SUBLIME CINEMA #675 - ANATOMY OF A FALL

Fully engrossing, beautifully written and acted film.

There's something so precise about the filmmaking, meticulous and rigid in its adherence to its own aesthetic rules. Even the cinematography is so purposefully, digitally bland that we rarely move or widen past the immediate confines of the characters states of mind, and are given no real sense of place.

We know we are in an alpine town, somewhere outside of Grenoble, but it could be anywhere really, cut off and isolated: the couple are living in an unfinished home and sleep in different bedrooms. They share a child, who survived an accident that left him partially blind. What he sees, or doesn't see, hears or doesn't hear.. Throughout we loop around the truth.

Brilliant stuff

I'll be real with you, until I see Adam Driver is attached to this project I sincerely dgaf, and we all know that's not going to happen I don't blame him for writing off the whole idea post TROS, obviously, the cast of the Sequel Trilogy was PRISTINE across the board and I blame them for literally nothing, it is DLF that is the problem It will be interesting to see how Star Wars fans react to this, and if anyone at all gives it the time of day. It will also be interesting to see if they give Rey a new love interest in these new movies, because I've got a feeling the internet will instantly set the whole thing on fire if they do Lots of bad in the future, people. Lots of bad.

Underneath the Cinderella romantic comedy of Upgraded is the running theme of women supporting women and how that’s so much more powerful than tearing each other apart.

Fun fact, most of the actresses in this movie have played strong female characters in other shows (including some of my favorite canonically queer characters)
