Lost Secret Santa
Hi! I thought it would be fun to do a Lost Secret Santa this year, since it seems like the community is big enough that an event like this would work!
This will be a pretty basic fandom Secret Santa gift exchange. You will be assigned a giftee that you can anonymously get to know through asks and make them a gift to be echanged around Christmastime.
Gifts can be really any kind of fandom content you like to make. Some ideas of what that could be include (but are not limited to): fanfic, fanart, edits/gifsets, fan video, a playlist, meta/analysis of a certain character/ship/episode/scene etc., a handmade item (only if the giftee is comfortable giving you an address you can send it to), poetry, icons/profile pics/banners, or themes!
So basically the plan for Lost Secret Santa is you have until November 20th to sign up, and I will be anonymously assigning you a giftee on the weekend of November 25th.
When you sign up there are spaces for you to list what characters or ships you want to receive a gift for, and what characters or ships you are okay making something for, as well as what kind of fandom content
You can list specific ships/characters or general things for either (for example: Kate Austen, Jack x Kate; or any m/m ship, any female character, any canon ship, any platonic friendship, etc.) please be specific and list any character or ship you really don't want to make something for so that I don't assign you a giftee that you won't enjoy making a gift for, however, try to give more than one answer, especially if it's a less major character or rarepair ship with a smaller fanbase.
I will share your preference for characters/ships and type of content you want to receive with only your gifter, and will not share which characters you will/won't create for with anyone.
Once you have been assigned your giftee you will have a month to send them messages on anon so that you can get to know them better and make a gift that they will like!
Gifts will ideally be posted on December 24th, 25th, or 26th, but can be posted any time up until December 31st.
Tag your gifts with #lostsecretsanta2023 so that I can reblog them
If you sign up but have to drop out at any time, I totally understand but please let me know as early as possible so that I can figure out something for your giftee so that everyone gets something.
I'm not sure how many people will be interested in doing this but I hope it will be fun
Here's the link to the form you can use to sign up
Send me an ask if you have any questions at all about how it will work
(please boost this if you plan on participating or have a lost-centric blog so that more people can see it)
tagging some lost mutuals and people who expressed interest under the cut (as always if you don't want me to tag you in things please let me know)

book recs!! anything witchy will do!
Oooh I love doing book recs, OKAY, witchy-themed books:
Nettle and Bone by T. Kingfisher - I finished this recently and it's a really lovely dark fairy tale style story, in which a princess seeks out magical help to kill the prince that's been abusing her sister.
The Scholomance trilogy by Naomi Novik - a fantastic trilogy set in a very dark, twisted magic school, following Galadriel 'El' Higgins as she tries her resist her destiny to become an evil sorceress.
Sorceror to the Crown by Zen Cho - a regency set fantasy following Zacharias Wythe, the first Black Sorceror Royal, who is trying to discover why Britain's magic stocks are drying up. A really fun read with a really interesting take on the fairy realm.
Literally anything by Diana Wynne Jones but for particular witch feels Witch Week is great - it's middle grade but still really fun to read as an adult, set in a boarding school where one of the students has been anoymously accused of being a witch in a world where witchcraft is illegal.
Wicked Like a Wildfire by Lana Popovic - Iris and her sister Malina are descended from a family of witches taught to keep their powers a secret and never to fall in love. But when their mother's attacked, they set out to find the truth and discover that there's a curse haunting their family.
Shades of Milk and Honey by Marie Robinette Kowal - another regency set one, that's very Jane Austen with magical powers, where manipulation of glamour is an essential accomplishment for young ladies.
A Madness of Angels by Kate Griffin - an urban fantasy following sorceror Matthew Swift who finds himself resurrected from the dead after being murdered three years ago. He's got two questions: who killed him? And who brought him back?
Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett - an absolutely stellar book, in which the witches Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat find meddling in royal affairs isn't that easy ...
The Witch Trade by Michael Molloy - I read this when I was eleven or twelve and it has etched itself into my pyche, and is such a fun, exciting middle grade adventure.
The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy - I don't care how old you are, if you haven't read this you should. Mildred Hubble's misadventures at Miss Cackle's Academy of Witches are just iconic.
Poison by Chris Wooding - this isn't about a witch, exactly, but it has very witchy, fairy tale vibes and I adore it so I'm going to include it. It follows a young woman called Poison who sets out to reclaim her sister from the fairies after she's stolen and replaced with a changeling, but finds a much bigger adventure waiting for her.
Okay, that's a lot of witchy books so I will stop there before this gets too unwieldy but I highly recommend all of these!!

I think by default it might be Betty and Veronica (which I'm not knocking), but was having a debate about iconic long running love triangles in comic books and it's hard to come up with examples?
So they’re the most prominent love triangle in comics, in large part because Archie and its spin-offs are arguably the longest running romance comics in the medium.
Tumblr media
If we confine ourselves to superhero comics - I know that there are other love triangles in indie comics like Love & Rockets or Scott Pilgrim, but I’m going with the genre I know the most examples from - there are a plethora of love triangles, because they’re a reliable engine for drama and nicely balance romance with the required amount of action due to all the fights they start.
Tumblr media
So let’s start with Marvel. Fantastic Four was absolutely chocka with love triangles despite having only one woman on the team. As the team’s professional teen heartthrob, Johnny was the frequent instigator of these, due to his unerring talent for falling into love and bed with the most drama-loving women imaginable. He brought Crystal into the FF’s orbit, and since she basically cannot live without drama, she got into love triangles with Johnny and Quicksilver, Quicksilver and their realtor, and even made a move on Mr. Fantastic (a man I would argue with negative sexual chemistry) right after Sue gave birth! For her own part, Sue has gotten into quite a few love triangles of her own - both with Romance Novel Bad Boy Namor and T’challa and even sometimes with Doctor Doom, because she’s apparently catnip to Marvel royalty.
Tumblr media
Over in X-Men, there are three main canon love triangles that were particularly prominent and long-running: the Scott/Jean/Logan mess that eventually culminated in a throuple because everyone got tired of the ship wars, the Jean/Scott/Emma triangle that provided much of the driving force behind Grant Morrison’s New X-Men and eventually spun off to the Scott/Namor/Emma love triangle, because Imperius Rex has a type and it’s attached blondes with mental powers), and the Rogue/Gambit/Magneto dilemma (itself growing out of the Gambit/Rogue/Belladonna love triangle) that was the major romantic plot of the 90s and early 2000s. Secondary or shorter love triangles included Scott/Alex/Maddie during the Claremont run, Polaris/Alex/Nurse Annie in the Chuck Austen run, Polaris/Alex/Bobby back in the Silver Age before Bobby came out of the closet, Kurt/Meggan/Brian from Excalibur, etc. Somewhat subtextual trios that became popular among queer fans include Pyro/Bobby/Northstar, Storm/Yukio/Callisto (because Ororo has a type and that type is knives), and Rachel/Ilyana/Kitty (which intersected with the Dani/Xi’an/Rahne triangle, because Kate Pryde is a menace to sapphics, although the former did resolve when Rachel started a serious relationship with Betsy).
I’m not as much a DC guy, but even I know that Dick Grayson has nothing but love triangles.

a Recommendation - 19 Top Films to Watch on Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day isn’t always about a box of chocolate or couple photos bombarding your feed all day; sometimes, it’s about snuggling under the covers with either your loved ones or love one, watching a comfort movie that makes you feel giddy both in the inside and outside.
Here is a (very long) list, categorized from cliche to not-really-romance-but-romance, of the best rom-com films you could watch on Valentine’s Day:
Tumblr media
Well-Known But Not Overrated:  from the 00s to the 20s - here are all the romcoms you may or may not have heard.
1. Set It Up (2018) Starring Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell, alongside Lucy Liu and Taye Diggs, Set It Up is a fun New York-based romantic comedy on the spiral of two overworked assistants setting up their bosses.
Tumblr media
2. Definitely, Maybe (2008)  Nothing weirder than hearing about your parents having a life before you: Definitely, Maybe is a tale of three romantic stories and one mother mystery.
3. Love, Rosie (2014) Starring two rom-com sweethearts Lily Collins and Sam Claflin, Love Rosie is the original formulaic film of the ultimate childhood best friends to lovers + right person, wrong time trope.
4. Emma (2019)  With the perfect combination of wit, set, cast, and story, Emma is the perfect love letter to Jane Austen and fans of Regency Romance.
5. The Half of It (2019)  Small town and big romance: The Half of It is a quiet yet impactful film on coming-of-age, friendships, and high school crushes.
Tumblr media
6. Miss Congeniality (2000)  A perfect mixture of comedy and romance, Miss Congeniality will win your heart with the classic undercover cop story.
7. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018) Carrying the charm and chemistry of a teenage rom-com, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before takes an overused trope of fake relationships and makes it its own, with an unforgettable classic high school love tale.
8. The Vow (2012)  Changing the entire course of two people’s lives in one accident, The Vow, based on a true story, is a heartbreaking film on love and grief.
A Bit More Than Boy Meets Girl  not so much of romance as connecting with friends or yourself; these movies are perfect for movie nights with friends or if simply you’re not in the mood for a classic rom-com:
9. Laggies (2014)  Starring Kiera Knightly, Sam Rockwell, and Chloe Grace Moretz, Laggies is a tale not only of unexpected love but the reality of feeling like lagged in your 20s.
Tumblr media
10. The Other Woman (2014)  The Other Woman is about the other woman, starring the golden comedy trio Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Kate Upton, as they set up for the perfect revenge.
11. Paper Towns (2015)  In the classic John Green tale of small-town high school and daydreaming for the manic pixie girl, Paper Towns is a tale of friendship and growing up, with a bittersweet ending that feels more real than the classic Disney happily ever after.
Tumblr media
12. The Way Way Back (2013)  With a ridiculously talented cast, The Way Way Back is a classic comedic and bittersweet summer beach film of love, parenthood, and friendships, all while coming of age in a world that doesn’t always go your way.
13. The Edge of Seventeen (2016)  Hilarious but uncomfortably too true to every teenager at one point, is a perfect film for both depth and comedy, dealing in the themes of betrayal, love, friendship, teenage angst, and loss.
Classics to Re-Binge - or Finally Get Around To Watching It  from the 90s to the 10s, created in the classic formula of wit, charm, iconic-ness, and of course: romance and comedy
14. How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003)  Perhaps one of the most famous rom-com of the 21st century, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is exactly as the title suggests; even in the two decades since its release, the film remains fresh, original, and hilariously sharp in the rom-com film department.
Tumblr media
15. The Proposal (2009)  In the ultimate fake relationship trope, The Proposal is a classic New York-to-small-town romance, unforgettably delivered by Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.
16. 13 Going on 30 (2004)  13 Going on 30 achieves every 13-year-old girl’s dream; the film centralizes around the youthful and comedic 13-year-old-stuck-in-30-year-old body tale with just the perfect amount of true romance.
Tumblr media
17. Crazy Rich Asians (2018) Heartwarming and a feast to the eyes of cinematography, costumes, and score, Crazy Rich Asians is the story of Rachel Chu entering the world of crazy rich Asians, and her fight for her true love.
18. 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)  In the perfect combination of romance and comedy, 10 Things I Hate About You is a classic in fake-relationship-turned-true-love, starring both the brilliant Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger.
and of course: 19. Valentine’s Day (2010)  Starring the biggest names of rom-com from Julia Roberts to Anne Hatheway to Jennifer Garner, Valentine’s Day is a film of multiple love stories all interconnected, set in no other date but Valentine’s Day.

Jenn's Spooky films playlist lol I will try to categorize by gore level and spooky level. one ghost👻 means minor and five ghosts👻👻👻👻👻 means hella extra (watch at your own risk)I mean this in general as I don't scare easy anymore but some may feel it more so I am rating this very carefully with that in mind. lol one pumpkin🎃 means light gore, blood, or violent themes and five pumpkins🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃 is hella gore, blood, and violent themes. (not for the light stomachs but also if you ain't into heavy things like that)
Light autumn films (includes some violence or light sexual themes or in general with neither and can be a nice family watch)
-The Invisible (2007) 👻🎃{one of my absolute favorites and I talked about this film way back then but it has a dark atmosphere to it and deals with concepts of death and the beauty of it. very autumn-ish and a nice night in film. Has slight violence and blood as well.}
-Blood and Chocolate (2007)👻🎃{also a favorite in the romance fantasy side with some light blood and gore because it is wolves and some light nudity)
-When Harry Met Sally (1989) {not scary at all just light sex themes here and there but an autumn favorite because of the aesthetic and New York scenery. I love it.}
-The Lake House (2006) {also not scary and more romantic but I love this one with Sandra Bullock and my homie Keanu Reeves. It is about two people living in the same place at different times as like multiverses. Think the movie Ghost (1990)but Lake House version lol the aesthetics slaps for autumn too}
-Kate & Leopold (2001) {romantic film and also a must-see for the season. Two people from different times falling in love with each other with the city backdrop and a lot of light Jane Austen vibes}
-SCOOBY-DOO ON ZOMBIE ISLAND (1998)👻{My favorite film of the Scooby series as a kid and even now after rewatching it. lol A must watch.)
-SCOOBY-DOO! AND THE WITCH'S GHOST (1999)👻 {Gotta love the iconic rock band: THE HEX GIRLS. lol The film is also good}
-SCOOBY-DOO AND THE CYBER CHASE (2001) 👻
-SCOOBY-DOO! AND THE LEGEND OF THE VAMPIRE (2003) 👻
-Hubie Halloween (2020)👻🎃
-Goosebumps (2015)👻🎃Loved it and is a fun family film.
-Mom's Got A Date With A Vampire (2000)
-Hocus Pocus (1993 and 2022)👻🎃
-Halloweentown (1998, 2001, 2004, and 2006) 👻🎃
-Twitches (2005) and Twitches Too (2007)
-Ghostbusters(2016) 👻🎃
-The Haunted Mansion (2003) 👻(one of my all time favorites that I got the DVD back then I replayed it so many times and sang the ost so much lol it is light and just spooky in a light way it still goes hard today lol I still have to watch the 2023 one but I bet it is just as good.)
TV SHOWS OR MINI SERIES
-Tales From The Crypt (1989) 👻👻🎃🎃🎃{I watched the hell out of this show before I would go to sleep because my dad would let me and sometimes he would watch it with me lol I love it and the skeleton homie that always freaked me out in the intro lmaoo it is multiple different scary stories and they can differ in themes, spook level, and gore but for the most part they are in the middle with levels of extremity)
-ROSE RED (2002) 👻👻👻🎃🎃 {A STEPHEN KING FAVORITE IN MY HOUSEHOLD. My uncle introduced me to King's work when I visited him in Mexico when I was still a kid lol he had a a lot of spooky VHS tapes and told me to watch this mini-series and I was hooked. Shout out to my tio Luis. lol He was the one who also gave me the name Pollita back then haha I was a Golden Chicken to him haha but he is my fave uncle. Homie also got me my first Avril Lavigne album LET GO. So, yeah he earns a shout-out and he has my respect. lol)
-The Simpsons Tree House of Horror (2005-2007)👻👻🎃🎃 {There are three collections from three years and they can be watched even in prime lol I love the hell out of the creepy factor from the Tree House of Horror series. I always got freaked out by the characters and the morals of each story and episode lol A must watch}
-The Dead Zone (2002-2007)👻🎃(A show I would watch so much as well about a homie who wakes up from a coma to help people from the other side by helping solve their cases.)
-True Blood (2008-2014) 👻🎃🎃🎃🎃(Love it to this day lol but that ending was not my favorite)
-TRUTH OR SCARE (2001-2003) 👻🎃(This show is the reason I know more creepy history than I learned in school lol I loved it to the core and it's a must-watch. I could listen to Michelle Trachtenberg talk about history all day and actually be into history and learn it. She makes it sound so questionable and open to theory in an eerie and interesting way. lol This show is nice to put in the background and listen to. It is dark history at one of its finest moments.) This link is the only way to watch as I looked everywhere and had no luck but youtube. hehe enjoy it has a playlist of all the episodes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dF_LEogV9VY&list=PL_cE9n5XkFqc-rOg642JVnDA6Zmq-MqTi
-Scare Tactics (2003-2013)👻🎃🎃🎃 One of the best shows for sci-fi and horror fans lol and it is funny to see what people do in certain situations. lol
THE FILMS MUAHAHAHAHAHA LET'S BEGIN
-Untraceable (2008) 🎃🎃🎃🎃(one of my favorites)

-Don't Breathe (2016) and Don't Breathe 2 (2021) 👻👻🎃🎃🎃🎃
