Bakugou is, for all intents and purposes, a massive baby.

God forbid you leave him for ten minutes before he starts wandering around the house looking for you. Mercy on you if you go out to the grocery store and don’t take him. And how dare you even consider get up to get a snack when he's in the bathroom, letting your shared spot get cold.

These things, he can not let go easily.

Naturally, this slips your mind every once in a while because a peaceful life with Bakugou Katsuki doesn't exist. When you forget, he makes it his mission to force you to remember his clingy ass.

Tonight, it would appear to be no different.

It's 02:30 when you snap back to reality, bleary eyes blinking to get your bearings back.

The lamp on the side table blinds you momentarily, there's music coming from the tv- credits, you deduce, from the show Denki had raved to you both about. When you angle your head up, you're met with a firm jawline that lets out a loud snore from the slight disturbance.

Katsuki never was good at staying awake during these things.

Smiling up at him, you're quick to place a tender little kiss on his chin, watching as the corners of his mouth twitches slightly. Gently, you slip out of his arms and cover him with the blanket, using the parted lips releasing the smallest little snores to ensure his slumber. He smacks his lips and turns slightly on his side, as if chasing the warmth you'd taken away, and you click the tv off to keep him in the dark. You shuffle your way into your bedroom to get your own rest; you shiver once you slip under the covers, the fabric cold from the lack of use and lack of Katsuki's body heat.

The minute you do warm up, however, you're out like a light, and you remain so for a few hours.

But then, there's someone at the end of your bed. You feel them, and it wakes you just barely. You shift the blankets higher on your shoulder for protection from whatever your subconsious picks up, and just when you feel normal, something speaks.

“I’m gonna kill you.”

The raspy voice coming from the foot of your bed is more than enough to snap you from your sleep, but it isn’t until you see the massive, bulky frame that your heart sinks and you scream, you scream as loud as you can, immediately scrambling to the corner of your bed.

“Stop screaming, it’s me.”

Your shaking hands immediately shoot to the lamp next to your bed and upon flicking it on, you’re greeted by a sleepy Katsuki, blanket around his shoulders and sleepy scowl on his face, as if you’re the one who just inconvenienced him.

“You freak! What are you doing!” You snap, quickly rubbing your eyes to knock the sleep from them to properly scold. He merely shrugs and smacks his tired lips, indifferent to the previous heart attack he’d given you.

“Left me alone on the couch,” he says, dropping the blanket onto the floor before crawling into bed next to you, casually. “We were snuggling. You abandoned me.”

“You-! I was-! Why-!”

“You’re lucky I love you so much,” he says, burying his face into his pillow and making a grabby hand for you, “c’mere, wanna spoon.”

Your heart, still pounding in your chest, finally lets breaths of air in, your hands trembling as you flick back off the light. You’re still mad, now shaking with fury, and as you roll to have your back facing him, you try to take deep breaths to calm down and not smother the man you somehow chose to love with a pillow.

“Hey,” he grumbles, tugging your sleep shirt. “Come here.”

“I can’t fucking stand you, Katsuki. I don’t even want to be in the same bed as you right now, you scared the fucking shit out of me.”

“Didn’t mean to,” he says softly. “Jus’ wanted to be close to you.”

“And you thought threATENING ME AT THE END OF OUR BED WAS A GOOD WAY TO DO THAT?”

He goes silent, and you almost think he’s given up, and just as you blink your stinging eyes, he suddenly rolls on top of you, knocking the wind out of you at his heaviness.

“Katsuki!” You scold, but it’s shrouded in laughter, an absolute contrast of how you just were talking all of ten seconds ago.

“Now you can’t leave,” he says, cockily. “You wake me again and I will kill you.”

“You woke me up just now! You could’ve easily come to bed like any sane person!”

“….”

“Katsuki!”

“Cant hear you, I’m asleep.”

“KATSUKI!”

My hero - New life and a friend from the past

I’ve always had this idea about what would happened if Izuku was a woman then one thing lead to another then in this quarantine…so now she reincarnated in the medieval era where she was supposed to be a villainess followiing AFO.

In summary, ex villainess + sassy deku + reincarnated deku + pinning kacchan So enjoy!

First chapter.

She never thought that she would end up like this, dead and it’s because of that bus that appeared in front of her. She was walking down the street on her way back from returning a book borrowed from the library.

Just a few hours ago, she was a normal teenager that was studying for final exams.

Books gave her freedom from those boring mathematical problems and sleepless nights of studying. You could go everywhere, be it a romance story or a fantasy one, with knights in shining armor, dragons and princess.

“I know, cliche but a girl can dream..my head hurts, everything hurts like fucking hell.” She mutters.

The feeling stopped.

She is in some kind of a dark corridor that has no end. She rubs her eyes to at least improve her eyesight and perceives a wooden door at the other side.The girl is getting closer and closer. Someone is calling her name but at the same time it doesn’t belong to that girl, very familiar. When she is about to touch the door a middle-aged woman opens the door. She’s a short lady with green hair and a gentle look on her eyes, she likes her already.

“Izuku, breakfast is about to get ready!” She closes the door.

Huh…

She turns on both sides and a recognizes that is a bedroom. Just a single-bed, a wardrobe, a desk with some books, a small dresser that faces the bed along with a huge mirror on the wall. This is not her body, she used to have a simpler appearance, brown hair, dark eyes and an average face. Now she possesses very wild green curled hair and big eyes of the same color along with cute freckles on her cheeks.

That’s when it clicked, that’s why it was so familiar to her, recently she read a book named ‘My hero’ that was dated in the medieval ages but with a little detail, there is magic and it doesn’t matter what type everyone has it but some people have more than others.

The story unfolds around five characters, a knight who possesses amazing speed, a prince who dominates ice and fire, a magician who dominates gravity with the things her hand touches and dragon prince who causes explosions from his hands along with his dragon. They take the path to stop the greatest enemy that dominates the darkness, they called him master, well no one knows what exactly his power was and for that they have to find the greatest hero of all time, All Might. These two had a battle many years ago that left them both badly wounded and both disappeared. This is where this girl enters, Izuku Midoriya, one of her followers who carried evil everywhere on behalf of the master while he sees from the shadows waiting for All Might to disappear from the map and return.

“A little coward if you ask me,” She mutters “the events of me being a villain should not happen yet because I remember that Izuku became evil because of the death of her mother at her village, for not having the ability to protect her and without a father or other familiar in her life she was left alone.” She was running away from a thief and killed him with her powers to protect herself, people marked her for a murder. Someone from the past came back, not a good person… Hisashi Midoriya.

Her father disappeared many years ago, it turned out that he sided with master and returned to take Izuku to the villain league. She learned how to kill, she was very good at summoning powerful creatures and could levitate things with her mind. Sadly she dies by the hands of the master cause she hesitated to kill All might in the last battle, I guess she was not that evil. That was basically the first book with All might defeating the bad big guy with the last bit of magic left in him.

“So, I just have to practice my magic, levitate things...Fuck yes how cool is that?!” She always wanted to have powers and save people who needed help just like the movies with a smile on her face. In her previous life, when she was twelve years old, her family was caught in a fire in our home while she had to go to the store that was nearby. When she returned, the house was almost about to collapse and the firemen did not let her in to save them.

This time it won't be the same if she can do something about it.

Her name is Izuku Midoriya and her new life just began.

Getting out of the bedroom she quickly finds the dining area, breakfast already set, Inko Midoriya, she is her mother, she's the lady from earlier that is humming to a song, she doesn’t know what came over her, she hugged her.

“Why the sudden hug my lovely daughter? not that I’m complaining...did you had any sort of a nightmare?”

“You could say that...I just... I love you mom!” She smiles, she means it.

“Me too, my darling!” She smiled so kindly and squeezed back.

“Let’s eat or the food will turn cold.”

“Indeed...Oh I almost forgot, what would you like for your sixteenth birthday?” She asked so spectantly with big eyes. Hearing no answer she puts her hand on her chin thinking and then clasps her hands together making a loud sound as she smiles. “Right...when you were younger you told me that you wanted to become a hero, you can enroll at the UA guild”

Of course, in this world people have powers, because of that they created guils to train their powers, do jobs and become heroes. Anyone can enter and there is a famous guild nearby called UA so it’s a perfect opportunity to become stronger but…

“What happens if I go there?...I won’t be able to save her.” her worries came out.

Let’s stay out of the plot events.

“I did?”

“Yeah, you used to play with that kid from the dragon tribe...kacchan it think it was his nickname.”

“Uuuh d-dragon tribe?” Izuku asked with a crooked smile and alarmed trying to recall that name somewhere but nothing came.

“His name is Katsuki Bakugou, the crown prince from de dragon tribe here from the Badlands.”

That’s when a few images appeared in Izuku’s mind from a boy and a girl playing in the forest, blurry ones. Then she felt a strange fluttering feeling in her chest.

They knew each other? That was not part of the book.

“I just recall a few things” Izuku bites her bottom lips nervously and looks away.

“Well you were pretty young, like six years old and you haven't seen each other for 10 years.”

“That’s long... I don't think he will recognize me after all these years.”

“He will”

“How confident”

Her mother points Izuku’s neck, more like the thing around her neck. It’s a simple necklace with a little pendant of the same color of her eyes.

“He gave you that necklace, it’s a traditional ornament from his tribe and curiously it’s the color of your eyes.”

“Uh...waaah I’m sooo full so I’ll do the d-dishes!”

The woman just laughs at her daughter’s embarrassment.

Izuku runs to the kitchen trying to hide her red face having a particular thought over and over again.

What are the odds to see him again?

Izuku started to train her magic in the forest, six months ago she could levitate little things like little rocks but nothing more. Now she’s able to move heavy objects or even herself at the same time, she’s a fast learner.

Some attacks have occurred near her village, they have been looking for someone with the same features, blonde hair and a height of about 6 feet or more.

They’re looking for All Might.

In one of her trips through the woods she discovered a small waterfall about five meters high piled high with rocks that climb high into the forest and mountains of the badlands.

Maybe she shouldn't go any farther because according to the book she remembered how close dragons live in the Badlands, which means the dragon prince Bakugou Katsuki could be close.

That's not a good sign.

The book says that he was a very explosive man, she found it funny how it goes pretty well with his powers. He has blonde hair almost going to ash, with crimson red eyes and an almost barbaric way of dressing.

“I mean he is shirtless all the time...not good for my eyes and my maiden heart.” She muttered under her breath.

She touches the water near a big rock and from the looks of it the water is not very deep so it is perfect for swimming.

There are no bathing suits here and definitely she won’t get into the water in mere underwear so in a simple pants and a t-shirt will do. Then out of nowhere a emerald little lizard with wings steps over the rock in front of her making her jump backwards.

“What the fuck?! that’s a freaking dragon!” The creature only observes Izuku with its dilated eyes, his pupils are only a thin line and moves his head from side to side looking for something in her eyes. After a few seconds, apparently, he finds it since his eyes returned to their natural state and approaches her. He just purrs at her and starts to rub its head against her legs.

“What a cute baby dragon...I guess we are friends now!” She scratches his back.

A loud explosion from above echoes.

“Oi! where are you, you little lizard!” the dragon hides behind her like playing hide and seek.

That’s a male voice, she cringed “Wait a damn minute...I’m not your hiding spot!” She whispered tensing up while getting up, alert.

A big shadow lingers above her head, more like in the sky and she looks up. It’s a big red dragon with a person on its back, She can’t distinguish who might be that man and she hears another explosion. The man jumps, he lands on the ground with a strong boom leaving a leaving a hole from his landing and she opens her eyes wide, waiting any way to escape.

Again, not a good sign.

“What do I do?! Oh fuck he might think that I stole him” her thoughts screamed in her head.

Neither of them take their eyes off each other. As he approached Izuku, every muscle and every fiber of his body appeared to strain to force out his next movement ready for any possible fight.

“He has the most beautiful crimson eyes…” her thoughts betrayed her.

Katsuki held up his hands, his palms crackling. She immediately started to feel the presence of things around her in case she needed to fight but she preferred not to so she held her arms in sing of surrender.

“Where's Kaia ..? depending on what you say ... you’ll live.” he growls.

The cracks from his palms stopped.

Curious, Izuku roams his face with her eyes to notice that he is looking at the necklace gaping with with mouth.

“...Deku?” the blond man asks with a deep voice.

When she was about to open her mouth the little bastard started to roam all over her body like some monkey, now she really looks life she stole him.

Run.

And boy she ran.

While running Izuku turns to look back and all she sees it’s a demon.

Scary.

“Oi stop it! Fuck!”

“Be gone you demon!” She yells and then she hears a loud explosion.

He caught her.

They rolled to the ground and falling together down the hill. Izuka found herself on her back, Katsuki above her, with his hands holding down her wrists. Both of them gasping, taking in deep drags of air, drags that smelled of ash, nitroglycerin, mint, a smell of earth and skin. Their chests raising and falling. Izuku could feel the power in his thighs against her holding her in place. Katsuki was gritting his teeth, as if he were in a battle. A moment that felt like hours, Katsuki and Izuku stared at each other trying to memorize their features afraid as if any movement would cause someone to disappear from their field of vision. Katsuki decided to break the silence and smirks.

“I know it’s you shitty Deku…I would recognize that necklace anywhere.”

“...K-kacchan?”

“You’ve changed.”

“Well it’s been 10 years, of course I’ve changed ... you’ve changed too.” Izuku replies nervous and looks to the side.”Um...I didn’t steal him.”

“Hah?!”

Izuku gathers courage to look up into his eyes and answers almost breathlessly.”The baby dragon.”

The moment she mentions her little friend, somehow the dragon finds its way between the two of them breaking the spell. Katsuki grumbles and stands up looking at the dragon in Izuku’s lap.

“Just for the record, Kaia is a female.”

Izuku looks at the dragon confused and pouts. “He's a she?!”. Katsuki chuckles and approaches her.

“It’s your first time seeing one isn’t?” He reaches out his hand to Izuka and she takes his hand gladly standing in front of him.

“Huh...yeah… I mean I’ve never been in your tribe.” She scratches her cheek with her index finger nervously and Katsuki tenses up. “How come she’s here and not...in your tribe.”

“Lately they’ve been robbing the young ones in order to dominate them better and use them to search for …”

“All Might...he came back.”

“There has been circulating rumors that he has returned saving towns, but he disappears the moment he finishes the job.” Katsuki glanced back up the hill from where they fell. “Let’s go back.”

Izuka started to climb back but katsuki stopped her grabbing her hand and held her against his chest.

“Put your arms around my neck.”

Izuku hesitantly hugs his neck looking up.

“...Kacchan no.”

“Kacchan yes.” He said imitating her with a squeaky voice and kicks the ground with a loud boom.

“Noooooo!” She cried out with being suspended in the air and notices that Kaia is flying at her side following them towards the red dragon. There was a small crack and then landed on the dragon. They sat with Izuku in front of katsuki, he grabs the pointy spikes on the dragon's head and she could feel a strong arm surrounding her waist.

“Wow wow wow wow wow Where are going?! This is not my way back home.”

“To the Dragon Tribe...ppf obviously.” He snorts as a matter of fact.

“What?!”

After 15 minutes they landed on a very lively town, full with a lot of dragon with different colors and sizes. A very excited Izuku livitates herself off the dragon leaving a very amused Katsuki with his extended hand towards a empty spot. It brings to him a smirk to his lips but it fades just as quickly as it appears.

“Is this the famous Izuku of the forest?” The voice is a deep rumble, emerging from somewhere low in the dragon's throat, he shifts into a man with red hair and eyes. “Names Eijiro Kirishima.” He said while pointing himself with his thumb.

Amazing. That’s all she can think.

“Um Izuku Midoriya...a pleasure.”

“Fuck off shitty hair!” Katsuki snaps.

“Hey I’m a man for only one woman.” Kirishima from the corner of his eye spots a woman with pink skin walking by. “Ashido wait up!... nice meeting you Midoriya.” He said and runs towards the woman.

Katsuki just grunts a reply and faces Izuku.

”Didn’t knew you could levitate yourself.”

Izuku turns on her heels to look around and glances sideways smirking towards katsuki to say. “There’s a lot of thing you don’t know about me…I can’t for long distances though,been practicing in the forest on that.”

The moment the start walking they hear a lot of screams in the distance.

They're under attack.

BNHA Rewatch Season 1 Episode 12 “All Might”

Now to the climax for S1! I’m pretty sure this is the episode (or rather the moment) that made BNHA. The big scene from S1 that showed the world It was Here and the potential it had for the future.

All Might makes his dramatic entrance. I do love how much this series puts an emphasis on the importance, not just of physically saving people, but giving them reassurance that everything’s gonna be ok. The way he carries Aizawa here is very sweet (changed a bit from the manga, where it’s a little less delicate).

Tomura makes this speech that All Might confirms is just him bullshitting but is actually a really interesting notion. “Why do some people decide that some violence is heroic and others are villainous” is a line that pops into my head a lot when I’m watching other franchises. The whole “Protagonist centered morality” thing. It doesn’t really apply to BNHA that much, but there’s a lot of other narratives out there that could use a reality check in that regard.

This shot looks like a selfie. Deku is the worst at keeping a secret. Carolina is one of all Might’s attacks i really like, because it’s kind of creative and unique. I love the little setup of the fight against Nomu - how they lay out the conditions, and All Might still works within them to pull out a win anyway. That’s BNHA for ya.

Deku figuring out that All Might needs help...first time around I was waiting for Deku to do something appropriately climactic for the end of the season, and disappointed he didn’t get to.

But what we do get is pretty striking. On the one hand, we see Deku’s strengths as a character, the inability to ignore someone in need, that burning desire to help that he tries to reason himself out of. On the other hand, he charges in with no plan, and thinks mostly about how much he still needs All Might to teach him, thinking more of his own needs than his mentor’s...this isn’t the moment for him to save his mentor.

And look who’s pulling off his first Save to Win! Congratulations Kacchan, you did your first good deed in the entire series! While being a grump about it but still, thank you for saving Deku.

And also being badass AF. Kacchan, Shoto and Kiri making their dramatic entrances. Shoto is just so good at ice stuff guys. Bakugou being smart and outwitting Kurogiri. They’re just too cool for school. (also this angle makes Kacchan look like he has breasts. He’s oddly androgynous sometimes).

Tomura, of course, is not an idiot and recognizes this, telling Nomu to take Bakugou out so they can go home. I notice Todoroki gets this really panicked look on his face when they make that announcement (probably because Nomu is escaping his ice) but in my head it’s because he’s worried for Bakugo. Small Todobaku sideship here, ngl.

And Tomura’s full speech on heroes and violence comes in. All Might seems to indicate he’s just trying this philosophy out for size; while I still do remember this speech and find it fascinating in the context of other stories, for Tomura it’s obviously not what he thinks. He doesn’t care. He’s a villain without an ideology. Which is a big part of the diff between him and Stain, which Deku notices. There’s a lot to unpack with Tomura now, isn’t there, the light of the most recent arc? I guess I’ll get to that when I get to it.

YSR is swelling. All Might is going to go beyond. It’s time. We’re here. Thinking about it, this fight feels like the Camino Ward fight in a slightly smaller format. (the whole arc is basically just Baby’s first Camino). There are similar lines, but one bit that sticks out to me is that All Might begins this fight thinking about how he’s a symbol, and in the Camino Fight thinks “I’m not doing this because I’m a symbol” or something like that. Character growth!

And now the bit that launched a thousand memes. For some reason, every YSR Goes with Everything Vid I see uses this specific scene, quotes from it, inserted with whatever it’s being paired with. I guess this is the moment everyone associates with YSR, even though it’s in a ton of episodes. But yes, this particular scene does feel like it captures the whole YSR spirit quite well.

“Those aren’t just random punches either. They’re targeted. And everyone single one of them...is more than 100% of his power!” “You may have heard these words before, but I’ll so you what they really mean. Go beyond...plus ultraaaaaaaaa!!” (It’s basically the same ideas in the sub, but those are the specific words they used in the dub. They’ve become as much of a meme as YSR itself.)

And it’s so interesting as a way to beat the villain. It’s kind of both outwitting him and out-powering him. Like the appeal of FMA & DBZ combined.

Basically this episode is amazing. I think I kind of breezed through the whole USJ arc in a day the first time, so it didn’t stick out to me. But on a rewatch it’s a real highly. Very focused on it’s one subject and absolutely astounding to watch and hear. YSR + Fight is always a win. This one always puts a smile on my face.

Save to win. Win to save. Katsuki saving Deku is such a quiet moment here, you don’t really notice it, but don’t think I didn’t notice that the first time Bakugou ever saved anyone in the series, it happened to be Deku (and vice versa). The important thing to remember here is that Deku is the one who most consistently brings out the best in Bakugou, as well as the worst.

Deku’s little yell of “Kacchan” is just a small preview of the Training camp Arc-era panic. Dude’s protective. And also loves taking any opportunity he can to gush as well. (And Bakugou refuses to be complimented for something he didn’t do. I kinda admire him too for that) Speaking of the training camp arc, I get some of those “responsible for All Might’s end” vibes from him here.

Holy crap Bakugou is thin. Curvier than half the girls. Anyway, Deku observing him as always.

Okay, that scrolling scene with the kids…that’s just cheap. They aren’t even animated.

It says something like “Preserve water” or “Water is important” on the wall behind the tap.

That “stand out in the hallways with those buckets” is pretty typical for an anime. I wonder whether any real Japanese person has done that, though?

Oh yeah. I think I was initially attracted to this due to the fact it looks a lot like Detective Conan when you see Satoru negotiating the future by changing his past.

I think I had to learn what a “patsy” meant for this scene, but a patsy is just a substitute, specifically in this case for collateral damage.

Does that mean Kenya lived (or lives) in a big house?

Wait – wait? How did Gaku know how Kayo was safe…unless he was the murderer? I didn’t question that the first time, but this just makes the ending even worse. This dude’s already proved he doesn’t act on compulsion like Satoru does, so that adds to it.

That joke about Satoru being 29 does get a bit worn out when it gets used here…

Mt. Hakodate…I’d heard of it from Touken Ranbu. It’s a good place for low level swords, IIRC.

Akemi’s (Kayo’s mother’s) eyes were so off model before the shovel scene, it made it hard to take Akemi seriously.

It’s weird how much Gaku looks like he should be Satoru’s dad.

Akemi was “Takashima” before she was “Hinazuki”, and her partner’s name at the time of her divorce was Kazuo.

CGI car…again. Geez.

I think the kanji for “closure” mean the ending curtain, like that of a play, but I can’t quite remember their literal meaning…

Gaku’s talking about his experiences somehow reminds me of a chat I had with Elucida on the Boueibu chat. Probably because the instigator of the chat had to apologise…

Holy plays, Batman! Romeo and Juliet for an 11 year old is pretty far fetched considering I only read it when I was…um…16 or 17. I haven’t even read King Lear yet so consider me out of this. (Shucks...even though I used to be an avid reader, I’m only ordinary now, huh?)

LOL. In the end, Kenya really is a little kid, getting all offended about hideouts, haha.

I thought the “getting rid of someone’s alone time is a good thing” sentence was a bit weird until I realised what context Hiromi used it in.

“On the outs”? I didn’t know what that meant until I checked it up. Well, considering I make my own phrases up a lot and I tend to omit small words in the vein of “wut dis?”, maybe I’m just too slang for the subbers.

CGI bus? Man, you ruined the solemn mood a bit, Mr Bus.

See? These CGI cars (and truck) are why I have gripes with CGI transport. It sticks out too much. However, for something like Ajin (which can only be found in CGI form), I don’t mind it so long as everything else about it is good. Speaking of which, I still have yet to see Ajin (as of the point of typing).

“…spirit and drive.” – Because the camera focussed on Gaku’s hands just then, I had to LOL in my head a little.

Manabu = Gaku by virtue of alternate character reading. Isn’t kanji great? (sarcastic)

The Spider’s Thread, as told by Ryunosuke Akutagawa. Bungou taught me about it, but I’m not sure the Bungou instance is the one I first met it in.

This fourth wall breaking…it’s somewhat disturbing, but that’s the mood the staff were going for. Very effective.

I’ve always wondered why the “Boku” in the titlecard had a different font. Maybe the staff just didn’t have a “boku” in the font they’d written the title in…

I guess it must be my warped perception of beauty due to bishonen, but when Satoru is lying on the bed with slightly sallow cheeks, he almost looks…beautiful. (That’s a scary thought, isn’t it?)

“Future”…such a powerful name, since it happens to be the name of the baby, too.

Imagine if Kayo and Yuri Katsuki’s (Yuri!!! on Ice) backstories were stitched together.

A gingko leaf. They have a very distinctive shape…(Reminds me of Fusae Campbell from Detective Conan.)

Gaku is just represented by a black silhouette in some frames. Basically, you could call it another Detective Conan reference of sorts.

The problem with the ending that I have, if you don’t know already, is that it suddenly makes you realise that Satoru would either die or have planned/have some caveat to get out of/around a potential death. Unfortunately, they don’t show you when he’s made those plans, thus being deceptive by omission if they were even made.

By the laws of ordinary protagonist writing…I give you the ending. The ending that dissatisfied me so much, it definitely left SGRS first for 2016.

They never explained how the rail was pulled open either, come to think of it.

If you observe the left flag when Yotaro stops at the front of the theatre, you can see the characters for “Amakentei” (rain-bamboo-stand, or something like it). That’s Kappei Yamaguchi’s character…Update: Must’ve been a mistake on my part. Amaken is a critic, but not a rakugoka himself.

Yotaro’s still got all the mannerisms of a gangster, LOL. (Including interrogation technique.)

There’s a sign in the back of Yotaro when he talks to Yakumo for the first time. It says “Sumi” (top – bottom) “Sushi” (L – R).

Yotaro uses the word “tanomu”, which is a respectful way of saying “I beg of you”. Very respectful. The most polite kind of respectful.

Mukojima? Huh? I guess that’s a deliberate bungling of Konnichiwa? (Update: Nope.) However, I’m still a noob to rakugo myself, despite having created the wiki to spread some Yakumo love.

Note for later: Shinigami has a distinctive “Ajaraka mokuren kyuraisu tegeretsuno pa!” in it.

What’s the old man writing?

It’s a transformation of sorts, from Yota being nervous to showing off what he’s got. That’s what makes SGRS so powerful.

I was pondering this since the start of the performance, but Yota’s shark-like teeth make him a very distinctive character. Then again, there’s always that one cue or other to tell you that a certain character is in the house.

Should a woman only have her beauty? I never believed it and that’s what I set out to prove in my stories, but…social mores were different back then, so I can’t speak for Konatsu.

Oh! I completely forgot about this guy (Mangetsu) until he came back in ep 14.

Oh? Were you wondering what those “notes for later” were for? The wiki, naturally. SGRS’s only presence is me most days, so I’d better keep it up to date.

This show never fails to make me laugh, even if the laughter gets more subdued the second time.

Apparently people get sento and onsen confused a lot. Sento are normally cheaper smaller establishments compared to onsen, as far as I know.

Why is there a cat in the room?!

The “Hatsu” in Hatsutaro means “beginning”, while the “Kiku” in Kikuhiko is a chrysanthemum, so…yeah. Take it as you will.

“…your first time?” (laughs behind back) No wonder Haruko Kumota was a BL mangaka before she did SGRS.

Even without the volume, the visual language can tell you Kiku’s doing something wrong. That’s the power of this show.

“Akanbou” is a Japanese word for baby, as you may have guessed. However, people seem to use the word “aka-chan” more these days. Thus, another guess tells you that “shiro” is white and “ao” is blue. Right again.

You can almost hear the voices even with only subs! Amazing!

Fish cake. Technically called kamaboko, but “fish cake” is the translation for it so I guess I shouldn’t be such a weeb.

The texture on the bricks of the restaurant are hyperrealistic…I like it. Better than that messed up CGI you get on most cars in anime these days.

As I’ve noted on the wiki, the pun about the samurai involves the word samui (cold). Therefore the original pun would’ve been “now you die out here in the cold, samurai”, but if you’re going for lame jokes that work seamlessly into the rakugo, then…the samu-die joke pretty much does its job.

There was the word “open” twice in one sentence…subbers, you need to proofread sometimes.

The “treasure sacks” pun is on kintama…welp, I won’t explain it, but “family jewels” apparently works just as well.

If Mukojima is a place, then why were people saying it in ep 1?

LOL, Matsuda. Going “I won’t have anything to do with this” is bound to get you in trouble nonetheless.

Yakumo’s heart is so clearly not into it. You can tell from the body language.

I’m here because I fell out of love with Hibari a while back and I need to give Akira Amano another chance. Also, Lane Brick…maybe.

Wait. It’s a Mukuro! With glasses! That foreshadows the pain I’m gonna be in for.

Welp, considering I read the manga this was adapted from not too long ago (as of the time of watching this), it’s pretty faithful. Even if it does look visually pretty, I did come up with a story like this once but it never took off when it came to writing the story. Considering it also bears some similarity to One Wish They Never Wanted, it’ll never take off now.

Finally(!) Something to laugh at. Reborn injoke.

…Unfortunately, with the faithfulness of the manga comes the pervasive problem – I thought Eldlive was a bit subpar. I could see all the right tropes were there to make a hit, but I couldn’t see any real talent showing through, as if Amano’s resigned herself to doing only shonen because Reborn succeeded. It was Hibari that taught me you can have a cute bird sidekick instead of a monster designed from scratch, so why can’t Eldlive do that too?

Drew (the voice) is getting annoying already. Shaddap!

…another “unfortunately” is that Lane Brick isn’t too pretty compared to how I like my bishonen, but YMMV on that.

I didn’t check it when I read the manga…but Jean Renoir.

Great. (sarcastic) Bungou humour, to boot! That wasn’t in the original…and it’s just grim, too.

These mammary jokes aren’t doing it for me either, although they were in the original.

Prince of Stride was a new experience for me, as I thought I needed to add “sport anime” to my repetoire at the time. Unfortunately, I still haven’t gotten past my biases against sport anime even after finishing this…

Welp, I take back what I’ve said about OPs in the first episode. If it’s a good OP, it helps to set the norm.

CGI basketball. One of the weirdest things on the list of “things given CGI form in anime” to date, because it’s mostly cars.

Sad life. When people in a rejected club see that twist coming, it’s like a 4th wall break…kinda sorta.

Did I ever mention that this show is motivational? It’s really good for that, and colourful so it’s good for desktop wallpapers. (Also, it has a summer theme to it, so while I swelter, lemme just watch a show about running…and sweating…bad idea? I guess so. (sarcastic) However, there isn’t any better season to watch it in. Sweat – or imagined sweat – isn’t good any season of the year, so might as well watch it while I still have time.)
