuke, Sasuke as a pure and self-centered and Sakura as more than just cuteness!!
If we analyze it I interpret that Naruto love for Sasuke is too pure and he is too naive, someone that doesn’t understand love and is experiencing it, he is supposed to realized that he loves Sasuke in a different way and there are different kinds of love but it is still too early to understand, Sasuke who understands love and experienced all kinds of love realized that what he feels for Naruto is romantic love, that is why he gets frustrated at him when called his brother or friend, but Naruto that at the end explains what means to be his friend, (which is the same Ada said in Boruto to Mitsuke when explaining her love to Kawaki) he realized that he was special and their feelings were the same even if Naruto didn’t notice the difference.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And both, Ada and Naruto called themselves fools because of love!!
Now Sakura is not cute, it was said by Kishimoto, but for real being cute or not is not that important that is why Kishimoto says she is more than just cuteness!! She is intelligent and determined and if she wanted she could be really powerful remember she is the best at understanding and controlling chakra a quick learner, and she is the smartest of the three but her fixation in Sasuke limited her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Talking about Naruto’s development as a person, for me Naruto puts a lot of limits on himself because he wants to pleased everyone and is scare of what other people will think of him. Naruto’s world is closed minded, with traditional thoughts, the representation of Japan at that time. The same way Sakura chose Sasuke, Naruto chose Sakura. Though I think he realized that what he felt for Sakura is the same he felt for others like Shikamaru or Choji, still since he liked Sakura a lot as a friend he thought it was good to love her, he didn’t understand what romantic love is, he just wanted to experience it, to explore it and to not be lonely.
His self dicovery soon would be questioned in the form of Sai, a sexualize boy who will make Naruto question his sexaulity, Naruto has never show interest in any woman, (he actually show interest in one and that one looked like Sasuke and that’s it) even Jiraya thinks it is strange for a teenager full of hormones to not get interested in beautiful woman or describe porn as boring. But Naruto gets loud and nervous towards Sai, he gets shy and blush when bathing with naked men and protected himself hiding under the water (it reminds me of the bath scene from Mulan), to make it more obvious for the readers Kishimoto makes Yamato say that Naruto shouldn’t act strange between men, showing what Naruto felt and Yamato acting as their society that they categorize his behavior as strange and not normal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Naruto starts to understand himself and the possibility of being sexually attract to men but is afraid of what other people would say and rejects himself, he is just a repressed boy. He doesn’t like Sai he is a person who doesn’t care about being labelled and shows interest in Naruto without embarrassment (because yes, Sai is someone who doesn’t understand himself not his feelings but being with Naruto and Sakura made him understand what friendship was, the way he act showing it made Naruto nervous overthinking things because he was attracted to him and being too close made him nervous at how careless Sai was). He also got nervous and overreacted with Kakashi when he praised him thinking he likes him, and when ask what he is thinking about, when he is thinking about Sasuke changes and says he is thinking of going on a date with Sakura, which could be also a way to make others don’t worry about him being so upset and depressed about Sasuke or it could be his repressed feelings towards him, which he unconsciously has but is not aware of them and their meaning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Naruto Shippuden we see a development of Sakura’s character, in the first part she cut her hair symbolizing breaking through her fixation in being and do everything to please Sasuke, now in Shippuden to me she started to see herself as a whole, with her own identity, separating herself from Sasuke.
The decision of Sasuke leaving was positive for her character, she found a new goal and her feelings for Sasuke became more dull. I would say that see started to see Naruto as a love interest, someone good for her, a good friend that respects her but since she is observant and intelligent realized Naruto’s real feelings at the end and decided to not confess or she didn’t realized her feelings towards Naruto because she was too fixated in Sasuke and was confused at her change of heart.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Sasukeas I said before, he always knew about Naruto’s feelings that is why when Naruto says that for him Sasuke is a friend he looks angry an confuse, as Kishimoto said Naruto is just too naive to understand Sasuke frustration, he showed it pretty clear, and as a Chinese proverb says “A picture is worth a thousand words”
Tumblr media
Naruto is idealistic and naive, in this picture he is oblivious and daydreams imagining his own world without realizing that his world is centered around Sasuke and him, and that makes Sasuke frustrated because Naruto doesn’t understand his feelings. Naruto is obviously drawn in a compromising way, he is wearing shorts and a shirt, or maybe he is not wearing a shirt with the angle we can’t tell for sure, that shows a lot of skin, Sasuke is supposed to be thirsty but he is lost looking at him that he forgot the water, then we have Sakura looking at Sasuke, and Kakashi who is in his own world Xd. The water could be a representation of arousal, sexual deviance and the repression of desire.
Even thought at the end Sasuke understands Naruto, the guilt overtakes him and he decides to leave the village for redemption hoping that when he returns Naruto will be there for him but he is not, Naruto moved on and is getting married and Sasuke distanced himself from him too hurt to attend the wedding, also sending a poor congratulating letter which feels more like a mocking than anything else, though we don’t know what happened for two years, from Sasuke leaving to Naruto marrying Hinata, so maybe many things could have happened, I say this because Naruto seems to have changed, he looked serious when marring Hinata and he sleeps in another room separate from her, he is a workalcoholic and spends little time with his kids, he is a bad father.
People will get mad saying it doesn’t make sense, Naruto doesn’t understand love in The Last and he is a bad father but they forget that he never had a father or mother and he doesn’t understand the different kinds of love so through his adulthood he realized his feelings for Sasuke, that is why when Kurama said that Sasuke and Naruto are like brothers he said that he never felt it that way, Sasuke has Itachi and Kurama is like a brother to him not labeling his relationship with Sasuke.
Tumblr media
Remember I said that he didn’t fell in love with Sakura but since he liked her as a friend and wasn’t able to differentiate the different types of love he confused it as a crush probably because he liked her (as a friend) and she was a girl.
Sakura was confused because she knew about Naruto’s feelings for Sasuke but at the end decided not to comment on it showing her dislike and opinion as a reflection of Naruto’s closed minded society, which is a critic to Japan’s society at the time, maybe it was not that and she just thought that Sasuke could hurt him again as she saw Naruto suffered during Shippuden. So instead of making him realized his feelings she encouraged Hinata thinking that she would be better for him, I believe she did it with good intentions but the decision she made was made based on her values and that wasn’t the correct decision for Naruto.
Tumblr media
This way of thinking also shows in Iruka, his parental figure, and Kakashi, they know but they don’t say anything, this is obvious when Iruka gets mad at Naruto deciding to marry Hinata but doesn’t encourage him to talk with Sasuke, Iruka suffers in secret and thinks he did wrong not talking with him but at the end he will just observe (we are talking about Iruka, he is extremely strict, diplomatic and a person who always follows rules and he didn’t prepared anything to say in the wedding day that should be enough in what he truly though of it), Kakashi also knows but he never served as an emotional support at that scale those were Jiraya, who died, and Iruka who is part of the same village, maybe he is just afraid of what they will think and how could affect Naruto’s reputation since his “dream” is to be hokage, which actually was to experience love and be loved (like Ada) and not feel lonely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last two pictures compare a Sasuke’s card vs a formal card to give in a wedding and if you notice the villagers card is like the formal one but Sasuke is different, like making fun of it!!
As this quotes says, “hell is paved with good intentions not with bad ones. All men mean well”. George Bernard Shaw
“For evil to flourish, it only requires good men to do nothing.” Simon Wiesenthal
“Bad decisions made with good intentions, are still bad decisions.” James C. Collins
A little poem reflecting Sasuke losing Naruto;
what's it to me
if you love me or
miss me or need me
when you are doing
nothing to be with me
if you can't allow me to be
the love of your life I will be
the loss of your life instead By Rupi Kaur
Japan at the time practiced arranged marriage, a marriage without love is not hard to imagine happening in Naruto’s world, even more between people with high occupations to unite important families. Hinata also commented on it.
The people that loves us can hurt us even if they have the best intentions.
Actually there are a lot of things that I didn’t say but I decided to stop here because if not it would be too long and for being repetitive!! Thank you for reading, hope you enjoyed it and feel free to comment!!
Also if you watched Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings you may notice why Kishimoto is so excited with Destin Daniel Cretton he really likes him because he is open minded, but actually the film when watching it reminded me a lot of Naruto!!

How do you think the relationship between Neji and Hinayana should have developed? Unfortunately, Hyuga clan didn’t get much screen time in Part 2. I’m curious how they gradually got closer and care for each other. It’s a great loss this part was almost ignored in the manga. I think it’s very important to the character development of both Hinata and Neji. Happy to hear any headcanon!
Thank you so much for the ask, I really appreciate it! ♥ Sorry for the late reply, real life will do that, and sorry that this got, ah, long.
I'm torn on the subject because Kishimoto kept the focus on Naruto and Sasuke for good reason and there's only so much he could have fit in of other character's lives -- but at the same time if Hinata was going to end up so important and Neji our beloved martyr, it would have been nice to see them get more to do.
At least the anime's love of Hinata means we tend to get a lot more about their relationship, which is nice, even if I don't always agree with what they do. Boruto's time travel arc provided some interesting stuff:
Tumblr media
Fascinating! They imagine that even in their recovering relationship, Neji is still acutely aware of his place in her life -- does he fear some kind of retribution for seeming too chummy with her, or does he fear that it will further drag down her reputation in the clan? As he goes on to explain to Boruto: NEJI: I belong to the branch family, so she is like my lord. BORUTO: But she calls you big brother. NEJI: We were raised together as siblings. I've told her not to call me that ... but Lady Hinata does not listen.
Hinata is very polite. She uses honorifics for everyone, and it's not sarcastic -- unlike Neji, whose use of '-sama' is contrasted with his lack of polite speech for her. Superficially, Hinata is being polite yet familiar, while Neji is rude and uses the honorific out of obligation. Yet I think Neji is also trying to create distance between them which Hinata is trying to counter, so in a way Hinata is crossing a boundary. Which is interesting! For a terminally anxious girl, Hinata can be surprisingly bold about taking the first step: she approaches Naruto in the chūnin exams, she jumps in front of Pain and confesses her love, and it seems with Neji, she even tried to keep reaching out to him despite his cruelty.
Hinata seems lonely in a familial sense. She's been virtually disowned, Hanabi is (in the anime very explicitly) her rival, her mother doesn't seem to be around ... I imagine she spends a lot of time trying to make connections, and Neji is an immediate family member who happens to be her peer, so naturally she seeks a relationship with him, especially because they had a good start. When you think about how simple and sweet their relationship when they first met was, it's very sad to think it was torn from them -- they were both left lonelier for the loss of it.
There's an added layer where you can also read some guilt or even pity in Hinata's response to him -- how much she knew about the Hyūga Affair is ambiguous, but she is aware of Neji's suffering in the clan because of his subordinate position.
Tumblr media
Interestingly, she prefaces this with "I can see it now ... that even more than me ..." which also suggests to me that Hinata was very wrapped up in her own problems and Neji has probably settled for a few jabs and walking off in the past so she hasn't been exposed to the depths of his feeling. I've said it before, but I think they were basically strangers at this point in time.
Once those lines of communication were finally opened, they probably found the things they have in common, and went forward from there. A sense of solidarity would be core to their relationship, and of course we're told that their mutual acknowledgement of each other basically fixed the clan. Which is a powerful thing! They've both been hurt and effectively pit against each other, and only by healing that relationship and themselves can they heal their clan.
Now, when it comes to Neji's side of things, his feelings are a lot more complicated! Undoubtedly there's an extreme level of resentment when we first see them together -- the "I hate seeing you happy" kind -- but at the same time, his backhanded compliments are only insults in the cynical ninja world.
Tumblr media
It's condescending and disrespectful, but he doesn't see Hinata as a bad person, just a useless one. If anything, you get the sense that Neji would like these traits in a person -- even admire them -- if he hadn't been left so jaded. We can see this from how much Neji liked Hinata when they first met, and it speaks to his own natural sweetness and light that all his trauma tried to steal from him. Which is certainly a theme of Naruto, of course, but it never stops making me sad.
In the most perfect of happy AUs Neji probably just ends up a more outgoing (if still refined) version of Hinata lmao. They really are meant to be two sides of the same coin.
When their relationship goes forward from this, the anime shows Neji training Hinata, and it's not hard to draw that conclusion from Neji and Hinata's ease fighting next to each other in the war. I think once Neji acknowledged Naruto's determination he also acknowledged hers, and can see him trying to give her the skills to match her willpower. I like to think he played a part in her growing confidence by showing faith in her abilities. I also think he probably practised being gentle with her. He hadn't let himself be that in a long time.
My main sticking point with the anime and a lot of fandom interpretation is this idea that Neji defaulted back to this 'Must protect Hinata-sama!' overprotective big brother mode (which I think is a disservice to him) or that they became besties. They're both gainfully employed child soldiers so they're plenty busy, Neji outranked her professionally while she continued to outrank him socially, they have other friends, and so forth. I'm sure they were amicable -- and fairly close -- but their lives had diverged a lot by the point that they reconciled.
Maybe with more time, and peace changing the dynamic of the world, and their clan (presumably) changing (officially) also, they would have gotten very close, but as it was, well ...
Ultimately, for me, I find their relationship rather sad, as it will always be coloured by Neji's sacrifice. While I think it had more to do with Naruto than Hinata, she was still a factor, and so you can't escape the implication that Neji did what he was 'meant to.' It sets the tone for their whole relationship. Like, he will always be marked. He is marked until he dies. It's why it doesn't matter if Neji ever actually experienced the seal first hand: the fact that it exists is a perpetual boot to his neck, and is a violence unto itself. Did Hinata know how to activate the seal? Can Neji ever forget their power imbalance? Am I supposed to believe that on that battlefield, it never once crossed Neji's mind that he may be called on to protect her with his life?
The idea of someone feeling -- grateful, complacent, loving -- toward someone who owns them, owns their life, is hard to swallow. It will downright choke you once you remember that his life is ultimately forfeit to her. Like, I love Hinata. I don't think she's a bad person, or that she'd ever abuse the power she has over Neji. I genuinely love their relationship ... but they're meant to parallel their fathers, and when Hizashi comes back, he hits with us a classic:
Tumblr media
Hizashi chose to die with love in his heart, and he comes back like 'Oh boy check out this cosmic punishment for forgetting my place.' So, uh, yeah, when Neji pulls the exact same thing about 6 hours later, don't we naturally parallel them and assume that even telling yourself you're doing something out of love doesn't change your crushing sense of servitude? Or, as I once wrote into a fic:
“That’s not freedom, Neji. That’s -- putting pillows in your cage.”
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I really, really wish that Hinata had not been in the line of fire. She and Naruto could have just as easily bonded over Neji's rapidly cooling corpse without her having been in danger. All it does is reinforce the hierarchy between them, which in turn can make it hard to see Neji being nice to her.
If I remove myself from the meta narrative, however, I will say that relationships are complex, even along hierarchical lines, and while Neji doesn't owe Hinata anything, I wouldn't want him to continue burning with resentment. You don't have to be complacent, but perpetual anger is exhausting. Thus, it's good they managed to repair their relationship, and find a little bit of the children they used to be together again.
TL;DR;JUST ANSWER THE QUESTION THAT WAS POSED: I think that a sense of solidarity and commonality, and training, brought them closer together over the years. I believe they are, at their cores, very similar people so they got along well, even if they weren't the very best of friends due to circumstance.
TL;DR;THE WHOLE ESSAY: I love them both and believe they loved each other, but if I think too hard about the meta narrative I want to chew my own leg off like it's stuck in a bear trap ... but don't get me wrong, I love how inherently complicated and deep their relationship is because of it. There's a lot to work with there!

I have a Naruto (Boruto) headcanon, but first I gotta say: I never watched Boruto and I know no sh!t about the show/manga, I just have this very vague idea of Naruto adopting a third child (Kawaki if I am correct) and then turns out that the boy ends up like the main antagonist or something.
Having said that, the headcanon is: Naruto grew up as an orphan, so he knows how f*cked up that sh!t is, and even if he tries his best for Konoha's orphans' wellbeing as Hokage, he wants to do (and feel like he's doing) more. So he talks to Hinata about adoption and she as the good girl she is says yeah why not. And then they adopt this boy and actually changes his life for better and Naruto and Hinata loves him just as much as they love their biological kids and the boy ends up beign just a normal boy and they are a happy family without weird aliens or plot twists or whatever. Just give Naruto a f*cking break and let that ninja world have some peace for a few decades at least.
Yeah, the headcanon was just the happy ending that Naruto deserved and that's it. I'm kind of mad at Boruto's (as a show/manga) existence.

Boruto really loved to point out he's Kawaki's teacher that day 🤣
And was he being sincere or just plain teasing him? (maybe a bit of both lol 😅)

Boruto kinda really sucks, so I'm just gonna
*Kill Orochimaru, undie Neji, make Naruto keep his promises, meaning Neji and the other branch family members don't have curse marks anymore, let Shikadai actually interact with his uncle's and cousin, let Temari interact with her brothers and nephew. All while making my favorite characters suffer in ambiguous drabbles*

I just realized something about the current Arcs in both the Anime and the Manga....
In a sense they kinda Mirror each other
Kawaki and one of the Uzumaki Siblings is on a mission to watch over a Girl
Eida's obsessive crush on Kawaki also kinda mirrors Eiki's crush on Kae
And then there also the fact that Ms. Hana has a split personality. She's literally trying to fight off an Evil persona within her that's trying to take over
Isn't that literally the same thing Boruto is going through right now with Momoshiki? (It's not a split personality but everything else still applies)
And then there's Daemon. Maybe it's just me but I feel like personality wise, Daemon could very EASILY fit well right in with Himawari's class full of rambunctious misfits lol
Kawaki's annoyance of dealing with all those kids like Eiki, Harika and Soul could be very well foreshadowing of the torture he's about to go through with Daemon lol
Oh god you’re right. The Academy episodes are Kawaki’s training arc. Except instead of learning how to fight, he’s practicing the self-restraint not to murder the small, annoying tyke bombs all around him.

The uchiha family, uzumaki family and yamanaka family look so amazing. I really like how sarada is the biggest sasusaku shipper out there, sakura looking gorgeous and sasuke looking at his wife and daughter lovingly, boruto being a naruhina shipper, Naruto giving hinata a gift and hinata looking cute, himawari and kawaki's sibling bond, saiino flirting with each other and inojin having typical reaction of a kid who sees their parents flirting.

You know it's pretty amazing that Himawari works so hard and wants to become more powerful not because she's wild to do revenge... The girl's obvious very thoughtful. So, it seems to me all these years she has been analyzing everything that had happend with her parents and brothers. Yes, right now she know Boruto as Kawaki. Her memories about Kawaki ironically help her to believe in Boruto, they're very unusual circumstances...
My main point here - Himawari, being a traumatized child, who lost her parents and a brother, could turn into a cruel, bloodthirsty kunoichi. But she chose to take her heart warm and her mind cold at the same time! Hima just took all pain of losing her family and has transformed it into strenth to continue to protect every important person in her life

I'm... so Kishi just wrote as straight forwardly as possible that Mitsuki is gay for Boruto. What?
I don't know if I should feel annoyed or not because this is clearly rip off of Sasuke's feelings for Naruto. Naruto is Sasuke's sun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Context, his memories were rewritten so what he feels for Boruto he thinks he feels for Kawaki here. But he actually learned now that Kawaki isn't the person he actually likes. Like you absolutely CAN'T deny this isn't just rip off of NS. Kishi put that symbolism everywhere with NS.

Kishi drew it everywhere like even here, when Sasuke is actually listening to Naruto, he drew Naruto stand beside sun symbol.
Tumblr media
Driving it in again how they are opposites, Naruto is the warmth, the sun. Sasuke is the moon, the lunar glow. Like come on.
Also "I am your sun, no one else"
Tumblr media
Lol.
Also "just thinking about him makes my chest feel tight with pain"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, I am annoyed because who cares about not-Naruto not-Sasuke dynamic. But yeah, other sns who are constantly worried they might have misread the manga and feel insecure, just look at all this crap. Like Kishi knows very well when something is romantic. He ain't writing shit accidentally, and he definitely didn't write Naruto and Sasuke as brothers. End of discussion.
But seriously. First Kishi drew Minato and Kushina with Naruto and Sasuke's tropes, and then he does it even more blatantly with Mitsuki. Just lol. And when you remember Sarada and Mitsuki talked about "being honest about ones own feelings" chapters earlier.
Tumblr media
While Sasuke and Boruto are having their own conversation, and Sasuke gives his headband to Boruto, that he said he would hold onto until he had "settled things between him and Naruto".
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also currently Sasuke is possessed and is looking for Naruto with some other guy (they are enemies, Sasuke is possessed by the enemy). Where is Kishi even going with this?
But he constantly brings up romantic love. And on top of that Boruto still calls Kawaki "bro" even when they are now enemies. Naruto and Sasuke do not call each others brothers in Boruto. So how are they brothers in some people's eyes? Lol.

Did Ch.8 Just Confirm that Mitsuki is in love with Boruto (Warning Major Spoilers)????
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, this is getting really confusing, and I might be wrong.
I am saying that I might be wrong, because these are raw translations, and we all know raw translations and scans leave much to be desired. Also, the website I'm using has truncated some important pages, so the flow of Ch. 8 is really weird.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
However, chapter 8 may have just confirmed that Mistuki is in fact in love with Bortuo.
Similar to the pre-time skip, Mitsuki does not come out right and state his feelings for Boruto. Someone else (a woman) declares that Mitsuki has romantic feelings for Boruto.
This chapter begins with Eida watchining Boruto and Mitsuki's altercation, and Mitsuki learning that Boruto is actually his Sun.
Delta and Kawaki angerly fly off to find the elusive Boruto, and while they are gone, Mituski returns to the estate.
Mitsuki expresses immediate concerns with regard to Eida's feelings about him temporarily poisoning Kawaki.
Mitsuki then admits to Eida that he is basically in love with her. To, which she tells him that his feelings really are null and void, and she's not here to listen to his declarations of love for her, because of course he loves her. He's under the influence of Omnipotence.
Mitsuki then asks Eida why she loves Kawaki. He actually does one better than that, he questions her on why she even likes Kawaki. He's probably asking Eida this, because Kawaki is an asshole who has never been particularly nice to Eida, and has only ever used her as a tool.
Eida says that she knows that it's love, because of the feeling she gets in her chest when she sees Kawaki. Now, I personally have a theory about this:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To Eida's knowledge, there are only 3 people in the entire world who can genuinely love Eida. Those people being Boruto, Kawaki, and Daeman.
Now, Daeman is Eida's brother, and Eida sees Boruto as being too young to be considered romantically. I wonder how she feels now that Boruto is a whole smexy ass man (teenager, but you know what I mean).
Now, we the audience know something that Eida does not know. Neither Sarada nor Sumire are affected by Omnipotence. It is actually for this reason, that I believe Eida to have three potential end game pairings: Boruto, Sarada, or Sumire.
Basically, what I am saying is that I don't believe that Eida loves Kawaki, as much as I believe that she loves the possibility of being authentically loved, even if that love is coming from a toxic asshole who treats her poorly and only keeps her around to further his own means.
I digress, back to the chapter.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, Mitsuki (who usually isn't excessively talkative) begins to share all of his thoughts, feelings and confusions with Eida. He is basically talking about how he thought Kawaki was his Sun, but Kawaki was not who Mitsuki expected him to be. However, he desperately held on to the notion of Kawaki being his Sun even though it didn't match his reality.
After talking to Boruto, he's starting to entertain this idea that he can illuminate himself. He then does a Mitsuki-ism, where he says that he guesses that it doesn't matter, but Eida cuts him off.
THIS IS THE PART THAT'S REALLY INTERESTING:
Eida says "We are both in love, huh?"
Now, at first glance, you might be thinking that Eida is saying that she is in love with Kawaki, and that Mitsuki is in love with her, but she's not saying that! We know she's not saying that, because she firmly declared Mitsuki's feelings for her to be invalid and manufactured twice in the last few pages. However, at the same time, she very firmly and unwaveringly declared her love for Kawaki, so when she rhetorical asks Mitsuk, "We are both in love, huh?" She is referring to Boruto.
She is observing, deciphering, and informing Mitsuki that he is in love with Boruto.
Now, you might be saying that Mitsuki didn't know what love felt like until he met Eida, he even said that a few pages prior. I think he says this:
Because his memories are all messed up because of Omnipotence.
Because he has never trusted his only feelings because he is an artificial human.
Eida is quite frankly unconcerned about both of these concerns of Mitsuki. Eida does not see Mitsuki as incapable of love, because she does not see herself as incapable of love. In this chapter, Mitsuki already established that Eida and he are the same. The same in terms of what is not clear. However, he could be referring to the fact that they are both not 100% human: Eida is a cyborg and Mitsuki is an artificial human. Knowing all of this, Eida points out to Mitsuki very clearly that what he thinks love is (his manufactured infatuation for Eida) is not love. What Mitsuki feels for Boruto with Boruto actually being Mitsuki's sun is real love, and that Mitsuki is in fact IN LOVE with Boruto.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mind blowing Chapter!!! I'm sure some people will miss it, but this is the second time that Kishimoto has canonically confirmed within the span of 20 chapters that Mitsuki has romantic feelings for Boruto.
At first, I thought it was just a crush, but Kishimoto has now taken it a step further to establish that Mitsuki is in love. To anyone who thinks that BorutoxSarada is a slam dunk endgame. You may need to rethink that stance, because this chapter just confirmed that Boruto's final love interest really is not all that cut and dry. Also, here's the thing that I will cover in more detail in another post, based on evidence from Ch.7 and Ch.8, I think Boruto is receptive to being Mitsuki's love interest and (dare I say) potentially even his romantic partner.

They want Sakura to be relevant so bad 😂
This manga is KILLING them
Like really who would’ve thought Sakura would fade into obscurity like that after the (fake) promises Kishimoto made to make her equal to Naruto and Sasuke.
Yet here we are.
Naruto is relevant because he’s the title characters father and the source of his conflict with Kawaki. Now he has passed Kurama to Hima.
Sasuke trained Boruto and you can see how heavily he influenced his style and personality.
Both are sealed
Sakura ISN’T
We ain’t see the pink bitch since Boruto part one.
EVEN INO MADE AN APPEARANCE because (like I’ve been saying) she has more usefulness than Sakura being the one to be the phone line to the most important people of Konoha.
Sakura punches and heals. And she doesn’t even do it as well as Tsunade.
Tumblr media
THEY DIDNT EVEN SHOW HER IN RELATION TO THE DEAD NINJA. Seeing if there are survivors???? Healing them???? Surely if Sakura has surpassed Tsunade she figured out how to heal these kind of wounds or at least have snails out but NOPE
And then the real kicker
Tumblr media
The fact that Hima is getting the spotlight now. You know, THAT *irrelevant* characters daughter?
Remember when they said Himawari was gonna be like her mom (barely having screentime)?
Tumblr media
LOOK AT YOU NOW!
Tumblr media
Maybe it’s time they start sitting this battle out.

So, these two pages from chapter 88 have been causing a lot of confusion due to inconsistent translations, and I've decided to set the record straight as best I can with the knowledge at my disposal.
Starting with the first page, this is where Mitsuki says that he and Eida are similar. In the next panel, he says: 「どうしてカワキを好きなのか。。。その理由が自分で分からない」
This is the first point where fan translations and the official VIZ translation differ. Fans generally seemed to agree that he's saying he doesn't understand why Eida loves Kawaki, while the official version has him say that he doesn't understand why he himself loves Kawaki.
And unfortunately, both of those are understandable translations. The first part of the sentence contains no indication of whether he's talking about himself or Eida; the most literal translation I can do is "Why is Kawaki loved... that reason, [I/you] don't understand."
The reason it's "I/you" is because he uses the word 自分 (jibun), which depending on context, can be equivalent to either "my" or "your." It's not really the same deal as 僕 (boku), Mitsuki's primary first-person indicator, which makes it extremely annoying to translate.
So, which is it? Well, as vague as it is, my best guess is actually based on the dialogue of the second page.
Thankfully, this one is much easier to answer. In the largest panel, Eida says: 「あたし達。。。超恋バナしてるね」
The conversation around this line seemed to be, "she clearly said they're talking about romantic love!" "No, she's just using a slang term akin to 'girl talk,' so she only means that they're bonding!" And guess what? They're both right!
I consulted a friend of mine who speaks Japanese natively on Eida's word choice, and he said that while "girl talk" is closer on the basis of it being a casual/slang term, it's gender-neutral and is more about people "talking about their love."
In other words, "we're both chatting about love" or "we're having a love talk" would probably be the most accurate ways to translate it.
At this point, I want to bring attention to Daemon and Mitsuki's reactions to what Eida just said:
Tumblr media
Daemon is flabbergasted, only able to say "Huh...?" while Mitsuki blushes for a second, then turns away and says "Well... I guess it didn't matter."
What exactly would Daemon be surprised about, if not the implication that Mitsuki loves someone who isn't Eida (and a guy, no less)? Why would he be showing that surprise now, instead of when Mitsuki allegedly announced that he loved Kawaki a few pages ago?
Likewise, while Mitsuki blushing around Eida isn't unusual, he actually spent the vast majority of this conversation remarkably composed. He only blushed for a single panel when he first noticed Eida was in the area, so having it come back after he's basically called out for being in love (real love, as it was already established that they both knew his feelings for Eida are fabricated) is a very deliberate choice.
While Mitsuki doesn't always emote very much, we can assume he was taken a little off-guard here - and again, if he was already confident enough in his love for Kawaki, why this reaction? Why all the talk before now about how he wasn't sure he'd know what romance felt like without Eida's ability?
The only conclusion I can make is that, in the first page, he's not saying "I don't know why I love Kawaki" like in the VIZ translation. It's much more likely that he's saying "I don't know why you love Kawaki." That's the only way that Mitsuki's feelings for Kawaki can be treated as a reveal, to both Daemon and himself.
And given that his love for Kawaki stems from his love for Boruto, due to the memory swap... yeah, if his side of Mitsuboru wasn't canon before, I think it's safe to say that it is now. Now excuse me while I go be extremely sane and normal about this information
