Disappointed in the developments regarding Wyll in this recent patch. He deserves just as much love as the rest of the companions, and his story deserves to be told. For those who are stuck in situations because it was their only choice for survival, for those who try desperately to do the right thing even if it’s detrimental to themself purely because it’s the right thing to do. For those who want that storybook romance, that slow burn love, for those on the asexual spectrum or the aromantic spectrum or even those who don’t want something as sexual as what you get with the other companions. Just because he is not as “popular” or didn’t have as explosive a fan base as companions like Astarion does not mean he doesn’t deserve the same work put into him and his story.
We know why he actually isn’t getting the same treatment. Do better Larian.

Did y'all see this? 🙃 I highly recommend checking the comments on this tweet for more info, but to summarize the presenter decided to take fan questions instead of letting Theo tell his story about how he landed the role as Wyll. Because they were "short on time".
And like, you're gonna cut off one of the main speakers for some fan questions? If you're out of time then let him speak for the rest of that time, are you serious?? Intentionally targeted or not this feels rancid. The dismissal and exclusion of black characters and entertainers is an ongoing problem in general and is pretty damn rampant in this fandom as is. Awful :(

Wyll is an absolute gem
Ok, folks, you know. I love Wyll as a character. Just look at these:
He sold his soul to the devils
He is mutilated for life
His father, the only person he respected, disowned him
His ass belongs to the batshit crazy demon who put him in the bureaucracy hell
There is a brain-eating parasite in his brain
He is 2-minutes away from turning into a tentacle monster
But gods, he is so calm about it. He is never angry, never upset, supports other characters, and never loses hope. How can't you love Wyll? Wyll is everything.
ADD: Wyll is the only character in the game who is "your typical fantasy hero." He is a brave, chivalrous nobleman, ready to challenge any monster to protect common folks. Tragic backstory, of course - sold the soul to save his people. Imagine him being an MC in a classic fantasy book. Or the protagonist in an old movie. But always - heroic, kind, brave, cunning. Wyll is the character who saves the princess, Wyll is the character who fights the greater evil, and Wyll is this very guy who wears shining armor and leads his loyal people to the battle.  He is a paladin who has to be the warlock. He is the prince who has to be an outcast. He is a nobleman having to leave among the poor. He is the character fantasy writers dedicate long-ass series of books slowly upgrading them to be the Chosen ones and the promised princes.
Wyll is perfect. Protect Wyll at all costs.

BG3 is a R O L E P L A Y I N G GAME...
Okay, time to be a bit controversial but I need to get this off my chest. Mainly because I've been seeing it everywhere. Instagram. Here. Youtube. Even the cursed site that is Reddit. I doubt this will reach many people, but I'll feel better having gotten it out of my head.
I think that a lot of people who play/played BG3 have forgotten that it is of ROLEPLAYING game. Let me repeat that. ROLEPLAYING. That means, that your game is based off of YOUR choices and YOUR choices alone. Meaning that the things you choose to do in this game are based on YOUR interpretation of the media. There is NO canonical interpretation of the game because it is YOUR campaign based on how YOU play. The plotline, the romances, and everything that happens is based on YOUR choices and how YOU decide to ROLEPLAY it.
Why am I putting so much emphasis on this? Well, because with the new patch, some additions were made to Durge's storyline. Mainly regarding Gortash. Nothing major at all, honestly. But, as we know, durgtash is quite a popular ship in the fandom. There was an added line during Gortash's coronation when Gortash expressed that he "liked" the Dark Urge in comparison to his sibling. A line has been added where the Durge can reply "I think I liked you too." That's it. That's what all the fuss is about. Because oh boy, did some people interpret that as Larian forcing durgetash on the players. First...what? How--
Let me preface this by saying I'm NOT a durgetash shipper AT ALL. I don't even like Gortash. Believe me, I've tried to see what people see in it (and him). I went and found all the journals and letters trying to see the romantic connection, and I just couldn't. It seems more like admiration and respect than love for me, but hey...guess what...that's MY interpretation. That's not what those who love this ship feel and that's perfectly okay because it's THEIR Campaign.
My point is, in no way is Larian FORCING a romantic relationship between Gortash and the Durge UNLESS you interpret it that way. Gortash says he "liked" you. Okay, That can mean many things. He respected you as his partner in this whole scheme. He enjoyed your company in comparison to Orin. Or, he saw you as a true friend. Or if you want--and only if you want it--he liked you romantically. And this is vice versa for the new line that was added to further differentiate the Durge from a Tav. It is such a vague line and can be interpreted in so many ways, that I truly don't understand what all the fuss is about. If you don't see Gortash as a previous romantic partner...then don't.
The Dark Urge is in many ways a blank slate. Yes, they have a bloody past when it comes to murder, but you don't have to add personal relationships to it if you don't want to. Hell, in my latest playthrough, my durge was a virgin when this whole mess began lol (They, of course, didn't know that, but it's what I roleplayed). They also never fully recover their memory outside of what's shown in the game. They're a complete blank slate at the start and the end. The durge has no personal background so you can make your own. So you can ROLEPLAY.
If you don't like the idea of Durge and Gortash being a thing...don't roleplay it that way. And, if you interpret that line as romantic DON'T click it. But there is no reason to be going around saying something is being forced on you when it isn't.
(If you want to be mad about something, be mad about Wyll constantly being sidelined compared to every other companion, but that's another post in itself.)
Anyway, if you read this thanks and have fun with whatever headcanon you carry.

❗Epilogue spoiler
(Wyll broke his pact wiht Mizora and reminds to be the Blade)
Nightwarden Minthara: I am sure that being slain by a heroic blade is of great comfort to your victims.
1>Player(Wyll): They are not victims, they are monsters.
Nightwarden Minthara: I have been both victim and monster. Whichever you saw me as, if your turned your blade on me, there are still those who would grieve my passing. And I would bleed like any other.
2>Player(Wyll):  I bring justice, not comfort.
Nightwarden Minthara: I was taught that any man who spoke out of line, or above his lowly station, should be punished. I called that justice. I do not think there is such a thing as justice anymore, and I do not find my comfort at either end of a blade.
3>Player(Wyll):  I'm a protector, not a killer.
Nightwarden Minthara: In this world, the two roles go hand in hand more often than not. Call yourself a slayer of monsters and be proud, for that is what you are.

I’m still hyperfixated on bg3, but the honeymoon phase is probably over. Probably.
So, there’s something that’s bugging me a lot. And the more I develop my OC relationship with Minthara the madder I get.
Minthara was clearly meant to be a companion in ANY run. It’s not shown so much in act 1&2, but it becomes clear in act 3, even with all the cut content.
She’s a drow so yes, she has an evil alignment and is power hungry. But she’s not a crazy murderer, as shown in her dialogue after you beat Orin.
In act 2, she asks you why you killed the tieflings if you did so, which already shows that she isn’t a murder hobo, but if you didn’t (the druids killed them or you just went on your merry road to find a cure) she asks you why would you come to Moonrise Tower.
Meaning, she recognises that you didn’t kill them.
Now, if you go with the “the druids killed the tieflings” option, Wyll and Karlach will leave anyway. Hell, if you talk with Karlach she gets mad at you as if you killed them, even if the game knows you didn’t and you realize it once you get to the Minthara dialogue I mentioned.
So, why can’t I keep Karlach and Wyll? Hell, even keep Halsin with Minthara. He doesn’t care if the grove closes leaving him out or if you kill the druids, his punishment for Kagha is very light and her actions would’ve been as evil as Minthara’s if not worse, so I don’t think he would’ve mind travelling with Minthara that much.
All of this leads me to think that Minthara was relegated to the evil run as a way to make up for all the content you loose if something happens to the tieflings.
I get the idea, but it makes no sense. She doesn’t even get her own companion quest, how can she make up for all the lost content related to the tieflings? Just leave her in every run and give us a free update with actual content for an evil murder hobo run (only a few things in act 3 come to my mind).
And yeah, I modded my game just to have her as a companion in every run. As she deserves.

Have Baator on the brain today because I cannot cope with the game sometimes seemingly acting like Wyll is an actual fucking devil - do the writers understand the concept of what they've written in if that's not metaphor? The themes of identity loss and having your soul destroyed and corrupted into one of the "incarnate expressions of law and evil" when all you ever did was choose kindness, and struggling to resist this injustice and be good? If Wyll is an actual devil he should be struggling with doing good as hard, maybe harder, than Durge is with their murder impulses!
I mean there's a lot more I could complain about in regards to creating devils and being a devil - like the unimaginable torture until the "last glimmer of humanity" is destroyed and the destruction of the soul?? (and which of the highly specific ranks does he belong to Larian. WHICH), but I think instead I'll cry onto my copies of the Fiendish Codex II. Why am I like this?
Larian, either play into the (potentially compelling) narrative you built or stop being so goddamn dramatic about a cosmetic change. He's a tiefling, as written.
...also, even if it a cosmetic change, more exploration on the impact on Wyll bearing a physical mark of his dealings with Mizora would be nice, knowing how his father raised him and would think of him... Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure that regardless of all this, a speedrun of the Nine Hells would be, uh, insanely traumatic??
He had contact with the River of Blood, you say? The River Styx? This river: "The Styx forever erases the memories of any soul coming into contact with it."
I've said before that I pretty much always DM because I struggle when another DM rules things differently and so I'm being irrational and unfair, and maybe 5e changed things from the lore I know and I've not seen it yet, but *muffled screaming*
