tbh,, i havent read the raws of the interview yet, only the translated ver from fan-translator and b4 i start, i think that this will be just me talking in circle and in no particular order AND a real mess (my brain does weird things after exams) but uhh here we go

gojou collects talented people, and by doing so he finds the people he can most probably relate to, except that he can't, not really, because something in the universe shifted when he was born. and it makes me think of how he's always known it, that he is special, and he's proven it, time and time again— he wants to take in talented ppl and he does, but there rly isn't much he can do for them. for they are talented, more talented than the world can understand,,

but they aren't gojou satoru

gojou took in megumi, bc he knew megumi was strong, and would grow up to be someone even stronger, but gojou can't facilitate or encourage his growth, bc for all they're similar, they are so fundamentally different. ALSO,, while geto was in his life, gojou rly judged everything according to his understanding of geto’s moral compass. gojou wears a human suit and geto is how he learnt to wear it well 🏃

the dragonfly analogy regarding to geto’s response to gojo, who was shown wearing a dragonfly patterned yukata in HI arc,, i’m trying to not think abt the fact that dragonfly symbolized victory in jpn....pain. i quoted from a web here for more explanation : In Japan the dragonfly is known as the "victory insect", or kachimushi, because of its hunting prowess and also because it is known to never retreat. Dragonflies are agile and fast fliers and can even hover, but never fly backwards

and bringing this up again, matricide and patricide are 2 of the 5 worst act to commit in buddhism, and it was said that if u commit one of those act u’re going to spend a real long time in the deepest pit of hell before continuing the samsaric cycle (higher chances to be born as an animal after that probs)— this might be geto’s divine retribution. held no power over his own body and could be considered that he’s the same as those “monkeys” 💀

so the organized Belarusian opposition has recently published a list of demands and i thought they’d be worth going over in addition to everyone who is covering the protests themselves.

the manifesto can be found here in russian (archive.org link as i’ve started getting a 508 error in between compiling this and writing it as a tumblr post). i will not go over every word there but i encourage you to read it yourself if you feel my summary is incomplete.

the second paragraph of the introductory section starts out saying “To create a modern labor market with low unemployment, opportunities for young people, economic potential for investors and entrepreneurs, it is necessary to establish a new balance of interests.” here it bears emphasis that according to the world bank belarus’ unemployment rate (source, world bank) is 4.5%, putting it on par with Austria. remember that low unemployment is the first thing listed by opposition economists, as this will be relevant later. when they tell us they are looking to reduce unemployment and create opportunities for investors in a country with regionally normal unemployment rates, what they mean is they want to create opportunities for investors only.

we now move on the the first bullet-point in the section “Problems to be Solved by Our Reforms”

“The labor market is over-regulated. Difficulties in hiring and firing employees“ this is for sure an odd criticism to make considering we were just told unemployment is apparently the main problem. i don’t know about you guys but i sure wish the labor market here was over-regulated and it would be more difficult to fire people. im not one to use reaction gifs but this would be a great place for a confused sassy black woman.

the bullet-point list is concluded by a repeated statement of grievance against the state for overstepping its bounds in determining the terms of an employment contract “reducing the incentive to work.” if your employer was lobbying for their right to increase the “incentives to work” in their contract with you, what do you think that’d look like ? what does that term mean in a practical sense, would your employer have to lobby the government to offer you lucrative overtime pay or would they rather lobby to reduce your base wage and then add a performance-adjusted “bonus” ? the second point simply states that “The government's job creation and retention policy focuses on maintaining large state-owned enterprises through cash infusions, though the resources of the state in the economic crisis are declining.” again as if a job retention scheme is inherently a bad thing.

on to the next list, “Goals and Objectives of the Reform”

“Development of a promising system of full and productive employment based on the priority of generally recognized principles of international law.“ it would be nice to know what is meant here by “recognized principles of international law” unless of course that means selling off of the before mentioned state jobs to international businesses at below-market value as was done in virtually every country in eastern europe in the last 25 years, in that case i would not like to know what they mean by that expression.

“support for the unemployed and workers at risk of job loss” just seems further contradicting all the previous grievances of how hard it is to let people go, so is your plan to jeopardize their position and then give them training and assistance to make up for the loss of job security you caused or ???

(TOP - “5. Modernization of infrastructure (roads, electricity, thermal energy, telecommunications, water supply, waste collection and environmental protection”

BOTTOM - “to attract investors”)

the rest of the list is really just more repeats or meaningless terms like “fighting corruption”

now we’re getting to the meat of the reforms: how they are proposing to realize them. in order to generate employees, they are proposing to: support the liberalization of hiring practices (most likely meaning introducing zero hour contracts), threefold reducing the individual tax rate, adoption of the patent (as a practice), threefold reduction in rental rates for objects owned by the state, reducing administrative burden by half.

as a result of these changes, 300k jobs will be created in the next two years. the plan says verbatim “These places will be occupied by both young people and workers dismissed from state-owned enterprises.” now i must confess i did not go to business school but i feel like if you fire 300k people, and then re-hire (most of) them with worse contracts, while paying less to rent the factories or land they worked on before anyway, you really cannot say you “created” 300k jobs. idk tho just how i see it.

other highlights include “we should be allowed to sell you shittier quality products so you have to buy more of them”

gotta have a section on Small Businesses. everyone loves mom and pop stores and cool startups, best not think about how its precisely their smallness that makes it so easy for large (foreign and domestic) companies to buy them because they don’t have the overhead to withstand larger companies operating at a temporary loss to compete. precarious small businesses trying to not be pressured into bankruptcy are going to be an excellent sponge to soak up all those employees we dismiss from state-owned enterprises and force to move cross country to get jobs (it literally says labor migrants from other regions and cities in belarus will fulfill this demand for workers. why do they have to migrate ? i dont know)

ok now that we’ve fried the small fish here comes the big boys. “3. Take all possible measures to attract foreign investors, including transnational corporations (TNCs).” finally a chance for the proud and appropriately-valued youth of belarus to work in call centers and machine tool manufacturies owned by T-Mobile and Volkswagen.

here’s what they simply have to do to get those charitable transnational corporations to toss these cold slavs a penny: large-scale privatization, land market (ie. privatizing forests or areas with natural gas or mineral deposits), creation of legal guarantees for property rights, acceptance of EU-given standards for goods an services (shout out to the real ones who know the EU literally has regulation allowing the use of cheaper and more dangerous pesticides and perservatives on goods meant for export to the eastern part of the EU “in order to be able to sell at competitive prices in countries with lower relative value of the same currency we forced you to use”)

im gonna start skipping around more because there’s a lot of repetition, a lot of “once we fire all these people we can re-hire them, and that means we’ll create another 100k jobs” but this phrase specifically stands out and demands having attention called to it. detoxification of assets is business talk for when you steal something and then just say it wasnt stolen and everyone agrees that was very cool actually.

and here we have the experts who developed this proposal.

Lev Margolin - a Belarusian economist who regularly prostrates himself in public begging the IMF to impose privatization, even calling for public unrest in 2016 in order to force the international community to intervene and force those measures.

Yaroslav Romančuk - a libertarian politician, president of the Mises Center for Scientific Research thinktank. in an interview with Radio Free Europe - Georgia published Aug 15th, openly stated that there were interests in ukraine associated with the pro-EU euromaidan movement interested and willing to oversee transition to a free society. he also named Mikheil Saakashvili as someone who he would like to be a mediator between the opposition and president lukašenka. Saakashvili is the former president of Georgia, having come to power during the 2003 Rose Revolution (hi mr Soros), whose tenure is highlighted by a strong push towards NATO membership, increasing the military budget by a multiple of 30, and starting joint drills with the US Army. he also privatized georgia’s healthcare system, leaving a great deal of the population without healthcare as they were stranded between being able to afford private, but not being poor enough to qualify for the public option. a short five years after becoming president, allegations of corruption, money laundering, extortion, and abuse of power were made against him, in response to which he had early elections which he won amid widespread accusations of voter fraud. hmm. later he would be so popular he had to flee to ukraine in 2014 after euromaidan where he was appointed governor of odessa and given ukranian citizenship (yes, in that order). crazy how ukraine doesnt allow its citizens to be extradited or something. anyway yeah thats the guy the opposition wants to be the mediator between them and lukašenka

Stanislav Bogdankevič - former chairman of the Belarusian National Bank ousted on suspected embezzlement and money laundering charges and also an IMF beggar. hobbyist advisor to ukrainian politicians and belarusian politicians acting in ukraine.

Mikhail Čigir - former prime minister of belarus, seems to be household name soft opposition, has interviews with RFE Belarus but doesn’t seem openly linked to the IMF or calling for widespread privatization like the rest on this list.

if you’ve made it to the end or this is the last thing you see before scrolling by, i want to emphasize that i am in no way contesting the accusations of voter fraud. there is not a chance lukašenka got 80% of the vote as he claims, nor am i defending treatment of the protesters. the people in the streets are overwhelmingly participating an organic social movement against the government. however it is rarely the people in the street who get to make the decisions following this sort of toppling of a system of power, rather well funded and well organized groups with ties to foreign interests who have something to offer to the international community (political and financial) in exchange for approving and orchestrating regime change. it is worth talking about what their plans are, and how similar plans have affected people in neighboring countries that were in similar situations. what i wish for the people of belarus is the ability to pursue fulfilling personal lives that are not marred by choices like “can i afford to start a family ?”

Wow, people really went ham in the notes of this post

I thought I wouldnt get a response buuuuut surprisingly I did, so its only fair that I respond back now

This response is to @super-ana-maria specifically

NaruSaku had a chance, Kishimoto said in an interview afte chapter 700 that he did not knew with who Naruto should end up with Sakura or Hinata.

Show me proof, the only time he mentions NaruSaku having a chance is when he said he once considered whether or not to CHANGE his original intended ending and make NaruSaku canon instead, he thought against it and stuck to his original plan. It was just a thought that crossed his mind because of popularity, not because he himself wanted it. If he did, why would he go against his own wife who wanted NaruSaku? clearly his opinion on which pairing to make canon was far different from hers and everyone else at the studio who also wanted NaruSaku. Kishimoto ignored ALL of them. If it were ever a serious consideration from him he would have discussed that with them the way he told voice actors early on in the anime that SasuSaku would be together in the end.

Heres snippets to back up everything I mentioned

Read the bottom paragraph, Kishimoto explains that Hinata and Naruto were always intended to be married from the start, NaruSaku was never set in his mind.

I know people say he contradicts himself here saying from the middle he decided NaruHina but then another interview he says from the beginning but that doesnt mean hes lying one way or the other, maybe he decided NaruHina early on but wasnt concrete set on it until the middle, what he says afterwards solidifies that theory

From the middle of the story? Hm! What sealed this decision for you? I think what made me realize it was partly because, if you really look back and think about it, Hinata always supported and acknowledged Naruto, even before Master Iruka. She had the ability to see beyond his reputation and see the true person inside. I think I started realizing that they were meant to be.

So it pretty much falls in line with what I said, he had the idea early on but he didnt realize they were meant to be until the middle of the story, which would explain why it had so little development in the beginning.

SasuSaku however never had this issue and every interview about them has been consistent, Kishimoto and the VAs both say SasuSaku was decided during the early stages of the anime and it shows as out of all the couples they’ve had the most focus out of all of them, even the MCs.

Unfortunately I cant find the proper source to this but this is still basically what was said. There was a time he considered NaruSaku but decided against it because making her fall inlove with Naruto at this point would make her a terrible woman, which makes sense because she’d only change her feelings after Naruto became the village hero. That wouldnt feel very genuine and come off very shallow. Sakuras heart has always belonged to Sasuke, she was devoted to him even after he chose to walk down the path of darkness. So to suddenly have her fall for Naruto after being so devoted to Sasuke once he became a hero would make her seem like a terrible woman. She only loves Naruto now that hes a hero, not when he was a nobody. This wouldnt feel like love, it would feel like a rebound and alot of people wouldnt like it because of the message it’d send.

Imagine you rejected a nice guy who was a loser and everyone hated him thats been pining for you since you were kids. But you never had any interest in him but instead liked someone else. You love this guy for years even when he goes down a dark path you stay devoted to them up till your teens and continue to only see the nice guy as your friend. Suddenly he becomes very successful and everyone loves and respects him now and hes no longer a loser. Now you suddenly see him differently and decide you love him now instead of the other guy you've loved all these years

Wouldnt you think that looks pretty shallow? doesnt that send the wrong message? you’ve never been interested in this guy UNTIL he became successful, now you suddenly realize you love him. Its exactly what Kishimoto said, it would make Sakura a terrible woman.

Naruto told his father that Sakura was his girlfriend, in the 4th databooks entry one on Sakura it was stated that she waa conflicted emotionaly between Sasuke and Naruto.

Read the paragraph of the first photo I mentioned, he says he intentionally sprinkled little NaruSaku nuggets as a red herring, which was successful because many people fell for it despite seeing Sakura still being wholeheartedly devoted to Sasuke.

Prior to being a sasusaku fan, this is my OTP not NaruSaku, I’m a Naruto fan first of all and the fact that Naruto did not pay any attention to Hinata(the girl confessed her love and he forgot about it), Kushina wanted for her son to be somebody like her(Sakura is like her, Minato said it) and Naruto convinced Sai, that he loves Sakura and Sai guilt tripped her into a fake confessed, only for later on in Naruto the last, *cought* Hinata the last *cought*, for all of this to be nothing more then a lie and him turning into a scumbag, for the line that he told Sakura: “I hate people that lie to themself”, well Naruto lied to himself for what 7 years?

I wont argue with you here, even I think that was bullshit. Dont get me wrong Im not really defending NaruHina because personally idgaf about the ship and really dislike her thanks to that god awful ending and how SP is trying to shove her down our throats and try to turn her character into someone she isnt. So Im not defending NaruHina Im just pointing out the facts. NaruSaku NEVER had a chance, unless you wanna count that brief consideration a chance.

The anime ended up with ….a wedding, like a cheap SHOUJO story, in which the girl gets everything she was. So saying that Naruto is a shoujo story is basically the truth.

The manga ended in a better note with Naruto being the Hokage and living the life he wanted.

Again I wont argue there, thank god Kishimoto ended the story with the Boruto movie, something he actually WROTE and wanted to make. Because if he had ended Naruto with The Last, that would have been one of the worst endings in Shounen history, a Shounen literally turned Shoujo for its ending.

Dont get me started on how the anime ended on a fucking wedding we already got in the movie and not the ACTUAL FUCKING FINAL CHAPTER OF THE MANGA.

How TF do you animate 699 chapters worth of content and then literally skip the final fucking chapter 700 in favor of a fuckin novel rehashing an already shown wedding. Tell me how that makes any fuckin sense, it doesnt, its like SP forgot they were animating a Shounen and thought they were doing a Shoujo at the end. And people have the nerve to complain the manga ending was bad.

Thank Kishimoto for the manga and staying focused on what Narutos ACTUALLY about. The anime spit on Narutos legacy and basically turned from the Shounen about Naruto, to a Shoujo about Hinata.

Dare somebody to tell me Im wrong, you know Im not.

I was serious when I said I would do it. Hope you like it.

Ben Hardy needs to sing I'm in Love With My Car. In this essay I will explain why. I was serious when I promised people I would do this but I am out of school for winter break so if this looks bad, I apologize. Also I am counting this as my introduction paragraph and you can’t stop me. But since I did actually promise an essay I will try my best to make it as essay -ish as possible. This is a really bad hook but here we go. The reasons Ben needs to sing the classic song (written by Roger Taylor (gotta cite my stuff you know)) I’m In Love With My Car are because he has such a different voice from Roger Taylor and it would be a very unique take on this song, the fandom would get to hear him actually sing for the first time, and lastly we all want to hear his falsetto again. So without further ado: my essay.

While Roger Taylor has a very distinct rasp in his voice, Ben hardy does not. One thing the Susie Figgis, the casting director for the 2018 movie Bohemian Rhapsody, the Queen biopic co- produced by Roger Taylor himself, chose to do with this iconic cast is place Ben Hardy, the Eastenders and X- Men Apocalypse star, into the Role of Roger Taylor. (this is probably a comma splice sorry) While the rest of the cast absolutely nailed every aspect such as looks, voice, even as far as laughs; Ben hardy did in fact not. While I personally feel Hardy did an amazing job in the role, his voice is quite deeper as well as less raspy. His physique is also much buffer than Roger as well. Hardy even mentions in an interview that his thighs are too muscular for the role of Taylor. I'm almost 95% sure that this is the result of bribery from Taylor to Figgis. While Ben didn't think it was good to imitate Taylor but to capture his essence, he did a wonderful job, but his voice is still distinctly different from Taylor's. If Ben Hardy sang Taylor's song, you would get a brand new take with the classic vibe because of the difference in their two voices.

Another reason Hardy needs to sing Taylor's song is no one has ever actually heard him sing. He did sing a little bit when hitting the classic "Galileo's" from the song Bohemian Rhapsody. But that along with the word “Figaro”, are the only two words anyone has ever heard Hardy sing. While it would be interesting to see him sing other songs, I’m in Love With My Car was made fun of in the movie and is a full solo that Taylor sings. Most of the time Taylor sings backing vocals so this would be a rare time he sings a full song. Taylor is also known as a good singer as well as a drummer. So if the Man who played him (Hardy) can very well capture how Taylor plays the drums he should at least show us how his singing is. It may be very far from Taylor’s actual voice, but we would never truly know until Hardy sings.

Lastly, when we did in fact hear Hardy sing, he sang in a super high falsetto. It was very attractive to watch him do it. It was even more attractive to hear later say in the movie “I think my balls are in my chest.” Wouldn’t it be nice to see him do that again? While most of the song is set to a Tenor voice, closer to the bridge of the song there is a line “Cars don’t talk back, they’re just four wheeled friends now.” This is where the song gets higher and calls for a falsetto note or two. We all want to see Hardy hit this note. And to make matters even better, we all know Hardy wouldn’t just preform this song alone; he would call the rest of the borhap boys to come preform with him. Whether they want to or not they would probably do it for Hardy’s sake, I mean c’mon have you seen him give puppy dog eyes? Joe Mazzello would literally do anything for Hardy. So if we could see this we could also see Gwylim Lee play the nice-ass guitar melody that actually truly holds this song together. I mean let’s be honest, the words are trash but the music is as fine as Tom Hiddleston’s voice.

preface: long + potentially controversial

I...honestly don’t think that’s something he even wants? tabloid supremacy means that there’s actually something to talk about - whether that’s made up or not is not even the point - but people will either talk about something personal that you might not even want in the media or they will buy into a story you’re selling them and his current strategy in terms of relationships/content of his songs won’t hold forever, also there are certain topics he’s better at lying about than others

YES. I feel like something people forget is just how driven and ambitious and sharp both Shawn and his team are mostly because they either can’t see what they’re doing and they refuse to believe the team would purposely throw someone under the bus or even that his ambitions (obviously) influence what he does and how he presents himself

do we (seemingly) get more access to celebrities’ private lives these days (via social media)? yes. does that mean the world is more open and the content is somehow significantly less curated? not always. I agree that people don’t want to see a made-up person and I admire his determination to be close and authentic to his fans but at the end of the day, what the public sees is always going to be Shawn Mendes The Brand. and that’s not a bad thing! people feel so entitled to everything these days and yes it’s good that the parts we get to see are real but I just think it’s important that it’s small parts and not everything. idk where I’m going with this.

THE MOST IMPORTANT AND INTERESTING PART OF THIS PIECE AND HIM IN GENERAL. so. ugh I could spend ages writing about this so I hope I’m making sense condensing this into a paragraph or two. basically the issue with everything relating to him and his authenticity is that there’s a clear line between things - for him, and for the fans and those are not always the same. for Shawn it’s Shawn Mendes™ (encompassing everything directed outwards to media but also fans) | normal real-life Shawn - which I find extremely important. he has his life away from the fans and the attention and there’s things that people that don’t know him in real life will never know about. that’s Good and that’s how it should be.

the problem arises when you look at what fans think this divide is. for that you have to split Shawn Mendes™ into tabloid!Shawn and fan!Shawn. the assumption of course is that fan!Shawn is close to equivalent to normal-Shawn. so what happens is that you have this “reverse trickle-down” scale going from tabloid!Shawn | fan!Shawn | actual Shawn and depending on who you talk to they’ll give you a different definition of which line the “split” is at.

reading this through idk if I got across what I meant without writing an actual essay but the most important thing is that “outside of all” means away from the spotlight and i love that he has that.

this is one particular angle of this topic that I don’t necessarily have thoughts I want to share about but .... this is not how someone who reads off-base comments would feel about this. I’m refraining from commenting on this too much since it’s private and delicate either way and I tend to dislike both “sides”” comments on it so all I’m saying is that I’m glad he’s aware of the support system he has.

I think it’s interesting that he’s very aware of how this particular specific group feels about the discourse - I mean obviously he’s aware but that he’s acknowledging it in this way is ....yeah. It probably means a lot that he said this. I would go so far as to say I think no one in the position he portrays himself to be in would phrase it like this - but he does, and I think you need an emotional proximity to really understand what he’s talking about. I don’t have that but this makes it seem like he does, which ... yeah. again.

no that’s not why you criticised it and we all know it. the “career isn’t over if people think you’re not perfect” part feels like a personal call-out to me.

I cannot believe the interviewer straight-up asked him this but also I support this kind of journalism. his answer was good too but i don’t have too much to say about it.

Eine verrückte Idee nahm im Mai ihren Anfang

[English version further down]

Ein Online-Interview mit Alastair Humphreys, eine Broschüre bei der langen Nacht der Kirchen, ein Artikel in Aufatmen, … und bevor ich Recht weiß wie mir geschieht, bin ich fasziniert von der Idee zu pilgern. Ich habe mich anscheinend mit einem „Virus“ angesteckt.

Anfang August begann ich mit konkreten Vorbereitungen, wie z.B. längere Wanderungen in der Umgebung, die ersten Ausrüstungsgegenstände kaufen, mich in Online Foren informieren. Nach über 40 Jahre nicht Wandern und Null Ahnung über Weitwandern und Rucksack-Reisen, gab es für mich sehr viel zu lernen.

Schließlich machte ich im September eine Woche Wanderurlaub in Radstadt und merkte, wie sehr es mir zusagte. Zwar musste ich knieschonend gehen und brauchte dadurch oft viel länger als andere. Trotzdem habe ich am letzten Tag ungeplant die 20km Grenze geknackt. Da war klar, dass ich früher oder später einen längeren Pilgerweg gehen möchte. Aus verschiedenen Faktoren wurde dann früher, statt später.

Zu dem Zeitpunkt kannte ich bereits eine sehr nette Facebook-Gruppe, die auf den portugiesischen Jakobsweg spezialisiert ist. Nicht nur, dass sie eine tolle, ermutigende Gruppe sind, sie haben auch eine tolle Leiterin, die sich speziell um die Anfänger kümmert. Außerdem war bald klar, dass der Weg von Porto nach Santiago de Compostela ideal für Anfänger ist. Leider ist er schon so bekannt, dass er in der Sommermonaten ziemlich überlaufen ist. Und so entschloss ich mich im Oktober zu gehen, obwohl ich dann mit vermehrten Regenfällen rechnen muss.

Inzwischen habe ich fast alles, was ich dafür brauche. Der Flug und die erste Unterkunft in Porto sind gebucht. Die weiteren Unterkünfte hängen dann davon ab, wie viel Kilometer ich schaffe.

Die obigen Absätzen vermittelt euch aber nicht wirklich, wie verrückt die Idee ist und wie sehr sie im Widerspruch steht, zu vielem worauf ich bei Urlaubsbuchungen bisher geachtet habe.

Auch wenn ich während meiner Arbeit in Afrika, speziell den Spracherkundungsreisen in der Zentralafrikanischen Republik, oft jeden Tag an einem anderen Ort schlief, nie wusste, ob es eine Matratze oder nur eine Strohmatte gibt, ob und wann wir etwas zu essen kriegen bzw. unsere Vorräte auffüllen können, war das immer der am wenigsten geliebte Aspekt meiner Arbeit. Ich liebte es die Forschungsarbeit durchzuführen, die Menschen vor Ort und ihre Kultur kennenzulernen, mit ihnen zusammen zu sein, aber ich hasste das Reisen. Wenigstens waren wir als gut eingespieltes Team unterwegs und hatten ein gutes geländegängiges Auto für das oft sehr unwegsame Gelände.

Urlaub hieß für mich, an einem Ort zu bleiben, möglichst wo man Schwimmen kann, viel Zeit zum Lesen und Schlafen, vielleicht Radfahren oder Windsurfen, aber möglichst ruhig und natürlich im Einzelzimmer, vorzugsweise mit Kochgelegenheit wegen meiner Unverträglichkeiten. Ich fuhr vorzugsweise mit dem Auto auf Urlaub, weil man sich dann nicht so einschränken muss, was man mitnimmt. So landeten oft zusätzliche Bücher, Schuhe, Gewand für alle Eventualitäten und diverse Hobby-Utensilien im Auto, auch wenn ich sie vielleicht nicht brauchen würde. Aber man kann ja nie wissen.

Dazu kommt, dass ich schlechte Füße und lädierte Knie habe. Aus diesem Grund habe ich immer Radfahren und Schwimmen dem Spazierengehen vorgezogen und vor einigen Jahren auf Rat mehrerer Ärzte, den Versuch zu laufen wieder aufgegeben.

Insofern scheint es mir selber sehr verrückt, etwas in Betracht zu ziehen, bei dem ich

jeden Tag zu Fuß unterwegs bin, womöglich im Regen,

jeden Tag woanders schlafen werde,

oft den Schlafsaal mit anderen teilen muss und nicht weiß ob ich unter diesen Umständen gut und lang genug schlafen kann,

nicht weiß, ob ich unterwegs die richtigen Lebensmittel / Mahlzeiten in ausreichender Menge finden werde,

mit wenig Gepäck auskommen muss, jeden Tag Wäsche waschen muss und eben nicht für alle Eventualitäten ausgerüstet bin.

Trotzdem: Bom Caminho (port.), Bon Camino (span.), zu Deutsch: „Guter Weg!“ (Pilgergruß)

In dieser Zeit möchte ich praktisch nicht Online sein, vor allem nicht auf Facebook, und so habe ich diese Plattform gewählt, um für alle die Interesse haben, ab und zu Updates von unterwegs und Fotos zu posten. A crazy idea started in May

An online interview with Alastair Humphreys, a brochure at the Long Night of Churches, an article in a Christian magazine, ... and before I knew what was happening to me, I was fascinated by the idea of pilgrimage. I apparently got infected with this "virus" against all odds. At the beginning of August, I started with some concrete preparations, e.g. hiking in the surrounding mountains, buying the first equipment, informing myself in online forums. After more than 40 years of not hiking and no idea about long trail hiking and backpack travel, there was a lot for me to learn. Finally, in September I spent a week hiking in Radstadt (Salzburg province) and noticed how much I liked it. I had to walk in a way that was easy on my knees which often took me much longer than others. Nevertheless, I broke the 20km barrier on the last day (unplanned). It became clear that sooner or later I would like to go on a longer pilgrimage. Various factors turned this idea into sooner instead of later. At the time, I already knew a very nice Facebook group that specializes in the Portuguese Way to Santiago. Not only are they a great, encouraging group, they also have a great leader who takes care of the beginners. Also, it soon became clear that the way from Porto (Portugal) to Santiago de Compostela (Spain) is ideal for beginners. Unfortunately, it is already well known so that it is quite overcrowded in the summer months. Eventually, I decided to go in October, although I will have to expect more rainfall. Meanwhile, I have almost everything together. The flight and the first accommodation in Porto are booked. The other accommodations will depend on how many miles I will cover each day. The above paragraphs do not really convey to you how crazy this idea is and how much it contradicts everything I've paid attention to when planning vacations until now. In Africa I often slept in different places every day during my time, especially during the language survey trips in the Central African Republic, and I never knew if there would be a mattress or just a straw mat, if and when we would get something to eat or be able to stock up our supplies, but I never liked it. Traveling was always the least favourite aspect of my work. I loved doing the research, getting to know the local people and their culture, sitting with them, being in new places, but I hated traveling. At least, we were a well-rehearsed team and had a good off-road car for the often very rough terrain. Holiday meant for me to stay in one(!) place, preferably where I could swim, have plenty of time to read and sleep, maybe do some cycling or windsurfing. I chose places as quiet as possible and took a single room, preferably with cooking facilities because of my food intolerances. I often chose to go on vacation by car, because it meant not to have to restrict your luggage. So, I often ended up with additional books, shoes, garments for all eventualities and various hobby items in the car, even if I might not need them. But you never know. In addition, I have feet problems and damaged knees. For this reason, I preferred cycling and swimming to going for a walk. For the same reason, on the advice of several doctors, I abandoned my attempts of trying to run again. In that sense, it seems very crazy to me to even consider a trip where I will

walk every day, even in the rain,

sleep at different places every day,

often have to share the room with others and not know whether I can sleep well and long enough under these circumstances,

not know if I'm going to find the right kind of meals along the way,

have to manage with very little luggage, even wash my clothes every day and not be equipped for all eventualities.

During this time, I don't want to go online much, especially not on Facebook, so I chose Tumblr.com as a platform to post updates from along the way and photos for everyone who is interested. i haven’t done one of these posts in a while but: thoughts on nier and nier automata

first off, i haven’t finished reading all of the nier side stories and nothing from the automata lore. but this is largely going to be thoughts on themes and comparing the two games rather than specifics.

i really like nier. its very much my aesthetic for post apocalyptic scenarios and i love the over-the-top yelling and breakdowns. i love how much lore it has even without getting into everything drakengard. i think there’s a lot of value from being able to go into the background so much while still maintaining a solid story on the surface. the games also have a quirkiness from multiple gameplay styles (more prevalent in the first game, though) that i think takes advantage of the medium.

i’m going to discuss some spoilers now so continue on at your own risk.

things i hate about nier: kainé’s outfit. it is infuriating. and no, saying she wears lingerie because she wants to avoid harassment for being intersex is not a valid reason because the character design literally. came first. read the interviews. she’s in underwear to be sexy first and foremost and isn’t a real person who can choose what she wears. ok mini rant over.

the concept for the spinoff from drakengard is just. so good. evil magic is spread through the modern world because of the portal from the other world. the desperate attempt to save humanity with magic after our weaponry is useless. just the fact that people get turned into salt is cool as hell.

nier’s reveal and the hints toward it were great. the enemies were just human souls the entire time! the mix of tech and magic! i love the characters and their interactions, even though much of their relationship feels... implied? like there’s more time between game events than there really are. weiss is so good. i’m a sucker for found family, what can i say. i like how the game is split into a pre-yonah-taken calm and then a more desperate second act. the ending b run is a nice addition though i wish there was more of tyrann to really make it worthwhile. c and d were dumb and should have just been on the end of b. overall i like the game, i like that original nier dooms the human race because his sister/daughter is going to die and the entire system depends on him to stabilize it. its fun.

now what i don’t understand about automata is how much its written for someone who doesnt known anything about nier. like you cant say that humans are on the moon when we KNOW that true humans are dead and replicants had unstable genomes and magic couldn’t sustain them forever, and given the time gap... they’re dead. there’s also far less magic in this game, which i dislike but i guess is acceptable because i assume robots cant use magic in this world. i also miss the banter of the first game (aka i miss weiss. i love him) the true ending is also IDENTICAL to nier’s ending which is :/ i love how the story ends, however, with machines truly replicating humanity by also removing their “souls” from their bodies in a way.

i wish the plot itself had more to it? nier was very regimented due to the style with prophecies and such, but i wanted more from automata. the first half was interesting but i wanted more from adam and eve. the second half tho. oof. picked up exactly as i expected and i generally enjoyed it. a2 learning essentially the same lesson as 2b and 9s in the first part tho was kind of eh. i just think the aliens were thrown away too quickly and the reveal could have meant more at a later point.

game-wise, automata feels like it is what nier wanted. its a larger world, with full pov switches, and is overall a better game.

emil paragraph. so glad he was in automata and i cannot believe that the joke in the drama cd where AND THEN EMIL FOUGHT ALIENS became canon. also literally saddest thing is that HE PLANNED TO SACRIFICE HIMSELF FOR NIER AND KAINÉ BUT HE OUTLIVED THEM BY THOUSANDS OF YEARS AND DEFENDED THE PLANET BECAUSE OF THEM and then he lost his sense of self trying to protect the world.... and he did it all while gay. the icon.

the 9s/2b romance was weird and i didnt get where it was coming from. i liked 9s overall, though 2b was a little too much silent-protagonist which I GET IT she didn’t want to become attached. but she lacked the development of the other characters because she was so reserved. a2 felt like just a 2b that talked more. smush em together! i want a better female character here. maybe i’ll get more in 2b characterization in the extra material but rn im not really liking it.

overall i really liked these games and im going to enjoy digging into some more lore. i like nier itself better for the story, but its such an interesting world and the way automata carved out the space to tell its story was nice. gg.

Separation Anxiety

My mom said she has an interview with a housing agency to be placed in. She gets in because in technicality she's been homeless since '14. In order for me to go with her, I need to show chronic homelessness. I don't want to hop from shelter to shelter. I won't psychologically last.

Why I'm freaking out is that I'm so overwhelmed here. Every day is getting harder. The GOOD thing is that I finally figured (yeah I know it's kind of slow) out that I can still do what I used to in the computer room. So I dug out my tablet and headphones. Then used the computer to conduct research.

When I was home the least I did was use both monitors.

One was for YouTube and the other was for playing my video games or random researching. I donno why I didn't think of this before. Had been in there for so long and so much since Jason got a job. I don't really have anyone now besides my mom. It's okay I guess. People would come up to me saying they thought I had left or something. Damn sure wish I could fucking leave.

Since hearing that my mom might be transferred out of here without me, Im doing my best to keep calm. Erik and God are assuring everything will be fine but I won't feel better until I talk to the head caseworker again. So I'm waiting for her to come out of a meeting.

What's insane is lately God is giving me presents!

I prayed and wanted a new bag, and my mom found one just like the old one I had but new and American Eagle. Then I wanted a new hat. I was very specific about the style but wanted it in black. In the donations room, I didn't even walk in yet and I new it was there and snatched it. Then last night I was thinking about having a real pillow. Sure enough, I was just offered a clean one! All these things I have asked for and it's hard to say it's a coincidence. These things have happened withing the past 4 weeks.

Of course I say thank you and he says how proud of me for having trust and faith in him. Well I try my best to stay positive but right now I feel so overwhelmed that it's just gone out the window. He knows I'm sorry for going to extremes since being here. I'm only human and this is one of those moments I really need peace of mind.

I'm going to take a nap after this meeting.

The anxiety and the confrontation with a spiteful and selfish bitch here had me pissed off. She's being greedy and unreasonable. For example, she used up all of the washing machines and then she takes a straightening hair brush with a blower tied to it. Well, she has no hair. I guess she thought I was interested in it. At first I was then realized that I honestly don't need to burn my hair off so fuck it. It's so hot I can just sit outside and brush my hair straight.

Since she visibly didn't need it, someone else could use it. With what "hair" does she have?! Then she takes some yard display thing. Okay, at this point she's obviously greedy. Maybe she's been so deprived of "nice" shit that she has to take anything of value. Maybe she's leaving soon (omg I hope so!) and would like it for her home, but how she acted was obviously spiteful because when I took it out, she snatched it out of my hands. I can only hope she gave it to someone who can use it. Doubt it. She has a nasty attitude.

so im due to start at cambridge university for bio natural sciences in october and i thought i would write a post about what helped me make a successful application. hopefully this is useful to some people!! (also this is an incredibly long post you’ve been warned)

if anyone wants me to do a more in depth post on one specific section, or you guys have any questions at all, feel free to drop me a message!!

choosing a course

this is the most important bit!!! you’re dedicating 3/4/5/6 years of your life to this

oxbridge as rule (esp cambridge) have slightly different courses to other universities so do your research - on their websites and at open days

i know top students are supposed to apply to oxbridge bc “it’s the best” and stuff but if the courses offered don’t interest you or you prefer how other unis teach that course, DON’T APPLY!! it’s not worth it

generally, look at your a level/ib/etc subjects and which sort of courses they meet the entry requirements for then look at websites and stuff to try and narrow it down

talk to current students! the blog askacambridgestudent on tumblr is great, each area has an oxbridge conference each april if you can go, ask students at open days

they can tell you what it’s actually like

read some books in the subject area you’re considering, watch ted talks, go to masterclasses, do work experience

this will help you choose a course and also be useful later when you write your personal statement

okay so when i was applying people kept telling me i would only be successful if the only thing i thought about 24/7 was biology and it was the love of my life. this is not true. you can have other interests don’t believe the people that tell you that you cant

that being said you need to be passionate about your subject!! refer to bullet point 1!! they want to know that you’re interested in it and this needs to show

oxford vs cambridge

this is really hard for some people but my course is only offered at cambridge so i did not have this problem

so first see if you prefer the course offered at one of them

if not, visit both and hopefully you’ll get a better vibe from one

i have no good advice here

writing your personal statement

okay writing a ps is just not fun okay prepare yourself for that

if anyone wants a biology/natural sciences example message me and i can send you mine

this post has some really good advice

start early, aim to have it completely done and edited by early september (oxbridge deadline is 15th october)

first, think about things you want to write about - i wrote a paragraph on a book i’d read, a paragraph each on two summer schools i did, a paragraph on my epq, and a paragraph on extracurricular

things you can talk about - books, ted talks, lectures, summer schools, masterclasses, epq, independent research into stuff, work experience

when you’re writing about stuff you gotta engage with it, so dedicate a whole paragraph to one book, then take one key theme and talk about how it interested you and how you looked up other things to do with it - link it to a different concept or talk about which theory you like best if theres conflicting theories in the field etc

it’s a hard thing to do but just pick different bits you liked about the book and try to discuss it - a key theory, theme, character etc

you can be asked about your ps in interview so make sure you’re comfortable discussing the books on your ps

you also do not need to talk about multiple books if you don’t want to, i only talked about one and i know people who didn’t mention any

don’t just say things like “im passionate about biology”!! back it up with something!! say you’re passionate about one specific topic in your field and why, discuss how different things you did/read consolidated your interest, show your interest through discussion about the subject

try to link in slightly different subject areas or experiences, and definitely link everything to your course and why you’d be a good student

i managed to link my latin AS level to biology so anything is possible folks

while you want all your paragraphs to be very supercurricular based on things you’ve done and read, try and drop in some of those buzz words they love - you know like about your academic writing skills, enthusiasm, opportunity, dedication, communication, interdisciplinary skills etc.

oxbridge do not give a shit about your extracurricular but other unis do so you want one paragraph max on it and try to link it to transferable skills - it makes you a good communicator etc

write your first draft - it will be shitty but just write it, leave the intro and conclusion to last

introductions and conclusions are super hard to write but it’s doable. try to take the general idea you’re trying to include (mine was how interdisciplinary study is important to both all the sciences together and sub disciplines in bio) and write a little bit about it

it doesn’t have to be long, your intro should introduce your passion to the subject (please don’t do the whole “i’ve wanted to study bio since i was five and x happened” thing)

conclusion can be super short, just reinforce you’re excited to study your subject in a new environment and have new opportunities

look at the tsr examples for inspiration

try to make it cohesive ish? have a running theme? (like how this one has a running theme? i actually took a lot of inspiration from that ps)

don’t say things like “im a motivated and commited student with good time management skills” without smth to back it up - “while undertaking an independent research project, i developed time management skills, and researching x made me more interested bc y” is better (i mean still not incredible but i wrote that literally just now okay)

the student room has a load of examples from people who’ve already applied

read the ones in your subject, work out which bits you like and don’t like, apply to your own (be careful of plagiarism tho)

disclaimer: not all the ps on there are good

once you have a complete and awful first draft show it to a teacher

most people show it to the relevant subject teacher, but also to your tutor, the higher education adviser, oxbridge adviser

they will hopefully help you make it less awful but don’t let them change it so much it doesn’t sound like you

i showed mine to the oxbridge adviser at my school and well he laughed at it bc it was so bad so you know

but i didn’t listen to everything he said bc some of the things he wrote like no 17 year old would say

keep revising drafts, showing to teachers until you can’t stand reading it anymore then get someone else (maybe parents?) to spell check and be done with the horrible thing

no one likes their personal statement, you will read it in august and wonder how you could possibly write something so bad

the actual ucas application

make sure your predicted grades are at least as high as the entrance requirements

you don’t really have much control over your teacher reference but you can use it to mention things you couldn’t fit in your personal statement if you can convince your teachers to include stuff

make sure all your qualifications and stuff are accurate

the saq (cambridge only)

you have to fill this in straight after october 15th

it’s mostly boring admin stuff, filling in topics and class sizes etc.

you have an option to write an additional (shorter) personal statement

this is really useful if the course you’re applying to at oxbridge is different to the other courses youve applied to - such as if you applied to politics everywhere else but hsps at cambridge - use it to explain why you want to do that specific course at cambridge

but you definitely don’t have to write one, i didnt!

make sure you get this in on time

for some courses you have to send in written work

i didn’t have to so i don’t have loads of advice, but make sure you send in stuff that you’re comfortable discussing at interview

they’ll be guidelines on the cambridge website and on your specific college’s website

admissions tests

not the most fun things

find the specification on the website and go through, highlighting and revising the points you don’t know

try to find some past papers and do them

this really depends on the subject you’re doing so i can’t give much more advice but if anyone needs advice specific to the NSAA shoot me a message

also, these are just part of your application and even if you came out of yours thinking it’s the worst test you’ve ever had it probably didn’t go that badly

the NSAA is the hardest test i’ve ever sat and i thought i had done completely shit and i still got an offer so there’s still hope

interviews

okay so first, don’t believe the rumours

you know the ones where people say they got given a banana and asked to use it to explain how quantum mechanics relates to of mice and men

interviews are definitely scary, but they are nowhere near as bad as people make them out to be, and they don’t ask you weird unrelated questions

make sure you know your personal statement inside out and you feel comfortable talking about the topics/books/etc you mentioned on there in depth

keep up to date with any recent news or high profile research in your field (you don’t need to know details, just have a vague idea of what’s going on)

this is especially important if you’re applying for politics or economics or something like that

if your school offers a mock interview, definitely have one, though don’t panic if you can’t have one there’s other ways to prepare

the whole point of interview is them wanting to see how you think and how you respond to unfamiliar problems

so i looked up a list of “past oxbridge interview questions” and practised writing down a quick answer to them and thinking about how i would go about solving the problem

oxford has some examples on the “sample questions” bit here

i also used this site but remember a lot of these probably aren’t actual interview questions

if you have an opportunity, just talk to your relevant subject teacher about the topics beyond your specification

you honestly don’t need to do too much interview prep, just do enough so you feel a bit calmer about the whole thing

i still use helen mcrory as my adult cissa faceclaim. however ! if my using her makes you uncomfortable, please please let me know. i have an alternative face for her

i tend to skew a little shorter on writing 1-3 paragraph type of thing, only because novellas take me a long ass time to reply to. i’m open to doing them with established mutuals, but please be aware they will take me a while.

you don’t have to match my length, just give me something to work with.

if you want to start writing with me, the best way to do so is via an ask. there’s no time limits on my asks, send them whenever the hell you want. i just ask that you yeet it into a new post if you want to continue. also completely adore being tagged in random starters.

that said, i may not answer every meme. it happens.

for most of her canon, narcissa is a married woman which does make her difficult to ship. however, i am open to roleplaying infidelity plots. her post canon verse however she is divorced and free to be with anyone. she is also a straight woman. my two biggest ships for her are lucius and severus, but we’re open to others too.

Personal Statement Advice

*let me amend that title to ‘some quick tips for writing personal statements that I have accumulated, but don’t take my word for it because I have no idea how good mine is!’

General

give yourself time - it takes a while to write your personal statement, what with drafting, editing, sending to other people, and having time to sit on it before going back to work on it. You can’t cram a personal statement! Especially for early entry apps, people tend to do a first draft over the summer of Year 12. I really wish I had because I started in early September and was quite stressed out

keep it 100% focused - admissions tutors want to hear about 2 things:

motivation: why you love your subject and want to study it for 3+ years

suitability: why should they choose you? What skills do you possess that mean you will cope well with studying at university level and succeed in your field

before you start, do your research

know which universities you’re applying to - different unis want to see different things in a personal statement. The classic example is that Oxbridge don’t really care about your extra-curriculars, and just want to know about your academic interest in the subject. It’s worth researching this before you apply so you can try to tick the boxes for all your unis

balancing different unis - if you’re applying to Oxbridge, generally the guideline is to make your personal statement 80% academic at least. Don’t get too hung up on that though - they only look at it at the interview stage, whereas other unis use it to shortlist, especially if they don’t interview!! So ironically it’s more important to try and appeal to your other unis

What to include

structure for each paragraph - okay this may sound a bit basic and take you back to the horrors of gcse english, but a really useful way of making sure you fully explore all your points is using the PEE paragraph. I appreciate this is too formulaic for some people, but it doesn’t have to be in this exact order. I just used it as a guide to make sure each paragraph I wrote covered these elements

Point: motivation (why subject) or suitability (why me)

Evidence: thing you’ve done (list of examples below)

Explanation: what you learned and link it back to your point. Be reflective!!

okay now on to content - let’s split this into academic and extra-curricular

academic - this is the example section of your PEE, where you get to talk about all the amazing things you’ve done that demonstrate your passion for the subject

reading you’ve done, podcasts you’ve listened to, lectures you went to, work experience you did, societies / clubs you’re part of that are relevant to your subject, summer schools etc

extra-curricular - okay so you definitely can include extra-curriculars, but always link back to the skills you’ve learned from them (and possibly why that will help you in your subject area) e.g. being a captain of x team sport has helped me develop both my leadership and team work skills, because I must raise the morale of my team and delegate roles efficiently

here I have tried to give some examples of things that this person does in their role to develop the skills they mention

also, if you talk about an interest / hobby, try to quantify it - if you do a team sport, are you captain? If you play an instrument, what grade have you reached? If you run, have you done any significant distances e.g. a 10K? It just gives some evidence that you genuinely do your chosen hobby

Actually writing it

where to start - I found it really difficult to start writing that first draft, and essentially only got going when I had a school deadline to meet in early September… I was really freaked out by that blank Word document, but my dad basically sat me down and we did a huge messy plan to create a structure

by the way for me the struggle wasn’t ‘omg idk what to write i have nothing to say’ but more ‘omg i have so much to say but no idea how to express it’. If you fall into the former category I recommend making a list of all the academic experiences you have (see list above). Once you get brainstorming you’ll realise you’ve done more than you thought!

the first draft - use your plan to attempt your first draft. Completely ignore the character/line limit! It doesn’t matter if it’s rubbish, just focus on getting it all out - keep going until you finish writing everything you want to say

feedback - it’s really important to get a fresh pair of eyes to read your personal statement. When you’ve read it so many times it can be hard to spot errors and see where things don’t flow etc. The 3 most important things to remember when asking for feedback:

1. do it at intervals - my head of year read my first draft, then I asked a doctor I had shadowed to read my 4th draft, my head of year re-read it at my 5th draft, and then I finalised it with my parents for the 6th and final drafts (yep I did 7 drafts)

2. re-draft (lots ugh) after you get feedback - decide which bits to incorporate, but don’t be afraid to disagree with the advice you are given! It’s your personal statement

3. don’t ask too many people - they may give you conflicting views which will just confuse you rather than help. As you can see, I stuck to 2 ‘outsiders’ and my parents

the beginning - most people find this the hardest part. The best advice I’ve heard is basically not to start with the start! If you’re struggling, do the middle paragraphs first, and these might give you inspiration for your intro. Try to think of a moment, an experience, or a person you’ve met that really influenced your decision to study your subject, or encapsulates why you love your subject

the ending - okay you’ve given all your evidence so don’t introduce anything too new. Try not to repeat yourself but this is essentially a summary of 1) motivation / why subject and then close it off with 2) suitability / why me

Live Project report

Due to Covid we have not been able to go on placement therefore we have had three options all of which are a 1500 word report which are shown below. I decided to choose the third one which is the 1500 Evaluative Case Study as I haven't hd any experience in the industry yet. I have decided to do the live project report on Karen Fuchs as she is an architecture photographer and one of my favourite photographs I have come across!

I have now conducted the interview with Karen and it was a great experience. I learnt a lot about her and how she got to where she is today. The interview was done over WhatsApp and I recorded are telephone call as she was in Texas at the time. I decided to add a few more questions in the interview and changed some of the questions slightly compared to when I first wrote them out in the previous blog post. Here are the questions that I asked...

Karen answered all the questions in great detail and thought they were really strong questions to ask. I think the most interesting answer Karen gave was to question 1 about her greatest achievement as a photographer. She was actually the first female photographer assistant in London ever! I thought that was a pretty big deal and the story that went along with how that came about was really interesting and unique. I also learnt in great detail about how she got to where she is today and the challenges she has faced in her career and how she has overcome them which I thought were really inspiring.

Below are the answers Karen gave to my questions...

Due to Covid its been really annoying that I haven't been able to physically assist and work with Karen because I would love to. Luckily she said that once she's back in the UK she will call me up and I can assist and work with her which I am really excited about, however I still thought this interview was a great experience and great insight into her life as a photographer that is extremely valuable and I learnt a great deal.

Now that I have the questions and answers I decided to write it up into a report after having a 1 to 1 with Ellen she said that it can't just be a list of questions and answers and actually needs to look like a report that's been written up where questions and answers are combined into a paragraph. This was what I came up with...

After writing this up I showed it to Ellen my lecturer and she began to read through it and instantly new I was dyslexic so we both agreed that I needed to go to a study support session which Im used to going to for my other essay’s this year and in first year and I know how helpful they are. Ellen said I needed to cut down the word count especially for the main bit were you discuss the questions and answers plus I needed it to read a lot better and not just look like oh here's one thing, then we moved on to this... and then we spoke about... it just means that it is a very rigid approach to writing and quite boring. I also needed to add self reflection at the end saying how I can use the information given to me for my final year at uni and beyond into the world of photography.

So I had a session with study support which was extremely useful and we both went through my report and this is how it is looking now

This session was extremely useful. We began by looking at the introduction which before was about 250 words and this report is meant to be 1500 words max so the intro really needs to be around 150 so we decided to cut it down significantly and just cut out the unnecessary details.

Then we moved onto the analysis of the questions and basically made them look a lot less blocky so that it flowed a lot better and didn't feel so rigid. So we got rid of ‘then we moved on to...’ ‘after this we then spoke about...’ which significantly cut down the words and we also grouped different paragraphs together which followed the same themes for example we combined the 1st and 4th paragraph together because they both talked about similar things with Andrew and Chalk Farm studios in London. This significantly cut down the word count dramatically. Other paragraphs were also combined. We also split the analysis of questions into two main sections technical and personal. Then the final paragraph before we went into the self reflection brings these two points together.

Now because we had cut out so many words from the analysis and intro it allowed me to write up the self reflection which was broken up into three main sections. The first looks at the technical importance the second is more personal focusing more on assisting and then the final is more about being a nice person and not giving up. The main emphasis on the self reflection is to show HOW I will use this knowledge that she has given me into my work for now, third year and beyond. I think we made good progress in the self reflection however I feel I need to add more into the self reflection talking about HOW I'm actually going to implement what Karen told me so I will do this in the next session with study support.

For the intro I decided to remove ‘I choose to interview Karen Fuchs who is a’ as it is not necessary and I can just jump straight into the introduction but apart from that I made very little change to the intro and now it is just over 160 words which I think Is perfectly acceptable for my intro I think it's clear and sets out the scene nicely.

Then for the Analysis of questions we basically just went through and just cut out some words so it just became clearer and easier to read with no repetition but nothing crazy and re worded some sentences so they make more sense and aren't as clunky so they flow better...

Finally we went back over the self reflection which is where we made the most changes and added into how I am going to change my approach to photography because of this conversation / interview. We left the first paragraph mainly unchanged because we both thought it was strong and did exactly what you're meant to do in the self reflection. In the second paragraph I decided to add in some more HOW because we both agreed that it didn't have enough... so we included ‘In preparation for any internships I will ensure both my physical and digital portfolios are up to date.’ I also included at the end of the paragraph ‘if I get the opportunity to assist... researching the company or the photographer I will be working with, their locations and the role that's being asked of me.’ Then In the final paragraph I added about how ‘I will keep on top of new techniques by continuing the be a member of the AOP and attending talks and engaging in discussion forums.’ I also changed tenacity matters more than talent to tenacity matters just as much as talent as I don't want to piss anyone off, especially not my lectures!
